Chapter 5: Yusuke vs Rando: 99 Attacks
Previously:
"What is that thing?" Yusuke asked in a shaky voice.
The dark laughter from before echoed,"I'm the one you've been looking for, Rando."
Kagome starting shaking, hard, as memories flashed through her mind…

The Darkness. It surrounded her as the final battle went on outside of the Jewel. The Jewel. The true puppeteer. Controlling Naraku and manipulating everything from the beginning, just so it could keep on existing. Now, it's trying to trick an already broken Kagome into making a selfless wish. All she wanted was her Yoko back. But she knew she couldn't do it. It was a very selfish thing to want when so many people are dying. She closed her eyes as it finally hit her. There was no way to make a selfless wish without causing more problems. That's the trick. The Jewel was too corrupted by all the demons to grant such a wish. So what did she do?
"Kagome!" She looked up as Inuyasha finally got to her, "Found you. You can't make a wish. It'll keep you here to take over from Midoriko."
"I know." She hugged him, listening to both battles; inside and out of the Jewel. "I know why the Jewel was born inside me. It was the only way to protect it and keep demons from getting to it." She looked in his eyes, "I can't be selfish. I am the protector and I always will be. The Jewel can't be destroyed. So it needs to disappear."
"What?"
"I wish for the Shikon no Tama to disappear from this world."
A bright light surrounded them as everything froze, "Thank you." They turned to see Midoriko standing behind her, "You have freed me." She started glowing, "You are the protector because you are my descendant. You were meant to do this." Her entire being lite up, spreading her light through the Jewel, "As the true protector, you are sacrificing a life of normalcy to continue to be a true Miko. The Jewel, now purified of all demons and darkness, shall remain inside you forever; only to be passed on after your death. To help you continue onto your journey, my power is now your power." The light blinded Kagome, and when she opened her eyes, she was in her family's Well House. Alone. Crying, she sat on the stairs to mourn her friends and loved ones.

The figure rising out of the trench had red hair and piercing red eyes. He was slim, but muscular, with pale skin and a large scare across his chest that spider-webbed across the rest of his body. He had pointed ears and blue tribal lines across his face.
"So that's Rando." Botan mused.
"U-u-urameshi." Kuwabara stuttered, still out of it on the ground. "Are you ready to fight yet? 'Cause I'm ready as soon as you are."
"Huh, even when losing consciousness that boy has a one-track mind." Genkai stated as she looked back at the boy with Botan and Kagome.
"One track isn't the word for it." Kagome shook her head, "It's straight up tunnel vision with no way to look back." She sighed as they turned back to the newly exposed demon.
"This is always the hardest part." Rando stated with a smile. He started walking forwards as Yusuke, weary and still hurting, fell to one knee. "Choosing what technique to use first. Like a drooling boy in a candy store. Perhaps you can give me a good suggestion." Rando stopped right in front of Yusuke and smiled.
Yusuke looked up and glared, "Shut your mouth." He shot out at Rando and started punching him as much as possible, but the hits didn't even faze the demon. "And here's the kill!" He delivered a final punch straight to Rando's jaw, but he demon barely turned his head. "So there!" Yusuke turned back around. Rando just smirked, "Oh, crap!"
"This battle isn't going to last very long if only half of you can still throw a punch." Rando snarked.
Yusuke stared, "What?"
"Those punches had absolutely no Spirit Power. You've gone dry." Rando said as Yusuke just glared at him. "All right, I just thought of the perfect technique for you." Rando pulled his body in, like he was bracing himself, and red Spirit Energy surrounded him. As his eyes started glowing solid white; he opened his mouth and bunch of lit up strands of energy started flowing out like webs, surrounding Yusuke.
"What, is it?" Botan asked as the girls just stared.
"That is Life-Force Thread. An archaic form of materialized Spirit Energy, no doubt taken from a very ancient psychic." Genkai explained.
He stopped spitting out the webs and, grabbing them, turned them into thick tentacles. Rando smirked and threw them at Yusuke. "Damn it!" The teen was able to dodge the first one, but the second one wrapped around his leg. Then one wrapped around his waist, another around his other leg, and two around his wrists. "That's no good."
