Chapter 44: Cupid's Arrow
(The cooking competition)
The host came on stage and welcomed everyone in the audience and viewers watching at home
He then explained this stage of the competition, as new watchers might not be well informed of how this show works
After that, he introduced all the competitors
Kyoko was introduced last, as she was the last person to be scooted for this competition
Kyoko was nervous getting on stage, given what happened in her latest appearance at the "Dark Moon" interview, but to her surprise, she got a lot of clapping and cheers
Some of her fans heard about the possibility of Kyoko being invited to the show and got a chance to join the audience to support her
The host then talked to the first guy, his name was Inoue Ayumu, 32 years old, a musician
Ayumu's mother was a chef, and she taught him everything he knew … he was very confident he would win the spot, as he said he was a talented cook … he claimed that he is the best person to represent his hometown, Kyoko
Next, the host talked to Kondo Genji, 27 years old, his father was a chef, as well as his grandfather and great grandfather, so he said that he inherited all their skills and is here to prove that he isn't just an actor
The host then talked to Yamamoto Chika, who was the oldest of the group, and is married with a child … she's a musician, and her husband is her producer
She was confident that her years of experience would benefit her, as her becoming a mother had helped her become more creative and speedier in the kitchen
Lastly, the host interviewed Kyoko and as asked her how she felt about joining this competition
Kyoko said she was grateful for the opportunity and is thankful to everyone who taught her how to cook, … then said she would try her best tonight
Her response was considered the most humble to everyone watching … she didn't flash her skills, nor did she sound arrogant like the other three
The host then ushered them to their cooking stations … he explained that each of the competitors should cook a Kyoto dish they loved eating … he then put 45 minutes on the clock, then said: START!
The first 3 ran as if their life depended on it … while Kyoko followed them seeming like she wasn't in a big rush
They picked all the ingredients they needed in a speedy manner dropping a few things in the process … meanwhile Kyoko strolled around carefully picking what she needed as if she wasn't feeling the same rush the others were in
The three went back to their cooking station almost a good minute and a half before Kyoko joined them … every one of them started cooking right away
Kyoko took her time organizing her thoughts and ingredients on the station before starting, not seeming in a rush at all
15 minutes went by and the three competitors seemed to be feeling the stress … one of them burned their first batch, so they ran to get more ingredients … the other spilled some of their mixtures, so they cursed, while they tried to reorganize … the third seemed all over the place, unable to focus on one thing
Meanwhile, Kyoko seemed to be in her own world … she seemed calm to some extent, trying not to get distracted by the others … she took her time and worked efficiently
The host noticed that Kyoko was calmer and more organized, not rushing at all
As the halfway point passed, angst and stress seemed to sink in, as the three competitors seemed to notice they might run out of time
Kyoko on the other hand, seemed to be in her own world, tasting her food and slowly working on adding some spices to improve the flavor … she seemed so calm and at peace, that she started doing the dishes as she waited for her timer to go off
The host and audience noticed a huge difference between Kyoko and the other competitors … 3 of them seemed to be there to prove something, while Kyoko seemed to be enjoying her time, and not stressed about cooking at all, to a point that some people assumed that Kyoko wasn't taking the competition seriously
In fact, some of the competitors felt the same, especially Ayumu … he thought that Kyoko wasn't being serious, and wanted to lash out at her, but he couldn't waste his precious cooking time, so he decided to confront her later … after beating her with his own cooking skills
As the time went by … 10 more minutes had passed, and the 5 remaining minutes started to tick into the final countdown … Kyoko started plating her dish calmly … while the other 3 struggled … some ran to get dishes … while the other seemed to be checking on the food he's still cooking
The host did the final 10 seconds countdown, but at that point, Kyoko was already done, … as she calmly cleaned her plates and made sure her dish was presentable
Once the competition ended … all 4 managed to finish the cooking in time … Ayumu seemed visibly annoyed as he stared at Kyoko who stood there cheerfully
The host finally introduced the judges … 2 of the judges were former celebrities who entered the culinary stage after retiring from showbiz, while the third judge was a current Kyoto chef, who was asked to be the special guest judge for that episode
The 4 competitors were asked to bring their dishes to the front table for the chiefs to sample them
Out of the 4 dishes, Kyoko's dish seemed the most colorful and neat … as the three others rushed so much that their plating seemed a little sloppy
The 3 judges approached Ayumu's dish, and asked him to describe it for them … he smiled smugly as he described his dish elaborately
The three judges tasted the dish, one nodded, the other said they loved the flavors he presented, while the guest chef critiqued his plating … he said that the dish seemed to be missing some seasoning, pointing out that Ayumu seemed to have rushed things to make it in time
Next was Kondo Genji, … the first judge commented on the sloppy plating, and said he expected more from someone who comes from a family of chefs … the food did taste great, so he gave him a point on that … the other judge said that she didn't like how spicy the food was, as the chili overpowered the other flavors, … the chief agreed with her on that, adding that the side dish didn't go well with the main one … which is a letdown
Yamamoto Chika was next, … and she got better reviews from the first judge, but the second judge and the chef had said they felt her fish was bland, and that they thought that she needed more acidity to go with her overall dish … but she did ok overall
As the three judges went over to the final contestant, Kyoko, … Ayumu sneered and mumbled saying: she doesn't even deserve to be here … she's not even taking the competition seriously
The host tried to ignore the comment, and they decided to talk to Kyoko before tasting her food
Judge 1: how old are you, Kyoko-san?
Kyoko: I'm 17 years old
Host: you're the youngest competitor to date … how do you feel?! … did you do your best?!
Kyoko: yes, I did!
Judge 2: I honestly felt like you were in your own corner, … you took your time doing everything, including the dishes
Kyoko: well, I followed my Taisho's example, he told me that rushing isn't necessary if you know what you need to do … I never saw him rush around even when the restaurant was very busy, which is very inspiring!
Guest Chef: how confident are you in the dish you're presenting us?!
Kyoko cheerfully and humbly answered: I'm confident that I did my best … I hope you like it!
Intrigued, the Guest Chef took the first bite … he then looked at Kyoko … then at the dish … then at Kyoko … then back to the dish seeming baffled and speechless
Judge 1 tried the dish too and he was equally speechless … he looked at the chef and nodded
Judge 2 tasted the dish next, and covered her mouth seemingly pleasantly surprised … she then exclaimed: this is delicious!
Guest Chef took another bite or two before speaking his mind saying: This is outstanding!
Kyoko felt relieved hearing their praises … as she held her breath nervously, feeling a little self-conscious when their tasting was met with silence
The host asked: can I taste it?!
Judge 1: go ahead! … you might regret not doing so … this is the best dish I tasted throughout this season!
The Host took a bite then looked at Kyoko taking a step back asking: are you sure your 17?! … your dish can be presented in a 5-star restaurant!
Judge 2: is this a recipe you learned from your Taisho?!
Kyoko: well, … the dish was something I learned back in Kyoto, but after coming here and learning a few more tricks, I tried to add my own spin on it!
Judge 1 asked: are you sure you want to be an actress? … because I can totally scoot you to be a chef in my restaurant!
