1987 - June 1st - Summer
David
He woke with a start just as the last tendrils of daylight had diminished from the sky. He knew that if he had been at the mouth of the cave that the sky would be ablaze with oranges, pinks, and purples. It would be a beautiful sight. That was the closest to the dawns that he missed so much that he could get. But more upsetting to him was the reason he had woken so quickly. Memories were streaming through his mind. Memories that were yet were not his own. He could hear his own voice telling him who was who, what was what, and that Josie was his. He had seen it all. The death of his brothers and Max. Everything up until the day that the girl, Becks did her spell. He had no reason to believe it but this gnawing feeling in his gut and in his very bones told him to believe it. And to top it all off; he woke with Max blocked from his mind. For the first time in two hundred years, he was finally free of Max. His mind was finally his own.
A loud sigh broke from his lips. The blessed silence. A faint whooping sound caused him to sigh heavily. His brothers were awake, The younger of the boys were very wild and loved to make lots of noise. Paul and Marko had not been vampires too long. Marko had been one since the 70's and Paul since the 60's. While he had been since the 1700's and Dwayne since the 1800's. Max had been a vampire since the late 1600's. He had changed them all. Max was very meticulous in whom he bestowed the vampire gift to. But David knew there were times he regretted changing them. They were not a very obedient bunch. And now that he didn't have Max in his head, he would be even more disobedient.
"David." Dwayne greeted when he came from the tunnel.
David nodded and watched the two youngers of the group practically tumble out of the tunnel. A yawn was heard, and they all turned to see Star rise from her alcove and young Laddie popped up from his hidden cove. David resisted the urge to roll his eyes at Star. He did not hate the girl; in fact, he had been quite infatuated with her but then Max changed her. He had changed her without her knowledge and had left David to be the bad guy in her eyes. The same soft brown eyes that had looked at him once with adoration was now almost always filled with fear and hate. And of course, Max had left David to be the one that Star would hate. He had made it perfectly clear that David or any of the other boys could never tell her that he had changed her. So now, like every time they woke up, Star was glaring at him with seething hate while she was ushering Laddie to the entrance. But now that Max was not in his head again, he could finally tell her.
"Star." he said, "Come sit, please."
Star froze in her footsteps to the entrance. She looked like a literal deer in headlights. Her brown eyes were wide, and she was almost shaking. She was afraid of him, and he knew it. It was all Max's doing. She would put on a brave face in public but here in the cave she showed how she really felt. Slowly she walked over to him as he sat in the wheelchair, and he gestured for her to sit on the old, tattered couch. She did and was ramrod stiff.
"Star," he started, the memories and message told him to start with her, "I did not change you. Max did."
"David!" Dwayne hissed.
"Max, is not in my head any longer. She has a right to know." David seethed.
"Max?" she voiced, almost squeaked.
"He changed all of us." David said.
"We can tell her?" Paul asked incredulously.
"Yeah." David said to him.
"Thank God." Marko said and looked at her, "Max changed me in '71. I had just been recruited for the Vietnam War. It was the night before I had to report for duty. He snatched me from the movie I had taken my girlfriend to. It was a midnight showing and killed her and changed me. I have never found out what ever happened to my family."
"He got me at Woodstock, you know the 60's." Paul told her. "I had no family but my twin sister. Max changed me and while I was in the throes of the change, he slit my sisters throat to make me feed on her. I did and I killed her. She was the last tie I had to humanity. I just wanted to be a happy hippy, not a bloodthirsty vampire. Hell, I was a vegetarian before he changed me."
"Star." Laddie's small voice almost startled her.
"Yes, Laddie?" she asked him as he sat next to her.
"Max, from the video store, he gave me the bottle to drink. He said I was to be here to make you behave." Laddie told her.
Star's doe eyes welled with tears. The tears spilled quickly over and on to her cheeks. Her chin trembled with emotion. The small child would never lie to her. So now in her troubled mind, all that the boys were telling her was terribly true. What else had Max done? He had given her a job when she had first landed in Santa Carla. He had listened to her troubles and had been an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. He had been the father she had never had. The father figure she had needed.
"He did pretty much the same to David and me." Dwayne said, he did not talk much.
"My God." Star whispered, "He did this to me! I have hated you for absolutely no reason. I am so sorry, David."
