"Yeah, hey, Kurt." Blaine sighed. Of course, Kurt would pick now to not answer his phone—he only didn't answer a phone call from Blaine once, maybe twice, a year. "I know Burt and Carole are at your place and I am supposed to be on my way there but I got in another wreck. Again, wasn't my fault. But the car is totaled and I didn't even make it out of Cambridge so I'm waiting for a tow truck but on the bright side it's Adrian's boyfriend that showed up… so, yeah… Oh, also, I'm fine. That would be important, so I guess you can call me later or something. I love you."
Blaine looked at his car, the front smashed in, and sighed.
He didn't try to contact Adrian because he had the flu. AJ and Wes were in a three-hour lab. He knew Matt could take him home after the tow truck came—that wasn't a big deal.
But he had to make it to New York.
Not only had Carole and Burt come up to 'check on him' but he had to tell Kurt about the job being in New York. He'd already waited four days and that was driving him crazy—he wanted to do it in person and, of course, life happened.
That pretty much exhausted his options except for Alex but he still hadn't talked to Alex since everything with their dad went down.
Matt's partner came over, handing him his car insurance information and ID while Matt talked with the other driver who was a teenager.
"Is he freaking out?" Blaine asked, glancing over.
"Don't we all the first time we total a car?" His partner laughed. "We can stay with the car until the tow truck gets here if you don't want to hang out."
"Well I don't really have anyone to come and get me yet, but thanks." Blaine watched a fireman literally sweep big chunks of Blaine' car out of the way so they could open up the middle lane for traffic.
Matt's partner went off, being called over by one of the firemen.
Blaine unlocked his phone and, really hating life at that moment, clicked on Alex's number.
"Hey, Blaine. Hang on." Alex said.
Blaine could hear wailing in the background. Two seconds later it stopped and he heard rustling.
"Hey, sorry. What's up? How are you doing? I didn't want to bother you but holy shit."
"Yeah, I'm good but I have a… uhm favor to ask. You only live like half an hour away from me, right?"
"Yes?" Alex sounded confused.
"So, I'm on the side of the road because a sixteen year old totaled my car— but nobody else is free and I'm really supposed to be on my way to New York City to see Kurt and his family…"
"Blaine, stop! Are you okay?" Alex sounded urgent.
"Other than being really annoyed, yeah. I guess I should have started with that, I'm sorry."
Alex let out a relieved sigh. "What is it with you getting hit?"
"I don't know but it really sucks. I bet my insurance premium is going to go up." Blaine complained.
"Yeah, I can get you to New York. Let me get Elena ready and I'll be there as soon as I can. Can you send me the address?"
"Thank you. I really appreciate it."
"Don't thank me. Really." Alex said. "I'm happy to. I'll be there as soon as I can, okay?"
"Thank y—I mean, okay. Thanks."
"Bye!" Alex said as Elena started to cry.
Blaine took a deep breath and let it out slowly before taking a picture of his Jeep Cherokee. "Rest in peace, Betsy."
…
"What is it with you and getting hit?" Alex asked, getting out of his car half an hour later. "Are you okay? Does your head hurt or anything? Or your back?"
"I'm fine. The paramedics checked both of us over before they left." Blaine nodded, pushing himself off the ground and into a standing position.
"Kurt knows you're okay?" Alex asked—Blaine was getting serious dad vibes from him. The again, Alex was a dad.
"Yeah, I got off of the phone with him a couple of minutes ago." Blaine nodded again.
"Did you hit your head?"
"I mean… against the back of the seat but that's it. I'm fine." Blaine promised. "Even the paramedics said I was good. And yes, I told them about my concussion from a few years ago."
Alex looked at the car which had just been loaded onto the tow truck. "Fuck."
"It's okay." Matt said coming up. "Cars are pretty much made to crunch now. You okay, Blaine?"
"Yes. Everyone can quit asking me." Blaine held his hands up.
"Well if you feel it later, go to your doctor." Matt said, handing him a couple of papers. "We'll get everything sent off for you. You're sure you don't need a ride?"
"Yeah. This is my brother, Alex. Alex, this is my roommate's boyfriend Matt. They call him Mr. Sexy Police Officer."
"Nice to meet you." Alex said distractedly, looking into the back seat where Elena was awake and trying to lift her head.
"Well you should get out of here before you all get hit too." Matt said. "Seriously if you start to feel bad later go to the hospital."
"I will." Blaine promised. "Thanks, Matt. I'm glad it was you that showed up."
Matt grinned. "I'm sure I'll see you soon."
Blaine waved when Matt and his partner got into the car.
"He looks so young to be a police officer." Alex said after getting in the driver's seat. "You ready?"
"Yeah." Blaine got into the passenger seat but looked into the back seat. "Is she okay by herself?"
"Yeah. If she explodes or gets hungry I'll pull over." Alex checked his mirrors before pulling out.
Blaine relaxed against the seat, chewing on his bottom lip.
"How… are you?" Alex glanced at him.
"Annoyed at the moment but otherwise fine." Blaine took a deep breath.
"Last week… That was really…" Alex paused. "Brave."
"I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't about to leak." Blaine shrugged.
"Either way it was brave. For what it's worth, I'm proud of you."
"Thanks." Blaine's voice was soft.
"I wanted to call you but I… didn't know if you would want me to… and I feel really guilty that I wasn't around to know that they were sending you to… I mean, I…"
"You shouldn't feel guilty." Blaine looked at him.
"I thought they would be different with you. I really did or I would have… I don't know."
"You needed to get out too."
"I had a feeling you might be gay when you were four. This stupid thing with a pink power ranger toy which I know isn't really a valid way to know if someone is gay but it was a feeling. And you liked… more feminine things. But I told myself maybe it was a little kid thing, you know?" Alex took a deep breath. "And anytime I came you just… I thought you hated me because you never said anything. If I had known I would have gotten you out of there, Blaine. I didn't know. They acted like you were the perfect son up until you graduated high school. I didn't know."
"There was no way you could have known." Blaine's voice was soft.
"I'm so sorry." Alex looked at him, making eye contact.
"It's okay." Blaine looked away.
"It's not. I left you there and they sent you to… I threw up when I found out. I want to throw up every time I think about it." Alex took another deep breath. "I thought you would be okay. They loved you so much and showed you off all of the time…"
"I don't know what I'm supposed to say apart from that it's okay. It's over and I'm fine." Blaine chewed on his lip.
"Are you fine? Like, really? Because I'm not fine right now. I feel like going to Westerville and… I don't know what I want to do but I'm so sorry."