Judge 2: no way! … that's my idea!
Guest Chef: give it up you two, if she would work with anyone, it should be me!
Kyoko wasn't sure how to react … so she smiled awkwardly and thanked them for the nice offer
Guest chef: please take it into consideration, I'm being Serious!
Judge 1: will maybe all three of us should compete to see which food she likes best, and the winner can give her a job at their restaurant
Ayumu felt underappreciated when all of them were fighting over Kyoko, making him feel like a loser … so he asked: how good is her cooking?
Judge 2: taste it! … go ahead, all three of you, come and try it!
The host struggled to react, as the other competitors tasting Kyoko's dish weren't in the program, and he wasn't sure if he should cut to a commercial break or not, but the producer told him to keep going for now
Ayumu was still irritated, so he hesitated to taste a dish that got a better reaction than his.
Chika-san came first and tasted the dish, then covered her mouth in shock as she said: that's Yummy! … the flavors are spot on!
Ayumu put his pride aside and tasted the dish next … he then looked at Kyoko and felt baffled, she produced such amazing flavors, for someone so young and inexperienced … he was slightly jealous at this point, and couldn't help but admit that his dish wasn't as good as hers
Genji came after him and tasted the dish, then exclaimed: this is delicious indeed! … I can eat this all year round… by any chance, are you single?!
Shocked by his question, Kyoko only managed to say: eh?!
Genji: I'm enchanted by you and your cooking!
(In Ren's dressing room)
Ren was filming his new movie this month
He had come to set on his own because he wanted Yashiro to stay by Kyoko's side
As he was on break, Ren decided to watch the cooking show, since it was live
He felt very proud of Kyoko for staying calm and collected, cooking at her own pace … not rushing like the other three
When the tasting time came, he was sure Kyoko would do great because he was confident in her cooking skills … because in the end, he learned from the best!
As the judges tasted her dish, he got more interested, seeing their reaction, while thinking (they loved it! … it's clear she did the best!)
He smiled happily as the judges complimented her, even allowing the host to taste her dish, knowing it must be the winner
He was surprised when the other contestants got a chance to taste her dish
Ren dropped his phone when Kenji asked Kyoko about her relationship status and flirted with her on TV … he knew Kyoko's cooking is outstanding, but for other men to taste it and then try to take her away was unacceptable
He sure couldn't do anything but hope that she doesn't see other men but him … he knew he was being possessive, and wanted her all for himself
he did think it might be unfair for her, because he had gotten some experience growing up, going from one girlfriend to another, being dumped over and over again, despite thinking he satisfied them with his performance and gifts … that was never enough for them because he never gave them his heart
Yet, here he is willing to give his whole heart to Kyoko, ready to do anything for her, yet treating her like a glass slipper, because she's inexperienced, and he always feared he would freak out and lose her
He did notice a huge change … a shift in her reaction to him and his flirting antics … she didn't flinch away in fear, and boy that kiss they shared at the premiere was the highlight of his nights since then
He was ready to give her everything, even give up on some project to spend more time with her … he had also turned away a good chance to go to the US … He had a chance to appear in the same project Kanae was doing right now, but … when Kyoko ended in the hospital he withdrew right away, not wanting to be apart from her … he didn't regret his decision one bit, and even Lory was understanding and accepted his stance with grace
It took him forever to gather his nerves and get his act together to confess his feelings to her … he never wanted to rush things, but when he saw her in a coma it broke his heart to a million pieces … he needed to tell her how he felt and declare all his secrets
She didn't fear him, she instead encouraged him, and comforted him … and understood him … she didn't judge him, nor did she blame him … which made him feel like he made the right decision to tell her … even regretting he wasn't honest even earlier … why did he wait for so long, and only told her after a scare that made him feel like he almost lost her
Now, he felt a little more secure, she knew his feelings, and she might share them? … she accepted his complements and talked to him about her doubts … she trusted him, and shared her secrets … she was the only woman he let in his apartment, and she would be the only one ever
But now, this dude who only met her on the show is asking her if she's single? … flirting and implying that he wants her to be his, and to cook for him her amazing food?!
"How dare he?!" Ren thought … (and he's also older than me?!" … she's a minor! … keep your filthy hands off her!)
Perhaps that's what he was worried about … men finding her cooking amazing that they want to take her away … the chef's fighting for her to join their restaurant isn't as bad as asking her about being single
Ren felt like he wanted to go out on air and declare his love for Kyoko, displaying his dominance over her … warning other men from challenging him for her … yet he knew she wasn't ready for that, and although the campaign was getting great result … its way too early to know how effective it is to change people's minds and behavior
He held his head in despair not wanting to hear the ads playing … given the show went to a commercial break while the judges prepare to reveal the winners who will represent Kyoto
He grabbed water and drank it all … whilst he wished that Yashiro would handle the situation backstage, protecting his women from that guy, whatever his name was
(The cooking competition)
After the Commercial break ended … the camera hovered over the cooking stations one by one, showcasing the dishes that were cooked by the four competitors
The camera then showcased the competitors standing side to side
Then the camera switched to the judges who were standing next to one another, facing the contestants
Finally, the camera focused on the host, who welcomed the viewers back, and announced that it was time to reveal the two winners who will represent Kyoto
Each judge had a chance to speak about the dishes, giving their favorite part of each dish and what they wished would have been different … however, Kyoko's dish was the only one that all the judges had no criticism about… The guest chef did say the only thing he wished Kyoko did was cook more of it, because he couldn't have enough, causing everyone to laugh
The host thanked the judges for their input and finally asked the judges to reveal the two winners
Judge 1: we have four amazing cooks here, and although some dishes didn't come out great, we appreciate all the effort! … although third place doesn't guarantee a place in the main competition, we still think it's good to give them recognition … I think Genji-san did a great job with the flavors, however, his dish still fell short, compared to Yamamoto Chika-san's dish! … Congratulation Chika-san! … you did amazing! … and We'd love to see you, and Genji-san cook in the future!
Both Genji and Chika thanked the judge, knowing they placed in third and fourth place respectably
Now it was between Kyoko and Inoue Ayumu's dishes
However, Ayumu already knew that he placed second because he tasted Kyoko's dish and he knew his dish was no match for hers
Judge 2: which means Kyoko-san and Ayumu-san are the two who will be moving on to our main competition! … great work you two!
The host and audience clapped happily for the two winners
The guest chef: but, we should also reveal who came in first and who came in second! … I think that our reactions made it clear who the winner is … and so, without further ado, Kyoko-san! … you placed first in today's competition!
Kyoko heard a lot of happy cheering … people clapping and whistling … calling her name while shouting complements
That made Kyoko bow down respectfully to the host and judges … thanking them for the opportunity, and for liking her food ... she was truly humbled by this experience
The guest chef: you're a Phenomenal young lady, Kyoko-san! … and I know you will do amazing things in the future! … I truly hope you become like our two judges and join us in the culinary arts after retiring from Showbiz, … be sure that we will welcome you with open arms, I promise you that!