"It's ok. I would have hated me if I was you as well." he told her.
"Well Lost Girl, do you forgive us?" Paul asked hopefully.
"Yeah. I do." Star said with a sniffle.
Let's hit the boardwalk then." David said and Laddie jumped up ready to go.
"Come on lil sis." Marko said as he extended his hand to Star, and she smiled.
The group left the cave and headed to the Santa Carla boardwalk. They parked the bikes and saw right away that Max was looking paranoid from his window of his business. The usually immaculately dressed man looked like he was at the beginning of a mental episode. Even Maria looked uncomfortable to be in there with him. When they crossed in front of the store David shot him a smug look and Star glared at him with hate filled eyes. Her look startled him. Then Max turned angry eyes to David who just rolled his eyes. David could feel the light prod of someone trying to get in his head. He knew that it was Max. The surprise that entered his glasses covered eyes almost made David laugh. Max now knew that he had no control over David any longer. Now the surprise started to turn to panic. That made David grin viciously. Poor Maria saw it all and she was afraid. Maria picked up her bag and told Max that she was going for the night and all he could do was nod. She almost ran from the establishment. The Lost Boys then ignored Max and headed towards the concessions to get Laddie and Star some food.
Star and Laddie ordered what they wanted, and Dwayne paid for their fare. After they were seated to eat the boys mosied around. They were hungry but David was looking for the mystery girl from the memories. Josie. He was looking for flaming locks of hair. Every red head that passed by him, he would scrutinize them. He decided to take a break from looking and leaned up against the railing of the fence of the boardwalk. He just people watched then. He would find her eventually.
"David, who are you looking for?" Marko asked him, concerned.
David did not answer his brother's question. He was staring straight ahead. There she was with two other girls, her cousin and her witch friend. Small, blue eyed, red headed, and staring right at him. Her blue eyes were alit happily, and her small body launched across the boardwalk. Her mouth opened and her voice came out.
"David!" she shouted.
He leaned up from the railing and caught her familiar body in his arms. This him had never held her once but the memories that had assaulted him when he woke had imprinted her into his mind.
"David." she said as she pulled from him.
"Josie." he said back to her.
"Becks, Nicole, it's David!" she shouted across the boardwalk, "He's here!"
The two girls jogged over to them. Becks looked at him cautiously at first and then smiled.
"I see everything transferred over well." Becks said to him.
"I believe so. I have lots of questions though." he said.
"I believe you would." Becks said and offered him her hand.
He hesitated before he accepted it. Before his eyes everything flashed. He watched everything that had happened from the future David. He learned about the Emerson's clearer. He saw what had happened with the Frogs, Marko, the rest of his brothers and then the future. Josie was everything. And the big conclusion was Max must be stopped. Everything that happened stemmed from Max. He had to stop everything from happening.
He stepped back when he released Becks's hand and looked over at Josie. She and Nicole looked confused. They were not exactly sure why they were here and mostly known that the spell worked, and that David was here too.
"Josie, Nicole, this is 1987 David. He's not the one we left in your bed at home, Josie." Becks said, "It's the same David, just different timeline. He knows all that has happened. I just showed him."
"Ummm, what?" Nicole said.
"Come here." Becks said and they came forward, "Ya'll can come over too."
Becks held Josie's hand and she held Nicole's and then they all joined hands just to get it over with. The Lost Boys were very confused by all this but did as she bid when David gestured for them to go over. They did and were assaulted by the memories. They all saw what happened. They died, violently. David lived and swore vengeance. They saw it all, their revival, Max's death, the Emerson's, Star and Laddie. They saw that they had left David and he had gone to Hawaii. They had seen his sort of apology to Sam. The vow he had made to fix it all. Everything up until they disappeared leaving David to dwell in their home. Josie let go of Beck's hand and turned to David.
"Josie?" he asked.
"I am so pissed. I want to scream and throw things, but I can't. You haven't done anything. You haven't met my dad or uncle." Josie seethed.
"But at this juncture we can stop all of it from happening." Nicole interjected before someone got their feelings hurt.
"David?" came a voice.
Everyone turned to see Star and Laddie standing their looking bewildered at the new people. She carefully moved over to the boys. Star looked over at the new faces and saw the startled look on the dirty blonde girl's face.
"Mom?" the girl whispered.
