Chapter 5: The Rules
Robby was shaking as he stood outside of Tory's apartment. Eventually, Tory arrived.
"Robby? What are you doing here?" Tory asks.
"Kyler's dead. Piper is the lead suspect." Robby says bluntly. Tory raises an eyebrow.
"You're joking, right?" Tory asks. Robby just stares at her. "Holy shit, you're serious." Tory says.
"Yes, and I got a funny feeling the cops are gonna start asking us questions." Robby says.
"Why are you so nervous? You've got nothing to hide, right?" Tory asks.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Robby asks.
"Nothing!" Tory says.
"Sorry, I'm just…worried. First Miguel, my rival, gets attacked and now Kyler? I have a funny feeling I'm gonna become a suspect. I don't wanna go back to juvie." Robby says.
"Well, if you didn't do anything, you'll be fine." Tory says.
"Do you think I'm a suspect?" Robby asks.
"Uh, of course not." Tory says. However, Robby can hear the unease in her voice.
"I get it, I do look pretty damn suspicious. But I promise you, I have nothing to do with this." Robby says. Just then, Robby receives a text from his phone and looks at it. It was from Kenny.
Later…
"Hey, do you have my phone?" Moon asks.
"No, I put it on the coffee table." Eli says.
"Well, it's not there." Moon says.
"What?" Eli asks. He walks over to where he put Moon's phone and sure enough, it's disappeared.
"Demetri? Did you take Moon's phone?" Eli asks.
"No, I never touched it." Demetri says. Suddenly, both Demetri and Eli get messages on their phones.
"We need to talk. Let's meet at the food court." A text from Sam reads. It was sent to a bunch of people.
"Sam's asking us to meet her at the food court." Eli says.
"Well, we better not keep her waiting." Moon says.
"What about your phone?" Eli asks.
"I'm sure it'll turn up at some point. Let me know if you see it." Moon says.
Later…
Robby arrives at the Payne residence and is greeted by Kenny.
"Is he here?" Robby asks.
"Yeah." Kenny says while letting Robby inside. That's when Robby sees him. Shawn Payne was sitting on the living room couch.
"Hey, Karate boy." Shawn says while standing up. Robby smiles.
"When did you get released?" Robby asks.
"Just yesterday. Listen, I heard about everything you've been doing for my bro, and I wanted to thank you." Shawn says.
"It's no big deal." Robby says.
"It is. You've helped him gain the confidence I've been wanting him to have for years. You deserve all the praise you can get. Even though I treated you like shit, you still took the time to make sure my family was okay. I respect that." Shawn says. Robby's grin widens and he and Shawn share a quick bro hug.
"So, what's the first thing you guys wanna do now?" Kenny asks.
"I really just wanna eat at the food court. That crap they serve in juvie is all I've eaten for the past few months." Shawn says.
"Sure, let's go." Robby says.
Later…
Eli, Demetri, and Moon arrive at the food court and see Sam, Anthony, Yasmine, Chris, Mitch, Bert, Nate, and Devon. They were sitting at a table. Eli, Demetri, and Moon join them.
"I'm sure you all know what happened." Sam says.
"Yeah. I hope they find the bastard that tried to kill Miguel." Eli says.
"Someone also murdered Kyler. And, one more thing." Sam says while pointing at her bruises. "This person attacked me as well." She says.
"Jesus, why the hell is someone out for us?" Eli asks.
"This has to be Cobra Kai, right?" Chris asks.
"Then why would they target Kyler?" Demetri asks.
"Are you guys forgetting about Piper? She obviously did all of this!" Yasmine says.
"She did send that photo…" Moon says.
"What photo?" Sam asks. Eli and Demetri hesitate.
"Piper sent Moon a photo of Kyler's body." Demetri finally says.
"There you have it! Case closed." Yasmine says.
"I…I don't think it's Piper." Sam says.
"What? There's literally evidence." Yasmine points out.
"Yeah, but I was able to beat Piper with ease at the tournament." Sam says.
"Yeah, Sam kicked her ass." Anthony says.
"The person who was dressed as Ghostface, when I fought them, was skilled. Also, do not really think Piper could take on Miguel?" Sam asks.
"So, are you saying Piper was framed? Demetri asks.
"But Devon saw her enter Kyler's house." Bert says.
"I never saw her actually kill Kyler, so…" Devon says.
"Someone skilled at fighting killed Kyler and tried to kill Miguel and me. The real reason I gathered you all here…is to ask where you all were when we were attacked." Sam says.
"Wait, are you saying we're suspects?" Moon asks.
"We can't rule anything out. This killer has targeted someone from all three dojos. We have no idea who they're aligned with." Sam says.
"Well, you can rule me out. I arrived back from Sydney about five hours ago." Yasmine says.
"Doesn't rule you out from my attack." Sam says.
"Come on, Sam. Do you really picture me, of all people, attacking you?" Yasmine asks.
"I guess not." Sam says,
"Chris, Bert, and Nate spent the night at my place last night. We've been hanging out together until you called us here." Mitch says.
"I…was by myself until I met Eli at his place." Demetri confesses.
"So, you two were alone during Miguel's attack?" Sam asks.
"Yeah." Eli says reluctantly.
"I was home with my parents. They can vouch for me." Moon says.
"Same. I'm good for Miguel and Sam's attacks." Devon says.
"I was with Sam when Ghostface attacked us." Anthony says.
"Wait…I'm sorry, did you say Ghostface?" Demetri asks.
"Yeah?" Anthony responds.
"Wow, our killer definitely has good taste." Demetri says.
"Seriously? This isn't a time to joke around!" Sam says. However, Demetri ignores her.
"I'm sure you're all familiar with Ghostface right?" Demetri asks. Eli is the only one who nods. "Seriously? None of you have heard of any of the Ghostface killings?" Demetri says.
"Well, why don't you nerd away and explain it to us." Yasmine says. Demetri smiles.
"Okay. It all started in 1995 when two guys, Billy Loomis and Stu Macher, committed their first murder. A year later in 1996, they went on a killing spree. Dressed as Ghostface, they killed and injured many people until they were finally stopped by Sidney Prescott. Ever since then, people have taken up the Ghostface identity to kill more people, usually targeting Sidney.
"And..she's still alive?" Sam asks.
"Yep, survived every Ghostface to date." Demetri says.
"So why is…Ghostface…targeting us?" Yasmine asks.
"That…is something I can't explain." Demetri says.
"Okay, so how do you survive a Ghostface killing?" Sam asks.
"Well, you gotta follow the three rules. Number one, you can never have sex. Number two, you can never drink or do drugs. Number three, never say you'll be right back." Demetri says.
"Wait, for the first rule, is making out okay?" Yasmine asks.
"Yeah…I think." Demetri says.
"Okay, this is stupid. There's no way these 'rules' actually apply here." Chris says. Suddenly, someone dressed as Ghostface appears in the food court.
"Chris! Behind you!" Demetri shouts as Ghostface runs at Chris with a knife.