Everyone congratulated Kyoko, even Ayumu seemed humbler compared to when he first come on stage
The show ended, with the promise that the audience will see Ayumu and Kyoko again in the near future
Everyone went backstage, so they can collect their things and get ready to leave
Ayumu approached Kyoko and apologized for doubting her and her cooking skills, complemented her earnestly … and wished her luck on their next showdown … then bid her goodbye with a flashy smile
Chika-san also complimented Kyoko and asked her if she could share her recipe one day, which Kyoko didn't mind at all, so they exchanged emails, so Kyoko can send her the recipe as soon as she can
Yashiro came to Kyoko's side and congratulated her on an amazing performance, saying that he knew she could win … and was very happy that she did!
At this point, Kenji came and said: can I have a moment?!
Kyoko: sure!
Yashiro was eyeing Kenji since he asked Kyoko on life TV about her relationship status … he was wary of him and wanted to keep him away
Kenji: is this your manager?!
Kyoko: yes, this is Yashiro-san!
Yashiro answered coldly: ya, do you have a problem with that?!
Kenji: no, … I just hope that I can have a word with her alone!
Before Kyoko can say anything, Yashiro warned: No can do! … I can't leave an adult male like you with a minor unsupervised, especially since you asked her something improper on live TV!
Kenji: I'm not planning to do anything dirty!
Still suspicious, Yashiro bluntly said: I still don't trust you! … your 10 years her senior!
Kenji: what's wrong with a 10-year age gap!? … I know many people can make it work!
Kyoko: wait! … what are you talking about?!
Kenji: Kyoko-san! … I think I already told you that I find you interesting! … I think your cooking hit me like a cupid's arrow! … I would like to ask you to give me a chance, we can meet for coffee and get to know each other better, … and maybe become a couple in the future!
Annoyed, Yashiro: are you trying to hit on a minor?!
Kenji: you're her manager, not her mother! … move it and let me finish talking!
Kyoko: …
Yashiro: are you sure you won't hit on a minor, knowing her mother is a lawyer?!
Shocked, Kenji exclaimed: lawyer?!
Unimpressed, Yashiro: what, were you living under a rock or something?!
Kyoko: it's ok, Yashiro-san … as much as I appreciate your interest, … I'm still young, and working hard on my goal to become a great actress …
Kenji: I can wait for you!
Kyoko looked down, then said: I'm sorry … (she then looked up and smiled) then said: I don't think it would work! … (she lied) saying: I'm not interested in that kind of relationship… I hope you find someone who will make you happy … it was great meeting you and cooking beside you, Kondo-san! … have a good night
Yashiro felt a little relief hearing Kyoko rejecting Kenji … and he gave a slight bow, before walking away with Kyoko … standing behind her protectively
(In Yashiro's car)
After they got into the car, Yashiro cheered once again saying: you did Amazing, Kyoko-chan!
Kyoko: Thank you! … I'm glad you got me this opportunity! … I enjoyed the challenge!
Yashiro: I'm glad you had fun! … you looked so comfortable and composed, which served you well!
Kyoko: I was slightly freaking out on the inside when time ticked away … but I found a good rhythm and stayed with it!
Yashiro: really?! … I couldn't tell! … how did you hide it so well?!
Kyoko smiled and said: I don't know?! … I just tried to stay calm and told myself that I cooked this before, so no need to rush! … Tsuraga-san told me to stay calm no matter what because rushing can possibly cause me to lose my focus … so I took his advice to heart, and moved at my own pace!
Yashiro: when?!
Kyoko: he emailed me before the competition!
Yashiro thought (emailed you?! … since when did he get your email?! … wait! … this is another step towards progress!)
Kyoko: thank you for standing up with me … I really don't get why that guy kept winking at me backstage… I know my cooking is good, but I didn't think it would make that guy get weird ideas!
Yashiro: well, there is a saying that says ""the way to a man's heart is through his stomach"!
Kyoko laughed and said: not all men!
Yashiro smiled and asked: do you think so?!
Kyoko: I know so! … Tsuraga-san doesn't even like food! … so, I don't think cooking for him would get a woman to win his heart!
Yashiro: I would say otherwise!
Kyoko: you know how much he avoids food!
Yashiro: not yours!
Kyoko: well …
Yashiro: anyways, … let's go pick him up!
Kyoko: oh! … I didn't expect to see him today!
Yashiro: His car needs some repairs, and he doesn't want to risk driving it in its current condition!
Kyoko: I see!
Yashiro and Kyoko chatted a little on the way to the Studio, where Ren was standing outside, looking at his phone casually
Yashiro parked in front of Ren, and unlocked the door, allowing Ren to get into the car … then drove away
Ren: great work, Mogami-san!
Kyoko: you saw the results?
Ren: I actually had a break, so I got to watch most of it!
Kyoko: really?!
Ren: congrats on getting first place, I knew you could do it!
Kyoko: Thank you! … I appreciate your advice, it helped me immensely
Ren: I'm glad I could help! … especially after all the help, you provided with your lessons!
Kyoko: that's the least I could do! … you also helped me with my Tennis lessons!
Yashiro: say, … Ren! … do you like Kyoko-chan's cooking!
Assertive, Ren said: Absolutely!
Kyoko looked down trying to hide her face that was turning red
Yashiro smiled slyly and asked: so, do you think you can eat better if you had Kyoko's cooking?
Ren caught on to Yashiro's scheme and asked: you're asking as if you don't know the answer!
Yashiro: I'm just trying to make it clear, that you're just a normal man, and someone's cooking can capture your heart if it's amazing!
Ren narrowed his eyes and asked: so, did that dude bother her?!
Kyoko: who?!
Yashiro: oh, he didn't even care she was a minor!
Annoyed, Ren: the nerve!
Kyoko: I think I made it clear that I wasn't interested!
Yashiro: you did well … I just hope that guy listens … because people like him can become sticky gum that won't get off easily!
Ren: will then, I trust that you will protect her from that piece of gum, at all costs!
Kyoko frowned and complained: I don't understand you two!
(In Saena's Apartment)
After a long day of work, the duo came back to Saena's apartment, because they were just tired … the case with Kimiko was nowhere near the end, as her lawyers were trying different strategies to delay her arrival … given the fact she was also avoiding coming back on her own accord
Everyone involved was getting frustrated with the situation since Kimiko learned that her downfall was getting closer
Her family suggested she'd go somewhere and stay hidden, but Kimiko didn't like that, because that would restrict her movements, and keep her away from the man she liked
Saena sat down, feeling mentally exhausted … she didn't know that the Morizumi family were that shameless … given the fact, that their daughter tried to kill hers once, and helped give ideas for the second attempt
Todoh sat next to her and suggested they watch Kyoko's cooking competition, to lighten the mood a bit … which Saena agreed to
They both sat next to each other and watch … Todoh commented a few times on how amazing Kyoko was for being composed despite the pressuring situation she was in
Saena joked that he was no different, … he was naturally calm and didn't let a ticking clock bother him
Todoh smiled and said: your right … I never actually paid attention to the time I had during exams, and always left early, because I never let it get to me
They watched the judges taste and compliment Kyoko's cooking, not finding anything wrong with it, which they both expected, given they had Kyoko's cooking and thought it was perfect as it is
Saena was proud of Kyoko for doing great, so she smiled, feeling confident would win and get a place in the main competition
Todoh voiced the same … he knew Kyoko is the most capable, judging by how the three others struggled to finish on time
When Kenji tasted Kyoko's food and asked her about her relationship status, … Saena felt concerned with the fact a man 10 years older is freely asking her daughter something private on live television … she sighed in worry not knowing how to react
Annoyed, Todoh commented: what an airhead! … she's a minor, stay in your own lane!
