Old Friends
A huge royal blue energy had occurred and caused some rumbling. It was the release of Zetsumajin, one of the techniques of Lelouch's Zanpakuto, Teimashu. Afterwards, Lelouch had both of his arms back to his right. Lelouch looked and spotted Rolo who was on the ground. Lelouch stood up straight and held his Zanpakuto in his right hand and walked towards Rolo. He stopped and looked at the state that Rolo was in due to what he had done to him. Rolo had been bifurcated in half and his golden Hollow mask had shattered leaving only the top right piece still remaining. Rolo was bleeding from his severed torso and from his mouth as he eyes widened and it was disbelief for him of the state he was in.
"I lost," Rolo spoke softly, "I can't believe that I actually lost," Rolo slowly looked at Lelouch, "Well I'll be damned, you actually beat me."
"This is the end for you Rolo," Lelouch said, "You're not surviving this."
"Yes, it seems that's the case," Rolo said, "ah, so frustrating that I would lose like this."
Lelouch slowly got closer to Rolo.
"I see it now," Rolo said, "Lelouch, I really hate you. I absolutely despise you."
"Yeah," Lelouch responded with a glare.
"That glare you're giving me," Rolo said, "yeah, you feel same way about me. Hmph, if I had known how things were going to turn out, I never would have bothered to oust the Black Knights for what they did. I went out of my way to do that just to avenge you and this is what I get in return. No, I think it's more of I never should have allowed myself to be taken in of your words back at Ashford Academy. If nothing else, you have quite the silver tongue. I should have killed you the second you regained your memories but I didn't and now this is the result of my hesitation. Used by the Geass Order, used by you. I've been a tool for most of my life… but I will admit this for myself. It wasn't all bad being your brother."
"…Same way for me," Lelouch said.
Rolo was a bit surprised when Lelouch said it.
"Are you serious?" Rolo asked.
"I am," Lelouch said, "you can find it hard to believe but part of me did enjoy having you as my little brother."
"…I see," Rolo said, "I know that the reason for this is not only that I killed Shirley believing that I was justified and trying to help you but also the fact that I made it known to you that I tried to kill Nunnally and I openly mocked and sneered her. If I had made different choices, things would have different between us."
"Yeah," Lelouch said.
"Oh well, this is the end for me," Rolo said as he was losing his life, "I will say this Lelouch. If you think you have seen the last of Mr. Amatsuki, you are sadly mistaken. You and the others came out of the Wandering Spirit World, the same realm that he got sucked in as well. It will be only be a matter of time before he gets out and then he will continue with his plans and let me tell you this, he's a lot stronger than you can imagine. In fact, he'll be a lot stronger than he was before back at that place, the Soul Society's capital."
"I see," Lelouch said, "we'll keep that in mind."
"I could say good luck to you," Rolo said, "but that would be a lie. I actually hope you fail in everything you do and brought in despair."
"I figured as much but unfortunately for you Rolo, that will not happen," Lelouch replied, "I will no longer be filled with despair."
"I guess I'll see you in my journey to Hell," Rolo said, "and I will be waiting for you there."
Rolo coughed up more blood and his life faded away. With that Rolo had died from the fatal wounds he suffered and closed his eyes. Lelouch just stood and closed his eyes. Afterwards, he opened his eyes and resealed his Zanpakuto and had his sheath in hand and sheathed his sword.
"It's over," Lelouch said with a frown and he sighed a bit and had a relaxed expression, "How long do you intend to just stand there? Why don't you show yourself? I know you're there."
"Oh, so you did notice," A familiar male voice said.
Someone appeared and it was Shinji. Lelouch turned around and saw the former 5th Division Captain.
"It really is you Shinji," Lelouch said.
Shinji grinned as he looked at Lelouch.
"Yeah, it's been a long time Lelouch," Shinji said, "it's been, what, eighty years?"
Lelouch looked at Shinji and smiled, "Yeah, it's been eight decades. I'm happy to see you again Shinji."
"…Yeah, same here actually," Shinji replied, "still though…"
"Hmm?" Lelouch responded.
Shinji walked past Lelouch and looked at the dead Rolo.
"Shinji?" Lelouch said as he turned.
"Was it necessary?" Shinji asked.
"Hmm, what do you mean?" Lelouch asked.
"This guy here," Shinji said, "Did you really have to kill him?"
"You mean Rolo," Lelouch said and had a serious expression, "yeah, it was necessary. If I didn't, he would have killed me and I wasn't going to let that happen… which is also why I had to prevent you from interfering."
"So it was intentional and did really did noticed me earlier," Shinji said as he turned to Lelouch, "I remember those weird shadowy looking things."