Blaine looked away when Alex wiped at his eyes. "Alex…"
"I wish I hadn't left you. I should have stayed and been a big brother to you and made sure you were okay. You should have been able to come out to me and I could have told you to never, ever come out to them. And if they found out, I would have fought so hard to get your out of there. But I left you and…" Alex wiped his eyes again. "I don't know."
"You had no way of knowing I was gay just like I had no way of knowing they would react like that when I came out. It was great until it wasn't and then it was horrible." Blaine looked at him. "You shouldn't have stayed because maybe or maybe not I was gay and our parents would do that… That's ridiculous to even blame yourself."
"I should have known when I saw you. I saw you at least three times between thirteen and when you left for college but I had no idea. I should have been able to tell."
"It's okay." Blaine's voice was quiet. "I don't blame you or think you should have stayed."
"This is so ridiculous. What is wrong with me?" Alex wiped his eyes again.
Blaine looked at him. "You're here now."
"Yeah." Alex nodded and looked over at him, at a stoplight. "And I'm not going anywhere. Okay?"
Blaine swallowed hard and nodded. "Thank you."
They both fell silent, not speaking for twenty minutes.
Blaine broke the silence and said, "I don't think I told you but I was offered a job at the firm I've been working for as a lawyer… and I just found out they're opening an office in New York City, so I will get to live with Kurt again."
"That is awesome, Blaine!"
"I'm really excited about it… especially because one of my best friends is in medical school there and my other best friend recently accepted a job there after graduation, too."
"That is really, really awesome." Alex said. "Are you and Kurt going to get engaged any time soon?"
"I feel like everybody is asking that lately." Blaine laughed a bit.
Alex laughed too. "When I graduated undergrad Mia's dad made a big push for me to propose and literally everyone kept asking me if I was going to… I was going to soon anyway, but… I guess people get excited when they think it should be your time."
"I think we're enjoying where we are right now." Blaine said. "We aren't in a rush. We know it's going to happen when it's meant to happen."
"So, you all have talked about it?"
"Yeah… right before the, uhm, break. I had gotten a ring—which was stupid because I did not do it for the right reason—and he broke up with me so I threw it as his head. It was very dramatic. Then I returned it when I got back to Cambridge." Blaine admitted. "I think we were both so upset about the distance and not having as much time together as before and we both were cracking under the pressure. We haven't explicitly talked about when it may happen but I'm hoping it's a while so we can get used to living together again and get through passing the bar."
"That's completely fine. It's not the same but Mia and I had a long engagement. We planned to get married a year after I finished grad school but she got pregnant my last year and that sped the process up obviously." Alex explained.
"Were you…. Uhm, happy when she got pregnant? Even though everything that happened when you were seventeen?"
"Oh, yeah. Mia and I had always talked about having kids before she got pregnant. We both want at least four but nature was kind of drawling it out for us… But, yeah. I try not to think about that too much honestly. It sucks but it is what it is. I focus on Danny and Elena… and the one we're pregnant with right now."
"Already?!" Blaine asked.
"Yeah. I know. That six-week post pregnancy day came and literally that day." Alex laughed. "Go figure. We tried for the Elena for a couple of years and six weeks after she's born, we get pregnant again."
"That day, though? You couldn't give her an extra week?" Blaine laughed. "So, what, she's due in like six months?"
"Yeah." Alex shook his head. "Two babies in diapers at the same time. Oh my God. If it's twins, I think we'll both die."
"I mean, you guys are happy even though it's so soon, right?"
"We are exhausted but very happy." Alex nodded.
"Wow. Well, congratulations! So, you knew about it when Kurt and I were up last time?"
"We were pretty sure but hadn't been to a doctor." Alex said.
"Wow." Blaine said. "They're pretty lucky to have you as a dad, you know?"
"Thanks. I'm pretty lucky to have them as kids too, though." Alex smiled.
…
"Oh my goodness, who is this?" Carole asked when Blaine and Alex made it into Kurt's apartment building. She rushed over to look at the small baby.
Alex, not bothered at all, smiled. "This is Elena."
"How old is she?"
"Two and a half months." Alex responded, adjusting his arms so Carole could see her better.
"She is so precious."
"Thanks." Alex laughed as Elena stretched out one of her arms and yawned. "She must like the attention."
"She's so tiny." Carole continued.
"Do you want to hold her?" Alex asked. "She's not fussy unless she's hungry."
Carole let Alex pass the baby over and then expertly held Elena against her.
Blaine smiled when Kurt came over, looking worried. "Are you sure you don't need to go see a doctor, Blaine?"
"Well if I do, David is here." Blaine laughed and hugged him.
"It's like Carole forgot why we were here." Burt joked, coming up behind Blaine.
Burt pulled back and hugged Blaine.
"How are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm great minus the lack of car." Blaine hugged him back.
Burt pulled back, arms on Blaine's shoulders. "Are you?"
"No, I'm… I'm doing good. Things are kind of back to normal—working too much, studying too much, sleeping too little. You know." Blaine smiled. He glanced over at Alex, who was talking to Carole about the move and asking how Mia was doing.
Blaine noticed Kurt had the baby now and man did that make Blaine's heartbeat skip a couple of beats.
Burt pulled Blaine into another hug. "I am always here for you if you need to talk about anything."
"I know. That's why I… called you before everything. I just… needed to tell you myself." Blaine sighed and shrugged. "I didn't want you to hear that on TV. Thank you, though. Really. Your reaction and advise really helped me feel better."
Burt leaned over, kissing the top of his head – the same way that Blaine had seen him kiss Kurt when he was stressed out or upset about something. It caught Blaine off guard but in a good way.
Alex's phone rang and he stepped into the hallway. They could hear random things like "No, I promise it's not the border. If it was the border you'd be driving in the ocean. No, sorry, I shouldn't be joking… It's a toll booth… you just give them money. Yeah, they're not going to search the car…" and "Yeah, Blaine's fine." and lastly, "I'll be home soon. I love you too… no, I'll get you a card so you don't have to do the long toll line anymore… okay, bye."
Kurt pouted when Alex came over. "Do you have to go?"
"Yeah. I have a hormonal wife and a rambunctious 'almost-nine-year-old' waiting. Plus, the baby will be wanting the milk straight from the source soon." He laughed.
"Well it was so good to see you! You are all more than welcome to have Christmas with us!" Carole said.
"That's really sweet of you." Alex looked shocked. "Thank you."
"Oh, anytime." Carole beamed.
"I guess I have to give her back now." Kurt said, holding Elena out.
"When you're in Cambridge I am literally half an hour away. I mostly work from home so any time you want to come hold her is perfect." Alex told him, seeing his reluctant expression. "Trust me. You can hold her for hours. Sometimes it's that long before she'll let you put her down."
