Chapter 10

The next morning…

Catherine called to make an appointment for an ob-gyn.

"Hi, my name is Catherine Rollins, I was calling to know if there was a time today I could make an appointment for a pregnancy test. I already took the home tests and they say I am pregnant."

"Mmhmm... got it, thank you so much, see you at 2 pm today."

Catherine went downstairs to the backyard to wait for Steve to finish his morning swim. Steve walked up to the chair and saw that his towel was missing. He was looking for it when Catherine appeared holding his towel.

"Looking for this sailor?"

"Hey Cath, what are you doing out here waiting for me?"

"Well, we have an ob-gyn appointment today at 2."

"I'll let the team know that we have to leave early today when we get to headquarters."

Steve dried off, took a shower, and got ready to go to work with Catherine.

At headquarters.

"Guys, Catherine and I have to leave early today, so Danny and Lou will be in charge of the case. I know you all will work hard to finish the case today. Good luck, we will hopefully be back in an hour."

"Don't worry about us, boss, we got this!"

"Thank you for your enthusiasm Junior!"

Steve drove Catherine to the doctor's office.

"Hi welcome to the women's center, how can we help you today?"

"I'm looking for the ob-gyn office."

"That will be on floor 3 to the right when the elevators open. Have a nice day!"

"Thank you so much"

Catherine dragged Steve to the elevator. They walked out and Steve was amazed at how many people were there. Steve went to find them a chair to sit on in the waiting room while Catherine went to get the stack of forms she had to fill out. She got the forms and headed to the seat next to Steve. "

That's a lot of forms to fill out, Cath."

"I can see that Steve, will you help your pregnant girlfriend out with these?"

"Of course I will."

One question really questioned Steve.

"What should I put here, hmm?"

"We aren't married, Steve."

Catherine raised her left hand.

"If you liked it, you should've put a ring on it."

They finished the forms and Steve got up to bring them back to the receptionist. They waited a little while until Catherine's name was called. The nurse escorted them to a room and gave Catherine a robe to change into. Catherine changed and sat on the bed while Steve was sitting on the chair next to the bed. The doctor knocked on the door.

"Hi, my name is Dr. Sky Bryant, I have been an ob-gyn doctor for the past 5 years."

"It's nice to meet you, Dr. Bryant, my name is Catherine Rollins and this is my boyfriend Steve McGarrett."

"So according to your paperwork, you think you're about 2 months pregnant and you already took the home pregnancy tests."

"Yes, that is correct."

"Okay, so we are going to do a blood test and then an ultrasound. A nurse is going to come in soon and take your blood. I'll be back to start the ultrasound after we get the blood pregnancy test results."

"Thank you, Dr. Bryant."

Catherine got her blood drawn.

"Steve, can you come on the bed next to me so I could lean on you?"

Steve got up from his chair and sat next to her. He reached out for her hand and held it tightly reassuring her that he was all in.

"I can't believe this is really happening, Steve. We have dreamt of this for so long! Having our own kids, getting married, watching them grow up and have their own kids."

"Our dreams are finally coming true."

Steve kissed Catherine and hugged her. Doctor Bryant knocked on the door and Steve came off the bed to sit on his seat.

"So I have the results, congratulations, you are pregnant, let's see that baby."

Steve and Catherine smiled at each other and could read each other's minds.

"Is this your first pregnancy?"

"No, I actually have a 16-year-old."

"I'm going to put some gel on your stomach… it's going to be a little cold."

Steve reached his hand out to Catherine's and squeezed her hand to reassure her again that he was fully committed and there for her. Dr. Bryant moved the wand around until she could find the baby, she turned the monitor screen toward them so they could see the ultrasound.

"Omg Steve, I can't believe it."

Catherine started to tear up a little bit.

"Me too, Catherine."

Steve kissed her hand and tears started to come out.

"The babies are healthy and are 7 1/2 weeks old."

Catherine and Steve turned to each other.

"Babies?"

"Yes… twins, Mr. McGarrett."

"Wow… that's a little shocking."

"Would you like to take home some pictures today?"

"We would love to!"

"Here you go, the nurse at the front desk can help you make your next appointment, congratulations again, I will see you in a couple of weeks!"

4 months later…

Steve planned a special day for their family after they find out the sex of their baby.

*Alarm sound*

"Mmmmm, good morning, lieutenant."

"Mmmmm, good morning, commander."

"You know, I think I still owe you plenty of dinners."

"Yeah, somehow we just never quite make it to dinner."

"What do you mean? We had dinner last week and in the past."

"No, we had reservations and we can't do much with this big belly here."

"You know, we both have the day off today, we could have breakfast on the beach…"

"Orrrr…"

"Orrrr…"

"I think I'm vibrating."

Steve kisses her harder and more intensely.

"No, I think I'm actually vibrating."

Catherine pulls his phone from under her and shows it to him.

