With the commotion over what Hermione Granger had discovered about Time Turners, Sirius, Remus and Severus had decided to wait a few days before they tried to destroy the Horcrux's.
When Severus was able to get away the three of them retreated to Regulus's room, which of late had become their new meeting spot. The three grown men sat cross-legged like school children on the dishevelled floor of Regulus's old room, the cup and the locket, and a pillowcase full of Basilisk fangs on the floor between them.
"So we just pick one up and stab them?" Sirius asked, breaking the silence that had filled the room.
"I'm not entirely sure we should be touching them," Remus said apprehensively.
"Then how do we destroy them?" Sirius asked confused.
"Oh we'll use the fangs, but maybe we should put on gloves?" Remus asked, looking at Severus to confirm his thoughts.
"I'm not entirely sure, I doubt Potter was smart enough to wear gloves when he collected them, and he's still walking around," Severus offered.
"Oi," Sirius responded.
"Well let's just play this safe," Remus responded, ignoring Severus's comments about Harry as he scanned the room, his eyes landing on an old quidditch glove, and a pair of thin Slytherin crested mittens.
"These will work," Remus continued, as he crossed the room and tossed one glove each to Sirius and Severus and pulled on the single quidditch glove.
"How come you get the quidditch glove and I get the ratty Snake glove?" Sirius asked, holding up the glove between two fingers disgusted.
"You're ridiculous," Remus responded as he pulled off the quidditch glove and tossed it to Sirius holding his hand out for the Slytherin crested mitten.
Sirius smirked catching the glove Remus had thrown and tossing the Slytherin one over to him.
"This entire thing is ridiculous," Severus said, shaking his head at their interaction.
"It's just a precaution," Remus insisted.
The three of them sat in silence for a moment, each wearing an old worn glove they found, each unsure and nervous about the task that lay before them.
"I can go first," Remus offered, breaking the silence.
"No, it should be me," Sirius responded.
No one interjected, as Sirius reached his gloved hand into the pillowcase and pulled out a Basilisk fang. He took a deep breath and cautiously stabbed the cup.
Nothing happened, he looked up to see what Remus and Severus thought he should do next, but the two grown men were laughing.
"Of course he can't do it," Remus chuckled, looking over at Severus with a smirk. "He wasn't the brightest back at Hogwarts, and all that time locked up in Azkaban has made him even more useless." The two men laughed at Remus's joke.
Sirius felt his anger rising, and his hand hovered about the cup.
"This is exactly why Ginevra didn't trust him," Severus laughed.
"Not even his own best friend trusted him, and now James and Lily are dead because of how useless he is" Remus nodded in agreement with Severus.
"That isn't true," Sirius said.
"Of course it is, why else would Ginevra spend so much time with your brother?" Remus added smiling.
"Was it because she needed a real man to satisfy her needs? And you were just to dumb to see they made you out to be the fool?" Severus laughed.
"That isn't true," Sirius said, his voice wavering slightly as he looked back and forth between the two men.
"Of course it is, all those parties she went to him with, all of the secret rendezvous, she needed a Pure Blood who shared her values," Severus added.
"Stop it!" Sirius shouted.
"James never trusted you and Ginevra never trusted you," Remus added.
"She never even loved you, not like Regulus Severus added.
"I said enough!" Sirius shouted, as he pulled his hand high above his head and with all his might brought the basilisk fang down, sinking it directly into the centre of the badger.
The cup vibrated, and hissed as it let off steam, and Sirius found himself panting as smoke he didn't even realize filled the room started the clear, and with it the two laughing men.
"What just happened?" Sirius asked, as he came face to face with a very pale Remus and Severus – the real ones this time.
Both men were silent for a moment before Remus spoke softly.
"You just destroyed a horcrux."
"I'm going next," Severus added, as he raised a gloved hand.