The tentacles pulled his limbs together and, lighting up, merged to become one large band wrapped around his arms and torso, still being held by Rando. It started tightening in, trying to squeeze his breath out, "I… can't move!" Yusuke cried, trying to wiggle against his confines. Rando chuckled and pulled the tentacle; making it tighter.
"Needless to say, I could crush you in an instant, but I'd rather test my techniques. It's been such a long time." Rando bragged as he pulled even tighter. "This thread is connected to my own energy, and no human efforts can sever it."
Yusuke grunted, "Yeah, I noticed." He panted as he kept struggling against the tentacle. "It seems kinda boring that way."
"Yes, I shall have to add more excitement." Rando agreed and started pulling Yusuke towards him. All of the sudden, he pulled up on the thread, causing Yusuke to go up in the air. Rando started spinning Yusuke in the air like a lasso, spinning him around in circles. "How's this? Better?" Kagome watched in despair as Rando slung her cousin around like a rag doll. "Is this boring you!" He pulled Yusuke into a tree. "How's this!"
"This sucks." Kagome growled, "If the outcome of this match wasn't so damn important, I'd shoot that jackass with one of my arrows. If I had them on me. Dang it." Botan put a soothing hand on her shoulder. "I feel like I'm 500 years in the past again."
"Tell me how it feels human! I'm dying to know!" Rando yelled, slamming Yusuke into the ground, once again.
"Goodness, Yusuke truly can't keep up this beating much longer." Botan turned to the psychic, ignoring Kagome's gestures to keep quiet, "Genkai! You have to do something. Rando's only going to come after you next."
"I won't. Whoever wins this fight is the one I teach, and it would be wrong to interfere with the selection." The Master stated, "I'm getting old now. My powers have to be carried forward, even if they must stay for awhile in the hands of the wicked."
"Listen to yourself! If Rando gets your techniques, there's no telling how many people he'll kill with it! Innocent lives that you will be responsible for."
"She's right, Botan." Kagome shook her head, "She made the rules. She can't break them now. It wouldn't be right. Besides, if Yusuke can't handle this type of beating, I doubt he'd be able to handle her teachings. As much as it's hurting me not to interfere right now, you have no idea, I can't. He needs to do this on his own." She smirked, "If Rando wins, and kills my cousin, then I will enjoy hunting him down myself."
"So, what, we just stand back and do nothing?" Botan asked, incredulous.
"There are things you do not understand." Genkai said, walking around the bluenette.
"Like what?"
"Progress is what must prevail. It's a story I cannot change." They watched as Rando dragged Yusuke across the ground towards a muddy lake.
"No, you're wrong." Botan said, watching the scene in despair.
"There, you see?" Rando looked down in mirth at his battered opponent, "It's amazing how indestructible these threads are." He hung Yusuke upside down in a tree and all the detective could do was glare. "So how do you feel?"
"Why do you keep asking! I'm hanging upside down from a tree! Take a guess you freak!" Yusuke exclaimed, getting frustrated.
"Ohh, hostile. We're not there yet." Rando started chanting again as he put his hands together, both index fingers pointing straight up.
Kagome's eyes widened, "This doesn't seem good, at all."
"Why do I get the feeling he's not just doing that to be cute?" Yusuke asked as the water under him started bubbling. "Hey, what's cooking?!" A huge blue fish jumped out of the water, trying to take a bite out of Yusuke. There were a bunch of dark figures swimming in a circle under him, "What the hell are those?"
"I brought them from the depths of Spirit World." Rando explained, enjoying himself, "They're called Hate Fish."
"Hate fish?" Yusuke asked.
"Yep." Kagome nodded, "Definitely some bad juju over there."
