Chapter 11: A New Conflict
A couple days passed with nothing major happening. There were no more people who had gone missing, and I couldn't sense any suspicious activity happening anywhere nearby.
Sieg, who was injured, completely passed out after speaking to me that day. He woke up a couple times in between, and I tried to get more specific information out of him, but that was useless. I found out that he had some gaps in his memory that prevented him from remembering the specifics. He could only tell me the overall major events that he saw and didn't know any of the specifics, including how he ended up in that state.
What most surprised me this morning was when I heard a loud noise in the room where Sieg was resting. I went to check on him and came upon a rather pitiful scene. Sieg, who was covered in bandages, was trying to walk out of the room while holding the wall.
"Hey, what are you even doing?"
I walked into the room and grabbed the young man to keep him from collapsing.
"I-I remember… I remember them," he desperately uttered with a panicked face.
"Who?"
"My friend… they were imprisoned in the castle... they helped me in escape."
He said that he collapsed on the floor with tears in his eyes. It seemed that he had regained a part of his memory that had been suppressed.
"Okay, okay, calm down and explain."
Asking him to calm down, I lifted him up by the shoulder and placed him back on the bed. Sieg sat there for a few minutes, huffing and puffing, before he calmed down.
"I-I wasn't originally from that mansion with the experiment. I was born in a small town, but I was abducted by the Tepes and imprisoned underground with many others to be used as vampire food at some point."
"Wait, then how did you end up here then?"
"It was because my friend Silvelt helped me escape the castle, but when I was on the run, I was captured again and sent here."
"Hmm…" I could only nod my head and grimace at this story.
"I-I've got to save him and the others as well." Sieg once again started to try and get up.
"No, you're staying here." I had him down with one arm on his shoulder.
"But they are all suffering. They helped someone like me live, so I'll definitely help them." He stated this with a determined look on his face.
"Nope, I'm not listening to you. Even if you go out, you won't be able to do anything in your condition."
"Then what do I do?! I know I don't have the power to save anyone, but I can't just do nothing!"
"If you can't do it by yourself, then ask for help."
"What?" Sieg looked stunned at what I said.
"Not everything in the world is solved by your own strength; sometimes you need to be smart enough to ask others for help."
"Wait! does that mean?!" Sieg realized what I was saying.
He calmed down and looked straight at me before bowing his head and screaming out his request. "Can you please help me save my friends!"
"Sure, I'm not bad enough to ignore someone in front of me," I replied to his heartfelt request.
' Even if I say that, it's not like I'm some saint who helps everyone in need. I definitely hate troublesome things, and that is a major part of my personality. But just because I hate trouble doesn't mean I'm a coward who just ignores people in front of me. At the end of the day I still consider myself an average guy who was given power that can match those of the strong'
Hearing my response, Sieg starts tearing up at my response and gives me a grateful smile.
"Then, let's get you healed up as fast as I can."
"Yes!"
Vampires like these are creatures of darkness that have existed since ancient times. They have similar power rankings, weaknesses, and a long life span, just like the Devils. However, vampires inhabit the darkness in the human world while the Devils reside in the darkness of the Underworld. They mainly used blood shadow magic, and a major weakness for them is their strong fear and hatred towards werewolves since they happen to be their natural enemies.
The Vampires are a race that is way more prideful and aloof than even the Devils. The Devils used to be similar, but in more modern times after the Civil War, they completely changed. But the vampires had no such thing, and they remained as they were throughout the centuries. Their pride is so high that they even discriminate against those among their own kind and treat them akin to slaves. This immense pride and instinct also led them to hunt humans as a food source. They will hunt them down, capture them, and use them for both pleasure and food.
Hundreds of years ago, there was a conflict among their kind that literally split them into two groups. It was a conflict over whether the female or male ancestor should be the leader and who could better retain the purity of the pure-blooded nobles. This disagreement turned into immense conflict and hatred that turned into the Tepes Faction and the Carmilla Faction. The Tepes was a male-dominated faction, while the Carmilla was a female-dominated faction.
That's the basic history behind what I learned from my education in the Church.
If I recall correctly from the wiki pages I accidentally stumbled on in my previous life, there was a Dhampir who was half human and half vampire and who held the Sephiroth Graal. It was a Sacred Gear that was literally a cheat that could heal, revive people, and eliminate a person's weakness. At this time, that girl should be trapped in a castle and experimented on. The experiments in the dungeon I saw before were most likely caused by a piece of this Sacred Gear. So, with all that in mind, I decided on an important decision that may very well screw over my desire for a peaceful life.
All the begging and tear-filled eyes of Sieg made me give in, and I agreed to let him go with me. I couldn't really fully heal him since it wasn't really my forte but I did manage to heal him to the point that he can fight again.
That's what happened before we ended up going towards the Tepes main base with the help of my guide Sieg.
