Chapter 10: Unexpected Situation

*Baannng*

The door was utterly destroyed as I watched a humanoid monstrosity walk out of it as its head hung in the air. Its forehead and cheeks were filled with countless bloodshot eyeballs. Its eyes barely held in their sockets, and some eyes were torn out and were barely hanging by a thin string of flesh. The mouth no longer had lips and only had sharp, pointy teeth and bright red gums. Its body was in an extremely deformed state, with countless bones sticking out and pieces of its remaining skin barely sticking to it.

"Rraa-aa-ggg-hhhh" The vampire monster roared as it saw me.

'That thing is definitely an ultimate class!'

The monster stood there and extended its arms at me. It stretched its arms and released countless tentacles toward my body.

When I saw the tentacle arms coming at me, I rolled to the side and deflected them with my dagger.

*Ting* *Ting*

The dagger hit its arms, but it failed to penetrate them and just kept bouncing off. Seeing that it had no effect, I tried to slash it with the remaining dagger. There was no effect.

As it tried to attack me again, I blocked and countered its arm by grabbing Galatine, which I had sealed away. I rolled away from its arms once more, and it retracted the tentacles and charged at me like a raging bull in its maddening state.

"{Trigger On}"

Activating my magic circuits, I reinforced my body and dodged out of its way. It crashed into the wall behind me and turned back to do the same again.

I stood straight, positioned myself, and exploded my aura.

When the monster saw my aura, it instinctively backed up and created spears made of blood before throwing them at me. I easily deflected the spears with my holy sword and slashed the air, throwing a wave of flames in its direction.

It had no time to flee and was directly hit by the flames.

"Gyaaa…haaaa!" It screamed in pain.

Using that opportunity, I swung my sword around the house, burning away all the blood in my surroundings. Putting away my sword, I approached the monster that was still lying on the ground, rolling around in pain.

"[Dispel]"

I dismissed the flames that were burning its body, and it fell to the ground without any energy to stand anymore.

'This monster is way too weak to be an Ultimate Class? Is this a result of some abnormality?'

*Tiss*

I sensed some other aura behind me, and I instinctively grabbed my Black Keys in my sleeves and threw them behind me. When I looked back, though, there was nothing there behind me.

'Sh*t! Was it some kind of surveillance magic? Then does that mean the culprit watched the whole battle without me realizing!'

I closed my eyes and tried to pinpoint that aura again, but by this time it had already disappeared. This caused me to visibly sigh in frustration. The only saving grace here was that the watcher didn't see me use my eyes or any of my other abilities. The only thing they saw was my holy sword, and I wasn't even using it at full power.

I focused back on the collapsed monster and wondered what I should do now. Should I capture it or exorcise it?

'No, I should just put it out of its misery'

I kneeled down, put my palm over its chest, and started the Baptism Rite.

"Let me inform you;

I will kill. I will let live. I will harm and I will heal."

The whole area started to glow, and a myriad of lights peered through the opening of the roof.

"None shall escape my grasp. None shall escape my sight.

Be crushed.

I welcome those who have grown old and those who have lost.

Devote yourself to me, learn from me, and obey me.

Rest. Do not forget song, do not forget prayer, and do not forget me.

I am light and relieve you of all your burdens."

"Raaagghh!" The monster screamed in agony.

"Do not pretend. Retribution for forgiveness, betrayal for trust, despair for hope, darkness for light, dark death for the living."

"Gyaaah! H...hum...annn!" It yelled in a frenzy.

"Relief is in my hands. I will add oil to your sins and leave a mark.

Eternal life is given through death.

— Ask for forgiveness here. I, the incarnation, will swear."

Taking away my hand, I finished, "— Kyrie eleison."

The monster disintegrated and slowly vanished into the air as the exorcism ended.

'Now I should probably investigate this mansion before I leave'

That's exactly what I did. I walked around the mansion, but I didn't really find anything noteworthy except the existence of a basement, which I still hadn't checked yet.

There was a trap door hidden in one of the study rooms on the first floor, which opened up to a staircase leading down.

I took a mini flashlight that I had in one of my pockets and headed down into the basement. The basement was quite deep, and the staircase led down for quite a while before I finally reached the lower level.

The basement was a pretty decent size, almost the size of an average apartment at about 700 sq ft. I used my flashlight to point it around, trying to make sense of what was in the dark basement.

The sight that I saw made me flinch in disgust. I, who had grown numb over the act of killing, found this absolutely repulsive.

This place resembled a research laboratory mixed with a torture chamber. There were multiple bodies lying all over the room in different sickening circumstances. Some were on stretchers with their insides open, and some hung on the ceiling with their bodies completely wrecked and limbs barely attached to their bodies. Many empty tubes and torture tools were also on the shelf in the corner, almost as if they were there as a display.

Looking at all this just made my brain hurt. Even the experience of hunting down strays and vampires all these years didn't prepare me for this situation. I had never seen something this gruesome in this life or my previous life.

Suppressing my revulsion I looked around the room for clues as to what might have happened here. Unfortunately, there didn't really seem to be many clues other than the bodies lying around.

So I went to check on the bodies that were lying around. Looking around, I did manage to identify some of the bodies because their faces resembled the people who had gone missing these past weeks.

