A few months pass by since Sky's birth. She had gotten bigger since them, growing up to her mother's shoulders, a few inches shorter than Toboe.
The pack were now in an ice wasteland, and it was nighttime. The air was freezing that night. However, the sky was crystal clear tonight, its stars were shining brightly.
Other than the wind, their paws were the only sounds they could hear. Luna ran beside Tsume, who was behind Kiba. Sky was running beside her parents while Toboe and Hige were behind them.
Sky looked up at the sky, seeing a shooting star fly across them. "Look it, shooting stars! So pretty!" she laughed. Toboe glanced up and saw them too. "They are pretty," the red wolf agreed.
Luna glanced down at her and at the sky. 'It is beautiful,' she thought.
By the time it was morning, the pack had made it to the frozen sea that the commander had told them about. Sky had to be told about going there, but at her young age, she wouldn't understand why they had to go across it. She had also been told of Cheza and how she was their key to paradise, which amazed the young pup.
She was also told by Hige about hiding their wolf forms from the human eye because of how the humans had believed that her kind had been extinct for 200 years,
They stood on a cliff in their human forms. Sky held onto Luna's arm, looking to see where her father was. There wasn't any other form of life other than them. It was freezing, more than the previous night.
They watched as the ice flowed on the open water. "Is that the ocean?" Toboe asked. "It's an ice flow," Kiba answered. Sky looked up at the white wolf.
"What's that, Uncle Kiba?" she asked. "A frozen sea, Sky," Tsume replied to his daughter. "It's the sea that that human told us about," Luna added.
They needed to jump down from the cliff, but Sky hasn't gotten used to her agility like the others do. "Sky, climb on my back. I'll help you down," Tsume said, picking Sky up by her underarms.
"Okay, daddy," Sky said with a smile. Tsume got Sky on his back, letting her wrap her arms around his neck. He held her legs against his waist.
"You'll be okay, hon," Luna assured. Kiba leaped down to the bottom of the cliff. Hige followed behind him, then it was Luna, Sky, Tsume.
Toboe was last, but he ended up slipping on the ice, dipping his hand into the ice-cold water.
He jumped out instantly. "That's cold!" he yelped, recoiling his hand back. Hige looked over his shoulder to look at the red wolf. "Would you be careful, runt? We're over water here," he spat.
"He's smart, Uncle Hige!" Sky shouted.
"Thank you, Sky! Let's go!" Toboe says, leaping the gap. He ran by them hurriedly. "Mom, can I go with him?" Sky asked, looking up at her mother.
"Stay with him, hon," Luna replied. Sky laughed and chased after the red wolf. "What're you guys waiting for? Hurry up! This air feels great!" Toboe shouted, looking over his shoulder at the other four wolves stood there.
"I get Sky, but why is Toboe so happy for? It's freezing!" Hige complained, tucking is hands in his hoodie pockets. "He's such a pup," Tsume says, not saying anything about his daughter.
The pack traveled more through more of the frozen tundra in their wolf form. Kiba took the lead again, Tsume, Luna, and Sky were behind him. Hige was on Kiba's right side. Toboe was falling behind them. But he caught up when they reached a ravine.
Kiba, Tsume, Hige, Luna, and Sky jumped over the ravine; Sky had to be carried, of course. Tsume set her down and she held her mother's hand.
They noticed that Toboe hadn't jumped over the ravine. He was looking down with an unsure look on his face. "Hey! What're you waiting for? You scared or something?" the mexican wolf shouted. Toboe looked up at him when he started to talk to him.
Toboe scrunched his face up in anger. "I was just getting ready to, alright!?" Toboe shouted back at him. "Getting ready to do what?" he asked.
"Shut up, Hige," Luna said quietly. Toboe backed up a little bit and faced the ravine. "Right!" he said. He started to scream as be sprinted towards the ravine.
He jumped over the ravine, but he landed roughly on the other side. "WAAH!" he yelled out, yelping when he was hopping on his toes. The others looked away as he fell over.
He sat up and held his head. Sky ran over with Luna. "Toboe, you okay?" Luna asked, kneeling down beside him. "Yeah, I'm okay," the red wolf said. "I was scared you were hurt!" Sky added. Toboe ran his hand on Sky's hair.
