Women Of Wonder
By Michael Weyer
I know, a few other fics but once more, this hit me out of the blue as just one of the most perfect to use. It was going to be another "Counterpart Conferences" tale but again built into something else so expanding it to some fun. All comments welcomed.
Earth-76
June, 1943
As the light faded from around her, Diana of Themyscrai blinked. It wasn't her first experience with some bizarre portal yet this felt a bit different than usual. She glanced about swiftly, taking in the scene around her. She was on a city street and between the old-fashioned cars and the clothing of the people around her, this was decidedly not her time. Obviously, Cronos' portal had indeed deposited her in what appeared to be the 1940s.
Wonder Woman let out a sigh. She'd suspected this "Challenge of the Gods" Hera had proposed was not going to be a good thing. Yet, like the rest of the League (she still thought of it as just that despite how some kept insisting on calling it "Justice league Unlimited") she was attempting to discover just what was behind the "Grand Dusting" as the media called it. It had been a chaotic event, more so with Superman and Batman both among those taken. Even after those lost were restored, it was important to find out what caused it in case it happened again.
Diana wasn't alone as Batman was on some quest of his own involving the multiverse (as usual, he refused to go into details) and the magical members were using their own skills as well. Even the Gods of Olympus had been affected which frankly terrified Diana. This quest seemed a good idea at first…but she was now wondering given her circumstances.
She realized the stares she was getting and knew getting off the streets was an important thing. That was when she heard the crash of a truck and the sound of gunfire. Instinct took over as Diana began racing across the streets to the source of the conflict. She saw what appeared to be a military truck lying on its side with several men in black uniforms and masks approaching it. A handsome man in the uniform of a United States colonel was with a pair of soldiers, exchanging gunfire with the attackers.
Wonder Woman charged in, leaping to grab one of the gunmen and toss him aside. The others turned to fire and Diana easily deflected their bullets off her bracelets. In a blur, her golden lasso was out and wrapping around one gunman, yanking him off his feet. Diana punched him out with ease then tossed him against another man. The other attacker was too distracted to avoid the burst of gunfire from a soldier that cut him down. The last one took one look at Diana, then the soldiers and wisely fell to his knees in surrender.
As she wrapped the lasso around her waist, Diana saw the men coming up to her and sighed. This was going to be quite complicated, she knew. In WWII, there were no regular super-heroes like her around. She knew it would be a flood of questions on who she was, where she came from, her powers….
"Wonder Woman!" the colonel said with a bright smile. "As usual, you show up right where I need you!" He laughed. "I keep telling folks it's like you're my guardian angel."
Diana blinked at how the man seemed to recognize her. She glanced around to see the onlookers also applauding with a few cheering her name. In her experiences, Diana had learned the best thing to do in a situation like this was to simply play along until she could figure out just what things were like. "Simply doing my part as ever."
"Well, a good thing you came along," the man was saying, waving at the truck. "If these agents had gotten their hands on this material, I'd hate to think what would have happened." He dropped his voice. "Even I don't know what it's about but tied in to some secret project in the desert."
Diana was nodding even as she tried to wrap her head around this situation. The fact that people were taking her appearance in stride was one thing but this man seeming to know her was something else. Before she could speak, a voice called out, "Steve!" Both turned to see a pair of women coming up. One was in a brown uniform, a short woman with light hair and a chipper smile. The other was dressed in the uniform of a yeoman, her black hair in a bun under her cap and a pair of eyeglasses on her attractive face. Diana couldn't help noticing that this woman was staring at her with a much different expression than others. It was a combination of shock, confusion and suspicion that instantly made her alert.
"Diana, Etta, I'm fine," the man called Steve said. "Thanks to Wonder Woman." He nodded to her as Wonder Woman had to fight to hide her reaction to the name of Diana. This other woman looked at her with great interest that made Wonder Woman feel a bit uncomfortable.
"Are you sure you're all right?" Etta asked. "That looked dangerous."
"I've been through worse," Steve intoned. He smiled again at Wonder Woman. "I'm impressed, you usually don't go so intense in a fight."
"Different tactics for different occasions," Wonder Woman replied.
"Steve," this Diana spoke up. "I think Wonder Woman and I can catch up on things while you handle the clean-up."
