7 AM
Kurt woke up before their alarm and pushed himself into a sitting position, yawning.
Blaine, who had been cuddled up at Kurt's side, whined a little bit and rolled onto his stomach before letting out a tiny sigh.
Kurt bent down, rubbing his back a bit and then kissing his cheek.
"Mmmh?" Blaine whined again.
"We're getting married today." Kurt whispered.
"Mmmh first I need coffee."
Kurt laughed as quietly as he could since Burt, Carole, and Melody were staying with them in the two extra rooms.
"Let's go sit out back." Kurt's voice was gentle.
Blaine went to push himself up but kind of flopped back down, forgetting about his cast. He then groaned and blinked his eyes open.
"Good morning." Kurt gave him a bright smile.
"You're so beautiful." Blaine yawned before covering his face with his good arm. "Mmh I think I lied yesterday. I broke my leg."
Kurt laughed quietly again. "You were medicated. It's okay. I told them when you weren't paying attention."
Blaine reached up with his good hand, touching Kurt's cheek. "You're so soft too… and your hair is always so cute when you wake up but mine looks like a bird's nest."
"Come on!" Kurt hopped up, grabbing something out of his nightstand. "I'll start coffee. Meet me on the back porch."
Blaine pushed himself into a sitting position, nodding.
Kurt padded into the kitchen and set the small box and envelope on the counter. He then started the coffee on auto pilot—even though they usually didn't finish their morning coffee because they usually ran out the door and stopped for a warmer one closer to work, they always drank a full cup (or two) on the weekends, though. One of three places—back porch, couch, or in bed.
Blaine came in, still in his pajamas and holding something in his arms as well. "I guess we had the same idea?"
"I figured it would be more personal if we didn't do it in front of the camera." Kurt smiled, going to kiss him. "Go sit on the porch and I'll bring the coffee out?"
"Okay." Blaine nodded, grabbing Kurt's stuff that was on the counter on his way out.
Kurt bit his lip excitedly—Blaine hadn't closed the door all the way and he'd heard Blaine let out a content little sigh.
He had been worried they would both wake up anxious or jittery but so far… it was just them. Granted, they hadn't had coffee yet and nerves were starting to kick in a bit. It was more for the actual day, though, and not the act of getting married.
Truth be told, he was also pretty nervous that Blaine might… well, freak out. He'd been doing very well since his dad was arrested, though, and Kurt was very thankful for that. The biggest wedding present of all, really.
He waited for the coffee maker light to turn on and then poured their two glasses, adding in their usual 'poisons' as Blaine called them. Apparently it was easier to not feel bad about what you added when other people did it. Not that Blaine needed to worry about it, though, since he had always been thin even with the extra weight he'd gained since undergrad (which hadn't been much even though Blaine disagreed).
Blaine smiled when Kurt came out, his hazel eyes brighter than usual. "Good morning."
"Good morning." Kurt smiled back and sat down with him, holding out his cup of coffee. "Did you sleep well?"
"Mostly. I woke up a couple of times but not for very long. Did you?" Blaine asked before taking a sip of his coffee.
"The same." Kurt bit his lip to keep from grinning.
"Your phone turned off?"
"Yes and my voicemail messages on both to leave me alone." Kurt nodded. "You're the one that gets more calls, though."
"Mine's off too but I didn't do a message. I think the work calls will roll into the reception desk and then they'll get it to someone if it can't wait until I'm back… or something. Brian told me but I wasn't really listening." Blaine yawned a bit, letting his head rest on Kurt's shoulder.
Which was one of Kurt's favorite things about Blaine's height—it was perfect for how they sat when they had time to actually sit together. It was almost like puzzle pieces fitting together.
"I don't get that many calls on my actual phone so I haven't turned it off. It's in the room." Blaine shrugged. "When are your aunts coming with the breakfast?"
"Probably an hour or two. I think Taylor's at the bookstore this morning." Kurt kissed the top of his head.
"So, Paige is bringing it?"
"Yeah but Taylor warned me that she usually doesn't get up until at least nine on the weekends." Kurt nodded. "We can run and get something if you're hungry?"
"And have your parents think we ran off to elope?" Blaine joked. "Burt would bring out the flame thrower."
"I still can't believe you promised to let Miles draw all over your cast after we eat dinner today." Kurt laughed, ignoring the flame thrower comment—because, really, his father couldn't have had one. Right?
"He's just so cute. I can't say no." Blaine shrugged. "Plus, Melody was giving me the you look."
"The 'me' look?"
"Yes. The look you get when I'm trying to not do something you think I should do. Does that make it a Burt look?" Blaine tilted his head.
"I've never seen the face so I couldn't tell you?" Kurt shrugged this time and set his mug on their porch table.
"Gift time!" Blaine leaned over, grabbing the two gifts he wanted to give to Kurt. "You first!"
Kurt tucked his feet underneath him after grabbing the two gifts he wanted to give Blaine and setting them beside him.
"Small one or big one? By the way, looks can be deceiving." Blaine said cheerfully.
"Big one. Size wise, I guess." Kurt smiled.
Maybe he should haven't felt more anxious about the events of today but doing something so normal—just sitting on the back porch, talking, and drinking coffee… it just felt, well, natural. Which was how most things (if not all things) felt with Blaine.
Then again, they had been together for a very long time if you didn't count the nine month break.
Blaine held out a wrapped thing that looked like… a book maybe?
"You wrapped this before you broke your arm."
"False. Brady wrapped it yesterday in Bob's car when you were distracted at the dinner." Blaine smiled. "Are you going to open it?"
Kurt, not needing to be asked again, eagerly opened a scrap book.
"So." Blaine said when Kurt opened it. "It's kind of two sided and this is a little embarrassing, maybe, but I used to write you letters."
"You used to what? I never got any letters."
"I know because I was always too shy to give them to you." Blaine admitted. "I just kept them in an airtight bag under my soccer uniforms in storage and any time I'd write one, I'd go and add it to the bag. If you turn it upside down and to the other side, they're in the album too. I laminated them because I figured if you kept them and they started to fade, you'd be upset."
"Blaine." Kurt stared at him, blue eyes wide.
"There's not tons and I usually wrote them after big events. The, uh… the first one I wrote the day before we made out that first time. There's probably not time for you to read them all now but I figured you're stuck with me as of 4:00, so you can deal with how crazy I may sound."
"I just wrote you one for today."
"I wrote you one for today too. It's at the back." Blaine bit his lip.
Kurt turned to the front, looking through some of the pictures. Warbler practices, some after a few soccer matches before and after they'd started dating, birthday dinners, Thanksgivings, Christmases, moving in together bothtimes. Family gatherings, just everything.
"Yeah, it took some time tracking all of those down." Blaine cringed. "But none of them are on social media, so yay!"
Kurt had to laugh when Blaine raised his hands in excitement.
"It's so weird, isn't it?"
"Yeah." Kurt sighed a bit and returned his attention to the scrap book. "Some of these I didn't even know were being taken."
"Yeah, I know." Blaine nodded. "I guess Melody's really good with stealing cameras and taking them. She should join the paparazzi."
"Seriously?! She took these?"
"Not all of them obviously. The one from Finn's wedding, Taylor and Paige's, and a lot of the Christmas ones, though. Pretty much all of the family photos Carole sent me and I had them printed. I did matte because they're supposed to last longer or something. I don't know. The lady said to do matte and it was more expensive, so… We can get regular instead if you want, though."
"This is perfect. Thank you." Kurt laughed at him again and leaned against him.
"Oh! And this!" Blaine said, holding out the smaller box.
Kurt went to unwrap it.
"I figured it was time for an upgrade. I know you wear the one I got you years ago already almost every day but you are kind of moving up in the world, so I thought you could use one to match your, uhm, status in the world."
Kurt's eyes widened when he saw a watch. "This had to cost more than our wedding bands, Blaine."
"It wasn't that bad." Blaine shrugged.
"It's a Tudor watch." Kurt deadpanned.
"I just… walked in and bought it?"
Kurt grabbed his small box for Blaine and handed it to him…half glaring at him.
Blaine opened his and covered his face with his arm, laughing.
Because it was another watch, obviously from the same store that Kurt's watch had been purchased from.
"When did you buy this?"
"April." Blaine said, arm still covering his face.
"Because I went back to get this for you two days after I first saw it and it was gone!" Kurt held up the box Blaine had just given him.
"It wasn't gone. They put it on hold for me. I wanted to p-pay cash so you wouldn't see it on the joint account and it was the only card I h-had." Blaine laughed. "I knew it was you. As soon as he told me someone else tried to come back for it, I just had a feeling."
"Where did you keep it?"
"Bob's. I knew if I kept it in the house, you'd find it because you're snoopy." Blaine lowered his hand and grinned. "I like this one better anyway... although it was more expensive than the one I got you, so I guess I have to make up for that at the honeymoon."
Kurt rolled his eyes. "You do not."
"I know." Blaine gave a half shrug and smiled.
"I do have something else for you too but I wanted to save it for after the ceremony when we're eating alone." Kurt said slowly.
Blaine quirked up an eyebrow suggestively.
"No." Kurt rolled his eyes, smiling. "A real thing. I have a physical copy but I want to show you on my phone at the wedding."
"You're going to make me wait all day?" Blaine whined.
"Just until 4:45ish." Kurt laughed, glanced at his watch, and then looked up. "You can't drive."
"What?" Blaine asked.
"You legally can't drive until you aren't wearing a cast or splint anymore."
"Thank God." Blaine let out a huge sigh of relief.
"Thank God?" Kurt looked at him like he was crazy.
"That means I can't get into a wreck before the ceremony!" Blaine exclaimed. "Okay. There is some good coming out of all of this."
Kurt rolled his eyes but smiled.
"How are we doing the pictures?" Blaine asked.
"Well, the timeline has us doing our first look and wedding pictures of just us and then the family pictures." Kurt said. "All before the wedding… Right after, the wedding party pictures and then we'll get some more after but not as many. She said the after pictures wouldn't take so long. We just need to let the people who need to be in them know so they can hold back when everyone else goes inside."
"Well at least we'll cut some waiting time out with me not having family coming." Blaine's voice was overly cheerful.
"Not true." Kurt beamed.
"I mean, it won't take that long to take a picture with Wes' parents and David's parents. It's not like regular photos with us and Carole and Burt, us with them plus Melody and Finn, then plus the kids and Rachel…" Blaine said. "So it probably won't take as long."
"Do you want a surprise now or later?" Kurt asked.
"Another one?" Blaine looked confused.
"You're having family pictures, Blaine. Alex, Mia, and the kids will be in some and… Bob's family is going to be in all the family pictures. Same breakdown as my family. There'll be pictures with just Alex and his family, just Bob and his, and then with them all together with mine. Every picture or breakdown for my family, Bob's will have the same breakdown. So you are having family pictures."
"I can't ask him to do that. Isn't that weird?" Blaine's eyes widened.
"I already did, babe. That's why we met for lunch when we thought you weren't going to walk in. You should have seen his reaction too. At first it was like he was too happy to react and then he thanked me. It was really sweet… but he is your family and our family and… I knew you'd want it that way but would never ask." Kurt smiled. "I want you to have it all too, you know? Your parents may be scum but you've got your own family with them—and with Wes' and David's families too, I know. But it's different with Bob and his family. I know it is."
Blaine opened his mouth but didn't say anything.
Kurt just knew him so well.
Kurt reached over, squeezing his thigh. He then added adorably, "It was the least we could do since you basically made him adopt our sons as grandchildren."
Blaine smiled and nodded.
"BAYBAYBAY!"
Kurt and Blaine both looked confused until a dark boy toddled into their back yard and towards the back porch.
"KURKUR!"
Kurt hopped up, running to catch him before he fell face first onto the walkway.
"Oliver, I'm going to kill you!" Marcy huffed, running up. "Oh, you're out here! Let's forget you heard me say I was going to kill him, okay?"
Oliver scowled when Marcy scooped him up—a face they'd seen David make many a time.
"Yes. We know you're Daddy. You don't have to remind us." Marcy sighed as David came in, an asleep not-quite one year old in his arms.
"Why are we coming to the back—oh, hey!"
"Ollie knows where the party is at." Blaine informed him before yawning.
"I told you we were too early. They're still in their pajamas." Marcy said.
"Blaine said eight. It is eight." David shrugged and grinned. "Ready for dooms day, boys?"
Kurt rolled his eyes and Blaine laughed, going to hug him.
