Chapter 33: A Victim & the Culprit

(The last Dark moon event – Interview)

The host: I'd like to ask why your mother came out and said "I don't have any children"?

Kyoko looked down for a little before looking up and answering: well, … there are two reasons to consider when it comes to that

The host: two reasons?

Kyoko: yes … the first being, … she came across someone who looked like that person, …due to her fear and stress about them being the same person and that he might have returned, … she wanted to send them a message that she wasn't tied to him by any means … she wanted to protect herself and me from his possible return

The host: and she was right, was it him?!

Kyoko: yes, it was

The host: I see, that's understandable … but why was she fearful of his return?!

Kyoko: I guess she just didn't want to deal with him or why he'd returned after so long, … and she had every right to, as this is the result of his return … a whole week and a half of chaos and lies!

The host: so, you're not saying he was abusive that she was afraid he would hurt you two?

Kyoko: No … as far as I know, there was no abuse in such a way

The host: then what is the other reason?

Kyoko: her status … she as a single mother, she didn't want the whole country knowing about her private life … as far as I've heard many single mothers deny being one because they fear that would affect how they are perceived … our society doesn't view single mothers in a good light, especially non-married women, so I think it's understandable that she wanted to keep that from others

The host: that's true, that was a possible explanation on the other show … so did you know she was going to say that?

Kyoko: no … I didn't, and when I watched it I was very upset because I didn't really understand why she did that, but after that, we talked, and everything made sense … being a single mother is sure harder than I imagined myself … I did see how my mother struggled when I was younger, however, my understanding of that was limited … but as I grew older I became more aware of how things work and now I understand how much struggle single mothers go through to get by

The host: it's great that you two talked … how do you define your relationship, now?

Kyoko: we're close, we understand each other and support one another … we came a long way because we really didn't know how to communicate with each other due to the wall the distance built between us … I know the back story to what happened, and so it helped me understand her and her actions back then

The host: do you wish things were different growing up?

Kyoko: hmm, not really, … I think that the life I lived up to today, has made me become the person I am today … I like myself, so If anything needs to change, it will be to change for the better … to improve one's self and work hard to be who I want to be

The host was pleasantly impressed, yet she asked: don't you think that if things were different your life would have been better?

Kyoko: I don't like to dwell on things that won't change … I've accepted that this is the life I will have to live, and frankly, I'm thankful … perhaps if my mother wasn't strict with me, I wouldn't be doing my best today … I think her strictness came from a place of concern because she didn't want me to settle for anything, she worked really hard to reach where she is today, and that makes me want to do the same!

The host: So, you don't mind feeling pressured to get perfect grades? … you don't mind her strict nature?!

Kyoko: She's a lawyer, … and I think that comes naturally, … she has to present a strong front, and shouldn't allow emotions to take over … I also think that the things she has gone through since she had me, shaped some of her emotions in one way or another … I truly believe that she doesn't want me falling in the same mistakes she made along the way … I understand that! … I know that mistakes are made, and we need to learn from them, and make sure we don't do them again and also make sure that others don't either

The host: so, you believe that you won't make the same mistakes, now?

Kyoko: I surely know how to avoid those mistakes … I can't say that I didn't make similar mistakes, but, I learned from my experience and I think that helped me relate to her a little better!

The host: That's admirable … you seem very mature, even for your age … do you think you grew faster than your peers?

Kyoko: I'm not sure, I guess people mature at different rates, depending on the events they go through … I think that it took time for me to become who I am today … and I certainly think that I can be immature sometimes … I still have more growing to do, so I will do my best!

The host and audience were equally impressed by her and her admissions… she was completely honest and didn't try to paint a false picture about herself at all

The host: I see … that's amazing, you're still growing and learning indeed! … I wish you all the best through that … now, I just wonder, how did you view other people growing up, like your childhood friend and his relationship with his mother versus yours

Kyoko: It was different … my childhood friend had both parents and was treated differently, … let's just say his parents weren't as strict with him, he felt like he was able to express himself more, and he could ask for things he wanted, like his musical instrument or video games

The host: what about you?

Kyoko: well, due to my mother being busy, I didn't see her often, and so I didn't express myself as freely as he did … I certainly held myself back from asking for things … as I grew older I got pocket money, I'm sure I didn't spend it wisely in the beginning, but I quickly learned the value of money and was careful to how I would spend it

The host: so, how often did you spend on yourself, to get things you desired?

Kyoko: I often put things I need first, over things I wanted … I grew to learn that magic isn't real and that you need money to look pretty, but I never really spent money to buy makeup … at some point, I use to spend my money to make people happy, instead of myself … but when I earned my paycheck from acting I slowly started getting things that I wanted

The host: I have to disagree with you that money is needed to look pretty! … you should know you are pretty in your own way, and make-up is just an enhancement!

Kyoko nodded sheepishly

The host: when you say you spent money to make others happy, what do you mean?! … did you buy things for your mother, instead of yourself?

Kyoko: no … I mostly spent my money on my friend, like buying their favorite food/dessert, … and when he debuted, I spent money on buying his CD's to support his career

The host: wow! … you're such a supportive friend, … but what about yourself?

Kyoko: I don't remember voicing my wants, … and I didn't want to burden anyone with that, … things changed over time, … people learned about the things I liked, and so I got some things eventually … I still prefer to save money over spending it on things I don't really need, … I guess I've become a little hard-headed when it comes to that

The host: That makes sense, when you live on one income, it's really hard to spend money freely, because you know the value of money, and how hard it is to earn it!

Kyoko: Yes, indeed …

The host: I see … it's indeed difficult to have one income to support yourself and child, and I personally heard that single mothers are considered a risk because they can't fully commit to a job … but how else is she supposed to provide for her child if she's a single mother? Right?!

Kyoko nodded and said: as we discussed, culturally mothers are expected to stay home and raise the children, while the father worked, but in cases of single mothers, they would have to provide the income and care for the child themselves

The host: Now the whole picture is clear, indeed … your mother put you in the care of trusted people in order to work, so she can provide for the both of you … and your father was out of the picture for all these years, just returning to find about you, … and now they are trying to take you by force, I assume?

Kyoko: I guess they are trying to hurt my mother's career, to force her to submit to their request

The host: hurt is too little in her case, … the accusation today may destroy it completely!

Kyoko: well, … that might be their aim, … I'm not going to point fingers and call people out … because they know who they are

The host: but won't it be helpful to reveal who they are, … as to warn people from talking to them or believing them

Kyoko: I can see how that might work, but at the same time, some people are directly impacted by that, and I would rather protect them than let all of them face scrutiny

The host: as in by their name?

Kyoko: yes … I think that this might affect even more people who may carry the same name, so I would rather keep it private … I wouldn't want to be the reason why some might become hateful towards them

The host: I see … I understand … I just hope that things end here or sometime soon

Kyoko: I hope so too

They touched on Kyoko's career, her friendship, and her agency's name, and Kyoko made it clear that she never tried to use her friend for help, and that she auditioned for her jobs … she also said if she was offered jobs, it's because of good words and her performance, and never because of her agency's name

The host: alright, thank you so much for answering my questions … I know that some people might have more, and I understand some information is private, so we can safely say we can stop here!

Kyoko: Thank you so much

By this point, the show ended, by thanking the guests and wishing viewers a good rest of their night

The "Dark Moon" stars went backstage, and exchanged goodbyes … as they all had other plans later … some for dinner, others were to meet friends

(Backstage)

Kyoko and Ren walked towards their dressing rooms after wishing everyone goodbye… However, Momose did end up joining them, to make sure everything was ok with Kyoko

They all entered Ren's dressing room, finding Yashiro sitting down while petting a little Kitten

Kyoko cried happily: Remi!

Ren closed the door to make sure Remi doesn't run out of the room and followed Kyoko to pet Remi

Momose: oh! … it that Remi?! … the kitten you adopted recently?

Kyoko cheerfully answers: Yes! … isn't she adorable?!

Momose came by and pet the fluffy little furball then agreed: She is!

Kyoko: Thank you Yashiro-san!

