Alex's field: Evil HERO Stone Guardian

Roman's field: Earthbound Immortal Uru, Spider Web, Roar of the Earthbound

"Start talking Roman. What did you mean when you said I set this into motion?" Alex asked. "By now I'm sure you know the story of how every 5000 years the battle between the Earthbound Immortals and the Crimson Dragon happens again," Roman assumed. "I know that, but I get the feeling there's something I don't know," Alex responded.

Roman asked Alex if he knew how the Earthbound Immortals came into existence in the first place, and Alex said he didn't. "They came to be because of you. Alex," Roman informed, much to the shock of everyone else. "What are you talking about? How could I be responsible?" Alex asked.

"The answer to that question lies in your first life. You see, your ancestor, and your father's past life, the original Supreme King, had a son. Like your father, you also are a reincarnated being," Roman informed. Alex asked how the Earthbound Immortals fit into the story.

"You see, when you were no more than a child, your parents had passed away of some unknown illness, leaving you the only heir to the throne and the ruler of the kingdom. Soon, the news of the king and queen's death had spread to a neighboring kingdom. They thought that with a mere child on the throne, it would be simple to overthrow the kingdom," Roman informed.

Alex said that no army was a match for the Evil Heroes, but Roman informed him that while that had been the case, Alex hadn't been trained to use their power fully before his father passed. "So what happened?" Alex asked. "The war continued and just when all hope for your people seemed lost, you made a deal," Roman answered.

Alex asked who he made a deal with, and Roman told him he bargained with the King of the Netherworld. "You had heard stories of the power he had and thought he could help you save your kingdom, so you made a deal. He would give you an army like the world had never seen, and in return you would do anything he asked," Roman informed.

"Wait, the army he gave the prince. It was the Earthbound Immortals?" Alex asked, the pieces beginning to come together. "Indeed. With their power, the war swiftly ended, but when the time came for you to uphold your end of the deal, you were horrified by what had been asked of you," Roman responded. Alex said he couldn't imagine anyone being comfortable with destroying the world.

"You betrayed the King of the Netherworld and allied with the Crimson Dragon, sealing the Earthbound Immortals and the King of the Netherworld away, but not before they left a curse on you. Every time the war would begin anew, you would be reborn to fulfill your end of the deal with the King of the Netherworld. As long as you exist in this world, so will the Earthbound Immortals," Roman explained.

"No, that can't be true," Alex said in disbelief, not being able to believe this was his fault. "Alex, don't listen to him! Even if what he says is true, you're not responsible for this. You're trying to save the world. You're a good person Alex, and I'm proud to call you my friend," Crow shouted.

"He's right Alex. We all care about you, and no matter what, we'll always be here for you," Luna added, Trudge, Yusei, and Leo nodding in agreement. "How very touching. Let's see if you feel the same way once Alex becomes a Dark Signer and ushers in a new age of darkness. Now Uru, attack directly!" Roman shouted.

"I activate the effect of Transaction Rollback in my graveyard! By banishing it and paying half my life points, I can use the effect of a normal trap in my graveyard, like my Hallowed Life Barrier," Alex explained.

"You're a stubborn one I'll admit. I set a card face-down and end my turn," Roman declared. Alex raised his hand to draw his card, but he hesitated. "This might be my last chance to turn this duel around. If I want to win, I have to draw the right card. You guys have never let me down when I needed you before, and I know you're not about to start on me now," he thought to himself as he took a deep breath before placing two fingers on his deck.

Alex drew his card before he turned it over and saw it was exactly what he needed. "Thank you," he said to his deck before he pulled another card from his hand. "I play the Dark Fusion spell card to merge Evil HERO Stone Guardian and Evil HERO Voltage in order to summon my Evil HERO Lightning Golem!" he shouted.

"And as I'm sure you remember from our last duel, due to his special ability, I can destroy one monster on the field every turn. Go Lightning Golem, destroy Uru!" Alex shouted as his monster hurled a sphere of black electricity at Uru, destroying it. "Alright! With Uru gone, Roman's trap card can't stop Alex from attacking!" Leo exclaimed.

"Maybe Roar of the Earthbound can't, but Gravity Bind can! With this trap in play, level 4 and higher monsters can't attack!" Roman explained. "He was so close," Crow commented. "I can't believe it, I finally got rid of Uru only for another problem to pop up. And I don't have anything in my hand that can destroy his Gravity Bind," Alex thought as he looked at his hand before his eyes landed on a certain card.

"Wait, if I play this, then I can win, but that would mean…" he contemplated, unsure if it was worth the risk. "What? Out of options?" Roman asked. "I guess I have no choice. I activate the spell Monster Reborn!" Alex shouted. "And just what do you hope to gain from that? None of the monsters in your graveyard can help you right now," Roman pointed out.

"Maybe the monsters in my graveyard can't help me, but the monsters in your graveyard are a different story," Alex responded. Leo asked what Alex was talking about, and Crow explained that Monster Reborn lets you summon a monster from either player's graveyard.

"But the only monsters in Roman's graveyard are his Dark Spiders and-" Luna began to say before she realized what Alex was planning. "I summon Earthbound Immortal Uru from your graveyard!" Alex shouted as Roman's monster appeared on his field. "What?!" Roman exclaimed in shock.

"Like you said, Uru isn't affected by its opponent's spells and traps while there's a field spell, meaning Gravity Bind won't affect him. Now Uru, attack Roman directly!" Alex shouted as Uru launched his attack on Roman, bringing him to his knees.

"You may have defeated me, but unless you seal the other two control units, you will still lose this war," Roman said as he faded away, but after he disappeared, purple mist began to seep out of the ground under Alex, causing him to clutch the sides of his head in pain.

"You will uphold your end of the deal," a voice said inside his mind. Luna called out for Alex and began to move towards him, but he shouted at her to stay back. "No! I won't help you destroy the world," Alex argued with the voice before he cried out and unleashed a wave of darkness, sweeping the mist away before he collapsed.

Everyone ran down to him, Yusei grabbing Alex's shoulders and shaking him. "Alex! Come on, you've gotta get a grip!" he shouted. "Come on kid, you're gonna pull through," Trudge assured. As Alex's eyes began to shut, his friend's voices seemed to grow more and more quiet until he passed out.
