Chapter 4: New Discoveries and New Companions

The next morning, the day was bright and clear after the rainy night and the forest critters were all getting up to greet the new day. Branch groaned and gently opened his eyes where he found himself surrounded by tall pine trees, soft moss covered rocks and a gentle river near him after a small waterfall. He still felt weak from being toss and turned by the water down the rapids last night. But before he could get up, his grandmother appeared right before his eyes, squeezing a wet rag that she dipped in the water.

"So, my angel, you've decided to join the living," Rosiepuff cheerfully said as she gently rubbed the rag on his head where he got hit by the rock. Branch didn't notice that his grandmother looked quite bigger than usual. "Ooh-hoo. That's quite a bump you've got there. That must have been one heck of a ride down those rapids, huh? Luckily for you, you didn't suffer any major injuries, so you'll pull through," she said before going back to the river to wash the rag.

"Grandma?" Branch whispered before he rose up and rubbed his head where it hurts, not noticing his changed appearance. He then suddenly felt something soft and furry beneath him. It shifted and moved and when he looked behind him, he met face to face with the head of a curious wolf. "Aaahhhhh!" Branch jumped up in alarm and crawled away fearfully. The wolf had bluish black fur with a black nose and beautiful green eyes and judging from his size, he guessed it was a young wolf. "Grandma, there's a wolf!"

Rosiepuff looked back and saw the terrified look on Branch's face upon the wolf. "Oh, do not be frightened, Branch. This young wolf saved your life. He found you near the river last night and kept you warm and dry until I came along. I'm also guessing he's about your age. No doubt you two will get along so well."

Branch was surprised by her calm demeanor, but he knows she's wise beyond her years and rarely gets afraid. Her faith and trust in the spirits is undeniable and she knows the land like the back of her hand. He sees no reason to doubt her. The wolf gently walked towards Branch, sniffing him. Branch nervously placed his hand on the wolf's nose. "Uh, nice wolf." The wolf then happily licked him, covering him in slobber.

"See, he likes you already," Rosiepuff chuckled.

"Ugh!" Branch was disgusted by the saliva and wiped them off. He then gasped, suddenly remembering of the events that occurred last night. "Grandma! You won't believe this! I was on top of this huge rock and all of the sudden..."

However, as Branch continued to explain, all Rosiepuff could hear was the troll's native tongue, unable to understand him due to him being a troll.

"Mirri lights ropatas hen se jēdar se īlen lifted ñuhoso bē konīr. Īles daorun nyke've mirre ūndegīon gō!"

"Branch, honey, shh-shh-shh," Rosiepuff shushed him, placing her finger to his lips. "I'm sorry, angel, but I don't speak troll."

"Huh?" Branch became confused at her words. He curiously turns around to look at his reflection in the water. Instead of his human face, his reflection was replaced with a troll with teal skin, cobalt blue hair, sullen ears, a lavender nose, and was nearly naked if not for the ripped clothing he wore.

He then started to panic while checking his new body. "No. NO, NO! NO!" The last thing he felt was his ears wiggling and twitching around. Horrified by appearance, he let out a loud yell which could be heard from beyond the land, scaring some birds from the trees and alerting deer herds from their grazing.

"AAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!"

"Alright! Alright! ALRIGHT! Would you settle down?! Settle!" Rosiepuff carefully tried to calm down her panicking troll grandson, watching him run around, jumping about, dragging himself through the ground like a crazed maniac. "Branch! Branch...Branch, sweetie...Okay, this isn't going to work!" Rosiepuff sighed and grabbed him in her hands and gently pulled his hair, stopping his yelling to the heavens.

She lifted his chin to face her. "Branch, listen to me. Soren did this." She then carefully analyzed her changed grandson, amazed by the magical transformation. "Strange. The spirits don't usually make these kind of changes." She then checked his teeth and ears. "Oh, oh, my, my...Look at you, so adorable. Looks like Soren must have something really big planned for you. Yes, indeed. Now, you are going to get a whole new perspective on things.

Branch furrowed his eyes in confusion and attempts to speak, "Sir, umbagon sepār iā tȳne..."

Rosiepuff cuts him off by flicking his head, making Branch stop talking as he rubbed his head. "Hey. Listen to me, young man. You got yourself into this mess. If you want to change, take it up with your brother's spirit."

"Skorkydoso?" Branch wondered.