Saena: that's what concerns me … some men don't care how old the women are when they approach them … I just hope she has her manager with her!
Todoh: The world is truly dangerous out there!
Saena: I can't protect her from everything, I can only give her advice, … but I'm unsure what useful advice I can give her in such a situation!
Todoh: it would be tricky!
Saena: I don't want to think too much today … let's just finish watching!
Todoh: sure~
They watched Kyoko win first place … they both smiled happily, feeling proud of Kyoko's achievement … she did great and she earned that win fair and square
Todoh turned off the Tv after the show ended, and said: perhaps I should let you rest for tonight!
Saena: you don't have to leave …
Todoh: should I make some tea!
Saena: I can help!
Todoh: let me do it! … just sit and relax!
Saena nodded as she looked away blushing
Todoh smiled as he walked to the kitchen … he boiled the water and made the tea, then served it
Saena: thank you
Todoh smiled and said: you're most welcome!
Saena stared at him as he handed her a mug
Todoh stared back … feeling a change in the atmosphere … however he dismissed it, given the rules they agreed on … he sat next to Saena and sipped his tea quietly
Saena held her mug nervously … she then sipped a little, then put it down
Todoh: too hot?
Saena: maybe …
Todoh: you must be tired! … perhaps you should rest instead!
Saena: it's ok … I'm fine!
Todoh nodded and looked back at his mug … he was trying to remove himself from there because he was starting to feel impatient, and unsatisfied with the rule, he suggested from the beginning … he knew it would be risky if he crossed the line and did something uncalled for
Saena sensed that he was trying to find a reason to leave, because perhaps he wanted to do something, and he's trying his best to hold himself back … so she asked: perhaps we can talk? … or rather … let me just say, … I won't be upset if we accidentally broke a rule or two
Hearing that kindled a fire in Todoh's eyes … he knew he was slowly getting impatient, given the fact they started dating … it was much easier to stop himself when clear walls and borders were standing in his way … but now, he's become her partner … and that changed things significantly
He put his mug down then looked at her and said: do you know how dangerous it is to say something like that?!
Saena: I'm willing to take the risk! … as much as I think that you were being thoughtful when you suggested that rule, … I don't think it's technically effective, not anymore at least!
Todoh's eyes were burning with desire, … he wasn't able to calm himself hearing that … in fact, the fire was igniting much stronger after hearing her last statement
Saena: we just have to be careful …
Todoh declared: say no more!
Saena looked at him and smiled, giving him permission to do as he pleased
Todoh pressed his lips on hers … kissing her affectionately … he then pulled back and said: you don't know what kind of door you opened … I must warn!
Saena slyly said: I don't mind … but as much as I like talking to you, I prefer to talk less and do more!
Todoh: your orders are my command! Milady!
Their lips met once more, feeling more urges to satisfy their basic need for intimacy
Todoh hugged her body closer as he deepened the kiss
Saena felt a little uncomfortable with her sitting position, so she pulled away … she faced him then leaned in, as he leaned in and kissed her again
Her hands comfortably went to his hair and played with it, so he smiled and groaned happily
She felt his hand roam around her back, which made her a little self-conscious, but didn't stop anything … she didn't mind, because she knew he wouldn't cross that line … she trusted him and wanted to let him explore, as long as they didn't get too far
Todoh was enjoying himself and thought he could push a little bit more, so he sneakily pushed his tongue in, … finding no resistance made him more confident and comfortable seeking more
His lips moved to her neck, which she didn't mind … she let out a little moan, but kept playing with his hair as he nestled his face in her neck crease kissing her eagerly
His lips climbed a little more, reaching her ears, as he kissed them slightly … he slowly went from kissing to sucking her earlobe
However, the moment Saena felt teeth near her earlobe, she pulled away in a flash as shrieked in fear and panic
Todoh was taken aback for a second, but he didn't react … he looked at her and observed her reaction cautiously
Saena held her ear and shrank down, feeling embarrassed
Her mind went straight back to her time with "Misonoi" … something he often did was bite her earlobe just before or as he undressed her … so she automatically connected sex to him biting her ear playfully… she didn't hate it back then … but now, it brought back bad memories and Trauma … it triggered her, even though Todoh didn't even bite down
Todoh's mind went through a train of thoughts … connecting her possible reaction to something that guy once did to her, and what meaning it could have behind it … he never meant to scare her or trigger anything, but he didn't know what they did back then, so it would be hard to avoid doing things that might trigger her if her didn't know what they were
However, he thought (I didn't bite, but maybe that's something that was done to her in the past)
Saena looked at Todoh nervously … she didn't want to bring that man up, thinking it would ruin both his mood and hers equally
Todoh thought he would be damned if he bought that man up, so he thought about a different approach and asked: you don't like that?
Saena was surprised by his general question … he didn't press her on anything, he just asked if she didn't like that … so she nodded nervously
Understanding, Todoh: alright … so no biting or sucking on your ears?
He added one more choice to see which one she hated more … as he didn't want to avoid something that she didn't mind him doing
Saena: just … no biting ….
Todoh: alright! … is there anything else you want me to avoid?
Unsure, Saena said: just that … for now
Understanding, Todoh: ok! … I'm sorry if I hurt you!
Saena shook her head … and said: I'm fine, and I'm not hurt … you didn't do that anyway … I just overreacted
Todoh: no … don't say that … it's ok for you to react if you don't like something … I understand!
Saena looked at Todoh and asked: is there something you don't like?
Todoh: nothing in particular!
Saena looked down and nodded silently … mentally noting that he didn't mind her actions so far
Todoh didn't know how to go from there … he didn't want to push his luck, so he thought he should resume drinking his tea and see where things go, but he didn't get the chance
Saena held his face … and said: sorry … I didn't want to ruin this …
Todoh: you don't need to apologize … I'm not bothered at all … I want you to freely express yourself and tell me how you feel … if you don't like or want something, just let me know so I can avoid upsetting you!
Saena: you also don't want to stop, right?
Todoh smiled slyly and asked: who would?!
Saena leaned in to kiss him one more time … this time the kiss was sweet, short, and affectionate
Todoh stared at Saena as she pulled away shyly … she dropped her hand that is in a cast, slightly bumping it on the couch … she looked a little uncomfortable while she looked at her cast
he held her hand and asked: does it bother you?
Saena: it's a little itchy … that's all
Todoh: inside?!
Saena: yes … I can't really itch under the cast … so I just bear with it … I hope I can remove it soon
Todoh: you can't do anything else about it?
