So, for my villains, I'll give some explanations.
For Gerald Animosis(Dr. Animo): I am aware that Pokémon are as sentient as humans. Why do you Giovanni kicked Gerald out of Team Rocket when he found out what Gerald was doing? Though Gerald's work is only to find ways to make Pokémon evolve further. But it is still too unpredictable and potentially dangerous to do, yet he still does it.
Ohirume: Yeah. Him doing his work is the problem.
Red Hunter(Dojo): OK, first of all, Red Hunter is a genderswap with Rojo(Counterparts can be different genders). Now then, Red Hunter isn't exactly a poacher. He's a bounty hunter. He does whatever his job and mission tells him to do.
Faux: You just described a poacher.
Mizuro: *raises brow* Actually, that kinda sounds like a mercenary … which is actually kinda similar to a bounty hunter. Or … well, the differences are more about why they do a job.
Also, his suit is tough. It took direct powerful hits from Stone Edge and Overheat and was able to take multiple hits from Hammer Arm before breaking.
Ohirume: That's assuming Trix would use his aliens against another being.
Trixie(Charmcaster): OK, so when I was first that comment, I was going with all Pokémon, but then my mind went with Male Pokémon because she was female and I wasn't thinking of harem at the time I swear. So I'll just he real quick here. Trixie will just be an absolute witch, mix her fire with many of her attacks, use her Psychic abilities to to telekineticly lift, freeze, and mind control others. Her goal is to become the the strongest Psychic Type Pokémon in the world. As for her rivalry with Soot, it is because of Soot that her plans to achieve her goals fail time and time again. Trixie hates Soot with a burning passion and is currently trying to make her Psychic abilities stronger to effect Dark type Pokémon to one day overpower Soot and put her in her place.
Laura: That … isn't how that works. You can't overcome a Dark-type's Psychic immunity with strength. That's like training your body so you'll be able to Tackle a Ghost-type.
Pike: Yeah. Besides, she could just tag Soot with a Ring Target.
She even teamed up with Team Flare, who promised her she would be the strongest Psychic type Pokémon in their new world, to achieve her goals.
I'm not asking you to make this happen, these are just ideas. Hopefully, I fixed up the characters and gotten rid of any more confusion.

I've always wondered how Trix would react to other counterparts, so here's a list of Ash counterparts that I could think off the top of my head. How would Trix react to them?
1. Anime Ash - The canon Ash Ketchum from the anime.
Yugo: Depending on which version(the current region they're traveling in), probably either embarrassed and/or happy to see how much they've improved.
2. One Door Ash - This version of Ash is from the Fanfic "When One Door Closes, Two More Open" where gets betrayed by Pikachu and can understand Pokémon as well as being completely scared of all Electric Types.
Ohirume: Sympathetic about his phobia.
Pike: *raises brow* Though, I thought he was only afraid of my kinds evo line.
… *deadpans* And, no, I'm not going to try defending that Pikachu. That version was a jerk.
3. Zoroark Ash - This version of Ash is from a favorite fanfic of mine called "Master, Pokémon?" Where Ash and his mother are Zoroarks in disguise and Ash's dad is Cynthia's Lucario who's name is Gaheris. The timeline is kinda all over the place.

Well that was interesting didn't expect for Giovanni to challenge his whole team.

The 'weird censors' like Yvel, Crag, etc. are … really just that. Censors. Except they're not viewed as 'censors' in their world.
This Pokémon world only has one verbal human language and their idea of 'foul language' isn't excessively viewed as 'foul'.
They have no reason to come up with, and I quote, 'mom sanctioned curse words' like gosh or darn. Mostly because some of those are already part of their base.
Beings using the terms isn't a matter of preference or the way they were raised. That's just … their idea of normal. Like how they have rideable centipedes … okay, yeah, I could've given a better comparison.
'Freak' is the real version of what "A Christmas Story" censored as 'fudge' but as an adjective. I.e. 'Are you freaking kidding me?'
'Yvel' is short for Yveltal, their world's literal embodiment of death. You can figure out what that's supposed to mean. But, yes, they still use 'heck' as well.
'Crag' is a censor from the show "Monsuno". It was used in ways like 'What the crag?!', 'Oh, crag.', or 'where the crag is so-and-so.' I liked the idea.
These words are used commonly because the original curse words don't exist.

Hey, so I have my own fight idea for Soot(I'm not stealing your character, I'm just pitting her up against one of my things I came up)
Soot VS Ivypool(Pokémon VS Warriors: Madoa Legends)(Ivypool is an actual character from the Warriors book series, this is just a counterpart of her)
But Ivypool's not fighting alone. She's got her Madoa Creature Omaru the Shadow Madoa Wolf. Madoa creatures are mystical beings made of elements that Clan Cats can draw power from. With Omaru, Ivypool has umbrakinesis(the ability to generate, control, and manipulate shadows and darkness.
Abilities: Shadow Armor(Ivypool can surround herself in shadow energy to act like armor, though it can break if pushed too far), Dark Tendrils(Tendrils made of darkness that can stretch to up to 2 ft. Omaru can make 4 of these), Shadow Claws(Large shadow-like claws that Ivypool can form over her paws and claws to add striking power), and the Umbra Howl(An omnidirectional burst of dark energy that at full power can knock down a large tree and even create a 10 foot crater)
She also has a minor healing factor(Capable of healing wounds that would be normally fatal like lethal wounds or slit throat, though if the injury is too fatal like decapitation or being ripped in half, Omaru won't be able to bring Ivypool back).
So I don't know wins since I don't know enough about Soot, so, with the info I gave you about Ivypool and Omaru, can Soot win this and could she be able to counter or get around Ivypool and Omaru's abilities?

Look, I legitimately don't know anything about Warriors: Madoa Legends. I have no clue how a battle like that would go. I don't even know enough about this character to know why they would fight.