"You'll find him on the mountain where the lights touch the earth," Rosiepuff explained, drawing the mountain's picture on the dirt. "Oh, I almost forgot. While you were out, I took the liberty of making some new clothes for you. I hope they fit." She placed the clothes near Branch. He looked his new clothes which consisted of a leafy vest and stitch up brown pants almost similar to his original clothes. He wasn't sure of the new clothes but he rather take them than walk around looking like some wildling. "I know you're confused but at least you have your companion with you. Animals tend to assist trolls in need. Don't worry, Branch. Soren will help you make up for what you've done wrong."

"But I didn't do anything wrong." Branch then looked up and realized Rosiepuff was gone, leaving him alone with the wolf. "Grandma? Grandma! Wait. I didn't do anything wrong!" He exclaimed and then sighed heavily. "I don't even know how to get there." He then dressed himself in the new clothes and silently admitted that he kind of like them. Suddenly, he heard a couple of voices from behind a rock and curiously followed the source.

"What happened to them?" The first voice asked.

"I don't know," The other answered.

"There were right here a second ago. And now they're gone!"

"Yeah, that's pretty weird, huh."

Branch climbed the rock and to his surprise, the voices belonged to a couple of Party crashers having a discussion over some missing food.

"So, you're telling me you didn't take or eat them and you have no idea where they are?!" The smaller Party crasher asked in frustration to his friend, whom obviously have his cheeks and his pockets filled with the missing food.

"Uh-uh."

"Hey, hey you." The two party crashers turned to the troll above them. "How can you talk?" Branch was shocked that he can understand them now since humans couldn't speak in their tongue.

"Get out much or is this your first time? To answer your question, our lips are moving and words are coming out. Simple as that," the small party crasher replied. "Look, we're having an important conversion here, so why don't you just..." Before the party crasher could finish, he saw the wolf behind Branch and he and his friends nervously moved back while stammering, "Just back away, real slow-like."

"Wait, I need to ask you something!" Branch tried to speak.

The bigger Party crasher suddenly dropped all his gathered berries from his pockets and spit out the nuts he had in his mouth at his friends before running away.

"I knew you had them!" His friend yelled before running away as well.

Branch sighed and looked up to see a small family of clouds floating across the sky in a formation.

"Are we there yet?" One cloud boy asked.

"Don't make me turn this formation around!" The adult cloud said with a warning.

Branch tried to get their attention but it only landed on deaf ears. "Hey! Wait, wait ,wait! Come back! I'm trying to find where the lights..." He then heard somebody talking about him over by one of the logs and caught sight of a couple of funny looking creatures. They are identical twin Funk troll brothers with both sharing striped red and pink fur, long necks, four blue legs and blue hair. They have noticeable differences: one has gold tinsel-like fur on his neck, shorter, thicker dreadlocks with gold rings on them and an earring on his left ear. The other has buck teeth, short, woolly blue hair that doesn't stick up and wears a green cap.

"What's he getting worked about?" The elder brother known as Darnell wondered.

"Gee, I don't know. Maybe the clouds probably rained on his parade, eh?" The younger brother named Cooper assumed while laughing about it.

Darnell then noticed Branch looking at them but what got him spooked was the wolf behind him. "Oh, gee. Is that a wolf? Let's beat it! This way."

"No, no, no, this way!" Cooper said. But the two brothers bumped into each other and got their necks wrapped together, stuck in place.

"Oh, great. Thank you very much, brother," Darnell sarcastically commented.

"Just stay still, okay?" Cooper tried to untangle themselves. "This is not helping at all!" Cooper laughed like the goof he is.

"Hey, you two! Wait!" Branch came towards them. The wolf followed behind.

The Funk brothers gasped. "Head down, head down," Darnell pulled himself and his brother down and hid behind a log.

"I think he's seen us. Now what?" Cooper asked.

"Act like we're not here."

"WE'RE NOT HERE!" Cooper exclaimed.

"Shh! What are you doing, bro?" Darnell asked, kicking his brother's feet.

"I'm just doing what you've told me!" Cooper whispered.

"Just be quiet and don't say a word!"

Branch and the wolf lowered their heads to meet the brothers. "Um, excuse me. I just want to..."

The brothers, still have their necks stuck together, screamed at the sight and ran out of their hiding place. "Please, man, don't hurt us. And don't let your big bad wolf eat us!" Darnell said.

"He wouldn't like us. We taste like hairballs!" Cooper shouted.

"Yeah. But if you have to choose, just eat rocks-for-brains over there," Darnell referred to Cooper.

