Chapter 11: Buzz Buzz Buzz

A/N: I Need OC's! More info at the bottom but be thinking about it!

Ash was awoken in the middle of the night by a hand over his mouth. He tried to scream but the hand kept him down. He looked up and saw that it was Leaf, holding her other hand with one finger up in front of her mouth. They had entered the secret tunnel and had camped there for the night, with everyone and their Pokemon exhausted from the day of battling.

Ash nodded showing that he understood before Leaf let go of his mouth. He looked around and saw that everyone was still asleep. He had left his team in their Pokeballs, as had most of the trainers due to the tight space. Leaf signaled Ash to follow her. He started following but she stopped him and signaled for him to grab his stuff. He picked up his backpack and sleeping gear before following her, confused.

They walked about 5 minutes away before she turned to speak to him. "We are leaving. We are going to sneak back up and through Celadon before hitting the old Bicycle road to go down to Fuschia. It's practically abandoned now, no one ever uses it anymore. " Leaf whispered.

Ash blinked as he looked at her. "I thought we were going through the tunnel and then go south from Lavender to get there?" This was the plan that she had mentioned to everyone at dinner last night.

"That's what I told them," Leaf said with a hiss. "Think about it Ash, it doesn't make sense that there would have been so many people there and ready for us had someone in our group not been a snitch. Even the weak Pokemon seemed stronger than they should have. It just doesn't make sense unless they were prepared."

Ash's mind was racing. "The X series side of the medicine cabinet did look pretty bare…" Ash mumbled as he realized Leaf was right. "But, who do you think it was?"

"I don't know. It could be anyone. It could be someone who was with Erika or it could be someone who was with Hitoshi. Hell, it could be Hitoshi for all I know. Let's go, we are going to have to travel at night in case any Rocket's are looking for us." Leaf said as she turned and began walking back towards the entrance.

Ash sighed as he followed, too tired to argue or really think too hard. They made their way out of the tunnel and crept through the dark town. There were a couple of Team Rocket members patrolling the area, but Leaf had released Willow and her Sableye and they were able to keep anyone from noticing the two humans travelling through the town.

Ash walked, legs numb and still half asleep for what felt like an eternity until he began to see the sky brighten. They had made it outside of the city and most of the way through route 16. Ash followed Leaf as they made their way south off of the path until they came to the edge of a body of water. They searched along the water until they found a small shelter that looked like had been made by a Cubone or Sandshrew.

"This will work," Leaf grunted as she made her way into the little shelter. It was relatively well hidden and quite a ways off the main path, but the most exciting part to Ash was that it looked dark inside. The small tree limbs that had been used to cover it did a great job blocking out the sun.

"Ash, release Buzz. Have him keep watch while we sleep. I'll have Spruce keep a look out also." Leaf said as she recalled Sableye and Willow and released her other Shiftry.

Ash grabbed Buzz's Pokeball but paused before releasing him. "Last I saw him he wasn't in such great shape. Yeah he's had a revive and some potions, but he really took a beating out there…." Ash stuttered, unsure of how to explain what he was feeling. He was afraid and didn't want Buzz to get hurt anymore. The moment in Mt Moon still haunted him.

"I get it." Leaf said, as she turned to look at Ash. "But this is the life you guys have chosen. The journey of a trainer, especially someone against Team Rocket is filled with danger. Danger is what makes us stronger. Defeats draw us closer to victory and being knocked out just means there is room for improvement."

"Besides, Buzz won't be getting into any combat. We just need him for the aerial view. If there is any trouble he can just relay the information to Spruce or us. I just don't want anyone sneaking up on us and I'm sure Buzz would like the opportunity to stretch his wings." Leaf continued as she saw that Ash was still hesitant.

Ash relented as he pushed the button on Buzz's Pokeball and the insect appeared in a flash of red light. Ash explained the plan to Buzz before finding a corner in the small shelter and promptly falling asleep.

X

The following week was the most grueling experience of Ash's young life. Leaf insisted on keeping a breakneck pace, making Ash run half of the time that they travelled. Besides that and trying to sleep during the day and staying up all night, they also went 36 hours without sleeping as they crossed the second half of Cycle Road, which was completely over water. Since the bridge was the only thing around and there was nowhere to hide on it, Leaf decided to just keep going instead of "waiting around like a sitting Psyduck".