12:00 PM
"I still can't believe this day is finally here. I've been waiting for this since I met Blaine. Well, okay… maybe the third time. The first time I met him he woke up hung over in your bed and the second time he asked me to give you a sex talk." Burt said later that day in a very large room at the venue.
True to Kurt's words, he and Blaine would be spending most of the morning together and, at 1:00 they would separate to get ready. Then their first look and portraits at 2:00, family photos at 2:45, and they would have 15 minutes to spend together before it happened.
The ceremony.
Bob, who was sitting with Blaine on one of the couches in the room, had a funny smile on his face but did not ask for details. Blaine had a feeling he would ask Burt about that one later since the two, with David and Wes' father, had spent the whole rehearsal dinner laughing… probably at Blaine, Wes, and David's expense since Kurt didn't do many embarrassing things.
"Oh, shut up." Blaine rolled his eyes.
"I'm so excited!" Melody, who was sitting in the corner of the room with Bella, suddenly squealed.
Bella squealed too, although she did look confused.
"My brothers are legally gonna be brothers!" Melody continued.
"Honey, we've been through this. When you say that it sounds, well—" Carole began.
"Hilarious." Burt snorted.
"Honey, they're going to be husbands. They just so happen to be your, uhm… brothers." Carole glared at Burt. "I've gotten two calls from her teachers already. They're all very confused."
Bob, again, looked like he was trying not to laugh.
"Blaine… Is Wes in the Men in Black?" Melody tilted her head. "You know, the real ones? Not Thor?"
"Uh, I was kinda wondering that too." Finn, who had picked Bella up, agreed. "Because he got a call from work and left really quickly last night and was gone for, like, two hours."
"No. He's in the FBI." Blaine repeated for the fourth time that day to Melody. He then added, to Finn, "He's a biochemist and deals with Anthrax type stuff and disease bombs… He doesn't tell me… but Adrian has asked AJ questions when she's been drunk before. We were, like, twenty seconds away from a huge bomb with something like Polio in it three months ago. Good times."
Kurt, Finn, Carole, Burt, and Bob all looked at Blaine with big eyes.
"Uh… just kidding?" Blaine asked as the door opened.
"Wes, did you save the world?!" Melody rushed over as soon as he was in the room.
"Sweetie, he can't even control a three year old." AJ said sweetly.
"But what about the Polio bomb?" Finn asked.
Wes turned, looking at AJ.
"I can't help that people know all it takes is a few daquiris at a Mexican restaurant and Adrian and I will both fess up to murder. It's how we still tolerate each other." AJ said, not even bothered. "Believe me, if you knew the things we knew…"
"Wait. How much do you tell Adrian?" Kurt asked.
"How much do you tell Alec?" AJ countered.
"Alicia!" Wes snapped.
"No entiendo ingles?" AJ smiled sweetly causing Burt to laugh loudly.
"Bomb, bomb, bomb! BOOM!" Scarlett cheered, running straight to Finn when AJ sat her down.
Had she ever met Finn? Not before last night… but she wasn't very picky about who she became friends with.
"And I know you're all white here except for us and Blaine but let me tell you, people act like people with dark skin are the crazies? Three years and I promise you, every single nut job I've seen arrested has been a white kid under 22 who spent way too much fucking time watching Dexter's Laboratory."
Bob burst out laughing this time.
"She is so cute." Carole smiled at AJ, watching Scarlett and Finn.
"She looks cute but she's actually pure evil." AJ said, a very serious expression on her face. "OhmyGod, Iloveyou!"
Adrian, who had just walked into the room, held is arms up as AJ wrapped him a huge hug.
"I love you too, AJ!" Matt said coming in behind Adrian. "I'm glad we share these bonding moments. Brings us closer together, you know?"
A guy who looked almost exactly like Matt but just a little older came in behind him.
AJ went to hug Matt's brother but stopped halfway in. "Wait. Are you Peter?"
"Pete. You've seen me four times."
"I know but it still really throws me off. Sorry." AJ said as Scarlett made a beeline for Matt, disregarding Finn without so much as a wave.
"She knows me." Matt declared, scooping her up. "All you others are fakes but Scarlett is my true friend."
"Did you guys know there's, like, actual NYPD out there? Adrian, they're probably more hardcore than I am." Pete said, completely ignoring Matt. "So, who's getting married?"
Kurt and Blaine raised their hands.
"Hi, I'm the muscle in the family. Also, congrats."
"I've got three times as much muscle as you could ever hope to have." Matt scoffed.
"Are you a police officer too?" Burt asked.
"Been there, done that. He wants to change diapers now." Pete shrugged. "He's kinda like an inward pirate now… only one kidney so he got the boot giving the rest of the CPD a chance for love… the gay ones at least."
"Five and six year olds don't wear diapers and I'll have you know, they're supposed to be potty trained." Matt scoffed again. "Why couldn't Logan come again?"
"His fear of commitment is so strong he couldn't watch another couple commit." Pete laughed. "Oh God, I'm on a roll today. I need to text him that."
Adrian rolled his eyes as Matt let out a very loud laugh, which prompted Scarlett to giggle. He then glanced over at Melody who was staring at Matt like he was a live action Ken doll.
Honestly, Adrian still stared like that sometimes when he saw Matt without clothes on so he really couldn't blame her.
"Oh! Are you Matt?" Carole gasped. "How are you doing? We were going to meet you at graduation but…"
"I am. Hi!" Matt went to shake her hand. "Are you Kurt's mom?"
"Stepmother." Carole smiled.
"Oh, cool!" Matt nodded. "I don't have a stepmom but my family is so crazy, I don't think one could handle us all."
"Yeah. Mama probably wouldn't like that either." Pete added, waving at Bob.
"Thank you for your service." Burt said very seriously, coming up to Matt and shaking his hand.
"You're welcome." Matt said somewhat sheepishly as Adrian went to sit by Bob. "Now I'm in school to become an elementary school teacher though which probably won't be as exciting, but it'll be fun. Liability and all… but it's okay. My whole family is in law enforcement so I still get all the good stories."
"Thanks for giving us a plus one." Adrian said, going to hug Kurt.
"Don't even thank us." Kurt said, hugging him back. "How are you doing?"
"Mostly about the same." Adrian confessed. "But hopefully it'll be over on Tuesday."
Matt came over to Adrian and Kurt, putting his hand on Adrian's lower back.
Kurt felt a little better when Adrian didn't jump like he had the last time Kurt had witnessed Matt touching his back that way.
Honestly, he and Blaine had been pretty worried about Adrian and were kind of surprised they showed up so early.
Wes, who had left the room and came back in, made a beeline to Pete and then hesitated.
Pete pointed in Matt's direction. "Every time, man."
"You're like twins." Wes said. "Sorry."
"If Matt could grow facial hair maybe." Pete grinned as Matt sent him an annoyed look.
"Have you ever gone up to his older brother thinking it was him?" Finn asked Adrian.
"Uh, once but that was before I knew Pete existed… and I figured it out pretty quickly because he just looked amused and told me it happened all the time without even asking who I was." Adrian, who had started talking to Bob, laughed.
"It still happens to me a lot and Matt hasn't lived at home in, like, three years." Pete sighed. "The funny thing is we look the most alike and act the most alike so our Mom still gets us mixed up if we're both together."
"It's true." Adrian nodded.
"I've seen it too." Bob nodded as Alec came into the room, followed closely by Marcy, Oliver, and Mollie.
"Oh no. Where's David?" Blaine's face fell.
"Don't worry." Marcy said. "He and Alec are both at Mt. Sinai."
Wes' eyes widened.
"David will be here by 1:45 at the latest." Alec said quickly. "If anyone is late it will be Eric. There was a, uhm… incident in Queens and they got called in."
"Eric will send David as soon as he can." Marcy added. "They just got 28 critical people at once. I would have stayed but I'd already done 14 hours and Eric threw a bitch fit that they kept me there in the first place since I'm pregnant, so…"
"Sorry." Alec cringed. "But look at this cute baby! I still think it's so cute. Ollie and Mollie."
"I know but we can't call him Ollie anymore because Mollie gets confused." Marcy sighed a bit. "It's a hard adjustment for everyone."
"If number three is a boy… you should name him Wallie." Blaine joked although he still sounded anxious.
"That's a hard no." Marcy gave him a look.
"Don't worry, Blaine." Wes said. "The pictures aren't until 2:00. The only one that has to get ready at 1:00 is you for the pictures, right?"
"I'll go at 1:00 and you can at 1:30." Kurt said quickly. "That'll buy David more time if he needs it."
"See?" Bob said. "It won't take him long to get dressed. It's you they want pictures of getting ready."
Blaine nodded.
"Plus, we all know it'll take Kurt twenty hours anyway." Burt chuckled. "It's fine, kid. Plus, it's your wedding day and apparently Kurt's a celebrity. If stuff starts a little late, it'll be alright."
"When we got married, the photographer went around for like twenty minutes without us just scoping out places." Matt offered.
"Really?" Blaine asked, feeling a little less anxious.
"Yeah!" Adrian nodded. "She let us know she was there, she scoped stuff out, and then did the getting ready photos after."
"In her defense, somebody was late." Matt said.
"Who?" Burt asked.
"My dad. It's a nightmare getting all the Caldwell's out of the station at one time. Honestly, I think Mark and Gabby had to go back to work once all the big stuff was done." Matt shrugged. "And Dad went back after the whole thing ended."
"That's a good way to get behind. Can't do the getting ready without the dads." Burt nodded.
"Oh, we got ready together." Adrian said, choosing not to point out that he hadn't wanted his dad there when he got ready.
Somehow, though, he didn't see Burt and Bob arguing—and, come on. Adrian (well, everyone), knew that Bob was Blaine's dad here.
"How sweet!" Carole smiled. "I bet that was special."
"Yeah, it was." Matt beamed and then said, "We're so happy for you two. Our wedding is still my favorite day ever."
Kurt smiled.
"Mine too." Alec said. "It was a bit hectic but I don't think anything tops your wedding day."
"Childbirth does." Bob said. "But that's it."
Carole nodded in agreement.
"I'm just here to embarrass Blaine and eat wedding cake." Wes shrugged and then smiled sweetly at Kurt. "Not too much, though, Kurtsie."
"You better not." Kurt sighed as there was a knock on the door.
Burt went to answer it but the door opened on it's own and a very stern lady stepped into the room.
Blaine, who had never seen the person before, looked extremely confused.
"Hey, we need to talk." The blonde lady, who looked like she could work in the police or something herself, said as the door opened wider.
The wedding photographer Megan, who was behind the lady, smiled brightly and waved.
"Seriously, Martie?" Kurt groaned, leaving the room.
Bob made eye contact with Blaine and then followed Kurt into the hallway.
"She didn't sign a waiver." The woman was saying.
"What are you doing here?" Kurt sighed. "You're not even my PR person."
"Yes, but you work for Marc and I am his—"
"And he's not going to be here until the ceremony so you need to leave." Kurt said slowly, ignoring her.
"Everyone needs to sign waivers." The woman said. "The staff, the planner, the guests, even the family."
"Did everyone sign a waiver when Marc had a flashmob outside of Chipotle when he proposed?" Kurt deadpanned, aware Bob was there and just watching.
Kurt really didn't want to show his bitchy side in front of Bob but he also didn't want Marc's PR person to ruin his day, so he was resigning himself to the fact that he was going to have to do it.
He was going to go off if she didn't listen.
"Marc didn't tell me that was happening." Martie snapped.
"Okay, I didn't tell you this was happening. My PR person will be he at 3:30 before the ceremony happens. Jason is invited. I don't even know you, you aren't invited, and you need to go."
"The guests need to sign waivers. The staff does. The photographer does." Martie said and pointed at Bob. "He does too."
"You don't work for me!" Kurt was losing his patience.
"I work for your boss therefore you work for me. It is my responsibility to make sure the brand's name—"
"In what reality does that even make sense?!" Kurt gasped.
"Okay." Bob said slowly, looking at the woman. "The photographer is going to go in there with the family and we three are going to have a talk about law and privacy— both inside and outside of work. And maybe you should call your boss too, Kurt."
Kurt turned and went back into the room saying, "Who has my cell phone? I know I said I didn't want it, but I need it."
Finn tossed it at him, Kurt caught it, ushered Megan through, and let the door slam behind him.
Because not today.
"Were you invited here by Kurt or Blaine?" Kurt heard Bob calmly asking Martie as he dialed Marc's phone number.
"Please tell me Martie isn't there." He heard Marc's voice after one and a half rings.