Yashiro: no problem … she was great! … she finished her food and got into the carrier without any trouble

Momose was now holding Remi, she wondered while petting her: Did you miss her so much, that you asked Yashiro to get her?

Kyoko: No … Tsuraga-san offered to take her in because I won't be home for a day or two … and I can't just leave her

Yashiro: I also have access to his place, so I can feed her if Ren is too busy … my apartment won't allow pets sadly, so I can't help even if I wanted too

Momose: oh, I see … (she smiles and looked at Ren with amusement)

Ren smiled without commenting … however, he did pick up Remi when she jumped off and approached him

Kyoko commented: She really likes you! … (Ren nodded to her, and they both sat down petting and giving love to Remi

Yashiro smiled and looked at Momose without commenting

Ren let Remi sleep in his lap, while he pets her …. She purred happily

Momose suddenly realized something and asked: are you going somewhere?

Kyoko shook her head and said: no, but I plan to stay with my mom until she is discharged from the hospital

Momose nodded, then asked: how long is she going to be hospitalized … is it that bad?

Kyoko: nothing serious thankfully, but they want to keep her for a day or two for observation

Momose: thank goodness … do you think she was affected by the news today?!

Kyoko: I think it's more than just that … it surely wasn't good timing for her car to finally get fixed today, and now it's gone for good!

Momose: I really hope everything settles down … those people need to stop!

Kyoko: I've heard that they will, for now at least, Boost isn't going to publish anything anymore, as far as I've heard

Momose: well deserved! … spreading lies to hurt you and your mother is terrible and that should bite them back for their terrible actions!

Yashiro: yeah! … I hope they get a dose of their own medicine!

The four sat and talked a little before Momose left and wished them well, especially Kyoko … she also told her to take time off if she needed to do so

The trio went to the pet store to get the litter and litter box, some toys, then they headed to Ren's apartment, where Kyoko helped Ren set things up, before bidding him goodbye and leaving with Yashiro back to the hospital

(In the Grad-Jewel Hotel)

Nanami watched the Interview and felt like all her hard work went to waste … Kyoko's career seemed fine, and Saena career wasn't destroyed either

She recalled the news that came out from many judges and thought (I never considered their side to be that loyal?!)

She cursed under her breath trying to find anything else to talk about and wished that the private investigator has gotten back to her with something new

She walked back and forth in her room thinking about a different plan, refusing to be silenced by any lawsuits against her

She thought of a plan to accuse Saena of being raped … but that will only make her son look bad, and being raped would only paint her a victim … she was beginning to get frustrated with how things aren't going her way despite all her efforts

She then decided to accuse Saena of sleeping with her boss Katagiri-san and her co-worker Todoh-san, as they are always on her side no matter what, … trying to turn Saena into someone who pays people with her body

She dialed the usual number and asked to speak to the editor who helped her … once she was on the phone with him, she talked to him about her plans, but to her surprise, he refused and told her that Boost magazine is done with her and all her lies … they can't afford to go against them anymore and that if they went bankrupt, they will pursue her for damaged

Annoyed, Nanami got really upset and said: this wasn't the deal! … I can't get the results I want if you don't help me!

The guy scoffed and said: I helped more than enough, and this put our business on the line of danger, so No! … it's over!

Nanami started screaming and protesting, but the guy just hung up the phone and blocked her number … making all her attempts to reach him again, fail, which aggravated her so much so, that she threw her phone in rage

She felt helpless at this moment and didn't know what to do, her plans were falling apart, and she didn't know what she can do next if she wasn't able to publish more damming news about the Mogami's.

She picked up her phone, which now had a crack across the screen, and she called the PI, but he didn't answer, and her call went straight to his voice message system … she left one, but yet again felt at a loss that she wasn't getting anywhere

(In the hospital)

Once the show ended, Saena gave Todoh his laptop back and thanked him … he then put it away and sat around in silence

The awkward silence was messing with Saena's head … she didn't know what to do about him and hoped that their relationship as co-workers and friends won't be ruined forever

Todoh picked up his coffee that has been ignored for hours at this point and drank it without any complaints despite being ice cold

Saena was confused by his actions because as long as she knew him, he would complain about how cold coffee would get if left behind for only 10 minutes … finding his behavior odd, she determined that maybe he was having a hard time with his own feelings that drinking cold coffee wasn't the least of his worries

Todoh was in his own head rethinking his actions at that point, he wasn't really tasting the coffee, but he was drinking it to get his mind off of the train wreck that it has become

He started regretting telling her about his feelings, thinking it made things awkward between them and wondered if he can act as if he didn't say anything, … or just like normal … he wondered if he did so, what will Saena think, and if she would consider him unaffected by his own feeling or words

Saena wanted to end that silence once and for all, but before she could, Kyoko came in and greeted them

Todoh got up, looked at her, and smiled warmly, welcoming her back, and telling her that she'd done a great job on the interview

Saena also told her that she appreciated her honesty … she apologized once more for actions, but Kyoko told her that was all in the past, and that they have both moved on since then

Kyoko bought back a sense of normalcy between the two, the awkwardness subsided, and they talked like they normally did any other day

Around an hour later, Kyoko fell asleep near her mother … the nurse came in and asked Todoh if he could carry Kyoko to the empty bed behind him, which he gladly did … the nurse came back with two blankets … she covered Kyoko with one, and handed the other to Todoh … then walked out, wanting to leave the small family rest, … assuming that Todoh was Saena's husband/partner

Todoh sat down on the chair, facing the window, and said: Don't worry I won't stare … but if you want me to go, then I would

Saena looked away and said: would you sleep in your car again?

Todoh looked at her and chuckled, saying: maybe?!

Saena: do whatever you want … (she closed her eyes and tried to go to sleep)

After a few hours, Saena woke up because of the pain coming from her fractured arm, the medicine effect has worn off, and it was becoming uncomfortable and even painful to move

Todoh wasn't really sleeping, so he got up and asked: are you ok?

Saena: you're not asleep?!

Todoh: late-night coffee does have some effect… but, less about me and more about you?! … are you in pain?!

Saena looked away and said: it's just my arm …

Todoh: alright, I will go call someone … he walked out and closed the door behind him

Saena was once again at loss with his actions … he could've just clicked the button as he did earlier in the day … she then thought (is he tired enough that he's not thinking straight?!)

Todoh didn't return, but the nurse came in, and was followed by the doctor … they told her that they would do an X-ray in the morning, gave her some pain medications, and left

Todoh finally came back, with another coffee cup in hand

Saena: are you drinking that?! … you won't be able to sleep!

Todoh: it's water … they had no other cups

Saena: oh ….

Todoh: you should rest! … (he sat back down and drank his water calmly)

Saena stared at him for a short while, before drifting back asleep due to the medications taking effect

Todoh finished his water and was finally able to get a little bit of sleep before the sun came back up … announcing a new day full of new challenges

(The next day - Ren's apartment)

Ren woke up early in the morning, … he took a shower, then walked out of his bedroom to find Remi laying in front of the door … he got down to her level and pet her, then asked: are you hungry?!

As Remi got up, he was able to walk to the kitchen and take out the can of food … he opened it up, and put half of it, as instructed by Kyoko, in Remi's food bowl

He watched as Remi ate her food with enthusiasm and thought (I wish I could be that happy about food … Only Kyoko's food makes me that excited to eat)

He took out some cream cheese, opened a bag and took a few slices of bread, toasted them, and spread the cheese on top before eating them with some coffee on the side … Remi was a nice companion … she was a joy to be around, … but he thought (it would be nice if Kyoko could be here too)

He quickly shook his head trying to avoid thinking about things like that, as to not get disappointed that isn't happening right now … and thought (I need to give her time and space to heal and come whenever she's ready)

As he finished, he washed his plate and coffee mug, … then went to get changed

He got a text the Yashiro had arrived, so he pets Remi before leaving … but not before turning a cat toy on, to entertain Remi while he was away

(In the hospital)

Saena had woken up around 8 am, with pain in her arm returning after the medication affect worn off … she had breakfast with Kyoko who also woke up and was given a small breakfast meal … Todoh remained asleep in a sitting position

Kyoko did close the curtains as the sun was shining in his face … he looked exhausted and wasn't even bothered by the sun-rays

After they finished breakfast, Saena was taken away for an X-ray, … leaving Kyoko and Todoh behind

After nearly 15 minutes, Todoh woke up, he scratched his head and looked a little confused

Kyoko: Good morning

Todoh: oh … Good morning … (he looked around) then asked: where is she?

