Chapter 19: Gone for years, so why now?

(In Yashiro's Car)

Kyoko smiles and said: Thank you … I guess your right … but … people did notice me more after I changed my appearance!

Worried, Yashiro asked: People … do you mean guys?!

Kyoko: yeah … there is this guy called … hmm … what was his name again … was it Shinba?

Ren was trying to suppress his dark side, but he still managed to ask: what did he do?!

Kyoko sensing Ren's change … Kyoko got a little worried … so she said: not much!

Noticing that Kyoko might not be honest if he scares he, Ren calmed down and asked: Did he bother you in any way?

Wanting to be honest with Ren, Kyoko answered: well … he did bother me to some extent but I was able to hold my ground … and my friends told him off, so he eventually stopped!

Knowing how Ren feels, Yashiro asked: Are you going to keep going to school with this style then?

Kyoko: I'm not sure if I should … the purpose behind the change has been achieved, so I don't see the point in keeping the change … but …

Ren: But?

Kyoko: what if my friends don't recognize me after I go to school looking like my usual self?

Ren: I don't think you have to worry about that!

Yashiro: yeah … they will surely recognize you, because you don't look too different from the Kyoko we know and love!

Ren nodded and smiled at Kyoko as she closed the door and waved goodbye as she enters the building

Yashiro glasses shine … he just heard Ren call Kyoko by first name basis, and she didn't react in a shocked or surprised way … she didn't even seem to mind it, … so he thought (I can't believe what just happened, the evidence is just pilling up in our favor)

Ren realized that he just slipped and called her by her first name … he however also noticed that Yashiro drove away without commenting … so he thought (why isn't he commenting?! … he usually teases me about everything … is he changing his attitude towards us? … or is he collecting evidence so he can apprehend me without giving me a chance to deny it?)

Kanae and Chiori were sitting down while eating some snacks and drinking some tea, while waiting for their upcoming meeting

Kanae looked at her phone and notices that its almost 5 pm … so she said: we're too early!

Chiori: well, were both free, so we can hang around until then!

Kanae: yeah …

Chiori: I wonder if Kyoko's coming … or is she just going to come when the meeting starts?

Kanae sighs in worry and says: I don't know … I hope she comes here before the meeting, I am worried about her!

Chiori: right … what happened yesterday sucked … I feel so guilty!

Kanae: I see … well … not that it matters … I'm just glad you have friends and that you're doing well after going to school … I hope those girls get the punishment they deserve!

The trio spent the rest of their time talking until it was time for the meeting … they all attended the meeting on time and found it very informative and exciting.

They left the meeting once it was over, and Kyoko was summoned by Lory to talk about the incident

Kanae, and Chiori waited outside for Kyoko since the president was talking to her

Kanae: To think that man started all this for her!

Chiori: it's a very detailed campaign, I'm actually surprised by how organized it is!

Hokuto (5): I'm playing with Grandma's iPad! … she let me have it!

Hayato (10): Not fair … I wanted it first! … Give it to me!

Hokuto (5): She gave it to me!

Saena: She's a lawyer, … she will be joining us for today's meeting … I hope you don't mind!

Kyoko: that's alright … but will you tell me what this is about?

Saena: you will learn about it soon enough … I will be back shortly!

Saena leaves whole looking at her phone, she sends a text letting Todoh-san that's she's on her way

Sho, Shoko sat in the meeting room waiting the sponsor to Arrive

A staff member knocks on the door, and lets Nanami and Kioshi enter the meeting room, then they bow as the close the door and leave

All parties stand up and bow to each other in respect … then they all took their seats

Shoko: So, your Miyasaki Nanami-san … and this is?

Nanami: This is my son, Kioshi!

Kioshi: Nice to meet you both!

Sho nodded without saying anything

Shoko: This is Fuwa Sho, the musician you wanted to meet for a sponsorship

Nanami: I'm a big fan of your music … I think that the American people will love your music just as much!

Sho: Thanks … I'm looking forward to this opportunity

Nanami explains the sponsorship and the event they want to hold in location in New York, and shows them pictures

Worried that Sho might come across as rude, Shoko says: Sho …calm down!

Nanami: I see your calling her Kyoko instead of Mogami-san … that just shows that your close enough to call her by her first name!

Sho: Your mistaken … were just grew up together, … it's weird to switch from using first name to last name so suddenly!

Kioshi: What can I tell you, that will make what I say believable!

Unsure how to answer that question, Sho hesitates saying: I don't know … you're the one who needs to convince me your telling the truth!

