The sun was beginning to set over New Domino City, and Yusei and Akiza were watching it together from the balcony of Goodwin's mansion. "I wonder if the sunset was this red 5000 years ago," Akiza wondered. "Who knows. But I do know that it won't be this way tomorrow if we don't protect the world," Yusei responded. In the Satellite, Crow's and Lazar's duel was still going.
Lazar: 4000 LP
Crow: 2000 LP
Lazar's field: Jester Lord, Discord, and Imperial Custom.
"Come on, let's keep going. Or are you gonna end your turn?" Crow asked. "Don't be impatient. You'll be dancing in the palm of my hand soon enough," Lazar taunted. Crow just chuckled and responded "We'll see which of us is going to dance." "I special summon Jester Confit in attack mode," Lazar declared as he summoned another clownish monster.
Level 1/Dark/Spellcaster
ATK 0/DEF 0
"What? Are you trying to mock me?" Crow asked. "He summoned another monster with no attack or defense points, and since there's another monster on the field, Jester Lord's effect is canceled, so it goes back to having 0 attack points," Crow thought to himself as he tried to piece together Lazar's plan.
"I'll place one card face-down and end my turn," Lazar conceded. "What are you planning? You're pretty sly," Crow commented. "I can say the same about you. Although I can figure out your plans easily," Lazar said as he pulled out his device again. "Here goes. I draw!" Crow shouted before Lazar pressed a button on his duel disk.
"I activate the continuous trap Late Penalty. During your standby phase, if you do not control a monster, you must skip your battle phase for the turn," Lazar explained as the screen on Crow's duel disk shifted to his main phase 2. "What? You didn't let me attack last turn either. That's a dirty trick!" Crow shouted.
"So tell me, what kind of dance will you show me?" Lazar asked before he and his monsters began laughing at Crow. "No way am I going to dance for you," Crow responded angrily as Lazar continued to read through Crow's rap sheet, taking notice of a particular trap in Crow's deck. "Fake Feather. This will let Crow activate the effect of a normal trap in my graveyard. If he has it in his hand, it will be a big problem for me," he thought to himself.
"Even if I can't attack, my duelist pride won't let me end my turn without summoning a monster! I play Blackwing - Sirocco the Dawn! Even though this guy is level 5, I can summon him without tributing when you control monsters and I don't," Crow explained.
Level 5/Dark/Winged Beast
ATK 2000/DEF 900
"Since he summoned it, he must not have Fake Feather in his hand," Lazar thought to himself. "Next, I place one card face-down," Crow continued before Lazar asked if he was ending his turn. "Not just yet. I play the spell card Reload. With it, I return the last card in my hand to my deck before I shuffle and draw 1 new card," Crow explained.
"That's an all-or-nothing approach. How droll. Quite unbefitting of a clown such as yourself," Lazar mocked. "I'm no clown buddy, but I'm gonna be the one laughing at the end of this. I place one card face-down and end my turn," Crow declared, smirking outright.
"It seems you got the card you wanted, however it won't help you," Lazar thought to himself. "I activate the effect of Jester Confit! Since I special summoned it with its effect during my last turn, it returns itself and one of your monsters to our hands during your end phase," Lazar explained as both Jester Confit and Sirocco the Dawn disappeared in a puff of smoke.
"I can't believe it! Outsmarted by a clown! Wait, since Jester Lord is the only monster on the field, that means-" Crow began to say as five juggling balls appeared in Jester Lord's hands, the monster juggling them merrily as they all lit on fire.
Jester Lord: 0-5000 ATK
"I don't believe it! I played right into his hands! How could I be such an idiot?!" Crow berated himself. "It seems this duel is over. I draw. Do you really think I'll let my guard down and attack you if you pretend to look frustrated?" Lazar asked, seeing through Crow's act of panic.
"Beg pardon?" Crow asked in an attempt to throw Lazar off. "I know the key to your victory is hidden in those two set cards. You've faced Sector Security officers dozens of times, and all the data from those duels has been input into this device," Lazar informed.
"Since he summoned Sirocco the Dawn last turn instead of keeping it in his hand, this first card he set wasn't Fake Feather, meaning that it must be the second card he set - the one he drew from Reload," Lazar thought to himself before pulling a card from his hand.
"I activate the Card of Distrain spell card. With it, since you have at least two face-down cards, I can choose one of them and prevent you from activating it this turn, and I choose the second card you set last turn," he declared as a purple crystal embedded itself in Crow's card, pinning it to the ground.
"And now we reach the final curtain call. Jester Lord, attack him directly!" Lazar shouted. Crow lifted his head up, revealing his wide smirk. "I play the Fake Feather trap card!" he shouted as the card Lazar feared most flipped up on his field. "What?!" Lazar exclaimed in shock.
"By sending a Blackwing in my hand to the graveyard, I can activate a trap from yours! I discard Sirocco the Dawn to activate Imperial Manners, so your Jester Lord is destroyed!" Crow shouted as Lazar's monster was veiled in a purple aura before it shattered like glass.