Steve seemed startled but nodded. "Yes, that sounds good."
Diana looked to Wonder Woman. "Well...I suppose we need to have a talk….Wonder Woman." She motioned as the costumed woman followed. Etta watched them go and then let out a chuckle. "What is it?" Steve Trevor asked.
"It's…nothing." Under his look, Etta shrugged. "Okay, this is going to sound crazy but…there was a brief time when I had this wild suspicion that…well…."
"Diana was Wonder Woman?" At Etta's surprise, Steve shrugged. "I get it. I had the odd feeling too."
"I mean, they both have black hair, kind of the same build…"
"Diana never around when Wonder Woman is," Steve added.
"But now…" Etta waved at the direction the two women had gone. "I mean…Diana is an amazing woman, a great friend but…"
"But there's only one Wonder Woman," Steve chuckled.
"I mean, come on, they don't even look alike!" The two laughed as they headed to talk to the coming police.
Wonder Woman felt herself on alert as Diana led her into an alleyway. As soon as she was sure they were out of sight, Diana whirled, her expression hard. "Who are you?" she barked.
Wonder Woman cocked her head. "I think that should be obvious."
"Except I know for a fact you're not Wonder Woman."
She raised an eyebrow. "And...just how do you know that...Diana?"
Diana's eyes narrowed. "Fine." She reached up to pull off her glasses and began to spin on her heel. Her cap flew off as her hair became loose from the bun. A blast of light erupted from her body to briefly blind Wonder Woman. As it faded, the woman was now dressed in a near copy of Diana's uniform complete with bracelets and the tiara in her hair. The only difference was that the gold chest design resembled eagle's wings rather than a "W" logo.
As she took in another version of herself brimming with power, one thought came to Diana's mind: I am never mocking Clark for the glasses again.
Before she could react, this other Wonder Woman had tossed a familiar lasso around Diana and tightened it. "All right," Prince stated. "You will tell me who you are."
Diana winced as she felt the compulsion to tell the truth washing over her. It struck her the lasso was a bit different than her own as it was more commanding than just making one tell the truth. "Diana of Themscyria," she intoned.
Prince blinked. It wasn't just Diana's words but that they were in a dialect of Greek that hadn't been spoken in Man's World in over two thousand years. "How…?"
"I believe I understand what's happening," Diana stated. "If you can just let me go and we can…discuss this in another setting?"
Prince was still suspicious as Diana sighed. "Listen…Diana…I mean you no harm. Or anyone else here." She nodded to the lasso. "You know I'm telling the truth."
Prince seemed confused but still loosened the lasso. She looked Diana over and shook her head. "I think it will be a bit conspicuous with you going around as…that. And forget two of us."
Diana smiled. "Well…I have an idea on that…"
"This is not going to work."
"Trust me, it will work"
"People are not so oblivious."
"You're honestly going to say that? Really?"
Yeoman Diana Prince shook her head at the woman in the prim suit by her side. She had her blonde hair done under a nice cap with a light smile on her face. Her walk was light with her heels and the suit doing little to hide her beauty. Prince saw Steve coming up, looking over some folders. "Oh, Diana, was Wonder Woman all right?"
"Yes, she was," Prince replied in her crisp tone, all business in her uniform. "She did have to dash off but indicated she is tracking more about the group involved in today's attack."
"It sounds like a local band of crooks hired by a mystery party," Steve stated. "My guess is they had no idea they were working for a Nazi agent." He looked to the blonde-haired woman. "I'm sorry, I don't believe we've met."
"Ah, Steve, yes, this is my cousin, Donna," Prince saved. "She was making a quick stop in Washington and decided to surprise me."
"Well, a pleasure to meet you," Steve said, shaking the blonde-haired woman's hand. "Aside from Drusilla, I haven't met any of Diana's family before."
"Her mother…doesn't leave home much," "Donna" replied in a smooth tone with a slight British accent to it. "Don't worry, I won't be too long."
Steve nodded. "I need to meet with the police to interrogate those men, I'll check with you later, Diana." He headed off as Prince watched him leave then looked at Diana in wonder. Under her wig, Diana smirked. "I told you."
Prince shook her head as they entered her office. "It's still amazing…"
"I've learned it's incredibly easy how just a small alteration to your look is a perfect disguise," Diana smiled as they entered a small office. "I've tried to the blonde hair on my Earth and yes, I was just as amazed it worked out."