"I'll be okay," he said. Sky went back to her father. Luna looked ahead, seeing piles of bones lying on the ice. "Look at this," she said, picking it up.
"Why is there bird bones here?" she asked, looking at it. Hige walked over and took it out of her hand. He looked for any meat on it.
"Hmm, not so much as a scrap of meat on it," he sighed. "I'm hungry," Sky whimpered. "I know, hon. We'll find something," Luna assured her daughter.
"Don't worry, we should find something in the next town up ahead," Kiba said to them. "Yeah, you're right. The sooner we get out of here, the sooner we can eat and get Sky something. *Looks over at Toboe* Hey, Toboe, you still in one piece?" Tsume said.
"Well, of course I am! Let's get moving!" Toboe answered, putting a fist against his chest. Hige pouted and he looked up at the muggy sky. "C'mon! I wanna see some birds up there!" he groaned.
"We'll find some for sure!" Sky said optimistically. That was another great trait about Sky; she was always saw the brighter side of tough situation.
The pack gallop through the frozen tundra in their wolf forms in the same way as before. Luna looked over her shoulder, seeing Toboe falling behind them.
Hige did the same, raising his ears. "Shake a leg, runt! You're falling behind!" he shouted. "I know, I know!" The red wolf barked back, his ears flattening.
What the pack didn't realize that there was a bigger danger beneath them. It was much better than freezing or starving to death.
They ran for another ten minutes before they came across a bone graveyard. Toboe caught up with them a minute later.
Sky clung to her mother and tried to look away from the sight. Luna hugged her tightly. "Man, it's like a junkyard for bones," Hige commented.
"I've got a bad feeling about this," Tsume said, feeling a shiver crawl up his spine. Luna felt one too. "Yeah, something's not right," she added.
"I don't like this..." Sky whimpered. "That may be, but we need to go through it," Kiba said, looking towards the bone yard.
Hige shrugged his shoulders and looked upwards. "I kinda figured you'd say that," he whined, looking down at Toboe, who was looking away.
Luna didn't like it either, so they were on the same page. "Toboe, what happened to your arm?" Hige asked. Toboe looked at the Mexican wolf with a confused look on his face.
He looked down, seeing the trail of blood coming from his right upper arm. "Oh, it's nothing! It's just a scratch!" he replied, laughing nervously as he hid his arm behind his back.
Kiba could sense something was up with Toboe, knowing he wasn't like this. "Toboe, that's a nasty cut," Luna said. "Yeah, why don't we rest for a while?" Kiba interjected.
Toboe growled in frustration and looked away with his eyes closed. "Quit babying me! I'm fine, okay?!" he growled and sprinted by them, "C'mon, we're burning daylight!"
"Is he going to be okay?" Sky asked. They watched as the red wolf ran through the bone yard. "Well, if he's got that much energy, then he must be, Sky," Hige answered.
"That's a bad cut. If it's bleeding, it's gonna attract something," Luna pointed out, knowing this all too well. She had been in this situation before.
"She's right. Whatever is out there can smell it within a mile," Kiba agreed. "Whatever it is, we can eat it," Tsume said.
"You're not the only one who is hungry. Not to mention, Sky has to eat something," Luna replied, picking Sky up with her arms behind her back. Sky hopped onto her mother's back and wrapped her small arms around Luna's neck, but not enough to choke her.
(Walrus Fight)
The pack make it through the bone yard and leaped over more rows of ice. Of course, Toboe was falling behind again. So they had no choice but to wait for him.
Luna sets Sky down on the ground while they waited. They had no choice but to wait on him to catch up. The red wolf looked as if he was going to collapse any second now; maybe taking a break wouldn't have hurt.
When he did catch up, he ended up tripping on a lip in the ice and he fell over face first. They couldn't help but sigh when that happened. Toboe turned his head to the right and sighed quietly.
"Hey, runt! You okay over there?" Hige shouted loud enough for Toboe to hear. "Thanks for asking, I'm just fine," Toboe sighed, feeling defeated.
He laid there for a few minutes before he started to get up, groaning in the process. When he did so, there was a deep rumbling sound coming from below the ice. It sounded as if it was trying to break through the ice.