By the time they arrived in Fuschia, Ash was worn out and barely able to function. His team wasn't much better, as Leaf had insisted that they continue to train and most of them also walked/ran with the trainers. Buzz and Spruce were on day guard duty, which meant they got to rest during the night but finished their shift with an intense training session that left Buzz exhausted. Ash was glad that he had taken some of the supplements in his backpack, as his team definitely needed the extra help with recovering from the workouts.

Ash spotted the signs of a town just as dawn was beginning. He ran up to where Leaf was and pointed. "Look! We don't have to sleep on the road again. We can have beds and warm food!" Ash said with glee.

"I know kid, let's try to get there before anyone wakes up," Leaf said as she recalled her team and picked up the pace. Ash followed suit, excited to finally sleep on a bed.

X

Ash slept through the whole day. When he finally woke up it was dark again, so he grabbed a quick meal for himself and his team before falling back asleep for the night.

He woke up in the morning still stiff but feeling a thousand times better than he did when they entered the city. On his way down to grab something to eat he ran into Leaf.

"Hey kid, I've got some bad news." She said as she looked around the hallway. She continued in a whisper as she saw nobody else around. "I looked everywhere and couldn't find any signs of Koga. Your Totodile isn't ready to make that long of a swim and frankly neither are you and without Koga we don't have any contacts for a boat."

"Well I can help you look for him, we just have to finish breakfast and then we're ready," Ash said. He didn't like this grim side of Leaf.

"Kid, I was out all night. Koga is a master of hiding and there's no way he would reveal himself during the day. I'll try to come up with another plan. Enjoy yourself. Spend the day exploring, maybe go and see the forest around here. I heard that they used to have a ton of rare Pokemon in that area, but they are all cleared out now. Although I imagine there might be some Beedrill."

"Oh well I guess I can do that," Ash stuttered out, surprised. "I just thought that we would stick together…"

Leaf laughed audibly before looking at Ash with tired eyes. "My team and I are used to being awake at night. Doing that this past week has gotten me back into my old rhythms and it's going to take some time to break that. Take a few days to enjoy the town, it's big enough and you blend in just fine." Leaf said as she yawned and waved Ash off before heading to her room.

Ash stood there for a moment before continuing what he was doing before the interruption. He made sure to grab a TM transfer device before heading back upstairs to where his team was. He gave the Silver Wind TM to Buzz and the Thunder Wave to Clefairy. He hoped that by introducing her to Electric energy this way she would be able to learn moves like Shockwave and Thunder Bolt easier.

They left the Pokemon center and headed towards the forest area that Leaf had been talking about. Ash vaguely remembered his Mom calling mentioning something about a safari and he wandered if this was it.

X

Ash and Buzz were walking through the forest when suddenly Buzz chittered at Ash and became incredibly still. Ash froze from the tone of Buzz and his hand instinctively went to Clefairy's Pokeball on his waist. Ash looked around, trying to see what had made Buzz so cautious. Unable to see anything, Ash relaxed as he turned and began talking to Buzz.

"What are you so worked up about buddy? There's nothi-" Ash stopped mid sentence as Buzz split into four copies using a quick Double Team. No sooner had he done this than a volley of needles pierced through the apparitions. Buzz chittered his challenge as he fired his own needles back at the aggressors.

Ash turned and saw three Beedrill flying towards Buzz, shooting needles out of their lances and abdomens. They were much smaller than Buzz, but Ash mentally reminded himself that Buzz was a monster of a specimen and these were probably full grown Beedrill.

Ash released Clefairy as the three Beedrill arrived at Buzz. There was a flurry of movement as the insects circled each other, each one trying to get the upper hand. Ash watched as the smaller ones outmaneuvered Buzz in the air, avoiding all of his jabs and landing plenty of their own. This only served to infuriate Buzz more as his attacks were useless against the much more nimble opponents.

"If one of them splits off, hit it with Dazzling Gleam," Ash said to Clefairy as they watched the battle. The other Beedrill landed plenty of hits on Buzz but his much thicker exoskeleton kept the jabs and needles from doing much damage.

Clefairy finally saw her opportunity as one of the aggressors flew above the rest after it narrowly avoided Buzz's lance. She fired a quick burst of pink energy that shot straight at the bug's chest. It quickly dropped down to dodge and turned its focus on Ash and Clefairy for the first time. It began flying towards them as Buzz shot two Electrowebs out, one onto the two Beedrill still attacking him and the other one to cover up the rogue bug that had turned on Clefairy.