"Hmmm…" Prince mused as she locked the door behind her. "Something to think about." She smiled. "I should thank you. Your appearing beside me goes a long way toward defusing any suspicions Steve or others might have had about me."
"Maybe not too much," Diana stated. "It's like with Clark. Folks barely think of Superman even having another identity so who's going to look for a simple reporter?" She shrugged. "I have it a little trickier as I'm more public but people can still miss me in a crowd."
"Exactly!" Prince said. "It's why I take on this identity, to understand people more and fit in. Drusilla took a bit to understand that."
Diana frowned. "Who's Drusilla?"
"My sister."
"Really? Hmmm, she's Donna on my Earth, why I chose it as an alias."
Prince shook her head. "I still have trouble accepting this. Another Earth?"
"It happens," Diana said. "I've met another like us." Her face soured. "It…was not pleasant." She saw Prince's puzzled look and sighed. "Suffice to say, on that world…she had turned to darkness. She and the rest of the heroes became obsessed with imposing order but went too far. She became a tyrant, not a champion of peace." She brushed back her hair. "It was…a look at the kind of person I could become if I lost faith in the Gods."
Prince was quiet. "On your world…in your future…"
"The Allies win," Diana assured her. "Admittedly, this isn't my world so I can't say for sure it'll be the same…But there is a good chance of it."
Prince placed her cap down to face her. "Why are you here?"
"I suspect one of the games of the Gods," Diana replied as she slid the wig off to let her black hair fall out. "Be grateful you avoid them as much."
"Well, I was pushed by them to take part in the contest to become Wonder Woman," Prince replied.
"A contest?" Diana raised her eyebrows. "I just stole the armor to help against an alien invasion."
Prince shook her head. "It's still a lot to take in. Not the least of which is your talk on various other super-heroes."
"Again, clear differences between our realities," Diana noted. "Even on my Earth, it took decades for some to show up." She leaned in her chair as she looked the other Diana over. "It's…hard, isn't it? To be in this world, that we read so much about and yet…"
"Yet really being in it is a lot," Prince agreed. "Mother always warned me of her experiences in Man's World and its cruelty. I know she had her horrible experience with Herakles…" She saw Diana's wince. "Ah, yours too."
"Mother can be…difficult," Diana allowed. "She had to banish me once."
Prince blinked. "Why?"
"I saved Paradise Island and all of them."
"That…makes no sense."
"I had to bring men there to do it."
"Oh, no, they still uphold that silly old rule there? At least my mother realized a man coming to the island was not a sign of doom. Well, there was the odd Nazi invasion but she understood that was hardly my fault…"
Diana raised an eyebrow. "Clearly, we have some fascinating tales to share." She studied Prince carefully. "I must admit I'm a bit surprised you're stateside. With your powers and abilities, you could be at the front lines, smashing up the German war machine."
"Oh, I've been asked that a few times by some…rather strident generals," Prince answered. "But I remind them that I'm not a soldier. I'm trying to bring peace, not just add to the war."
"I understand that," Diana assured her. "I do the same thing. The media insists I'm a 'super-hero' but I still try to be an ambassador for peace." She sighed. "It's just so difficult, The world was so more complex than I thought it would be even in my studies." She smiled at Diana. "Believe me, there are technologies and changes coming that will be amazing."
Prince rubbed her chin. "It also doesn't help there are so many…issues." She waved a hand around as if indicating the entire office. "This nation claims to be fighting tyranny and hate but they won't give people equal rights because of the color of their skin? Not to mention the gender issue..."
"It gets better," Diana quickly assured her. "It won't be easy, it won't be quick and it won't be perfect but…it does get better." She leaned forward. "Diana…I can tell there are a lot of differences between us but I do think one key thing the same is that we don't lose sight of a better world before us. That version of ourselves I told you about? She did that. She thought humanity could never improve on its own unless she forced them to and disgraced all we stood for." She leaned forward, putting her hand on the other Diana's. "I admit, there are times I've had my faith shaken. When I think about being far strident. But I remember how Mother warned us the dangers of that path."