Flashback
Shinji was rushing with the intent to interfere and get in between Lelouch and Rolo and suddenly Shinji saw something and had to stop. What Shinji saw and was surprised to see was three all-black armored knights standing in Shinji's way.
Flashback End
"That was your Kuro no Kishi," Shinji said, "I remember it once before. I guess I'm not as sneaky I believed I was if you had already caught on to me."
"I was well aware that you were there Shinji," Lelouch said, "and I figured that you were coming to actually interfere. I suspected that you actually intended to recruit Rolo into your group and all because Rolo was Hollowfied."
"Hmm, and what makes you think that was my intention?" Shinji asked as he was looking at Rolo's dead body again, "Maybe I came to help you out old friend."
"That would be nice," Lelouch said, "but I know the truth. Kisuke told me what you and the others have been up to since you all came here in the Human World."
"Kisuke," Shinji said and then he sighed, "I should have known. Of course he would know and I suppose that I shouldn't be shocked that he actually told you."
"Like I said Shinji, I know the truth," Lelouch said, "just like I know what really happened eighty years ago. Mainly that it was Sosuke who was the real culprit of the Vanishing Souls, specifically doing Hollowfication experiments."
"So Kisuke told you about that as well," Shinji replied.
"Actually Kajiro told me but I had already figured that Kisuke was being framed for what was done to you and the others," Lelouch said.
"Kajiro?" Shinji replied and turned to Lelouch again, "Do you mean Kajiro Sumeragi?"
"The very same," Lelouch said and then he had a sad expression, "and because of the decision that Central 46 made regardless of how it happened, it has led you all to have to leave the Soul Society with Kisuke and Tessai's help."
"So you and the others know the truth, right?" Shinji replied.
"Yeah, no doubt you guys have bitterness because of what happened," Lelouch said, "With all that had happened I actually met up with the members of Central 46."
"Did you now?" Shinji asked.
"Yes, I did," Lelouch said.
Flashback: 80 Years Back, Seireitei, Soul Society
Lelouch was in the compound of Central 46 and came to talk about the aftermath of the incident that had occurred and the fates of Kisuke, Tessai, and the eight people including Shinji that the members had decided.
"Now then 10th Division Captain Lelouch Kenjima," One of the Central 46 members spoke, "what is it that you wanted to speak to us about?"
Lelouch just looked on and cleared his throat.
"I'm here to speak to you about Kisuke Urahara, Tessai Tsukabishi, and the eight officers who were subjugated to Hollowfication," Lelouch said.
"Oh really?" Another member of Central 46 responded, "Why?"
"Why?" Lelouch replied with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes why?" The Central 46 member responded, "Surely you already heard."
"Yes but I want to know why," Lelouch said, "I want to understand what's going on. Naoto and I watched as we saw Kisuke being escorted to stand before all of you."
"Oh is that so?" One of the members replied, "Captain Kenjima, what exactly did Kisuke Urahara tell you and Lieutenant Kozuki?"
"Oh well," Lelouch responded, "he didn't really tell us anything. He didn't have a chance to say anything when we were suddenly surrounded and Kisuke Urahara was ordered to stand before you all."
"Oh right," Another Central 46 member said, "fair enough. In that case Captain Kenjima, listen well…"
The members of Central 46 explained of the inquiry of Kisuke and Tessai and what they have they have condemned them for and they also explained what they had decided to do with the eight Hollowfication victims. Lelouch was wide eyed as he was shocked as he couldn't believe what he was told.
"You've got to be kidding me," Lelouch responded, "no, there's no way."
"What was that?" One of the Central 46 members asked.
"I said there's no way," Lelouch replied back, "Kisuke Urahara would never conduct Hollowfication. He didn't do it."
"You dare doubt us?" One of the members replied.
"I know that he didn't do it," Lelouch replied back, "he didn't commit this heinous act."
"You can't possibly know that," A Central 46 member replied, "how could you know? You weren't there."
"That's true I wasn't but I know Kisuke Urahara and I know that he wouldn't commit such a deplorable act," Lelouch argued, "also from what I understand, you didn't even let Kisuke explained anything. You just got the idea that Kisuke was already guilty, not bothering hearing his side of the story, not letting him explain anything and you won't even divulge on who told you or how you even came to that conclusion."
"We have evidence that Kisuke Urahara conducted Hollowfication experiments," Another member spoke, "there were additional evidence of his crime in the 12th Division Barracks."
"What is the evidence you're talking about?" Lelouch asked, "Where are they?"
"We have no need to tell you," Another member said.
