Chapter 18: Not Fighting Alone

(In Saena's Apartment)

Todoh: So how did it go, Wataru?

Wataru-san (on a video call): It went well, I was able to prove my client's innocence effortlessly, and it's no surprise that jerk didn't even show up, he just makes up stories and runs off to ruin another person's life … he has no respect for the job!

Saena: However, he won't face any implication on his mishandling of your client's case!

Saena felt that Kyoko was somehow different … she was more confident, her smile had power behind it and it seemed like she was ready to fight

Kyoko nods her head and says: I can't predict what will happen, but I know what my first move will be!

Saena: Do what you think is right, as long as you don't break any rules!

The three of them sit together for a short conversation, before Todoh-san leaves … they head to bed shortly after to get ready for a new day

Saena wakes up early and starts preparing breakfast … she also makes a Bento box for Kyoko, hoping that will make her happy, since she didn't get to eat it the first time around.

Kyoko wakes up shortly after and asks if Todoh-san will join them

Saena: You want him to join us?

Kyoko: I don't mind, he's a nice person and he's helping us a lot, so … inviting him for breakfast is the least we can do, right?

Saena nodded in agreement, then texted him to let him know that he is welcome to join them, which he again, happily agreed to join.

He swiftly comes and they all sit down to have breakfast

Todoh: Thank you for inviting me, you really don't have to!

Kyoko: It's the least we can do!

Saena nodded in agreement

Todoh: Thank you, … I'm glad I can have a proper breakfast with you two!

Worried, Kyoko asks: so, you don't usually eat breakfast?

Saena looks at Kyoko and asks: Does that bother you that much?

Kyoko: Yes … Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, if you don't start with a good meal then you won't function properly! … Tsuraga-san and Yashiro-san often do that too, unbelievable!

For some reason, Saena found that funny, so she chuckled, but, ... She soon caught herself, so she stopped and looked away embarrassed

Todoh found it amusing that the women who was always so serious finally laughed, she never allowed herself to have fun and enjoy herself … so he was glad to see her relaxed and comfortable … he smiled and chuckled as well

Confused, Kyoko wasn't sure why both Todoh-san and her mother laughed after hearing what she said, so she asked: did I say something funny?

Todoh: Am I no different than your co-worker and manager?

Kyoko grumbled: Only when it comes to your food choices … I wouldn't mind if you were to join us every morning as long as you have a good healthy breakfast!

Excited, Todoh asks: Can I really?

Saena: I don't see why not … as long as it's convenient you for!

Todoh: That's very considerate of you two … thanks for the offer, … I gladly accept!

They finished breakfast and they all helped clean up, then Kyoko headed to her room, she took her clothes and went to the bathroom to change

Saena noticed that Kyoko's mannerisms changed a little, sometime she seemed worried about something, and other times she seemed carefree … she wondered if Kyoko also felt something like she did … but she wasn't sure if it's just her imagining things

A few moments later, Kyoko returned to the bedroom get her school stuff, then she came out and said: I'm ready!

Saena and Todoh looked at Kyoko who looked a lot different than her usual self, she even changed her hair style … she however didn't look like the Natsu from Box "R" … she just looked like a more mature version of herself

Kyoko felt a little self-conscious and asked: Do I look bad?

Saena: No … you just look … different … you said you were going to use Natsu, … but your style looks different!

Kyoko: I wasn't sure if it was ok to use Natsu's style … since I don't want people to think I'm cosplaying as my character … I will just use some of her traits … along with a small makeover!

Saena: ….

Kyoko continued, justifying her reasoning: Perhaps some people don't take me seriously because I look plain … I thought maybe a change of style will boost up my confidence and help me blend in more!

Todoh: I don't think your plain! … and I really don't think you have to change yourself to blend in …just be yourself!

Kyoko nodded and said: I understand … I think this change is a positive one … or at least, I will make it a positive change … I know I can!

Saena: Do whatever makes you happy … and be careful!

Kyoko: I will!

Saena: Let's get going then

(In Todoh's Car)

Todoh drove to Kyoko's school, and when he got closer, he asked: you want me to stop where I stopped last time?

Kyoko: I hope it's not a hassle for you to stop in front of the school

Todoh: not at all, … (he drives in front of the school) and says: Good luck, Kyoko-chan!