"She is."
"Goddamnit." Marc hung up.
"I don't care who your boss is or who you work for. You cannot come in here three and a half hours before they get married and start telling him what's going to happen. You don't work for him." Bob was saying, sounding annoyed.
"I work for Marc Jacobs."
"I don't give a flying fuck who you work for." Bob's voice rose. "Or who Kurt works for. Kurt is not at work, not at a work event, and you are not supposed to be here. In ten minutes this place is shut down to the public for anyone not on the list and I guarantee your name isn't on there since he just said he doesn't even know you."
"Oh, he knows who I am." Martie argued.
"Well you're not invited to the fucking wedding."
Blaine came out and put on a sweet smile after hearing Bob's raised voice. "Hi."
"I don't even want to talk to you, making funny faces when you know paps are taking pictures." Martie sighed. "You aren't even cute and you really shouldn't go out in public without styling your hair. What? Are you four?"
Blaine looked at Kurt and then back at the woman, trying to figure out if he should be offended or laugh.
Kurt just looked pissed.
Bitch level pissed and, honestly, Blaine was feeling proud of Kurt for not throwing a fit.
"Yeah…" Blaine said to Martie. "Maybe you should go. The conversation following that facial expression isn't a fun one. Trust me. I know."
"Do you know how hard you're making my job? Seriously? Who walks their partner to work all the time anyway?" Martie scoffed.
Bob went to open his mouth again when a man that was younger than Martie walked up.
"Okay. I'm here. Time for you to leave." The young man said, pointing in the direction he came from. "Kurt is my responsibility and you are not my problem."
"Marc?" Kurt asked.
The guy nodded, looking irritated.
"His guests haven't signed waivers." Martie told him.
"Would it have mattered if they did since you got in?" Blaine asked sweetly but the woman just argued back with the man who must have been Kurt's public relations person… or someone.
The guy looked at Blaine and laughed. He then turned back to the woman. "Marc's pissed so you better apologize to Kurt, Blaine, and then call and apologize to him."
"I'm not apologizing for doing my job." The woman scoffed.
"No. Apologizing for trying to do mine. It's handled. Just apologize and go so I can do mine, alright?"
"I hate you, Jason."
"Take it up with your boss." The guy, Jason, shrugged. "If you'll go, I need to talk to the photographer so she'll know she can do whatever the hell she wants and if you hang around, I saw a lot of police officers over there and they kind of like me, so…."
"I can't talk to the photographer but you can?"
Megan stepped out of the room and then said, "My dad and three brothers are lawyers. I can get one of them down here if you'd like, Mr. Hummel."
"Could you?" Jason asked.
Martie turned and stormed off.
Bob turned, looking at the woman. "… Are you a Taggart?"
"I feel like this is a trick question, so…" She cringed. "Maybe? Who are you?"
"Robert Colloway." Bob said.
"My baby brother is, like, obsessed with you and another lawyer out of your firm. All he talks about is wanting to be against you in court again so you can take him down." She laughed and then added, "Okay, that's not all he talks about but it gets brought up a lot when he's talking about losing to people."
"Yep. You're a Taggart." Bob laughed.
She turned to Kurt and Blaine. "So, we may be waiting on someone?"
Kurt looked down at his watch and saw it was 1:00. "Yes. I can get ready first."
"You know what? I should probably get with your PR guy and go over some stuff in case and sign anything you want." She smiled. "I'm in no rush. Your list isn't overly long."
"That sounds great. I've actually been to events here and I can show you were people try to sneak it." Jason said.
"Great." She smiled. "So we'll do that and I'll check back in and we'll get started."
"Sounds good… but please don't sign anything. You don't need to." Kurt nodded and then gave Blaine a look when they walked away.
"Uh… Kurt… are you famous?" Bob asked.
Kurt just groaned and covered his face before going back into the room with everyone else.
1:00 PM
"Well, it's almost time, kid." Burt said gruffly.
Kurt nodded, jiggling his foot.
"I'm so pumped!" Finn said. "For the wedding and the fact that Rach took the kids."
Kurt rolled his eyes but he had to admit that Bella had been pretty annoying—that may have been Kurt's nerves which really hadn't calmed down since Marty had showed up and thrown everything out of whack, though.
"Take a deep breath." Alec, who was sitting and holding Oliver, said from a chair. "She's gone and Marc even came early to make sure she doesn't sneak in."
"Isn't he cool?" Burt asked. "Hey, who do you work for?"
"Not Marc Jacobs." Alec laughed.
"Does your boss wear skirts?"
"Yeah but I actually work with a woman." Alec nodded.
Kurt did as told, taking in a deep breath and slowly letting it out.
"On the bright side, Blaine couldn't drive himself so he didn't get into a wreck!" Finn said excitedly.
Burt pointed at him. "That's why this is going so smoothly."
"Smoothly? We lost twenty-five minutes with that hag." Kurt took another deep breath. "Why am I nervous?"
"Eric and David are here." Alec said.
"Thank God." Kurt let out a relieved sigh, feeling ten times better.
Of course they would wait for David (and by proxy Eric but mainly David), but the closer it go to picture time the, more visibly anxious Blaine had gotten.
Kurt had Finn there and Blaine needed Wes and David. The brothers.
"Great. All is good now." Burt clapped his hands as Megan came in.
"Okay, so, Kurt, I've already gotten a lot of the venue pictures done." She said, smiling brightly. "Any new getting ready photos you want that weren't on the list?"
"No." Kurt shook his head, his anxiousness beginning to turn to excitement because she was here. The photographer was here. He was about to get ready.
They were about. to. get. married!
"I've got Blaine's ring already but we're still doing your getting ready photos first. If you give me your ring, I'll take some shots of those while you start to get ready. Just be sure to not put on your shoes, your dress shirt, or your jacket."
"Okay." Kurt nodded.
Alec hopped up and brought her the ring box.
"You all can put on your stuff." She smiled at Alec, Burt, and Finn. "I'll take these rings and be back in a few minutes."
Burt grabbed Kurt's hangers and held them out. "It's show time, kid."
David popped in, ran and gave Kurt a big hug, and then ran back out without a word.
"He's so cute." Alec shook his head.
"How far behind are we?" Kurt asked, too excited (anxious? both?) to even think to look at his watch.
"Don't worry about it, kid. We've got plenty of time." Burt said, handing him the hangers. "Go get dressed."
Kurt handed him back the hanger with his dress shirt and jacket before going into the bathroom, taking a deep breath and letting it out.
He slowly and carefully pulled on his pants, making sure they didn't touch the floor although the place was spotless so it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway. Still.
He tugged off the collared shirt he was wearing and looked in the mirror, first at his face and then at the scar on his torso. He'd been 18—it had been so long ago. And yet he and Blaine were still together.
Seriously… Kurt was marrying his first and only boyfriend turned lover turned partner… about to turn husband.
They had been together since they were seventeen years old. Through undergraduate and graduate school. Moving out of city and then out of state. Starting jobs. Working up in jobs. In Blaine's case, getting a new family.
It all felt different but really, when he looked at Blaine today, he was still the same boy that had come to McKinley to try to talk to Karofsky. The same boy who had waited longer than most would have to have sex. The same boy who had driven to Ohio in the middle of the night and had dropped everything to care for Kurt. He was so much more than that now, too, though.
It was weird… having been with someone so long that you remembered them as a kid, as a young adult, and now… a 'real' adult?
But did you ever really become a real adult?
Whatever he and Blaine were adult-wise, they were each other's.
Kurt wouldn't trade Blaine in for anything.
Blaine and the family they would have within the next two months.
He was about to have babies with Blaine Anderson.
All Kurt had wanted to do was see a gay friendly school…. He just so happened to meet the friendliest, most loving person in the school. They had fallen in love, been together for years, and they were now about to get married.
How was this even real life?
"Kid, you okay?" Burt called.
"Yeah." Kurt tugged his undershirt on, pulled on his socks, and looked at his hair which was styled better than most days but the style was still Kurt. Just like Blaine's hair was just a little different but still Blaine.
By the time he opened the door Megan was there.
"Ready to start the fun?" She asked, smiling brightly.
"Yes." Kurt said earnestly, nodding.
Because it was wedding time.
1:30 PM
"So… how am I supposed to actually put this shirt on when she gets back here?" Blaine asked slowly, looking anxious. "Because the price tag said $700 and Kurt might kill me if we cut into it."
"How tight is your shirt?" Wes asked, his voice also slow.
"About as tight as yours."
Bob looked between Blaine and Wes.
"Call Charlie. He hasn't left the hospital yet." David said quickly. "Tell him to bring a splint… and a saw."
"To be reasonable, maybe we should try first? Because if he doesn't need to have it taken off, he'll have to go back in the morning to get a new cast since he's going to theme parks for his honeymoon." Bob said.
Wes grabbed the shirt and brought it over.
"I highly doubt that's happening." David said, typing out a text.
There was a knock and Eric poked his head in.
"So, uh… I'm getting Charlie to bring the cast saw… and I guess I'm going to go in on my morning off and give him a new cast?" David smiled sweetly.
Eric gave Blaine a confused look. "You want it off now for the pictures?"
"Well… I can't exactly get my dress shirt on with it." Blaine admitted. "And you guys said I needed to have a cast for three week so I'll need it put back on, right?"
Eric looked at David, the same facial expression still on his face. "Do you think he would be okay with just a splint?"
"Nope. Roller coasters." Blaine said. "Please don't take away Disney and Wizarding World of Harry Potter."
"Can you cut the shirt?"
"The shirt was $700." Blaine winced.
"What?!" Wes exclaimed.
"Kurt's a celebrity! I dunno! They just fitted it, okay? That's why Kurt paid for everyone's clothes because he's a lunatic!" Blaine explained. "I just want to go on the castle ride, Eric!"
"Say no more. I'm basically married to the same person you're marrying." Eric sighed. "I'll be in in the morning. I'll redo it, David. Blaine, just text me when you're on your way so I can conveniently remove myself from the ER."
"I really wish we would have thought about this before." Blaine sighed.
Eric, who had gotten onto his phone, put on a very serious tone. "Yeah, I'm going to need for Charlie Colloway to leave early. I need some assistance downtown… yes, at a wedding. Something with an ice sculpture, I don't know… Fine, can you have him bring a wrist split and a cast saw? No this has nothing to do with a celebrity wedding… Okay, bye. Also, I know you and Camp were banging in the breakroom so please disinfect that table. Thank you."
"When because I ate breakfast at that table?" David gasped.
"What time did you take break?"
David just groaned.
"Don't you all have janitors?" Wes asked.
"Yeah… Camp is the janitor." Eric glanced at his phone and then said, "Charlie's on the way. I hope he doesn't try to bring that on a subway…. Just kidding, Blaine."
"You missed it, Derek." Wes said eagerly as David's father came in. "This crazy lady came in and was going off about everyone within a 100 mile radius signing waivers or something and then Kurt's totally awesome PR guy came and ran her off. I've never heard Kurt use that tone before."
"Oh, I have." David shrugged. "We bonded by complaining about people when we lived together."
Blaine let out a loud laugh. "I am not surprised. I hear that tone twice a day… just kidding. At least once a week, though."
"I'll make sure Charlie knows where to go." Eric said before leaving the room.
Blaine jiggled his foot anxiously but perked up when Adrian and Matt walked in.
"Everything looks so nice. We may have snooped a bit." Adrian said, waving at everyone. "AJ's literally dying. I mean, not actually literally but she says she's literally dying. Why do girls do that?"
"She's weird." Wes shrugged. "Hey, David, when are you going to propose?"
"Not the day." David pointed at him.
"'Cause I heard you were maybe going to do it tomorrow."
"What?!" Blaine gasped.
"Yeah I know you heard that but I'm really going to do it on Wednesday." David shrugged. "And if she ruins it for herself, she's going to have to just deal with it because Mom is getting on my last nerve. Marcy is too actually. She's in the weepy stage where she's 'fat' and 'ugly.' She's gained seven pounds. I don't want to talk about this."
Wes snorted as the photographer came in. "Oh, you didn't get ready!"
"I'm waiting on a saw." Blaine said lamely.
"Saw is here." Charlie said, coming in.
"Wait. Literally a saw?" Megan gasped. "This is so cool. You two are my favorite by far… and you're so sweet!"
"Well, Blaine, Kurt looks pretty good. I dunno if you can top it." Burt grinned, sitting next to Bob.
"But Kurt did not have a saw." Megan pointed out.
