I'm so very sorry about the delay for posting … I haven't been writing much recently, and this chapter was written quite a while ago (around Feb. & March), in fact most of the chapters I posted this year were written before Feb. this year … I was very busy with School and recently did the Inktober challenge with my artist friends.
I hope you understand that I won't change anything because some events lead to more events, so I apologize for any discomfort … even I cringe about it sometimes … I hear you readers, and I will try to be more actively writing in the future.
Chapter 47: Gossip Hour
(The Next Day – Katagiri's Office)
Yasushi came to meet Katagiri, Todoh, and Saena, to confirm with them regarding the statement his wife was supposed to go live with
Saena read the statement and found it sufficient, however, she wasn't really sure Nanami would be honest enough to read it as it is … she felt like she could trust Yasushi, but couldn't bring herself to trust his wife to would be this submissive
Todoh: what do you think?
Katagiri: I went over it, and I thought it was great!
Saena: well, I think it would do … I'm just unsure if she would comply … I can't help but doubt her … I'm sorry, but I can't trust her
Yasushi: sure, you don't have to trust her … I understand! … that's why I put in a backup plan … if she was to not read this as agreed upon, I will take over and expose what happened in the past
Saena: are you sure that's a good idea? … I understand that this may be a preventive measure, but … exposing the past might bring up more trouble for yourself and your family
Todoh: Kyoko-chan deliberately kept your family name and what happened privately to not cause issues for your grandkids … going public will just expose everything
Katagiri: might I add, it can bring the whole situation to the attention of the people who lost the case, and it will lead to outrage … it will undo the whole cover-up efforts
Yasushi: the cover-up was a mistake, to begin with, it shouldn't have happened … I understand that it might cause us more trouble, but if she chose to go off the script we agreed on, then she will have to deal with the consequences
Saena: Even if your grandsons might be effects by this?
Yasushi: I'm grateful for your thoughtfulness, I understand the damage it could cause, however, If I must do it, then I will … regardless, I think the boys will return to the US and anything that goes on here won't affect them as much when they are back home
Saena: I see … If you see that as fitting, then do as needed … thank you for all your help with this
Yasushi: I haven't done much really … you deserve better than this, but I'm sorry that's all I can offer … I should've been more involved in that case, which might have prevented the whole incident from happening … I'm really sorry for my shortsightedness
Katagiri: We can't undo what happened in the past, so we shouldn't dwell on it … sure we might have our regrets, but we learn from them and try to become better going forward
Yasushi: your right … so as long as you agree with this, we can go forward!
Saena: I agree
Todoh: likewise
Katagiri: alright then, I will contact Takarada-San and plan this thing out!
Yasushi: great! … thank you! … Mogami-san, I will make sure your reputation is restored fully with this … I will do my best to ensure everyone stays in line … you and your daughter should be left alone, to live a happy and peaceful life!
Saena: Thank you for all your efforts
Katagiri: alright, you two can go back to work, … I will plan the rest myself
With that Todoh and Saena bowed and left, returning back to work … while Katagiri sat with Yasushi for some time to get all the details agreed upon before contacting Takarada with the plan.
(At the Tennis court)
Kyoko, Momose, and Kazumi met after getting into their customs for the tennis scenes shooting
The director left the cast and went out of the school ground where they were shooting … he then returned a few minutes later with a tall handsome man
Momose: isn't that Tsuraga-san?!
Kazumi: I believe so … so he agreed!
Momose smiled and nodded happily
Kyoko who was checking her stuff, looked back to see Ren joining them, which made her shocked and confused, however, Yashiro wasn't next to her, which made her unable to ask him what was going on
Kyoko ran to Momose and Kazumi and asked them instead: Why is he here?
Kazumi: why else?!
Momose: He's here to film with us!
Kyoko: since when!? … I never heard about this!
Kazumi: you don't want him to join?!
Kyoko: it's not like that … it's just … isn't he busy with his own movie?
Kazumi: perhaps he had some time, so he agreed to join!
Kyoko: you asked him to join?!
Kazumi: no, I asked the director to see if he can join … because you two played great with one another!
Kyoko: I'm grateful you think so … but … Tsuraga-san is … well … he shouldn't be playing such a minor role … he's
Ren: playing a minor role is not a problem! … I only agreed because I get to play with you … and because I was free
Kyoko flushed in red as Ren smiled cunningly … he then said: not many people will know I'm in this movie anyway…
Kyoko refuted him saying: people can tell it's you!
Ren: not if I change how I look … besides, I won't do much … so no worries!
Kyoko: so, you're not going to be mentioned?
