Hello guys! I'm back with the Sequel of "I'll Be". This sequel takes place after the events of the REVISED edition. If you haven't read it, I recommend you do so, because I ended it differently than the previous version. Anyway I really hope you guys like this story. Please let me know in a review or PM, for I appreciate both. Stay safe and enjoy the first part. Love, Ellivia22
Disclaimer: If I owned Teen Titans there would've been more Beast Boy centric episodes. Just because he's my favorite :D
Trust Me
Part I
Raven
Of the fourteen years that I've been alive I've never shown this much emotion. The monks of Azarath taught me that the best way to keep my demonic side at bay I had to keep all my feelings bottled up. Now as I'm sitting on the path in front of Titan's Tower, sobbing, everything I ever learned from Azarath has been forgotten. I am so overwhelmed from the intense pain from my broken heart that I don't care what destruction my powers will cause.
How could this happen? How is it possible that I could lose everything that makes me happy in one instant? Am I truly cursed? Am I being punished for my father's sins?
"Raven! Are you okay?! What happened?!"
When I finally have the energy I remove my soaked hands from my face. Robin is kneeling beside me, looking very concerned. The Boy Wonder has returned from taking Adonis to jail. Oh how I wish I could go to the prison and make Adonis pay for what he did to Garfield, but judging by the emotional state I'm in, that might not be the best idea. I might kill him.
"I-it's Beast Boy," I struggle to get out. "H-he's badly hurt."
Unlike when Garfield was affected by the chemicals, Robin looks extremely worried about our green teammate. "What do you mean? Were you guys attacked again while I was gone?"
I shake my head. "During the battle with Adonis, Beast Boy hit his head somehow. H-he doesn't remember anything that happened since June-including our relationship." I am barely able to utter the last word. Several explosions of rocks can be heard around me. I use a shield with my aura in an attempt to protect us from the chaos.
There is a stunned silence between us. Robin puts a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Raven, I understand why you're upset, I truly do. But you need to calm down before you lose complete control."
I struggle to breathe. It's difficult to do because of the multitude of sobs still escaping me. He's right, of course. I don't know if I can. I've never hurt this badly before. This heartbreak is ten times more painful than when Malchior betrayed me.
"I know everything seems hopeless right now, but there is hope you can hang on to." I glare at my masked teammate angrily. How dare he give me false hope?! Robin pretends not to notice. "This injury could be just temporary. He might wake up tomorrow and remember everything. You just have to be there for him and hope he remembers sooner rather than later."
I calm down slightly. Robin's right. Garfield's memory loss might not be permanent. I just need to hold onto the hope that he will remember me soon. I need to hold onto with all my heart. I wipe my swollen red rimmed eyes. "I hope so."
Robin stands up, offering a hand to help me up. When I get to my feet I realize to great relief that the only damage my powers caused was the destruction of all the rocks surround us. They all lay on the ground in tiny little pieces. "Come on," Robin says gently. "Let's go check on Beast Boy. Maybe he's feeling better already."
Silently I follow Robin back into the tower, I try desperately to not have my hopes up. Otherwise it'll just lead to a bigger letdown in the end.
When Robin and I enter the medical ward five minutes later we see Garfield sitting on one of the beds, Cyborg hovering over him. Starfire is nowhere in sight. Garfield is leaning over a large trashcan that he's clutching in his arms, retching. Instead of wearing his usual uniform, he's clad in a hospital nightgown. Cyborg is behind him, applying a thick white bandage behind the green boy's head. Immediately I can feel Garfield's emotions of extreme physical pain and utter confusion.
"Raven told me you were injured in battle," Robin says to Garfield once we get closer. "What happened?"
Garfield weakly lifts up his head from the pail. My stomach clenches seeing how pale his green face is. I notice he's completely drenched in sweat. "Wish I could tell you, dude. The last thing I remember is going to bed after watching Clash of the Planets with Cyborg. Next thing I know, I'm puking in the gym." Garfield vomits again. "Ugh I haven't puked this much since I came down with sakutia."
Robin glances at me. "He didn't turn into the Beast while you guys were battling Adonis, did he?"
"No," I say sharper than I intend to. "Adonis threw him into the tower. He must've hit his head on something."