"She does the same with me," Prince mused. "And I have seen the hard part of humanity. Yet I also see the good part, the people willing to fight against all odds no matter what." She made a rueful smile. "Plus how several women are nowhere near as good as I would hope."
"I've learned that one the hard way." Diana noted. "There was an Amazon from my own Earth, Aresia. She took the wrong lessons of history to believe men were the cause of all of the world's ills. She fell into darkness as well, thinking all men should be wiped out and tried to unleash a plague upon the Earth." Diana sighed. "That was something Mother could forget, that often the problems with criminals or dictators or the like is not that they're men…but because they're human."
"Yet men are good," Prince pressed. "I've learned that with Steve."
Diana smiled. "Yes…I can tell that." She saw a light blush come to Prince's cheeks and giggled. "Oh, I know how it is. You can read all you want on men and romance and coupling but actually close to one…"
"He's….it's complex," Prince said. "Frankly, I think he's more infatuated with Wonder Woman than myself."
"Clark thought the same with Lois," Diana mused. "Yet they're now together and it's clear it's him she loves, not Superman." She looked to Prince. "I know what you're thinking. Even if you take a chance and it works…you're still going to be young and beautiful decades from now while he's older. It's a sad reality of who we are." She leaned in. "But that doesn't mean it's not worth taking a chance on."
Prince raised an eyebrow. "And have you…taken that chance?"
Diana sighed. "Let's just say, the one I am attracted to is a…complex individual."
Prince smirked. "You're avoiding the question."
Diana waved a hand. "Suffice to say, we have our...issues." She looked back at Prince. "Yet I trust him with my life. Which I believe you will with Steve."
Prince smiled. "It is fascinating. We have to talk more and…" Her words were interrupted by a whipping wind. The two women turned to see a glowing portal slowly shimmer to life. Diana rose to her feet and sighed. "I think that's for me."
Prince frowned. "The Gods had you come…just to talk to me?"
"File it under 'work in mysterious ways'," Diana shrugged. She looked to her other self and smiled softly. "It was…good to meet you, Diana."
"And you as well…Diana." Impulsively, Prince moved to embrace the younger woman, who returned it. After a pause, Diana headed into the portal. It winked behind her, leaving the other Wonder Woman to marvel at the unique discussion she just had.
March, 1976
With the clicking of high heels, Agent Diana Prince entered the main offices of the Inter-Agency Defense Command. She was dressed in a light pair of slacks and a sweater to combat the chill of the Washington D.C. spring. As she passed the large compute banks, she found herself marveling yet again at the changes in technology in only thirty years. It made her wonder at how different this world could be in just a few more decades.
She entered the main briefing room to see Steve Trevor Jr. standing near a console in his light suit. He remained the spitting image of his father in every way, right down to that bright smile that was on display as he was chatting to a familiar blonde-haired woman dressed in simple jeans and a light blouse. "Diana!" Steve welcomed her. "You remember Jamie Sommers?"
"I can hardly forget," Diana said, her eyes twinkling behind her glasses. She shook hands with the other woman, noting once more the weight to one arm of the athletic figure. "Wonder Woman was telling me about your adventures against that alliance of Fembots and Nazis."
"It's why I'm here," Jamie stated. "It seems we've gotten reports of Dr. Cyber still being alive."
"How?" Diana asked with surprise. "I was sure she was dead."
"Well, only brief eyewitness accounts but how many women with half a metallic face can there be running around?" Jamie answered. "And she's partnered with someone I think you know." She handed over a folder and Diana opened it to see photos of a figure inside of a museum. It appeared to be a woman but with cat-like fur, features and even a tail.
Diana let out a sigh. "Barbara Minerva. She was an archeologist who became jealous of Wonder Woman. Somehow, she was transformed into this cat-like creature." She looked at Steve. "I thought she was still in jail."
"Broke out a week ago, apparently by Cyber," Steve said. "What they want in that museum is a mystery."
"But it may be tied in to a series of robberies that have been taking place in the last few weeks," Jamie stated. "A lot of high-tech equipment and notable in that the thieves were all women boasting enhanced strength."
"The Fembots?" Diana asked as Jamie nodded, clearly not happy at the idea of clashing once more with the lifelike female androids.
