Chapter 1

Catherine came home, closed the door, and walked towards her room.

"Mom? I thought you were going out on a date."

"I give up." Catherine replied in a sad tone.

"Mom, are you okay? I'm sorry you didn't have a good husband and marriage. Is it because you're a single mother with a 16 year old?" Caroline asked worriedly.

"No, honey, don't be silly. I don't think I can ever be in love with someone again."

"Because of my father or the guy you called your soulmate all those years ago?"

"I guess I never stopped loving Steve. I haven't seen or talked to him in years. I'm sorry sweetie."

"Why did you marry my dad if you never loved him?"

"I never thought I would see Steve again and I did like your dad, it's just, I never loved him the way I loved Steve."

"I'm sorry, mom. Dad is a very horrible person to have cheated on you. Now you are unhappy and divorced."

"Sweetie, who said I'm unhappy? I'm very happy to have you as my daughter. Speaking of you, for your 16th birthday, I have a surprise!"

"Mom, what is it?"

"Well you always said you wanted to go to Hawaii."

"Omg mom we are going to Hawaii! Thank you so much! I love you!"

"Your welcome honey, so let's get packing, we have a plane to catch tomorrow."

Meanwhile in Hawaii...

"Seriously dad, you got shot again. You know you're not getting any younger. All these injuries are starting to really affecting you." John said in a worried tone.

"Why did you tell him I got shot Danny? I don't need him to worry about me." Steve said in an angry tone.

"Dad, I am right here and I can hear you. You know I'm not a little kid anymore, in two years I'll be a freshman in college."

"I'm sorry for pushing you away son, I need to cherish the time we have together."

"I'm worried about you, my mom already got remarried and has two other kids. Dad, don't you want to be married again and have a wife?"

Danny and Steve exchanged looks.

"Did you ever tell him Steve?"

"Tell me what?"

"I'll leave you two alone to talk. John, make sure your dad stays put and doesn't try anything funny."

"Got it uncle Danny… so dad what's the thing you never told me?"

"Many years ago, I thought I found my soulmate, we were in love with each other for many years. She had to become part of the CIA in order to protect me, when I lost her that time, it broke my heart. I was going to propose to her, but my pride got to me and I said "I can't wait for you." She made occasional visits when she needed me and when I needed her. I haven't seen or talked to her ever since your grandma died."

"What if we try calling her? Maybe she can move here and make you happy!"

"John, she probably changed her number, and even if she did answer, she's probably married and has her own family."

"You never know dad, anyways just go to sleep and rest! No more stress dad!"

"Thank you for being such a great son John!"

When Steve went to sleep, John carefully grabbed his father's phone off the table and went outside the room. He walked to the parking lot and got into his car. "Where would her phone number be?" He asked himself.

He looked at his dad's contact list and found her. He first saw her picture.

"Wow dad, she's pretty, I can't believe you still kept her picture and number… time to call her, I hope she answers."

Back in Coronado…

At the San Diego Airport, while Catherine and Caroline were waiting for their flight, Catherine got a phone call. The first thing she saw when she took out her phone was Steve's picture.

"Wow, sailor, it's been a while since I've seen your face."

"Huh mom, who are you talking to?"

"No one sweetie, I'm just going to answer this call, I'll be right back."

Catherine walked to a near wall and leaned against it. She braced herself before answering the call.

"Hello, Steve?"

"Hi, is this Catherine?"

"Yes, this is Catherine. Who's this?"

"My name is John McGarrett, I am Steve's son." Catherine was in shock that Steve's son was

calling her. "That's sweet that Steve named him after his father." Catherine thought before replying to him.

"Hi John, why did you call me? Is Steve in trouble?" "He's not in major trouble, he's just in the hospital again for another bullet shot wound."

"Goodness, that crazy Steve is always getting injured!"

"I know right, my father is crazy. I wanted to call you to ask you to forgive my father for what he told you all those years ago and take him back. I know it would make him happy."

"You're such a sweet son John, I'm guessing your father doesn't know you're calling me because knowing him, he will let his pride overtake him."

"I guess you really do know my father." John thought to himself.

"Sorry John, I have a plane to catch right now. Thank you for your call!"

Before John could say something, Catherine hung up.
