"I've waited so long for this day, Elijah. I'm truly, very sorry." Trevor was filled with a sense of adrenaline, fear, but also hope. At last, he had paid his debt and would be acquitted. He and Rose will finally start living, commence their search for happiness.
"Don't be too harsh, 'Lijah. Truly, 500 years on the run should be enough penance, right?" Sigrid offers lightly, her suggestion fell on deaf ears, as always.
"Oh no, your apology's not necessary." Elijah's tone was light as he walked calmly around the trembling man, imbibing his fear, relishing in it. In moments like these, he truly felt like the predator he really was.
"It's not nice to lie, Elskede." Sigrid mumbles, already fearing the direction this was going. She'd seen Kol and Niklaus play with their victims like this often enough. You make them feel like they will escape your revenge, give them a chance at forgiveness, before you take everything from them, including their lives. Even Rebekah, sweet, innocent Rebekah, seemed to have developed a mean bone over the years.
Sometimes it was easier for Sigrid that Rebekah and Kol were obstructed by the ghastly daggers. This way Sigrid could pretend that everything was still the way it used to be when they were all innocent.
"Yes, yes it is. You trusted me with Katerina and I failed you."
Elijah's expression remains stoic. The remorseful look in Trevor's eyes could almost be described as touching and would have worked if this wound of betrayal hadn't been festering for half a millennium. "Oh yes, you are the guilty one, and Rose aided you because she was loyal to you and that, I honor. Where was your loyalty?"
"Oh look, it's the pot calling the kettle black." Sigrid mutters. Elijah had built his reputation carefully, showing only what he wanted the world to see, but behind that carefully crafted mask was a certain layer of hypocrisy. He was loyal to his family and genuinely had their best interests in mind, but his judgment and morals were sometimes clouded by the voices of demons, sometimes even Niklaus's. Then his actions were based on a self-appointed responsibility, a burden that he bore upon himself. The results of these actions hadn't always been optimal.
Several times Sigrid had wondered if things would have turned out differently if Finn had shown more interest in the role of head of the family. Finn's sense of morals was sometimes even more severe than Elijah's, but there was a tenderness in him, a sense of empathy that Elijah had sometimes lacked.
Notwithstanding Elijah's sense of loyalty and need to help his family, he had failed to help his siblings with the loss of their humanity, and her. Especially Kol, who had lost his magic, had a hard time, especially as his grief remained unseen. Both Elijah and Niklaus believed it was better to box them up every now and then than to deal with their amplified emotions.
The pained cries of Kol and Rebekah ring in Sigrid's ears. She shakes her head and tries to focus on what was going on in front of her. This was not the time to bring up painful memories.
"I beg your forgiveness."
"Please look away, please look away." Sigrid's words come out like a prayer. Neither Rose nor the teenage girl should see what would come next. Rose would lose her only family member, and unless the doppelgänger had witnessed an execution before, which Sigrid doubted, the girl would surely be scarred by the ordeal.
"So granted." Elijah replies coolly.
Sigrid holds her breath, releasing it rather harshly when Elijah decapitates the vampire, this was to be expected.
Despite Elijah's magnanimity and aptitude for being merciful, he could also be treacherous and narrow-minded. Sigrid remembers well how Elijah had sulked when she had rejected him once. This had been an insignificant incident, she had preferred to go and play with Kol, Henrik, and Rebekah by the river than watch the catch of the latest hunt being slaughtered and skinned. It had been an obvious choice for a young girl, but Elijah had purposefully ignored her for two days afterward.
"You!" Rose shouts, preparing herself to shoot forward to avenge her companion. They had been so close to their freedom, she had almost tasted the salt of the sea's they would travel for their leisure together.
"You do love your loopholes." Sigrid mutters, looking down her dress in instinct. The fabric obviously wasn't stained or ruined by the blood. She gazes briefly at the decapitated form of the man on the floor, before looking back up and seeing the distraught expression of the doppelgänger. The girl might do well to see a therapist if she were to survive the whole curse-breaking situation.

"Tell me where the moonstone is." Elijah demands, compelling the teenager, not relenting his grip on her. He had put some witches on the job to locate the moonstone, but this hadn't paid off so far. Here he was possibly served the doppelgänger and the moonstone on a tray, today turned out to be an extremely productive day. The fact that his thirst for revenge had been appeased also helped.
"And we're back to manhandling women." Sigrid comments dryly as she walks towards the piece of jewelry that was so carelessly thrown onto the floor. Bending down, she realizes it is Esther's necklace, the one worn by Rebekah for as long as she could remember.
It was strange that the necklace had specifically ended up with the brunette, Sigrid narrows her eyes, Elijah should have recognized the accessory, perhaps the adrenaline had temporarily clouded his vision.