The two opposing Beedrill were taken by surprise, having never seen this technique before and wound up trapped in the attack. The third one didn't even see it coming, being too focused on Clefairy and was thrown to the ground as it was caught in the web.

Buzz chittered firmly towards Clefairy as he continued to scan the woods around them. Ash looked down and saw Clefairy motioning to her Pokeball. "He wants us to let the others out?" Ash asked as he kneeled down to open his backpack where the others were at.

Clefairy shook her head and pointed to herself and then at her Pokeball again. "He wants you to go back in?" Ash asked, bewildered. Clefairy nodded and Ash looked at Buzz once again before recalling Clefairy. "I hope you know what you're doing," Ash said as he scanned the area. They were in a small clearing surrounded by dense trees and thick brush in every direction and he had no idea how many Beedrill or other wild Pokemon were out there.

He looked at the Beedrill that was still caught in the web on the ground close to him. The electricity had ran out of the web but between the face plant into the ground and the initial shock the Pokemon was knocked out. It looked like it had a busted wing, but other than that the injuries weren't serious. Ash remembered something he had read in Koga's book.

Wild Beedrill are extremely territorial. If an outside Beedrill comes into a hives territory they will swarm until the new threat is taken care of. If you ever find yourself in this position, run as fast as you can.

"Buzz, we should get out of here," Ash said as he began running towards the path they had come from. Individually Buzz could handle any of these wild Beedrill, but a whole hive was another story. Buzz's training as a Weedle and Kakuna would make him leagues ahead in durability than any of these Beedrill, but Beedrill were known for making up for their individual shortcomings by sheer numbers.

Ash had barely made it a few feet before he felt something sharp hit him in the back of his leg. He fell forward from the impact and hit his head hard on the ground. Buzz let out what was as much of a roar as a Beedrill could muster as he charged at the Beedrill that had struck Ash. Ash reached down to rub the spot where he had been hit and pulled out a large stinger than was oozing with poison. Ash looked in shock at the stinger before looking at his bleeding leg. The incision wasn't extremely large but Ash knew that the poison that was now coursing through his bloodstream would quickly end his life.

He tore open his backpack as he desperately tried finding any antidotes or Pecha berries that he had left. He'd done this plenty of times with his team, but suddenly it felt a lot more serious when he was the one in trouble. Ash looked up and saw Buzz fighting with at least two other Beedrill. He blinked twice and noticed that the blackness took a little bit longer to go away after each blink. His head felt heavy and he thought it would be best if he just lied down for a little bit.

He shook his head as he looked back down at his backpack. He had to blink again as he tried to focus on the bag and the objects inside. What was he looking for again? He spotted a vial with yellow liquid inside it and grabbed it quickly. He sprayed it on his leg which was still bleeding before deciding drinking it would be a good idea. He popped the lid off and gulped some down before instantly vomiting.

Meanwhile, Buzz was busy trying to fend off the Beedrill that kept coming at him. The smaller bugs continually dodged and successfully landed hits on Buzz. He knew they were taunting him and he lost all composure from his rage and lashed out with full aggression.

As he grew more and more desperate to get the bugs off of him he lost his defenses and began taking more stabs and pokes from the enemies. He saw Ash vomiting and that only enraged him further. He began firing Electrowebs like crazy out of his maw. Each web successfully hit the opposing bees and took them to the ground. He watched as they hit the ground but more Beedrill kept appearing to take their place. Buzz knew he couldn't keep this up forever but he had no other way of hitting the persistent insects.

Ash watched the whole scene from the ground as he chewed on a Pecha berry. He was still in shock but watched with glee as the bees dropped one by one in their own little webs. Ash counted 10 different Electrowebs and was pleased by Buzz's growth in his electricity. Ash watched as the next few Beedrill trapped in the webs kept wiggling before hitting the ground and realized that Buzz had ran out of his electric stores. Within the next few webs the opposing Beedrill were able to break free or dodge them, as Buzz was largely out of energy and his silk sack and electric stores were depleted.

Buzz looked ragged but kept fighting as the enemy Beedrill kept replenishing their numbers. Ash was impressed by how large this hive was but was concerned at the same time. He knew his friend wanted to handle this fight by himself but the way it was looking Ash was prepared to release the rest of his team. He wasn't going to let Buzz's pride get in the way of his safety.