"We've been scoping out possible targets," Steve said. "You two should check out one, a lab on the outskirts of D.C. They're involved in some experiments involving teleportation. It's still in the early stages but the idea of being able to send equipment miles away in an eyeblink is very tempting."
"Not to mention dangerous," Jamie replied.
"Diana?" The trio turned to see a lovely blonde-haired woman in a nice outfit that looked a bit old-styled stepping into the room. Diana's face broke into a huge smile. "You." She moved to embrace the woman. "Good to see you again…Donna."
"And you," the other Diana smiled. She started at the sight of Steve as Prince waved. "Ah, Steve Trevor Jr, my..cousin, Donna." Steve nodded as they shook hands. "And this is Jamie Sommers," Prince waved to the other woman.
"I had…just arrived in town and thought I'd look you up," "Donna" replied. "Took a bit to track you down but surprisingly only one Diana Prince in D.C."
"We can catch up as we head out," Prince said as they headed out. Jamie hung back to gather up the folders and check with Steve. "Donna" looked back before dropping her voice. "He looks…"
"I know," Prince nodded. "I can't get over it either."
Diana narrowed her eyes. "Are you and he…"
Prince chuckled. "No. Not, just friends, his father was…" She smiled softly. "Special."
Diana noted the past tense. "Did you ever tell him?"
Prince nodded. "Shortly after the war ended. I decided with it over, my time in this world was over as well and to return home. I told him…" She laughed. "And it turned out he'd half-suspected the entire time. We had…one night." She smiled softly. "But it was a good one."
"I'm glad," Diana smiled back. "Before you ask, I just popped back here a half-hour ago. One moment with you in 1943, then on a street corner right in front of a newsstand to let me know when I was. It appears the Gods still have an odd plan in mind for us."
"That is interesting," Prince mused. "Any ideas on what it could be?"
"As with so many things with the Gods, it's never as obvious as it may seem," Diana answered. "Perhaps that earlier meeting was to...break the ice as it were, so this encounter wouldn't be as awkward. Or perhaps a reason we have yet to determine." She saw Jamie coming up to join them. "I suppose I could help you out on this one…"
"It sounds like you have some...catching up to do," Jamie replied. "Sorry, couldn't help catching some of it." She glanced to Diana with a smile. "Interesting hearing someone talking about plans of Gods and such..."
"Our family is very old," Diana dryly brushed off.
Jamie smiled as they walked out of the office. "Ah, I knew it. You're one of Diana's 'sisters'." At Diana's surprised look, Jamie nodded. "It's okay. I know. I've even been to Paradise Island." She waved at Prince. "And come…the glasses are a lame disguise, I can't believe she pulls it off."
"You would be very surprised," Diana dryly said.
The drive to the lab wasn't too far and Jamie noticed how "Donna" was spending the drive looking at the city around her. "First time in D.C.?"
"Oh, no, just been a while," she said. She glanced at Jamie. "I assume you're a…secret agent as well?"
"It's complicated," Jamie replied. "I'm actually more a teacher, this is a…side job, you can say."
"A side job that took you to our island? Where I assume you did more than just some teaching."
"Don't worry," Prince stated as they pulled up to the lab. "If things go wrong, Jamie is quite capable." The lab appeared to be a nondescript simple white building but Diana had learned over the years to never judge by such appearances. They were walking forward when Jamie suddenly paused. She brushed her hair back, cocking her head as if listening to something. "I think something's wrong…."
Prince frowned. "How?"
"I don't know…but sounds like someone moving a lot of equipment in there. Plus, an alarm seemed to be going off but now cut short." Jamie looked around carefully. "Maybe we should handle this going in different ways." She craned her head to the roof thirty feet above as if trying to calculate something. Diana was frowning now. "I'm sorry but what do you expect to do besides…"
Bending her knees, Jamie leaped upward. A sound as if mechanical servos activating echoed as she sailed through the air, easily clearing the roof to land atop it.
"Break the Olympic record for the high jump," Diana finished in a distracted voice. She looked at Prince who smiled. "Let's just say Jamie has her own unique set of skills." She was removing her glasses only for Diana to hold up a hand. "No. Let me, help with the identity again." She gave a twirl of her own and in seconds was dressed in her uniform. Prince raised an eyebrow. "Not bad."