Yashiro: he will … in the fine print … so if no one reads all the names of the extras… they won't know it's him
Kyoko: but!
Yashiro: smile Kyoko-chan! … let's go … you need to get ready!
Ren waved to Kyoko as he walked away leaving her unsure of this whole situation
Kazumi: Relax! … he's doing it because he wants to … no one forced him
Kyoko: I know … it's just … I'm not saying this movie is bad or anything … it's just, I hold him in such high regard, so seeing him film as an extra is shocking
Momose: but it shows you something right?!
Kyoko: what do you mean?!
Kazumi: He wants to spend time with you! … just like I told you before! … He's serious about you!
Momose: don't worry too much! … I'm sure it will all work well!
Kyoko nodded … she then turned around to get her tennis racket … when an elated smile crept on her lips … she was overjoyed with the fact Ren wanted to be with her just as much as she did … and that she could see him and work with him this soon again
Kazumi: Do you think she's upset?
Momose: no … she's just confused and unsure how to express how happy she is to see him … she might still be in denial
Kazumi: isn't that bad?
Momose: nope … look at her … she's smiling
Kazumi: so, you think she's trying to control herself from expressing it?
Momose: highly possible … I think that she still needs time to accept it, but she will eventually!
Kazumi: I kind of feel bad for him
Momose chuckled as she said: likewise!
So, when Ren got ready, he joined everyone … he was introduced to the staff as an extra, and Kyoko's tennis partner … and then it was time to film
Kazumi as Natsuki and Momose as Miwako was filmed playing mixed doubles with some other couple … at the same time, Kyoko as Tamayo played singles against Ren's character Naoki
After filming a few scenes together, the director and scriptwriter met and decided to add another two short scenes before the final scene was filmed
The first one showed Tamayo feeling out of breath and nearly collapsing, with Naoki going to her and checking on her … she begs him to hide the incident from the coach and her best friends, with him reluctantly agreeing
The second scene is when Naoki learns that Tamayo isn't joining them for the Tennis Competition they have been training, for month
**~The scene~**
Naoki saw the list of the people joining the competition, and checked his name … then noticed that Natsuki and Miwako were on the list for the mixed doubles, … but he didn't see Tamayo's name anywhere … so he asked the coach who said he couldn't really answer him … so he found Tamayo near the tennis court changing room
Tamayo: you're here for training?
Naoki: no! … I'm here to talk to you! … why aren't you on the list?!
Tamayo: what list!
Naoki: Tamayo … are you not joining us for the competition?! … we trained together for a long time, so this doesn't make sense
Tamayo: I'm sorry …
Naoki: don't do this! … you can't drop out so suddenly! … you can win it! … you can win it all! … I know it!
Tamayo: which is why this is so heartbreaking …
Naoki: did the coach learn about that incident?!
Tamayo: I told him that I couldn't play anymore …
Naoki: wait?! … did you go to the doctor to check what's going on?!

Naoki: what's going on?! … can't you tell me?! … I won't tell anyone if you wish me to keep it to myself!
Tamayo: all I'm going to say is that I'm really sick … and this illness will make it harder for me to play … I can hardly breathe normally as I am standing here …
Naoki: you're going to get treated, right?!
Tamayo: I'm planning to …
Naoki: so, this is it? … no more tennis for us?!
Tamayo: I'm sorry … I really didn't want things to get this bad … but I can't control it …
Naoki: alright then! … I will play my best and win it on your behalf! … I didn't train with you all those hours to see you go down like this … I will show this illness of yours that you made me a great player and that I will win this for the both of us! … I will play … and you will fight, so you can play with us once more! … deal?!
Tamayo smiled sadly and nodded, saying: thank you for saying that! … if I can manage to get treated … I promise you one more game!
Naoki: deal!
Tamayo: but please, … don't tell them anything!
Naoki: how are you going to explain it to them then …
Tamayo: I want to spend more time with my maternal grandparents …
Naoki: I see … alright then!
Tamayo: Thank you … and good luck! … I know you can win it!
Naoki: thank you!
The last scene they filmed was Tamayo leaving the club with all her things, while the Tennis club coach rounded all the members and told them about Tamayo's departure
Everyone but Naoki were shocked, … making Natsuki and Miwako feel really surprised and unsure why their best friend was dropping everything and leaving.