I worked hard on these lyrics to get the right amount of dark for both these characters because the are both said to be malevolent creatures and with shape shifting abilities to trick their foes(though Zoroark mainly uses his illusions(Male because 85% of Zoroark are male)to trick and lure trainers away from his territory while 953 uses her powers to kill simply for pure spite macliousness.) Riley: So how about I start explaining some parts of my past since I'm sure you guys are wondering how I'm Ash's older half-brother, how I met Umbra, all that.
Well, the first one is pretty simple. Ash and I have the same father and different mothers. Simple as that. How I met Umbra however is a way more bigger story.
So I was in Unova, my home region, walking around the edge of Nuvema Town, when I spot a large jeep just randomly parked on the edge of one the travel paths. I thought it was weird, so I decided to investigate. I heard whining and saw a cage in the back of the jeep with an injured and exhausted little Zorua. She looked up and saw me and then...actually spoke to me to let her out before the "mean poacher who killed her Meemas" came back. So I quickly grabbed the cage and booked it to the nearest Pokémon Center JUST as the poacher came out of the trees with his partner, a Nidoking, spotted me, and then began chasing me. Thankfully, his Nidoking accidentally hit the wrong tree with a Poison Sting and the poacher and his Nidoking were chased away by a swarm of angry Beedrill.
I got Umbra to the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy got her out of the cage, and I stayed with Umbra that whole night. When she woke up and learned I'd saved her, she quickly grew fond of me and thought she owed her life to me, thus becoming my partner and the constant annoying trend of her calling me "Master."
Omega: *sweat drops* So you saved her from bad people and now she's your pet … sounds pretty straightforward, dude.

A 3 month hiatus isn't quite what I expected by 'longer' but I didn't mind. I know these take a while to write and just to think up the outcome of each match-up... jeez this is why I don't like writing. But that's all the more reason to admire you!
Ohirume: *tired smile* Thanks. And, yeah, it was exhausting at times. I ended up having to make a chart for all of the match-ups and check off Pokémon to make sure I didn't mess up anything.
As for the battle itself, well it certainly didn't dissapoint. I completly forgot about Pikachu as well, so that tactic worked wonders. And the metronome self-destruct, the poison only in the de-tached paw thing, the Multifaking, all of that are so well thought through thing!
Yugo: *raises finger* Technically, Soot only did that as a precaution to avoid potential poisoning. There wasn't actually a guarantee that Poison Point took effect.
This was just amazing, it's all I wanted and more! As for the exotic mon thing, I don't really mind. As long as it's not just 'caught it in the wild' I'm okay with it.

Also, just a theory, but since an Omnitrix does technically have a repair DNA function, if the Omnitrix scanned Mewtwo wouldn't there be a chance it was damaged and attempted to repair (either Mewtwo himself or jsut the strand in the device)? I say because in some Ben 10 episodes we see the omnitrix repairing DNA changes done by genetic engineering or DNAliens.

On the other hand we can tell this Omnitrix is either a bit faulty (I don't mean not working, just not on peak condition) or made like that on purpose, since you are not supposed to inherit DNA fragments on the user's DNA,

so it's possible it would just admit Mewtwo's DNA strand without changes.

(Sorry I keep bringing up Zoroark VS SCP-953. It's just a great idea of mine that I like to share.)
Here's how I think the fight would go. Please feel free to correct some things if you think it wouldn't be right.
The fight begins in a forest at nigh with a full moon in the sky. A wild Zoroark is walking through the forest when he hears the sound of screams, gunfire, and maniacal laughter. He quickly heads over to a clearing and finds three dead hikers. And standing over one, in her true fox form, is 953 eating a liver. Zoroark, disgusted at the sight, roars at the Polymorphic Humanoid, grabbing her attention before she gives Zoroark a malicious, demonic grin.
SCP-953: Well, look what I have here. Another pathetic creature for me to slaughter!
And with that and laughing crazily, she lunges at the Illusion Fox Pokémon, only for the Dark-Type to counter with a Night Slash and knocking her away. He then sets up an illusion, creating a thick fog to hide while 953 recovers, eager to kill her new target.
(I'll just sugarcoat the parts until we get to the end. Long story short, Zoroark uses his illusions to confuse 953, manages to tear off an arm, they both manage to draw blood from each other, and 953 finally manages to hit Zoroark and disable the illusion)
With an opening, 953 quickly tears her clawed into Zoroark's belly and removes his liver, causing the Dark-Type to fall to the ground. As 953 laughs and devours Zoroark's liver, thinking she has won, Zoroark's eyes flash open, as they are now yellow, before a dark purple aura blasts out. The Polymorphic Humanoid turns back in shock as Hisuian Zoroark rises up and gives her the most hatred filled glare before nailing her with a stronger illusion. She then begins screaming in agony and terror as the sheer maliciousness and madness in the illusion mentally breaks her, and the Baneful Fox Pokémon pins her down and clawing her repeatedly, drawing blood and sending it everywhere, before hitting 953 with a fully charged Night Daze that spreads out through the entire area and completely destroy the Polymorphic Humanoid. As the dust clears, Hisuian Zoroark gets up and sees the only thing left of his opponent: a single, charred red fox tail. He roars in victory before retreating into the forest just as an SCP Foundation helicopter arrives on the scene.

Little trailer attempt for Soot Ivypool(Pokémon VS Warriors: Madoa Legends)
(Little update: I think I made Ivypool and Omaru too weak, so here's an update. Ivypool, with her Shadow Armor, becomes a living shadow. With this, she can form giant claws, tendrils, clones, and even power up bite to deal heavy damage. She also has the Umbra Howl, which knock Pine tress down with a single blast and create a 10 meter crater. Omaru can act as a second set of eyes and attack enemies trying to sneak on Ivypool. And she can absorb the darkness you hide within you(essentially she feeds off your sins). Her weaknesses is that she is weak to light based attacks and the amount of blood, trauma, and death she seen and dealt with during her time in the Dark Forest hasn't been the best for her mental state)

Soot uses a Will O Wisp on Omaru as he trys to get close.

Also, remember that Ivypool is real in the actual Warriors books, this is a just a counterpart of her from an idea I have stirring up in my head. Omaru is my OC and Ivy's Madoa Creature.