Saena: not really … I try to distract myself by doing other things, but sometimes it gets in my head and I can't think of anything but the itchiness
Todoh felt bad he couldn't do anything to help her
Saena: I can manage, … so don't worry about it!
Todoh: how about I distract you a little more … just a little!
Saena flushed, but nodded in agreement … she didn't mind such distraction, in fact, she like it very much … she knew what he meant as he smirked mischievously
Todoh kissed her again … locking his lips with hers eagerly … he swiftly moved to deepen the kiss, as it came naturally to them
Saena hugged his neck as he snuck his tongue in once again … meeting with hers … making the kiss more intimate … arousing both of them to some extent
Todoh hugged her closer and bit her lips affectionally … he showed a bit of possessiveness and she didn't mind it at all … in fact, she was enjoying it more and more
She was finally listening to her heart and her desires … she had needs just like any other human, she had a roof over her head, she had food and water, and a job … yet, there were some needs she never allowed herself to acquire for a long time, which were love and affections
After what happened years ago, she had decided that even if she wanted to be loved, even if intimacy made her feel good, … there were too many risks associated with it … she never imagined giving her heart away again, and neither did she want to feel the warmth and affection … love or acceptance … she considered herself dirty, used and thrown away, and had no good quality except for her education and dedication to her job, to pay for her mistake
But things changed now, her close friend she trusted for over 20 years confessed that she had his heart, despite her continuous rejection over the years … she finally saw him in a different light, and slowly she started falling for him … for showing her love, care, and support … he never asked her for anything in return but to have a place by her side … she loved his work attitude and the fact he the smartest man she knew… but he went above and beyond for her sake, so she couldn't turn a blind eye no more
It wasn't for his sake only, but for hers as well … she couldn't get enough of his love and support from friendship alone … she was curious to what would happen if she accepted his heart, and give hers in return … the beginning was little awkward, but in the same time, it was great, because they talked honestly and slowly started acting comfortably around each other
She gradually found herself expressing her feelings, and desires, even allowing him to kiss her in her own place, despite the rules they agreed on … she love the feeling of their lips touching … it felt liberating … it felt different … and better than anything she felt before
She thought (I want more of this … I don't want to stop ..)
She slowly climbed onto Todoh's lap, who welcomed her enthusiastically … one hand on her waist, while the other cupped her face closer to his …
He moved to her neck once again, kissing her soft skin, feelings amazing energy between them … he couldn't even compare this feeling to anything he felt in the past … he thought (this must feel great because she's the one … she's the one and only woman I want!)
As he kissed her neck, a moan escaped Saena once more … she couldn't help it as it felt great … his touch, his attentiveness … his affection … she wanted it all … their lips locked once more, as she played with his hair, tugging softly as she felt satisfied and elated
As they lived in the moment and enjoyed it thoroughly … they didn't notice the door unlocking
Kyoko finally returned home, and she was exhausted … she might have been calm all throughout the competition, but her muscles tensed up … as she tried to control her emotions, she didn't realize how draining it would be once she truly relaxed
She took off her shoes without noticing what was happening in the living room … she walked by as she yawned tiredly, wanting to take a relaxing bath to soothe her achy muscles … she hadn't even noticed Todoh's shoes, therefore she dropped her bag on the table without a care, and slowly walked towards the bedroom, eyes half-closed, and not focused on anything
Bang!
Kyoko's bag fell on the floor, as Kyoko didn't even put it on the table fully, so the gravity caused the unbalanced bag to fall and spell some of her stuff on the floor
Saena immediately pulled away and put some distance between herself and Todoh … fixing her clothes as soon as she possibly could … trying to wrap her mind concerning what just happened
An exhausted Kyoko rushed to her bag and sighed heavily as she picked up her bag heavily, feeling like it was 10 pounds heavier … she picked up her things, still unaware of what she walked into
Saena noticed Kyoko looked tired and wasn't reacting in a guarded way, which made her assume that Kyoko didn't even see them in such an intimate moment … she felt relieved by that possibility
Todoh stood up and straightened his clothes … then looked at Saena apologetically
Saena wanted to rush to his side … to fix his hair, and wipe the lipstick marks … she wished she could hide him, but Kyoko might have seen his shoes, so there was no use to do so … she pointed on her lips, signaling that he should do something about his … which he understood right away … so he put his hand in front of his lips, hiding any marks behind it
Kyoko stood up slowly … sighing again as she put the bag on the table properly this time around … she turned, and noticed her mother and Todoh standing awkwardly in the living room, looking back at her
Saena mustered some courage and spoke up, saying: welcome home …
Kyoko snapped out of her tired state, noticing subtle things … Todoh's hair was a mess … their clothes were a little wrinkled … and both looked a little pink … shy or embarrassed by this awkward atmosphere
Although not experienced, Kyoko was fairly knowledgeable about what happens between men and women when they get a little frisky … she never watched explicit shows, no … but she could tell that something was going on here before she arrived … she tried to control her expression and said: I'm home...
Saena tried to sound normal, by asking: you look tired!
Kyoko nodded, then said: I'm exhausted …
Saena: you should take a relaxing bath … do you want me to run it for you?
Kyoko waved her hands and said: no, I can handle that … (then speed-walked to the bathroom)
Saena covered her face with one hand, as she sighed nervously
Todoh: sorry …
Saena shook her head and said: it's fine … it's not your fault … I don't think she saw anything
Reassured, Todoh: really?!
Saena nodded, then added: although, I think she put 2 and 2 together given we look awkward
Todoh smiled and asked: do you regret it?
Saena frankly answered: no … I don't! … but we have to be careful next time, so this doesn't happen again …
Todoh raised an eyebrow in surprise but didn't comment
Saena got closer to him and whispered: I think that rule should be abolished, as long as we are more careful to our surroundings
Todoh nodded enthusiastically and smiled cunningly, liking what he was hearing
Saena: you should head home, … I will handle the rest!
Todoh: sure …
Saena: wait! … (she pulled him a little closer to her, and tried to fix his hair)
Todoh chuckled and said: I didn't think of that …
Saena: we were caught off guard! … I don't think either of us thought about it carefully … in any case, … I will try to hold myself from doing that
Todoh: I don't want you to … I like it!
Saena blushed and nodded, then said: oh … I'm glad you do!
Todoh got dangerously close and whispered: I actually love it! … so don't stop, please!
Saena playfully pushed him away and said: go home, pervert!
Todoh chuckled and said: yes Ma'am … I will see you tomorrow
He put his shoes on and opened the door carefully, to not let Remi escape, and said: give Kyoko my congrats … good night!
Saena nodded, then said: good night! … drive safe!
Todoh: I will!