"Hey, looks who's talking, bad rapper?" Cooper argued.

"Cupcake pooper!"

"Funky Breath!"

"Long Neck!" Darnell yelled, but immediately stopped when he saw his brother whimpering. "Sorry."

"You went too far that time. Besides, we both have long necks," Cooper pointed out.

"Okay, I said I'm sorry."

Branch sighed and went to them, gently unwrapping their necks until they're freed. "Guys, relax. I'm not going to hurt anybody. And the wolf is actually friendly. He won't eat you," Branch simply said.

The brothers sighed in relief, knowing they're safe. "Well, that's mighty kind of you, buddy. So, my name's Cooper and this is my brother Darnell, but you can call him D."

"What's popping, my troll bro?" D asked.

Branch groaned. "Don't call me that."

"Sorry, um...Mr. Troll bro?"

"No, I mean I'm not a troll. I hate trolls," Branch replied with annoyance.

"Ouch, bro, that's harsh considering we're all trolls here!" D said, feeling kind of hurt.

Branch looked confused. Comparing himself to them, it's hard to see that they're the same. "Huh? Wait, are you saying you two are trolls too?"

"Well, yeah, dude!" Cooper nodded. "Me and my bro, we both are what you know as Funk trolls. But the best thing is that you don't have to be just one thing. I'm Pop and Funk!"

"He can even Hip-hop like me!" D added.

"Yeah!" Cooper agreed and both brothers high fived each other. "And you, my friend, are a Pop Troll. See your tall hair, bright colors, and happy face?" Branch only scowled at him. "Okay, see your tall hair and bright colors? What else could you be then?"

"Okay, I don't care. Look, do either of you know where the lights touch the earth?" Branch asked.

Both brothers remained silent until they shook their heads. "Yee... ahh... No. Nope. Sorry, troll brother," Cooper replied.

"I'm not your brother, I'm just a troll...No, I mean, I'm not even a troll! I'm a man!" Branch said. D and Cooper only laughed, thinking it was a joke. "I was transformed into a troll magically! In fact, I was lifted into the sky by my brother. Get it?"

The two funk trolls stared at him as if he grew a second head. "Uh-huh. Crazy!" D faked sneezed.

"Gesundheit," Cooper said.

"No," D then faked sneezed again to make Cooper understand him. "Fruitcake."

"Are you okay, brother?"

"No. That guy. Over there. He's crazy!"

"Hey, I am not crazy!" Branch growled. "I know what I saw and I know where I've been," Branch only shook his head in annoyance. "Why am I even talking to a couple of dumb llamas?"

"Hey, brother. We understand," D patted Branch's head and then played along for his sake. "Sometimes we're not even Funk trolls. We're fairies."

"Yeah, well, he's the fairy and I'm more like a purebred grizzly bear. Look at my teeth. ROAR!" Cooper joked along.

Branch groaned. "You know what? I'm done here! I'll find it myself," Branch said as he walked away from them.

Cooper looked on to where Branch was headed. "Oh, I wouldn't go that way."

"Why not?" D asked.

"Hmmm...I don't know. There was a reason...It's on the tip of my tongue."

Branch scoffed and shook it off, not wanting to waste any time with them. Just then, he felt his body being surrounded by a net was suddenly lifted into the air by a tree. The sudden force made him bounce around, clashing onto some rocks and a tree back and forth.

"Oh yeah, there was a trap you have to watch out for!" Cooper remembered only to see that Branch was already in the said trap. "Oh, sorry, dude! Don't worry, I'll get a stick to get you out of there!" Cooper said, quickly dashing off.

D quickly followed him, leaving Branch alone. "Bro, I better come with you to make sure you remember it."

"Ow," Branch groaned once he's stopped bouncing. He looked down to see the wolf looking at him curiously. "Wolf, I don't know why you're following me around, so you can just go away. But if you're gonna stay, at least do something useful."

The wolf saw the net trap swing around and thought it was fun. Wanting to also help Branch, he jumped high in the air, trying to bite the rope. But it was too high for him and couldn't get a bite. He only sat while panting heavily.

"At least you tried," Branch sighed. He looked around to see if there's anything he could use to get out of the trap. He noticed a small twig on a tree near him and tried swinging himself over to it. He didn't notice someone was closing in to his spot. After swinging for the third time, he held onto the tree bark and grabbed hold of the twig, smiling for his success.