"Saw?" Burt looked confused.
"Shirt won't fit with the cast." Blaine said.
"Can I do it?" Wes asked eagerly.
"No." David, Eric, and Charlie all three said at the same time.
"Geeze, guys. Fine." Wes pouted.
"You've got regular clothes too, right?" Bob gave Charlie a look.
"Yep. Well, I will soon. Mom's bringing them since I got held up." Charlie gave him the look right back and then turned to Blaine. "It's not sharp and won't cut you… but it's probably going to tickle."
"Oh, I know. I messed up my leg once." Blaine said, holding out his arm.
"Wait, you said— You forgot because you were drugged up, didn't you?" Charlie asked.
"Totally." Blaine nodded, indeed laughing when Charlie started to saw his cast open.
He was well aware Megan was taking photos too.
"Done." Charlie said after half a minute, tossing the hard part in the trash and then pulling the rest of the stuff off. He then carefully put the splint on and pointed towards the bathroom door.
"This is literally so cool." Megan said. "It really doesn't hurt? I've never had a cast before."
"Nope. It just tickles because of the vibrations when it's cutting through the papery stuff." Charlie explained and then turned to Bob. "I'm going to go get my clothes from Mom. I'll be back."
"We aren't too far behind, are we?" Burt asked the photographer.
"No." She shook her head. "If we run low on time, we'll take less portraits of the two of them now, take the family ones, and I'll pull them away after to finish. Sunset pictures are always good anyway. Don't worry. I pretty much expect stuff to happen… usually saws aren't involved, though. The blog for this one will be good even if I can't publish it."
"You can." Blaine said, coming out. "Okay, so…"
"Don't worry about being down a hand. Creates more photo ops." Megan reassured him.
"Guess that's why he's here." Burt pointed at Bob and gave Blaine a pointed look as Charlie came back in.
"Two down, three to go, Dad." Charlie said, grinning as Bob went to help Blaine button his dress shirt.
"So, the… family pictures…" Blaine said.
"Don't even." Bob gave him the look he always gave Blaine when he overthought the father-son things they did. He then joked, "I've put up with you every day for six years and I deserve this."
Burt let out a very loud laugh at that.
Blaine saw David and Wes share a look—and also watched Megan snap a picture of the look.
"Do you want to do the tie?" Bob asked Burt.
"Shoo, handling Kurt was enough for me." Burt said. "He's such a perfectionist. Blaine's all yours."
"Surely Kurt isn't a prefectionist." Blaine laughed.
"I have to tell you all that I've dealt with some very dysfunctional and crazy people at weddings but everyone I've encountered so far today has been sweet, funny, and very welcoming." Megan said. "Even Kurt… although I may be able to see what you're talking about."
Blaine and Burt both laughed loudly at that.
"I was very tempted to bring out the Dalton ties." Wes said. "For old time's sake."
"Oh God. Kurt would have killed me."
"That's why I didn't." Wes laughed.
"What do I do if my shoe comes untied?" Blaine laughed.
"Look like a toddler by having someone tie it for you." David joked.
"I hate you." Blaine gave a mock glare and then let out a deep breath.
"Now we're going to take pictures until you're ready and then I'm stealing you away for the first look and pictures with Kurt. At 2:45 we'll have the family photos—I've got the list with your brother's family as well as the Thompson's and Chang's as well. Okay?" Megan asked. "And then you're going to get married!"
Bob sat with Burt, letting David and Wes help Blaine get the rest of the way ready.
"We're in for a long day with those two." Burt said.
"Yep." Bob nodded. "We are."
"It's worth every second, though."
2:15 PM
This is it.
It's really starting.
Kurt took a deep breath, able to see the photographer setting Blaine up in the spot she'd chosen.
He'd kind of thought his dad would be with him to this point since he'd come back after Blaine was dressed and ready to go, but at the same time… it would be more special this way.
Just he and Blaine.
It was unreal, really. That they were here, right now, doing this.
Getting married in… what, two hours or something?
Kurt watched Blaine laughing with the photographer and he smiled because he just loved Blaine.
He felt mushy, all this mushy gushy stuff, and his heart was racing, and breathing was a bit difficult and overwhelming at times, but they were getting married!
Of course, he couldn't really see Blaine too well but even from far away, he looked handsome.
He saw Megan gesture for him and went down, so excited he had to tell himself to not run because if he tripped in this suit...
No.
He didn't want to think about that.
He was actively not thinking about how much money they had spent on all the suits they'd purchased—because there was no way they were asking the wedding party to shell out that kind of money.
"Okay." She smiled when he reached her. "I'm going to go to the side so I can get shots. I want you to walk behind Blaine, touch his left shoulder, he'll turn back to look at you, and I'll take pictures. Hug, kiss, talk, whatever you want to do. I'll just shoot for a couple of minutes and then we'll walk the grounds and get some portraits until 2:45 when the family comes out. We'll get David and Wes' family first, then Alex's, and then we'll pull in your family and the Colloways."
Kurt nodded, not sure he trusted himself to speak at that moment.
"If we don't get all the portraits we need, I'll pull you away during the reception. If we do, I'll still pull you away for sunset pictures though because this place is gorgeous."
Kurt nodded again.
"I know you're barely listening to me so go on." She laughed and got her camera ready.
He slowly walked over, mainly to make sure he didn't trip over his own feet.
From this moment, he and Blaine wouldn't be apart for the rest of the day. At least not like earlier, not for almost two hours.
They would be together through photos, the ceremony, a quiet dinner alone (Burt had insisted otherwise he knew they wouldn't eat), and then the reception up until they went left as newlyweds.
Which was crazy.
It was really and truly here.
But did she say left shoulder or right?
Left made more sense so they'd be in a better position for the camera and that was the whole point of a first look, right?
Kurt looked up briefly as he made it close enough to Blaine and then reached out, tapping Blaine's left shoulder.
Blaine turned—Kurt was sure it was quicker than it seemed— and locked eyes with him. Tears immediately filled his eyes and he grabbed Kurt's hand with his good one, looking down at his tux with a shocked sort of smile on his face.
"You take my breath away." Kurt said, very sincerely as he looked at Blaine who of course looked perfect in his own tux.
"You take mine away too. Oh my God. You look so good!" Blaine gasped, looking down. He then laughed. "We pretty much have on the same shoes."
"I can't believe this." Kurt said, his own eyes teary now as well.
"Is this really happening?" Blaine asked.
"Yes." Kurt pulled him into a hug, careful not to jostle his injured hand too much because he'd been warned that Blaine had a splint on until the morning and he knew that wouldn't have quite as much support. The last thing he wanted was for Blaine's hand to bother him all night.
Blaine returned the hug and Kurt let out a deep breath, burying his face and taking in Blaine's scent.
He had debated buying Blaine a special, new perfume for their wedding day but he was very glad he didn't because the familiar scent was comforting.
They were here doing this huge thing but they were still them. Still two seventeen year old boys who met, fell in love, and happened to be one of the few lucky ones to have stayed together… even if there were quite a few bumps to get in the way.
"I love you so much." Blaine breathed when Kurt pulled away.
"I love you so much." Kurt repeated, touching Blaine's cheek and then getting the most adorable, excited smile on his face.
"Oh my God. This is happening." Blaine's eyes teared up again. "Kurt."
"I know." Kurt pulled him into another hug and then pulled back to kiss him. "It's here."
Megan came up. "Okay. I figured you would want to take some photos in front of the entrance and the police are out front so if you want to go ahead and get those out of the way, we can backtrack after and get some photos different places. We should be able to get two or three places on the grounds before 2:45 when we start the family photos."
"That sounds good." Blaine nodded and looked at Kurt, who also nodded.
"Okay." She smiled brightly and then said, "I know you didn't really, uh, get this popular until after the engagement but I don't plan to post any pictures or anything."
"No." Kurt shook his head. "We wanted to use you because you're so supportive of the LGBT family and we don't want you to do anything differently. That's why I don't want you to sign anything. You do sneak peaks and blogs on the weddings and we're completely fine with it."
"Yeah." Blaine nodded. "But it'd be great if you don't post any until we leave here today because, well… they'll figure it out when we go outside for the pictures anyway but—"
"Completely understood." She smiled. "Also, your PR guy will be out there. He's pretty cute."
"Oh, I know." Kurt laughed and then added, "He's single too… just throwing that out there."
She laughed and led them back through the building towards the entrance. When they stepped outside, they saw several uniformed officers just handing around. Jason was outside with them as well, looking at his cell phone with a bored expression on his face.
"Hey." Kurt said, going up to him.
"Hey. I'm just going to hang around when you're, you know, in with the public." Jason shrugged. "When you're in there and all, I won't stalk you."
"That's fi—"
"Hey, you're gonna delete that picture in front of me right now or my boys in blue are gonna take the phone. You've got two options, kid." Jason suddenly said, perking up.
"They won't let you do that." A girl in her early 20's said, gesturing at the police.
"He's our boss right now, lady." One of the officers said. "Delete the photo… all three. Dude, you were there two seconds."
"Tap, tap, tap." She said and looked at Kurt. "I think you're amazing."
"Thanks…" Kurt said slowly.
"Congrats, by the way. I assume this is your wedding?"
"Actually, it's my baptism." Blaine said.
"Marty hates him but I love him." Jason told Kurt as the police ushered the girl off, asking her to please not post about it.
The officers moved into the sidewalk blocking people from getting in the way as Megan took several photos of them.
"Okay, I'm done."
"Mr. Hummel, my daughter is a student at Parsons and is a big fan. Is it okay if I get a picture with you two?" One of the officers said.
Jason looked at Kurt but didn't say anything.
"Sure!" Kurt said.
"She really likes you too." The officer said, standing by Blaine for the picture.
"I'm the cuter one. I get it." Blaine joked as Kurt rolled his eyes.
"Thank you." The officer said before they went back inside.
"We shouldn't need anyone else for the rest of the shots. I've actually never shot photos in or at a winery before." Megan said, leading them back into the building and down a hall. "There's barrel rooms, outdoors is beautiful, the greenhouse is amazing. This place seems to fit both of you. I've never shot for a fashion designer before but from pictures of weddings I've seen, they're usually in spotless areas and just all… blah. I like unique."
"Well, Blaine told me I could pick but I knew he'd like something like this." Kurt shrugged and smiled. "Inside, outside, there are elegant rooms and more industrial ones. A place like this fits both of us."
"I agree… also, I heard we get free booze since he's famous and that's fun at weddings, right?"
Blaine smiled sweetly when Kurt sent him a look.
2:40 PM
"Are you sure it's not too much having them in the pictures?" Blaine whispered anxiously. "Bob seemed jittery."
They had just finished taking pictures with David, Wes, and their families.
Sure, they'd started a bit early but that was okay.
"He's jittery because Brady got stuck in traffic." Kurt whispered back, sitting in one of the chairs behind the Brooklyn winery. "It sounded like he'd made it, though, and Dad was going to let him in."
"Notice how it got a little, uh, louder?" Blaine asked.
Kurt sighed a bit and nodded.
"Sorry."
"It's okay." Kurt shrugged. "I guess I have to get used to the fact that you're not the only one who knows how awesome I am now."
Blaine smiled, one of the ones where his eyes got squinty, and kissed Kurt's shoulder. "I think it's time everyone else figures it out… as long as they don't steal you away."
"Never." Kurt shook his head. "It's always been you."
"I know. It's always been you too." Blaine said, his smile now soft.
"You see Thad?" Kurt joked.
"I, uhm…" Blaine gave an awkward laugh.
"What?" Kurt pulled back.
"Well he called me at work the other day and confessed his undying love… so I asked him to kindly not come… because you're right. I shouldn't have invited him. I thought, what, ten years might have made it go away? I guess not." Blaine shrugged a bit.
"I told you!" Kurt exclaimed. "I told you!"
"Yeah. I know. You're always right." Blaine said as Burt walked up.
"'Bout time you learned it, bud." Burt chuckled.
"Did you get Brady?"
"Yeah, he's kinda cute." Burt laughed, gesturing to where Bob, Brady, and Brady's boyfriend were walking out.
Brady was walking ahead and his boyfriend was laughing at something Bob said. Seconds later Brady turned and gave them both the same glare Blaine had seen Bob give many people.
"I hope they get married." Sarah said coming up over to Kurt, Blaine, and Burt.
"Yeah?" Burt asked.
"He's sweet and keeps Brady out of trouble." Sarah nodded as Miles struggled to break free from her grasp. "Miles, please!"