And with that, Todoh left … leaving Saena standing there nervously
Saena was sure that Kyoko didn't see them, but was also sure that Kyoko is smart and was possibly aware that she walked into something inappropriate … she sighed nervously as she sat down and thought about different things
Saena's mind went to a discussion she had with Todoh about cats, and the fact all creatures had their needs … she was no longer afraid of expressing her desires with Todoh because it felt right … and amazing … she was honest when she said she didn't regret it … this was her first time freeing herself to feel things and enjoy them
She had restricted herself to not have fun or enjoying life since that incident happened … that included loving anyone, including her own child … she refused to be touched or comforted … she tried to freeze her heart and make her career her one and only salvation … she didn't mind working for Katagiri like a slave, because she thought it was her only way to redeem herself worthy
She slowly climbed up in her career … things looked brighter for her career-wise… people respected her and sought her help with their legal trouble … yet when she went home she sat there alone, feeling empty and isolated, so she focused on her job … thinking of it as her lifeline
Then came Kyoko … the news of her running away made her feel anger, not only at Kyoko but herself as well …she felt powerless… she knew Kyoko wouldn't approach her after all the rejection she endured … eventually, Kyoko did make some contact, through Todoh. Not even a day later, she saw the man who brought back her trauma, She felt danger, like something was falling out of place … so she focused all her emotions and used anger as her only solution, until Todoh played his cards and got her to speak her mind, calming her and her nerves down, but not before she made a bigger mistake on national TV … then, weeks later, Kyoko appeared, meeting her face to face wanting answers to all her life long questions … which left her a little surprised and impressed, that things went smoothly to some extent
Then again, Kyoko made another contact, this time to get legal consultation, however, she collapsed before they could talk … leaving Saena to feel something new, yet extremely unpleasant … seeing the child she didn't want, suffer in such a way moved something within her … her heart was slowly melting despite trying to freeze it over and over
She finally accepted the fact Kyoko is her child and she needed to be responsible … Kyoko was growing to be a decent woman, and she needed to be there to make sure she didn't make the same mistake she's done in the past
At that point, Saena thought enough changes had happened … she couldn't possibly need anything else … could she?
But then, the return on that man hit her so hard she crumbled … yet Todoh was there for the rescue … he was always there, in the shadows of her mind … walking around trying to get into the light … trying to be seen and noticed … and slowly the shadow was lifting … he was finally seeing the light … no matter how many clouds she hoped would cover that light … but his constant help without any payback was weighing on her conscious
She resisted giving him her heart because she was thankful. After all, it wasn't fair to him … but it was her only way to express herself without exposing the desires inside her heart. His actions melted the ice on her heart … and made her more aware of his feelings and ultimately … made her aware of her own
She no longer come home to an empty apartment, doing nothing but eat, work and sleep … that was no longer enough, not anymore! … her body wanted more than just that … her mind tried to suppress those feelings because it bought back the scars … but her heart knew that this will be different and that it's ok for her to need more … to want more … it was ok for her to love again … and it was ok to enjoy life!
Katagiri gave her the green light, making her feel free, she didn't know if she can ever pay for her mistake, but she knew that he didn't want her to blame herself … she worked so hard, but lived like an empty shell … Todoh's love and Katagiri's words helped her out of it … and allowed her to find a more fitting one … one she could actually fill with happiness and love
She was also very grateful to Kyoko's boss, who talked some sense into her … he encouraged her to look at things differently … and clarified things that she refused to acknowledge in the past … she was able to see her life in a different light and was grateful to everyone who allowed her to get back on her two feet, stronger and more confident than ever
She can finally listen to her desires and seek them, with a man that truly loved her … and wanted her as much as she did … she didn't know if things will keep going well, but was hopeful it would lead her down a healthy relationship that she would benefit from both mentally and physically
Her thoughts were interrupted when Kyoko spoke, asking: Todoh-san left?!
Saena: ah … yes … (she stood up) and said: I'm sorry …
Kyoko: about?!
Saena: well … (she looked down feeling embarrassed, not knowing how to explain herself)
Kyoko smiled and said: I was too tired to notice anything … I'm sorry if I interrupted anything
Saena: don't worry about that …
Kyoko sheepishly suggested: perhaps, … I should text you before coming home, as to avoid possibly awkward situations!
Saena swallowed nervously … then smiled and nodded, saying: that might be a good idea
Kyoko: then I will do that!
Saena: by the way, I got a message from the school about Friday's meeting
Kyoko: ah yes! … are you able to come?
Saena: yes, … I believe I can make it
Kyoko: great! … (she went to her bag and took out her form, then handed it to her mother)
Saena looked at the form for a few seconds before saying: you want to open a restaurant in the future?
Kyoko: maybe …
Saena: well, I don't think it's a bad idea, … you did amazingly tonight! … we watched the show and are pleased by your achievement!
Kyoko: you did!? … thank you! … I'm glad I managed to cook well tonight!
Saena: I never doubted you could win, because you performed brilliantly … you didn't let the time intimidate you! … I'm proud of you!
Kyoko smiled sheepishly and bowed happily
Saena: you don't need to bow … (she came close and hugged Kyoko) saying: no need to be formal with me … from now, I would like you to express your feelings freely! … I'm sorry I restricted you from doing so in the past, and I want to make it up to you
Kyoko teared up happily with new progress … her mother was more affectionate and comfortable hugging her, … which made Kyoko elated by the progress
Saena brought a pen and signed the form, agreeing with Kyoko's choices
Nervous, Kyoko asked: are you ok with me not attending University?
Saena: well … you're already working on your career and although I know some schools do offer programs that might be helpful … it might take time away from your work … You already took classes in the acting school and are doing just fine … so I don't think attending higher education is a must … it's never late to change your mind, but that's only if you want to! … don't stress about it because I won't push you to do anything against your will!
Kyoko: thank you!
Saena: you go out there and do your very best, and you can make your dream come true! … I'm sure of it! … so, do whatever you see fit, and I will support you no matter what!
Kyoko nodded, hugging her mother happily
She then put away her paper and said: we should head to bed … I don't think I can remain awake any longer!
Saena: sure
They both got into bed … closing the light and trying to get comfortable … Remi joined them … sleeping between them
Saena: I'm not sure if I mentioned this … but Todoh wanted to congratulate you!
Kyoko: ah … thank you for watching and supporting me! … I will thank him tomorrow!
Saena: say, that guy, … did he approach you after the show?
Kyoko: who?
Saena: the second competitor … wasn't his name Genji or something? … I'm not sure!
Kyoko: ah yes, … but I rejected his advance, and Yashiro stayed with me, so I'm fine!
Saena: ok, great! … but if he ever bothers you again, let me know … he's in no position to mess with you!
Kyoko chuckled then said: yes … Yashiro used "her mother is a lawyer" on him …
Surprised, Saena asked: really? … did that have any effect
Kyoko: I don't remember how effective, …I'm … just … (she fell asleep)
Saena sighed and covered Kyoko properly then said: good night!