"And through another technique I've created a Trainer Demon." Rando held up a little gray demon, barely bigger than his hand, "They're controllable and very fierce. Watch!" He threw the little demon at Yusuke and it grew to normal size. Rando's eyes went white and the demon froze just before it got to Yusuke; falling straight into the water. As soon as it landed, all the Hate Fish converged like piranhas, eating the demon down to the bone. "As you can see, they're very hungry, and the demon could defend himself, imagine if he had been tied up. But enough about that, I want to try a move I learned much more recently." He put his hand in the shape of a gun at Yusuke.
"Is he fixing to do what I think he's fixing to do?" Kagome turned to Botan in question.
"How can he…" The Reaper protested, just as shocked.
Red Spirit Energy gathered at the end of Rando's finger. It flared out and shot at Yusuke. The teen barely dodged it by swinging the opposite way, still getting a thin cut on his cheek. The blast itself destroyed the tree behind him.
Rando pointed at Yusuke, who started to shake, "That's it! That's the look! You have surrendered to your fear."
"That move, he must have learned it by simply watching Yusuke perform it just once." Botan said, staring at what just happened.
"It was also several times more deadly." Genkai added, "This creature's adaptability and knowledge of the human Spirit is incredible."
"It's awful."
Genkai agreed "If he does learn my power, he will no doubt take it further than I could ever go."
"Willing to go." Kagome said, looking at the psychic, "There's a difference."
"The fear-screaming from a victims eyes. Increased power is wonderful, but it's the fear that makes me hunt. You have shown me that fear." Rando pointed his finger, gathering energy, at Yusuke again, "Now die." He fired another Spirit Gun and it hit the branch that Yusuke was hanging from, sending him straight down toward the water.
"Yusuke!" The girls screamed.
"This is dumb!" Yusuke screamed before crashing into the water.
"Yes, eat all you want my precious Hate Fish." Rando said.
"No, no, no!" Kagome shook her head, "I've lost too much, I can't loose him too!"
"It can't be… you fool!" Botan glared as she screamed, turning to Genkai, "At least pull him from the water!"
"Wait." Kagome pointed behind them, "What's that?" A wisp of blue light came out of Kuwabara and rose up.
"Huh?" Botan asked, "Who's is that?"
It flew past and went into the water, "What was that?"
"A soul."
"What?!"
A blue light of Spirit Energy erupted from the lake, "That's Yusuke's energy." Botan said as Genkai give a slight laugh, nodding.
"All he needed was a good insult." Kuwabara choked out behind them.
"Did he say insult?" Kagome looked at a smiling Genkai, "That's what happened?"
"It would seem."
When the light cleared, chunks of the Hate Fish were scattered everywhere.
"So much Spirit Power couldn't have come from that boy. His crippled friend must have transferred the last of his energy to him." Rando glared at the water, "Oh well, it matters not. Just more time to practice my favorite techniques." He raised his arm, "Though… I still love the idea of killing you with you're own attack!" He pointed his finger out at the water, and started charging up his energy. He stood there and waited for Yusuke to emerge, "Now… come out!"
Kagome just stood there with a new smile on her face as she could see in her mind what was about to happen. "Yusuke," Botan sighed, "you will have to breathe soon."
They saw some bubbles appear on one end of the muddy water, making Rando shot at out and hit it.
"Funny thing about swamps…" Yusuke voice rang out, jumping out of the water from another pond behind Rando, pointing his hand out like gun, "They're just always connected to another one!"
"Don't talk Yusuke!" Botan yelled, "Just shoot him!"
"And as for my Spirit Gun technique. You're doing it all wrong." Yusuke said, closing his eyes and charging up his energy.
"Does he have enough strength?" Botan asked, turning to the psychic.
"Oh?!" Rando asked pointing his hand at Yusuke, charging his energy.
"You hold too much back! Spirit Gun!" Yusuke shouted, shooting his Spirit Energy out, colliding with Rando's. Sparks were flying as their Spirit Energies went back and forth. Just when Rando's pulled ahead, Yusuke's shot through and hit Rando in the chest, sending the demon flying back into the water. Yusuke fell to the ground on his knees holding his wrist, exhausted, "Sure you can use it more than once. But then you lose the good old stopping power."
"Good shot!" Botan exclaimed as Kagome cheered with her.