"That would probably help you get a lot done, wouldn't it?" Burt chuckled.
"You have no idea. I mean, of course I love to hold her but sometimes you need to, you know, use the bathroom."" Alex laughed. "Kurt, can you get Blaine home?"
"Of course." Kurt nodded.
"Well, have a good night everyone!" Alex said before leaving the apartment.
"That was so sweet of him to pick you up and drive you all of the way up here." Carole said before pulling Blaine into a hug. "I'm so sorry I got distracted by the baby. How are you?"
"I-I'm great. I promise." Blaine reassured her.
"Are you sure, hon?" she squeezed his shoulder.
"Yeah." Blaine laughed. "But is David here?"
"He's at work." Kurt said. "Why?"
"Well, it's okay. I can tell him later."
"Tell him what later?" Kurt looked suspicious.
"It works out great that you guys are here because I'm being hired on as a lawyer once I pass the Bar—which you already know—but there has been a new development." Blaine said excitedly, looking at Burt and Carole.
"Well, spit it out, kid." Burt said.
"They're opening a second office…" Blaine looked at Kurt. "Here."
Tears immediately filled Kurt's eyes and he threw his arms around Blaine, not saying a word. Really, he didn't even have to with how tightly he was holding Blaine. It was all unsaid.
"Oh, Blaine, that is so good." Carole said, smiling when Kurt pulled away wiping his face.
"I wanted to tell Kurt in person so I waited… and I wanted you all to know too because your support and love has played a great part in me getting here as well. It really does take a village." Blaine said. "And thank you so much for coming here to check on me. I promise I'm fine and things are good. I get to move here to be with Kurt, so nothing could really be better."
Kurt pulled him into another hug, squeezing him tighter than before.
"You two are going to make me cry!" Carole exclaimed, going over and rubbing Kurt's back.
"He's going to make me cry." Blaine squeezed Kurt back, kissing what he could reach. "I love you so much, Kurt."
Kurt responded, voice muffled.
"Burt, let's go in the kitchen and give them a few minutes alone." Carole said, patting Kurt's shoulder and then moving towards the hall.
Burt nodded, not taking his eyes off the boys until Carole nudged him.
"I love you so much." Blaine squeezed him, tearing up too. "Thank you for helping me get this far."
"I didn't even do anything! But I have been so w-worried about our jobs and living together." Kurt pulled away, eyes full of tears and face even more red than before. "But also, so happy and proud for you, but I was so scared o-of the commuting because that's a lot."
"I know. Me too. I don't want to spend that long away from you, Kurt. I miss you so much and these last two years have been so hard and emotionally exhausting but now there's light at the end of the tunnel. I miss you so much." Blaine began to cry as hard as Kurt had been, so much that it hurt his chest and his head.
"I miss you so much too. It's almost over. It's really almost over, Blaine." Kurt kissed his cheek several times, fingers going through his curls. "We're going to live together again. It'll go back to how it was before—you stealing the blankets and me complaining about your hair products everywhere."
"When you have no room to talk." Blaine let out a laugh, wiping his eyes.
"Yeah. And you not telling me when you finish the coffee so the next morning we're either late because we have to stop and get some or we're half asleep all day until we get some." Kurt wiped his own wet face and then Blaine's. "You're a mess."
"You were a mess first. I was good until you started crying." Blaine sniffled. "Now my head hurts."
"Are you sure it's not from the wreck?" Kurt asked worriedly.
"No. It's because I've cried out all of the water in my body." Blaine laughed.
Kurt hugged him again, as tight as he could. As tight as he'd hugged him when his grandmother died, after Blaine was assaulted after the party, and after Blaine had sent that video off.
Blaine returned the hug with more force.
"I love you so much." Kurt pulled back.
"I love you so much too. I'm so happy, Kurt." Blaine wiped his face again.
"Me too." Kurt grabbed his hand and squeezed tightly. "Should we go find Dad and Carole?"
Blaine nodded, taking a couple of deep breaths. He then followed Kurt into the kitchen, still hand in hand.
"You two." Carole said when she saw their faces.
"Sorry." Kurt sniffled. "I don't know why…"
"It's been a rough week." Burt said, smiling at them. "Blaine's rough week is your rough week, kid. That's how you two are."
Carole nodded, smiling when Blaine leaned against Kurt.
"My face hurts." Blaine said after a few seconds. "I'm sorry. I didn't think saying that would… get so emotional."
"Nothing makes me happier to see you kids back together again." Burt looked between them two. "You two have a true love. Remember when I asked you that question, Blaine?"
"Yeah." Blaine nodded, wiping his face once again. "I do."
"What?" Kurt asked, looking at Blaine.
"I'll tell you later." Blaine kissed Kurt's cheek. "Can we get food? I am starving."
"Yes!" Carole said. "Let's find somewhere and celebrate!"
Long Time Coming
"I can't believe they are paying moving costs and everything." Kurt said the next morning, sitting on his bed in only a pair of Blaine's boxers.
"I know. It's insane." Blaine, who had not yet talked himself into getting out of bed, rolled onto his stomach and looked at Kurt.
"You really did it, Blaine. This time next year you will have passed the Bar and will probably have your own cases." Kurt gave him a goofy smile. "You look so good in suits, too."
"I still have to graduate." Blaine laughed and pushed himself into a sitting position. "This time next year you could be famous."
"I don't think it works like that." Kurt pushed his arm a bit.
"We'll get there." Blaine smiled sleepily back at him.
"Yeah." Kurt sighed a bit.
"You okay?"
"Yeah." Kurt scooted over to him. "It's not as easy to find a job in what I chose. I don't even know if this internship at Marc Jacobs is even going to get me anywhere."
Blaine squeezed his leg, smiling. "Don't worry. I know you've got this."
"New York City is expensive to live in without steady income… and my loans are through the roof." Kurt said. "I'm getting nervous."
"I will take care of the loans and the rent." Blaine promised.
Kurt sat up straight. "What?"
"I will take care of your loans."
"No." Kurt shook his head.
"I'm going to start out making good money and once I pass the bar it's going to go up significantly. I'm going to take it in next-next February and I'll know if I passed by the end of April." Blaine said.
"No. No, no, no." Kurt stood up.
"Look, I'll just do the payments until you get a good paying job."
"Blaine, you can't. That puts…" Kurt sighed.
"Puts what?"
"You shouldn't be paying my bills."
"Fine. Your dad put away money for a house. Use that and I'll buy a house."
"That isn't the point, Blaine. We're not getting married."
"Well we could have been." Blaine didn't even know he'd thought it until it came out.