Riley: So there are two Mewtwos in your guys' worlds?
Riley: Cause my world actually has a third one.
Umbra: Oh yeah, Darktwo.
Riley: He's a clone of Mewtwo who is a Psychic/Dark Type. As for where they got Dark Type DNA for this, they got it from different Dark-Types. Absol, Mightyena, Zoroark, etc. They did this because they wanted to make sure that Darktwo would be resistant to Dark-Type attacks since Dark beats Psychic. However, this made Darktwo very violent and when he eventually broke out...well, I'm sure you can guess what he did.
Umbra: And he has Illusion as an ability, so that just made him even more tough to fight. Thankfully, we were able to calm him down and he currently is living in Anistar City where he is being helped by Olympia to calm his nerves and control his Psychic power.
Riley: Hope he's doing OK.

Great to have you back and this 'Slice of Life' chapter was a nice change of pace. We also know the new pokemon of Ash's team a Nincada. We also skipped over the Mr Mime episode but now we have the longest list of fillers sense the journey to Cinnabar.
Seishin: Atatat! Training arc. That's a slightly more tolerable form of filler.
Omega: Is it, though?
We also have Gary getting embarrassed and having a minor freak out which is fun to watch. I always like seeing arrogant people get beaten down whether it be physical or verbal don't matter much to me.

Well... as far as I remember and as far as bulbapedia provides there are only 2 Charles's in the anime, Charles Goodshow - which I don't think it is, and a trainer named Charles from the Unova anime who pretended to be an Accelagor themed hero. Idk if it is or isn't one of em but thats the best I can do. Oh also, great chapter, never expected a Nincada, which us why it's a good twist I suppose. Great stuff as always!

Omega: *sweat drops* That's, uh … that's kinda the point of the joke. It's been long since established that Trix is anything but normal in multiple ways due to Power Integration.
Yugo: *raises finger* Trix's mom thought his temperature was 65 degrees Fahrenheit and freaked out for a different reason than she logically should have.
For an average human, that temperature is almost frostbite. For Trix, that'd probably be a fever.
150 Fahrenheit is, apparently, his new normal and we don't currently know his new enraged temperature, but it probably breaks 250.
Ohirume: *nods* I may have chosen that number for unrelated reasons, but I did use a converter to find what the equivalent would have been in Fahrenheit.
Contextually speaking, it made sense.

Misty Mermaid – one more Cinnabar Island scene/different timing for 'Misty calls her sisters'
Why: The chapter was running long enough as is and I couldn't think of how to complete this scene.

After returning to Cinnabar from the Squirtle line's breeding grounds, Ash and friends made their way to local Pokémon Center. Because the island trip made them miss their ship.
Ash made his way through the front door with Soot and Misty on either side of him. Brock, Electra, and Togepi were on Soot's back, and Pikachu and Clefairy were on Ash's shoulders as usual. Squirtle was returned earlier.
Nurse Joy noticed them and smiled sheepishly, "Oh, hello again. I'm sorry about turning you away before."
Soot smiled, "Hey, don't sweat it. We knew it was part of the gimmick."
Brock looked at her; deadpanned, "Well, you and Ash did."
Nurse Joy sighed in relief before smiling, "Thank you for understanding. What can I help you with today?"
Ash smiled sheepishly, "Well something came up, we missed our ship to the mainland, and the next one won't be here until tomorrow. The Big Riddle Inn's owner is looking for a new guest, so we need a different place to stay the night."
Joy smiled, "Well, you're in luck. Someone checked out just this morning." Her smile saddened a bit, "Though, it's only the one room. I wasn't lying about us being busy."
Ash shrugged, "That's fine. We'll take it."
The nurse nodded, "Alright then." She raised a brow, "Though come to think of it, where are your friends?"
Misty and Brock tensed up a bit.
Ash smiled, "Oh, Misty decided to go fishing. She said she'll meet up with us at…" He blinked before frowning, "Um…" He glanced down at the Bubble Jet Pokémon with a hand to his chin, "What time did she say again?"
Misty deadpanned, "Won't it be a little suspicious if I check-" She perked up in realization and looked down at the Lens on her chest, "Oh." She looked back up at him, "You're checking with Clairvoyance, aren't you?"
Ash smirked before perking up and looking at looking at Joy, "Oh, right. Around four."
Misty looked at the clock, "Four and a half hours." She smiled excitedly as her tail wagged, "Sweet!"
Ash pointed a thumb back, "And Brock is sightseeing." He glanced at the squint-eyed Mouse Pokémon for a moment and sweat dropped, "Could be as long as six hours until he gets back."
Brock sweat dropped while smiling nervously, "Hm…"
Nurse Joy nodded, "Oh, I see-" She perked up and blinked, "Wait, Misty? As in Misty Waterflower?"
The Pokémon all perked up in surprise.
Ash blinked in surprise, "Yeah. Why do you ask?"
Joy smiled, reached under the counter, and pulled out a sticky note, "Her sisters called and asked that she call them when you she gets the chance."
Misty blinked in surprise, "How the Yvel did they know we'd be here?"
Ash smiled, "Okay. I'll be sure to let her know."
Joy smiled, "Thank you." She put the sticky note back on the counter, "So, should I go ahead and show you to your room?"
Soot smiled, "Nah, we're gonna stop by the lab for a few hours. Misty and Brock are meeting us there."
Ash shrugged, "We just wanted to stop by here to make sure we could get a room. Better safe than sorry."
Joy smiled and waved, "Alright, then. Have fun."