"Do you still think I'm a fool for not taking him out of the fight?" Genkai asked, laughing.
It was bubbling where Rando went under, causing everyone to stare in shock. It started steaming and Yusuke stood up. "Give me a break!" The water evaporated, leaving Rando standing at the bottom.
"You have caused me pain. I do not like that." Rando glared before jumping out of the empty swamp and hit Yusuke across the face. He then kicked Yusuke in the stomach, followed by two more punches in the face, sending him flying to the ground. "Well, this boy's attack injured me more than I thought. I barely have the energy to destroy him." Rando commented, standing above the teen.
"Even though it looks like I can't move right now, I'm very dangerous." Yusuke muttered, making Kagome shake her head in exasperation.
"There's no point in either of us bluffing now. Both of our bodies are exhausted and our Spirits are weak. But I'll still succeed. Cause I can reduce your body and crush your puny bones just like I did with your ridiculous friend."
"We've already suffered with Kuwabara. I can't bear to watch it again." Botan cringed as Rando started chanting.
He finished chanting and everyone froze in anticipation. "Soon the world will be a much bigger place for you. And you will be afraid. I will make sure of that, even if it means ripping apart your fingers one by one. Huh?" They watched as Rando got smaller and smaller and smaller. "It's not right… how have I been the one to shrink?" Kagome, Botan and Genkai walked over and stood beside Yusuke's body.
"You're the slave of your own technique." Genkai said, looking down at the shrunken demon with a smirk.
"Yes, but how?" Botan looked at Genkai in confusion.
"It is physical law that the imbalance of matter created by that technique must be relieved. If there's no victim, then the user goes boom!"
Rando shouted up in anger, "Are you blind?! That boy was clearly my victim!"
"Yes. But his body must know that. As with any spoken chant, the victim is effected only by hearing it. In this way it enters the brain and reprograms the cells. All a reasonably intelligent fighter has to do is cover his ears." Genkai explained.
"But if I didn't know it, then how could he!" Rando exclaimed, pointing at Yusuke.
Kagome, who had bent down to check on her cousin, started laughing as she helped him stand up, "Oh, I get it." She pointed at Yusuke's head, "That's makes sense now."
"Are you okay?" Botan asked, concerned for her charge.
"Why is everything so freaking quiet?" Yusuke asked as he pulled something out of his ear. "Ahh! Swamp algae in my ears, gross."
"Swamp algae?!" Rando stared in shock.
"You know the mechanics of your stolen techniques. But without training you'll never know how to use them." Genkai spoke down at him in contempt.
"Shut up, hag!" The demon screamed, "All I have to do is reverse the chant… Ah!" He stared as Yusuke stood above him, laughing.
"Come on now. You really think I'm going to let you do that? Even at that size I don't have the energy to punch you. But I guess at this point we can let gravity take over." Yusuke chuckled and fell toward the ground. Rando yelled as he tried to run out of the way, but he could move fast enough to avoid Yusuke's elbow as it hit him in the spine. The teen rolled over onto his back and just laid there, spent. "And that, boys and girls, is my Super Elbow Drop."
"Yusuke!" Botan walked over with Kagome and dropped down next to him, "You really did it!"
"I know, but can we wait until tomorrow before we jump around all-excited like." Yusuke said, making Kagome giggle.
"Winner of the Genkai Tournament:Yusuke Urameshi!" Genkai announced, making both girls start cheering.
Kagome watch the psychic walk over to Kuwabara and infuse some yellow Spirit Energy over him, "I should take Rando back to Spirit World before he wakes up." Botan said, holding the tiny demon in her fist.
"Oh, darn," Yusuke complained, "I was really hoping I could keep him as a pet."
"And what would you do if he got bigger again?" Kagome smirked, "Do you actually think you can stop him a second time?"
"Some faith you have."
Genkai walked over, "You should take Kuwabara. Now that I've finished working on him."
"What do you mean?" Yusuke frowned, "Take him to Spirit World?"
"No, dim-wit! To his house. I've helped him make a complete recovery."