Tamayo walked away after watching everyone get back to training … she stopped as she felt her tears threatening to fall … she tried to speed walk away, resisting the sadness that filled her heart … however, she couldn't bottle her feelings any longer and gave in, as she slumped down near the school gate and her tears burst out like waterfalls
Naoki excused himself from training, and ran to look for Tamayo wanting to give her a good luck charm that he got for her but missed the chance to gift it to her … he found her crying behind a tree, and watched her as she sobbed in pain of losing her ability to play with her friends in the upcoming championship
Naoki was able to approach her at some point, he cheered her up and gave her the charm, promising to win it all in her honor, while she is seeking treatment … He told her that they would always be good friends and will be available to play with her again when she's back
After all the scenes were filmed, Kyoko bid everyone goodbye and she left with Ren and Yashiro
She was going to see them again in the airport heading to Okinawa … where they will film some important parts for the movie
They were doing to film the last scene in Tokyo after the Okinawa trip, as they wanted to film everything in sequence, so all the emotion would be real and raw.
(In Yashiro's car)
Ren: that was great!
Kyoko: I'm grateful that you joined the filming … it made the tennis scene run smoothly … I really wasn't sure if I can play this well against someone else
Yashiro: I'm sure you've done just fine, … but I agree! … You two play together flawlessly!
Ren: I had some much fun, that I didn't feel like I was filming
Kyoko: true! … it almost felt like we were just playing for fun … they didn't stop us or tell us to do anything specific other than before we started
Yashiro: you two did great! … I'm looking forward to the release of this movie
Kyoko: well … I'm excited, although I know the next scene will be extremely difficult
Yashiro: understandable … it's a heartbreaking story … but I think it's a great one overall!
Ren: I wish you all the luck with the rest of the filming!
Kyoko: Thank you … say … I have one question
Ren: you can just ask me anything!
Kyoko: well … is it ok for me to tell Moko-san about … well … that mission?
Yashiro was surprised by the question, but kept his mouth shut … he knew the three girls debated on the fact they thought Kyoko was Setsu, and he hadn't confirmed it to them, but he assumed the Kanae would ask Kyoko about it eventually
Ren: I think it's fine if you tell her … she probably heard about our characters if she's keeping up with the showbiz news
Kyoko: well, she did ask me about it … and I would feel terrible about lying about it
Ren: you can be honest with her … she's your friend and I'm sure she'll keep your secret!
Kyoko: so, I won't break any rules?
Ren: I don't think there are any to break … you are free to tell whoever you want … I'm sure about it … so don't stress too much

Yashiro: so, should we stop for lunch before taking you home, Kyoko-chan?
Kyoko: actually, I'm planning to go to the Karaoke …
Yashiro: eh? … why?!
Kyoko: well … Moko-san and I like to talk there … so that's why I'm going
Yashiro: I see … so when do you want to go?
Kyoko looked at her phone, then said: maybe now?
(Takarada's office)
Lory was sitting down as he finalized that plan, he and Katagiri-san spoke about earlier that day
Ruto came in with a box and said: you have a package
Lory put down his papers and said: this fast?
Ruto: I assume they sent it the moment we requested it
Lory: well, … let's see what we have here
He opened the package a found a few old DVR tapes … so he picked out one randomly and said: can you get me something to play this with? … I'm sure I have a DVR player somewhere
Ruto answered: yes sir!
(At the Karaoke)
Yashiro dropped Kyoko off after they got a light lunch at a nearby family restaurant
Kyoko got a room and entered it … then texted Kanae that she was at the Karaoke, ready to talk
Kanae texted her to wait 5 minutes to get settled after getting back from her set
5 minutes later … she called
Kanae: hey …
Kyoko: Moko-san … it's great to talk to you again, this soon!
Kanae: sure is … I have a lot of questions, and I would prefer if we resumed where our conversation stopped last night!
Kyoko: how mean! … you just want to hear some details no matter how embarrassing it may be for me!
Kanae: well, I don't really know what I'm going to hear, so you can't say that … but at the same time, tell me everything! … I want all the juicy details!
Kyoko: what kind of juicy details?! … maybe we should talk about your work first or something
Kanae: my work is going well … nothing worthy to report as of today at least … so now we can get back to the topic
Kyoko: it almost feels like you are more eager than I am when it comes to that topic
Kanae: sure, because it seems like you have something to hide!
Defensive, Kyoko asked: like what?!
Kanae: how you managed to live with the man you love under the same roof without doing anything … surely something happened at some point!
Kyoko: all of it was acting!
Kanae: without a script, right!?
Kyoko: how in the world did you know that?!
Kanae: because Setsu wasn't a movie role, … unless the president is an insane pervert who has time to write a script for you two to act out …
Kyoko: I know he's weird, but he's not going to go that far … indeed, we didn't have a script … I was acting like a substitute manager in disguise if you will!