She heard Kyoko mumble something, but didn't catch on … so she just closed her eye and tried to sleep … she was thankful Kyoko didn't talk about what she saw and even suggested a warning text, which made her feel impressed, to say the least … Kyoko was indeed a grown woman and she handled the awkward situation professionally
(The Rest of the week)
Work went smoothly for the rest of the week
Saena told Todoh about Kyoko's plan to text, which made them both feel more comfortable expressing their desires in either of their apartments … and Kyoko stayed true to her suggestion, texting her mother 15 minutes before she arrived home each time
On Friday, Saena came to Kyoko's school and met with her teacher and counselor … they talked about Kyoko's current career progress and her future plans
They did bring up going to university, which Kyoko dismissed, hoping to focus on her career that is growing steadily but surely
The teacher did wonder if Kyoko was ever interested in becoming a lawyer like her mother, and Kyoko felt unsure about how to answer the question, but her mother said that there is no pressure for Kyoko to follow her career path and that Kyoko can do what she sees fit for her life and future
The teachers were impressed because they assumed Saena would be stricter with Kyoko's career choice, and feared Kyoko might alter her path for her mother's sake, but it was the opposite, which was great, yet still unexpected
Kyoko went back to class and joined her friends, after bidding her mother goodbye
Kyoko was glad she was in a good position in her life and wanted to enjoy her final year of high school with her friends … so they went out to eat some crepes after school ended … and walked to a nearby park
Yashiro came to pick her up, and noticed that one of her male friends seem to be showing signs that he was interested in her … which worried him … he was glad Ren wasn't with them because he knew Ren would freak out
Surprisingly, although Kyoko rejected the guy on the show flatly … she seemed oblivious to her male friend's interest in her … dismissing the idea when Yashiro brought it up, telling him that they are just friends, and nothing will ever happen between them
Unknowing to Yashiro, Kyoko has already made up her mind about pursuing a romantic relationship with Ren/Kuon in the future, knowing about his feelings, that he freely expressing around her when they are alone together … she had no time to think about other guys, even if they showed interest in her now or in the future
Yashiro felt relieved and hoped that Ren would finally man up and confess, so he can secure Kyoko for himself … because he was a true believer those two belonged together and wanted to see their relationship flourish
He knew Ren had to wait no matter what, but thought that Ren's feelings can help Kyoko understand how much she mattered to him … and although he knew things seem to have changed between them, he didn't expect a confession just yet
Kyoko went to her commercial shooting and did a great job at it, she got to finish early and go home … she and her mother cooked dinner, with Todoh joining them after he finished meeting with a client.
The three sat together to eat and chatted a little before Todoh left … after bidding them good night
(Saturday)
Kyoko woke up early as usual and cooked a nice breakfast
She and her mother sat together to eat, then they went out to nearby stores to do some shopping
Saena's apartment was located in a good location, where it was close to a train station, which they took to a mall
Saena and Kyoko entered a clothing store, and they both walked around to look for nice clothes … Kyoko picked up a blue creamy colored top, and showed it to her mother, how liked the color, but not the design
Kyoko tried again, bringing a light blue top, with a different, more conservative design, which Saena liked
Kyoko: do you want to try it?
Saena: I'm not sure I'm comfortable changing here ...
Kyoko: let's look for a skirt that works well with this, then you can try them on!
Saena: ok
Kyoko found a nice wavy skirt that was navy in color … so she rushed back to her mother and showed her mother
Saena smiled and said: thank you … that should go well together!
Kyoko: ok! … let's go … you should try them!
Saena: perhaps we should pick more things, then try them all at once?
Kyoko: great idea!
Saena: you should get something too … what do you think of this (she showed her a nice dress that Kyoko can wear on a hot summer day)
Kyoko liked it a lot, so she took it and held it while she looked for other things
In the end, they both found clothes for each other
After picking 5-6 different outfits, they both went to try them on … and they all looked great on them
They both picked up outfits that they can mix and match, so they had almost 8-11 different ways to wear them, which was great
Saena took all of the outfits, and she went to register to pay … Kyoko stood behind her mother nervously as she watched the amount they had to pay kept going up every time the worker scanned a piece
However, Saena casually paid for them and took the bags, without caring too much
Kyoko helped with the bags … she then suggested they did enough shopping
Saena: you want to go home already?
Kyoko: I mean, … we spent a lot on those …
Saena: don't you worry about the expenses … why don't we check that store next
Kyoko nodded … she was grateful her mother wasn't into high-end stores … and that they shopped at average stores where things aren't too pricy
They bought another 2-3 outfits, before taking a small lunch break at an outdoor café … they both sat down with a small drink and a slice of cake
Saena: how do you like yours?
Kyoko: it's great … this is my first time trying a Tiramisu … I like the coffee taste and this crème! … I need to try to make this one day!
Saena nodded while smiling happily
Kyoko: what about you?
Saena: it's good … I feel like you can't really go wrong with Chocolate
Kyoko said: indeed! … if you like chocolate, then you will probably like anything made with it unless it's mixed with something you don't like
Saena: that's right … this one is good, it's just a simple chocolate cake
Kyoko: have you had Tiramisu before?
Saena: I don't think so?
Kyoko: because you don't like coffee?
Saena: well, I don't hate coffee, … I just never considered it an option, because there is always something else I prefer to eat
Kyoko: do you want to try it?
Saena: sure … I don't mind …. (she tastes the Tiramisu and nods her head in approval)
Kyoko: you like it?
Saena: it's not too sweet, which is a plus … I would get it next time
Kyoko was offered to taste her mother's cake, so she tasted it and then said: it's not heavy at all … I like how fluffy the crème is … and the cake is moist but rich in flavor … great choice!
Saena smiled and then said: I like this …
Kyoko: yes! … the cake is amazing!
Saena shook her head, then said: I like that we're sitting here eating sweets together, after doing some shopping … I enjoyed this!
Kyoko felt similarly so she said: me too! … I hope we can do this again in the near future!
Saena: we sure can!
So, they finished their drinks and cake, then they got up, and shopped at one more store before heading home for the day
They went out to eat dinner with Todoh, and this time, a lot of people recognized Kyoko when she walked into the restaurant
They went to a Kyoto-style restaurant, and the owners had watched the cooking show Kyoko appeared in … and they were so impressed, they put up posters of Kyoko on their wall … which shocked Kyoko a lot
She smiled sheepishly and thanked the owners for their support
The waitress (the owner's daughter) came and complimented Kyoko, declaring she is a fan, and that she will support her and cheer her on the upcoming competition, which made Kyoko very happy and grateful
Saena and Todoh were happy Kyoko is being recognized for her great work, and they celebrated her win, by ordering food that Kyoko loved eating
They enjoyed their meal and when they tried to pay, the owners refused, telling them the meal is on the house, as they loved Kyoko's performance and representation of their Kyoto culture and cuisine
Sunday went by quietly … Kyoko got enough rest and was able to catch up with all her studies … she spent some more quality time with her mother, before meeting with Chiori and Momose-san and having a late lunch together … they went the Karaoke together for an hour or so … before heading back home to cook dinner and relax before the start of a new week
(Monday)
Kyoko went to reshoot some of her last Momiji scenes, as they wanted to add more scenes of her walking alone at night … they had her do some voice over as her thoughts are being conveyed to the audience
She then went to her commercial shoot, to shoot the last bit of scenes they decided to add last minute
On the other side, Ren had a very busy morning … going from his interview, then to his commercial shoot … then doing some photoshoots for a fashion magazine
He sat down at lunch and wondered when he would be able to see Kyoko again
Yashiro called him to inform him his movie shooting was canceled for the day, because of scheduling issues … so he decided to meet up with Yashiro at the Agency, hoping to catch up with Kyoko there
(In the Courthouse)
Saena and Todoh stood in front of a judge and presented all the evidence that they have been carefully collecting and documenting with the help of Satoshi, and Katagiri-san
They sought an injunction before a full trial, as it was important for them to remedy the damage done by Nanami before it was too late
Saena presented the emails from her clients who didn't want to work with her anymore as proof of damage to her reputation and were easily able to prove that Nanami did that out of malice against Saena
The judge granted the injunction, ordering Nanami to come out and declare that everything she said was false, even if there was some truth to what she said
Akemi Nakano was contacted, and she delivered the orders to her client, before ending her contract with them as she is no longer needed in their case.