Kyoko: she was taken to do an X-ray, … her hand has been aching, perhaps the fracture is worse than they first expected?

Todoh: I see …

Kyoko: do you want me to call them to get you breakfast?

Todoh: no, … I'm fine … I will be back …. (he got up and left, leaving Kyoko alone)

Saena finally came back, walking back to her room instead of being wheeled in by a wheelchair

Kyoko: welcome back, did they say anything?

Saena: not yet, … the orthopedist needs to see them first, … where is Todoh, did he leave?

Kyoko: oh, … he said he would come back!

Saena: how about breakfast?

Kyoko: he declined

Saena: I see … (she went to her bad, struggling to get on without using her left arm)

Kyoko helped her mother get settled in bed, then asked: are you ok?

Saena: more or less … my arm is still bothering me, … perhaps it's actually broken

Kyoko: don't worry, I will help you as much as I can!

Saena: don't worry about me, … what about you?! … don't you have work?

Kyoko: Not yet, … I have to be on set at 5 pm today

Saena: I see

Todoh finally came back, he had a coffee cup in hand, he nodded and said: Good morning Mogami

Saena: good morning …. (she looked at his cup for a second then looked down)

Todoh: this time it's coffee

Saena: I didn't ask

Todoh: just clarifying … maybe, you want some?

Saena: I don't know if I'm allowed to drink caffeinated drinks with the medications they have given me

Todoh put his cup down and said: It's sure good to be careful

An hour later the doctor came and told Saena that her arm was indeed broken, and they needed to put it into a cast for a few weeks

Shortly after a doctor came in and put on a cast on her arm … the doctor asked her what color she wanted, but she just chose white, because she didn't want to be too flashy at work.

She was told not to get it wet, and to cover it in showers or baths … and that she can come in a month to check how the recovery is going, and if went well she would take the cast off and put a brace for a little while … she was also given some pain medication that she can take for 1-2 weeks depending on the pain.

Saena thanked the doctor … she was happy she didn't need surgery because that would take longer to recover from, and she was sure everyone would force her to rest for a while longer

(In Ren's Dressing Room)

Ren got a call from an unknown person, but he answered thinking it might be work-related … but it wasn't

However, he was thankful for the person on the other line and agreed to meet them as soon as they finished their morning photoshoot

He told Yashiro his plans, and Yashiro agreed, informing him that his schedule for the day was very lenient … giving him a long lunch break

So, once he finished the commercial shoot, they went to meet the caller, who was none other than Taisho, who called them asking them if they can help bring food for Kyoko and her mother

Taisho apparently got Ren's number from the president himself, who happen to take the call as he was strolling around in the department office

Ren and Yashiro picked up food for themselves, Kyoko, Saena, and even Todoh, just in case he was still there

(In the hospital)

Ren and Yashiro knocked on the door and entered when given permission

Ren and Yashiro gave Saena some flowers, wishing her a speedy recovery … then handed everyone food and sat down to eat lunch

Kyoko was very happy to see Ren, and thanked him once again for taking care of Remi while she was away … Saena also thanked them for their help

Everyone ate their food happily while chatting … however, Todoh was quiet most of the time

Ren surprisingly finished his food along with everyone, however, Todoh was nowhere near half done with his food … he was somehow off

Kyoko recognized how odd he seemed and wondered if he was that affected by the accident … (did he blame himself, despite knowing he couldn't have done anything to prevent it)

** phone ringing**

Todoh put down his chopsticks and answered the call with a casual tone

He remained silent, while the other person spoke with a whispery tone, as the call ended, Todoh just said: thank you … (and hung up … his jaw tightened as anger seeped in … he gripped his phone before placing it down, then put his food to the side)

He stood up at once and marched outside, with a dark demeanor that baffled everyone in the room

Yashiro freaked out remembering that he didn't check the media, and opened his phone, just to find a public apology posted by Boost Magazine, trying to make up for their actions and possibly lessen the financial burden against them

He looked a little confused seeing that, … and scrolled to see other news coming, but didn't find anything concerning … so he looked at Ren shaking his head

Kyoko: is there anything new?

Yashiro: nope … however, Boost magazine came forward with an apology for everything they posted so far, claiming that they didn't know if the information was false or not, and regretted not investigating the news before releasing it

Kyoko: is that a good thing?

Ren: it sure is, … personally, I think that apology is sloppy, but it's better than nothing … it's rare for a magazine to come out and apologize for spreading false news

Saena: I don't plan on dropping the lawsuit because of such a lame apology!

Yashiro: There is an uproar online because your fans are upset that some of the "Dark Moon" audience booed you … there is a lot of supportive messages for you because people agree that your Mio is amazing and had a huge impact on the show! … that's great Kyoko-chan!

Kyoko: I'm actually surprised that people are fans of my bully characters!

Ren: what do you mean?! … you deserve all the love and respect for your hard work! … It's so much harder to portray a villain … there is so much more to the character than just being evil! … you did amazing as Mio and people recognize that! … don't underestimate your talent and work! … you have fans, and they will increase so you go further, I promise!

Yashiro nodded, then scrolled down a little further, saying: Also, many women have come forward with their stories about how hard it is being a single mother … they are pouring lots of love and support for you two because they understand how hard it is to be in your position!

Ren: I think that many people who watched yesterday's interview may have been in similar events in their lives, or felt sympathetic … so they decided to share their own storied to support yours

Yashiro: Most are anonymous … but you can feel all the emotions they put in their posts! … Here is one ... (He read): I'm a single mother, and I had to leave my daughter with a family friend, so I could work … my previous workplace fired me when they learned I was a single mother, although I did all my work on time … One co-worker seemed interested in me and asked me out, but when I declined, saying I'm busy, they followed me to my daughters' school, the next week I was asked to report the office and was fired … that's how lame some people can be! … if only some can mind their business, I could freely be a good mother to my child!

He scrolled and said: here's another one … (he read): I have a son, with my ex-boyfriend, who left me when he learned I was "with child" … He ghosted me and cut me off completely, leaving Osaka entirely! … I thought he loved me, but it's all a game to him, he never met his own son, … now that I'm in a new relationship, my son considers my fiancé his father … he's a much better father than my ex would ever be! … some men don't deserve to have such great children! … I actually feel bad that my son is related to that pig!

He scrolled further and looked a little sad looking at the next post

Ren: what's wrong?!

Yashiro: Her story is terrible! … I feel really bad!

(He Read): I'm was a single mother, not by choice! … I have been raped by a coworker, who always sexually harassed me … I complained, but nothing was done … we had a company dinner one day, and I was drugged and humiliated … I learned I was pregnant after he transferred to another office, and I wasn't able to get in contact with him going forward … I tried to have an abortion, but I couldn't go through with it … not only did my family reject me and my son, but they kicked me out of the house, … so I had to give my child away for adoption because I couldn't afford to give them a good life, and now my child is in a completely different country, with no connection to me! … I wanted to be in my child's life, but the adoption center deceived me and gave my child to a foreign family! … I'm still looking for ways to reach my son, but I don't know if the law can help me … thank you for being honest about how hard life is for single mothers, … we deserve better! And, we deserve justice against the people who violated and deceived us!

He read the next post: I hate my child, I never wanted to have one, to begin with! … why do some women have to give up their careers for a child who will just grow and move out eventually?! … My pregnancy was a nightmare, and I almost died having this child, who won't even stop crying … I'm sick and tired, this is not the life I imagined for myself … I'm considering divorcing my spouse and leaving him the child, because I know I won't be happy living this way, I know it's selfish, but I deserve to have a life too!