Doubtful, Kanae: right! … and one that is insanely obsessed with her brother at that … come on!
Kyoko: what exactly did you hear?!
Kanae: just tell me what I want to hear! … other than hand-holding, hugging, and being extra weirdly close … wait! … right! … that hickey!
Kyoko dropped the phone as she shrieked in terror … she couldn't think of a possible way to explain that incident … because she did believe it was connected to Kuon taking over …
Kanae: hey … are you still there?!
Kyoko picked up the phone, trying to compose herself … her face was so red, but she was glad Kanae wasn't present to see her like that and tease her about it …
Kanae: let me ask you this … did he make you do it? … or you had nothing to do with it?
Kyoko: …
Kanae: silence will only convince me that you, of all people … did it yourself!
Kyoko shyly explained: in my defense, it was acting …
Kanae: acting?! … so, you acted without a script, yet your character is the kind of person who would do that to her own brother?!
Kyoko: it's complicated, I'm not sure how to explain it … besides, … I did a bad job anyways since I had no idea how to do one, so …
Kanae: what did you do then?
Kyoko: well …. I kind of …. bit him
Finding it funny, Kanae exploded into laughter
Kyoko complained: you don't know how hard it was for me to stay in character after doing that …
Kanae: I would imagine … how did you manage?!
Kyoko: well, if it was the normal me, I would have run away and disappeared off the face of the earth, … I needed to stay in character for my own sanity!
Kanae: I can hardly visualize the situation …
Firm Kyoko demanded: just don't!
Kanae: so, what led to such thing happening? … I know that you two were playing siblings that were in love or something … couldn't you just do the hand-holding and hug … did you need to go that far?!
Kyoko didn't know how to explain things, so she tried to remember something she could use to explain it, without mentioning Kuon
Kanae: speak up … you're worrying me!
Kyoko: well, … you can blame Sho … for that!
Kanae: What?! … how did he get into the whole mix?! … did he meet you as the sister?!
Kyoko: no … I met him before returning to being Setsu … and Tsuraga-san saw us together … I tried to send a text explaining why I was with him …
Kanae: pause! … I never heard of this! … so did you meet that jerk regularly?!
Kyoko firmly explained with a hint of annoyance: No! … He was the one who ambushed me at my school and kidnapped me … he was angry at me because to him I wasn't focusing on my goal to beat him … so he wanted to set the record straight of something
Annoyed, Kanae questioned: why does he care?!
Kyoko: beats me!
Concerned, Kanae: is he stalking you?!
Kyoko: not really … I think he was talking about the fact that Kijima-san dressed me up for the Dark Moon party … he was upset about that
Kanae faced palmed herself in agony … thinking (that guy likes her too?! yet he dared to hurt her and treat her so bad?! … what the hell is wrong with him?! … they were raised together, yet he turned out to be a bastard while Kyoko turned out to be the good one … how is that even possible?!)
Kanae: ok … so, what did Tsuraga-san replay with?
Kyoko: nothing … he didn't reply … so I was a nervous wreck leading up to going back to being Setsu …
Kanae: so, you had no contact with him since he saw you with that jerk?!
Kyoko: yeah … so when I got to our room, I got into character because I couldn't bring myself to face him … well, that's not true … we were always in character even when we were alone anyway …
Kanae: so, you were in character, but he wasn't?!
Kyoko: he was … but then … that jerk called me … I had forgotten to silence my phone, so when Tsuraga-san saw my phone, he snapped …
Kanae: don't tell me! … you saved his number?!
Defensive, Kyoko explained: No, I didn't … but he was the only one who called me without caller ID since the agency and Tsuraga-san got caller ID … Tsuraga-san knew right away that it was him, because of the way I acted … I think …
Kanae: so, he snapped?! … what the hell did he do to you?!
Kyoko: he just broke out of character and started asking me questions about why someone like him would call me around 1 am … so I used Setsu to control the situation, but it backfired!
Kanae: so, he didn't do anything other than questioning you about it, yet you ….
Kyoko: well, it was more than just that, but it's not a big deal, … I just needed to snap him back to our roles, so I said a few things, and … one thing led to another, then that happened
Kanae: what exactly led to you biting him like a vampire?!
Kyoko: Moko-san! … I wasn't trying to bite … I just didn't know how to do it!
Kanae: but how did you go from calming the guy to doing a hickey?! … that doesn't make sense to me!
Kyoko: well, I had to assure "my brother" … I had to assure Cain that he is the only man I cared about … as Setsu!