"Don't underestimate me, because my instincts are a thousand times better than any fancy computer and data. I knew what you were up to the moment you special summoned Jester Confit," Crow said once Lazar's monster was destroyed. "You pretended to fall into my trap to trick me?" Lazar asked, angry Crow had gotten the better of him.
"Now, what kind of dance will you show me?" Crow asked. "Interesting. I didn't think a duelist like you existed among the Satellite sewer rats," Lazar commented, somewhat impressed with Crow. "Sewer rats and crows are a lot tougher than the pets in the city," Crow responded.
"I'm impressed that you're proud to be a sewer rat. However, my Card of Distrain has another effect. If you activate a card other than the one I selected this turn, you take 800 points of damage," Lazar explained.
Crow: 1200 LP
"And, I'll once again special summon my Jester Confit," he continued. "That annoying monster is back," Crow commented. "Next, I equip Jester Confit with the Spirit Burner spell card. This will switch him to defense mode, and if the equipped monster returns to my hand, this card will inflict 600 points of damage to you, and if it happens to be in my graveyard during my draw phase, I can give up my normal draw to add this card to my hand," Lazar explained.
"I see. Thanks to your Late Penalty trap card, if I don't have any monsters during my standby phase, I can't attack, and if I summon a monster, Jester Confit will just return it to my hand and your spell card will deal me damage," Crow surmised. "Exactly. You cannot defeat this combo. I end my turn," Lazar declared, but Crow just smiled.
"We'll see about that. You see, you were right about one thing, my face-down cards did hold the key to my victory. I draw. And since it's not sealed by your spell card anymore, I can activate the trap card Trap Stun. This card negates the effects of all other trap cards until the end of this turn," Crow explained as Lazar's continuous traps turned gray.
"With your traps negated, you can't stop me from attacking or synchro summoning. I play the tuner monster Blackwing - Blizzard the Far North in attack mode!" he continued.
Level 2/Dark/Winged Beast
ATK 1300/DEF 0
"And due to his effect, since he was normal summoned, I can bring out a level 4 or lower Blackwing from my graveyard in defense mode, so I bring back Bora the Spear in defense mode," Crow explained.
Level 4/Dark/Winged Beast
ATK 1700/DEF 800
"And now I tune level 4 Bora the Spear with level 2 Blizzard the Far North! Dark power, infuse the gigantic wings to create a divine wind! Appear, Blackwing - Armed Wing!" Crow shouted.
Level 6/Dark/Winged Beast
ATK 2300/DEF 1000
"You have summoned a synchro monster, but since Jester Confit is in defense mode, I won't take damage if you attack," Lazar pointed out. "Sorry to disappoint, but when Armed Wing attacks a monster in defense mode, not only does he deal piercing damage, but he also gains 500 attack points during his attack," Crow explained.
Armed Wing: 2300-2800 ATK
Lazar just stood in disbelief that Crow was turning the tables on him. "Now Armed Wing, take out his Jester Confit!" Crow ordered before his monster raised its blade and cut clean through Lazar's clown.
Lazar: 1200 LP
"Looks like we're even," Crow pointed out. "Very interesting. I guess it's time… to see who the real clown is!" Lazar shouted. Suddenly, the ground beneath their feet began to shake. "What is this? An earthquake?" Crow asked. "This is bad. It must be starting!" Lazar exclaimed in a panic.
The ground continued to shake and a pillar of purple light erupted from the crater in the downtown part of the Satellite. "What is that?" Crow asked. "No! I didn't think it would start this early!" Lazar said as he removed his deck from his duel disk before taking it off and running.
"Wait! You can't just leave, we're in the middle of a duel!" Crow shouted before he started chasing after Lazar. "This isn't the time! I need to get out of here right now!" Lazar shouted as he continued to run. "Quit messing around! You're a punk if you throw away your life as a duelist and run away!" Crow said as he removed the cable from his duel disk and threw the cuff at Lazar, hitting him in the back of the head.
"Sorry, but my actual life is much more important right now!" Lazar responded as he raised his arm, a balloon inflating from his sleeve and lifting him off the ground. "If you want to live, you had better start running now!" he advised as he floated away. "You should at least say that we'll continue our duel later!" Crow shouted in anger.
The ground shook again and a black mist started spreading through the streets. Crow got to his duel runner and mounted it before stepping on the gas, trying to get away from the cloud. In the streets, everyone was noticing the mist as it seeped its way through the Satellite.
They all tried to run, but they were slowly caught up in the cloud and vanished. Meanwhile, Crow was still riding his duel runner trying to get away from the mist. "Darn it. I won't allow myself to fall here!" he shouted as the mist started gaining on him. Soon, the mist had settled over the Satellite, and there wasn't a single person to be found.
In Goodwin's mansion Alex was walking down the hallway looking for Atticus, finding him in the dining room. "Hey Alex, you ready for this?" Atticus asked. "Yeah. I think you dropped something," Alex said as he pointed to the floor beside his uncle's chair. While Atticus bent down to check, Alex quickly brought out a small vial and dumped its contents into his uncle's drink.
"I hope this works," he thought to himself as his uncle sat back up, still unaware his drink had been tampered with. "There was nothing there bud," Atticus said. "Oh, my bad," Alex responded, rubbing the back of his hand. "It's alright," Atticus assured as he brought his cup to his mouth and took a drink.