"There goes your day off."

"I'm so sorry Catherine, I love you so much, I will definitely be there for the appointment."

Steve kissed her cheek and got his clothes and stuff together. Catherine just laid on her side and watched him run out of the room. She caressed her stomach and talked to the babies.

"Hey little ones, your daddy had to go to work, I wish he didn't have to go today, it was supposed to be a special day. Just you, me, daddy, and your two older siblings. I guess your daddy is a work magnet even on his day off."

Catherine took Caroline with her to her check-up.

"Where is Steve today?"

"He's too busy to be involved with the babies, I guess."

Catherine was very annoyed with Steve since the morning.

"The babies look very healthy. Would you like to know the sex of the babies?"

Catherine had to pause to think.

"Mom, don't you want to wait until Steve is here?"

"He's not coming because work is more important and it always has been."

"But mom…"

"I would like to know the sex of the babies."

"Congratulations, you're having one of each, a boy and a girl!"

"YAYYY, I can't wait to meet my baby brother and sister!

As they were heading to Catherine's car, Steve came running towards them.

"Look who decided to show up."

"I'm so sorry Cath, the case is taking longer than I expected."

He reached to kiss her cheek, but Catherine dogged it.

"Cath, what's wrong, I'm here now, I'm sorry."

"Just leave me alone Steve ''

Catherine walked away towards her car. Caroline mouthed "I'm sorry" and quickly ran to catch up with her mom.

"Why am I so stupid! I ruined our plans, I still want to ask her. I hope today's case doesn't take any longer."

-Catherine took Caroline to Target to look at some baby clothes. Caroline could see how angry she was at Steve but didn't understand why her mom was that mad.

"Mom, are you okay?"

"I'm fine, sweetie, you know what, let's get lunch and go home."

They went to the grocery store to buy some food for themselves and John.

"Remember don't tell anyone, including Steve and John the sex of the babies."

"I won't tell anyone, mom."

Catherine headed inside the house and went straight to cooking them lunch. After they had lunch, Catherine went straight to Steve's and her bedroom and closed the door. Caroline wanted to lessen her mom's work by washing their dishes. John went into the kitchen to talk to Caroline.

"Hey, Caroline, what's up with Catherine?"

"Your dad had a little mishap today and she's mad."

"I was bummed out too, he had planned such an awesome day for us."

John put his arms around Caroline's waist. Caroline dropped the soap dish into the sink.

"Hey, we can't do this in… the kitchen…"

"Why not? It's also our house."

John kissed her on the neck.

"John, you know why."

"Yes… only in our rooms."

"Exactly."

It was already 6 pm. by the time Steve came home.

"Hello, Catherine?"

He saw Caroline and John sitting on the couch watching a movie.

"Where's your mom?"

"I think she's still in your room."

"How long has she been up there?"

"Since lunch."

Steve ran upstairs and didn't see her.

"I wonder where she is."

Steve ran back downstairs.

"Is she not up there?"

He looked out to their backyard and saw her sitting on the chairs by the beach.

"She's in the backyard."

"Sorry, we didn't hear her come down."

Steve walked out of the house to the chair. He went behind her and slowly put his hand around her and kissed her head, he reached to hold her stomach, but she pushed his hand away.

"Catherine, I'm sorry. I really wanted to be there, please forgive me."

Catherine got up and pushed him out of the way and ran up the stairs. Steve followed her and took the box out of his pocket.

"Cath, please don't be mad."

Catherine stopped in the middle of the staircase. She turned around to face Steve.

"Steve, you missed finding out that you're going to be a father to another daughter and son."

"Wait, we are having one of each?"

"Steve…"

"I'm so sorry, I really wanted to be with you the whole day. Remember what we planned, going to the appointment together, going to dinner with the kids to tell them. Catherine ignored everything Steve said and ran into their room and locked the door.

"I'll go talk to her."

Caroline ran upstairs and tried to open the door. Caroline thought to herself "why did you have to lock the door mom." She decided to knock on the door and shouted "mom are you, okay, please let me in." Caroline could hear a lot of shuffling in the room. Catherine eventually unlocked the door and let her in.

"Mom, what are you doing packing a suitcase!

"I'm sorry Caroline, I need to get out of here, I can't be here anymore."

Steve could hear shouting so we went upstairs to the door. As soon as he knocked, Catherine was rushing out the door with a bag and suitcase. She went straight for the garage and got in her car and drove away.

"What happened there, Caroline?"

"When I went inside she was packing her bags and crying."

"This is all my fault, I'm already a bad father to both you and your siblings who aren't even born yet. I can't even be a good partner to her. No wonder why she left. I ruined our family day."

"Dad it's okay, just let Catherine cool down, she's just agitated today, plus you're not a bad father, yes you pushed me away, but you made up for it and I'm very grateful I am living here with you."

"Thank you, son, I just wish she didn't leave like that."