Kanae: sure, keep saying otherwise … I'm not falling for that! … you already told me that you liked him!
Kyoko: I know … but that was before I did!
Kanae: before you told me, or before you liked him?!
Kyoko: why not both?
Doubtful, Kanae: hmm … ok … then what happened?
Kyoko: well, "Setsu" saw the lipstick mark on his forehead, so she laughed … and then ... she sort of jokingly asked him about putting a permanent mark on him, and he said he did want that because it would be proof that he's mine … something like that …
Kanae: wow! … just WOW! … ok … so then you bit him instead?!
Kyoko: I already told you, I didn't know how it was done! … I didn't have any examples, and I couldn't just stop there! … my pride as an actress was on the line!
Kanae: and how did you explain that to him?
Kyoko: well, it was a mark for others to see, so I thought I should sink my teeth … but he told me it was wrong and told me the right way to do it! … I was supposed to do two … one for everyone to see, and one for only him … but I did both on the same spot …
Kanae: and where is that?!
Kyoko: on his neck
Kanae: so, he had a hickey along with teeth marks on his neck … (she chuckled) then said: how did things end there?
Kyoko: oh! … he wanted to give me one too, but I got pissed because I didn't want him to teach me how he did it on others … since Setsu is a possessive sister over her brother, she wouldn't accept that
Excited, Kanae: I would have loved to see that! … was he disappointed?
Kyoko: well, I said that since I was no match for him, I would go get some practice, jokingly! … and he didn't allow it … so I just took a shower, while he got us breakfast for tomorrow …
Kanae: well, I wouldn't imagine you actually going to other guys to practice that!
Kyoko: NEVER!
Kanae: as expected … so things ended there?!
Kyoko: yes, … the next day I was so mentally exhausted I debated running away to a different country … but I didn't have money or a passport, so I was stuck there …
Curious, Kanae: so, did you hate that role?!
Kyoko: No … I enjoyed it, for the most part … because I got to act alongside Tsuraga-san
Kanae: you did that in Dark moon!
Kyoko: I know … it's just different!
Kanae: and you two held hands in public, hugged, and … what else?!
Kyoko: that's all that …. (She then paused remembering the shower walk-ins)
Kanae: really?! … then why did you pause?!
Kyoko: It's embarrassing Moko-san! … I'm going to die!
Kanae demanded: what else happened?!
Kyoko: nothing much … just … Setsu had a habit of walking into the shower when her brother took too long …
Stunned, Kanae shouted: YOU WHAT?!
Kyoko bashfully deflected: it was Setsu!
Curious and shy, Kanae asked: and you! … did you see him … like … naked and all?!
Kyoko: I didn't look everywhere … I kept staring at his face … because if I looked anywhere else, I would be doomed for life!
Kanae whispered under her breath: I don't think he would mind …
Panicky, Kyoko: I HEARD YOU! …. And maybe you are right! … but I couldn't be caught dead looking at his body like that!
Kanae: even as your character, who's deathly in love with her brother?!
Kyoko: it's not deathly … it's dangerously ….
Kanae: same thing!
Kyoko whispered: well … I do regret it …
Kanae smiled widely then said: I mean, you still have a chance ….
Confused, Kyoko: what do you mean?!
Kanae: if that dude is in love with you, … then one day you might be able to see him fully … undressed … but that's only if you open your heart to him … I know you like him, but are you ready to take that relationship to the next level?
Kyoko turned red in an instant … she knew Kanae was right, … she then said: I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet … although, I did make up my mind to … pursue him … as long as he's willing to wait for my answer
Kanae: oh! … he will! … I'm willing on betting all my money on that, too!
Kyoko: how are you that sure when you don't even interact with him that much?
Kanae: oh, it was crystal clear! … since you told me that he got upset with you over that jerk, I had an inkling that he had feelings for you … and the more I learn, the more I'm sure … it's the little things that matter … and let's not forget your birthday gift!
Kyoko: it was a rose! … while yours was …
Kanae cut her off saying: frankly … I didn't even know it was your birthday … but he did! … and it wasn't just rose! … wasn't your queen Rosa in there! … I won't judge you for believing that legend … but I have a feeling that he planned the whole thing, legend or not!
Kyoko: in my defense, I wasn't aware he knew it was my birthday … he told me that the president told him!
Kanae: sure! … our president has been promoted to an extreme personality in my books! … does he like to toy with you two that much!?