Kyoko gets out … faces the car and bows … then she confidently walks towards the main gate, however she stops suddenly when she hears someone talking to her

Mimori: I almost didn't recognize you …. What happened to you, did you change your appearance because your embarrassed?

Kyoko looked at her and raised a brow at her statement

Mimori: I'm actually shocked you showed up today, … especially after what happened yesterday!

Kyoko: your speaking as if you were there!

Mimori: I wish I was … I surely missed an amusing show

Kyoko: Surely … but I don't think you would like to be in their position, would you?

Mimori: what do you mean?

Kyoko: you never know … you might end up swallowing back that wish and pretend you never made one … be careful of what you say in public … there are ears everywhere!

Mimori: Not going to happen!

Kyoko: we'll see … (she looks away and starts walking again)

Mimori: Hey! …. I'm not done yet!

Kyoko stopped again and looked at her, asking: Do I need your permission to go to school?

Mimori: Are you really going to show your face in class after that video went live … if I were you I would hide in my room until everyone forgets about it!

Kyoko: Excuse me, … I think you have the wrong idea about me … I'm no coward … I won't allow a silly incident like that prevent me from showing up in public!

Mimori: silly? … you were humiliated last I checked … take it from me … don't be an idiot and go home …. Before you embarrass yourself any further!

Kyoko: Why should I listen to you?! … last I checked, you didn't have my best interest in mind … I can take care of myself … so mind your own business!

Mimori: You're really an idiot on a completely different level … (seeing Kyoko walk away towards the school … she runs after her) and says: You idiot … going to school now is like a public suicide … turn around and leave!

Kyoko stopped and looked at Mimori, then looked away and sighed while shaking her head, then said: I have no time for your nonsense … go mess with someone your own age

Mimori was completely dumbfounded by Kyoko's behavior … she stood there, frozen, … and watched Kyoko walk all the way and disappear into the building, before she moved again

Todoh: looks like there is nothing to be worried about!

Relieved, Saena agrees saying: yeah … let's get going then!

Todoh nodded and drove away happily

(In the classroom)

Since it was still early, most students weren't in school yet, including the 4 girls who bullied Kyoko. However, there were a few people in class including Nakamura.

Additionally, to Nakamura and a few others, there were two students who returned after being away since Kyoko joined their class. The first is Tanabe Akari, who is a new actress from a small agency … she was away in Osaka for a drama shoot which finally finished.

The other student is Katsumata Ryota, another actor who was filming a movie in Kobe for the past month, he had a short break, so he decided to attend school.

Kyoko entered the classroom after taking a deep breath and reassured herself that she was doing fine … she noticed that most people didn't recognize her after she changed her appearance, she really didn't get any terrible comments on the way to her class.

Walking into the class, everyone looked at her with a confused look, with no one recognizing her. She however didn't mind, and walked to her assigned desk and sat down confidently.

Nakamura looked at her and realized that she looked like the girl who bullied earlier in the week, so he turned away and got back to his music sheets trying to come up with a new song.

However, since most people didn't recognize her, one guy, called Shinba Yasuo got up and said: are you new here, cutie?!

Annoyed, Kyoko looked at him and said: No … I joined this class a while ago!

Shinba Yasuo: the only two people joining our class were, the hottie Sasaki Hanako and that loser, Mogami!

Kyoko smiled mockingly and asked: That loser? … do you mean me?!

Shinba Yasuo: No … I was talking about that Mogami Kyoko … she's this class's Joke!

Kyoko: I see … but I don't see you laughing … weren't jokes supposed to be funny?!

Shinba Yasuo confused: what do you mean? … I wouldn't laugh at an attractive girl like you … if that loser shows up, I assure you, you will be laughing with all of us!

Kyoko: Nice to meet you too!

Akari: you're really the actress that played Mio in "Dark Moon", right?

Hanako (singer): did you just call me a child?!

Kyoko: Not really … I said your actions are childish … everyone makes foolish and childish decision, at some point, no matter their real age … I would prefer that you don't take my words out of context!

Frustrated, Hanako (singer) threatens: you will see, once the others come, you will be humiliated all over again!

Unconcerned, Kyoko: I Doubt it!

Hanako (singer) screams in frustration and goes to the back, throws her bag in a tantrum then leaves the class with her arms crossed like a sulking child

10 minutes later, she returned to the classroom with her gang … she smiled cunningly and said: let's see you fight all 4 of us now!