Never before had Sigrid wanted her hand to grasp the item so much. It probably still contained magic, and magic would perhaps be a key to getting out of her isolated prison. In addition, the necklace would be a nice gift for Rebekah. She frustratedly kicks at the necklace after several attempts of grabbing it.
Sigrid's body stiffens, she swore she saw the chain move a millimeter, but this could also be a trick of the light or an unexpected gust of wind. It was probably the latter, there was a draft in the old house.
Frightened by the possibility that something had changed, she turns quickly, focusing her eyes on Elijah. She didn't want to create false hopes in herself, the past had proved that nothing ever changed, she would be stuck here forever, unchanged.
"What is that?" Elijah's body tenses as he tries to zone in on any other indication of the intruders.
Sigrid didn't feel like waiting and walks through the nearest wall, over Trevor's body. She was just in time to see a blurry figure turn a corner. A vampire. They must be here to rescue the doppelgänger.
"So you do know about the supernatural world." Sigrid mutters, curious to see to what extent the doppelgänger's knowledge went.
Sigrid's face scrunches up as she comes face to face with the vampire after following him. He was handsome and seemed to be in his mid or late twenties. The determined look in his eyes could be described as admirable if she wasn't already picturing his gruesome death. The man would most likely get his heart ripped out, and that was only if Elijah was in a merciful mood.
She had grown to know that younger vampires had a certain carelessness to them, it made them arrogant. They believed themselves to be invincible until they either got staked or crossed paths with one of the Originals. This man should be wetting himself if he knew who he was dealing with, which makes Sigrid suspect the man had no clue about his opponent.

"Excuse me. To whom it may concern, you're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat me. You can't. Do you hear that?"
"Good to see that ego of yours is still intact." Sigrid giggles, enjoying Elijah's dramatics. She had taken a seat on the staircase, watching the drama unfold from the front row seat. "You're lucky that Kol isn't here, he would have loved to remind you of the time he beat you in that wrestling match. Alright, he might have cheated, but that was to be expected after your boastful comments."
The iron gives away easily under Elijah's hand as he fashions a stake out of the coat rack. While he preferred the more 'hands-on' way of executing hindrances such as these, he wasn't above going back to the basics. "I repeat, you cannot beat me. So I want the girl, I'm gonna count to three, or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?"
"I'll come with you, just please don't hurt my friends, they just wanted to help me out." Elena says as she steps into view, eyes focused on Elijah. The combination of fear and fatigue had her trembling on her legs and she hoped this plan would work. Elena recoils when Elijah speeds up to her, not close enough to strike her, but she knew she couldn't possibly out run him anyway.
"What game are you playing with me?" Elijah asks, eyes narrowed suspiciously at the girl, not believing her attempt at appeasement to be genuine. His assumptions are confirmed when the treacherous girl throws a grenade at him.
"Elijah!" Sigrid jumps up and runs towards Elijah despite not being able to aid him. This was the worst part of being dead. Seeing the people you love moving on hurt like hell, but being unable to help or comfort them was ten times worse. She felt a twinge of pain inside her when she heard Elijah's pained growl.
Elijah doesn't catch a break and is being tackled to the floor not much later. His irritation grows as well as his impatience, this was not how the transaction should have gone.
"No!" Sigrid cries as the cocky vampire from earlier speeds forward, staking Elijah to the door. Her body sags to the floor, much like Elijah, as she processes the mess of what had just happened.
Sigrid ignores the happy reunion between the doppelgänger and her friends, their carelessness towards Elijah's supposed death was incredibly rude in her opinion, but she knew not to expect any sign of remorse from them. Elijah was the bad guy in their eyes. Instead, she walks over to the door and her desiccated Original.
"Min kjære, please wake. I can not stand to see you like this." Sigrid whispers wistfully. Her hand floats near Elijah's greyed cheek. She remembers her melancholy upon seeing her Mikaelsons daggered by the Brotherhood of the five. Their greyed skin, covered in veins and their lifeless bodies made her heart ache. Admittedly, a small, selfish part of her had hoped they would now join her on this side while in their desiccated state, but they hadn't.
Sigrid remains standing near Elijah, hand still raised as she tries to drown out the optimistic sounds of the doppelgänger and her friends leaving.
A/N:
Hello dear reader,
I hope you have enjoyed this chapter, I wasn't supposed to update this book until next week, but one of my readers asked for an update for their birthday, so here you go, dear, I hope you have a great day 3.
I have decided to cover the first event (Elijah meeting Elena) in a bit more detail for you, the reader, to get a bit more of a feeling of Sigrid and Elijah.
I must say the inconsistency in Original strength pisses me off. In one episode they are almost indestructible, the next they can get taken down very easily or can barely stand up to a single vampire. *sigh.
The pet names used in this book will be a mix of Norwegian and Icelandic.
Elskede=beloved
Min kjære= My darling
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Agape will probably be updated tomorrow (finally).
Lots of love,