Kagome chuckled, "I can't get anywhere near that type of healing."
"It's all in the training. I will help you."
"Woah, that Spirit Wave technique sounds pretty cool." Yusuke said, impressed.
"I'm glad you approve, since you'll be training for the next six months to learn it." Yusuke stood up and stretched.
"Nah! I'll have to get back to you on that old lady! First, how 'bout my real prize? A first class ticket to Tokyo Dome!"
"Tokyo Dome?" Kagome stood up next to him, incredulous, "Is that why you agreed to come here? For tickets to the Tokyo Dome?" She smirked, "What's the show?"
"The Main Event at the World Battle Match!"
"Nice!"
"What? You still remember?" Botan asked, nervous.
"Well of course! You think all this was community service?" He exclaimed.
"Honestly, cuz." Kagome shook her head, "As awesome as that show would have been, this is a little more important, don't you think?"
"She's right." Genkai nodded, "Sorry, Yusuke, but you're not allowed to go." Genkai said, making the teen whine in protest, "The entire purpose of that tournament was to choose my student. Do you really think that after all that mess, I'd let you have a choice about it?"
He stared at her in shock, "But… my ticket."
"Yes, you'll need to have someone go in your place."
"But… the battle match…" He fell backwards, passing out.
"Yusuke." Botan sighed.
"Ugh, this is going to be a long six months." Genkai grouched.
"Maybe he can give Kuwabara the ticket." Kagome shrugged, "It'd be a nice consolation prize considering all he went through. After all, he didn't want to train to learn your technique. He came to get help with his Spirit Awareness." She turned to the psychic, "Any way you could help him with that?"
"One thing at a time. I'll send him home with some meditation tricks he can try on his own at home. Once I get you trained, maybe you can work with him yourself."
"I'd like that. Um," she shrugged, "when do you want to work with me? After your six months with Yusuke?"
"No. I will be training you alongside your cousin. The work I will be having him do is going to be quite brutal. I'm gonna go more simple with you, focusing on your healing. Lots of meditations and Reiki work. I may have you do some of the same Spirit training techniques that Yusuke will be doing, just not as hard." The psychic pondered, "You said you're not a fighter, but in this world of demons, it would be best to learn what you can. I'm going to create a basic physical regimen for you, one that will work with your body, your core and your Reiki."
"Sounds like a lot." Kagome smiled, "I'm up for the challenge."
1-2-3-4-5
"Hey, Botan?" Kagome halted the bluenette as she was about to leave on her oar.
"Yes?"
"Are you able to look up demon families?"
"Depends. What kind of demon and what family?"
"It's an older Inu demon family."
"Inu?!" Genkai turned from talking to Yusuke, "There hasn't been any Inu demons in the human realm, that I'm aware of, since the boarders went up."
The girl sighed, "Where would they have gone?"
"If they're still living, Makai. The demon world." The psychic shrugged, "If they are living in the human realm, then they're really good at hiding who they are."
"Just who are you looking for?" Botan asked, curious.
"Name of Taisho."
Silence, "What?"
"Girl. How would you know of the great Lord of the Western Lands?"
"I traveled with his half-brother in my quest to complete the Jewel." Kagome fiddled with the ring she had moved to her right hand, "My name was put in their family book."
"How is that possible? Your name would have only been added if you were mated to a member of the family."
"Technically, I am." She ignored Yusuke's gasp of shock, twisting her ring again, "We never got our tradition ceremony like I wanted, but…" she pulled the strap of her tank and showed a faded rose, in full bloom. "He died. And it disappeared. But, when I came back, it started to slowly re-blossom. It darker. At first, it was closed. But, now," she started to cry, "he's alive. I knew that there was a chance of him being reborn, if you could get enough credit. This is proof." She turned to Botan, "If you could find them, please, I need to know."
"I'll, um, talk to Koenma. Find out what I can."
"Thank you."
That's that! Lol. Let me know what you think. Also, when should Kurama find out about Kagome being Yusuke's cousin? How does she find out that Kurama is her Yoko? Any suggestions? Let me know and thank you for reading.