Ash watched as a number of Beedrill came flying hard at Buzz, crashing into him and hurting themselves in the process. These hits took their toll on Buzz and after the third one clipped his wing he fell to the ground along with the Beedrill that hit him. After the impact he grabbed it in his teeth and shook it before throwing it to the side. He attempted to get into the air again but a few of the Beedrill that were already on the ground from the web shots blasted copious amounts of poison on his wings, making him unable to gain air.

Ash recognized the attack as Sludge Bomb, a move that he had been working on with Buzz. These smaller Beedrill seemed to have mastered it and successfully grounded Buzz as he charged towards them, lances shining with the energy needed for Rock Smash. Ash released the rest of his team as Buzz dispatched the Beedrill that were still on the ground.

Ash pointed towards the swarm that was flying overhead and began shouting commands to his team. "Dazzling Gleam, Water Gun, Ice Spear! Let's get them on the defensive!" His team instantly began following his commands, recognizing the gravity of the situation and seeing how beaten up Buzz was.

The Beedrill swarm scattered as their new opponents sent their attacks at them but quickly regathered and began flapping their wings in unison. Ash's team was able to knock a few of them out of the sky before a silver tint gleamed in the air and Ash felt the wind pick up hard. A second later the force from the wind had flattened Ash against the ground, leaving him struggling to even breathe. His team faced the same problem, with each of them shoved against the ground from the force of twenty or more Beedrill using Silver Wind in unison.

Ash turned his head to the side and looked into Buzz's eyes as he realized this was probably the end for them. Buzz looked bruised and beaten but the force from the wind had pushed the sludge off of his wings. Ash mouthed "You can do this too," as he didn't have the ability to get enough air to actually say the words. Buzz looked confused before realizing what Ash was saying.

His wings slowly started moving as his own Silver Wind worked against the others. He stuck one Lance into the ground, and then the other as he was able to pull himself up slightly. He looked up at the swarm with determination in his eyes.

Something gray suddenly struck down right in front of Buzz and smacked him across the face. Buzz tumbled across the ground as the swarm stopped the attack at the sight of the newcomer. Totodile wasted no time in firing off a Water Gun at the new Pokemon. It blurred out of existence before appearing right next to Totodile as the little water type went flying. It turned and dashed towards Blizz, its Lance glittering with fighting energy as it hit the Sandshrew hard. It picked up Blizz in its mouth and threw it at Clefairy, who had just fired a Dazzling Gleam at it. The blast hit Blizz as he soared into Clefairy. They both went tumbling as the new Pokemon charged after them, lances held in an X shape ready to finish them off. Ash recalled everyone besides Buzz as he kneeled before the green Beedrill, the Queen of the hive.

X

The Queen paused as it saw Ash bowing down and turned to look at Buzz who was doing the same thing. She flew over to him and they began chittering in a conversation. Ash was mentally going over what he had just seen the Queen do.

"Iron Defense to drop down into the Silver Wind. Something to Buzz, perhaps not an attack at all. It must have been Aerial Ace on Totodile, Rock Smash or Brick Break on Blizz and then it looked like she was preparing X-Scissor," Ash thought to himself as he realized how powerful the Queen of this hive was.

Ash was deep in thought when the Queen flew back over to him. He quickly lowered his gaze as she examined him. After a moment she lifted his head up with one of her lances and he looked into her eyes. He was reminded of the Queen back in Viridian forest, the one who had shaped so much of his early childhood. He remembered the sacrifice she made for him, and her gruesome death at the hands of Proton and Carl. A tear welled up in his eye from the memory.

The Queen finally released his head as she chittered something back to Buzz. They chittered for a while before the Queen looked at Ash again and chittered to him, expecting something. Ash looked to Buzz, confused on what the Queen was trying to say. Buzz reached down and pointed at a rock with one of his lances.

"A rock? What do you want with…" Ash started, confused but then realizing what they were asking for. Ash quickly reached into his backpack and pulled the stone that he had received from the Viridian Queen Beedrill out of the compartment it was in. He offered it up to the Beedrill before him.

