"Goddamn it, don't you see? We can have fun again!"
Since the day Meiko left, Kaito felt like he should do something to bring the peace back into their lives, but he didn't. He couldn't.
Like any other day, ringing bells is a constant in his life since they moved to this city and moved into a condo together. That's mostly because Kaito is an ice cream man, dragging his cart through the park.
That's all he could do before he could meet up with Meiko at night for their job together.
"We don't need to go back! We're fine the way we are. No need to change all of that."
It feel wrong to see her again after through all of that, but it's a job and it was honestly still pretty fun.
"Change?! We've barely changed since back then. Kaito still has that scarf-"
His scarf. Kaito still clung onto that scarf from the good old days, and would wear it a lot... even on hot days sometimes. Sometime Miku would glare at him for doing so... and maybe it's time to let it go.
He needs to change. They need to change to let go of the past, right?
But at the same time, Kaito couldn't just let himself to just throw it away or donate it to somewhere. He wants to see his scarf off with its new owner, and he has an idea on how to do that.
Changing the route of his ice cream cart, Kaito tried to pick up his courage and do his plan already, but he can't help but to sweat nervously.
Just do it. Just do it. Just pick a guy!
"Congratulations! You're our one millionth customer!" Kaito rang the bell at random, closing his eyes tight in anticipation. It was a believable lie, right?
Opening one eye, he saw this 'one millionth customer,' who happened to be a very painful-looking man.
Even though he was wearing sunglasses, the man was clearly shock by this, but tried to pull it off as if he's expected this. "Huh, I knew this day will come."
Just give it to him.
Kaito gave him the bag with his scarf in it, and he was expecting the stranger to be disappointed at such a simple prize, but surprisingly enough, the man continued to pulling off this 'cool' persona of his.
He wrapped the scarf around his neck with a flourish, and shot finger guns at him, even when the scarf's tail slapped him in the face. "Thank you for blessing me, ice angel."
Oh my god, what have I done?
Kaito want to slap himself in the face for just lending his scarf to some stranger, but he decided to just accept it. His precious scarf is gone, never to be seen again, and he needs to let it go. He needs to grow up, become an adult, etc.
...Then he keeps coming back to him, wearing that scarf. Why does he keep coming back to him? Does he think he'll get more prizes if he happened to pass by it enough? Does he really believe he's that lucky?
At least he's buying something for each visit. Sure it was the cheapest option he has, but it's something.
"One scoop of vanilla, please, my angel." Karamatsu said, snapping his fingers.
"You know, you can just call me Kaito. I'm certain that it's easier than 'my angel' and all that flowery stuff." Kaito sweatdropped, scooping his ice cream into a cone.
"You deserve a wonderful title."
What did I do to deserve this?
Since he's always hanging around, Kaito guessed he could ask some questions.
"So, what do you usually do around these parts?"
"Well, I'm just looking for my Karamatsu girls." As if on cue, a couple of girls passed by, and Karamatsu lowered his sunglasses, checking them out with a wink and a click from his tongue.
They looked absolutely disgusted, quickly scurrying away.
...Two scoops then. A part of him told him that maybe he should be kinder to the painful man, even if he might scare away the customers.
"Ice angel," Karamatsu strummed his guitar one day as Kaito looked up from his cart. "Do you know how to play?"
Kaito firmly kept his mouth shut for a moment, eyes darting around. "Just the guitar?"
"Just the guitar, unless your heart belongs to another."
His friend let out a low hum, seemingly in thought. "Then what does it mean if I know more than one instrument?" Does that mean I'm a 'player?'"
The two stared at each other for a moment until Kaito let out a laugh. "Oh god, was that a pun? I didn't mean to do that."
"...You know more than one?" Karamatsu blinked in astonishment.
"Piano, guitar, drums, and violin."
His sunglasses dropped from his face. "W-What? Is this your only job?"
"Day job. I have a pretty good night job as a pianist at this bar if that's a bit better."
Karamatsu's jaw dropped. "Just a pianist?! It's clear you're destined for more."
Kaito shook his head. "It's okay. I'm content with my life."
"No, no, no, this talent shouldn't be wasted in one place. It should be spread across the world!"
Kaito stared at him, seemingly trying to think what he's going to say next. Karamatsu felt almost skirmished under his gaze until the blue-haired man said, "If I did that, I wouldn't have met you."
"Huh?" Karamatsu nearly dropped his guitar, feeling rather warm from the neck up. Was it because of the scarf?
"I like my simple life here, but I consider you as... the cherry on top."
"W-Well..." Karamatsu straightened out his scarf. "I'm glad to be your cherry, ice angel." ...Why does that sound wrong?
Kaito simply smiled, causing the man to turn into a slightly brighter shade of red.