"I…" Kurt closed his mouth, not knowing what to say.
"I'm not trying to buy you anything. I'm trying to help you with your school loans." Blaine said, taking his time and making sure nothing came out wrong. "Marriage has nothing to do with it. I don't have to be married to you to know that you're not going to skip off when your debt is paid or… or… I don't know. I trust you."
Kurt looked at him.
"I want to take care of you the same way I've wanted to take care of you since the first day I met you. Pay me back if you want but I'm not letting you spiral into debt when I will have the means. Kurt, that inheritance money is going to be wired into my account in three days. Trust me, helping you with a couple of loan payments is not that big of a deal." Blaine said gently. "And for what it's worth, we could have been married now or very soon but we broke up and that's okay. We are back on track and I know everybody else is getting engaged and married, but we are going to have our time too."
"I know we will."
"Your family fed me for a year, Kurt. You all took me into your home and… they're my family now. And we are family. You are my family. When you have the money for it, pay your loans. But until then I want to cover it for you."
"What if something happens again?" Kurt asked. "We haven't lived together in three years."
"Nothing will happen."
"If—"
"If something happens and we split up again, it is my gift to you. No strings attached." Blaine said. "But I'm not going anywhere, and I know you aren't either."
"I'm going to marry you." Kurt said, looking Blaine in the eye.
"I know." Blaine smiled.
Kurt smiled back, looking more at ease.
"Let me do it." Blaine's voice was gentle. "I want to. I like knowing you're taken care of and that you don't have to worry about money."
"I want to pay back all of it. We need to keep track. I'm serious." Kurt said. "I will pay you back."
"Kurt, you really don't need to worry about it." Blaine looked at him.
"Why shouldn't I worry about it? That's too much money to throw out the window."
"It's not throwing it out the window. It's for your education." Blaine didn't skip a beat. "Besides, in three days they are depositing an eight million dollar into my checking account."
"Wait, what?"
"The paperwork cleared. They got what they needed." Blaine looked nervous. "I thought it was going to be two million or something… apparently he set up two accounts the day Alex was born. They planned for two kids… so it accumulated a lot over the thirteen years I wasn't even alive."
Kurt looked at him, mouth hanging open in shock. Eight million?
Blaine bit his lip—which he had been doing a lot lately. "I don't know what to do with it. I mean, I know I don't want to use it anytime soon... and I want a good reason to get into it for the first time. A big fuck you to my dad would be great about now."
"Don't use it. Let it sit." Kurt said gently.
"Yeah…" Blaine nodded.
"Wow." Kurt took in a deep breath. "Blaine…"
Blaine shrugged, looking him in the eye.
"You should get a financial advisor or something." Kurt said.
Blaine covered his mouth, covering a laugh. "I don't have the money for that right now."
Kurt looked at him and then burst into laughter. Of course, Blaine started laughing too.
"I love you so much." Kurt reached over, wrapping one of Blaine's curls around his finger.
"I love you so much too, Kurt." Blaine smiled.
"I was going to get our breakfast this morning but considering… I think you should." Kurt laughed this time.
"I guess I could." Blaine mock sighed.
"So, you're going to let us have a house with our red door and porch swing, right?" Kurt asked, eyes bright.
"That was actually my first thought… you know, after my brains exploded and Wes put them back in." Blaine admitted. "He was with me when I got the call. AJ was too but she was passed out on the couch."
"What did Wes say?"
"He asked if he could borrow $20." Blaine laughed.
"He is very good at diffusing situations when you freak out."
"Yeah, he always has been… I know sometimes he comes off like a jerk or someone who likes to goof off… but he is such a good person. He has such a big heart." Blaine said. "AJ is very lucky."
"Blaine, the way he looks at her…You can just see it."
"I know." Blaine sighed. "The fourteen-year-old in me wanted that look so bad… for like three weeks…"
"Wait, you had a thing for Wes?"
"He was so sweet after the Sadie Hawkins dance thing. He and David came to see me in the hospital. I had talked to David a few times but hadn't met Wes. I don't even remember what he said. I remember being upset and he said something. He was so sweet, though, and you could tell he meant it because of his eyes." Blaine looked thoughtful. "I don't know, but I ended up getting a crush on him. It didn't last very long, though."
"When you three talked to me the first time, I could see that in his eyes too." Kurt said.
"But yeah. She's really lucky to have him." Blaine shrugged. "I knew this was going to happen. He'd fool around and then… find the girl he would fall in love with… and that'd be it."
"You were right." Kurt smiled.
"I want to know the deal with David. Texting a girl but not seeing her. He doesn't do the whole fooling around thing."
"Maybe they are actually just friends?"
"She has his address. He's weird about girls knowing where he lives. Some crazy girl in undergrad or something."
Kurt pointed at Blaine. "You want it to be a girl he's involved with."
"Doesn't everyone deserve that, though?" Blaine tilted his head.
"Yes. Honestly, though, I don't think he has time for it. He works 7 days a week. He does shifts at the ER and then at the doctor's office. Sometimes I go two days without seeing him. I don't know when he finds time to sleep."
"I don't know. You're probably right." Blaine sighed and then shrugged. "I'd still like to think he's getting some, though."
"That was so inappropriate." Kurt covered his face. "You've gotten too close to me."
Blaine grinned and then kissed his cheek. "I love you."
"I love you too, Blaine." Kurt leaned over and kissed him.
Long Time Coming
"You are not going to lab."
"I have to go to lab, Wes. Don't be an ass."
"You passed out."
"I didn't pass out. I fell asleep standing up and started to fall."
Blaine came into the house, two huge books in his arms. He wasn't sure what was going on but he knew he didn't want to be involved.
It was too late, though. The screen door had slammed—if he left, they would know.
"That's passing out, Alicia. Either you stay home and rest or we're both going to miss lab because I will take you to an emergency room."
"That's ridiculous. You know I don't need to go to the emergency room. It was just too hot in the room."
"It's October! It was freezing!"
Blaine entered the living room as quietly as he could. If he was silent maybe they wouldn't notice him trying to get to the stairs.
"Blaine! She passed out after standing up from lecture this morning and now she wants to go to lab. The labs are burning up." Wes said. "What do you think?"
"I feel fine now." AJ protested.
"You don't feel fine. You look flushed and tired."
"I'm almost seven months pregnant. Wes! Of course, I look flushed and tired. I throw up more than I take in five days a week." AJ looked at Blaine. "What do you think?"
"I'm Switzerland."
"Oh no you are not." AJ scoffed. "You don't want to disagree with Wes because he's been acting weirdly protective."