Lelouch frowned, "That's just…." Lelouch shook his head, "well what about the eight people that were subjugated in Hollowfication? Why order their execution?"
"They had obtained Hollow powers," Another member said, "You shouldn't even need to ask."
"I know that but we all know that it was forced on them," Lelouch said, "surely you can't think that it's a good idea to have them killed for something that they obviously had no desire in having in the first place."
"It doesn't matter," One of the members rebuked, "it doesn't matter how they obtained them. The fact is that they had and with that we had only one choice of action. If you or those eight want to blame someone, blame Kisuke Urahara."
"Those eight people were found in the 12th Division Barracks," Another member said, "it obvious that Kisuke Urahara conduct the experiments in Fugai after midnight last night and then he tried to continue in the 12th Division Barracks which led to Tessai Tsukabishi to use time stop and teleportation, techniques that are strictly forbidden and he used them to aid Urahara in his heinous research."
"Do you know that for sure?" Lelouch asked, "You never gave Kisuke the chance to explain himself and from what I'm hearing, you really don't have any real strong evidence that Kisuke committed this act. As for Tessai Tsukabishi using those techniques, there has to be a reasonable explanation for what he did. There could be a possibility that with the condition that the eight were in, he must have used the techniques so that they could be treated in which led them being in the 12th Division Barracks. I believe what Kisuke was trying to do was actually help them and undo the Hollowfication process and that's why they were there. That must be this evidence that you speak of."
"You know nothing Captain Kenjima!" One of the Central 46 members replied harshly, "All you have presented is speculation and you have no proof."
Lelouch glared at Central 46 members.
"And how is that any different with what you all are doing?" Lelouch argued back, "It's really all speculation with what you're saying as well and yet you want to punish Kisuke and Tessai by refusing to hear their side and just decide to execute Shinji, Hiyori, and the others for something that was forced on them!"
"That's enough out of you 10th Division Captain!" One of the older members said, "You don't have the right to question our authority and we will not allow you to do so. If you insist on doing so, you will be punished for it! Do I make myself clear?!"
Lelouch flinched and clenched his teeth.
"I asked you a question and you will answer!" The older member said losing patience, "Do I make myself clear to you Captain Lelouch Kenjima?"
"Yeah, I hear you," Lelouch responded.
"10th Division Captain," Another Central 46 member interjected, "we have answered your questions and with that and since there seems to be nothing else, this discussion is over."
Lelouch was silent and he was angry and he looked at all the members of Central 46 with disdain and resentment.
Flashback End
"Hmm, so that's how it went down," Shinji said.
"Yeah and since then, I haven't really had much respect for Central 46," Lelouch said bitterly.
Shinji just looked at Lelouch and shrugged.
"Yeah, sure," Shinji said with a neutral tone.
"But now I'm glad you're here," Lelouch said, "I have a proposal for you Shinji."
"Oh and what would that be?" Shinji asked.
"How about we work together?" Lelouch asked, "Not just you but the others. We know that Sosuke was behind the incident and no one back in the Soul Society really knows because of all the things that Sosuke set up. I propose that we work together and we can take down Sosuke and his followers together. Together, there's nothing we can't do."
"That's quite the offer Lelouch," Shinji said, "I appreciate the offer but I'm going to take a pass on that."
"…I see," Lelouch said, "may I ask why?"
"We preferred to work on our own and doing things our way," Shinji said, "we've done fine on our own for eighty years and we will continue to be fine on our own. Not only that but sorry Lelouch but if anyone is going to take down Sosuke it's going to be us."
"Shinji…" Lelouch said.
"Well I guess that's it," Shinji said, "since it's all, I'll be heading back," Shinji turned around having his back on Lelouch, "Lelouch, it is good to see you again. I really mean it."
Lelouch looked at Shinji and then he smiled, "Yeah, it's good to see you again Shinji. I'm glad to see you well. I was worried. Days didn't go by when I didn't think about you guys. I was worried how you were fairing. Euphie and the others, they were the same way."
"I see," Shinji said and then he smiled, "then do me a favor and give them my regards."
"I will," Lelouch said, "thank you Shinji."
"No, I should thank you," Shinji said, "I suppose that even if we are working separately and doing our own thing, I guess it wouldn't hurt to communicate with each other from time to time. I don't know how the others with me will feel but at least I'm willing to do so."
Lelouch smiled at that and nodded.
"Yeah, I think I would like that Shinji," Lelouch said happily.
Shinji turned his head and looking at Lelouch with his signature grin.
"All right then," Shinji said, "well then take care."