Kyoko: I'm not sure … I know he has his motives … but he doesn't do it out of boredom, he surely cares to some extent …
Kanae: cares to be entertained using us … or more like using you two as his toys! … to think he put you, the number one member of our section as Setsu is extremely amusing … I mean, I think he's aware of Tsuraga's feelings for you but is he that insane to put you, a minor with him in a hotel room?! …
Kyoko stressed: nothing happened!
Kanae: which is surprising … in a good way though, because if that guy did something to you, he would be committing a crime, to say the least … I'm impressed by his resolution and self-restraint! … it must have been torture!
Kyoko: tell me about it …
Kanae: wait! … does the president know about your feelings?!
Kyoko shrunk as she said: he found out … through Setsu …
Kanae: was he watching you?!
Kyoko: only for 1 day, I think … he was wearing a pink overall, when we as the Heels saw him … it was a mess, but I knew that he could tell right away!
Kanae: what happened exactly, that showed him a clear indication of your feelings … since the man in question still seems oblivious to your feeling so far
Kyoko: not so much …
Kanae: we'll get to that … so … what happened?
Kyoko: Well, I was having an identity crisis! …
Worried, Kanae: what the hell happened?!
Kyoko: it's more about me feeling conflicted … I failed to act like Setsu because I as Kyoko couldn't bring myself to be possessive … or show jealousy … but Setsu should be able to … but in that instance … I was trying to run away for the reality of my feelings … I was losing the fight, … and …
Kanae: wait, what are you trying to say?
Frustrated, Kyoko explained: Cain, he was supposed to be only nice to me, … well only nice to Setsu … but he was nice to Manaka for once … and since then, she started throwing herself at him begging for his attention, like an idiot! … she just reminded me of how stupid love is, yet … I was slowly realizing that I had feelings for him … I enjoyed being Setsu, and felt prideful and delighted whenever he complimented me … I couldn't help it!
Kanae: so, Setsu was supposed to act bratty and jealous, but you couldn't do that?
Kyoko: basically … I was losing my ability to stay in character … because I knew that if I were to act jealous it was me who was, not only Setsu … and I as a person never allowed myself to be like that, even when I saw Sho with other girls …
Kanae: wait, you saw that jerk kiss other girls, yet, you never said anything? … you just let him do whatever he wanted, and still remained by his side?!
Kyoko: I know that was stupid … I just knew that if I ever said anything, he would lash out at me!

Yashiro: oh, Kyoko's done!
Ren: alright then, let's go pick her up!
Yashiro: I wonder what she was doing there … all on her own
Ren: she did mention she was calling Kotonami-san
Yashiro: true … but why there?
Ren: perhaps for privacy reasons … her mother might be working from home, and the love me section room is not as private …
Yashiro: that makes sense!
After nearly a 12-minute drive, they arrived at the Karaoke … Yashiro texted Kyoko, and she came out right away
Yashiro was glad Kyoko stayed in the building until he arrived, he had been giving her advice as to protect her, especially with her raising status
Kyoko entered the car and greeted the two men quietly
Ren noticed that Kyoko's face was a little red, and wondered what kind of topics she discussed with her friend … he wondered if it was about Cain and Setsu since Kyoko asked him if she can talk to her about them … her being red-faced did make some sense …
Yashiro: everything ok, Kyoko-chan?
Kyoko looked down and said: I wonder … perhaps that was a terrible idea … why did I even agree to this …
Nervous, Yashiro asked: did something wrong happen?!
Kyoko: No … don't worry about it … it's just Moko-san being a big tease about everything!
Yashiro: a big tease?!
Ren: perhaps it's better if we don't ask, Yashiro! … it's a private conversation between close friends, right?
Kyoko: I would prefer that actually …
Yashiro: ok … as you wish …
After driving for nearly 10 minutes, Yashiro was starting to feel anxious… it was awfully quiet in the car … with both his charges looking out of the window in silence … he thought for a moment, then asked: should we get dinner? … you're both done for the day
Ren wasn't really hungry, since he ate at the studio before they left … he wanted to boost about it and make Kyoko proud, but now he was regretting it because he would rather eat with her
Kyoko: I had a light snack, so I'm not hungry …
Yashiro: right …
Wanting to uplift the mood, he tried to suggest a place to go to … but had no idea what kind of place he can suggest … both his charges didn't have any disguises with them, and they might get some unwanted attention if they go somewhere new … Yashiro grumbled as he scratched his head in frustration
Kyoko got some type of notification on her phone, so she checked it and said: oh!
Yashiro: what is it?
Kyoko: while checking my email, I found an email from Hiroki-kun … he suggested an Ice cream shop that has great flavors and high-quality ice cream!