"I believe I may have found such an object," Starfire says, finally joining us in the medical ward. In her hands she's clutching a long silver rod. It looks like the rod that is above the weight bench. I feel sick to my stomach seeing the amount of blood on the object. He really hit it hard.
"Oh Azar," I can't help but utter out loud.
"At the speed he was going I'm surprised this didn't kill him." Cyborg comments.
"I'm stronger...stronger than I-." Garfield finishes the sentence in the trashcan.
"I'll give you something for the nausea," Cyborg promises. "But first I have to ask you a couple of questions about how much you remember."
"Should this not wait until he is feeling well again?" Starfire asks worriedly.
"No it's okay," Garfield answers, taking a sip of water from the cup Cyborg hands him. "I want to know just as much as you guys how much time I've forgotten."
"What is your name?" Cyborg asks.
"Actual name or alias?"
"Both."
"When I kick bad guy butt I am Beast Boy. I also go by The Sexy Stud by all the fine ladies I meet. It's the ears that do the trick," Garfield looks over at me, wiggling his eyebrows. I roll my eyes. Looks like his ego is back. I'll never admit this, but I've kinda missed it.
"And your real name?"
"Garfield," Beast Boy answers. "Garfield Mark Logan."
"Where were you born?"
"Africa."
"Who is Slade?"
Garfield's eyes darken. "The worst villain we've ever faced."
"And when was the last time we fought him?" Cyborg asks.
The night he almost forced Terra to kill me."
Cyborg looks at the rest of us, then back at our green teammate. "Actually, we fought him yesterday."
The changeling's face scrunches as he struggles to remember. I can feel his confusion. "Did we? You'd think I'd remember that."
Cyborg's voice drops lower than normal. "Do you remember us? Your teammates?"
"Of course I do! You're Cyborg, the coolest robot I know and my best friend." Garfield points at Robin next. "You're Robin, the team leader and martial art expert. Starfire, the alien princess who loves my jokes." Finally he points at me. I hold my breath. "And Raven, the smartest of all of us."
My heart shreds even more-if that's possible. The way Garfield spoke about me-so normal, with no love in his voice, hurts me so badly. It's as if all the love he ever felt for me was gone. I want to run away to my room so I can go to Nevermore and let my emotions out without causing destruction. However I force myself to stay where I am. I barely hear Cyborg's next question.
"Have we ever hurt you?"
Garfield looks at Cyborg in surprise and confusion. "Never. You guys have never hurt me. I trust you all with my life. Why would you ask me something like that?"
"Well..." Cyborg begins.
"We accidentally hurt you during one of the missions back in October," Robin says quickly.
"Oh." Garfield puts the trash can on the ground next to him, then leans back on the bed. He closes his eyes. "No. I don't remember that either. Every time I try to remember something it's like I'm hitting a brick wall. Man, my head really hurts."
"We'll let you get some rest," Cyborg hands Garfield a couple of pills to take with the water. "Take these. It'll help with your headache and nausea. I'll check on you in a little bit."
"Thanks dude," Garfield responds tiredly.
"Feel better Friend." Starfire says sweetly.
"Let's go to the meeting room," Robin says once we're all back in the hall and the door to the medical ward is closed. "We need to figure out how we're going to handle this.
"Before you guys came in I ran several tests on Beast Boy," Cyborg says scientifically. "I ran a CT Scan, MRI, and an EEG. Besides his brain being really swollen, everything seems normal. I also checked out his reflexes and sensory functions, which also turned out to be normal, so besides the memory loss I don't think his injury has caused permanent damage. Due to the fact that he can't remember the past six months I believe he has retrograde amnesia."
"How do we cure him?" Starfire asks.
"Well, there's no medication that can help with this. The best thing we can do is just wait it out until he regains his memory. However, there is a possibility that he never will."
"Can you heal him, Raven?" Robin asks.
I shake my head. "It's too dangerous to heal a head injury. I could cause permanent damage."
There is a strained silence in the meeting room for a long time as each of us are lost in our own thoughts. Cyborg's words echo in my mind over and over again. "I can't believe this is happening," I whisper, speaking for the first time in what feels like an hour. "It seems so unreal."
"I know," Robin comments. "But we could consider this a blessing in disguise. Now that he doesn't want to leave it gives us more time to make up for what we did to him."