"Psst. Hey!" Branch heard a whisper from inside a bunch of leaves in the tree and managed to see only a pair of eyes. "Is the coast clear?"

"What?" He asked.

"Are there hunters or any humans around?"

"Uh... no," Branch answered.

"Oh great!" The voice happily exclaimed, bursting out of the leaves which scared Branch, causing him to let go of the twig and and hit face first with the tree bark.

When Branch recovered from the pain, he came to see that voice belonged to a teenage troll girl about 15 who had a unique sense of style. She has muddy red-skin with a both bright and dark red mohawk and large pinkish eyes. Her left ear has a hoop earring in it; on her other ear are two earrings. She has heavy black makeup around her eyes and wears a "rocker" outfit which includes a slightly torn white tank top, black leather jacket, black ripped shorts, studded bracelets and a black belt with a skull buckle. She also carried a guitar on her back and was accompanied by a small fluffy bat with bushy white fur, red eyes, fangs, small black wings, and muddy purple skin.

"So, how ya doin'? Well, it's obvious not good due to your current situation. Guess you've haven't seen the trap, huh? We saw it from a mile away," the girl, whom goes by the name of Barb, laughed while walking across the branch until she faced him. "You must be pretty embarrassed. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone...unless I want to," she whispered with a smirk.

"What?"

"You need to get down. Let me help you," she offered as she took out her guitar.

Seeing what she was about to do, Branch tried to stop her. "No, wait, wait, wait, wait!" But the guitar hit his foot. "Ow!"

"Hey, hold still!" She kept hitting the net like a piñata with her guitar, trying to help, only for Branch to feel each hit painfully.

"Would you STOP IT?!" Branch screamed until he got hit on the head with her instrument. "Are you trying to kill me here?!"

"It's no use. Guess the only way to get down is to chop down the tree with you on it," Barb grinned.

"I don't need some stupid troll's help. I just need to get to that twig there," Branch said with annoyance. "Why don't you just let do this by myself and you stay out of the way?"

Barb walked next to the tree trunk and sat down. "Can I sit here?"

"Fine, YES!"

"Okay, if you say so," Barb smirked as she sat down. Branch then began to swing himself towards the twig and tried to grab it. Barb enjoyed watching him try and fail, knowing he's too proud to ask for help and then looked down to see the wolf lying down with his eyes on Branch. "Hey, dude, you know that there's a hungry wolf below you?"

"Yes, I know that, genius. And he's not hungry...at least not for trolls. So you're safe," Branch replied. "I'm kinda stuck with him."

"Cool. My only animal BFF is Debbie here," Barb hugged her bat after she brought a branch filled with berries for her to snack on. She ate one berry as she then continued her conversation while Branch kept on trying to reach the twig. "She's my baby. You know when I was little, I was really into wild animals. All kinds of animals. I saw eagles, wolves, horses, lions, which are my total favorite by the way..."

Several hours had gone by and the sky turned into a beautiful shade of orange and red, indicating it's a very late afternoon, probably near sunset. Branch still attempted to get the twig while Barb continued chatting away, sometimes playing with her guitar. "And then my body had cuts and bruises and I broke my arm. So from that day on, I learned not to do crazy stunts without protection pads and without some supervision."

Barb stopped when Branch was close to reaching the twig. She spun her eyes and without him noticing, she pushed the net closer so that he could grab the twig.

"Ha! You see? It's all about using your head," Branch bragged as he tried to break the twig, only for it to snap and swats Branch's face.

"Oh, man! That was a riot! Do it again!" She laughed.

Branch stood up and rubbed his face from the hit. "Don't you have someplace to go?" He asked in annoyance.

"Yeah, the Troll Valley."

"Great. Now is there someone over there that you can annoy? Friends? Family? Troll-eating animals?" Branch sarcastically commented.

Barb ignored his comment as she analyzed the trap and then asked, "How about this, dude? I get you down, then we go together. Just you and me and our pets. Deal?"

Branch sighed. "Yeah, okay, fine. If you can magically get me down, I'll go with you to this..."

"Troll Valley," Barb finished.

"Whatever. But if you can't, just turn around, walk away, don't speak, and never come back. EVER!"

"You swear?" She asked.

"Yeah," he optimistically replied.

"Let's shake on it," she stated and then spits into her hand before handing it to Branch. "Come on."