(In the Grand-Jewel Hotel)
Yasushi thanked Nakano one more time, before closing the door, and looking at his wife angrily
Nanami: stop looking at me like that!
Yasushi ignored her and said: get your statement ready!
Nanami: I'm not going to do that!
Furious, Yasushi: what did you just say!?
Nanami looked away and repeated: I'm not doing it! … I won't be ordered around by her!
Yasushi: this is not an order from her! … this is an order from the court! … If you don't comply, you will be held in contempt of court!
Nanami: she asked the court for that!
Yasushi: as she should! … you tried to ruin her reputation!
Nanami: but she's fine, she's still practicing law … and is trying to hurt me using it!
Yasushi looked at his wife with absolute disgust, then said: if I hear more of this crap your spewing, I will legally sever my relationship with you! … I might hate divorce and was raised to not accept it … but I don't want to be tied down to someone like you!
Nanami: are you being serious?! …. First Kioshi and now you?! … who will stay by my side?!
Yasushi: maybe you should think of your actions and repent, maybe then I will reconsider!
Nanami: you can't do this to me! … not because of her!
Yasushi slammed his hand on the table and said: enough! … I'm doing this because I don't like to be stuck with someone who is delusional and hurts others for their own gain … I overlooked your actions once before, and I regret that now … but I'm not going to stay quiet … you will either listen to the orders or it will be over between us!
Nanami: Honey! … why are you on her side!? … I'm your wife last I checked!
Yasushi: I'm on the side of the truth … I have always been, … why do you think I got really upset with Kioshi when I learned what he did and kicked him out of the company?! … do you think it was a joke?!
Nanami: I told you that you were being cruel! … he was only trying to help!
Yasushi: not at the expense of others … that woman suffered enough because of your conspiracy against her!
Nanami: what suffering?! … she still has a job, and she brainwashed her child to hate her own father!
Yasushi: again, if Anna is not the mother, then she's not our grandchild … I don't want you opening that subject ever again!
Nanami clenched her fest in anger … she didn't like the fact she couldn't take Kyoko and boost to her friends that her granddaughter is a celebrity
Yasushi: and who said she kept her job?! … she was fired for what happened, along with Katagiri, her boss, and the rest of their team!
Nanami didn't really care about what happened to Saena, but at the same time she comments: so, that's why that guy treats me badly … how rude!
Yasushi: are you even listening to yourself!? … how can you be so heartless!
Nanami: how can you call me heartless … I loved you all my life … and I love our son and grandchildren … you just don't understand me!
Yasushi: no! … you just love yourself … if you loved me, you would have respected my words, if you loved Kioshi, you wouldn't throw him under the bus for your own actions and lastly, you wouldn't do that to people who did no harm to you! … you only want that girl for your own gain among your circle of friends … a bunch of gold-diggers who are only good at bragging!
Offended, Nanami: how could you!?
Yasushi: I've lived with you long enough to know how you act … and don't think I'm a fool who doesn't understand how cunning you can be … I just turn the other way because I hate problems and arguments … because I know you won't listen to me anyway!
Nanami: when did I ever disobey you?!
Yasushi: really? … where do I start?! … you think you can fool me?!
Nanami: if you had any issues, you should've raised them before … isn't it too late now?!
Yasushi: I should've indeed! … but, If I did then, I wouldn't have married you, to begin with!
Confused, Nanami asked: what do you mean by that?!
Yasushi: I only said yes, because my father forced our marriage … it was for the benefit of our business, and not because I loved you or found you pleasant … the reason I let you do as you wanted, is because I hate causing problems … so I bought you gifts and spoiled you, so I don't have to deal with you and your problematic behavior!
Nanami was shell-shocked hearing that … she knew that their marriage was arranged by their parents, but she always thought Yasushi loved her enough to marry her and spoil her … she didn't know that he only spoiled her, so she doesn't bother him
Yasushi: I know you're a spoiled brat who always got what she wanted, so I kept it that way, so I wouldn't hear your complaints! … I should've drawn the line earlier because now you think you are always right and are always the victim when you don't get your way … even therapy might not help you with your superiority complex! …
Upset, Nanami: so now you show your true feelings? … now you tell me that you never actually like me?!
Yasushi: we both knew this was arranged, no surprise there! … I'm just fed up with you playing with people and hurting them for your own bragging game! … you know that if you win that stupid game of yours, all your actions will still have an effect on the people you hurt!
Nanami cried: this isn't a game!
Yasushi: then what is it?! … tell me?! … your status?! … like that will change anything? … it really doesn't matter who you are, if your end goal ends up hurting people! … a king will fall if he mistreats his people … and a poor person will never be blessed if they tried to trick people for their own gain! … bad people always lose in the end!
Nanami: so now I'm bad?!
Yasushi: what do you think?! … tell me?! … when you assault people, spied on them, and spread lies about them, does that make you an angel?!
Nanami looked down understanding her husband's point … she wasn't really regretful but at the same time she did know that her actions were bad
She thought for a short while before saying: I can explain!
Yasushi: no reason is enough to justify your cruel actions! … so here is my proposal, you go out and do as I say, or you will get back to the US, pack your bags and leave!
Nanami: you know you have to give me half your fortune if you divorce me!
Yasushi: no, you signed a prenup as a part of the arranged marriage … I won't take your assets, as you have none anyway … you only have your inheritance since your father's business went bankrupt shortly after his death … and you did nothing to save it … and you won't take anything from me, because that's how this marriage was arranged … you gain nothing from a divorce which is what my father planned as a deterrent against divorce!
Nanami: where am I supposed to go then?!
Yasushi: so, you made up your mind?!
Nanami: NO! … I'm just weighing my options! … where am I supposed to go if you leave me?!
Yasushi: I don't know, and don't care either … you either choose to apologize and pay for your actions or you're going to be on your own!
Nanami: you promised my father that you will care for me!
Yasushi: choose!
Nanami: is there any other option?!
Yasushi: if you don't answer me, then I take that you want to go your own way … you have 5 minutes to decide!
Nanami feared being left alone and losing everything … she clenched her fist in defeat and said: I will listen to you!
Yasushi: good choice! … I hope this will be the beginning of you repenting for real! … were going to start with recording a video of your apologizing as practice … and it must be sincere … you will record it until I see how sincere you truly are!
Outraged, Nanami: WAIT WHAT?!