*Cinnabar Lab; later
"See ya later, Machoke!" A trainer called out without looking as he left the lab.
Machoke sweat dropped, "Bye…" He looked at the attendant.
The man in the lab coat noticed and gestured to a hallway, "Exercise room's this way." He started walking. Machoke followed.
"Now," The man said, "there are going to be other Pokémon in the room and a trainer that came by earlier. We don't want any trouble, so play nice."
Machoke deadpanned, "I get it. I was here a few days ago."
The pair came up to a door with a keypad. The worker typed before the door slid open.
The man looked back at the Pokémon, "Have fun."
Machoke nodded, "Choke."
The Fighting-type entered the room, and the attendant closed the door behind him. Machoke looked around and perked up in surprise.
The hitmonlee, hitmonchan, and poliwhirl he met before were all standing around the pool and looking at it anxiously. There was also a mightyena, two pikachu, and a clefairy looking at the water curiously.
A togepi was happily running on the treadmill; albeit at the lowest setting. A vaporeon sat next to the running machine while watching the Spike Ball Pokémon and holding the string to the emergency shut off key with a forepaw.
The primeape he met was off to the side using the pulley weights with an annoyed expression on her face. A third pikachu -this one female- was curiously watching the parts of the equipment move.
"He thinks … he can outlift … me?" Primeape muttered in frustration while working on the one-hundred-and-fifty-pound setting, "Just need … a little more … practice!"
Machoke raised a brow before walking up to the group around the pool.
"S- seriously." Hitmonchan asked warily, "Is he okay?"
Clefairy looked back at him while smiling, "Yeah. He should be fine. We're just testing his new record."
Poliwhirl looked at her anxiously, "Okay, but shouldn't one of us at least check or something? He's been down there for a while."
Pikachu shrugged, "Well, if you want to."
The Superpower Pokémon blinked in surprise, "Hey, what's going-"
A trainer with black hair burst out of the water and inhaled deeply. The group perked up and looked at him in surprise. The Fighting-types flinched and stared in shock.
Poliwhirl sighed in relief. Machoke looked at her in confusion.
Ash smiled at the Bite Pokémon, "What was my time?"
Soot looked at a clock, "Twelve minutes."
Machoke flinched and looked at her in shock, "Huh?"
Brock looked back at him and smiled, "Oh, sorry. Didn't see you, there." He pointed back at Ash, "Yeah. He was seeing how long he'd be able to hold his breath under-" He noticed something out of the corner of his eye and pointed, "Do not put your paw there!"
"SORRY!"
Machoke followed Brock's gaze, before flinching and looking at Ash in shock, "Wait! That human was underwater for twelve minutes?!"
Pikachu translated. Machoke looked at him in surprise.
Ash smiled at the new Fighting-type, "Oh yeah. My previous record was ten minutes."
Machoke blinked in shock and looked at Pikachu, "W- wait, did you just-"
"It's about time!"
Everyone looked over to find Primeape glaring at Ash.
The female Pig Monkey Pokémon pointed back at the weight pulley, "Rematch! Now!"
Machoke's eyes widened before he looked back at Ash then at Primeape again.
Clefairy looked at Ash, "She wants a rematch."
Ash shrugged, "Alright"

"Wait," Machoke muttered, "what?"

Brock's ears shot up.
Ash waved a hand, "Actually, all of them except-"
"Now wait a second, Ash." Brock jumped in; catching everyone else's attention. The breeder smiled up at Ash, "Maybe this could be a good experience for Misty and I. I mean, what human beside you could say they've been given a checkup at a Pokémon Center?"
Pikachu sweat dropped, "You just wanna be taken care of by Nurse Joy."
Brock smiled and glanced away, "Well, that's one perk." He with a paw to his chin, "But, I really think it might be a good opportunity to learn more about the healing techniques Pokémon Centers use for Pokémon outside of their pokéballs as well as the process for their routine check-ups. And from the point of view of a Pokémon, no less. Any in-training breeder would be begging to learn about this."
Soot sweat dropped while deadpanning, "Uh huh…"
Nurse Joy looked at Soot curiously.
Ash sighed before looking at Joy, "Actually, never mind what I said. Go ahead and give all seven a checkup." He raised a finger, "Just one thing to remember, though. Togepi sees Vaporeon as his adoptive sister and he might get upset if he's away from either her or Misty for too long."
Joy smiled, "Understood." She walked over to a door to the back and held it open, "Right this way."
Misty smiled up at Ash, "Thank you." She started walking toward the door.
Togepi jumped down from Soot and ran after her. Brock, Electra, Pikachu, and Clefairy jumped down and followed them.
Soot smiled up at her parent, "I'll make sure nothing happens."
Ash nodded, "Thanks."
Soot walked through the door after everyone else. Joy followed and the door closed behind her.
Ash smiled and looked around, "So-" He stopped and perked up when he found no one around him, "Oh … right. Huh…"

**Short Skip**
Ash smiled down at Misty, "So, how was it?"
The Water-type frowned uncomfortably with a paw to her head, "Well, I got a little startled by the booster shot, so I went with the alternative for a vaporeon. As in, melting into a bowl and having be the fluid stirred into me." She groaned, "I think I should've just taken the needle…"
Togepi frowned sadly and hugged the Water-types head, "Meema…"
Misty glanced at him, smiled softly, and wrapped her tail around him, "Meema will be just fine, sweetie. She's just a little dizzy."
Togepi smiled and hugged her tighter, "Yay!"
Clefairy raised a brow, "Wait, you still feel bad? But we all went through the healing machines."
Misty sighed, "Yeah, more just dizzy from the memory of it. Not actually nauseous."
Brock looked down thoughtfully with a paw to his chin, "But that really was some good insight. I had a feeling things like oral, ocular, auricle, and reflex tests would be included, but I didn't really expect booster shots."
[someone brings up a concern regarding the shots for the GLs]
"Yeah. Can't you get really sick if you take medicine that isn't meant for you?"
Soot smiled, "Oh, don't worry. Dad got them back before Power Integration and he was fine."
"Still didn't like it, though." Ash added. He raised a finger, "In all seriousness, there won't any negative effects. When I said before that damage and fatigue carry over between forms, that also includes benefits. The medicine is beneficial to you as Pokémon, so it'll become an equivalent that benefits humans when you change back. You'll feel the same as you do, now."