"You are carrying my child. Don't I have the right to be?"
Adrian came in behind Blaine, nearly bumping into him. "Sorry!"
"They have to be logical about everything." AJ said. "We will let them decide."
"Oh God. What?" Adrian groaned. "I have to leave in two minutes."
"Yeah, we all know you get lunches with your boyfriend on Wednesdays. How cute." AJ glared.
"I will go through this again. She passed out after getting up from lecture this morning and now she wants to go to lab. The labs are burning up and her excuse was she passed out because she was too hot… by the way, it's freezing in the lecture hall." Wes said.
"Stay home." Adrian said without hesitation.
"I can't!" AJ snapped. "Plus, you went to classes with the flu last Thursday and Friday. You can't talk."
"It's also with the same professor from class when she passed out. She told AJ to not come to lab today." Wes added calmly.
"You just want to get ahead and get Valedictorian!" AJ pointed at him. "And you're not going to!"
"If you think I'm giving that up because you're having my baby, sorry about your luck. I wouldn't need to have you miss labs to get Valedictorian. I'm always two points ahead anyway."
"Did you really say that?" She stared at him.
"Do you think I'm giving that up because you're pregnant? Sorry but no."
"This is ridiculous." Adrian cut in. "AJ, you need to stay home. The professor said you could so do it."
"If it was Wes and he wanted to go, you'd be like 'Oh man up and go' but women are fragile little eggs waiting to crack open." AJ glared.
"Uhm, no. It's because you are pregnant and you look super pale." Adrian snapped.
Blaine look at him, surprised. He had never seen Adrian be less than sweet to anyone. Then again, they were best friends.
"Don't you get sassy with me. I've been in your bedroom at your parents' house."
"Ooooh. I'm scared now. Tell everyone about my Harry Potter posters. Daniel Radcliffe is hot. I'm not even embarrassed." Adrian made his way upstairs.
"I hate when he 'uhm's me." AJ huffed.
"You said to let them decide. They did." Wes grabbed his backpack off the floor.
"Blaine didn't decide." She looked at Blaine.
"I agree with them. Sorry." Blaine admitted.
"Fine." AJ admitted defeat and sat down on the couch. "But if I was a guy you would be telling me to man up."
"No. I do it with Kurt too." Blaine laughed.
"Thank you." Wes looked at Blaine. He then went over and kissed the top of AJ's head. "Get some rest."
"Okay. Sorry." She kissed him. "Bye."
"Can I sit with you?" Blaine asked her, coming behind Wes.
"Yeah." She nodded.
Wes mouthed 'thank you' to Blaine again before heading out the door.
"Do you need anything?" Blaine asked, placing his textbooks on the coffee table. He then sat next to her.
AJ leaned over, relaxing against him.
They had definitely sat pretty close before, but this was a first.
"Do you feel okay?"
"Yeah. I'm just tired, fat, and my body hurts." AJ laughed a bit.
Blaine snorted. "You aren't fat. You're pregnant."
"Since I can't do school work you can't either. Tell me about Kurt." She made herself more comfortable.
"Tell you about Kurt?"
"You know… how you met, started dating, fell in love." AJ glanced up at him.
"Why?" Blaine looked confused.
"Because there is nothing good on TV, I'm supposed to be in a lab, and if I try to do homework instead of rest Wes will probably kill me when he gets back." She sighed. "He's being so... extra right now."
Blaine laughed. "You're pregnant with his child. I think he has a good excuse to be a little extra."
"Yeah, I guess… but tell me about Kurt."
"Okay, well we met in high school."
"Aw, did you go to the same school?" she asked, snuggling up and making herself more comfortable.
"For a little bit, yeah." Blaine nodded, not even phased by the snuggling. "You know about the Warblers and Wes' gavel. Well, he was in a glee club at his own school… so he came to spy on us."
"I don't believe that." AJ shook her head.
"Dalton had a strict no bullying policy and Kurt was having a rough time. I think it was more of that… but the Warblers were going to do a song and he came up right before it… and then we performed Teenage Dream." Blaine said absent mindedly.
"Did you like him at first?" she asked.
"I don't think I knew it yet. But that's how we met. We got together after his bird died and we… made out."
"What?"
"I know." Blaine cringed. "I went to comfort him and made this ridiculous speech that I can barely remember and then we were both kissing and… we never really stopped."
"His bird died and you went and assaulted him!"
"You sound like David and Wes. I know!" Blaine covered his face. "But he sang Black Bird for the bird earlier in the day and it just all hit me at once… and that feeling has never gone away…"
"Oh, God. You don't remember any of what you said? Was it sweet? I need details here."
"I remember saying 'you move me' right before we kissed." Blaine smiled. He hadn't thought about that in forever.
"If this wasn't over a dead bird it would be so cute. You couldn't have waited a day or two?"
"No! Otherwise I would have been an idiot and not said anything." Blaine said.
"So, he came because of bullying?"
"Yeah." Blaine nodded. "He came to Dalton for a while but ultimately ended up going back to his school. It was a lot harder to find time to make out when we had to drive an hour and a half to get to each other."
AJ smiled. "That's cute. When did you fall in love?"
"I think it all happened with Black Bird… as stupid as that sounds. Once I knew, I knew… if that makes sense." Blaine looked thoughtful. "There have been times I've fallen more in love with him. I always feel like I can't love him more than I already do and then he'll do something and… I do love him more."
"When are you two going to get engaged?" she asked eagerly. "Are you going to propose to him?"
Blaine took a deep breath. "I don't know… I thought we were close at one point and then he broke up with me… I returned the ring."
"I'm sorry." AJ looked up at him again.
"No, don't be. Everything is healthier now but I don't think I can get another ring and…" He trailed off.
"It's still pretty fresh… You could change your mind."
"Yeah, maybe." Blaine shrugged a little bit and then attempted to turn the conversation away from he and Kurt. "So, spill on you and Wes?"
"I should have expected that." She pushed herself into a sitting position.
"You two definitely hated each other before you moved in… and for a while after that."
"I don't know… One night, I saw a different part of him." She looked thoughtful.
"What happened?"
"The, uhm… night when… you got hurt. We don't have to talk about it, though." She looked down.
"It's fine. What about that night?"
"Wes dropped everything to get to you when Adrian called my phone. He was so careful with you and so protective… and sweet. He wasn't being cocky or annoying… and that night he stayed in your room with you and you were curled up with your head on his chest." She sat up. "I just didn't expect it out of him."
"He has a soft spot for people he cares about." Blaine nodded. "Okay, so, how did it happen?"