Toboe looked around for a moment before pushing himself to his feet, but another tremor knocked him back down to the ground. "What the hell?" Hige gasped.
Luna's heart jumped in her chest. What was making those tremors? Suddenly, something huge broke through the ice in front of Toboe, shattering it to pieces.
Toboe and Hige gasped in shock. Sky let out a shriek when she saw it. They beast landed where Toboe was.
"Toboe, no!" Hige and Sky shouted, running to him. "Sky, wait!" Tsume shouted, starting to run after her. Luna was about to go after her too, but she saw that Sky wanted to help the red wolf.
"Get out of the water!" Hige shouted. Toboe started to swim towards him Sky.
"Tsume, wait. She's going to help him," she said, grabbing her mate by his muscular arm. Tsume was unsure but watched as Hige and Sky helped Toboe out of the water.
They get him out and were immediately knocked to the ground by the same creature that broke through the ice again. Luna ran to them, checking on her daughter and Toboe.
They were okay from the impact. However, they were able to see what it actually was. It was a walrus that was as tall as a skyscraper.
It could see that they are wolves. At this, it roared loudly at them. Luna growled, "Sky, stay with Toboe," Sky didn't say anything in response.
Luna, Tsume, and Kiba rushed at the beast in their wolf forms. Luna bared her fangs and bit down on its blubbery back skin. Kiba and Tsum bit down on it's flippers.
However, Tsume and Kiba were thrown off of the walrus. "Dad! Uncle Kiba!" Sky shouted, getting up from next to Toboe and Hige.
Sky ran at the walrus in her wolf form, baring her fangs at the walrus. She bounded onto the walrus and bit down as hard as she could.
"Sky! What are you doing!?" Luna shouted, releasing her bite when she saw her daughter. "Helping you guys! I will protect my family!" Sky replied, biting the walrus on a different spot, shaking her head and fur.
Luna, as much as she wanted to scold her daughter for disobeying her, knew that this wasn't right time to say anything.
Kiba shook his head before seeing the walrus stab him in the left thigh, making it bleed instantly. "AGH!" the white wolf shouted in agony.
"Bastard!" Tsume shouted, running back towards the walrus and bit down on the beasts' flipper in his wolf form.
"Kiba!" Hige shouted, running to the walrus and climbing onto it as a wolf. Toboe watched in horror as his pack was fighting the walrus.
Kiba felt the walrus' tusk dig deeper into his leg. He gritted his teeth in agony, trying not to scream. Toboe watched on, feeling himself shaking on the ice.
He clenched his fist and his breath became shaky and heavy. He closed his eyes and grunted. He stood up, opening his hazel eyes. He saw red, now on fight mode.
"WWWWRRRAAAHHHH!" he shouted, sprinting towards the walrus. He leaped up with his fangs bared. The walrus only had a second to see the furious red wolf bite down on his eye.
Blood shot out the second Toboe bit down. The walrus roared in agony and recoiled backwards. Kiba fell back after the bigger animals' tusk was pulled out of his leg.
He saw Toboe attacking the walrus' eye. "Toboe, don't do it!" he yelled out.
Toboe was too focused on taking this walrus down. The walrus fell all the way back and it fell through the ice. The rest of the pack had been forced to let go of the walrus.
They floated to the top and resurfaced in their human form. Kiba ran over to them. "Are you guys alright?" he asked. "Yeah, where's Toboe?" Tsume asked.
They get out of the water, feeling the freezing air. Luna held onto Sky, feeling her shake. Tsume did the same as her.
They hear the ice breaking behind them and they all look towards where it was coming from. It was the walrus charging through the ice, trying to get Toboe off of him, but nothing he did worked. He went under the water but resurfaced.
It even jumped through a iceberg. The pack was shocked to see their pack mate showing his wrath against the beast. Soon, they went underwater, not resurfacing.
"Mom, dad, where is he? He's not coming back up," Sky asked worriedly. "We don't know. That damn kid went crazy," Tsume answered.
"This sucks. This really sucks... Why is he taking so long to come back up? C'mon, Toboe. *cups his hands* TOBOE!" Hige shouted in panic.
As if on cue, they heard a loud splash behind them. They all looked behind them to see the walrus resurface, crawling onto the ice. He had been penetrated with many ice cycles, making him bleed.
