Dolores POV

Back in his car. Back in the place where he kissed me. After one heck of a time with his dysfunctional family.

I felt so bubbly, so weirdly happy, so completely satisfied with how my day was going so far. This morning, I was stressing about a dumb exam and now, five hours later, I was sitting in the car of a boy I barely knew after meeting his super-powered family. I'd been taken our for coffee, teleported, and thrown straight into the family drama and I didn't know him from Adam a few hours ago.

But dang, it felt so good.

He drove around in the cold, his hands gripping the steering wheel once more, and I took the opportunity to admire them again.

'Sorry you had to listen to all of Klaus' crap. He's a handful.'

'Sorry? No! That was the most amusement I've gotten in weeks. Your family is amazing. So much better than mine. Mine's boring. Just me, and my completely ordinary parents. Middle class, grew up in the suburbs, never even had a dog.'

'Well, that life would be a lot easier.'

'Are you kidding? I'd kill to have powers. I'd kill to have grown up there. Heck, I'd kill to have that many siblings. I was so bored growing up.'

He pursed his lips lightly and shrugged a bit.

'I'm not sure. It causes some problems. Intensified life difficulties.'

'Such as?'

'Different stories, for a different time. You've witnessed enough family dysfunctionality for one day.'

He pulled the car over, stopping at a parking lot of a small park, next to a spot with several benches.

I raised my eyebrow at him.

'Don't worry. I'll get all the juicy details out of you eventually.'

'Oh, will you? That'll take some work. I'm not sure if you have the stamina.', he said to me, smirking.

'I run four miles every morning. I've got plenty of stamina.'

'Four miles, yeah, is that the best you can do?'

'I could go further if need be.'

'Could you though?'

'Easy.'

'Care to prove it?'

'You're on, kid.'

He shot out of the car, swinging the door open and taking off through the park. I hopped out as quickly as I could, chasing after him. The cold wind whipped against my face and made my nose run as we went further and further. I was behind him for a bit, but I was holding back. Using my full speed, I ran harder, passing him up, looking back at his face and seeing him shocked with surprise. He gritted his teeth, running harder, and I looked ahead, laughing and running as fast as I could. Right when I thought I was going to win out, he teleported across the entire park, stood there, and waved at me from a distance.

'That's cheating!', I called out, having to use the full force of my voice.

'It's adapting!', he said, sticking his hands in his pocket.

'Come back!', I yelled at him. He shook his head.

'C'mon, please!'

He disappeared. I looked around, not finding him anywhere.

'Five?'

In any direction I looked, he just wasn't there.

I huffed. 'Where'd you go, stupid?'

I felt a tap on my back.

'I'm right here, stupid.', he whispered, and then pulled me into a kiss. The air around us was frigid, but his face was warm. The longer we stood there, the warmer mine got. I was blushing. He let me go, smirking as he always did. I tried to push him, punishment for disappearing from me, but I missed terribly, losing my balance and tumbling onto my back in the snow.

'Awe. Little klutz.', he said, laying down in the snow next to me. 'I like that shade of red on you.'

I touched my cheeks. They were burning hot to the touch. Likely red as a fire hydrant.

He touched my cheek too, dripping a melting snow flake across it.

'You're going to cause global warming with all that heat coming off you.'

'And you're going to melt the last of the glaciers with those brilliant eyes.'

'Goodness, you little flirt.'

'You started it, mister 'come get a cup of coffee with me, you won't regret it.'

'Maybe I did.'

My hair was getting wet from laying in the snow, but I didn't care. All I could focus on was those eyes. I studied them.

'Do you have a thing for eyes or something?'

'I've got a thing for yours.'

And this time, I kissed him. Our faces laid down in the snow, getting cold and wet, but neither of us acknowledged it.

'I like you more than I ought to.', he whispered.

'And I trust you more than it's smart to.'

'You'll find I'm very trustworthy.'

'I hope to.'

He reached out and touched my face. His fingers were cold to the touch, but it felt like fire.

'How many secrets do those eyes hold?', I asked, reaching out and flicking a strand of hair out of his eyes.

'More than anyone knows.'

'Just don't break my heart, number boy.'

'I don't plan on it.'