"About a week after that we got into an argument over something stupid and then I kissed him. I kissed him. Then we made out—not much more than that. The next day he said it couldn't happen again. It happened a few more times and he got really irritated saying we couldn't do it anymore… A couple of weeks later he came to get me out of the snow and his car got hit. I was so upset and I knew he was but he acted like it was nothing…"
Blaine laughed a bit. "Yeah. Around you."
"He can come off as an asshole but when you look past the school competition thing… he's really sweet, he cares a lot, he'll do anything to help someone else... even people he doesn't even know."
"He's a really great person." Blaine smiled. "When did you start dating officially?"
"You know, we were talking about that the other day… we never even 'officially' said we were together. I guess we didn't have to say it because we knew." AJ looked thoughtful and rubbed her stomach. "But we have to come up with a fake story incase this little one asks."
"When did you know you loved him?" Blaine tilted his head.
"The day he came to get my car out of the snow… before his car got hit. I don't know why that was the moment, but it was for me." She looked down at her engagement ring, twisting it on her finger. "That's why it got really awkward after that. I knew he had already said we couldn't be together period and I just had the realization that I loved him."
"You all were seriously avoiding each other. It was very stressful for Adrian and I." Blaine said.
"Do you know when he knew he was in love? Has he ever said?" she asked.
"Last winter break. Adrian and I had already caught our flights home. You two were at home and talking about something science-y and he said it 'hit him right in the chest'."
"Really?" she smiled.
"Yeah. He knew." Blaine nodded. "It was a couple of days before the car accident, I guess. You two fell hard for each other at practically the same time."
Her smile grew. "Do you think I was too mean with him because he didn't let me go to lab?"
Blaine laughed. "No. He got you pregnant and you are still pregnant. There is no 'too mean' right now for you… Plus sometimes he acts super bossy and it's annoying."
"I like the way you think."
Blaine carefully moved off the couch. "Want anything from the kitchen?"
"No but thank you." She smiled.
Blaine went into the kitchen and grabbed an apple and a water bottle. He bit into his apple as he walked into the living room. AJ was fast asleep on the couch.
"Ugh these two are so cute. It makes me sick." Blaine muttered, sitting in one of the arm chairs and tucking his legs underneath him. He was supposed to be keeping an eye on her after all.
He was about to reach for the remote control (UK was playing!) when his phone buzzed. He hopped up, going into the kitchen before it could wake AJ.
"Hey, you!" Blaine hopped onto the kitchen table, his legs hanging down the side.
"How are you? I wanted to check in. I'm on my way to my next class." Kurt asked.
"Kurt, I told you that you don't have to keep checking on me." Blaine smiled. Although it wasn't necessary, he did love getting a little bit of extra time with Kurt—even if it was on the phone.
"I want to hear the sound of you voice."
"Uh huh." Blaine laughed. "I'm fine. Nothing new and devastating has come out… well, Winnie pulled out the cushion in my new running shoes... That sucks because they were more expensive than I'll admit."
"Do you even have time to run?" Kurt asked, his tone sweet—and just a tad sarcastic.
"Yeah, I know. You're right." Blaine took a drink from his water bottle. "I like to put on the illusion that I'm trying to lose the ten pounds I've gained."
"What are you doing?"
"At home with AJ. I'm supposed to be studying but I might be irresponsible and watch part of the UK game before I go to CMJ. Speaking of, can you look at places for apartments? I have no idea where anything is and don't have time to research online."
"Yeah. I think I can tonight."
"It doesn't have to be tonight."
"No, it actually gives me something to do when I wait for the night class. Alec has a longer walk than I do. I hate being that awkward one sitting in the hall without anybody to talk to." Kurt reassured him. "Do you know what you're doing at work today?"
"Not really. Bob's son's wife had her baby yesterday. That was a mouthful." Blaine put his apple down. He doubted Kurt would want to hear him snapping down on it.
"That's awesome! Are you going in still?"
"Yeah. It's money. I need money for food." Blaine laughed. "If he didn't leave me anything, I'll find something to work on."
"Speaking of money, what is going on with the car?"
"I don't like adulting. I didn't have to do this myself last time." Blaine sighed.
"Wait, you did call them, right?"
"Yeah the day of the accident. I'm waiting on the check to clear and then I'm going to go buy something else. I miss Betsy."
"Did you hear anything else about your inheritance money?"
"Oh, it's in there already. I guess the people at the bank were slow or something. They acted like it would take longer to clear." Blaine sighed again. "I guess I need to deal with that too. It can sit in there, right?"
"I don't know why you're asking me." Kurt laughed. "But I know you definitely don't want it in the checking account you use for your bills."
"I need an adultier adult." Blaine hopped off the table and peeked into the living room—AJ was still asleep.
"What about Alex?"
"I don't know. I haven't talked to him since the other day… I don't know what to say after all the stuff we talked about, you know? Do I say 'hey, what's up?' or do I say 'Do you want to exchange horrible stories about our dad'? It's weird. I don't know how to have a brother."
"I know you're busy now but you should make more of an effort. He did move back and, from the conversation you all had, I have a feeling it was probably to be closer to you."
"Yeah. It's just weird. I should call him or something. Danny usually calls but I have a feeling Alex is trying to leave me alone."
"I think he knows you're busy. I doubt he's asking Danny to not call because of the other day."
"Maybe I'm being paranoid." Blaine took another drink from his water bottle before hopping back onto the table and swinging his legs a bit.
"I think we should visit this weekend when I'm here."
"Yeah, maybe." Blaine hesitated. "Do you remember our first kiss?"
"Of course I remember our first kiss. Why?"
"AJ was asking about how we got together and everything. It's not like I forgot but I guess I don't really think about it a lot." Blaine said. "I wanted to tell you that I was so happy that day and I'm still that happy any time around you. I feel so lucky that I still have you."
Kurt was silent for a few seconds before he said, "You still take my breath away after almost eight years. I'm so lucky too."
"Are you okay?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah… it's been a long day already and that… made it a lot better. Thank you." Kurt sounded like he may or may not have sniffled.
"I love you so much." Blaine's voice was gentle. "I can't wait to see you Friday night."
"I love you so much too, but you have to not make me want to cry in public." Kurt laughed.
"Aww, Kurt."
"I just… don't know how I would have been able to do this without you. What if we hadn't gotten back together?" Kurt asked. "You're such an important part of my life. I don't want to ever lose you."
"You won't." Blaine promised. "We're back together now and we are always going to be."
"I was such an idiot."
"I was too. I shouldn't have stormed off and got on a plane. I should have sat outside, calmed down, and come back inside to talk. I get too emotional when I'm upset." Blaine said. "It's over now, though."