Shinji then turned and left using Shunpo. After that Lelouch looked and then he turned to the dead Rolo and had a sour expression. He then had his head down and thought about the one year time span that Lelouch had spent with Rolo who acted as his brother even though he was involved in monitoring him for the Office of Secret Intelligence when his father Charles altered his memories using his own Geass.
"If things had gone differently, I wonder even though he died," Lelouch said, "maybe he would have ended up in the Soul Society like the rest of us. Maybe he would have followed up and be a Shinigami as well."
Lelouch imagined what Rolo would have been if he had become a Shinigami as well. Lelouch felt it was a nice thought but he shook his head.
"That was impossible long ago," Lelouch said, "even if…"
Lelouch sighed and stared at the lifeless Rolo once more. Meanwhile, Lisa was still talking with Naoto, Euphie, Shirley, and Kallen.
"I'm really surprised," Lisa said, "I never thought that I would see you all again," Lisa looked directly at Naoto, "especially you Naoto."
"Yeah, the same with you Lisa," Naoto said being cheerful, "thank goodness though. I'm glad that you're alright."
Lisa was silent and thought about the time back in the Soul Society where she served as the Lieutenant of the 8th Division.
"Lisa, may we ask you some things?" Shirley asked.
Lisa looked up and looked at Shirley who asked the question and the looked at the other three.
"Well it depends," Lisa said, "if you want then go ahead but keep in mind, I'm not going answer every question if I don't want to and you can't force me to either."
"Oh perish the thought Lisa," Euphie said waving off the notion.
On the other side, someone was walking and looking around and it was Hiyori and she saw Lisa and she was with four other people and was shocked as she recognized the people that Lisa was talking to.
"What the hell?" Hiyori said shocked, "No way, it can't be…"
Hiyori rushed over to where Lisa was and called her name. Naoto, Kallen, Euphie, and Shirley were surprised and they recognized Hiyori's voice and they looked along with Lisa.
"Oh Hiyori, there you are," Lisa said, "You kept me waiting."
"Never mind that for a moment," Hiyori said, "but first," Hiyori looked at the four Lisa was talking to and got angry, "What the hell are they doing here?"
The four looked at each other and then back to Hiyori who seemed to be not happy to see any of the four.
"Hi Hiyori, it's been a long time," Euphie said and then nodded, "I'm glad to see you well."
"Spare me Euphie," Hiyori responded while giving a glare, "What the hell are you four doing here? Did you get sent by the Soul Society? Did they actually manage to find us?"
"No we did not," A familiar male voice answered.
Hiyori was surprised and she quickly turned and saw that it was Lelouch and was shocked.
"You," Hiyori spoke.
Lisa was surprised, "Lelouch, it's you."
"I'm happy to see you again Lisa," Lelouch said smiling at Lisa and then he turned to face Hiyori, "Hello Hiyori. You know it's quite a day. Just earlier, I met up with Shinji."
"Wait, Shinji?" Naoto replied surprised.
Hiyori didn't know what was going on but she did not like it one bit.
Seireitei, Soul Society
At the 10th Division Barracks, Hideyasu was resting on the roof of the barracks and looking at the sky feeling relaxed as he yawned and stretched arms.
"Captain!" A female voice called out.
Hideyasu was surprised and quickly sat up and looked. What he saw was Rangiku who was walking around looking and calling for the 10th Division Captain. Rangiku was looking around and was frustrated and annoyed. The other division members looked and saw Rangiku calling for the captain.
"It's Rangiku again," Emi said.
"Oh, is Captain Shiba skipping out again?" Ohana asked feeling annoyed.
Takumi and Saito looked on and sighed.
"It happens every time," Hideyasu said as he jumped down from the roof and landed on his feet.
Rangiku suddenly turned and stared at a direction and turned to one of the female division members asking her to let have the tray she was holding. The female division member obliged and then Rangiku used it and threw it at a tree. The tray hit the mark as there was a yelp and someone fell on the ground and it was Isshin who was holding a tray.
"Ah she got him," Emi said.
"Nice shot," Saito said pushing his glasses and was impressed.
"Good, perfect hit," Rangiku said pleased with herself.
"Ha, too bad for you," Isshin said, "I stopped it before it actually hit me."
Rangiku responded by kicking the tray which hit Isshin in the face. Isshin screamed complaining that his nose broke in which Rangiku had no sympathy.
"Come on, let's get back," Rangiku said, "I'll force you to work if I have to."
Isshin just sighed in response and stood up and gave the tray back to female division member. Hideyasu, Emi, Ohana, Saito, and Takumi looked on and sighed as they watched Isshin and Rangiku went inside while they were talking with Isshin sort of mocking Rangiku and Rangiku getting annoyed with the captain.