"I know, no fireworks but effective," Wonder Woman agreed as she pulled open the door to the lab with Prince following behind her. They carefully waded in, seeing the fallen bodies of people in lab coats, a few security guards, and other strewn about the main office and hallway. Prince was checking them quickly. "A few still breathing."
Diana sniffed the air. "An odor, probably the remains of some sort of gas."
Footsteps echoed as Jamie rushed down the hall. "Hey, everyone on upper levels is out cold and…" She stopped as she took in Wonder Woman standing beside Diana Prince. "Wait…I thought…" She looked from one to the other as Prince smiled. "It's…complicated."
Jamie stared at them both, then shook her head. "Oh, what the hell? I have a bionic dog, I flew the invisible jet and wore armor blessed by the gods. I can roll with this."
Diana looked to Prince as they walked on. "You let her fly the jet?"
"It wasn't by my choice and you have one too?"
"Yes but it only responds to me."
"That's a major design flaw if you're in trouble."
Jamie just shook her head as they walked down the hallways. They heard a humming sound and headed to a pair of doors with a sign indicating it was the main lab of the building. Jamie grabbed the door handle but felt it stuck. She tensed, her arm pulling and the entire handle came loose from the doorway. Jamie tossed it aside as Diana threw the door open to enter.
The lab was a mostly clear area dominated by a large platform with a strange massive apparatus set atop it. It appeared to be an engine of some type but it was difficult to tell its purpose even as it was building in power. A group of women stood, many in tight black outfits with one notable for looking like a human cat with tail whipping behind her. The leader was a stunningly built woman with short blonde hair, clad in a mostly white suit that fit over her very strong and athletic form. She turned to face the intruders, showing a metallic mask covering half her face. The other half was gorgeous but set in a hard expression. Her eyes narrowed as she saw the three intruders. "You."
Wonder Woman stopped in place, her jaw dropping in shock. "Aresia?! How…I thought you were dead!"
"I almost was," Aresia hissed, rubbing her face. "I nearly perished in that explosion. The pain was agonizing but my hate drove me on. For you. For this pitiful world of men," she spat out the last word. "For all of you." She smiled. "But I managed to cut a deal with someone who hated you just as much as I did…who allowed me a new power."
Diana's eyes narrowed as the answer hit her. "Circe. You chose to ally with that witch?"
"She made a…most compelling offer. To ensure that the men of the world pay for their crimes against all women." Aresia waved her hand to the women around her. "These women understand the pain of men. They were cast aside, denied jobs over less qualified males or abused. I gave them the power to join me at my side."
"And just how much choice did they truly have?" Diana argued as Prince and Jamie both carefully stepped away from her to eye the various women, each knowing how this was going to end. "I can sense an enchantment when I see it, Aresia."
The renegade Amazon shrugged. "A small price to pay."
Prince snorted. "Taking over their minds to become your personal operatives and becoming criminals is 'saving' them? You're no better than the very men you claim are so horrible."
Jamie nodded in agreement. "Someone's been taking the way wrong lessons from Gloria Steinem."
Aresia ignored them both, focused on Diana. "I was in the midst of my plan with the…incident…occurred." Jamie and Prince exchanged baffled looks at why Diana stiffened at that word. "We found ourselves brought to this world and time. It's taken me a while to contact Circe but we are prepared to find ourselves back home. The museum piece from ancient Greece is just the thing Circe can use to help us hone in on our own reality. Where I can continue my work."
"Own reality?" Jamie felt utterly lost at this point.
"What work?" Diana pressed. "Another plague to wipe out men?" The lost sensation continued for Jamie.
"Can you deny the world is better without them?"
Wonder Woman shook her head. "That you still cling to that irrationality….Can you not see Circe is using you?"
Aresia scoffed. "Of course she is. And frankly...I don't care. As long as it means wiping out the Amazons who betrayed their codes and beliefs and the rest of the world of men, I'll let her use me. I'm using her too as we have a common interest. And if it includes destroying you…so much the better."
She lunged forward, throwing out a fist. Diana crossed her wrists so the blow impacted on her bracelets but grunted under the impact. The other women were charging forward as Jamie caught one with her arm and pulled sending her flying off into a nearby shelf. She turned in time to take a punch to the face and gasped. This woman may have been flesh and blood but hit as hard as any Fembot.