Even Saena had to admit that the woman was being selfish, … but preferred not to judge her too much because she didn't think she was any better

Yashiro read more: single mother here because some men don't take responsibility for their actions … I didn't know I would get pregnant because I wasn't educated on those matters … My mother was very disappointed with me because she didn't want me to end up like her, sad and alone … my ex-boyfriend accused me of cheating, and left me for another woman… and now I have a little girl … I don't hate her, but I can't bring myself to love her either … I had to give up on my education, and now I work minimum wage just to support us 3 … my life feels like hell because I didn't imagine I would end up in this position … if single mothers don't get chances to improve their lives, we will remain under the poverty line forever, and that's not a life to live!

He read one more: I'm a single mother, who has a teenager now … he's very unhappy with me for not giving him a good life … I worked 2 jobs just to provide for us, but it's never enough! … he resent me for not having a dad, although his father left on his own accord … I feel so tired and I can't handle it anymore, after everything I've done, my son tells me I don't do enough … I wish I had an understanding child like her, … sure, I was very strict with him when it comes to his education, and money spending, but it was all for his own good, … I don't him to become like his father, and I don't want him to end up like me … but he doesn't care and he spends more money than we have … I wish the government could hold those men accountable to their children, … I think the American law is better because Men are forced to pay child support, why can't we adopt some of those rules over taking useless holidays that's we don't even celebrate?!

Yashiro: There are tons of stories, thanking you two for helping bring awareness to the struggles of single mothers … there are also campaigns to make changes in how society views single mothers! … this is great!

Annoyed, Kyoko commented: there are so many terrible men out there!

Ren shook his head and said: that's truly terrible, … who raised such monsters?!

Yashiro: Monster raise monsters! … there is no way someone with a good heart would raise someone to be such a terrible jerk!

Ren: no … sometimes a mother can be loving and their child still turns out to be a monster … it all depends on the environment they are in, and possibly the people around them

Kyoko was hoping Ren wasn't talking about himself as Kuon … to her Kuon is an amazing guy who suffered way too much, and hoped that he would lead a happy life going forward!

Saena looked down and said: and sometimes a bad parent would have a good child despite everything they've done terribly to their child

Kyoko: you're not referring to yourself, right?! … because I know you left me behind for my own benefit! … I said it before and I'll say it again! … I'm thankful for everything you've done for me, even leaving me back in Kyoto!

At this moment, Todoh came back … still looking tense and upset … he closed the door behind him and walked back to his seat … but didn't sit down … he looked down rethinking his next move, then looked at Saena and asked: Do you trust me?!

Saena was taken aback by his sudden question, and felt a little confused as to what he was trying to say … or what he was referring to? … did he mean as a lawyer or as a man? … she opened her mouth by he spoke first

Todoh clarified: as a lawyer!

Saena responded right away saying: absolutely!

Todoh turned to Kyoko and asked her the same thing

Kyoko: yes! … I do!

Todoh: alright, … then leave it all to me!

Saena: leave what exactly?!

Todoh looked at his watch then asked Yashiro to come with him for a short while … leaving Saena with no answer … he returned a few moments later without Yashiro and sat down, then resumed eating quietly

Saena looked at him, but he didn't pay attention to her … he avoided looking at anyone, in fact, looking down at his food while eating like it was his last meal

A few moments go by in silence … Todoh finished his food and wiped his hands with a wet towel … he then looked at the time again, and took a deep breath … he opened his phone a sent a text … Kyoko looked at her phone, then looked at Todoh and nodded

Suddenly, the door slammed open, with Detective Okabe entered the room with 3 of his subordinates … he asked: Is Mogami Kyoko here?!

Saena looked at Okabe, and realized right away why he was there … so she asked: what do you want from her?!

Okabe: I'm detective Okabe, … I'm here to arrest Mogami Kyoko-san for the crimes she has committed!

(In Yashiro's car)

Yashiro called the president as he was instructed by Todoh-san … he waited as the phone rang once, then twice … then Ruto answered

Yashiro pleaded that he gets connected to the president as it was an emergency, and so Ruto got Lory on the phone within a minute or so

Lory: what's the matter, you don't often interrupt my quiet time … I was so invested in this new game I got last week!

Yashiro: it's an emergency!

Lory got serious and asked: what's going on, tell me!

Yashiro: The police are coming to arrest Kyoko at the hospital!

Shocked, Lory asked: Today?!

Yashiro: what do you mean by, today?! … I said the police are coming for her because of the poisoned chocolates!

Lory: don't worry, they have nothing on her, … her lawyer has her covered!

Yashiro: you knew about this?!

Lory: yes! … we were talking for a while and we helped each other … I guess today is the day!

Yashiro: wait, what's going on?!

Lory: do you have a message for me?!

Yashiro: sure … Todoh-san told me to call you and tell you that it's happening today … and that you should contact Mr. K2 as soon as possible

Lory: I see … alright, I will do that!

Yashiro: at least tell me what I need to do!

Lory: where are you now?

Yashiro: in my car, he said that he doesn't want Kyoko, or Mogami-san to hear this yet!

Lory: sure, because if they learned about it, then their reaction won't be genuine

Yashiro: what do you mean! … Kyoko is an actress!

Lory: I know … but this is personal, and her mother isn't an actress … anyway! … I should get going now!

Yashiro: wait! … what am I supposed to do?!

Lory: I need you to keep an eye on the media and inform me if you see anyone near them!

Yashiro: alright! … I will do that, but …

Lory: watch from a distance, and update me and Ruto right away … I will have my tablet open!

Yashiro: but! … is everything going to be ok?!

Lory: Surly! … we will see what happens! … talk to you soon (then he hung up)

Yashiro looked at his phone with uncertainty … thinking (that wasn't reassuring!)

**On the other side**

Lory dialed the number of Mr. K2 and talk to him for a brief moment before hanging up

He then got up and said: we're heading out now, let's go Ruto!

Ruto followed him silently with the car keys in hand

Lory thought (That dirty cop used this sensitive time?! … Alas, how inconsiderate! … however, I'm hopeful we can put an end to this matter soon!

(In the Hospital – Saena's Room)

Everyone in the room was shocked hearing the police is after Kyoko, except for Todoh-san

Okabe ordered his subordinates, saying: hand-cuff her!

Saena: Wait!

Kyoko was scared, to say the least, she wasn't sure she ever committed a crime, rethinking her previous actions, and thought (I never took a Selfies before … what am I being arrested for)

Todoh: don't touch my client! … show me the arrest warrant first!

Okabe chuckled and asked: your client, she already lawyered-up?!

Todoh: Yes, I'm her lawyer, … now show me the warrant, or you won't be allowed to arrest her!

Okabe: ah … now I recognize you! … you're that Kyoto police guy!

Todoh: If you're referring to my brother, then that the Kyoto police chief for you! … don't you disrespect him!

Okabe: I hate people who go behind my back, you know … your brother has been a pain in the ass, and I assume you'll be too … since you come from the same rotten city of Kyoto!

Todoh raised his eyebrow and narrowed his eyes … he was seething inside, but tried to remain calm on the outside … he replied: I guess you have no respect for the historical city of Japan, what a shame!

Okabe: get over yourself! … people from Kyoto are all lame and stupid … they live in the past, while we live in the future!

Todoh: I don't think I want to argue about this with someone like you!

Okabe: you just can't admit I'm right! … whatever, I have some business to do here, so stay put, alright?!

Todoh: I can safely assume that you have no warrant, since you have been deflecting, and haven't produced one as of yet!

Ignoring Todoh, Okabe looked at Kyoko and said: your name is as lame as your background … Kyoko from Kyoto! … huh, what a joke!

Todoh: Don't insult my client …. he walked up to them and stood between Kyoko and Okabe)

Okabe sneered in disgust, and said: you, … is your mother paying your lawyer with her body too? or are you into older men too?!

Saena looked at him with anger, she wanted to refute him, but Todoh-san spoke first

Todoh: I will ask you to respectfully stop this ridiculous accusation! … because if you don't stop, then I think you will be dealing with more than you can chew on going forward!

