Ginny spent the rest of the night sitting in the arm chair by the fire in the common room, in the hopes of spotting Sirius and James. But by midnight Ginny had completed all her homework for the week, and was struggling to keep her eyes open. Feeling defeated she slowly climbed the stairs to her dorm and into the comfort of her bed.
"Ginevra," Lily whispered, once Ginny was curled in her bed.
Ginny jumped at Lily's tiny voice, she didn't know anyone was awake.
"Yea?" Ginny whispered back, trying to see Lily's face through the darkly lit room.
"Sirius loves you," Lily stated, surprising Ginny.
Ginny wasn't sure where Lily was going, of course she knew Sirius loved her, she loved him just as much.
"Sirius is in love with you, and if he's not what you want then you need to do something about it."
Ginny didn't respond, and she heard Lily roll over signaling that it was the end of their conversation. Ginny couldn't help but feel as if she had made a great mess of things. She knew Sirius's anger was from more than her missing Quidditch practice. It was from weeks of excuses for secret meetings with Regulus, and the friendships she had formed with Slytherin's. But Ginny was angry too, she was angry Sirius couldn't see that Ginny's friendships changed nothing about their relationship. She loved Sirius, and he didn't know, and never would know the sacrifices she had made for him.
The next morning the girls all headed to breakfast together, and Lily made no comment in regards to their conversation last night, and Ginny followed suit not bringing it up.
"I wish at least one of you were in Herbology with me,' Alice commented, as the three girls walked side by side through the halls.
"Why on earth would you wish that?" Lily asked, scrunching her noise up at the thought.
"There's only 3 girls in the class," Alice sighed.
"Aren't you top of the class anyways?" Ginny giggled.
'Doesn't matter, it'd be nice to have someone to talk to," Alice replied.
"When I took Herbology with you, you barely took your attention away from the teacher,' Lily waved off Alice's complaints.
"Well I'm not going to talk when the teacher is talking," Alice responded sounding shocked that Lily would suggest such a thing.
"Why on earth not?" Lily giggled. "You do it in all your other classes."
That's different, I don't like any of my other classes," Alice grinned, as she skipped her way through the Great Hall, and towards the Gryfindor table.
"Her cheery mood will end after Herbology," Lily whispered to Ginny.
"At least she has a class she enjoys," Ginny responded.
Ginny was still maintaining good grades, but she had yet to find a class she really enjoyed, she was slightly envious of Alice's excitement over Herbology.
"You're top of the class in defence against the dark arts," Lily responded sounding surprised.
"That's not because I enjoy it though," Ginny responded as she took a seat beside Alice and began loading eggs on her plate.
Ginny finished breakfast with her friends, and had yet to see Sirius or the other Maraunder's. It put a damper on her mood as she headed off to ancient rune's hoping that Remus- who hardly ever missed class would be there waiting at their regular table.
Ginny arrived to class just on time and made a beeline to the seat her and Remus usually occupied. Remus was already seated with parchment spread out in front of him and his head bent as he quickly jotted something down with his quill. As Ginny got closer she was surprised to see Narcissa seated beside him.
"You weren't at breakfast," Ginny commented as she dropped into the remaining empty seat.
Remus looked up giving her an apologetic smile, which was his way of staying neutral to her and Sirius's relationship quarrel.
Ginny sighed knowing that Remus would tell her what was going on with Sirius, but she didn't want to be the girl who gossiped with his friends.
"I was helping Remus finish his assignment," Narcissa commented, as if this was something that regularly happened.
"You both saw a lot of things I missed when I did mine," Remus added, putting down his quill and looking over his work.
"Ginevra and I work well together," Naricssa smiled over at Ginny.
"She's being modest," Ginny lowered her voice as their professor walked in. "It was all Narcissa all I really did was copy off her."
"Either way, I'm much more confident that I'll have a better mark now," Remus smiled.
Once class got started the three of them barely had anytime to speak. They spent the remainder of class copying off the board and trying to be invisible as to not get called on for questions they did not know the answers to. When class was finished they left with another paper, and a pile of homework.
"Honestly, I don't know how they expect us to complete all this, they do realize we have other classes right?" Ginny sighed.
"They usually like to pile on homework before the holidays," Narcissa responded laughing as they packed up their thinks.
"Slughorn doesn't usually!" Remus grinned excitedly.
"We don't have potions until last period, so I guess that's something to look forward to," Ginny responded.
"I'll see you guys later," Narcissa said as she slung her bag over her shoulder and headed the opposite way when they reached the hall.
"That was unexpected," Ginny whispered to Remus once Narcissa was out of earshot.
"The homework? I think that they realize most people drop ancient runes-"
"No I meant Narcissa sitting with us," Ginny responded, still whispering.
"Oh she told me she felt bad for stealing my study partner and offered to share what you guys had translated," Remus shrugged as if it was no big deal.
When Ginny walked into History of Magic she was surprised to see that Sirius was not only already sitting in their seat but he had his books out in front of him- a book Ginny knew he had yet to open for the entire year.
"Sirius-" Ginny started as soon as she had rushed to her seat.
"I'm sorry I took off yesterday," Sirius said cutting her off. "There's nothing wrong with you studying with Narcissa." He said, grinning as he ran his hand through his curls.
"I didn't mean to-"
"Besides, she was one of my favorite cousins- or at least from what I can remember growing up. I was just worried when you didn't show up to meet me on the pitch and when you didn't come to practice at all I thought that maybe-" Sirius stopped talking as Professor Binns floated into class, even though most of the class continued their conversations. "I just thought the worst, you've putting yourself in the middle of dangerous things, and I'm not always there to protect you.' Sirius finished reaching under the table to entwine his hand with hers.
"I should have remembered," Ginny responded in way of apology.
"Let's forget it even happened," Sirius smiled, reaching into his bag and pulling out two apples, one of which he threw over to James who excitedly took a bite earning him a dirty look from Lily.