We left the city and ended up traveling quite a few kilometers to a location where I didn't expect civilization to exist. The only downside to this journey was that it was an extremely slow process. The main reason for that was because, throughout this excursion, my guide had a specific problem that made everything a lot harder. It was the fact that he didn't remember the exact location and could only give vague directions based on his feelings. It was a pain to walk around without knowing a specific location, but we somehow did make lots of progress.
Still, unlike my imagination, nothing really noteworthy happened on this trip, and it was just a boring old investigation to find the enemy's location. From the road, a small path leads towards a small town and, finally, a large compound with multiple mansions. This was most certainly what we were looking for due to the amount of magical energy I can feel radiating out of the territory.
Of course, we didn't just walk in there openly, but rather, I cast my own specialized pseudo mini bounded field that covered my and my partner's bodies, which concealed our presence and blended in with our surroundings.
"Sir Tristan, how do we infiltrate the castle?" Sieg asked me grimly.
"Just like how we came here. Slowly find space between their defenses and infiltrate without them noticing…" I whispered back.
"But we've been sitting here for hours doing absolutely nothing."
"It's not like I haven't been doing anything. In fact, the reason we've been circling around this territory is to scout out everything inside"
"Huh? How would you do that?"
"I'm sending little, almost unnoticeable waves of magical energy into the ground and letting it bounce back to see where everything is located and where all the combatants are located."
"I sensed you doing that, but I didn't realize that this is what you were doing," He gasped in surprise.
"There's a barrier around this entire territory, and it's hard for me to sense anything, so this is all I can do right now," I said, closing my eyes and going back to what I was doing.
"Have you found everything now then?" He asked out of curiosity.
"Yes, I've figured out the layout of this place and figured out where the basement is located." I spoke as I stared at Sieg's resolute face.
After mapping out everything I needed, including even the power levels of people I could sense, the strongest person I found in the entire compound was a mid-Ultimate-class being who was mostly like King Tepes or his subordinate. The only problematic thing here would be their absurd regeneration and shadow manipulation, but I should be able to easily counter them with my eyes.
Pointing in a direction, I told him, "The basement is located behind that building on the right, so as soon as I break this barrier, you're going to hide and sneak in there to rescue them, alright?"
"Then, you?!"
"As soon as I break this barrier, they'll surely notice, so I'll pull as much aggro on me as possible. You should just follow what I say…Do you understand?" I looked him in the eye as my usual neutral face turned serious.
If I were to break the barrier and break into the castle, surely they would be enraged. I just want to concentrate most of their power on me so that my partner can sneak underground while protected by my bounded field and use his magic to let everyone out.I know that this plan has many things that could go wrong, and they probably will, but I think it's the best I can do now. Since I couldn't ask the Church or anybody else for help, this was the only plan my mind could come up with on the spot.
"Yes, Sir"
"As soon as I give you a signal, you go."
"Hmm…what signal?"
"Don't worry about it, you'll know when you see it." I nodded at him before leaving him behind.
*Crash*
The barrier surrounding the territory fell apart like glass as it broke and dissipated into thin air.
With my Mystic Eyes open, I broke through the defenses and calmly walked inside like nothing was wrong. I heard multiple sounds coming from inside the buildings, and hordes of armed soldiers came running in my direction.
"Yo, how are you guys doing?" I waved my hands as I smirked at the incoming enemies.
"WHO ARE YOU? HOW DARE YOU BREAK INTO THIS ESTEEMED TERRITORY!" The frontmost vampire, who seemed like a noble, shouted.
"Me? I just came here to hang with you guys."
"KILL THIS INSOLENT HUMAN WHO INVADED OUR TERRITORY!" the noble yelled again, ignoring what I said.
"Oi, oi, I'm trying to talk here," I teased further.
Just as I finished that, I saw that multiple people, both on the ground and in the air, launched magic at me. Hundreds of blood spears flew towards me, but I was unafraid.
"{Trigger On}"
I calmly reinforced my body and grabbed the Black Keys from my sleeves, outfitting them in between my fingers in a Wolverine fashion.
*Boom*
"Hahaha... that's what happens when you mess with us." The nobleman who stood behind the soldiers smirked as he saw my predicament.
*Swish*
*Crash*
*Swoosh*
All the blood spears that were about to hit suddenly disappeared, and absolutely nothing happened.
"Huh, what happened?" I heard a random soldier mutter.
What happened was that I cut down all the spears using my eyes and my reinforced speed; it almost looked like everything suddenly disappeared.
"Is that all you can do?" I taunted them with an evil grin displayed on my face.
"Shut up, you damn human! I'll show you not to mess with the heir of Manthar House." A vampire screamed, his face turning red.
"Stop that childish rambling and come at me…"
"[Furvus]"
He launched his magic at my provocation.
"Kukuku… Let's dance, shall we?" Looking at the magic approaching me, I let out an evil laugh.
'That was absolutely something I wanted to say once in my life.'