Okabe: don't threaten me!

Todoh: I'm not! … but if you say nonsense that is already debunked, then I can sue you for defamation … this is not only her honor but mine as well!

Okabe sighed … then said: move, I need to see my suspect, as I read her, her rights!

Todoh: I don't see a warrant!

Kyoko seemed scared and nervous, but she trusted Todoh fully, so she listened to him and stayed behind him

Okabe: Mogami Kyoko-san … you are being accused of murder, plotting a murder-suicide … as well as tampering with evidence, and dealing with a dangerous substance … so, cooperate or else I will make your life a living hell!

Todoh: What the hell do you think you're doing?! … you can't talk to my client in such a manner!

Ren: what do you mean murder?!

Okabe: you're the victim, so don't worry, I will get her and throw her where she belongs!

Todoh: have you even talked to him? … did you talk to any of the witnesses or heard any of the testimonies?!

Okabe: I have my own way of dealing with criminals, so don't question me about my methods!

Todoh: I know well enough that you need a warrant before arresting anyone, none of this will be admissible to court!

Okabe: I have my ways … plus, the other detective did most of the work for me, so why do I have to do it all over again, I will just borrow his work from him!

Ren: is that even legal?!

Okabe: yeah! … he will just have to appear in court to answer to his findings … now let's go!

Todoh: we're not going anywhere … you haven't produced what I asked, so you have no right to arrest her!

Saena looked at Todoh and wondered about his plan

Okabe: we are going to the police station for an interrogation … only guilty people won't answer the questions

Todoh: what kind of inhumane timing is this, cannot you see that she's here with her mother who was injured in a car accident?

Okabe: you think I would be tricked by this nonsense?! … she's faking her injuries! … you're just trying to get any reason to keep her here! … Ms. Lawyer, stop acting! … show your true colors!

Saena looked at him with animosity, saying: you think this is fake? … why would I even fake this?!

Okabe: because you thought you can play the victim because of all the news coming out against you, … how do you make people feel sorry for you, easy, pretend your hurt!

Livid, Todoh: You're going too far!

Okabe: stop wasting my time with this crap! … arrest her already!

Todoh: Not on my watch! … I already said, if you don't have a warrant, you can't take her!

Okabe: So, basically she's guilty! … if you don't come for questioning, then she must be hiding something

Kyoko looked at Todoh and said: I don't mind answering your questions

Todoh: however, we will do it here, in the hospital!

Okabe: No chance! … she's a criminal! … her life is over!

Todoh smiled slyly and said: what if I can prove she's innocent!

Okabe: prove it in court, … let's get going!

Todoh: we're not going to the police station, if you want to talk to her, it will be done here, if not, then you can leave … come back if you get a warrant!

Okabe: are you afraid the media will find out and snap some pictures!

Todoh: She has every right to refuse to go to the police station when you try to fake arrest her!

Okabe: HEY! … watch it! this is Tokyo! … your brother can't save your ass here!

Todoh: He doesn't need to!

For a few minutes, the two stared are each other, neither wanting to surrender to the other

Okabe: We are going to the station! … tell her agency to handle the pictures if any … they can say something like "our actress caught after being free for a long time"

Todoh got a text, and so he opened his phone and smiled, saying: I don't think so!

Okabe got a call, so he stepped out to take it

Saena: what's going on?!

Todoh: don't worry … I got this all under control … you did great Kyoko-chan!

Ren wasn't just going to sit around and do nothing … so he asked: Can I do anything?!

Todoh: no need, just be patient, this will be over soon

Saena begged: Todoh! Please tell me what you're planning to do!

Todoh: just rest, you'll see soon enough

Saena: I can't just sit around with this happening! … I don't want you to get involved with that guy! … he ….

Todoh looked at her with confidence and said: You trust me, right?!

Saena: sure, I do … but ….

Todoh: we already anticipated this happening as a worst-case scenario … I'm well prepared for anything coming my way!

Saena: but you didn't tell me anything about that?!

Todoh: because if someone is going to be burdened by this, it won't be you! … you stay here and recover, I will bring her back here shortly, safe and sound … you have my word!

Saena: so, you kept this from me intentionally?

Todoh: with all the chaos going on, I didn't want to add one more thing to the list … you can only handle so much, … and look at where you are now!

Saena stressed: It's not your fault!

Todoh: I could've done more, perhaps … however, I would like you to stay here and wait!

Ren: Can I come?!

Saena: I'm coming too, … I can walk just fine!

Kyoko at this moment was lost in thought … she was thinking about the accusations towards her and wondered what is Todoh going to do about them … she was scared and although she fully trusted Todoh … doubts about the police officer had surfaced in her expression

Ren got closer to Kyoko and took her hand, wanting to comfort her, or just to give her some energy … power … or warmth … just anything to help her

Kyoko looked at Ren … looking into his eyes, she saw strength and comfort … which helped her smile a tad bit

He whispered: Don't worry, you're innocent and you have nothing to fear … wipe that fearful look off your face, don't let him intimidate you!

Kyoko nodded and smiled brightly … thanking Ren for his encouraging words

Okabe returned with a frown on his face, he said: what the hell did you do?!

Saena looked at Todoh with Worry, thinking (he didn't want to burden me with what? … don't do something stupid Todoh! … not for us! … If you want me to remain strong and work aside you, then you have to be there too!)

Todoh playing innocent, asked: what do you mean?

Okabe: alright, we can do this interrogation here, but you won't win! … I have evidence on my side, after all

Todoh: doubt it … since you never got a warrant using the evidence, you claim to have

Okabe stepped outside once again, waiting for his assistant to come back with information about which room they can use

He then returned and looked at Todoh, saying: I'm warning you, don't play games with the police!

Todoh smiled quietly

Okabe narrowed his eyes … and thought (darn this jerk … he will go down, or I won't be Okabe the great detective no more!)

Todoh: oh, I'm also going to request a copy of your evidence, I would like to look at it, for reference to mine

Okabe chuckled and said: be my guest … I'm sure mine will blow yours out of the water!

Todoh looked unconvinced, he just shook his head and waited

Okabe heard his assistant coming back, so he stepped out once more, and then said: Follow me!

Todoh: let's go Kyoko-chan!

Kyoko nodded … she looked at her mother and bowed … then looked at Ren as she followed Todoh out …

Ren looked at Saena and asked: are you coming?

Saena: definitely! … (she got off the bed, not caring how much pain she was in … she couldn't watch the police take her child for something she never did)

Ren stayed by Saena's side but kept his eyes on Kyoko the whole time

At some point they reached a bigger hallway, with waiting areas, half full with different people and patients … but no one really paid attention to them

Kyoko and Todoh were taken into a room, that is usually used for a staff meeting in the hospital … While Saena and Ren sat a few feet away … the room wasn't in sight, but that was the only seating area near that room

Katagiri arrived with a big briefcase, … he looked around, and then texted someone … shortly Todoh emerged out of the room to talk to him & get the briefcase … they both went to the side, and Todoh got everything he needed to do what they planned all along

Okabe took advantage of Todoh brief exit … and locked the room, leaving him alone with Kyoko

Kyoko felt nervous but remembered what Todoh told her, so she stayed as calm as possible

Okabe walked to the other side of the table … facing Kyoko … he looked at the huge piles of paper on the desk … he proceeded to shove them off the table, making a huge mess in the process, with papers flying all over the place

He then slammed his hands on the table and shouted: if you're innocent, why did you hire a lawyer?! …. Tell me you #$%& B*tch!

Kyoko looked at him calmly and said nothing as instructed

Okabe: what?! … did the cat eat your tongue? … speak up!

Kyoko looked at Okabe without saying anything … she trusted that Todoh will come back soon, but until then, she decided she won't say a word

Okabe: I see, you were asked to remain silent … you're really guilty indeed, … that lawyer can't do shit for you! … I'm the police and my word goes over his, any day!