He threw Toboe off of his eye, making the red wolf fly through the air. He had no scratches on him, surprising the pack.
Toboe landed on his paws, his bracelets jingling. He stood in a fighting stance, his tail raised, his ears erect. He bared his fangs at the weakened walrus.
He still had red in his wolf eyes, ready for another fight if he felt it was necessary. He snarled at the walrus.
The walrus's blood fell to the ice and his arms shook. He looked down at Toboe for a moment. He then groaned and fell over onto his side.
"I can't believe it," Tsume said in disbelief. "What got into you?" Luna asked. Toboe snapped out of his rage and sunk to his knees. He started to shake.
"Something happened... I just... I don't know... it's as if something inside of me snapped..." he said, looking through his wet hair, which laid in front of his face. He had fought for his pack, like a real wolf.
Sky hugged her father, who hugged her back. Then, a deep voice broke the silence. "You must be joking... Not once had I ever been defeated here. I've been here to protect this land since ages ago. Even after all of my brethren had died off. In this world, is either kill, or be killed. But understand this... I will not die a victim! I... want... to save... you... wolves..." the walrus spoke, his muddy red eye clouding over, showing that it died from its injuries.
The pack felt the frigid wind blow pass them for a few seconds before it stopped. A few seconds after it ended, Hige's stomach growled loudly. He started to walk to it, but Kiba said, "Hige," That got him to stop walking and he gave a nod.
Kiba knelt down and put a hand on Toboe's shoulder. Toboe looked over his shoulder to look at the white wolf. "He's your kill, so you eat first," Kiba said, smiling at him. Toboe nodded and stood up in his wolf form.
The rest of the pack watched him in their wolf forms. Toboe started to eat the walrus, and the pack followed suit after ten seconds. They started to fill their stomachs.
(Evening time)
By the time it was night time, the pack had completely devoured the walrus. Hige and Sky ate the most out of everybody. When Luna was finished, she laid on the sidelines. She kept her front paws in front of her and her hindlegs were outstretched behind her, her tail was laying on her hind legs. Her ears were raised up as she looked up at the sky, watching the shooting stars fly across the sky.
Sky snuck up behind her mother and jumped on her, only to roll off of her. "Rarr! Got you, mama!" she said while laughing. Luna laughed at her daughter and she looked beside her, seeing her daughter on her right side.
"You sure did, hon. One day you're gonna be a great hunter like us," Luna replied. Sky giggled and wagged her tail. "Did you see how I got our dinner? Did you see?" Sky asked, remembering how she also helped with trying to take down the walrus.
"You were very brave, Sky," Luna chuckled. Sky settled down and laid down between her mother's forelegs. She looked up at the sky with curiosity in her eyes. "Pretty, isn't it?" Luna said. "Oh, it is! There goes another one! Did you see it?!" Sky said, seeing another shooting star.
"I did, sweetheart," Luna replied warmly. Tsume finished his fill, getting word that they would be leaving early the next morning. For the night, they would rest before moving on to Jaguara's city.
The grey wolf trotted over to his family. Sky saw her father coming over and ran over to him. "Daddy!" she barked, running under him. Tsume nuzzled his little girl. "It's time to settle down, Sky. You gotta get some sleep," he said to her.
"But I'm not tired!" Sky whined. "Do as your father says, Sky," Luna said to her pup. Sky sulked in defeat and walked back to her mother. "Okay," she said, resting between her mother's front legs, resting her head and forelegs on Luna's foreleg.
The young wolf closed her eyes and went to sleep. Tsume laid down next to his mate. "We're leaving in the morning. That's what Kiba said anyway," Tsume said to her. "Okay. We all need a break from today," Luna replied, yawning.
"You should get some sleep too," Tsume said, noticing that she was tired. "I should say to the same to you," Luna said, grinning at him. "I gotta look after you and Sky," Tsume said stubbornly.
Luna appreciated how much of a good mate and father Tsume was trying to be. But he needed his sleep as much as the rest of the pack did. "I know, Tsume. But you need your sleep as much as everybody else," Luna replied.
After a while, Tsume rested his head on the back of Luna's neck and they fell asleep. When morning arrived, the pack move out towards Jaguara's city.