He then let out a big yawn and rubbed his eyes. "Feeling tired?" Alex asked. "Yeah. I don't know why I'm so tired all of a sudden," Atticus admitted, feeling wide awake just a moment ago. "Maybe you should get some rest before we leave," Alex suggested.
"Good idea. Come get me when we're ready to go," Atticus agreed before walking off. "Alex, what did you do to Atticus?" Yubel asked once he had left. "Well…" Alex said before he told her.
Flashback
"Goodwin, I want to ask you for a favor," Alex said as he walked up to the head of Sector Security. "What is it Alex?" Goodwin asked. "I want to make sure my uncle stays here. I don't wanna put him in danger," Alex admitted, hating the idea of losing someone else he cared about.
"I see. Give me a moment please," Goodwin responded before he walked into the adjacent room before coming back a minute later with a small vial filled with a clear liquid, handing it to Alex. "With the stress of my work, I have a difficult time sleeping. That liquid is a powerful sleeping agent. If you can get your uncle to drink it, he should be asleep long enough for you to get to the Satellite without him," Goodwin explained.
"And you're sure it's safe?" Alex asked. "Positive. Just pour some in his drink and he'll be asleep in five minutes flat and won't awaken for several hours. I suggest you carry your plan out soon. You'll be departing before too long," Goodwin informed.
End of Flashback
"I can't believe you did that. Atticus is going to be livid when he finds out," Yubel responded once Alex finished explaining himself. "I know, but I just don't wanna lose anyone else," Alex admitted. "It's okay. I'm sure he'll forgive you," the spirit assured. Alex then met up with everyone else to wait for Goodwin. Mina arrived and escorted them all to Sector Security.
"You all need to see this," Mina said as she uploaded a video feed of the Satellite to the monitor. All the streets were empty, and there was a black dome over the Satellite. "Mina, can we fly in?" Yusei asked. "I think so, but it's dangerous. Our scans won't penetrate it, and we could lose the video feed any moment now," Mina responded.
True to her word, the monitors started going out one by one until they all showed static. "I'm going. I won't stand by while the Dark Signers continue to put innocent people in danger," Alex stated. "Of course. I'll call the helicopter, but you all need to be careful. We have no idea what's waiting for you over there," Mina warned.
They all headed up to the roof and were met by Goodwin. "Well, this is it," Luna said as they waited for the helicopter. "Jack, can I ask you a question?" Mina asked as she turned to the signer in question. "I'd prefer it if you didn't," Jack responded flatly. "We all know the Dark Signers love revenge and anger," Mina pointed out.
"You're point being? That they can use that against me? Carly's out there somewhere, and I'm not gonna stop until I get her back, even if I have to beat every Dark Signer myself," Jack responded. "Misty is mine. You can duel whoever else you want Jack, but Misty is my opponent. She took my parents from me, and I won't let anyone get in my way of defeating her myself," Alex warned.
"I understand your anger Alex, but you need to maintain your focus. You must find the original Ener-D reactor in the Satellite," Goodwin informed. "The original what?" Akiza asked. "It's the source of the negative energy that caused this dark smoke to appear," Goodwin answered.
"So what do we do when we find it?" Luna inquired. "Once you find it, you must activate it in reverse. With any luck, it will release a burst of positive energy that will reseal the army of shadows," Goodwin explained as a helicopter began to approach them. "I've arranged for special transportation to the Satellite, and I believe you already know the pilot," Goodwin said as the helicopter landed.
The pilot exited the craft and was revealed to be Officer Trudge. "We're fueled up and ready to go sir," Trudge confirmed. "Hope you packed some peanuts," Yusei joked. "Wait, I'm supposed to fly you? Goodwin, what is it with you and this guy?! First you want him in jail, then you want him out, and now you're giving him a first class ride! Well you can forget it!" Trudge shouted.
"We don't have time for this!" Alex snapped. Everyone stared at him, surprised by his sudden outburst. "This is more important than your personal vendetta against Yusei. You claim to be an officer of the law who protects the people of New Domino City. Well, the safety of everyone in the city, not to mention the entire world, depends on Yusei and the rest of us getting to the Satellite, so you can either keep acting like a child or do your job," Alex continued.
"You, I…" Trudge stammered, at a loss for words. "Goodwin, before we do this, you have to promise me something," Yusei said as he turned to the director. "What is it?" Goodwin asked. "If we succeed and save the world, you have to finish the bridge between the Satellite and the city. People have a right to be free, and I won't go unless you agree," Yusei responded firmly.
"Yusei, it may not even be possible to do that. For years, the people of the Satellite and the city lived far apart. It's a way of life everyone accepts. Change, especially one so great, takes time," Goodwin replied. "Then I guess you're going to have to find a sixth signer, because unless you promise to do it, you're one deck short," Yusei responded.
"Very well, I'll build the bridge. You have my word," Goodwin responded. "Let's get the lead out. There's no time to waste," Trudge said as they all boarded the helicopter and departed for the Satellite. "Here I come Misty. And no one's going to stop me," Alex thought to himself as they approached the Satellite.