Viridian Gym Battle – Charizard doesn't tag out
Why: Charizard made some good points about past Gym Battles
Would've voided the flashback with the "I'm not the same little charmander who still needs that as a form of therapy." Moment.
[prime difference – Charizard battles/gets Dragon tailed out by Steelix. Would've lessened the reasoning/meaning behind Pidgeotto wanting to keep going]

The trainer brought out another pokéball and threw it, "Charizard, enter the fray!"
The ball burst open as the Flame Pokémon emerged on the field. He looked up at Steelix, smirked, and flew up to eye level. Steelix stared him down.
Giovanni's eyes narrowed, 'This one could be trouble.' "Use Rock Slide!"
"It's rain-style!" Ash called out before holding out a hand, "Flame Charge!"
The Iron Snake Pokémon lit up red again as the boulders formed and fell towards Charizard. Charizard became engulfed in a shroud of flames and shot out of the way of the attack. He changed course and made beeline for Steelix.
"Iron Tail!" Giovanni called out.
Charizard perked up, cut off Flame Charge, and ignited another to shot higher up. Steelix's tail swung past where he was.
Giovanni gritted his teeth, 'Do all of his Pokémon act on their own?!'
Ash smirked, "Now Flamethrower!"
Charizard quickly inhaled and exhaled a large stream of flame down towards Steelix. Steelix grimaced and shied away as the flame crashed down on their head.
Giovanni's eyes narrowed, "Rock Slide!"
"Flame Charge!"
Both sides started their attacks once again.
Charizard swerved around the falling boulders much faster than before and crashed into Steelix. The Steel/Ground-type grimaced.
"Dragon Tail!"
Charizard's eyes widened, and he glanced over as Steelix's glowing turquoise tail swung in and hit him in the side. The Fire/Flying-type burst into a surge of red energy as the tail continued through him.
Ash could only stare in shock as the light shot around his back and into Charizard's pokéball.

[Squirtle enters as normal]
The ball opened and Squirtle appeared on the field. He looked at Camerupt and smirked. Camerupt sweat dropped and frowned uncomfortably.
Giovanni stared in surprise, "Um, a question before we continue. How did you manage to acquire all of the Kanto starter Pokémon?"
Ash perked up, "Oh. All three were abandoned by their previous trainers." He frowned and glanced away somberly, "Some had it worse than others."
Camerupt's eyes widened before he looked at Squirtle.
Squirtle waved a hand, "Nah, don't worry. My old trainer was just a spoiled brat."
The Ground-type user blinked in surprise, "None of them were your starter?"
"That's right." Ash said before pointing at Pikachu, "He was."
Pikachu smiled and raised a paw, "Pika!"
Giovanni blinked, "Huh…" He shook it off and returned to his poker face, "Understood."
Both Pokémon took that as an okay to move into their fighting stances.

Why: It just made less and less sense to me, the more I thought about it.
It also reduced the surprise value of Pikachu switching in.

The ref stared in shock before smiling and shooting up an arm, "Mightyena is unable to battle!"
Rhyperior fell to a knee and panted heavily.
(Ash runs out onto field and get Soot and carries her back in his arms)
Giovanni watched as Ash continued towards the trainer box, "It was a good match." He closed his eyes, "I only feel obligated to say that I'm sorry for this outcome."
Ash didn't look back as he continued walking, "Huh? What do you mean?"
Giovanni eyes shot open in surprise before he looked at Ash again. His eyes widened in shock.
In the trainer box, the defeated clefairy was still lying back against the boy's backpack and leaning against the pikachu's shoulder. The latter completely unscathed. Pikachu noticed the man looking at him and smiled happily. Clefairy giggled and leaned off him to let him stand up.
Giovanni stared in shock, 'He still has the pikachu left… I was so focused on the Phantom Child that I- I actually overlooked-' He looked at Rhyperior.
Rhyperior looked back at his trainer. He smirked and shakily stood back up. He took a deep breath and glared ahead determinedly.
Giovanni's eyes widened. He cracked a small smile and looked ahead, "I see…"
Ash made it back to the trainer box and turned to face the field; Soot still in his arms. He smiled softly and nudged his head against hers, "Get some rest, sweetie."
Soot grumbled, "You're lucky I'm too tired to argue." She rested her head against her meema's shoulder glanced out at the field.
(Note: Soot would've remained in Ash's arms throughout the remainder of the chapter. So, I do apologize for cutting that.)
Ash chucked softly. He glared ahead determinedly, "Alright Pikachu, let's wrap this up!"
(Pikachu enters field)
"Rhyperior," Giovanni said; catching the Rock/Ground-type's attention, "for his last battle, if at any point you see an opening, you are given full permission to act it without my instruction."
Rhyperior's eyes widened in surprise. After a moment, he smiled determinedly and nodded before facing Pikachu again.
Ash smirked, "Sounds good. Pikachu! Freestyle!"
Pikachu grinned and crouched down, "Gotcha!"

He looked down and his smiled saddened, "Though, I also can't help but feel a little guilty about being so excited." His friends perked up in surprise as he continued, "I mean, we all helped out with that stuff and I'm the only one getting rewar-" He stopped and perked up when he felt something tap his forehead.
"Ow!" Misty blurted out.
Ash looked at her in surprise to find her shaking her hand. Togepi was looking up at her frightenedly, Electra was looking at her in surprise, and Brock was sweat dropping.
The Water trainer grabbed her finger and glared at Ash, "Okay, not doing that again."
The Spike Ball Pokémon frowned worriedly, "M- meema?"
Misty glanced down at him, smiled softly, and petted him, "I'm okay, Togepi." She glanced at Ash, "Meema just made the bad choice of flicking something as hard as a brick."
Ash chuckled nervously.