"Yeah. I love you so much. I'm so lucky to have someone like you... to have you." Kurt sniffled a bit again.
"I'm the lucky one, silly." Blaine smiled.
"Hey, Alec is coming so I better go. Can I call you again later? Or can you call me when you're done with the internship?"
"Of course. I love you, Kurt."
"I love you too. Bye."
Blaine ended the call and went back into the living room to sit in the armchair. He pulled up his photos and went all the way back to when they first started dating—he never deleted any of the photos they had taken together.
"What are you doing?" Wes grinned, coming in from the kitchen about an hour later.
"Looking at pictures of Kurt and I from forever ago." Blaine looked up. "I guess I should go to CMJ since you're back now. "
"She fell asleep. I knew she didn't feel good." Wes said. "Thanks for staying a bit later. I appreciate it."
"I think she's tired more than anything. We talked for a bit, I went to get an apple, and she was fast asleep when I came back." Blaine pocketed his phone and stood up. "Don't worry too much… but I still don't think she should have gone to lab."
"Yeah." Wes smiled. "See you tonight?"
"For sure. Same time, same place." Blaine grabbed his bag. "She'll probably be hungry when she gets up."
"When isn't she?" Wes snorted. He then jumped when a couch pillow flew at his head.
From the couch, AJ gave a very cheerful "See you later, Blaine!"
…
"I thought you weren't going to be here today!" Blaine said, walking into Bob's office.
"I haven't been here too long. They took the baby home a few hours ago and the DA apparently wants to see me tomorrow. That's always fun." Bob said, looking in a filing cabinet.
"Can I help you find what you're looking for?"
"You wouldn't know it even if you saw it." Bob closed the top drawer quickly (and loudly) before moving down to the next one. "Adjective law. Go."
"What?" Blaine asked, confused.
"Tell me about it. What do you think it is?"
"It deals with procedural rules of evidence and practice."
"What else?"
"Uh…" Blaine looked confused. Bob had never quizzed him on anything like this.
"Come on. I know you haven't been out of class long enough to forget. It's only 5:00."
"Pleadings." Blaine said.
"Good. Demurrer. Shoot." Bob moved down to the next drawer, groaning.
"Formal response from the court after a dismissal is proposed because even if what is being said is true, there isn't enough information to carry out a lawsuit."
"Prima facie. Damnit."
"Refers to what can be presumed after the first disclosure."
"Name the different types of torts."
"Oh, God." Blaine groaned.
"We all hate them, but you need to know them." Bob pulled a few papers out, looked them over, and tossed them back in. "Motherfuck."
"Negligence, intentional, liability."
"What liability?"
"Things."
Bob looked up. "Things? You're almost halfway done with your last year at Harvard and you give me things?"
"Product liability."
"Thank you." Bob looked back down into the drawer. "Keep going."
"Dignitary. Invasion of property, defamation, blah blah."
"I suggest you not go into tort law, Blaine."
"I wasn't planning on it. Why the quizzing?"
"You can help go through my paperwork or file things for me all you want but that's not the important stuff. That's why we have interns." Bob looked at him. "What should be a requirement for internships is to make sure you leave knowing more than you did coming in. Do you know anything you didn't know and that you didn't learn in school?"
"Not doing paperwork obviously. I feel like I learned more about the 'real job' sitting in on the meetings and conference calls, though." Blaine looked at him.
"Ask questions. Ask me questions, ask your professors questions, ask any lawyer in here questions. You'll learn more that way. You've got another sixteen months before you can take the bar and that's plenty of time to learn stuff that you won't learn from doing this regular stuff. Thank fucking God." He pulled out a folder and began flipping through the contents.
"What is that?"
"A case I helped work on ten years ago has been reopened and the lovely DA needs it." Bob threw it on his desk.
"I take it you don't like the DA?"
"Let me put it this way. If I was ever trapped in a room with her, I wouldn't come out alive. She's not my biggest fan." Bob said. "Okay. My wife told me if I'm not home by seven I have to repaint the house again and it's 6:30. I will see you tomorrow from ten until one, Blaine."
"Congratulations on your grandson." Blaine smiled.
"Congratulations on recalling all of the torts." Bob gave Blaine's shoulder a squeeze. "Thank you, Blaine."
"You're welcome." Blaine smiled again.
Bob smiled back and then left.
Long Time Coming
"Kurt, I want you to know that you have the most comfortable boyfriend ever."
"Partner." Blaine said from the other side of the kitchen.
"Partner. Sorry." AJ sat at the table by Kurt.
"Hi, AJ." Kurt smiled. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing good." She smiled as Adrian came in. He went over to the refrigerator where Blaine was. "Just because you keep looking doesn't mean it will appear. Trust me. I've tried."
Kurt bit back a laugh.
"What? Didn't you know I was clearly coming over here for this pepper?" Adrian held up a habanero.
"Right." AJ nodded. "That specific pepper?"
"Yes." Adrian said. "That's right."
"Take a bite then." AJ sat up straight in her chair.
"Fine." Adrian took a rather large bite and said, "Oh my God. Bad decision. I'm going to go have an asthma attack now."
"He's not serious and even if he was, his inhaler is in his bag." AJ said as Blaine handed Adrian the milk jug. "I don't know why he takes a bet when he can't handle it."
Adrian glared at her before drinking a considerable amount of milk straight from the jug.
Kurt watched, amused, as Matt came in the back door.
"I don't think you'll be getting mouth action, Matt. Sorry." AJ smiled sweetly. "Ooh, you're even in your sexy uniform."
"Why can he not refuse a bet?" Matt asked, choosing to ignore AJ's comment. "Hi, Kurt."
Kurt smiled and waved.
"I don't know. It's been that way since freshman year at college." AJ shrugged. "But he always brings them on himself so don't feel too bad for him."
"Feel bad for me. My tongue in on fire." Adrian said.
"Why would you eat a raw habanero? Did you not expect that?" Matt asked from the table.
"I mean… kind of. Not the point." Adrian coughed. "It's a bet."
"Look, he's in his uniform." AJ pointed at Matt. "You all can go roleplay now."
This time Matt began to cough.
"Just ignore her. She's horny because she hasn't had sex in five weeks." Adrian gave her a pointed look.
AJ pulled a face but did not disagree. "Sorry, Matt."
"It's okay. I can never come see Adrian after work without going home and changing clothes, but that's okay." Matt still looked embarrassed.
"You're being mean." Blaine said to AJ. "Are you hungry?"
"I mean… I always am. I feel like I'm eating for four." She looked at Adrian. "When you come home can you bring me something? Wait, are you implying I'm acting this way because I'm hungry? If so, you are probably right."