Ren: would you like to go there and have some?
Unsure, Kyoko: I'm not sure … I don't either of you like sweets, so I wouldn't ask to go somewhere that neither of you would like!
Yashiro: you're wrong Kyoko-chan, I actually like sweets! … and I really liked the chocolates you gave me earlier this year!
Ren: I wouldn't mind having a small scoop, besides … I know you and Kotonami-san like to eat ice cream together, so maybe if this place is as good as it sounds, … you could go there once Kotonami-san comes back
Excited, Kyoko: then, should we go?!
Yashiro: give me the name, and I will find the address
Kyoko gave him the name of the shop, then wondered: do you think Maria-chan likes Ice Cream?
Yashiro: I'm sure she'd love to come
Ren: then I will see if I can ask her to come to join us there!
Kyoko: great!
(In Saena's Apartment)
Saena bid Todoh goodbye after having a good time together at his place
He had to leave earlier because he had to prepare for an upcoming case in court … so he dropped her off earlier than he wanted because he wanted to keep his promise that their work won't be affected by their relationship no matter what
Saena was a little disappointed their date was cut short but was glad that they weren't letting their relationship affect their work
Saena went to change, and as she did … she held up her hand to touch the hickey Todoh left on her collarbone … however, she soon realized that the bra she was wearing was old and a little worn out
Feeling embarrassed Saena covered her face in shame as she sat down feeling tormented about it
She didn't regret going that far this time around, however, she did feel ashamed that she wasn't dressed properly … she never actually prepared for the occasion as she never thought they would go that far, as much as she didn't mind it
She got up and checked her clothes drawer, just to see that all her undergarments were relatively old, some had clear worn-out signs … she didn't mind wearing them, because she didn't think she needed to spend money on better ones until she had to throw away what she had
But now things have changed … she is now dating, and sooner or later she would need to update her undergarments … she had updated her wardrobe recently but didn't get close to the undergarments section in the store
She however didn't know the first thing about wearing seductive undergarments, and if they were even needed … she never worried about that issue before, because in the past she would buy new things every once in a while, but after what happened, she tried to live as minimal as possible, to the point she disregarded comfortable clothes just to keep appearances
She wondered what Todoh felt or thought about her being dressed in an old, worn-out bra … was he upset about it, did it bother him … he didn't say anything, … was it because he didn't want to embarrass her, or did he not pay too much attention
She felt stuck … she didn't feel like those questions can be asked … she couldn't simply call Akemi Nakano and ask her about that, could she?
At moments like these, having someone she can talk like a family member, or a close friend would have been helpful … however, she had no family left other than Kyoko, and had no close friends, since she spent the majority of her time studying instead of hanging out with people her age, back in high school
But thinking about it, she wouldn't have ever opened up to her mother about those things, because it wasn't a topic either of them felt comfortable talking about.
Saena was now lost in thought, thinking about the what if's … what would her parents say if they were here today, would she have had a relationship with them given what happened, or would they have disowned her … as much as they were traditional, she knew they loved her, even though they never said it to her
She stood up and shook her head, thinking (it's pointless thinking about that what if's)
However, she found herself looking through her old books, where she found a few photos that she stored there … there she found a picture of her standing with her parents at her high school graduation … that was in fact the last picture of them together before their eventual death
A few more photos fell out of that same book … some of her standing alone at her university graduation wearing her coming of age Kimono … another photo was of Kyoko as a baby
As much as she distanced herself from Kyoko in the past, she had always kept one picture of her as an infant, which Yayoi had given her at some point
A memory reemerged making Saena all the more emotional
The memory
Saena was sitting down in her office when Yayoi knocked on the door and entered
Yayoi: she's fast asleep … hopeful she'll sleep through the night
Saena simply nodded, looking grim … she had lost another case … although she knew there was no path to winning, it still stung her deeply
Yayoi: I know you have been having a hard time … but things will get better, so don't stress about it too much
Saena: you don't know that … things have been getting worse … ever since I had her ….
Yayoi cut her off, saying: that's not true, Saena! … despite things not going well, you have a job and a healthy child!
Saena: that I never wanted …
Yayoi sighed before approaching Saena, and giving her a photo of Kyoko sleeping peacefully, then said: I was going to give you this later, but I think you should have it now
Unsure, Saena: why?
Yayoi: look, I know that you're having a hard time and that you still don't know how to deal with those complicated feelings … however, the child in this picture is your daughter, and she's your responsibility!