The rest of the hive looked shocked at what Ash was holding. A few of the brave ones flew closer to really examine it before the Queen told them off. She grabbed it from Ash and examined it intensely as she chittered towards Buzz again. She held it in her lances for a few moments before looking at Ash again and handing it back. He graciously accepted it and put it back in his bag, next to the parcel for Gary Oak. She turned and motioned for all the other Beedrill to leave as she prepared herself. They went around grabbing their fallen comrades and headed back to their hive.

Ash spoke up, "Um, your highness?" He said as the Queen turned to look at him. He cursed inwardly at his own feebleness but continued nonetheless. "Your hive flew circles around Buzz. Honestly compared to them it looked like he didn't even have wings." Buzz glared hard at Ash but he continued.

"Buzz hasn't been with his hive basically since he evolved. He doesn't really know how to be a Beedrill. We do have some things that we know, like that Electroweb of his," Ash said as he pointed towards one of the remnants of the webs. The Queen seemed interested by this. Ash began to feel better about his request.

"I was wondering if Buzz could stay here with you for a while and learn what being a Beedrill means. He could help teach some of your Kakuna and Weedle some tricks and your hive could help him with his acrobatics and Silver Wind. And maybe some other moves if you wanted to." Ash added before his confidence left him. He knew that the Queen was always supposed to know more than the others but he desperately wanted Buzz to learn the moves he had just seen her use.

The Queen looked at Ash before turning to Buzz and having another conversation with him. Finally the Queen flew up twenty feet or so and waited as Buzz flew over to Ash. Ash looked at the bug before wrapping him up in a hug.

"I'll try to get you as much time as possible to train. Don't worry, I won't go anywhere without you. If we aren't planning to leave within a week I'll be back here to let you know. This will be good for you. Go learn how to actually fly like a Beedrill. It was humiliating watching them weave around you like that," Ash said as he released Buzz from the hug. He could feel his eyes watering up but he waved good bye as Buzz turned and flew off with the Queen. She was the only Beedrill that he didn't completely dwarf and Ash was glad that he was in good hands.

A/N: Alrighty a little bit of a shorter chapter but I felt like this was a good ending place and I wanted to keep on my current update pattern of every other week. I hope you guys enjoyed it, I know Buzz may seem a little overpowered in this chapter but let me try to break it down a little using game mechanics. Beedrills evolve at level 10, so let's assume all of the swarm are level 10 and Buzz is around level 30-35. In this scenario, not very effective attacks would only do 1-2 damage and an attack like Electroweb from a level 30 pokemon would definitely one shot a level 10 Beedrill. Plus let's remember Buzz has solid EV's based on all his supplements too. So it makes sense in my eyes and if you don't like feel free to leave me a review to tell me all about it.

Anyways, Like I said I need OC's! We have a lot of action coming up in the next few chapters and I'll need some original characters. Guidelines regarding this; If it's a member of Team Rocket I need Officers and Senior Officers. They can have 3 Pokemon that are "Rank 3" or lower in this world. I haven't released the ranking system but look at some of the ones I've used so far and guess off of that. Most final stages of Pokemon that have three stages (Victreebell, Machamp, etc) are off limits. Snorlax and Kanghaskan as well as the fossil Pokemon final stages are also off limits. Also keep it to Kanto unless it makes sense to use a Johto Pokemon.

Non-team Rocket members need a good backstory. These should probably be connected to the resistance somehow; trained under one of the gym leaders, child of an Officer Jenny, etc. You've seen how I've introduced some of these characters already so go from there. I'm not looking for someone overpowered; at Ash's level, worse than Ash, or slightly above Ash works great.

Here's a guideline form you should fill out and send back as a PM or a review.

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Hometown (Kanto only, Johto may be allowed):
Attitude(Cocky, Timid, Looking for a fight, only fights when needed, etc):
Rank: Pick one Agent, Grunt, Officer, Sr. Officer. (Officers preferred)
Party:

If Agent only pick starters Rattata, Zubat, Koffing, Ekans, Weedle.
Grunts get 2 pokemon usually Starters / 2
nd evolution of starters.
Officers get 3 pokemon, Rank 3 or lower. (Most Officers probably would still have their starters evolution, if they do not have this starter explain what happened to it (evolved and taken away, released, etc.) any why)

I definitely need at least 3-5 Team Rocket members and I could use a couple non rockets. Leave a review with your details or PM me, I'm looking forward to it! Thanks so much guys.