"I want Daddy!"
"Daddy's busy!"
"No, he's not. I see him. DADDDDYYYYY!"
Bob bent down and held his arms open, giving Sarah a look.
She sighed, set Miles down, and waited for him to be in Bob's arms before returning her attention to them. "He babies them but Charlie and Brady are still alive so I guess it's not that bad, right?"
"Nah." Burt shook his head.
Sarah went over, hugging Blaine and Kurt. "We're so happy for you two. This place is so pretty. How much did you have to pay?"
"Venue itself was $48,000." Kurt said.
"Wait, what?" Blaine looked confused.
"When you asked how much we'd spent… you didn't specify on what." Kurt smiled sweetly.
"Total?"
Kurt mouthed something to her.
"What was that?" Blaine asked.
"Don't worry. Only $50,000 came out of yours." Kurt promised.
"But now I'm really curious."
"Are you sure? You aid you didn't want to know." Kurt looked at him skeptically.
"I'm positive."
"$78, 677 plus tips."
Blaine began to cough and Sarah patted his back.
"Sweetie, at least that's less than your Harvard tuition! Honestly, Jake and Liz got married after the twins had already been born and they spent… like $100,000." Sarah said.
"What?!" Blaine gasped.
"Yeah. They waited forever. She had started a wedding fund when they got engaged. They were engaged for, like, nine years… and they'd come up with a set amount of money to come out of their checks and go into a wedding account. I think Jake forgot money was even coming out." Sarah nodded. "I mean, he's pretty loaded because he's worked in New York City since he graduated Harvard."
"How long were they together before they got married?"
"Uh… they got together when we were 21, I think. So a really long time. If I give you a concrete number it'll show my age." Sarah said.
"15 years or something." Bob said coming up. Miles was literally hanging from his arm like a monkey.
"I don't want hear it when your back hurts." Sarah threatened.
"Jokes on you, Sar. It always hurts." Bob grunted and stood Miles up. He, of course, took off running. "Your turn."
"I carried him for nine months."
"Wrong. Eight and a quarter. Your turn." Bob said.
Sarah sighed and walked away, calling, "Emily, get your brother!"
Seconds later they heard Sam go, "Got him!"
"God, we're so dysfunctional." Bob groaned.
"It's great." Kurt said as Bob wrapped an arm around Blaine's shoulder.
"You say that until you live with them. God, don't have five. Just don't do it." Bob shook his head.
"You've got six." Kurt pointed out.
"Yeah. He's my favorite because I didn't have to pay his high school, undergrad and law tuition." Bob joked, giving Blaine a squeeze and looking at Kurt. "But then you count you and Emma and it's eight… I also didn't pay for your guys' schooling so you're higher up as well."
"Think Brady and Andrew will get married?" Blaine asked.
"I don't know." Bob dropped his arm and shrugged. "I wouldn't be upset if they did but, you know, Brady's… Brady."
"Would you be happy?" Kurt asked.
"You know what? If Brady's happy, I'm happy. Right now I'm ecstatic that you two are here and we're about to take family pictures. Thank you both so much. It means a lot to all of us." Bob smiled at them.
"Are you sure it's not weird?" Blaine asked.
"Blaine, there is almost nothing about our relationship that isn't weird." Bob laughed. "You need to just let that go. If you're happy, don't worry about what anything looks like. Do you not want to do it?"
"No! I do!" Blaine said quickly.
"Then we're doing it." Bob smiled and looked at Kurt. "Did he always worry this much?"
"Oh yeah. It took him a couple of years with my dad." Kurt nodded.
"Sometimes I worry about people at work but that's it." Blaine confessed.
"Fuck anyone that thinks anything of it." Bob shrugged again. "I don't care what anyone thinks. You and Kurt are family and they can get the hell over it. I'll tell that to their faces if I need to."
"Yeah. That's what I worry about." Blaine laughed.
"I'm going to go check on the photographer." Kurt said, gesturing towards Megan who was talking with Jason.
"How do you feel?"
"Excited. I'm not even nervous anymore." Blaine smiled.
"Good. You shouldn't be." Bob gave him a look.
"What are you and Ryan going to do next week? Neither Adrian or I there? At least Ryan could talk loud and I could answer him."
"God, it'll be quiet like it was before you two joined back in Cambridge." Bob looked confused. "Apart from when my dad died and when you were in Ohio with Kurt and his dad, I don't think I've gone this long without seeing you."
"Don't worry. You can take us to the airport bright and early and pick us up when we get back."
"It's like you think I like you or something." Bob laughed. "So… what are you two doing about the whole aisle thing? How does that work in a gay wedding?"
"Uhm… we didn't really look up the custom but we're walking each other down." Blaine said. "I mean, we're not being given away and it seemed awkward to be standing up there already when people came so… we're just going to walk down together. I think Finn, Alec, David, Wes, and Adrian will walk separately and we'll follow behind."
"Going down and going back up together. That's nice." Bob nodded. "I think they're gesturing for us to come. Sorry if my children ruin your pictures."
"They can't ruin them any more than I can." Blaine sighed a bit.
"This is it. Last thing to do before the big 'I do.'" Bob gave him a look, walking towards the rest of everybody.
"You offering me a getaway car?" Blaine joked.
"Hell no. I'm offering Kurt a getaway car." Bob gave him a look.
"That was rude… but Burt and Kurt probably had a very similar conversation."
"I'm sure they did." Bob laughed.
4:00 PM
"Oh wow." Kurt said, glancing around the corner and seeing people sitting down. Families in front, friends in back.
Although the term family was pretty relative in this ceremony, but still.
"I didn't know we knew that many people we were close too." Blaine whispered, peeking as well.
"I know we saw Quinn recently but I swear her belly has grown. I want to touch it." Kurt stuck out his lower lip. He then looked confused. "I know Puck was in dress clothes at Finn and Rachel's wedding but it's still weird. I still think of him with the mohawk even if he hasn't had it in years."
"I also totally forgot Nick and Jeff have two kids." Blaine whispered again. "Do you think Hunter's gay? Maybe I should have let Thad come and they could have hooked up."
"No, Blaine. No." Kurt shook his head and sighed a bit. "Carole's dress is so pretty. I did a good job."
"You always do." Blaine said. He then titled his head. "It's weird seeing Pastor Gabe. I honestly am surprised he remembered who I was to tell you the truth. I don't think I've been to church since I was thirteen… maybe on holidays when I was fourteen."
"He was really nice yesterday." Kurt said. "I've never really gone to a church but he's nothing like I thought he would be."
"He's actually got a trans son. He's a few years younger than us. Before he came out as lesbian and a couple of years later, he transitioned." Blaine whispered. "I never knew him super well with the way they divided the kids by groups, but he was always super nice and Gabe was always super supportive… I bet my family quit going when that all came out."
"Psst. Whatcha doing?" Wes asked, poking Blaine's side. "Are you literally sitting here having this conversation about nothing when you're about to walk down the aisle to get married?"
"Marcy, what are you doing?!" David quietly exclaimed, looking over Kurt's shoulder. "Ollie is literally—oh God. He just picked a booger, put it in his mouth, took it out and wiped it on that lady's dress. Shoot me."
"Are you kidding?" Wes asked. "Scarlett peed on herself. She's basically wearing a mock pull up made of kitchen towels that Marcy stole for Alicia."
Kurt looked at them both, horrified.
"Uh, your time is coming." David gave him a look.
"Baha. Ollie did it again." Blaine suddenly giggled.
David pulled out his cell phone. Seconds later Marcy looked back in their direction and answered it.
"Ollie just picked a booger, put it in his mouth, took it up, and put it on the lady's purple dress…. Twice!?"
Marcy's eyes widened as she looked down, seeing Oliver about to wipe a third booger on her face.
David cringed and hung up the phone as she pulled Oliver onto her lap. "That's not my kid."
"Sorry to break it to you but you are one of very few black people here." Wes laughed. "Ollie is very clearly mixed and is too dark to be mine."
Kurt covered his mouth to keep a laugh from escaping.
"What's going on?" Adrian asked.
Blaine quietly told him.
Adrian turned, walked several feet, and nearly doubled over laughing.
"He needed that." Kurt told Blaine.
Marcy must have heard because she turned in her seat, glaring back at all of them.
Finn came up behind Adrian and put a hand on his shoulder, bending down to check on him.
They saw Adrian just nod, laughing not ceasing.
"What did I miss?" Alec asked, standing next to Kurt.
David sighed and very quietly told him.
Finn burst out laughing too and more people turned back.
"You all are going to get me into serious trouble!" David exclaimed. "She's already moody because she's super freaking horny and, sorry, not much I can do about that now. We're at a wedding."
Adrian, who had regained his composure, turned and took a deep breath. "How many more minutes?"
"Now." The wedding planner, who had been waiting on a text from her assistant who was out front, smiled brightly.
Both Kurt and Blaine's eyes widened.
"Just like yesterday." The wedding planner reminded them. "David, Finn, Wes, Alec, Adrian."
"Love you both. Blaine, don't trip!" David said before walking out.
"But—" Blaine said. "Did—
"Yep." Kurt said after Finn gave him a hug and walked out.
"Seriously, Blainers. No tripping." Wes waved and headed out himself.
"Holy—"
"Fuck." Kurt said when Alec squeezed his arm and walked out.
"Why are they walking so fast?!" Blaine exclaimed.
"They aren't." The planner laughed. "You're just anxious so it seems like they are."
Adrian gave both of them a big hug before walking out.
"I love you so much." Kurt whispered, grabbing Blaine's hand. "And no matter what happens in our future, I want us to always remember this moment right now. You are so special to me, Blaine, and I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with you too."
"Kurt. I love you too." Blaine's eyes teared up. "And if you think I could ever forget this feeling, you are completely crazy. I wouldn't want to do life with anyone else and I'm so happy we're here today. This is it. You and us forever."
Kurt's eyes teared up too and he took a deep breath. "So, let's walk down and, uhm, do this?"
"I don't think we have much of a choice at this point." Blaine laughed, changing positions so they could walk down holding hands.
"Don't fall." Kurt whispered as they walked onto the aisle.
"Thanks, Katy." Blaine joked, meaning the first picture of them taken was probably Kurt beginning to laugh.
And, really, when you thought about it, that was pretty them.
…
"I've known Blaine a lot longer than I've known Kurt. Truth be told, I actually just met him in person this week." The officiant, or Gabe as Blaine had told Kurt before, announced. "Most of us in this room are from a much, much smaller place than New York City and I've done several weddings for kids that I've had through my church but this is definitely the smallest wedding I've done in the biggest city I've ever been to. I'm very excited to be here because as a pastor, you get to know these little kids that come through and you see they aren't little very long. They go on to do bigger and better things and if they're lucky they end up in front of me—or another officiant— and they get to vow their love to their person. They go from singing in Sunday school to in some cases singing in theme parks and acapella boy bands apparently? I think that's how Mr. Chang described it at least."
There was some laughter.
"Coming in after such a long lapse of time seeing Blaine and having never officially met Kurt, I was a little worried. Time passes and people change. I can say Blaine's height hasn't changed much since he was fourteen… his hair length and voice definitely have, though… and I assume he's making a lot more money now than he was at King's Island and that country club he worked at for a hot week. It was literally in the 100's—probably didn't help him want to keep that job. But last night we had the rehearsal dinner and I got to spend time with Blaine's friends and family… and Kurt's as well. I was sitting at a table with Kurt's family and one of his aunt's brought up an incident in a mall twenty years ago."
Kurt's jaw dropped.
"Those of you from Ohio probably remember because it was big time news for Ohio." He laughed. "A little boy got away from the people he was with for, what, four hours? Seven hours? Mall shut down. I think it took three groups of seven police officers to find him… In the end, it wasn't even the police that found him. It was his aunt—and I wasn't surprised to hear it was in a Macy's amongst some clothing displays since he's a fashion designer."
"Oh. My. God!" Paige loudly whispered. "Taylor!"
"I thought this is great." He continued. "Because when Blaine was around the same age—his older brother Alex will definitely remember this— Blaine did something different… but very similar."
"Oh shit." Alex groaned, not even attempting to whisper.
David's dad let out a loud laugh and Wes' dad clapped his hands, turning to look at Alex.
"Blaine was… six? Maybe five?"
"I don't know what you're about to say." Blaine gasped. It was loud enough for everyone to hear through the microphone.