Saena looked down at the picture … not wanting to admit that Yayoi is right
Yayoi: I understand that it's difficult and that you have no desire to be a mother, but the facts won't change … as I said before, I am willing to help with her care, but I won't be replacing you in that position
Saena nodded again but said nothing
Yayoi: I know my situation is different, given I wanted to have my child, and I feel blessed to be a mother, … I know you won't be able to look at it this way, at least for now, but Kyoko-chan is a blessing, no matter what lead to her coming to this world, she was meant to be born, … so keep this with you as a reminder that this child is someone you need to provide for, and therefore you will push yourself to work harder so you two can live a comfortable life
Saena stared at the picture, and although she still didn't accept reality … she had to admit Kyoko was peacefully asleep … she looked adorable to some extent … she knew that she will forever be responsible for her, and that broke her to some extent
Yayoi: one day this child will grow up … so it's up to you to figure out your relationship with her … I hate to remind you of this, but … she will probably never know her father, so … be the better parent and be there for her, at least support her in one way or another!
Saena looked at Yayoi then back at the photo … and thought (but how am I supposed to support this child with my current job …)
Yayoi knew that her brother was planning to go to Tokyo soon, so she was hopeful Saena won't have to work as a public defender for long … sure she was paid by the government for her service but that was way less compared to the previous job that she lost… moreover, given she always got cases that are impossible to win, it was already taking a toll on her mentally, discouraging her from having a positive outlook on the future altogether
Saena looked away trying to keep it together …
Yayoi sighed again and said: look, life doesn't always go the way we want … When I accept the marriage proposal, I didn't know what I was signing in for … but I was aware I was expected to produce an heir, and I'm glad I did … because I'm not sure I would be able to handle pregnancy again … but … although we had a son … my biggest fear is that he won't want to inherit the business when he grows up
Surprised, Saena asked: isn't it too early to think about that?
Yayoi: is it though? … just seeing the next generation's direction, I fear that he will one day prefer to do something else … I wasn't really thinking about that, but my mother-in-law said that I need to raise him to take over the business, but I honestly don't have any idea of how to do that! … it's scary and you know too, thinking about that one decision that can change the whole outcome of the future!
Saena nodded, then said: are you regretful?
Yayoi: do I regret it? … I don't know if I can answer this question now … but as of now, I'm happy … I'm still terrified because I don't want to fail my husband and his family, but … I know that I will do my best … soon I will be taking over the business and it will be my responsibility to not only protect the business but also raise the heir that will inherit it in the far future
Saena: you won't fail them if you do your best …
Yayoi: yeah, I can't let fear control me … and that goes for you too, don't let fear hold you back, and take whatever opportunity comes to you, … I wish you all the best Saena-san!
Saena nodded, then said: the same for you …
Yayoi: alright good night! … if you need any further help, I'm just one call away!
After Yayoi left, Saena stared at the photo for what felt like ages, before shaking her head, and standing up … she reached for a dear book that her father had given her a long time … she opened it and placed the picture of Kyoko between some pages, and closed the book … then put it back on the shelf

Saena stared at the pictures in her hand … one of her parents who are long gone, and another of Kyoko as an infant … she didn't really understand the point of having Kyoko's picture when it was first given to her, but she had to admit that she's glad to have it today … and although she never actually took the time to look at the picture, she always kept it in that same book that she always kept with her, no matter where she went
She put the pictures aside, and picked up her phone, staring at it, debating if she should make the call … she worried at first, but she gathered the courage and called
Yayoi picked up the phone, answering: hello?
Saena: good evening
Yayoi: good evening, Saena … I'm glad to finally hear your voice … it's been a while
Saena: it sure has … I'm sorry for my long silence …
Yayoi: no worries, I know you're busy, and so am I, honestly … besides, you were dealing with that whole ordeal, … how are you? … I hope you're ok!
Saena: I'm doing ok … it could have been worse, but I'm glad everything is settled for now
Yayoi: I'm glad to hear that!
Saena: how have you been, with work and all?
Yayoi smiled and said: it's going ok … work has slowed down a little, thankfully … although we are expecting more visitors in the next few weeks for the summer festivals
Saena: I'm sure that will be hectic
Yayoi: as usual, but nothing I can't handle! … so how are things with you and Kyoko-chan?
Saena: everything is going well, …
Yayoi: I'm happy to hear that!
Saena: um … well, … do you have some time?
Yayoi: sure, … I'm free right now … I'm glad you called! … I was hoping we could talk, you know!
Saena: well …
Yayoi: Saena-san … you can talk to me about anything!
Saena: Are you sure?
Yayoi: of course! … after all, were closer than just family friends … because I truly consider you as a family!