Soot snickered before smiling up at Ash, "I'd say that went well."
Ash smiled down at her, "Yeah. Now I can start sorting out regimens."
"U- um…"
Ash and Soot perked up and looked ahead again. They found one of the tauros looking at Ash anxiously.
He glanced away, "I- uh…"
Ash kneeled down to his eye level, "Is everything alright?"
The Bull Pokémon cleared his throat, "Well … what you said before, about a friend or … loved one."
"Someone came to mind?" Ash asked.
Tauros frowned, "I mean, sort of. But it's not like she and I were mates" His frowned saddened, "yet…" He perked up and when felt a massive claw on his head and looked at his trainer again.
Ash smiled softly, "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go find her."
Tauros's eyes widened in awe, "Y- you mean-" He smiled hopefully, "right now?"
Ash nodded, "I said I'd call Kaiser as soon as possible, didn't I? Professor Oak is a friend of his." He looked back at his hatchling, "Soot, can you go fill the professor in and get Kaiser on the phone?"
Soot grinned and saluted with a forepaw, "Can do, kangy." She turned and started running to the lab. She frowned, 'So much for "put some thought into their prank".'
Tauros watched Soot disappear through a wall and smiled up at Ash, "I … I don't know who to thank you for this."
Ash stood back up and smiled down at him, "Well, that's easy. You're one of the non-trade battlers, aren't you?" Tauros perked up in surprise as he continued, "Just put in the work so long as you stay in that group."
Tauros stared in mild awe before smiling determinedly and nodding, "Of course. I promise." He looked at the lab anxiously, "I just hope she's still there."
Ash frowned and looked at the building too, "I'm not gonna lie, the odds could be better. It's been a few months since we were at the Safari Zone." He frowned shamefully, "If I'd just called about this sooner or asked someone to check on all of this, there'd have been much higher odds of us finding her."
Tauros looked at him and smiled kindly, "Hey, come on. Just knowing you're going to try and find her for me, it means a lot." He looked at the building again, "Y'know, up until today, I started hoping another trainer who this Professor Oak human sponsors would catch her. So, we could meet here."
Ash smiled at him, "Then we'll make that plan B. We can ask around the Zone and see if anyone happened to see her get caught."
Tauros perked up and looked at Ash in shock, "S- seriousl-"
"Hey, Tauros!"
The guys looked ahead to see Soot sticking her head through the opened door.
"Your girlfriend!" The Dark-type called out, "Are they a rhyhorn?!"
Tauros nodded, "Yeah!"
Soot looked back inside and said something. She looked at them again, "Is her favorite berry Lum?"
Tauros smiled brightly, "You already found her?!"
Ash blinked in surprise.
"About that…" Soot trailed off. She shook it off and gestured for them to come, "You might wanna just hear this for yourself!" She disappeared back inside.
Ash and Tauros stared in confusion, shared a look, and hurried over to the lab. Ash managed to get through the patio door and Tauros followed behind him. They found Soot, Oak, and Muk around the phone and Kaiser on the other end of the line; standing next to an anxious looking rhyhorn.
Tauros smiled brightly and ran up to the phone, "Rhyhorn!"
Rhyhorn flinched and looked at the screen. She smiled, stared tearing up, and ran up to the camera, "Tauros!"
Oak was just staring at Ash in shock.
Kaiser stared in shock too, "Is that a kangaskhan?"
Soot waved a paw, "Yeah yeah, she joined dad after we left." Tauros looked back at her in surprise as she continued, "Now, please repeat what you said before."
Kaiser perked up, "Right, sorry." He looked ahead, "So, the thing is … I've had this rhyhorn with me for months."
Ash's eyes widened in shock, "E- excuse me?"
"She's confused." Soot translated.
"So, here's what happened," Kaiser said, "Ash, your trainer, came by the Safari Zone-"
The kangaskhan deadpanned and waved a claw, "Kanga."
"You already know that." Kaiser said, "Okay, about a month after he came by, I had to update the security cameras. When they came back online and I got back to the front desk," He pointed at the Spikes Pokémon, "there was a Safari Ball on the counter with this one inside it. That and note saying 'don't let her back out into the Safari Zone'. No signature."
Ash and Tauros stared blankly.
"Yeah, it's weird." Soot said before looking at Rhyhorn, "And you have no memory of being caught?"
Rhyhorn looked at her and shook her head. Tauros's eyes widened in shock.
Ash blinked in surprise, and he looked down at Soot, "The psychic?"
"My best guess." Soot mumbled. She smiled at Safari Zone warden, "Well thank you for keeping her there, Kaiser. And you really don't mind us taking her?"
Kaiser waved a hand, "It's fine by me. Giving away one rhyhorn won't make a difference." He frowned, "But I'd appreciate it if you didn't spread the word about me doing this. I set that thirty Safari Ball limit for a reason and can't start handing out Pokémon to people who think they were 'ripped off'." He said using air quotes.
Ash smiled and gave a thumbs up, "Kanga."
Soot smiled, "Understood. I'll pass it on to dad when he wakes up."
Kaiser smiled, "I appreciate it. Alright, gimme a second to send her over."
Rhyhorn smiled at Tauros, "I'll see you soon."
Tauros smiled softly, "I'll be waiting."
Kaiser returned Rhyhorn and started typing.
Tauros glanced up the at Parent Pokémon, "So that stuff about you being our trainer really was joke."
Ash deadpanned, "No, we just have to lie to the public."
Tauros looked over him warily. The transfer device whirred to life; catching his and most of the others' attention. Tauros smiled happily as a Safari Ball appeared in the machine.
"And there we go." Kaiser said.
Ash smiled before grabbing the Safari Ball and tossing it up, "Come on out!"
The ball burst open as Rhyhorn appeared. She looked around anxiously before spotting Tauros. She smiled and started tearing up. Tauros smiled softly and teared up as well. He walked up to her and pushed his head to hers.
Rhyhorn sniffled and nuzzled him back, "T- Tauros… I was so worried that I'd never-"
"Shh shh." Tauros said soothingly, "It's alright, dear. Nothing is going to separate us again." He glanced at Ash.
Ash smiled softly and nodded. Tauros smiled back.
Soot smiled before looking at the phone again, "Thank you again, Kaiser. If there's any way, we can repay you for this, just ask."
The Safari Zone warden smirked, "Well, now that you mention it, how about you all visit again sometime soon?"
Ash smiled and sweat dropped, 'Shoulda guessed.'
Soot mimicked Ash, "For another translation session with Dragonair?"
"Well, since you're offering." Kaiser said with a shrug.
Soot snickered and rolled her eyes, "Alright, deal. We'll call later to set up a time and use a Flying-type to get there."
Kaiser gave a thumbs up, "Works for me." He looked at Oak, "See ya, Sammy."
Oak smiled and waved, "Take care, Kaiser. It was nice talking to you again."
Kaiser hung up.
Rhyhorn looked at Soot with a small smile, "I don't know how to thank you for this."
Soot smirked, "Well, I appreciate it, but you're thanking the wrong person. You should really be thanking your new trainer."
The Rock/Ground-type perked up in surprise before looking at Oak.
The professor smiled, "Sorry, not the case." He gestured to Ash.
Rhyhorn looked at Ash.
Ash smiled and raised a claw, "Hello."
Rhyhorn stared blankly before glancing at Tauros.
Tauros smiled nervously, "I don't fully understand, either."
Rhyhorn looked at Ash again, "Okay?" She cleared her throat and lowered her head, "Thank you for doing this for us. I'm sorry to have put you through so much tr-"
"Hey." Ash cut her off sternly as he kneeled down. She tensed up slightly and looked at Ash to find him looking her in the eye, "I am the only one here who has to apologize."
Rhyhorn blinked in shock, "What?" Tauros looked at him in surprise.
Ash nodded, "You didn't do anything." He looked at either of them, "Neither of you did. I should've talked to the herd way earlier than this so you the two of didn't have to be apart for so long. Maybe neither of you angry at me, but I know it's my fault for not considering this sooner." He lowered his head, "So, please accept my apology."
Soot smiled softly. Samuel stared in mild confusion; having heard none of the conversation.
Tauros and Rhyhorn just stared in shock before looking at the Bite Pokémon in the room.
Soot shrugged; soft smile remaining, "That's my meema for ya."
'That just raises more questions!' Rhyhorn screamed internally. She looked at Oak before looking at Ash again, 'Maybe he's a ditto who got an exception?' She shook it off and smiled kindly, "Apology accepted. And thank you again."
Ash smiled at her, "Well, I'm happy to have you aboard. I think you'll be a really good addition to the team." He tensed up and smiled sheepishly, "Well, if you wanna battle, that is."
Rhyhorn perked up and looked at him in surprise, "Huh? Are you saying I get to choose?"
Soot grinned, "Yeah, it's kind of our thing."
Tauros smiled at her, "They actually just got through asking me and the other tauros the same thing. I chose the group where I can battle and not be involved in trading."
Ash smiled, "The other options are battle while being okay with trading and not battling at all. I can already assume you're not okay with being traded, so that leaves battle or leisure." He waved a claw, "And don't worry. The decision isn't final. You can change your mind whenever."
Rhyhorn stared in awe before looking at her partner. She looked down thoughtfully before looking at Ash again, "Could I get back to you on that?"
Ash smiled, "Of course." He frowned, "But, I have to set a cut off at five days so we can prepare for the League. If you haven't decided by then, I'll have put in the non-battle group."
Rhyhorn smiled and nodded, "I understand. Thank you."
Soot smiled, "No problem." She pointed towards the patio door, "Now get on out of here and start catching up ya lovebirds."
(Couple exits)
Soot smiled, "So, now we have a rhyhorn. Sweet." She glanced at Oak, "You'll take of that officially, right?"
Oak smiled, "Yes, don't worry. I'll register her to Ash's account. Also, Ash." He said before looking at him frantically and pointing at him, "When they Yvel did you get this?!"

