Chapter 2: Breaking the News

Sam woke up in the morning, almost forgetting what happened the night before. She lost the All Valley. The most important night in her life, when everyone was counting on her, and she lost. Now Cobra Kai would grow and it was all her fault. As Sam was thinking this, her dad and mom enter the room. Sam began to grow concerned when she saw that their eyes were red from crying.

"Sam…we need to tell you something." Daniel says while nearly tearing up again.

"What happened?" Sam asks growing concerned.

"It's…he…" Is all Daniel can say before turning away from Sam. More tears begin falling out and he can't bring himself to face his own daughter. Sam was now terrified. She had never seen her dad get this way before.

"What's going on?" Sam asks as she looks at both her dad and mom.

"I'm so sorry honey." Amanda says.

"Please just tell me." Sam says as her breathing became more erratic. Amanda takes a deep breath before talking to her daughter.

"Last night, someone broke into the Diaz apartment." Amanda says before tearing up herself.

"Is Miguel okay?" Sam asks quickly.

"Miguel got attacked. He got stabbed several times. He's in critical condition and he may not survive." Amanda says. Sam doesn't do anything. She stares blankly at her mom, not moving.

"You're joking, right?" Sam asks with a tremor in her voice.

"I'm sorry Sam." Amanda says. The tears begin forming in Sam's face.

"No, no no!" Sam shouts before she begins sobbing. Amanda reaches out to her and Sam accepts her embrace.

"Not Miguel. Not Miguel." Sam repeats over and over again.

Later…

Eli and Demetri were hanging out in Eli's house. The two spent the night together after Miyagi-Do lost the All Valley.

"Hey, you good man?" Eli asks.

"No. Maybe, if I had scored a point on Robby…" Demetri says.

"Don't think like that. We're gonna find a way to get through this." Eli says.

"Sure." Demetri says as he turns on the TV. The news was on.

"Last night at these apartments, a brutal attack took place." A news reporter says.

"Isn't that where Miguel lives?" Demetri asks. Eli nods and the two continue watching.

"Local teen, Miguel Diaz, was violently attacked and stabbed repeatedly inside his apartment. The teen is currently fighting for his life." The news reporter says. It takes a moment for Eli and Demetri to process what was being said.

"What the hell!?" Demetri shouts. Eli doesn't say anything and just stares at the TV in shock.

"How…how." Is all Eli can say before tearing up.

"This attack was just hours after bus driver Thomas Nelson was found stabbed to death. Police have yet to confirm if these two crimes are connected." The news reporter says. The two boys continue to stare at the TV.

"This can't be real. Please tell me I'm dreaming. For the love of god, tell me I'm dreaming!" Demetri shouts. Eli's phone begins ringing and he sees that Moon is calling him.

"I need to take this. She's probably just as confused as we are." Eli says. Demetri can tell that his binary brother is trying his best not to sob.

"Yeah. She needs you." Demetri says. Eli nods and answers the call while walking to a different room.

"Hey." Eli says weakly.

"Oh my god. Did you see the news?!" Moon shouts.

"Yeah." Eli says.

"I'm so sorry Eli." Moon says.

"Thanks." Eli says while choking up.

"I'm coming over. Is that okay with you?" Moon asks.

"Yes. Demetri's here as well. We're all a mess right now." Eli admits.

"I know. I still can't believe it's real." Moon says.

Later…

Robby and Tory were walking along the beach together. Tory seemed to be feeling down, so Robby thought this might cheer her up.

"So, do you wanna tell me why you're acting all grumpy?" Robby asks.

"I'm sorry, but I don't really want to talk about it." Tory says. She was still recovering from finding out that Terry Silver had bribed the ref.

"Hey, it's okay. Does this help a little though?" Robby asks.

"Yeah. Thanks." Tory says as she begins looking at the waves. That's when several Cobra Kai members approach the two.

"There you guys are! Did you hear what happened to Rhea last night?" Kyler asks.

"No. What happened?" Robby asks. Kyler pulls out his phone and shows Robby and Tory the headline. Tory can't help but hang her mouth agape and Robby looks slightly disturbed.

"Did they catch the guy who did it?" Robby asks.

"No. Rhea deserved it anyway." Kyler says. Robby glares at Kyler.

"Did you have something to do with this?" Robby asks.

"No. Why are you accusing me? If anything, you would be the one to do something like this." Kyler points out.

"Guys, stop. Let's just focus on our win." Kenny says. Robby shakes his head.

"Sorry, I think I need to be on my own." Robby says as he walks away from the Cobras. Tory quickly follows him.

"Hey, you good?" Tory asks him.

"What do you think? Every single person on the planet is gonna think I'm responsible for what happened to Miguel. The person who actually did that is sick." Robby says.

"Do you think some of the Cobras did it?" Tory asks.

"No way. That's a line not even they would cross." Robby says.

"What about Kyler though?" Tory asks.

"Honestly, I'm not sure. All I know is that the person who did that needs to go to prison and then rot in hell." Robby says.

Later…

Carmen, Rosa, and Johnny were all waiting at the hospital anxiously. They had been waiting for hours for any update on Miguel. They nearly jumped out of their seats when a doctor approached them.

"How is he?" Carmen asks.

"He's awake." The doctor says. Carmen sighs in relief as the doctor motions for them to follow him. The doctor takes them to a room and everyone sees Miguel.

"Hey." Miguel says in a raspy voice.

"Thank god that you're okay." Carmen says as she kisses his forehead.

"I can't believe I'm here again." Miguel says.

"Hey, you need to get some rest, okay?" Johnny suggests.

"I know, but I need to tell you guys something." Miguel says. Everyone leans closer to hear what Miguel says next. "The person who attacked me was dressed up like Ghostface from Stab. I also think he knew Karate." Miguel reveals.

Later…

Sam was lying in bed, refusing to get out. After hearing what happened to Miguel, it was as if a piece of her was ripped out. She didn't want to talk to anyone. That's why she ignored her phone when it rang the first three times. However, during the fourth, Sam gave in and answered the call from an unknown number.

"Hello?" Sam asks.

"Hey. I want to play a game." A voice says.