Kyoko simply ignored her as she took out her book, so she can get ready for class

As the girls approached Kyoko's desk, the bell rang announcing that it was time for the first class to start, and not even a minute later, the teacher entered the class and urged the students to take their seats

Hanako (singer) however didn't listen, she stood next to Kyoko's desk and complained: Sensei … this is my seat, she took it from me … and she won't get off!

The teacher checked the class chart then said: This was originally Mogami-sans seat … I don't even know why you think it's yours, just take the seat in the back!

Protesting, Hanako (singer) raises her voice, saying: But she gave it to me the other day!

The Teacher: is that correct, Mogami-san?

Kyoko: I honestly didn't want to make a scene so I allowed her to have it when Sato-sensei asked me … however I was never really ok with her taking my seat!

Teacher: How did she end in your seat to begin with?

Kyoko: She was told that this was seat was free, although it was assigned to me … she sat there and didn't get up when I informed her it was mine … she and a few others were rather hostile towards me, so not to cause any problems, I ignored them and sat in the back

Risa Sakamoto (actress) looked at Kyoko angrily, then said: No one wants you here Anyway!

Kyoko: Is that so? … you claim I'm unwanted, but can you prove it?!

Risa Sakamoto (actress): what … do you really want to see how unlikable you are … I can ask everyone here, and everyone will agree with me!

Confident, Kyoko says: Then go ahead and prove it … however, please do that when we have a break, I wouldn't want to waste the teacher's time with this nonsense!

Narumi (talent) got up too and said: I stand with them in protest!

Teacher: Hey … stop it right now! … I think you've gone too far … set back down and, Sasaki-san you will sit in the back until we rearrange the class seating!

Hanako (singer): That's unfair … why are you making me sit all the way in the back … do I look like a commoner to you … I'm a raising musician … I can't be asked to sit in the back like a loser! … I won't accept such treatment!

Maiko (model): don't listen to her Hanako … she can't boss us around … she's just a lame old teacher!

Yashiro understood where Ren was coming from … if Kyoko sees her bully acting with Ren like that, she would probably be annoyed … and things might turn sour between them, which is the last thing he wanted!

Ren thought for a minute, then he asked: Do you mean the father with 3 kids you saw at that event? … I remember you told me that they may be the reason why Mogami-san's mood suddenly changed

Ren: Are you sure about this?

Ren nodded and looked out of the window … watching to see Kyoko and how her expression is going to be like … he was a little worried about her, but deep down he hoped everything goes well for her at school

Yashiro: It seems like there is a huge uproar online … the 3 girls who spilled drinks are being condemned for what they did, including the poster of the video!

Ren: I'm glad that most people understand that what they did isn't ok … but I'm hopeful that it doesn't end at critical comments online!

Yashiro: What are you saying, you yourself punished one of the girls involved!

Ren sighed and said: I know … but I'm worried that I only added oil to the fire … what if she attacks Mogami-san for that … I was so angry that I didn't think about what could happen!

Yashiro: I get your point … but at the same time, she got what she deserved!

Kyoko: They wanted to hear my side of the story … before they proceeded with suspending the girls for 2 weeks … and that's not it … they even talked to their agencies … and apparently … Sakai-san was fired from all her jobs today, Okada-san's agency dismissed her, Sasaki-san debut concert has been canceled, Sakamoto-san was told that all her projects are on hold … isn't that crazy!

Yashiro: I think that is great … they deserve to be punished for their rude and terrible actions!

Self-conscious, Kyoko asked: really? … I tried to mix it up a bit … I didn't want to look like Natsu … but at the same time, the plain normal me isn't too convincing … I guess it all worked out because of this change!

Ren: I would disagree … you might have changed your looks, but your still you, who stood up for yourself and didn't allow them to go any further … your confidence in yourself is what helped! … so, you should call yourself plain at all!

Kyoko smiles and said: Thank you … I guess your right … but … people did notice me more after I changed my appearance!

Worried, Yashiro asked: People … do you mean guys?!

Ren was trying to suppress his dark side, but he still managed to ask: what did he do?!

Sorry for the long break … I felt a little blocked at some point while writing this chapter, so it took me a while … I made the decision to write a chapter and release it as soon as it's done and edited. I will try to be more productive and give you another chapter this month, but no promises.