[Aerodactyl reveal already happened; Gary didn't run inside immediately]
Gary mumbled something under his breath. He smirked again, "Ah, whatever. Let's get this battle started."
Ash smiled and glared determinedly, "Alright. What's the match up?"
Gary smiled, "Let's make it a best of 3 where we have to switch each round. And to make it interesting, I'll even match whatever Pokémon you choose and beat you at your own game." He shrugged, "Afterall, I've got over sixty different Pokémon. I should be able to match whatever you choose, no problem."
Ash blinked in surprise, "So, you found a released bulbasaur and charmander, too?"
"…" Gary looked around and sweat dropped, "Right…" He shook it off and smiled, "Well, I can match anything but Soot, the clefairy, the aerodactyl, and the starter Pokémon." He cracked a small smirk.
'Now I get it.' Ash thought, 'He wants to prevent me from using Soot or Aerodactyl.' "Fine by me." He looked around at them, "You guys heard him. Sorry."
Soot rolled her eyes, "Figures." She walked over to the spectators.
Aerodactyl groaned and slumped forward and Clefairy pouted sourly. Charizard and Bulbasaur sweat dropped. They walked over to join Soot and the others. All of them except Clefairy who remained at Ash's side.
Ash nodded, "Alright. Now I at least three of you to volunteer for the match."
Pikachu and Squirtle raised a paw, Primeape and Muk raised a hand, Arbok held up the tip of his tail, Kingler raised his smaller claw, Pidgeot raised a wing, and the three tauros Primeape battled before stepped forward.
Ash looked around at them, "…okay." He pointed at one of his Poison-types, "Muk, you're definitely past due for a battle." He pointed at the Normal-types, "Tauros, I'd like to see what one of you can do. Pick amongst yourselves on who will participate." The trio perked up and shared a look as Ash looked back at the spectators, "And does anyone have a die?"
The result was five, so Primeape won … They were numbered in the order they joined Ash. Squirtle, Arbok, Kingler, Pidgeot and the other two tauros joined Soot and the others.
Ash to his side of the field with Tauros, Muk, and Primeape around him and Pikachu and Clefairy at his feet.
The watch user smiled, "Alright. We're ready."
Gary smirked, "'Bout time. And since you chose the Pokémon, I'll pick the order." He reached back and tensed up upon realizing something, "Um … gimme a minute to get the right Pokémon."

