Hi guys its been a long time. Sorry for the wait, I'm hoping to have a chance to finish this story. My writing style has defiantly changed since 2016, so hope you enjoy may go back to revise, but first I really want to finish my first ever fan fic.

Ash couldn't believe what was happening. He was meant to win the trainee honor, and now he was going to lose that to Halla. Ash couldn't help the sneer on his face. Halla was training with outsiders. She disappeared with that boy every day, and yet she was going to steal the honor from him.

All Ash had ever wanted to do was prove to not only his village but to himself that he could be the strongest Viking, the protector that this village needed, and now he was losing to the worst Viking in history. Ash studied there traditions, learned their techniques, so why…why was he losing everything he worked for.

Ash watched Halla run away from the announcement that day. He watched as she seemed to keep her distance from everyone except that outsider boy, Gabriel. Ash was practicing in the training ground when Stoick strolled into the arena.

Ash lowered his axe, trying to show his Chief his respect even though he was angry with the man.

"Hello, Ash," the large man says his arms behind his back as she just strolls around the arena.

"Chief," Ash says simply, grip tightening on his axe.

"I just wanted to see how you were doing, son," Stoick says, stopping in front of the boy, something like pity in his eyes. It made Ash grind his teeth.

"I'm fine, sir, just trying to prepare for the final challenge." Ash would not look at the man's eyes again.

The Chief hummed, "I should have spoken with you before the announcement. For that I am sorry, I should have prepared you better for the news." Ash snapped his head to the Chief. Wondering if he was mauled by a dragon and died for the Chief to apologize to him. "It wasn't fair to you, but Halla needed her chance as well."

Ash could hear the groan from the handle of his axe, his grip most likely leaving indents in the wood. "I hope you aren't asking for me to go easy on your daughter in the final challenge."

Rage takes over the Stoick's face, a color so bright it puts his hair to shame. "I would never ask that of anyone. This honor must be one here in this ring. It had just come to my attention that I could have handled the initial announcement better." Stoick seemed to hate having to explain himself, but Ash couldn't help but goad a reaction from the man who was trying to take what was his.

For a moment, neither male said anything, neither wanting to admit defeat. "I wish you the best of luck in the ring," Stoick doesn't say it, but the you'll need it is implied in his tone hanging between the two Vikings.

Stoick turns to walk away, his cape sweeping behind him as he heads towards the exit. Ash can't help but ask, "Why did this just suddenly come to your attention now."

"Halla was worried about you," Stoick states, barely stopping his pace. "She said that you had worked hard for this, that by every right, this was your honor. Halla believes I owed you an apology."

"So you apologized for Halla." Ash shouted, feeling his heart beating faster in his chest.

"Aye," Stoick says, stopping by the exit. "I am Chief, and my decisions will be honored and followed. However, if my daughter believes I have done wrong and is willing to fight me on it, then I must honor your future Chief's wishes." There it was said firmly and without question. Halla would lead us. A declaration that his daughter would lead the tribe, a topic Stoick had avoided since Halla becomes of age.

As Ash stewed, Stoick took his leave. Halla, the broken girl from his past, had somehow surpassed him. She somehow became stronger than him, and she did it so quickly. Ash couldn't breathe, his heartbeat ringing in his ear, and before he could cage it down, a snarl ripped through him. Followed by a large crack where a barrier spilt in two from the impact of his axe.

Ash trained till his arms ached till his legs could barely support himself, and when he pushed himself too far that we couldn't even lift himself from his bed, he would study. Study the books on dragons; on dragon hunting techniques, his entire life dedicated to this moment. To proving he was the strongest Viking on Berk and somehow he lost that.

If Ashe felt something run down his cheek he would argue that it was just sweat.

A Gronkle hovers above the ring, trying to hunt the teens scrambling around the arena.

Ash ducks behind a barrier only to find the source of his frustration already sitting there. Ash may have forced his axe a bit to close to Halla's throat growling "Stay out of my way! I'm winning this thing"

Ash can barley hears Halla's "Please, by all means." Once again, Ash feels a fresh wave of rage pass through him, and he uses that to push his body faster. Ash can hear the cheers for him and, for a moment, smiles when no one cheers for Halla.

Ash focuses on the arena rather than Halla standing behind the barrier, looking lost as she readjusts her new helmet giving out a forced half-hearted smile.