"I know, son. That's the best part about all of this." Gabe laughed. "The Andersons had a house in Lexington, KY. It would have been Alex and Blaine's great grandparents house but by then they had passed, so the families kind of used it as a little vacation place until they eventually sold it. It was pretty close to the horse park and it's a college town so there's always stuff to do. Well, Alex is there visiting from school and he's alone in the house with Blaine."
"Oh no." David said, prompting more laughter.
"Blaine's bored and begging Alex to take him somewhere. Right?"
Alex nodded, looking like he wanted to crawl into a hole.
"Blaine quits after fifteen minutes of whining, takes his stuffed dog, goes to his bike—which still has training wheels on it."
There was loud laughter.
"Puts his dog in the little basket—there's a basket!— and Blaine decides he's going to go on his own. I don't know if you know much about Lexington, Kentucky but there's this large road. It's a circle, kind of wraps around the city to make it easier to get places. Cars go near highway speeds…. The house is pretty close to that and I guess Blaine thinks he knows where he's going. This little boy makes it onto New Circle and not too long after he makes it onto the road—the side of the road, of course, because he told the police officer it wasn't safe to be on the 'real' road with the cars—"
More loud laughter.
"People start calling the police. So, you've got these different police cars on New Circle, speeding with lights and sirens on and trying to find this short curly haired boy with a dog snuffed animal on a bike with training wheels." He laughed. "Well, it doesn't take them long to find him. Officer pulls up a bit ahead of him, walks back and asks him what's going on and he says he's not allowed to talk to strangers. Blaine argues with this officer for a good three minutes and he finally asks Blaine where he's going. Blaine's trying to get to an Auntie Anne's pretezel shop. Guy tries to call his parents and they don't answer and Blaine doesn't remember Alex's phone number so he tries to take Blaine home—puts his bike in the back with Blaine, you know. Pretzel place is on the way so he swings by, gets Blaine a pretzel and a Coke."
"No. it would have been Dr. Pepper." Burt called from the front row.
"Gets his Dr. Pepper and takes him home. Alex opens the door and Blaine's eaten a quarter of a pretzel, his dog under his arm, and he officer is holding the Dr. Pepper in one hand and the bike in the other. Alex didn't even know he was gone!"
Kurt doubled over laughing. "A pretzel, Blaine?!"
"Hey, they're good. I got them all the time when I was at UK too." Blaine said.
"Kid knows it's true." Gabe laughed at Blaine, who still looked confused. "I heard the story about Kurt last night and I knew. I knew this was going to last because these two kids who ran away ended up somehow coming together against all odds because let me tell you. Lima and Westerville are not close. But somehow these two young men in front of us did meet and we're all here today. Call it fate, God's will, luck, what have you. In a world that is sometimes so hard to bear, and I know they've been through a lot, they found each other. And that's special so we've got to get you married, like, now."
Kurt nodded eagerly.
"We have been invited here today to share with Kurt Elijah Hummel and Blaine Wyatt Anderson a very important moment in their lives. These two young men have been together for ten years now and in this time together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now they have decided to live their lives together as husband and husband. Today we, as guests to this, are taking ourselves out of our usual routines and instead are choosing to witness these two as they join their lives in the union of marriage.
To all their guests, they are so very happy to share this moment with you They have known most of you for several years. You've watched them grow up, you went to school with them, or you've worked with them. You all are the ones who know them so well and have supported them. It is only fitting that you get to share in this once in a lifetime moment with them.
Nobody is giving anybody away today because that's a bit antiquated. Instead, they are presenting themselves to be married while surrounded by the people they love the most.
As Blaine and Kurt prepared for their ceremony today, I asked them to reflect on what it is that they love about each other and that proved to be easy for them because I received emails from both of them with answers within twelve hours. "
Gabe held his binder in his arms but looked at Kurt.
"Kurt, Blaine sees you as a funny, compassionate, and inspiring man. He loves your strength and your ability to persevere through anything that comes your way. He loves that you are the most positive person he knows. He loves that you are warm and affectionate and how you always remember little details of the stories he tells. How you push him to do things that he maybe wouldn't do without you there and how you always support him 100% even if you aren't 'so sure' he's making the best choice. Most importantly, you are so close to him that even when he is at his worst, you never made him feel like you want anything but to be closer to him."
Kurt sniffled a bit, eyes teary as Gabe turned to Blaine.
"Blaine, Kurt sees you as intelligent, captivating, and funny. He loves that you put 110% into everything that you do and that you will go out of your way to help random strangers. He loves your brain, your smile, and your hugs. He loves that you've overcome so much to get to where you are today in life—through school, work, and everything. He loves that you blend in so comfortably and perfectly with his family and that you both fit so well into each other's groups of friends. How you'll send him motivational texts on stressful days the same way you used to when you were both seventeen years old. He also loves that you always want to be close to him whenever you are together and hopes you know that he always wants to be close to you too."
Blaine gave a teary smile, squeezing Kurt's hand.
Gabe turned to the audience.
"Marriage is not something that has to be done in a church and I don't have to stand up here and preach at you all, or these two, to make it a marriage. Marriage is not something tied to a law or even a ceremony. It's the joining of two hearts. It doesn't come from the Bible, the Quran, or the Vedas. Getting married isn't some magic trick that can create a union between two people that doesn't already exist. Marriage is commitment, an equal partnership between two people—in this case two men. These commitments already exist between Kurt and Blaine. This ceremony is a symbol of the promise they are making to each other—to continue to live their lives together and to love each other solely and above all others. They've been doing it for ten years and they're going to do it at least fifty more.
They've been doing this a long time but marriage needs the help of a community—friends and family who will be there when they need it and will do everything they can during the hard times that come. We all know the trying times come and sometimes these two might have a hard time seeing the other side although most of us know they've already been through a hell of a lot. But that's why they've got us. Blaine and Kurt are going to need us here one day to support the union that we're witnessing today. We'll need to nurture the bond between these two young men that we all care for—and we all care, boys. A lot. We want you to come to us when it's hard because that's our job here today. Everyone in here is your cheerleaders.
The fun part is coming, boys, I promise. But marriage, like a wedding ceremony, takes work, patience, and time. It also takes a commitment from both of you… a commitment to do whatever it takes to make your relationship thrive. To love each other this much always.
I've got copies of your vows should you want to read them off it, but we're here. The end of the beginning. The end of your partnership and the beginning of a lifelong marriage."
"Can I go first?" Blaine asked excitedly.
Gabe handed him the mic.
Blaine held it up and said, "I'm getting flashbacks to King's Island and I don't know how I feel about this."
"You love being the center of attention. Don't even." Everyone up front could hear Kurt say even though he wasn't talking into the mic.
"Kurt, there is a moment when you say to yourself 'oh, there you are. I've been looking for you forever." Blaine began.
"Don't you even dare cop out like that. I spent hours on mine, Blaine!" Kurt exclaimed.
Blaine held up a finger and looked up, trying to make sure he was remembering it right. "Watching you sing Blackbird that week ten years ago… that was a moment for me about you. The first of many, many moments. You move me, Kurt. And getting married would just be an excuse to spend more time with you."
David rolled his eyes and Wes literally sat down on the ground, raising both of his hands in a shrug as several Warblers laughed loudly.
"That is not even funny, Blaine." Everyone could hear Kurt speaking again.
Gabe just looked at everyone, clearly confused, as Blaine gestured for Wes to get up.
"I'm sorry. I honestly did that for the reaction but if it had worked, it would have saved some time." Blaine laughed and then took a proffered sheet of paper from Gabe. "Kurt, I feel like the luckiest person on Earth to be standing here, with you, today. I love you so much."
Kurt smiled when Blaine looked up.
Really, he was glancing at his sheet but not reading from it.
"Kurt, you are my love. I promise to always make time for us, to hold your hand every chance I get, and to hug you just because. I promise to be your biggest fan—excluding Burt, of course. I will encourage you to chase your dreams, to believe you can achieve them, and to tell you I told you so when you achieve them—because I totally did tell you so and I'll keep telling you so with each new dream and goal you set."
Kurt's smile grew and he kept eye contact with Blaine when he wasn't looking at his sheet.
"I promise to tell you how much I love you often and to always make you feel loved because I love you so much." Blaine's voice cracked a bit. "I promise to love your family as though they were my own because, really, they already are. I promise that no matter what happens, I will always be right by your side—never in front of or behind because we're a team."
Kurt wiped his eyes.
"I promise to love you in the best of times and the worst of times—when life seems easy and when it seems hard. Mostly importantly, I promise to love you forever and always… I also promise to make sure I'm not hungry when I get mad at you because I realize sometimes that's a problem."
Kurt let out a loud laugh before wiping his eyes and taking the microphone from Blaine.
"Blaine, you're a lot better at words than I am so I'm going to apologize in advance."
Blaine shook his head and squeezed Kurt's free hand.
Kurt gave him a bright smile before beginning to read.
"There's an element of fate in all things in life—like the fact that I showed up at your school the very day I did and you were on that very same staircase at that moment, the fact that you're now my best friend, the fact that my best friend turned into the love of my life. We have been through so much together in these last ten years and nothing will ever tear us apart. These things are why I'm adding 'husband' to that list. Because we are fate. In marrying you, I promise to always lift you up and make you feel understood. I promise to stop and listen to everything you're saying even when you're mostly hangry and don't even know what you're trying to say yourself—I did not add that in because of Blaine's comment, either."
Blaine laughed this time, an adorable lovesick smile on his face.
"I promise to laugh at all your stupid puns. I promise to always support you in any way you need and to help nurture your dreams—although you're killing it yourself without any help. I promise to make sure you know, Blaine, that you deserve the best out of life despite what people may have led you to believe in the past. I promise to make you feel as loved as you make me feel every day. Most of all, I promise to always put you, us, and our family first. I love you so, so much and nothing will change that. We are getting our happily ever after and it's beginning today… and it'll just get happier in November when the twins are born."
There were several gasps—clearly from school friends that had no idea they were about to have children.
"I'll even promise to let you listen to Teenage Dream again but you have to promise to not try to serenade me with it every single time." Kurt finished, laughing and reaching to squeeze Blaine's hand again.
Gabe took the binder and closed it at the podium.
"Blaine and Kurt, no one but you can declare yourselves married. You have begun it here today in speaking your vows before your family and friends and you will do it again in the days and years to come as you stand by each other and share all that is sweet and bitter in life. Each tender act and each loving word will be the declaration of what promise has been made here today.
Therefore, it is my joyful responsibility to officially announce you two as husbands. You can now seal your marriage with a kiss."
Blaine leaned over, one hand cupping Kurt's cheek, and kissed him slowly.
Kurt reached his opposite hand up to Blaine's cheek, eagerly and almost hungrily kissing him back. He knew tears were spilling over and he could feel tears on Blaine's face as well so when they finally pulled out of the kiss, he wrapped his arms around Blaine in a tight hug.
"It is with extreme pleasure that I introduce to you Kurt and Blaine Anderson-Hummel!" Gabe said after they finally pulled apart, prompting loud cheers. "I believe they need to take some quick wedding party photos but everyone else can follow the lovely wedding coordinator—who is probably very tired— to the reception so we can all eat."
Everyone but the wedding party and family headed out with the coordinator.
Burt was the first one over to them, pulling both of them into hug at the same time. Carole came up behind them, putting a hand on each of Kurt and Blaine's back, tears in her own eyes.
When they all pulled apart, Melody stood between Kurt and Blaine and started to bawl.
"Sweetie!" Kurt scooped her up and Blaine brushed her hair out of her face.
"I-I-I'm just so happy!" She cried, wiping her eyes.
"You'll be even happier when you get some cake. It's delicious." Blaine laughed.
She twisted around in Blaine's arms, clearly wanting a hug.
"See? Here again, unloved." Finn joked.
"You were already official, Finn!" Melody snapped, sounding and looking very much like Kurt.
Wes let out a loud laugh. "We see who she takes after."
Kurt nodded, not even able to argue with that one after his fit with Martie earlier.
"Sweetie, we need to let them go finish their pictures so they can eat. We've got a party to attend." Carole said gently. "As soon as they finish the pictures and eat a bit, they'll come out and we can spend some time with them, okay?"
Kurt handed her off to Blaine and went to hug Sarah and Bob, who had come over as well.
"Well, no backing out now." Bob joked. "Stuck forever. I know they say there's divorce but good luck getting them to sign the paper."
"Robbie." Sarah glared at him and then punched him in the arm.
"That hurt." Bob scoffed.
"Man up." She rolled her eyes. "Don't listen to him. Marriage is wonderful…"
Kurt laughed.