"I don't think apologizing for what we've done is the best thing to do." Cyborg says. "It might jog his memory in the worst way."
"Well, we don't have to necessarily have to tell him why we are trying to make amends." Robin says.
"But we cannot just leave him without his memory," Starfire protests. "It would be more honest if we just told him the truth."
"No," I respond sharply. "We will not tell him the truth. We will pretend like none of this happened."
"But-" Cyborg begins, but I cut him off.
"This is the first time he's acted normal since after he took the antidote. Finally he's happy. As much as I want him to remember me and our relationship, I don't want him to remember the trauma he's suffered. It'll shatter him all over again."
"But if he regains his memory and finds out we lied to him it could make everything worse," Cyborg argues.
"We're not going to lie to him," I respond, trying to convince the others as well as myself. "We'll just be vague if he asks questions."
"He's bound to ask questions when he sees the scars Slade left on him."
"I'll take care of that," I answer shortly.
Robin sighs. "This might not be the most ideal plan, but I have to agree with Raven. Beast Boy is back to his old self and we need to keep it that way until he remembers. If we tell him what we did to him, he might shut down all over again. The best thing to do right now is not tell Beast Boy anything that happened. We have to act normal."
I can't stand this conversation any longer. I have to get out of here before I lose control of my emotions all over again. Without another word I leave the room. Robin's right. Everything has to go back to normal-meaning the relationship with Garfield never existed. The only way I can manage that is if I stay as far away from him as possible. I walk slowly down the hall back in the direction of the medical ward. I want to see Garfield one last time.
Garfield's expression is of surprise when I enter the medical ward alone. He's sitting up in the bed. From his emotions I can tell he's been concentrating really hard. Obviously he's trying to remember what he's forgotten. "What are you doing here?"
Though his tone isn't angry, I can't help but feel hurt by his question. He's back to thinking that I hate him. If only I could tell him how wrong he is. I force myself to act normal. It's nearly impossible. I long to hold him in my arms and kiss him. I want to tell him that I love him more than anything. Something I might never be able to do again. Another tear falls down my cheek.
"Rae, are you okay?" Garfield asks in concern.
"I'm fine. And don't call me Rae."
"Sorry," Garfield apologizes, giving me his trademark sheepish grin.
"How are you feeling?" I ask, coming closer.
"Weird. I'm trying to remember all I've forgotten, but it's impossible."
"Don't strain yourself," I tell him. "Your memory will come back to you in time." I hope I think to myself.
"You think so?"
"Yes."
We are quiet for a few minutes until Beast Boy breaks the silence. "Rae...ven?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry that I snapped at you earlier about what month it is. I-I was so confused and my head was killing me. I didn't mean to hurt you."
"It's okay. I understand." I can feel his energy draining from sitting up so long. "You should get some sleep. You might remember more in the morning."
"I can't. My head hurts too much."
Hesitantly I place my hands on both side of his head. I know I shouldn't be doing this, but I just can't stand seeing him suffering so much. I close my eyes. I can feel the excruciating sensation pounding in his head. It's like a sledgehammer is being slammed into his skull. I focus my power, reducing the massive headache. While I'm concentrating I'm able to analyze the severity of his injury. Not that I don't trust Cyborg, but I wanted to see for myself.
With my eyes closed I can see the swelling in his brain. It's like the size of a golf ball. The sight makes me sick. It's a lot worse than I thought. Before I cause any further damage I pull back. When I open my eyes I find Garfield staring at me, a distinct blush evident on his face.
"I feel better already. Thanks Raven."
"No problem. Now get your rest."
Once I'm sure that he's asleep I mumble a few words under my breath to make sure he stays in a deep sleep. I don't want him to wake up in the middle of what I'm about to do. Then, my hands glowing blue, I chant a few more incantations. If these spells work like they supposed to, all of Garfield's injuries from Slade will be hidden.
"I'm so sorry Garfield," I whisper, stroking his emerald hair lightly. "But this is goodbye. For now. I promise I will be here waiting when you regain your memory. And when you do, we'll go to Africa and start our new future, just like we planned." I kiss his lips gently, lingering for just a moment. This might be the last time I'll ever be with the person I love. I want this moment to last as long as possible. "I love you so much."
Then without looking back I leave the room. My next mission is to make sure that all the events of the past six months never happened.
To be continued...