He walked around the desk and was now right in front of her … he faced her, his face inches from hers … she moved away pulling her face back

He however caught her face with his hand and squeezed her jaw, causing discomfit and pain

Kyoko wanted him to leave her, … he smelled like a smoker and his breath stunk … he was being aggressive with her, and that scared her … especially being in the room alone with him

Okabe lied: he's not coming back, I had him arrested … if you thought he's coming back, think again!

At this point Kyoko was super confused and terrified … was she to believe him … is he trying to trick her into talking?

Okabe let go of her jaw, but not before shoving her down, causing her to fall with the chair she was seated on … she tried to get up, but he got there first and pinned her down, one hand on her neck, the other on her shoulder … at this point Kyoko was freaking out on the inside

Suddenly, there was a sharp knock on the door, … the knocking was loud and constant … he got up and order her to sit back in her seat … he then opened the door to see Todoh looking at him with a livid look on his face … he questioned: why the hell did you lock me out?!

Okabe: I needed to have a word with her

Todoh didn't believe him, he walked past him

Once he was at Kyoko's side, he asked: are you alright, did he do anything?

Kyoko looked at Todoh with fear in her eyes

Todoh didn't need an answer, he got it just from looking at her … he looked back at Okabe and said: what the hell is this?! … pointing at Kyoko's neck

Okabe raised an eyebrow, playing innocent, he asked: what are you referring to?!

Todoh: I'm not stupid! … you put your hand on my client?!

Okabe: I have my ways of interrogating my suspects

Todoh: I'm sure that suffocating them isn't even allowed, your trying to intimidate my client! … you're going too far!, and believe me when I say that I won't let this slide!

Okabe: you have no proof?

Todoh: oh really, … how is your fingerprint on her neck?!

Okabe: what the hell?! … stop accusing me and sit down because I want to get this over with!

Todoh: look at your fingers

Okabe looked at his hand to see ink on two of his fingers … he had spilled the ink bottle when he shoved the papers off the table, then slammed his hand on the table, which allowed the ink to cover two of his fingers

Todoh: My client's neck has your two fingerprints covered in ink … how do you explain that?!

Furious, Okabe accused: This is a setup! … you planned this!

Todoh: your people got this room, I had no choice whatsoever!

Okabe: I needed to have a word with my suspect!

Todoh sarcastically said: sure, … (then turn serious) saying: my client won't talk without me by her side

Okabe: that just proves she's guilty!

Todoh: No, it does not! … she has the right to have a lawyer, and she is doing exactly what I told her to do!

Seeing that Todoh had a briefcase and a file in hand, Okabe opened the door and asked for his documents

Todoh sat next to Kyoko and comforted her, he apologized and promised that everything will be fine … Kyoko nodded and remained quiet

(In the Waiting Area)

Saena and Ren sat down, one seat apart … they waited patiently but knew this might take some time before they know anything

Saena saw Katagiri-san sit down, and soon after a man she recognized came and sat beside him … he smiled and exchanged words … they laughed and talked as if nothing was going on, leaving Saena feeling a little lost and confused

Ren: isn't that man, Todoh-san's older brother

Saena: Yes, … I thought he returned to Kyoto … but he's still here it seems

Ren: perhaps, Todoh-san's plan has to do with his brother?

Saena: that's highly possible, with Todoh's behavior with that guy, I wouldn't be surprised if Satoshi-san told him it was ok to do so … although I wouldn't put it past him doing it on his own!

Ren: would such behavior land him in hot water?

Saena: Yes, no question about it!

Katagiri spotted Saena and stood up with Satoshi, then they approached them

Saena stood up as to be respectful of her boss

Katagiri: Why are you here, … you should rest in your room, Todoh has this all under control

Satoshi: yeah, we planned this together!

Saena: so, you're in on it!

Katagiri: we're all in on it … even Kyoko's boss!

Satoshi: yup, that man has lots of power for a businessman! … I'm actually impressed he didn't break any laws so far … he has a good head over his shoulders

Ren smiled thinking (Boss's actions were always in line with the law? … even as shady as he may be, he seems to be avoiding trouble!)

Saena: That guy said he had evidence, … do you happen to know what he's talking about?

Satoshi: I hardly call that evidence … it's just scribbling on a paper

Saena: he's bluffing?!

Katagiri: yes, it's all made up … that paper is actually useful to our case and not his

Satoshi opened his bag, took out the note, and handed it to Saena, then asked: do you see what we mean?

Perplexed, Saena asked: This is his evidence?

Ren: This is wrong!

Katagiri: You know English it seems!

Saena: This doesn't make sense, their solution at least!

She looked at the paper that said:

I need to order some

poisoned chocolates ASAP

fr Kyoko

Ren: they solved it as if there were two missing letters, but as … someone fluent in English, I can tell It's only missing one … it makes more sense that way!

Katagiri: right … that added two more after "fr" … making it From

Saena: when it's supposed to be missing one letter … making it "for"

Ren: when you right from, you would write your name in the next line, … that's what I learned at least!

Katagiri: I think so too … we believe this might be made up, by the culprit… it's also printed rather than written by hand, … which makes this mistake made on purpose, as a computer would usually suggest corrections

Satoshi: even the sticky note, … it's fake, … someone put some type of double tape or adhesive in the back … the cutting of the paper is also uneven and inconsistent

Saena: you saw the real one?

Satoshi: Yes, … I had one of my people work for that guy, as a spy … it's ok! … nothing illegal, just transferring action behind the scene … He reported to me because he saw some illegal work done right before his eyes

Saena: I see …

Katagiri: you should return and rest Mogami, she's in safe hands!

Satoshi: she might get hurt, but she will be fine by the end of the day!

Saena was surprised and wanted to ask, but Ren spoke first

Protective, Ren asked: what do you mean?!

Katagiri: calm down kid! … nothing too serious, … Okabe has some shady ways, but with Todoh by her side, he won't do much, if anything … if he did manage, Okabe will be held to it!

Satoshi looked behind him and saw someone he knew, so he tapped on Katagiri's shoulder and whispered to him something … with a wide smile on his face

Katagiri almost burst out laughing … he replied: perfect … I love to see the action for myself, I guess we lucked out today!

Satoshi: You bet! … I'm glad I came, … I thought the action was going to be elsewhere and I almost missed it!

Katagiri and satoshi walked away back to their original seats … they seemed relaxed and at ease … they were laughing and joking without a care in the world

That didn't help Saena feel any better … she still felt stressed, but stayed patient … she looked around, but couldn't identify who Satoshi was talking about

(In the Meeting Room)

Okabe sat down in his chair, facing both Todoh and Kyoko … he proceeded to open his file and started by saying: you know why you're here, correct?

Todoh answered: she's aware of your false accusation!

Okabe: Hey! … Shut up and let her talk!

Todoh: I'm just doing my job!

Okabe: let me tell you the scenario of how I think you planned all this

Okabe took out a picture of the chocolates and said: You order some chocolates from a fancy store, and had them delivered to your place, where you lived with your mother

Todoh opened a notepad and wrote that down with a huge smile on his face …. He put a couple of circles around "living with her mother"

Okabe felt annoyed at Todoh for smiling but continued: you also order some poison, and because you have a good background in cooking, you remade the chocolates yourself, adding poison to some of them

Todoh wrote "half not some"

Okabe looked at Todoh, then took out a paper and showed Kyoko a picture of the imperfect chocolates, saying: you however failed to make them exactly the same … any questions?

Todoh: go on!

Okabe: then, you sent them, after writing a note, making it look like a fan sent it to you, for getting a new role

Todoh wrote down ("fan?! …. Wasn't it the staff … this guy is nuts!) … he smiled slyly knowing the Okabe messed up big time … thinking (did he rush it? because his story is already falling apart!)

Okabe: wipe that smile off your obnoxious face, jerk!

Okabe sighed and then continued: next … you had them delivered to your set, … and you bragged about it to your coworker … but you didn't give anyone, because you didn't want anyone to suspect you if someone died

Kyoko felt underwhelmed … she thought (Is he ok in the head? … none of this makes sense!)