Waking up to one body, I placed my hand on it and activated my magic circuit.

"{Trigger On}"

I poured my prana into the body I was touching and circulated it through the person's body. Since I didn't have any spell to exactly and accurately analyze a person's body, I just had to rely on this crude method. I just let my prana flow through the other person to detect if there is some kind of abnormality.

My prana, which was supposed to flow through the entire body, suddenly stopped around the heart. Some kind of foreign magical energy that wasn't a natural part of the body was causing some kind of irregularity in the person's body.

The foreign energy is probably the cause of these vampires and other people turning into monsters. The only conclusion I could reach was that this is most likely an experiment of some sort to test something out. But that just brought a whole lot more questions to my mind.

With all these thoughts running through my mind, I checked all the other bodies as well, and the result was the same. There was something that kept bothering me as I encountered this foreign energy because it felt somewhat familiar.

That's right. It felt familiar because it weirdly reminded me of a Sacred Gear.

Usually, Sacred Gears give off some sort of unique energy, but it is only slight and very hard to differentiate. The only reason I was able to tell the difference was because I was extremely sensitive to prana. It isn't something I can fully explain to someone who doesn't have it, but most of the time I can just feel changes in my surroundings through my skin.

I lingered in the basement, thinking for a while before deciding to dispose of this scene. I had found everything I wanted, so I should just clean everything up. Firing up my magic circuits once again I chanted.

"Vanish, you of the fallen.

It is impossible to touch things that are not visible.

Forget the darkness.

It is impossible to see things which are not touched.

With my beliefs alone may everything return to ashes once again - - -"

"Sea of Conflagration" At my words, fire combusted, and everything started to burn. I immediately left the basement and ran outside the mansion to avoid the flames.

The flaming ashes rose slowly, transforming into a massive scorching inferno. The mansion was completely annihilated in just a few minutes, and everything was pretty much scorched to the ground.

Snapping my fingers, I dispelled the raging flames in an instant. The fire that was about to spread just completely disappeared, leaving only the ashes of the previous mansion on the ground.

After making sure that everything was properly disposed of, I swiftly walked out of the compound, hid my presence, and headed back to the church.

The walk to the church wasn't long, and when I made it there, I knocked on the door. It took a minute, but the door opened and Sister Madalina welcomed me inside.

"It's been almost two hours; did something happen?" She inquired worriedly.

"Well, I may have run into some minor trouble, but I already took care of it."

"I see that's good then."

"So did the guy wake up?"

"Yes, he woke up half an hour ago, and I informed him that you saved his life."

"Okay, Thanks you for your help. I'll go check on her then."

"There's no need to thank me, it's only natural to help those in trouble."

"Is that so?" I answered in slight amusement.

Walking into the room from the back, I saw a person with multiple bandages wrapped around their body lying awake on the bed. He had brown hair and reddish eyes with a skinny physique. As he saw me come in he turned his neck to get a look at me.

"A-are you the one who helped me?" He asked in a quiet voice.

"Yes, it's me... So, I'll have to ask you some important questions; are you up to it?"

"Right, I'll tell you what I know." He slowly nodded her head.

"I'll just ask this straight up: who is the one who did this to you? And for what reason?"

"It's those vampires, I believe they called themselves Tepes. They are kidnapping a variety of people including everyone of their kind, to test some kind of power. They captured me, but I somehow managed to escape, but I was severely injured in the process."

"Power? Do you happen to have an idea of what kind of power was being tested?"

"I don't exactly know, but it seems to be something that increases one's power, which ended up turning the people into monsters."

That's when it hit me. This was probably related to that Vampire Civil War that was supposed to happen in the future. Even though I only had limited information about it, I clearly remember that it was hinted that Rizevim, who had already obtained a part of the Holy Grail, used it to experiment on vampires by making them go through modifications.

"I see, so what's your name? Are you a magician?"

"Umm… my name is Sieg, and I'm just a novice magician."

"Hmm…I see"

My face didn't show anything on the outside but I was dying on the inside. That name was something I remembered quite well. Now that I look at him again he even resembles that character quite a lot.

It was in Fate/Apocrypha manga that I read just before dying. The protagonist in that series was a homunculus who inherited a hero's power and fought for his friends. That's what made me freak out a bit on the inside.

I wondered if this world was some kind of AU world where certain elements from Fate just got mixed up here. I knew there wasn't any kind of Mages' Association and no one could use magecraft, so that was the only conclusion I could come up with.

"How about you rest up for now and we can talk later." I forced a smile at him while hiding my thoughts.

"Ah, yes, I wanted to thank you for saving me. I am really grateful." He tried to get up from the bed to thank me.

"No problem, I was just doing my job. Just get some rest right now." I persuaded him to stop moving.

I slowly strode out of the room and sat on one of the benches in the church. My hands were supporting my head, and I sighed in agony.

'I definitely didn't expect to meet him here. What the hell should I do now?'

I was stuck and had absolutely no answers. I don't know who was the culprit watching me, and I also don't know how the hell Sieg is here. Still, if he is like anything like his other self then I can make a good ally. Banishing my thoughts I decided to take a small nap on the bench to calm my nerves.

It seems like a storm is coming, and I don't want any part in it.
