Before we begin, I want to explain a few more things about the story so that you guys know more about what you're getting into before making a huge commitment.

1) None of the humans are going to be swapped out, as it was implied in the last chapter. It'll only be digimon this time. However, if anyone wants to experiment with the idea, they are welcome to.

2) This story will cover all of the seasons by episode if possible, so this will be a long story as it goes on. If it would be easier for you guys to split this story into different seasons, please let me know. I'll make a decision if enough people ask me to.

Side Note: Every season is also going to have its own theme song, usually different from the canon. Those will be noted at the beginning of each season, if you want to listen to those.

3) Pairings will show up! As of the moment nothing is certain but there might also be slash later on besides the regular ones. Just a warning for those not comfortable with it. Once there's a decision, I'll let you guys know.

Now that that's over with, please enjoy this new chapter!

Digimon Adventure

Seven Out of Eight Ain't Bad

One minute, it had been snowing in the middle of summer. The next, he'd been swallowed up by a tidal wave and now found himself in a forest. Tai had never been through something so weird in his life. Then again, those devices that came out of the sky like meteors competed for the top spot pretty well. Tai patted his belt and found the device still attached. In fact, he didn't even feel the slightest bit wet, which shouldn't be possible because of the wave. Things were just getting better and better…

"Might as well take a look around." he mused to himself. It would be a good idea to get a look at his surroundings. He began climbing a nearby tree, trying to get as high as he could. As he went higher, sometimes he would see cables hanging from the trees, as if someone had thought it would be a good idea to string phone lines between the branches. It certainly made his climbing easier. Once he was at a high enough elevation, he could see that he wasn't at camp anymore. Everywhere was forest, forest, and oh yeah, forest. But there was a big mountain in the background, and beyond that was the sea. Last time he checked, camp was nowhere near the ocean. So where was he? Tai took out his mini-scope and began surveying what he could. Wherever he ended up, there had to be a way home, right? Something tells me a compass isn't gonna help much…

"Hey. Whatcha doin'?"

"Just looking around." Tai said, then blinked. Who had said that? He looked down. Sitting on a branch below him was a grey seal-like creature with a flash of orange fur on the top of its head. It appeared to be smiling as it spoke again in a high male voice, "See anythin' interestin'?"

"AHHH!" Tai jumped, almost falling off the branch. He managed to hit the tree trunk and grab a cable, though, so he didn't actually manage to fall. This seemed to alarm the seal creature, as it suddenly began to float and approached much too close to Tai's liking.

"You okay? Didn't scare you, did I?" it asked.

"What do you think?!" Tai exclaimed, wanting to get as far from the creature as possible.

"Sorry!" The creature looked sheepish and rubbed one of the flippers behind its head, a gesture Tai knew well from having done it so often, "Anyway, I'm Bukamon. Who're you? You don't look like anybody I've seen before."

"Uh…" Should he really introduce himself? The creature—Bukamon—didn't seem to bear any ill will towards him. Tai straightened up, "Kamiya Taichi. You can just call me Tai. Do you, um, know where we are?"

"Well, you want specifics or general stuff?"

"Anything'll do." And it really would.

"Then welcome to File Island!" Bukamon clapped, "Right now we're in Silver Forest."

"That's…not very helpful." Bukamon looked confused.

"You wanted to know where we were, though."

"Yeah, but I've never heard of File Island or Silver Forest."

"Oh." Bukamon rested his head against a flipper, the other crossed under, as if he was leaning on a table, "I'm sorry I can't tell you much else. I've lived here my whole life. Don't know much about anythin' besides File Island."

"Well, are there any humans on this island?" Tai asked. He hoped so. Bukamon was once again confused.

"Humans? What is a 'humans?'" Ohhhh, things just took a turn for the worse.

"Look, I've gotta go now." Tai began climbing down, "See you later, Bukamon!"

"Wait a sec! Tai!" The tiny creature floated after him, "Since you're not from around here, you're gonna need a guide, right? I can do that! There's a lot of dangerous digimon out here!"

"Digi-whats?" Tai paused, blinking up at Bukamon.

"Digimon! It's short for 'digital monster.'" he explained, "I'm a digimon. But don't expect them to all be nice and friendly and tiny like me! There's some real nasties out there!"

"And you think you can help me?" Tai was very skeptical. Bukamon nodded.

"Yep!"

"...You're not gonna leave me alone if I say no?"

"Nope! You wouldn't last a day here! Someone's gotta make sure you survive!"

"Fine." Tai sighed, "C'mon, let's get back to the ground." Tai continued making his descent as Bukamon followed behind. As soon as his feet touched the ground, a roar could be heard in the distance.

"Kuwagamon!" Bukamon exclaimed fearfully. He grabbed Tai's hand and tugged, or as much as he could with those little flippers of his, "C'mon, we've gotta move! Kuwagamon ain't gonna mess around if it finds us!" Tai followed the digimon's directions. That roar didn't sound good.