Adrian looked at Blaine and gestured at AJ. "Do you see what you get when your best friend is a girl?"
"Woman."
Blaine laughed, going over and sitting on Kurt's lap.
"In all seriousness I'm getting back late. It takes a few hours to get to the police roleplaying center." Adrian grinned.
"Oh my God." Matt covered his face. "I'm leaving."
"No but seriously. He can turn the cop lights and siren on. You could get to Fazolis without even having to stop at red lights." AJ said. "Then you could go roleplay."
"That is actually not something we can do when it's for getting to a restaurant." Matt lowered his hands. "Could I get away with it? Probably. But no."
"See? If you hadn't teased him, he probably would have said yes." Adrian came over, taking a small bag from in front of Matt. He looked in it and said, "God, I love you."
Blaine raised his eyebrow.
"It's one of the cookies Matt almost stole from him when they first really met." AJ told Kurt. "It's actually a cute story."
"I think so too." Matt said, turning his walkie talkie off when someone started talking on the other end.
"Yeah. He tried to steal my cookie and now he brings them to me anytime he goes there without me." Adrian smiled. "Okay, enough socializing, let's go."
Blaine snorted.
Matt stood. "See you all later."
"Fazolis when you bring him home tonight!" AJ said.
"I won't be coming home tonight." Adrian winked at her and held the back door open for Matt.
"He may be coming home tonight." Matt said.
"Nope. I'm not. I promise." Adrian walked out and closed the door before Matt could protest.
AJ pushed herself out of the chair. "I'm going to go study. You two have fun."
"Bye." Kurt smiled as she walked out. "Is it always that eventful?"
"Not usually. AJ found out Matt gets embarrassed when she brings up sex, though, and she likes to bring it up."
"I can see why she and Wes work well together." Kurt leaned over and kissed Blaine.
"I missed you." Blaine pulled back. "I'm sorry I'm so needy right now."
"You aren't needy." Kurt stood and held out his hand. "Do you want to go look at apartments online?"
"Sure." Blaine followed Kurt to his room.
"I wasn't really sure what the budget is so it was hard." Kurt grabbed Blaine's laptop as though it was his own and then sat on the bed.
Blaine sat as well, scooting up to the headboard with his arm pressed against Kurt's. "I'm not really sure either but David already told me it's going to be super expensive… which I assumed."
Kurt nodded. "We should plan to stay there for a long time. Moving is exhausting."
"Yeah, I hate moving. It was exhausting getting AJ and Wes set up in the same room before Adrian moved in… and I wasn't even the one moving." Blaine rested his head on Kurt's shoulder.
"Okay… how many bedrooms?"
"I mean we only need one but considering the amount of clothes we both have, we should probably get two bedrooms?" Blaine said, more asking than answering Kurt's question.
"We need a budget here." Kurt looked at him. "Maybe we should stay with David until I get a job and can help?"
"I am not living with David again. We will figure it out." Blaine didn't even hesitate. "We are getting an apartment for us."
"You keep saying we'll figure it out. We'll handle it later. We need to do it soon, though. It's New York City, Blaine."
"$9,000."
Kurt looked at him like he was crazy.
"I should be starting out with about $12,307 a month if I did my math right."
"That's… I mean, if I'd done the math, I could have figured that out. A month?"
"Pay a lot to go to school, make a lot when you get out?" Blaine shrugged.
"What about $5,000?"
Blaine gave him a look.
"That is so much money. This is stressing me out." Kurt set the laptop at the end of the bed and took a deep breath.
"Kurt, you could have a job lined up next week. That will be my income plus yours." Blaine's voice was gentle.
"But what if I don't get one right away?" Kurt asked.
"You will. I know you will. Even if it was worst case scenario, I would just pay it. Worst, worst case scenario I get into that inheritance." Blaine kept eye contact. "Last December a school in California offered to bring you to their school, to pay your way, and pay for the rest of the degree. Do you seriously think you won't get an offer?"
"I don't know. Other people have gotten offers already and it's not even the second semester yet." Kurt took another deep breath. "I don't want to talk about this right now."
"Hey." Blaine grabbed his hand. "Please don't doubt yourself when you know I'm right. I'm always right."
Kurt tried not to but smile.
"You will." Blaine moved and pulled Kurt into a hug.
"But what if I don't?"
"We'll move back to Lima and stay with Burt, Carole, and Melody." Blaine's tone was serious.
Kurt pulled back. "That isn't even funny."
"It's kind of funny. Burt can walk in on us going at it in your old bed a few more times. Maybe Carole will even get pregnant again. Who knows what will happen in Lima?" Blaine grinned.
"Oh my God." Kurt rolled his eyes but couldn't help but smile a bit.
"We could also say screw it and live in the sewer."
"I hate you." Kurt laughed.
"Those are about as ridiculous as you thinking that you won't get a job. I bet you my inheritance that one day you'll make more than me." Blaine said cheerfully. "And then I can live off of you for a bit."
Kurt covered his face again and sighed—exactly like how Burt would anytime Kurt annoyed him.
"Uh oh. You're turning into your dad." Blaine grinned.
"Okay, fine, stop. Just put in $9,000 and let's get a move on." Kurt threw his arms up. "I think you've been around Wes too much."
Blaine pulled the laptop over, humming.
Kurt reached up, ruffling Blaine's hair. "I love you."
"I love you too." Blaine leaned over, kissing him. "Ooh, if we get somewhere with a gym I can pretend I'm active again."
Kurt took the laptop from him and selected gym as a requirement.
"Can we maybe visit some places next weekend? I'll come up. Or I could probably swing coming up Wednesday. Bob usually has all of his meetings with clients that day so he wouldn't miss me anyway."
"Sure." Kurt smiled and handed him the laptop. "Here are the options that are near where the office will be and where Marc Jacobs is."
"Oh my God, is that a dinosaur sculpture in that lobby?" Blaine pointed. "I want to go there to see it in person."
"If you don't be serious, you can have the laptop back."
"I'm dead serious. It's a dinosaur sculpture in a lobby." Blaine leaned over, clicking 'see this place.' "Also, those windows are amazing."
Kurt leaned over and kissed him. "I love you, Blaine."
"I love you too." Blaine kissed him back and then pointed to another one. "There's a dog park right across the street from this one. Kreacher and Winnie would like that."
"That one actually is in the budget too." Kurt looked over. "Let's go see that one too."
"Oh my God, is that an alcohol store in the building?!" Blaine asked. "I don't even have to leave to buy alcohol?!"
"Yes, Blaine. It is an alcohol store." Kurt laughed.
"New York City is going to be amazing!"
