Chapter 58
June 3rd – Light and Chief Yagami Confinement Day 3
The past 3 days have been horrible…it's torture sitting here day after day, watching the Chief stress himself out over Light when all Light does is sit there and manipulate us. Him and Ryuk just sit there in that cell, Light eats the daily provided meals, but otherwise says nothing. So not surprisingly all Kira activity has ceased. Rem hasn't returned yet either…this is good news for us, it points at them both being Kira, but it doesn't prove it. How can you prove something that only you can see? Only I can see…However, I have my doubts, something about this is way too easy. Light may be a manipulative asshole, but he's a smart manipulative asshole. He's gotta have a plan that we're just not aware of yet…I guess if I was him, I'd find a way to get Rem to find a replacement Kira. She'd do anything for Misa and if the killing started back up again, well, we'd have no reason to continue to keep them here. It's almost like he's waiting for something though…what could it be.
The Chief sighs, the sound carrying through the speakers and bringing my attention to his screen. "Ryuzaki, Suzuki, what's happening out there? Have any new criminals been announced that Kira might target?"
I sigh not knowing how to break it to him; we haven't spoken since he went in there…and even then, we didn't say much…I couldn't bring myself to…it was his decision to come and confine himself and if Ryuzaki couldn't stop him what could I do?
"Some new criminals have appeared on the news…but none have been killed since you all were confined." Ryuzaki comes to the rescue and speaks bluntly in my stead. My heart physically hurts as I watch the Chiefs face drain of hope.
"Oh…I see." He clasps his hands, stares at the floor, and goes back to being quiet.
"Mr. Stalker…" My eyes move to Misa's screen. "I want to take a bath…you know where I live right? Can you bring me some new clothes?" I sigh and lean back awaiting Ryuzaki's ruling, but it never comes.
"Ryuzaki…" Light lifts his head, his voice hoarse. I look to his screen and Ryuk fidgets behind him. "Have there been any new Kira deaths?" I can't keep from rolling my eyes.
You know there haven't been any deaths you snake. You're in there and so is Ryuk, so it's impossible for you to kill anyone…cept you can control the time of death so why didn't you plan it so one person dies every day at some random time to make it look like there's a third Kira? Or did you not think of that? Do we have you backed into a corner, Light? Are you making rash decisions?
"No Light, there hasn't been any…" Ryuzaki tells him the truth and he looks up surprised.
"No one? Are you sure?"
What the hell? Why is he acting this way? Was my theory right? Was Rem supposed to find a replacement Kira and hasn't yet. Or does it have nothing to do with her at all? All this speculating is just gonna give me a headache but…why is he so surprised…could it really be just an act?
"Yes, I'm sure?"
"Then maybe it's true, maybe I am Kira." Light looks back down and it clicks.
Oooh I see, he's playing innocent, it's scary how good of an actor he is…
"It's only been 3 days; it might just be coincidence." Ryuzaki's voice comes through, but I detect the same curiosity or confusion that I'm feeling, in his voice. Something the others probably wouldn't notice.
Ryuzaki knows Light's up to something…I wonder if Light is trying to convince us that he's only Kira subconsciously…it fits the sweet act, but if the killing doesn't start up again, he's still screwed.
"Ryuzaki." Light looks up again. "What about Misa? Has she said anything that could help us find Kira?"
Why ask a question you know we can't answer?
"You know I can't answer that." Ryuzaki's voice is calm.
"Oh, right, sorry…" He goes quiet again.
The way Light is acting is suspicious…it doesn't really make sense…but I guess we'll just wait and see how Lights plan plays out.