"Ah will you shut up already!" Rangiku said angrily and swung at him.
"Rangiku!" Isshin yelled as he stopped Rangiku's arm swing.
"Huh, uh y-yes?" Rangiku replied surprised.
"Because you spent all the time chasing me, your boobs are all shiny," Isshin said with a serious tone and expression, "Nice."
Rangiku got irritated again and again struck him in the face in response. Hideyasu, Takumi, Saito, Emi, and Ohana heard and saw what happened and the five of them face palmed and shook their head.
"How embarrassing," Takumi said.
"Uh, why does Captain Shiba have to be this embarrassing?" Ohana said.
In the office, Rangiku and Isshin entered and there was someone waiting for them it was Toshiro.
"You're late," Toshiro said as he held up the stacks of papers, "I finished up these papers."
Isshin was surprised and impressed as he was happy in what he saw. Isshin rushed towards Toshiro and raised and held him up in the air.
"You're amazing Toshiro," Isshin said happily, "Yep, you're definitely worthy of being the next captain."
"Hey wait," Rangiku said as she was a bit annoyed again, "Considering my rank, I should be the next captain."
Isshin looked at Rangiku as he couldn't believe that she actually said that.
"Are you kidding me?" Isshin said in response, "If someone like you were to become captain, this division would fall apart."
"That's true and not only that, my Bankai training is going real well," Toshiro commented, "So I'm sure it will be fine. Of course Hideyasu, Emi, Takumi, Saito, and even Ohana would do just fine as well to be honest."
"Yeah, that's true," Isshin said proudly as he put Toshiro down, "the 10th Division is in good hands with you six."
"Hey, that's not fair," Rangiku complained, "I'm working just as hard as the rest of you."
Rangiku went and pulled on Toshiro's cheeks.
"Hey, don't pester him too much," Isshin said as he went to his cabinet and noticed something off, "Huh? Hey, did you see my Manju?"
"Captain, I have something to report," Toshiro said and he pulled out a report, "it's this…"
"Wait, let's talk about my Manju first," Isshin said getting upset, "I left it there to snack on it later. Where is it?"
"How annoying, who cares about some Manju," Toshiro responded, "It was good by the way."
"So you ate it," Isshin said annoyed, "You ate it and trying to act like it's not important!"
"Anyway Captain, do you remember the report from two months ago?" Toshiro asked, "Naruki City which it is average sized. Two months ago, the Shinigami charged there had died accidently."
"Oh yeah, I remember," Isshin said, "They're still investigating the cause."
"Yes and I received the report from last month," Toshiro said, "the cause is still unknown and two more people died."
Isshin's mood completely changed and in an instant, he made a decision and he was quickly started leaving the barracks taking his Zanpakuto which surprised Rangiku and Toshiro.
"Wait Captain Shiba, where are you going?" Rangiku called out.
"To investigate," Isshin answered, "I'll leave the rest to you."
"Huh? Wait!" Rangiku responded, "Now and alone?"
"Yeah!" Isshin responded turning to Rangiku in a cheerful manner, "I'll be back in about two days. So do my work for tomorrow. Oh and if you want, you can get Hideyasu to help."
"What are you saying?" Rangiku responded, "You have to report to the Captain-Commander!"
"Bye for now," Isshin said as he left using Shunpo.
Rangiku couldn't believe what was happening with what the 10th Division Captain was doing and went and got her Zanpakuto and was ready to chase after him.
"Toshiro, let's go chase after him," Rangiku suggested.
"No, we should let him be," Toshiro replied.
Rangiku flinched and turned to Toshiro.
"But…" Rangiku spoke.
"The Captain knows that this case is dangerous," Toshiro pointed out, "that's why he going alone."
"I know that," Rangiku said, "that's why—"
"That's why we must wait for him here," Toshiro interjected, "Do you understand? We need to wait. Besides, considering our current power, we would only get in the way."
Rangiku was taken aback in what Toshiro said. She didn't want to believe he was right in what he just said but she knew that it was the truth with the case what was happening in the Human World. Meanwhile Isshin was making his way to the Senkaimon and was headed for the Human World.
"Naruki City," Isshin said to himself in his head, "is it the strange power coming from a building… or it something else… the strange power he mentioned in the past."
Isshin was thinking about Lelouch. He remember what Lelouch had told him along with Gino and Anya back forty years ago about the mission he had in the Human World back when he was serving in the 6th Division.
"Guess I'll see and find out," Isshin said to himself, "Either way, it's bad news."
That's it for this chapter. Next chapter: Discussions of the three shrines to get back in other Human World and an incident with a created Hollow.