"Ew," Branch was disgusted. "Do I have to?" He saw her nod. He sighed and then spits into his hand where they both shook hands, grossing Branch out. "Well, that was disgusting. Now, let me remind you that this is a human trap and you're just a dumb little troll. So, there's really no way you're gonna be able to..." Branch rambled on, but stopped when he noticed Barb swatting the peg with her guitar like a baseball bat, releasing the trap. He screamed as he fell from the tree, hitting the ground hard.

The force also snapped the rope and hits him in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him. He gasped from the pain while as he clutched his stomach painfully. The wolf then playfully shoves his nose on him, checking for injuries and licked him just in case. "Okay, wolf, I'm fine! At least, I will be," Branch said with heavy breaths.

"Okay, here's the plan. I was thinking that we travel by day and sleep by night. I'm supposed to go to bed about two hours after sunset, but I love to rock and roll in the dark, so..." Barb then stopped when her ears picked up a sound. When she looked over Branch, she gasped and yelled out, "RUN!" Barb dashed away with Debbie flying behind her, leaving Branch and the wolf alone.

"Yeah, good riddance!" Branch exclaimed. "I thought she never leave." Just then, Branch picked up a strange sound. One good thing he discovered since becoming a troll is the accurate hearing. They could pick up any sound, noise, or pitch from anywhere. The wolf picked up a strange scent and he could tell it's not friendly company.

They both heard footprints behind them and turned to see none other than Creek, coming closer with a spear in hand. The wolf lowered his ears and bare his fangs, snarling. However, Branch was surprised and pleased to meet his brother again.

"Creek? Creek, you've found me!" But Creek couldn't make out Branch's words since to him, it is a different language. "You wouldn't believe what a nightmare this has been for me." But his eyes widened in shock as Creek continued coming towards him, raising his spear at him. "Creek? It's...it's me! Branch!" He backed away fearfully, accidentally getting his foot tangled in the net trap.

Creek yelled as he brought the spear down to attack, which Branch dodged by rolling to the side. The wolf then barked at Creek to protect Branch. When Creek attempts to attack again, the wolf pounced at him, grabbing the spear and then threw it away. He leaped away and grabs Branch by the vest with his fangs, snapping the ropes on the trap with only a tied rope around Branch's foot. Creek chased after them, but was knocked back by a tree branch.

The wolf ran away until he fell onto a dry riverbed where there was shallow water coming from the gigantic glacier in front of them. Branch noticed an entrance of an ice cave inside the glacier.

"Over there!" Branch pointed ahead.

The wolf then ran ahead and managed to squeeze through the hole where they both entered inside. The cave was surprisingly big and deep enough for the two of them with ice walls surrounding them, water from the melting ice escaped through the crack, and a cold atmosphere spread through the air. They breathed heavily, looking back to see if they were still being followed.

Branch sighed in relief but gasped in fright as soon as he heard ice cracking, looking up to see Creek's silhouette on top of the glacier as he searched for Branch. The troll remained quiet and still with the wolf beside him in the same position.

"Is he gone?" Barb, holding Debbie in her hands, appeared from her hiding spot which surprised Branch. "I think he was going to-"

"Shh!" Not wanting to be discovered, Branch quickly pulls her to him while covering her mouth, hoping that Creek didn't hear her.

Creek thought he heard something. But just when the trolls thought they were found, Creek suddenly ran off towards the other direction, away from the cave.

"Whew," Branch exhaled the breath he was holding, before realizing he had Barb in his grip.

"Hello! I can't breathe," She struggled until Branch lets her go.

Branch and Barb then went towards a dry area near the water and sat down to relax with their animals joining them. Branch was still shocked by the sudden actions of his brother. The look on Creek's face were unforgettable: filled with anger and fury as if he had nothing to lose. He knew that he was a troll now yet had forgotten that no human can understand him as long he remains that way. But what surprised him was that he was willing to hunt him down like an animal.

"Why is he chasing me?" He wondered.

"Duh, that's what they do!" Barb answered.

"But it's not like him."

"Please, we're only trolls. Who would expect us to understand the ways of humans?" Barb scoffed until she saw his face still filled with confusion and worry. She tried to cheer him up. "Well, don't worry. Lucky for him, he didn't find us 'cause when I get in a fight, I go all wild and I'm a roaring fire with red hair! I mean, not that I'm bragging but I got some killer moves," she proudly said.

"Oh really?" Branch said sarcastically.

"Yep. This first one, well...it's just something I made up called 'The Slammer.'" She demonstrated by slamming her guitar like a hammer, but not hard enough to break it. She then made a combination of punches, biting, and kicking in a frenzy fury. "And this one is one of my favorites that I like to call 'Deathly Roar of the Blazing Lion!"