Sarah went over to Melody. "Hi, honey. Do you remember Emily? I think she's probably pretty bored because you're the closest to her age."
Melody, who still had her arms wrapped around Blaine's neck, nodded.
"We can take you to her if you want."
"Yeah and you can eat." Blaine scrunched his nose up adorably. "I can't even eat yet."
"Call me pumpkin." Melody demanded.
"Pumpkin." Blaine kissed her cheek.
"You two better not be gone long 'cause I'm your guest of honor." Melody pointed at both of them.
"Hey, Mel, I heard there's potato candy." Burt said. "Grammy has it."
Melody tore off in the direction her grandparents had went off in.
"There it is. My influence." Blaine said pointing after her.
"Kid, that's probably mine. Hate to break it to ya." Burt laughed.
"Meh." Blaine shrugged, going over to hug Bob and Sarah as well.
"Don't you dare make the joke again." Sarah threatened.
"I would but you already broke my shoulder." Bob rolled his eyes and squeezed Blaine's shoulder. "Are you going to get drunk and sing Billy Joel? I heard a rumor you sing Billy Joel when you're drunk."
Blaine leaned back and looked at David and Wes who were giving innocent smiles and waving. He then said cheerfully, "Not as long as you're here."
"You don't even have to get him drunk." Burt scoffed. "Just start to play it and it'll happen. Same with Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child, and Rod Stewart."
"Oooh. Yeah." David told Bob. "He's serenaded at least three people with Do Ya Think I'm Sexy… Two of the times he was drunk and probably doesn't remember."
"I will have you know, I remember all three… I just can't remember who the first two guys were." Blaine said.
"Who were the first two?" Kurt asked.
"Oh, we're not answering that question today, Kurtsie."
"Was it Thad?!" Kurt looked at Blaine.
"Yep. And the other person was some random guy outside of Walmart." Blaine nodded.
"Now that was hilarious." Wes said. "Mostly because that random guy was me."
"NO." Blaine shook his head.
"Yes. You got confused because I took my soccer hoodie off when you were puking." Wes smiled sweetly. "David has it on video."
"Okay. I'm not even mad but I need to see that video." Kurt looked at David.
"Yeah, I'll have to find it. You can't hear much other than song-wailing and Wes hysterically laughing, though." David said.
"I'm hungry so I'm not participating in this discussion anymore." Blaine said. "It's my wedding day. Be nice."
"Okay, hons. Go get the pictures done so we can have some fun that isn't at Blaine's expense." Carole said, clearly taking pity on him.
"I for one think every single person left out here should be ashamed." Blaine raised his arms. "I preach my heart out and—"
Wes forcibly turned him and nudged him towards the exit.
"You're rude, Wes."
Kurt shook his head and followed them out.
6:00 PM
"I am really nervous for this." Blaine whispered 45 minutes later when the wedding planner announced that the speeches were about to start.
"With how after the ceremony went, you should be." Kurt squeezed Blaine's thigh. He then teased, "Thad? Really?"
"I was so drunk. Something about buttons on his cardigan. You know I love cardigans."
They were both seated in front of the reception tables—specifically in front of the table where The Hummel's Colloway's, and Alex's family was at.
They'd had a quick but nice fifteen minutes to themselves to eat—and had spent the remaining fifteen minutes in the bathroom doing something they'd never admit out loud but planned to definitely recreate that night once they made it to their hotel.
Because even if they weren't leaving for Florida until tomorrow, Blaine had gotten them a suite at a new hotel that Kurt had been excited about. Kurt didn't know that yet, but that was okay.
"You do love your cardigans… and I love them on you, so it works for me." Kurt beamed when David and Wes stepped up.
Although there was only one microphone stand, one of them had managed to find a second mic while only made Blaine more nervous.
Wes pointed at Blaine and gave a silly grin as everyone quit talking.
"So, you should all know who were are if you're here—" David began.
"And if you don't, how dare you." Wes interrupted David, causing mostly laughter but also some confused expressions.
"But we are the reason the bubby Blaine Anderson-Hummel that you all know is here today." David continued. "Blaine literally played no part in getting here until maybe three days into the relationship and I'm not kidding. When we were seventeen, Kurt Hummel from a rival glee club—yes, I know. Like the show with a lot less sex and drama… okay, that's a lie— Sorry, Mom. Let me start over. When we were seventeen, on November 9th, Kurt showed up to 'spy' on our all boy school acapella glee club group. He met Blaine at the bottom of this beautiful winding staircase with this beautiful skylight window over it. Basically, a fairy tale, right? Only Blainers immediately falls head over heels in love with the spy and not only introduces himself but leads him right to our impromptu performance of Teenage Dream."
"Which," Wes interrupted. "He begged us to perform for two years so, honestly, the timing was kind of surreal since they ended up being each other's teenage dreams. Oh, how cute. See what I did there, Blainers?"
"Yes." David said, sounding impatient. "He did. And he's all big smile, I'm this Disney prince, let me walk to your car… and not get your number."
"All of the Warblers collectively groaned because they were either annoyed Blaine didn't get a number so he could date the guy… or because they were in love with him and didn't like the fact that he was in love with another guy." Wes said. "Lo and behold, our Kurtsie shows up about a week later… Blaine gets the number… returns to the dorm room and tells us that he no longer has romantic feelings because Kurt needed a friend."
"Literally five minutes later there's a bet pool working its way through the junior and senior classes along with freshman and sophomore Warblers. We're all arguing over songs when Blaine isn't around… and it only gets worse when Kurt ends up transferring to the school and joining the Warblers. We're having secret meetings without Kurt and Blaine. Half of us coming up with songs to bring them together and the other half wanting to do stuff that was as far away from love that a song could be in attempt to keep them apart… for a bet." David sighed. "Long story short, on March 15th they kissed but didn't make it official until March 23rd so Wes wouldn't win the bet… which was much appreciated, guys. I mean some other Warblers are probably thankful too but I'm the most important obviously."
There was laughter.
"Basically, Kurt, you're welcome from half of the group and the other half wants reimbursement since you're famous now." Wes joked. "In all seriousness, it was four grueling months trying to push these two together but for the most part they've been inseparable ever since."
"On a more serious note, Blaine, before Kurt was even in the picture, we learned from you that passion and hard work allows us to be active agents in our own lives. You put everything into all you do every day and you gotten so far. We all know it. I know that if you apply these things to your marriage, that you'll be an amazing husband just as you've been an amazing brother to both Wes and I."
Blaine's eyes teared up and he mouthed something to David who nodded in understanding.
"We sat together trying to figure out how we were going to write or say something that really captured both of you two, your love, and what your love means to us and to everyone around you all that loves you. You both know as well as most of us in here do that you two have been through a lot. Unsupportive family members, bullying, fearing for lives, ending up in hospitals, having to put life on hold because of the actions of bigots… but there's been more of the good than bad. Living together, graduating together three times, finding homes in each other not once but twice, getting married today… and in early November you'll be parents to two very lucky little boys." David said.
Kurt looked at Blaine and gave him a bright smile, squeezing his hand.
"In spite of and because of everything Kurt and Blaine have been through, we choose to believe in the love between Blaine and Kurt and the lesson that they and their love represents: that there is no obstacle, not distance, nor the pressures of academia or work, nor an unhealthy obsession with Katy Perry, that cannot be overcome by loving completely, openly, and honestly like you two have since the day you met—but most especially since March 23rd… which was really the 15th." Wes said.
"And to Kurt, the logos to Blaine's (sometimes overwhelming) pathos… we've always hoped that Blaine would find the right fit before you came along. And here we are, like fourteen years later, and we've got another brother. You're more understanding, compassionate, and caring than we ever could have asked for as someone to be Blaine's forever partner."
"So, if you would all raise a glass—not the song, Trent and Hunter— raise a glass to Kurt and Blaine. May their love and marriage remind us all to love as honestly and openly as they do." Wes finished, setting the extra mic down next to the DJ's set up as David put his in the stand.
They then went over to hug Kurt and Blaine. After doing so, they sat on the ground next to them to watch the next two speeches.
Kurt rolled his eyes, seeing Carole and Burt bickering over who would go first.
Honestly, it'd been a debate throughout most of the day and Carole understood why she would want to go first—because Burt was the ultimate Kurt and Blaine cheerleader.
After a few more seconds Carole seemingly won the battle and went up to the microphone, beaming.
"Sorry about that. I insisted I go before Burt because if you know him, you know how he feels about all three of our boys and nobody wants to follow that." Carole laughed. "Although it's going to be kind of hard to follow David and Wes as well. The great thing in all of this is everyone here just cares so much about both Kurt and Blaine which shows the type of people they are… and it also shows how good their friends are."
Kurt grabbed Blaine's hand and squeezed it hard, smile growing when Blaine scooted his chair even closer to Kurt's.
"Before anything, this has been such a special and amazing night. I want to thank the wedding party for standing up there today with Kurt and Blaine and for being there for them every day—David, Wes, and Adrian for Blaine and Finn and Alec for Kurt… You five are the people who are there for them not just today but every day in life. You're there through the ups and downs of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. You are all great men and we're all very grateful that you're in Kurt and Blaine's lives."
All five of them smiled and Kurt turned to see Matt squeeze Adrian's hand—Adrian had last minute decided he was still going to stand up there with them during the ceremony but had opted to read his speech to them in private since he wasn't quite up to that.
And, really, that had meant to world to Kurt and Blaine in itself.
"I also want to thank the three families that have played such a huge part Blaine's life. All three of your families have loved and supported him and that has helped shaped him into the lovely young man he is today. The Thompson's, the Chang's, and more recently the Colloway's. All three of your families have been family to him and we're very happy that he's got you all in his lives. I know last night we really enjoyed sharing stories and getting to see all of the support he has outside of our own family.
Kurt and Blaine, I want you two to look around the room. We've got, what, 73 people here? And they're all family and friends—because even if they're coworkers, if you invited them here they're friends because we know you wanted this to be intimate and personal. All these people here came to love and support you two and this decision. These 73 people—73— are your support system when you need help, when life goes wrong, or when you need someone to talk to. It's a pretty big support system and that's a lot of people who care about you enough to come to your wedding… which says a lot about both of your character." Carole smiled at them again.
"My son Finn was a junior and Kurt was a sophomore when Burt and I met. Kurt introduced us early in their sophomore year and in Kurt's junior year we got married. Ironically enough, Kurt and Blaine became friends right in the midst of wedding madness for us. Well, it felt like madness to us then but it was nothing like today. Finn and I loved Blaine from the start, but he and Burt had a, uhm, interesting first two interactions but it didn't take him long to catch up since he is so eagerly awaiting his speech."
Kurt squeezed Blaine's hand again, smiling when Blaine flashed him a bright smile.
"I've always known Blaine was it for Kurt. Always. Burt did too after Blaine bought those football tickets."
There was loud laughter—mostly from Kurt's friends.
"Blaine, I have to let you know you are the right guy for Kurt in so many ways and we're all so happy to legally and officially welcome you into the family. A few days ago, Burt asked me when I knew and I just said that I always knew… but he made me pinpoint a reason and I'm going to share it with everyone."
Blaine nodded.
"It was at Finn and Rachel's wedding. You and Kurt were, uhm… working through some things." She began. "I wanted to get away for a few minutes because weddings are a little stressful. I was sitting in the stairwell by myself. Not even a minute later you came and sat down with me and we shared a Dr. Pepper."
Kurt laughed and rolled his eyes.
"We talked for a while— at first just about the usual stuff. School and, at that point in time, your internship and how you liked working with your bosses. Maybe twenty minutes in and completely unprompted, you confided that Kurt was like no other person you'd ever met. You told me that he was so special to you and you promised me that you would always be gentle with his heart, love him unconditionally, and that you would try to make him happy every day. Any time I see you two together, Blaine, I can see in his eyes that you keep your promise. As hard as things were at that time for you two, that was the moment when I knew without a doubt that we'd be here today. You two make each other so happy. Anyone can look and see. Most of the time when you argue, it ends in laughter. There's no better person for either of you." Carole shook her head.
"And Kurt, you are such a beautiful person inside and out… today and every day. I know I haven't been around your whole life but I'm still so proud of the man that you've become in these last ten or eleven years that I've known you. You give so much of yourself and take such special care of those people around you. You support your friends and your family in whatever is important to them and you always take the time to be with everyone and to take care of them even though we all know you've got so little time to spare even for yourself. Of course, you know I love you like you're my own and I always have. Not only did you bring me and your father together, but you've played an important part in the whole family dynamic. You're always there with support no matter what is going on. You put family first just like your dad and it's such a good quality. I'm so proud of you for everything you've accomplished and I'm so happy that you get your happily ever after with Blaine because you deserve it more than most."