Ash is catching his breath from behind a barrier. Scowling, doing his best to focus on the task at hand, determined to finish this. "This time. This time for sure." With a fierce battle cry clawing itself out of his throat, he leaps from cover axe cocked to throw only to see that Halla as already laid the Gronckle out on the arena floor immobile.

"No," Ash whispers, lowering his axe. When Halls gives a half shrug, looking utterly bored with the whole thing. Ash can't help, but swing his axe into a barrier. He swings it again and again. "NO! NO! SON OF A HALFTROLL RAT EATING MUNGE BUCKET."

A clank rings out from the crowd above. Ash feels dread set in his shoulder. Gothi steps forward, tapping her staff. Everyone lights up excitedly, wondering how the elders would vote in this.

Stocik shouts, "Wait! Wait!" to the villagers who were leaving most likely already knowing the outcome of the results.

Ash hears Halla try to leave only to be dragged back by Gobber. "I'm kina late for-"

"What? Late for what exactly" I shout, stepping in front of the girl who may curl into herself a little. The girl practically winces when she feels the rage coming from me.

Both teens turn when Stoick starts to speak. "Okay quiet down. The elders have decided."

Elder Gil stepped forward, "I select Ash." The crowd cheers as Ash stands up straighter, feeling some of the tension in his shoulder relax as hold the elders stare.

Elder Gris speaks next, "I select Halla." A few cheers break out, and more whispers sprout around the crowed. Everyone is waiting on bated breath for the final result.

Elder Gothi stands silent, looking between the two teens for a moment, Ash could feel his stomach twisting. Gobber is standing behind the teens. He points to Ash, who is holding his breath. The crowd is silent, but murmurs erupted when elder Gothi shakes her head in no.

Ash can feel himself slipping, gripping his axe tightly to try and stay present. As the crowd erupts in cheers and hears elder Gothi's voice confirming what everyone already knew, "I select Halla."

Ash had lost. For all the work he had done, he had lost. Ash turned to his opponent, a glare on his face that only becomes harsher when he notices that Halla's expression.

Gobber is grabbing the girl cheering, "You've done it! You've done it, Halla! You get to kill the dragon!" Spinning the teen as Halla strains to smile. Looking over the arena as if planning her escape.

Stoick is cheering from up above, and Ash doesn't dare look at his chief "HAHA! That's my girl!"

As Hiccups is hoisted onto the recruits' shoulder carried out cheering for her victory Halla's weak cheers "Heh, heh. Oh yeah, yes, I can't wait. I am so…" Ash doesn't miss the help me stare; she sends to the outsider boy who disappears into the crowd, no doubt rushing to meet Halla at the exit.

Ash was vibrating. How could this happen? How?

Ash didn't believe that he was a sore loser, he didn't like to lose, but he wanted to think that if he lost fair and square that he could stomach this. This, though, this he couldn't accept. He needed answers.

Ash has watched as Halla, and the outsider escaped the cheering crowed, how Halla seemed to shake, throwing her hands in the air as she spoke to the boy. Ash watched as the boy placed his hands on her shoulder to calm her down. Both were speaking in hush tones that Ash couldn't hear. The nodded to each other and went there separate ways. The boy to the docks, and Halla to her home, Ash followed the girl.

Ash was even more confused as he followed Halla. She had grabbed a basket from her home, quickly making her way to the southern part of the island. Ash had to be careful Halla was doing her best not to be followed, making crooked paths and trying to move as swiftly and quietly as possible. Halla had never truly mastered stealth, and it was easy for Ash to keep up with the teen.

Ash made his move to set closer to Halla so that they were neck and neck in their movement. Ash had no idea where he was, but could make out a cove entrance. Ash was finally close enough to hear Halla. "Leaving. We're leaving. Let's pack up. Looks like you and me are taking a little vacation, forever." Halla looks around the sandy entrance of the cove, Halla sets her basket down, opening it to recheck her rations.

'Is this her plan' Ash thought, to run away with that outsider boy. 'She gains the greatest honor of our lives, and she decides to throw it all away for a boy.' Ash could feel his teeth clench, did Halla even realize that she was giving up her tribe, her family, by running away.