*Three hours later
Gary rode back into the clearing on a rapidash, climbed down, and looked ahead determinedly, "Alright, I'm-" He perked up and stared in surprise.
Ash looked like he talking to one of his tauros, but Soot wasn't close enough for that to be right. Also, his pikachu and clefairy looked like they were saying something every now and then which was weird.
The Gym Leaders and all the rest of the Pokémon were laying around carefree except the primeape who was punching the muk. Gary's grandfather was nowhere to be seen.
Soot was shuffling around paper cups on a cookie sheet while the girl pikachu glared intently.
Brock perked up and looked over, "Oh, Gary's back."
"Where's gramps?" Gary asked.
Misty was still leaning back; eyes closed on Togepi lying next to her, "He went inside and told us to get him when you got back."
Charizard got back to his feet, "Yeah, I'm on it." He lifted off and flew towards the lab.
Gary stared blankly, "Why didn't he just wait?"
Ash sweat dropped, "You've been gone for hours."
Electra glared at the cups intently before pointing at the leftmost one, "That one!"
Soot lifted the cup; revealing nothing, "Wrong again." She lifted the middle and ate the piece of Pokémon food under it.
"Oh, come on!" The Mouse Pokémon cried out in frustration.
Charizard returned with the professor after a moment. Gary returned Rapidash and he and Ash moved to either side of the field.
"Any need for a ref?" Ash
Gary smirked, pulled out a pokéball, and enlarged it, "Nah. The outcome will be obvious, anyway."
Soot groaned in annoyance.
"Take him down!" Nincada shouted.
Gary held out the pokéball, "Tauros," He reeled back and threw it, "I choose you!"
The ball burst as the Wild Bull Pokémon appeared and let out a battle cry
Ash glanced over at his Wild Bull Pokémon, "That's your cue."
Tauros smirked and walked onto the battlefield. Both Normal-types moved into their fighting stances.
Ash's Tauros's eyes narrowed, and Gary's tensed up slightly.
Gary's eyes narrowed, 'Intimidate.' "Use Zen Headbutt!"
Ash held out a hand, "Match him!"
Gary's Tauros broke into a sprint as a white energy sphere formed between his horns while Ash's Tauros charged with his horns glowing light blue. They clashed midfield and pushed at each other.
"Thunderbolt!"
Gary's eyes widened as Ash's tauros crackled with electricity and unleashed the attack at point blank.
"AHH!" The Normal-type cried out as the Electric-type attack washed over him. Ash's tauros got the upper hand and shoved his opponent back.
Gary's tauros skidded back to a halt and shook his head rapidly.
Gary gritted his teeth, "Earthquake!"
"Brace yourself!" Ash shouted.
Tauros got up to his hind hooves and fell back down to stomp the ground. A white pulse shot out from the point of impact.
Tauros stood his ground and grimaced as the shaking ground tore away at his stamina.
Brock frowned and muttered, "Crag, that's right. Ash hasn't had time to teach Tauros any propulsion techniques."
Misty frowned, "So where does that leave him?"
Ash smirked, "Now Payback!"
Misty smiled, "Oh. Never mind."
Tauros shot forward and threw back the other tauros with a headbutt. He crashed to the ground and shakily got back to his hooves.
Gary clenched a fist in frustration. He held out a hand, "Rock Slide!"
Tauros let out a battle cry and a ring of large rocks shot appeared around him. He swung his head forward and they all flew towards his opponent.
Ash swung an arm out, "Dodge as many as you can! Counter the rest with Zen Headbutt!"
Tauros's horns lit up again and he jumped to the side as two rocks crashed onto the ground where he was. He jumped back to dodge another and then shattered one with his horns. He shied away when he took one in the side before shattering another.
Gary smirked, "Now Giga Impact!"
Ash gritted his teeth, "Double Edge!"
The tauros shot towards each other again; one with a golden shroud covering him and one with a golden trail coming off him. They clashed mid-field and kicked up a cloud of dust around them. They shot out of the cloud almost as soon as it came up and skidded to a halt in front of one of the trainers. They turned to face each other as the dust faded and they glared determinedly; both covered in scuff marks.
Ash perked up and Gary stared at the tauros in front of him intently. The young Oak then tensed up as the tauros let out a pained groaned and fell to its side; eyes swirling. He gritted his teeth in frustration. The tauros on Ash's side perked up in surprise.
Ash smiled sadly and started walking. Gary looked at him in surprise as he walked past the tauros in front of him and continued towards the defeated one.
Ash knelt down and petted the Wild Bull Pokémon, "Hey. You alright?"
Tauros came to and glanced at the boy before frowning.
Ash smiled softly, "Hey, don't worry about it. This just means you have room to improve. That's nothing to be ashamed of."
Gary flinched and glared at Ash, "Hey! How I train my Pokémon is-"
"This is my tauros, Gary." Ash cut him off without looking before pointing a thumb back, "Yours is standing right there."
Gary jerked and looked across at the other tauros in surprise. Tauros just stared at him incredulously.
Ash helped his tauros back to his hooves and led him to the spectator area.
Tauros lied back down and looked at Ash, "You're really not upset about the loss, right?"
Squirtle whispered the translation under his breath.
Ash smiled, petted him, and whispered, "I promise I'm not. You did great out there."
A handful of the herd stared in surprise before looking at Squirtle. As did Nincada.
Charizard noticed and smirked, "Happy to see you believe us now."
Tauros looked at the three of them in surprise before looking at Ash again. He smiled and pushed into the hand; tails wagging, "Thanks."
Ash smiled. He stood back up, "Get some rest, Tauros. You've earned it." He walked back to the field.
Gary stared in surprise before shaking it off and holding out a pokéball, "Good job, Tauros! Return!"
The Wild Bull deadpanned as he disappeared into the beam.
He put the ball away as his smirk returned, "Well, looks like your already losing Ashy-boy! I just have to beat one more of your Pokémon!"
"Seems to be the case." Ash said; unphased by the taunts, "So who's next?"
Gary frowned and grumbled something.