Kurt sniffled, his eyes tearing up.
"Burt and I are blessed to have awesome kids. We've got Finn and Rachel who have been married… Four years now? Then we've got Kurt and Blaine who should have gotten married six years ago… and then we've got Melody who Burt hopes will never get married."
There was laughter—and it was loudest from Burt's parents.
They then heard Melody say, not so quietly, "That's rude, Daddy."
"That's what I've got. I love you two both very dearly and I can't wait to see what's in store for you next. So congratulations and if anyone has drink left, raise a toast. You may also want to refill your glasses before Burt gets up here because he loves talking about his boys." Carole took a sip of her drink and, on her way down, went to hug Kurt and Blaine. She also gave Burt a look before going back to her seat.
"Guys, she's right. I've basically been taking down information for this speech since Kurt's senior year." Burt began. "First of all, I want to welcome everybody here today. This day has been years in the making but finally we are here. At Kurt and Blaine's wedding reception."
There was cheering and applause.
Kurt sent Blaine a knowing look, smiling when Blaine whispered something in his ear.
"As you all probably know, I'm Kurt's father. Although I've only known Blaine since these two were seventeen, I feel close enough to him to call him a son as well… Which is why I've made countless comments about adopting him if the two didn't decide to tie the knot. After years of thinking every call from the boys may have been the call—finally, it came. I am so happy to have witnessed this wedding because for a long time I didn't know if it would happen… Not unless we went to Canada."
Several people laughed.
"I'm also honored to be able to stand up here today giving this speech to and about you two. I have to admit when I first met Blaine… I never thought this day would happen. Blaine probably doesn't want me to tell this story, especially with his bosses here, but it's too good of an opportunity to pass up, so, sorry kid."
"Oh, God." Blaine shook his head.
Kurt grinned, not looking apologetic in the least.
"One morning I was coming downstairs trying to get Kurt to help me with breakfast and talking to him… and I go into his room and there's somebody lying in his bed. I thought it was him… until Blaine sits up, looks around, says 'Where am I?' and then falls back asleep."
Everyone laughed loudly, apart from Blaine who now had his head in Kurt's shoulder trying to hide.
"Do you remember that, kid?" Burt asked.
"Not exactly." Blaine responded, covering his face.
"Then a few days later he's goin' on a date with Rachel I guess? Needless to say I was even more confused. Luckily that didn't last too long, right, Finn?"
"I wasn't worried." Finn responded loud enough for everyone to hear, prompting more laughter.
"Kurt was so smitten with this boy. You'd say 'How is Blaine doing?' and he'd go on for hours about how a certain sweater looked with his eyes."
"The green one?" Blaine asked, nudging Kurt.
"Shut up, Blaine." Kurt laughed.
"When they started actually dating, Kurt thought he was going to play it off like they were still 'just friends' and to be frank, I don't think the two know what the words 'just friends' mean because there were at least three times I walked in on them making out on their 'break up' which I'm not entirely convinced wasn't an excuse for them to take a few—okay, several—months in which they didn't have to dress up to impress each other every day." Burt chuckled. "I was never worried."
"Not that Blaine worries about dressing up anymore outside of work." Kurt offered a sweet smile to Blaine, who elbowed him and said, "I always look fabulous."
Burt continued. "Evidently, though, they got it together and we're here now. Blaine, there is no one else I'd rather see Kurt marrying today. Because when I look at you and my son I see true love. True love is… It's real hard to find and I've been lucky enough to find it twice. But, Kurt, you don't gotta look anywhere else because you've got it. The kid left school for a semester to take care of you. You'd run to Boston-."
"Cambridge." Blaine laughed.
Burt quickly corrected himself. "Cambridge at the drop of a hat if Blaine was sick, sad, stressed. Hospital stays together. I don't know how many cars Blaine's gone through since they started dating. Anyone hear he did not get in a wreck on the way here? Probably because he broke his wrist and couldn't drive himself."
Both Wes and David let out loud laughs and Kurt saw Adrian trying very hard to not laugh.
Blaine covered his face again. "Three cars? Maybe four?"
"You lost count?" Matt asked loud enough for everyone to hear, making more people laugh.
"The point is, you two take care of each other. You always have. I know you'll continue to do that. I may not be real good at make speeches but I'm supposed to give you two some advice. I don't know how much you'll listen because you're both so stubborn and because you might not really need it. But here goes. One you know well—communication. To make marriage work you gotta talk to each other and listen to each other."
Kurt gave Blaine a pointed look, ducking when Blaine playfully hit him.
"Spend time together. I know you'll be busy with jobs and soon raising those boys soon but spending time together alone is important." Burt smiled. "Respect and trust each other. That's one that you two don't need to be told but it's real important in marriage. I've never seen a couple that respects and trusts each other more than you two—especially at your age."
Blaine laced fingers with Kurt, kissing him quickly.
"And lastly, something my parents told me right before I married your mother, Kurt. Think of the three happiest moments in your relationship. Remember those moments every day. Especially when you two are fighting, when you're sad, when you are together. Because it helps reinforce the love you've already got."
Kurt smiled at his father, nodding.
"Being here today and celebrating this joyous event with friends and family has been amazing. Seeing you two married will forever be one of the happiest moments of my life. It was a very touching ceremony, fittingly because you two have a very touching relationship. I am so happy, Kurt, that you have found someone like Blaine. And Blaine, you've always been a part of this family. You know that, kid, but now it's official and I couldn't think of a better person to hand my son off to."
Blaine felt tears fill his eyes.
"Thank you everyone for being here and listening to my boring speech. I'd like to raise a toast to my sons Kurt and Blaine Anderson-Hummel. To a very long, true, and prosperous marriage."
Everyone raised their glasses and then took a drink.
"I made people cry." Burt grinned, coming over. "Does that mean the speech was good, kid?"
Kurt rolled his eyes and hugged Burt, sniffling. "I love you, Dad."
"I love you too, kiddo." Burt said before hugging Blaine. "Welcome to the family, Blaine. Don't cry."
Blaine laughed tearfully, hugging Burt back. "I thought you said I've always been in the family."
"Well now it's official." Burt's grin grew.
…
"Wait, what?" Kurt asked later that night.
"I said that our bags are already taken somewhere for us but we're heading to the Cheesecake Factory." Blaine grinned. "Only I'm hoping we can run to Taco Bell first."
"What?!" Kurt, who was more than just a little tipsy, laughed.
"Okay, let's be real." Blaine, who was tipsy himself. "That food was boring and the cake was great but besides ourselves we've got two other loves."
"What?" Kurt repeated for a third time.
"I love Taco Bell and you love cheesecake." Blaine said. "So we're going to go to Taco Bell 'cause I need some shitty Mexican food, then we're going to go and get some cheesecake because I'm the best husband ever, and then we're going to have sex until we fall asleep in that new fancy hotel you've wanted to see so badly."
Kurt's jaw dropped.
"Great plan but are you two sure you don't need a ride?" Matt called, exiting the Brooklyn Winery—literally carrying a sleeping Adrian in his arms.
"How strong are you?" Kurt tilted his head.
"He's actually pretty light if he isn't squirming." Matt shrugged. "I can be your DD."
"No, we're just walking to Taco Bell." Blaine chirped. "Thanks, though."
"Last chance." Matt laughed.
"I need a taco from the bell." Blaine repeated.
"I don't know who is tipsier." Kurt called to Matt.
"You, Kurt. You are tipsier." Matt responded. "Have fun in Florida!"
Kurt waved energetically and then beamed at Blaine. "Taco Bell? I think I need food in my stomach if I want to enjoy the cheesecake."
"Yes!" Blaine nodded, turning in the direction where Taco Bell was. "It's not too far down."
"Tonight was perfect." Kurt said, pulling a water bottle out of his messenger bag and taking a big sip. "Water?"
"Sobering juice." Blaine gratefully took some. "Y'know, it'll be quicker if we get our Taco Bell to go, eat it on the way to cheesecake, and then that means married sex sooner."
Kurt slid his arm around Blaine's thin waist. "That law degree is doing you really good."
Blaine giggled a bit, leaning against Kurt.
"Is your arm okay?"
"Yeah… That could be the alcohol, though." Blaine shrugged. "I know I said Rachel's party back when we made out was the best day ever… and I was wrong anyway… but this was the best day ever."
"I know!" Kurt nodded. "It was perfect. Everything was so beautiful and everyone was so nice."
"I have a feeling the wedding photographer and your PR guy—"
"Jason."
"Yeah. Think they're gonna totally hook up tonight." Blaine nodded.
"Oh, yeah. Walk the grounds with her my ass." Kurt scoffed. "They'd be cute, though. I like him."
"What does he do?"
"I don't know. Makes sure people aren't posting lies, runs my social media, and acts as a bodyguard when I'm at events pretty much." Kurt yawned. "He's a lot better than Marc's. She's supposed to retire soon, though, so he's just sucking it up. At least that's what Charly said."
"What was your favorite part of today?" Blaine asked, coming to a halt and stepping out of the way of a group walking behind them.
All of it." Kurt said. "Waking up and having a pretty normal morning, getting ready, the first look, spending time with all of our families and friends together, hearing how your old pastor tied in those two stories together and our vows and… all of it. This whole day has mostly felt this weird feeling of calm and exciting. Calm because we're finally here… all of our work and we made it. Exciting because we just had the wedding of our dreams and there were a few hiccups but now we're husbands. It just… it feels like no matter what happens, we'll be okay, you know? Because we've got each other and honestly, all of this could go away tomorrow and as long as I had you, I couldn't be happier."
Blaine smiled and nodded, leaning over to kiss him.
"What was your favorite part?" Kurt asked as they stepped into the Taco Bell.
Blaine prattled off his order and made a surprised face when Kurt ordered food and a drink as well—yeah, Kurt had said he was hungry. But he'd never actually seen Kurt eat Taco Bell before.
"Well?" Kurt asked, sitting at one of the tables and looking at him expectantly.
"I'm not just copying you but all of it. You know, I loved spending so much time with you and focusing on our love. Bob helped me get dressed and then the family pictures… I just feel like everything outside of work brings us closer together and it just felt right. Our vows was my second favorite, my third favorite was the first luck… and I think my first favorite was when everyone left to go to their cars and we had our first dance. It just… I wouldn't have wanted to do it in front of everyone else but it just meant so much."
Kurt leaned over and kissed his cheek before going to grab their bag of food and their drinks.
Blaine held the door open for Kurt as they exited.
Kurt led them over to a small bench. He then set their drinks between them and handed Blaine his burrito.
"Just so you now, no matter how madly in love with you I am, I will probably never do this for you again." Kurt said before taking a bite out of his own burrito. He then said, covering his mouth, "And I will never admit to doing this either."
Blaine laughed and took a bite of his own burrito, his eyes on Kurt.
Kurt swallowed his food and smiled at Blaine. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"Everything. I don't know." Kurt said, tossing what was left of his burrito in a nearby trashcan. He then said, "I tried. I couldn't do more than the two bites."
"I appreciate it!" Blaine laughed. "It's probably because you sound sober."
"Probably." Kurt laughed and then bit his lip.
"Thank you for what?" Blaine repeated after finishing his burger.
"For being there for me and understanding when nobody else even cared to try." Kurt took a deep breath. "I honestly think that was a life changing moment for me and not just because of meeting you. Just because someone cared. You didn't know me and you cared and that… was everything to me."
"I know." Blaine nodded, making eye contact. "Because when I was in the hospital, David and Wes did that for me. That's why I…. you know."
"I don't think I'd be here today without you. Not the way I am now." Kurt said. "I don't even want to think about what my life would be like if I hadn't met you and I'm glad I don't have to."
"Thank you." Blaine said. "You gave me a family. You supported me going to school and you've always been there for me… even times when you probably shouldn't have been. I'm so glad we got past that thing in my first year of law school."
Kurt reached over, lacing their fingers together. "I have an idea."
"Okay?" Blaine asked.
"We skip Cheesecake Factory and get it tomorrow before the flight… tonight we go to the hotel, take a bath or get in a hot tub, and watch When Harry Met Sally." Kurt smiled.
"I like that idea so much better than mine." Blaine hopped up. "Happy wedding day, Kurt."
"Happy wedding day, Blaine."