Ash is moving before he even realizes it, unsure what was going to happen next, but someone has to speak sense to Halla. Halla is still digging in her bag, so Ash sits on a rock in front of him, axe in hand.

It's only a few moments later that Halla notices his presence a shout of surprise filling the air. "What are you doing here?" Ash knows he shouldn't be spinning his axe, knows that he's purposely trying to be more imposing than he already is, but he can't help it. He needs to keep his hands busy, as he stalks towards Halla, her eyes wide as her eyes dart around nervously, searching for something. A voice tells him she's looking for the outsider boy.

"I want to know what's going on. No one just gets as good as you do. Especially you." Halls flinches and if Ash wasn't as mad as he was, he would have felt guilty. "Start talking! This all couldn't be from outsider training. You have to be cheating."

"Cheating," Halla repeated, looking a bit guilty. Ash grabs Halla by her odd-looking harness.

"It better not involve this." Ash seethes.

"I know this looks really bad, but you see…thus us ugh" Ash can hear a rustling coming from the other side of the cove, the hairs on the back of his neck standing up straight. Something in him screams danger. Ash lets got of Halla and turns to investigate.

Halla seems to panic, rushing to stand in front of the older boy. "You're right!" Ash almost doesn't hear her declaration more concerned with the goosebumps crawling up his arm; something was here in this cove. "I'm through with the lies. I've been making outfits. So you got me. It's time everyone knew yup. Drag me back. Go ahead." Halla says taking Ash's hand in her hers, it causes Ash to pause for a moment. Halla placed the hand back on her harness, trying to get Ash to close his hand around it so she can get 'dragged back.'

Ash doesn't budge glaring down at the girl. Halla huffs, "Fine fine. I'm not making outfits. I cheated. I outright cheated and stole the honor from you."

Ash blinked; for all his anger, he never actually thought Halla would purposely cheat or steal from him. Ash snarls, knowing that this wasn't the whole truth, and he was sick out it. Ash bens Halla's hand backward, driving her to the ground.

"AAUUGGH! Why would you do that?" Halla squeaks

"That's for the lies" Ash pounces the hilt of his axe off of Halla's laid out body, enjoying the oomph. "And that's for everything else."

Halla yelps at the extra hit, ready to reply only to be interrupted by a growl. Ash looks up to see…is that a freakin Night Fury. Ash is almost to stunned to move. The black beast growls, pouncing at the teens snarling.

Ash barleys hears Halla's feeble "Oh man" as she struggles to get up.

Ash doesn't think, "Get down! Run! "he shouts diving into Halla, "You need to run." Ash is gathering his axe ready to take on the legendary beast only to by Halla so time.

He hears movement and, for a moment, is relieved that Halla listened to him, only to feel Halla collided into him with a firm "NO." Knocking the ready axe to the ground, out of reach. Ash is knocked off-center from the collision confused when Halla runs to the best, stopping its charge from crushing him.

"No. It's okay! It's okay." Halla shouts to the best, grabbing onto its neck. The giant scaled monster pulls up short landing hard in front of Ash, spraying the boy with sand.

"He's a friend," The dragon snorts in disagreement. Ash was frozen, utterly confused about the situation. He had expected…frankly, he wasn't sure what he was expecting, but this was not on his radar of possibilities. The dragon looks hard at the boy, a snarl on his face.

"You just scared him," Halla states as if that explains everything.

"I scared him," Ash shouts, watching as Halla makes some sort of gesture with her hands standing next to the beat.

"Who is him?" Ash says harshly.

"Ash, Toothless. Toothless, Ash." Ash is starting to back away, Toothless hisses at the boy. Ash is keeping her eyes on the dragon and Halla. She was a traitor. She had betrayed her tribe in the worse possible way. Ash turns to run back to the village, disgust on his face.

Halla watches Ash run out of the cove. Axe still lost in the ground. "We're dead," Halla mutters. Toothless looks utterly board now, satisfied with Ash leaving and begins to turn away. "Where do you think you're going? We have a problem here." Halla watches as the dragon grumbles to itself.

Toothless lets out a roar, "What are you-" which is answered with another roar. "You didn't?" Toothless blinks innocently at his human. "Shit," Halla mutters, already running after Ash, hoping she finds him before Scarlet does. Toothless growls and soon enough is carrying the girl on his back into the forest.
