"We were supposed to be in the Maldives two hours ago," Hermione complained with a sigh. Instead, she was pacing in the lobby of their hotel, a hotel they had to book at the last second when their transfer portkey had failed to deliver them to her work conference.
"How was I supposed to know the portkey was going to be faulty?" Blaise asked, throwing his hands into the air.
"It would be okay if we were going for personal reasons, Blaise," Hermione said, stopping to stare at her boyfriend, "but this is for my job."
"Kingsley isn't going to fire you over a messed up portkey, Hermione," Blaise said, rolling his eyes. "You worry way too much."
"He might not fire me, but this could cost me a chance at becoming Minister when the time is right," Hermione snapped back. "Don't you want what's best for me?"
Blaise huffed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Hermione, you know I want nothing but the best for you, but lashing out at me right now is not going to solve anything."
"I'm not lashing out!" Hermione all but shouted, stamping her foot in her dramatics. "You're just always making jokes, and this is not something funny to me."
"What are you talking about?" Blaise said, shaking his head. "I'm not playing around. I got us into this hotel, so we had someplace to wait comfortably until a new portkey could be authorized. You're absolutely ridiculous right now."
"Me!" Hermione shrieked, squaring up in front of Blaise. "How am I ridiculous?!"
The man at the front desk loudly cleared his throat, causing both Hermione and Blaise to jump and look his way. Hermione blushed and realized just how loud they were being. "I am so sorry," she muttered and grabbed for Blaise's hand.
"Yes," Blaise said, pulling a face. "We didn't mean to be so loud." He let himself be tugged from the lobby and into the hallways where the lifts were located.
"That was embarrassing," Hermione muttered when they were alone. "I can't believe I lost it there. That we lost it..."
"Yeah, I don't know how you put up with me, to be honest," Blaise said, rubbing a hand over his head. "I'm a mess."
"You sure are lucky that I love you," Hermione said, kissing Blaise's cheek and then wiping off the lipstick that was left behind.
"I am one lucky wizard," he replied, holding her in his arms. "I'm sorry for everything."
"Me too," Hermione replied. "I'm too stressed about this conference, and let it get to me."
"We'll figure this out, I promise," Blaise said softly and kissed Hermione properly. Then, when he pulled away, he added, "Do you want to go and grab some dinner while we wait for news from the Ministry?"
"Dinner sounds great," Hermione replied and gave her boyfriend a quick hug. "The conference can wait."
"I love you," Blaise said, kissing the top of Hermione's head as they walked back through to the restaurant area.
"I love you too," Hermione replied, and it was true.