Okabe: then you took the chocolates home, but on the way there, you decided to stop somewhere, … while on the road, you shared one with your co-worker, Tsuraga, he's your biggest rival, and if he was gone, then you would have a bigger stage for yourself

Todoh wrote down "rival?!" … "bigger stage?!" … he would have burst out laughing if this wasn't a serious matter that needed to be managed properly … he couldn't turn it into a circus no matter how much nonsense he was hearing

Okabe took a deep breath and continued: you then shared it with your manager, who was driving, hoping that a car accident would cover your tracks

Todoh finally spoke up, asking: how many chocolates were missing?

Okabe: 3! … don't underestimate me

Todoh smiled, trying his best to not laugh, … writing "He said 3"

Okabe: but that didn't work, right, … because they ate safe chocolates … the reason is that you forgot which ones are poisoned and which aren't

Todoh raised an eyebrow but didn't comment

Okabe: Then, you decided to eat one, … and you collapsed once you reached your destination … but that was all a trick … you wanted to eat a poisoned one because your first plan failed, so you needed a backup! … you left the chocolates with them, telling them they can eat more hoping they would die without you being there … plus you didn't want your fingerprints to be found on the chocolates if they did end up dying from them

Todoh: wait … are you saying she thought her fingerprints would be found on chocolate that might be consumed by her targets? … how … I mean the chocolate is going to melt!

Todoh wrote down (didn't know where the poisoned are but took one anyway?)

Okabe: don't get technical on me! … and stop interrupting me! …

He then said: you ate the chocolate you took with you, so you would be considered a victim too! … but you only ate half, hoping that someone will save you in time!

Todoh raised his eyebrows in amusement and nodded, writing that down as well

Okabe: you were found and taken to the hospital, but when you woke up, you pretended that you lost your memory

Kyoko looked at Todoh in confusion, while thinking (I know the facts better than he does, … I didn't lose my memory, I thought they were expired)

Todoh wrote down "losing memory? … this guy didn't even read her testimony

Okabe: I even have evidence, as I said before …. (he took out the small note and presented it to them)

Todoh was already aware so he only took a glimpse

Kyoko looked at it and thought (I'm not bad at English! I know better than to make such a stupid mistake … this is offensive) … she frowned and thought (is this even real?)

Todoh: here's my question for you, Mr. detective … why would she order poisoned chocolates, if she made them herself? … which one is it?!

Okabe confused, he asked: I already said she made them because she was trained as a chef, she's capable of duplicating, but she did a poor job with those air bubbles (he pointed at the imperfect chocolates

Todoh raised an eyebrow and asked: so why did she order them in this note?!

Okabe looked at the note and failed to realize his mistake, saying: I already said, this is the evidence that she got the poisoned chocolates!

Todoh: ok, explain to me how she got the poisoned chocolates … but at the same time, she also made them?

Okabe: are you metal!? … she ordered them! … they came to her ready for her plan! … look at the note!

Todoh: but you said she was trained as a chef so she made them … make up your mind? … or at least present a coherent outline of events, because so far, you're not making much sense!

Okabe took the note back and looked at it again in confusion, then said: No, … she purchased the Poisoned chocolates, according to this note! … I never said she made the chocolates!

Todoh smiled and said: I didn't put words in your mouth, … I asked because I was confused by your own statement, … are you sure you have it all figured out because you seem confused yourself! … plus, I have written it down in my notes because I'm preparing for my own defense

Okabe: Shut up! … Don't question me! … you're just trying to confuse me about what's real and what's not!

Todoh: Alright then, Which one is it … bought them, or made them?!

Okabe: Made them! … she bought them too because you need the chocolates and the poison! … she forgot the plus between poisoned chocolate

Todoh: oh really, so you're saying that she was supposed to write poisoned + chocolate?

Okabe: No! … she ordered them … stop! … were moving on!

Okabe thought to himself (damn, I messed up, I thought I could use her chef training against her, but the notes are the opposite …. Shit! … I need to recover somehow, or I won't be getting my money! … I need this guy to get lost!)

Todoh: I want to ask something first!

Annoyed, Okabe: what now?!

Todoh: The note seems weird to me, … why do you assume that "fr" is "from"?!

Okabe: because Japanese people are terrible in English, … she made a spelling mistake because she's not good at a second language … besides she came from Kyoto, … the city that is far behind us evolved people, you think a Kyoto resident would know more English then I do?!

Todoh: what's with you and Kyoto being in the past? … anyhow, I think you're misjudging my client! … first, she might be young, but she's skilled in English, … second, when I look at this note, I can tell that it's supposed to be "for" not "from" … for two reasons!

Okabe: For?! … no way! … it's said, "from Kyoko"!

Todoh: if it's from Kyoko, then Kyoko would normally be written under From, not next to it, even middle schoolers know that! … besides, why would you forget to write two letters, oppose to one … the F in "fr" is not capitalized, moreover, this note was written on a device, and so autocorrect, or some other system would raise attention to the spelling mistake, however it was ignored and printed that way!

Okabe: why would you assume it's printed?! … some people have good handwriting, and I'm sure that's her handwriting!

Todoh: alright then, I shall ask you this instead, … did you match her handwriting to this note?!

Okabe: no need to, … since you said it's printed!

Todoh: wait, … can you be clear for once, you just said you were sure she wrote that with her own handwriting, … I assumed it's printed, and now you're saying it's printed?!

Okabe: written down, printed, who cares … stop poking holes in my story and let me finish!

Todoh: I think I'm done listening to your nonsense … I truly wonder how you made it this far, putting innocent people behind bars! … it's going to stop today!

Okabe: what the hell are you talking about! … stop bringing old cases and let me focus on this one!

Todoh: one of your victims was freed a few days ago after one of my own co-workers proved she was innocent! … another guy was freed 2 months ago, after being found innocent, and falsely accused by you!

Okabe: They were purely unlucky! … the evidence pointed to them, and I was able to prove it! … who knew there was evidence elsewhere to prove otherwise

Todoh: It's your job as a detective to look at every single clue you can find, and talk to as many people as possible, but no, you ignored friends of the accused and twisted the truth, throwing people in jail when they didn't do a thing!

Okabe: as I said, I have my ways to doing things … it's their bad luck they ended up in jail, I did my job and that's all I'm going to say about that case! … Besides, Japan is a country where you are guilty until proven innocent! … live with it!

Todoh: you just don't look at evidence that comes your way… I know you have thrown real evidence away just to make your case!

Okabe: what does it have to do with this case?!

Todoh: it has a lot to do with you ignoring the police report, testimonies, and facts about this case! … your accusation doesn't even make sense or add up!

Okabe: I think you're going way too far questioning my skills and talents as a detective! … if you want to remain here, shut up and let me finish with this!

Todoh: I don't think it's about your skills and more about the innocent people having their lives ruined by your faulty methods! … I have a lot of reasons to be wary of you and your accusation, especially when you're accusing my client, of a crime they were a victim of!

Okabe sarcastically said: right?! … that's her favorite status so far … I'm a victim, feel bad for me!

Todoh: I haven't seen my client do any of that!

Okabe: all the news about her … about her being abused for one … abandoned, … fatherless, … and even earlier, a victim of bullying! … she's purely an attention seeker, and I caught her Red-handed!

Todoh: that's a far cry from the truth! … an attention seeker? … do you think she's behind all that rubbish?! … and how is she an attention seeker when she was bullied?! … explain that?!

Okabe: she provoked those 4 girls, and followed them into the restaurant, … knowing exactly how they will act! … come on, don't take me for a fool!

Todoh: wow, it's actually almost impressive how you make stories up!

Okabe: She followed them on their social media, as they posted about it, she probably saw the post and went there, just to look like a victim!

Todoh: my client doesn't even have any social media accounts!

Okabe: sure, you can view some public accounts without having one!

Todoh: then explain how she accessed those social media platforms from her phone

Okabe: she had a smartphone with her when I entered the room, … you can download any platform on such a phone!

Todoh: that's her new phone, her old phone couldn't download those applications, and my client was never interested in those platforms, to begin with

Okabe: right?! … she's a celebrity, … she's expected to make an account!