Kioshi: Ok, since it seems very limited people know who she is, I can tell you, her mother's name is Mogami Saena, a lawyer that works at Viride General law office … she was born and raised in Kyoto … and that's where we met!

Sho looked at Kioshi, as his thoughts continued (If he didn't know about her … that means what? … what happened? … was it a bad break up … did she hate him because he broke her heart and blamed it all on Kyoko? … No … she wouldn't want to meet him or tell him about her … would she? … Wait!

Shoko noticed the Sho was lost in thought, so she called him: Sho?

Slightly shocked, Sho thought (could it be … the phrase "I don't have any children" was Aimed at him instead … No … they only met her this week, … she said that a while ago and that broke Kyoko completely … damn it … can I ask anything? … will they answer me … will they be honest if they do?!)

Shoko: Sho?!

Sho looked at Shoko then took a deep breath, while thinking (what's my next move?! … I need to test the waters)

Nanami: Are you remembering how terrible that women was?!

Sho looked at Nanami and thought (She hates Saena-san? … maybe she's wants info to hurt her … but …. But … I always wanted Saena-san to finally care about Kyoko and treat her better, and now that is happening … although I dislike her … I can't take that away from Kyoko, right?)

Saena finds Kyoko lost in thought again and says: Kyoko?

Kyoko looks at her, then looks back down … then she raises her head and looks at Akemi and firmly says: I'm going decline … I'm not interested in meeting you client … that person!

Akemi Nakano: Can you please give me an explanation … a reason why you declined?

Displeased, Kyoko sharply asks: are you asking because your curious, … or because they requested an explanation?

Akemi Nakano was low-key afraid at this point, but she answered: His daughter … and as your father, he wanted to meet you and establish a good father-daughter relationship

Kyoko: Please refrain from calling him that … he's just a stranger at this point … and I would like to keep it that way!

Akemi Nakano: I understand your upset about this matter, … but, you're his child and he wants to recognize you as such

Angry, Kyoko asked sarcastically: Bystander? … Responsibility? … where was he in the past 18 years … if wanted to take responsibility for his actions, he would have spent some of his years in Jail … instead of fooling around in another country … he chooses to leave … no one forced him!

Todoh smiled slyly and thought (This girl is incredible … she would rather have him spend time behind bars … and she considers him getting married as fooling around in another country … if only I could freely laugh)

Shocked, Akemi Nakano stopped typing and looked at Kyoko … then she looked down and typed everything down without commenting … she thought to herself (She surly hates him … at this point … I don't think I should ask my next question … but I can't just do as I please … Just when I met someone great … I'm now pushing them to hate me … why Akemi? … Why did you choose this section … I should've just spent my days putting criminals behind bars … family issues are too complex … I hate getting involved!)

Kyoko: Is my answer sufficient enough … or should I go on?

Akemi Nakano: I'm sorry … I really am … I don't want to force you to do anything … I understand your position on this matter, but I'm required to do the Job I came here to do … may I ask a few additional questions?

Kyoko: Can I decline to answer, if I didn't like the question?

Saena: Sure … you can say whatever you want … just be mindful, if possible …

Todoh took a deep breath and thought (those feelings … she knows how much it hurts to be deceived by someone she once loved … just like with her childhood friend … though the situation is drastically different in some aspects … and stab in the back will always hurt!)

Akemi Nakano: alright … since you declined to meet Miyasaki Kioshi-san … would you like meet his mother, Nanami-san instead? … since, she's also family?

Kyoko: His mother? …

She thought while looking down (His mother? … she wasn't the one who deceived my mother, but … if he did it for his family … then his mother might have been aware of his actions, … I can't judge her without knowing?)

Looking at her mother, Kyoko said: I'm an only child! … I don't have any siblings!

Akemi Nakano: Yes, your Mogami-san's only child … but … you don't want to even consider the 3 boys as your siblings?

Kyoko: If I recall, you videotaped this meeting, recorded the voice … and typed the whole conversation down, right?

Saena: Yes … we weren't sure which type you would be ok with, so we recorded it in all three means and will only use the type you approve off!

Kyoko: But why did you have to record it to begin with? … The whole conversation at that!

Saena: They wanted to have your response, straight from you! … which is why they requesting a recorded response!

Kyoko: But, why the whole conversation?

Saena: ….

Todoh: well, you can say that they wanted to know how the whole conversation went ….