"Tai!" Wait, that sounded like Izzy! "Over here!" Tai followed the younger boy's voice to a tree, where he was grabbed and suddenly dragged inside. Tai yelped, only for the smaller boy to shush him. Another roar came from nearby. Kuwagamon was getting closer. Tai wanted to ask what was going on but wisely kept silent. Besides himself and Izzy were Bukamon and a golden mouse resting on Izzy's shoulder. Tai guessed that it was another digimon, but it looked very different from Bukamon. They were stuck there for several minutes as Kuwagamon continued roaring outside. Eventually, when the roars died down, Bukamon took a look outside.

"Coast is clear!" he announced, poking back in, "Hidin' Tree Time is now over!" The four of them left the tree. Kuwagamon's roars were now much more distant than before. They had lost it, hopefully.

"So I guess you got sucked here too?" Tai asked. Izzy nodded.

"Yes, but whatever this place is, it's not Japan anymore."

"I told you, it's the Digital World!" huffed the golden mouse, a male voice higher than Bukamon's squeaking out of it, "It may look like your world but this sure isn't it!"

"Huh?" Tai blinked, "The Digital World?"

"Yes." Izzy nodded, "According to Tyutyumon, we're not even on the same plane of existence as Earth anymore. We're in a new world, maybe a different dimension!" The young boy gazed at his surroundings in interest, "I'd really like to learn more about what this place is if we weren't under attack just now."

"We should keep movin'." Bukamon insisted, "Kuwagamon won't be gone for long." Tai's head was spinning at all the new information, even if he barely understood any of it. From what Izzy was trying to say, it sounded like they were in another world. And if that was true, then how could they get back home?

"And you're sure that you didn't just come out of this device?" Izzy asked Tyutyumon as they began walking. The mouse crossed his arms.

"Definitely not. Digimon don't come from devices, we come from eggs!"

"Interesting." As haughty as Tyutyumon sounded, Izzy seemed to either be exasperated or unfazed by the attitude. Tai commended him for it. They continued walking as fast as they dared, Kuwagamon's roars fading in and out around them as it circled the forest.

"What even is a Kuwagamon?" Tai asked quietly, looking up at the sky.

"It's a big, nasty insect digimon, with fangs and claws sharp enough to split trees in half with a single slice!" Bukamon shivered, "I'd rather not get cornered by it, thank you very much!" Another roar, closer this time, seemed to exemplify his point.

"I just had a thought." Izzy spoke, glancing towards the noise, "We weren't the only ones who picked up those devices. You don't suppose the others are here too?"

"Let's hope not." Tai said, "Bad enough we're stuck here as is." With a grumpy mouse who doesn't know the first thing about manners and a seal who won't leave me alone. Suddenly they heard another sound, different from Kuwagamon's roaring. It was a human shout. Tai immediately broke into a run, Izzy trailing behind. If it was one of the other kids from camp, they could be in trouble! Kuwagamon's last roar had sounded close to the scream, too. Soon enough they broke into a clearing, where Tai could spy Sora, Matt, Joe, Matt's kid brother, and a little yellow ball with big ears running for their lives.

"Oh my oh my oh my!" blabbered the creature, "Kuwagamon's almost on top of us!" Tai and Izzy took that as their cue to join the group and run.

"Hurry up! For havin' two long legs, you guys are awfully slow!" Bukamon had taken the lead and was now trying to guide them to safety again. Instead, they all slammed into the missing member of their group, Mimi, when they happened to accidentally cross paths. The seven of them crashed into a pile.

"Well, that hurt." groaned Sora.

"Ugh, now I've got dirt on my dress!" Mimi exclaimed.

"At least you're okay Mimi." spoke a spiky ball with a leaf for a tail. Probably another digimon, if Tai had to guess.

"Shouldn't we all keep moving so we don't become chow for an oversized stag beetle?!" Tyutyumon snapped. The mouse had a point and they scrambled to their feet. Another roar came from behind them. Kuwagamon wasn't far.

"When will this nightmare end?!" Joe cried.

"Isn't there a way to stop that thing?" Matt asked, "We can't keep running forever!"

"Taking it head on isn't an option, we'd get clobbered!" Sora pointed out.

"Well, we're running out of room, so someone's gotta think of something!" Izzy pointed ahead of them. They were running towards a large cliff and there was no way to avoid it. If they couldn't escape they would have no choice but to try fighting Kuwagamon and that would certainly be a losing battle. Tai's mind flew as he tried to think of what they could do. He ventured close to the edge, but there was only water below.

"There's no way down! We'll have to find some other way!" he said. Before anyone could say something to refute his statement, Kuwagamon flew out of the trees and almost ran them down. They had to duck and then it was flying back around. Tai had almost been forced over the cliff by the air of its passing alone, he had to get away before he was pushed off or worse. He began running for the others but Kuwagamon was catching up quickly.

"Hey! Pick on someone your own size, you big bully! Acid Bubbles!" Bukamon blew out a stream of pink bubbles at Kuwagamon but that barely fazed the giant bug. Kuwagamon missed Tai but hit Bukamon instead, throwing the creature for a literal loop. It then bore down on the other children, only for the other digimon to attack as well.

"Shock Shout!"

"Frothy Spit!"