Todoh: Sure, these days most celebrities may have social media accounts, but someone new and trying to focus on her career, doesn't need one until she gets a little more popular … but that's despite the point, … she doesn't have an account, and never accessed social media platform through any phone, I can get the data to prove that!

Okabe: then why was she the talk of the whole past week, moreover, she was all over the news the past two days as well

Todoh: That's not by choice! … if it was up to her, none of this would have ever been published … like she would want her mother to be accused of such terrible things!

Okabe: to be a victim, she would do anything!

Todoh finally snapped, and said: alright … that's it! … maybe I should teach you a little lesson about how facts are important when it comes to people and their lives! … you can't come here accusing her of something with this crap as evidence!

Okabe stood up and said: if you don't like my work, your free to leave!

Todoh: not until my client is free to go, … you can't accuse a victim of planning their own demise!

Okabe: some people are suicidal!

Todoh: I know enough to say that Kyoko never showed any signs of wanting to die, … she's young and full of life, … she's strong and won't be brought down by this!

Okabe: that's no proof!

Todoh: then shall I start my own crackdown on this case … because I'm done listening to your side, … it's just rubbish and a waste of time, …why not start with something simple! … how many chocolate pieces were missing from the box? … how many were consumed?

Okabe: I thought I already answered that! … I said 3!

Todoh took out a file from his briefcase and said: the police investigation has seized the box of chocolates at the parking lot, … near the scene … the box of 24 milk chocolate pieces had 20 pieces left … now how much is that?!

Okabe insisted: 3! … I already answered that!

Baffled, Todoh asked: 24 minus 3 equals 20? … I'm no math wizard, but I'm sure even a grade-schooler can give me a better answer … Kyoko, … do you remember how many chocolates were consumed that day? … you have given your statement, (he handed it to Okabe), then said: go ahead, tell me how many were consumed, and by who?

Kyoko: I remember that it was 4 … I ate one in the car, along with Tsuraga-san, the 3rd one was taken by Yashiro-san once he parked … and I took the fourth with me, but I only ate half of it

Okabe: that's 3 and a half! … I wasn't wrong!

Todoh: you said 3 chocolates were missing from the box … but the answer is actually 4!

Okabe: 1 difference isn't too much!

Todoh chuckled and said: even a ¼ of a centimeter makes a difference in court! … you had the facts wrong from the start!

Okabe stared back at Todoh, then said: I'm sure I can debunk all your claims!

Todoh: alright, … why don't we discuss your statements, where you said that she didn't know where the poisoned chocolates are … you remember that?

Okabe: sure! … she gave Tsuraga-san, and her manager the safe chocolates because she forgot the positions of where the poisoned ones are

Todoh: then, you said that she took one of the poisoned ones on purpose, how do you explain that … because your statement inconsistent

Okabe: she guessed! … or maybe she remembered the spot when she saw that nothing happened to the two guys

Todoh: alright, … you said she handed those chocolates to them

Okabe: Yes, because she tried to poison them!

Todoh: here, in all three of their statement, it's stated that they picked their own chocolate pieces… Tsuraga-san picked his own, as well as their manager… that alone debunks your claims!

Okabe: that doesn't change the fact she tried to poison them, she might have guessed which one they usually ate!

Todoh: then, where did all this happen?!

Okabe: the car!

Todoh: where did Kyoko collapse?

Okabe: her agency!

Todoh: have you looked at the notes the other detective prepared? … he gave you his file when the case was transferred to you!

Okabe: I do my own investigation, … I planned to use that file eventually

Todoh: but you don't even know where she collapsed!

Okabe: I already gave an answer!

Todoh: which is false! … because she actually collapsed in her mother's office! … her mother and I did CPR to keep her alive long enough for the ambulance to arrive!

Okabe: since you're involved, maybe you should step down from this case!

Todoh: I won't step down! …saving someone's life doesn't mean I was involved, … I'm just telling you the facts that you seem unaware of! … if you read that file, you would know all that!

Okabe: what's your point?!

Todoh: my point is that you're ignoring all the statements and facts and making up a story where you blame the victim using events that happened after the fact to paint her as an attention seeker!

Okabe: I'm trying to catch the criminal! … I'm sure I have her here!

Todoh: if your trying to catch a criminal you would have looked at all the facts and evidence collected earlier, and worked from there … there is no link between my client and the criminal behind this … nothing you say can change that fact, no matter how much you try to twist the truth!

Okabe: then who is the criminal?!

Todoh: isn't it your job to find them!?

Okabe: I told you she's the criminal I'm after!

Todoh: I'm glad that some people realized that you're a phony guy and reported your actions!

Shocked and annoyed, Okabe asked: what did you say?!

Todoh: since you were focusing on turning the victim in the criminal … we did our own investigation and found the person behind this whole thing!

Okabe: you're joking! … I'm the only person allowed to investigate this case!

Todoh: but that's not how things work, sure the case was officially yours, but some people had reasons to doubt your conclusion, so they worked behind the scenes, investigated the matter, and got to the answer we were hoping for … and more!

Okabe: who's we?! … you're just bluffing! … stop or else I will arrest you for making things up

Todoh: I'm sure I have the freedom to say whatever I want, … as long as I'm not hurting anyone at least! … I know the law and I use it effectively!

Okabe: you're cheating! … you're a lawyer, stay in your own lane! … your own investigation won't be allowed in court when I bring her to justice!

Todoh: don't worry, because you won't be there anyway!

Furious, Okabe shouted: What the actual F&*% are you saying?!

Todoh smiled slyly, as he rested his back and crossed his legs … he pulled out a file with a red tag, opened it, then presented a picture of a box full of money … and asked: care to explain this?!

Okabe paled the moment he laid eyes on the picture

Todoh smiled victoriously … then looked at Kyoko and winked

Kyoko wasn't sure where Todoh was going with this … but felt relieved because the only one making sense in the room was Todoh … she actually became excited and intrigued to know how Todoh will end things here

(At a Private All-Girls school)

A couple of police officers came to the school gates and request entry to the school grounds, which caused the principal of the school to go down herself to meet them

The lead detective, Yamato-san: He, we're here to talk to one of the students

The principle: may I know, why?! … this is a private girl's school!

Yamato-san: I'm aware … however, we have reason to believe that a person of interest in studying at this school … is currently in attendance!

The principal: can you do this elsewhere?! … I don't want my school to be affected by any news of police coming here … we have a reputation to protect!

Yamato-san: look, ma'am, we are just doing our job!

The principle: Not my problem! … my students are protected from this farce!

Yamato-san: If you don't step aside, I will arrest you for obstruction of justice!

In fear, the principal stepped aside, letting the lead detective and 2 of his officers in

Yamato-san asked where he can find the person he's after, and although reluctant, the principal herself took him to the club room where the person he wants always hangs out

**In the club room**

7 girls sat down chatting and laughing instead of doing their usual club work … the main girl was called Tanaka Hitomi, she sat with 4 of her friends, and 2 others

She was seated in a leather chair, and had one girl do her nails, as the other brush her hair … the other 4 sat down around her and chatted about boys and their dates, while Hitomi ordered the two other girls to do things for her … like get her a napkin, while the other to paint a different color because she has changed her mind

The principal knocked on the door and entered along with the Yamato-san and his two officers

The principle: This gentleman is looking for you, Hitomi-san … the other 6 can return to their classroom

Hitomi: Hey! … you can't order us around! … it's our club time, and I don't want my friend to be dismissed

unsure, Yamato-san asked: Is that how she speaks to you?!

The principal: she's the daughter of a climbing politician … and a sponsor to this school, … I have to respect her wishes

Yamato-san: even when you're the principal!?

The principal: can you finish up instead of asking me useless questions … I have my own way of running this school, and I didn't break any laws … get this over with, because I have other things to do!

Hitomi: why the hell is he here?!

Yamato-san took out an arrest warrant, and said: Tanaka Hitomi-san, you're under arrest for your attempt to murder Mogami Kyoko-san!

Shocked, and in disbelief, the principal: Wait what?!