Kyoko interrupted: I'm sorry for interrupting, but I can't assume you will tell me, can I … they probably doubted you, right … do they think I'm stupid?! … I'm only asking because I have an idea, and now I'm sure of it … they Don't trust you! … they think you will try to manipulate me, right?

Saena admitted: to be fair, I brought it upon myself when I made that false statement on T.V

Kyoko: One false statement doesn't define you … didn't you tell him you said that to keep him away … you … you …. You've always been completely honest with me … your track record of honesty shouldn't be overlooked because of one statement!

Todoh: That's true!

Akemi Nakano nodded without saying anything

Akemi Nakano: I'd hate to ask this … but … don't you think the way you lived your life would have an influence on you and how you view things?

Kyoko: Sure … Peoples words and actions do have some type of influence … I can't deny that … but my mom never tried to influence a specific idea on me

Akemi Nakano: I was asked to bring this up, if this topic was discussed … but … don't you think that the fact your father was never mentioned influenced you in any way?

Kyoko: In what way do you mean, exactly? … I never ever saw him in my whole life, … my mom didn't even have a picture of him, because he didn't leave any traces of himself behind … what was I supposed to think?!

Todoh: besides … I don't think someone like Mogami-san has much positives things to say about some like him, so wouldn't you think it's better not to say anything?

Akemi Nakano: Yeah … that's true!

Kyoko: The facts are clear … he decided to commit a crime for his own side, … he approached my mother, deceived her … and left without a trace … no one forced him to do anything and he choose to not come back until now … his choices have consequences … and he has to live with that!

Akemi Nakano: alright … you made your stance on this matter clear, thank you …

Kyoko: as for my decision on this recording issue … Although I think it's pointless and absurd for them to go this far … I will allow them to have the audio recording … they can have the written down script too, … but I won't allow the videotape to be handed over … because, I don't want to give them video footage of myself!

Saena: that's fair … now that were done, we can end the recording!

Todoh gets up and says: Yes … I will end the recording here, since they won't be needing it anyway

Akemi Nakano reopen the recording app and stopped it … she also finished writing down everything, so she saves it and then closes her laptop.

Kyoko was relieved that they finished … because she felt overwhelmed emotionally and wanted to get away … she thought (what am I supposed to do now … I'm not sure I can control my emotions by tomorrow … Since I have the cooking lesson with Tsuraga-san tomorrow evening … he knows how to read me well … I'm not sure I can hide it … wait … Tsuraga-san? … wait … we talked about Tuesday … didn't we … but what was it?!

Saena stood up and preceded to pick up the tea cups and the empty plates

Saena didn't want to lie, but she didn't want to reveal the whole truth, so she said: It was after the meeting, not in the meeting itself … I was dizzy and I lost balance … I was just unsure how to explain it!

Kyoko: Where was Todoh-san … wasn't he with you after the meeting?

Todoh: I was called because the police came to update me on your case … since I'm your official lawyer!

Kyoko thought (Todoh-san was summoned by the police … they could have misunderstood the whole thing and thought that mom wanted to have that man arrested?)

Kyoko then asked: Was it his wife … no … it could be his mother … she could have attacked you, and caused you to lose balance … because she was afraid her son would be arrested?

Now, Saena was astonished Kyoko was able to piece together the truth from very little info … she couldn't wrap her head around the fact Kyoko was able to deduce the whole incident with so little information from them

Not wanting to confirm it, Todoh questioned: But … why would you assume she got injured on Tuesday?

Kyoko: Well, first, she come home later than usual and left very early the next morning … it means she really wanted to hide it because it was obvious … perhaps it was swollen! … I remember when … (she paused)

Todoh: when?

Not wanting to say Sho's name in front of Nakano-san, Kyoko said: when my childhood friend hit his head a while back, he got stitches and the injured area was swollen for two days … When I broke my leg … my foot was swollen right away … so from that, I can guess what could have happened and narrow down the possibilities

Saena thought (If I had just said I fell and got injured then, she wouldn't have figured all this out, would she … no … she connected it to them because the meeting was on Tuesday, even if she thought I fell then, she can tie it to them in a different way)

Kyoko looked down because her mother didn't respond and thought (This must have been difficult for her … I still can't believe that he dared to meet her again, after all he did … moreover he's married and started his own family … he didn't live a miserable terrible life!)

Saena looked at Kyoko and said: For your response … if you ever have a change of heart, just let me know!

Todoh: She even accompanied us to the hospital!

Confused, Kyoko: why would she do that? … I mean … she's HIS wife … why would she defend you or accompany you?