Prince had ducked behind a wall of shelves. One spin and an explosion of light and she was charging out in her uniform. Cheetah's eyes first widened but then narrowed. "Two Wonder Women? Fine, two more I can kill!" She hissed as she lunged forward. Prince was quickly dodging the slashing claws. Seeing her in trouble, Jamie kicked one of Aresia's women back and charged to help. Seeing her, Cheetah turned and slashed outward with Jamie raising her arm in reflex. Both of them yelled out as Cheetah's claws slashed at Jamie's arm. Jamie hissed as she looked down, seeing the touches of metal under the flesh while Cheetah felt the pain in her claws. That gave Prince a chance to punch her back, noting how Cheetah was even more ferocious than usual.
Diana and Aresia were locked in battle, exchanging blows and counters. Aresia was still a fury in a fight with Diana pressed by her attacks. Diana dodged a blow to pull out her lasso and throw it around Aresia. "Calm down," she snapped.
To her shock, Aresia grabbed the lasso and yanked Diana off-balance before punching her in the face. "Circe was kind enough to give me some protection from your magics, Amazon."
Diana rubbed her jaw. "You no longer consider yourself one?"
"Oh, I am. The true Amazons that should dominate the world!"
"We were never meant for that, Aresia! We are meant-"
"Enough lectures!" the blonde-haired woman yelled as she moved to a nearby console. She slammed her fist onto a button as the huge device behind her began to roar as its engines ignited. The apparatus grew in power with energy crackling about it, energies Diana found very familiar. Seeing Aresia moving to the platform, the other women were quick to follow suit. Cheetah managed to duck away from Prince's own lasso to race to join them. Aresia was smiling as the glow and power grew. "Good-bye, Diana. I'll be sure to give your mother my best."
Jamie was wincing in pain, clutching her bionic ear which was becoming overwhelmed by the loud whine of the engine. Behind her, Prince removed her tiara and hefted it in her hand. She threw it outward, letting it sail to smash into the upper part of the device. A cracking sound came as the machine emitted a shower of sparks. Aresia's eyes widened. "No...If you interfere with the proper calculations..."
A loud roar erupted from the device. Instinctively, Diana had thrown her lasso out toward Jamie and Prince. "Grab it!" she yelled and they both did as she asked. They had each wrapped an arm into the coil just as the device finally erupted into a huge blast of light and power.
Jamie let out a scream as it felt like she was being turned inside and out. She managed her grip on the lasso as it felt like she and the two Wonder Women were falling through some wide tunnel before them. Diana was gritting her teeth, used to this sort of thing but it wasn't any less pleasant.
The feeling ended with a shock as the three women found themselves landing hard on a surface. They heaved for breath as they tried to take in their surroundings. They were lying on a huge table in what appeared to be a meeting room of some sort. Around them were a group of figures all staring in various expressions of shock. Diana couldn't help but notice how very familiar several of these people were even if different in many ways.
The man in the black suit with pointed ears was instantly alert and ready for a fight. The powerful man in a blue suit with red cape and a shield upon his chest was peering at them carefully. The dark-skinned man in a green uniform was holding up his hand with a green ring growing brightly. A green-skinned figure was taking them in with interest. A young man in a red suit marked with yellow bolts just took in the three women, two of whom were almost exactly alike and turned to the bearded man in the yellow and green suit next to him. "Ya know...I've had dreams that start off this way."
Diana, Jamie, and Prince became aware of the woman slowly walking to face them. She was strikingly beautiful with lush black hair dressed in a suit of armor that was more than slightly familiar to all of them, save for a sword and shield attached to her back. She cocked her head as she took them in with a light smirk coming to her face.
"Well," Earth-51's Diana of Themyscira began. "I can tell this has the makings of a fascinating conversation."
Yes, I had to do it. The Wonder Woman of the DCAU meeting the one of the 1970s TV show. For those wondering Earth-76 is the official designation according to a Crisis tie-in. Also, the connection to Jamie Sommers is explained in the excellent Wonder Woman '77/Bionic Woman comic crossover which deserves a great read. Aresia is from the Justice League episode "Fury" and the Earth-76 Cheetah from the comics.
So had to put this out as a start, not as long as some of the other tales but just an obvious teaming to play with.