"Shining Blast!" The ball with ears began to scream its head off as the plant blew more pink bubbles and the mouse shot a golden light out its glove. All these attacks bounced off as well, causing the digimon to be hit instead of the humans. Kuwagamon couldn't turn around fast enough and trashed into the trees. Tai was less bothered by that and more about Bukamon's well-being.

"Bukamon!" He picked up the creature, "Are you crazy?! Why'd you do it?"

"Sorry." Bukamon said, "Just had to make sure you were safe. I'm your guide, it's my job. I said I'd make sure you'd make it out of here alive, right?"

"Bukamon…" Tai cradled the digimon close. The others were also caring for the other fallen digimon. Joe was holding the yellow ball, Izzy the mouse, and Mimi held the spiky plant. None of the tiny creatures looked good. Another hit like that and they'd be done for.

"Oh no…" Kuwagamon gave another screech. It slammed out of the trees, now on its own two feet. Immediately the children backed up against the cliff edge, trying to flee from it.

"I was hoping we'd seen the last of him!" Sora exclaimed.

"Me too! Guess he had other plans, huh?" Tai said.

"I knew I should've brought my bugspray." Matt added. But this was no time for jokes. Kuwagamon was coming ever closer. But then the digimon in their arms began struggling to get free.

"Hey, what are you doing?!" Mimi tried to keep the plant in her arms.

"We can't just let you get hurt!" said the plant in a feminine voice.

"That's one seriously bad digimon, even when it's in a good mood!" groaned the yellow ball in a male voice, deeper than Tyutyumon's or Bukamon's, "It's not gonna just stop if we ask it to!"

"As much as I'd love to keep out of this fight, it's not like we've got a choice." added Tyutyumon.

"I promised to keep you safe, Tai, so let me do my job!" snapped Bukamon. They finally broke themselves free and charged Kuwagamon. A spike of fear raced through Tai, bigger than the fear he was already feeling from the situation.

"Don't, Bukamon!"

"Come back, Tyutyumon!"

"Don't do it, Upamon!"

"Be careful, Budmon!" There was no way they could win this! It was a suicide mission! But as the four digimon charged, the devices on their belts began to glow, as did the digimon. They were enveloped in a yellow light and began to change shape.

"Bukamon digivolve to… Syakomon!"

"Tyutyumon digivolve to… Damemon!"

"Upamon digivolve to… Armadillomon!"

"Budmon digivolve to… Lalamon!"

"What the-?" Instead of a seal, a mouse, a plant, and a ball, in front of them were now a clam, an armadillo, a white poop thing with arms, and a flying flower. They then attacked.

"Black Pearls!"

"Gun Vulcan!"

"Diamond Shell!"

"Seed Blast!" The clam, flower, and poop shot things at Kuwagamon while the armadillo curled up and rolled into the insect's chest. It was enough to knock Kuwagamon down again.

"What happened to them?" T.K. asked.

"They're…bigger!" Nice way to sum it up, Tai. The digimon cheered at their victory before going back to the humans. The flower floated into Mimi's arms, the poop ran into Izzy's, the armadillo leapt on Joe, and the clam hopped over to Tai.

"Wow, Bukamon! That was awesome!" he congratulated.

"Thanks!" The slime inside the clam swayed happily, "But I'm Syakomon now!" Well, he certainly looked nothing like Bukamon anymore.

"Oof!" Joe had been knocked to the ground, "You're a lot heavier, Upamon."

"Call me Armadillomon, Joe!" The digimon now spoke in a twang that Tai couldn't place.

"How did you guys do that?" Izzy asked.

"Digivolution, dame!" The digimon put its hands on its hips, as if it was trying to puff out its chest.

"Digivolution?" Matt asked.

"It lets us change forms and get stronger, as long as we have the energy." the flower explained. Their celebration was interrupted as another roar from Kuwagamon broke through the air. Syakomon and Tai quickly got out of the way, just barely missing getting impaled by Kuwagamon's pincers. But they saw the fault in that plan, as the pincers created so much damage to the cliff that it soon began falling off. They all plunged into the waters below, screaming. Tai knew he could swim, but from his brief glance into the waters, it had seemed like a roaring river. How would they get out of this one?

Notes

1) Sorry if the fighting isn't that too good or that the chapter feels condensed. I'm not too good at fighting scenes and I was trying to write a good chapter as best I could.

2) Sorry if the characters feel too OOC. I was watching the first episode as I was writing, trying to get the scenes mostly right, so characterization might've gone out the window for their chapter because of that. If there is anything that might help characterize them better, please let me know! More information helps!

3) At the moment, only Tai, Mimi, Joe, and Izzy have their partners. But don't worry, Sora, Matt, and T.K.'s partners will appear later on! I thought this would be a good way to do it, since their partners aren't exactly normal digimon.

4) Small thing, but I had Tai introduce himself by his last name first, as that's how it's done in Japan. I don't want to take everything away from the characters, you know.

5) I know Tyutyumon doesn't digivolve into Damemon but because Damemon doesn't have an In-Training form and Tyutyumon has a connection, I decided to make Tyutyumon Damemon's In-Training form for this story. He will also have additional attacks to the single one included on the wiki (where I am getting most of my information besides the anime).