"Uh-huh. He's coming back!" Branch lied.

"Where?" Barb yelped and hid behind Branch.

"Blazing Lion, huh? More like a smoky kitty. Typical," Branch scoffed.

"So? I wasn't ready," Barb chuckled weakly. "Yeah, well, the next time we run into that hunter..."

Branch then cuts her off as he tried to untangle the rope around his foot. "Okay, there is no 'we'. And I'm not taking you to any Troll Valley."

"What?! But you shook on it. We've exchanged saliva!" Barb complained.

"Yeah, well, things change. That's part of life. Deal with it!" Branch said before he got up and began to leave. "See ya, kid."

Barb tried to think of a way to get him to stay. "Wait, uh..." Branch stopped and listened. With a heavy sigh, she continued, "Look, the truth is, I got separated from my dad. And now with this hunter around, I don't know if I can make it on my own."

"Kid, I got my own problems to deal with," Branch said.

"Come on. Please," Barb insisted. "Can't we just go together? The Troll Valley is paradise! There's a lot of trolls, music, and a ton of food and every night we watch the lights touch the mountain. And last year, Riff..."

Branch picked up a valuable information. "Hang on, what did you just say?"

"There's lots of trolls, music, and tons of food," Barb repeated.

"No. You know where the lights touch the earth?" He asked.

"Yeah! It's the top of the mountain right by the Troll Valley!"

"You're kidding me," Branch had trouble believing her.

"No, no. They're practically next door. Come on, I'll show you. It'll be great! And as a bonus, I promise to help you escape from every trap you walk into."

"I'm not going to walk into any more..." However, the rope on his foot got stuck behind a rock, tripping him to the ground. "Traps," he groaned.

Barb helps him get untied. "Come on. What do you say?"

"You're sure you can take me to where the lights touch the earth?" He asked.

"Yeah, no problem!" Barb assured him.

Branch knew what he was getting into and deeply thought about it. Though he isn't thrilled of being accompanied by another troll, let alone a young one with high spirits. But deep inside, he realized that he doesn't know the area and needs her to guide him. With a heavy sigh, he said, "If you slow me down, I have no choice but to..."

"I won't, I promise," she declared.

"Fine. Now I have to know: what kind of troll are you? Because so far, I've seen and heard Funk and Pop, but you're new to me," Branch wondered.

"Guess you don't get out much, do you?" Barb said. "If you must know, I'm a Rock troll. Proud, fierce, and loud!"

"And yet, you need my protection," Branch smirked.

"I'm still not old enough to be on my own and it's just until we get to Troll Valley and find my dad, okay?"

"Alright, now let's get some sleep because we leave first thing tomorrow," Branch said and then laid down to sleep, locating himself besides the wolf for warmth and comfort.

Barb sighed in relief, happy that she won't be traveling alone. She then walked towards the wolf and laid down next to Branch, but Branch sat up and gently pushed her away from him, not wanting her company.

"And do me a favor, keep all that cuddly troll stuff to a minimum, okay, kid?"

Barb got annoyed and said, "My name's not 'kid'. It's Barbara, but only my dad calls me that. Just call me Barb." Branch only shook his head and went back to sleep. "So what's your name? And your wolf's?"

Branch growled in annoyance. "If I tell you, would you let me go to sleep in peace?"

"Sure," she agreed.

"Branch. My name's Branch. And the wolf...well, he doesn't have a name, but since he's coming with us and not to mention, I'm stuck with him, he needs a name." He glanced at the wolf, analyzing his features while tapping his chin. "He's dark as the night, furry, and kind of friendly. Maybe... Night? No, it's too girly. How about...Shadow? Fang? Howler? No, none of those fits him. Hmm...He found me in the dark until I saw him in the light. Like from dusk til dawn. How about Dusk?" Branch liked the sound of that. He softly called out. "Dusk." The wolf responded with a curious stare. Branch then pointed at him. "Dusk." The wolf wagged his tail and nuzzled him with his muzzle, accepting the name. "Guess he likes it."

"Well, I like it, too. Dusk, Branch, I'm glad I met you both," Barb smiled.

"Well, don't get used to us. This is only temporary until we reach this valley of yours. Now, please go to sleep," Branch resumed his rest.

"Good night," Barb yawned and then went to sleep, dreaming of their new adventure that awaits them in the morning.
