Ye olde Hilda wedding chapter.
It's basic but, hey at least its a Hilda chapter.
Enjoy.
"No, no! Only white roses!...Pink? Yes pink is fine, pink and white roses only!"
"Hilda?"
"What? No we're having it inside! I thought we discussed this already?!"
"Um...Hilda?"
"No, no, that's too flashy! Take it down!"
"Hilda."
The Golden Deer student turned around to look at her brunette friend. "What!?"
Dorothea stared at her with wide eyes. "I think you need to calm down..."
"Calm down!? This is my wedding and it needs to be perfect! I cannot disappoint Byleth!"
That's right, today was Hilda and Byleth's big day; and the pink-haired girl was going to do everything in her power to make sure it all went smoothly. Byleth no doubt had high expectations for their wedding, and she had to make sure to exceed every single one of them.
Weddings were meant to be special after all, they were a ceremony that celebrated the undying love two people had for one another and was a way to show everyone else just how serious their love truly was.
So with that in mind, and Hilda's desire to never let down her fiancé; everyone was scrambling around setting things up to her exact specifications. Dorothea was around to help out as well, although mainly to try and keep Hilda from getting too crazy.
Dorothea finally managed to convince Hilda to step away and let everyone do their thing, so the two retreated to the garden near the Dining Hall to have some tea and cakes. As Dorothea filled up their cups Hilda began ranting about how things aren't going to plan.
"Were the pink roses too much? Maybe I should've gotten green roses to represent Byleth...But are green roses even a thing?" Hilda mumbled to herself before sipping her tea. Dorothea could only stare silently at her pink-haired friend.
"it's not like you get so worked up over something, nor is it like you to put in so much effort as well."
Hilda nodded, setting down her cup. "Yeah...It's just...Byleth means a lot to me." She began. "He's done so much for me, and he believes in me too. I don't want to fail him or his expectations."
"You really think Byleth would get upset with you for a terrible wedding?" Dorothea asked.
"Upset? No. Disappointed? Absolutely!" Hilda slammed her tea cup down, cracking the bottom slightly. "Can you imagine the look on his face when sees the horrible decoration? Or the mismatching color pallette, or..." Suddenly Hilda's face went pale. "The dress...What does the dress look like!? Who's even making the dress?!"
"Bernie is..."
"Oh is she? Good, good...It'll be fine then..." Hilda took a deep breath. Dorothea pulled aside a servant and asked her to fetch Hilda another tea cup, the servant nodded and walked off to the dining hall to retrieve one.
Hilda sighed and rested her face in her hands. "What am I gonna do if this doesn't work out..."
"My question is why are you making such a big fuss over this?"
Hilda looked up at Dorothea. "Is that a trick question or..."
"Nope, a geuinine one. This is YOUR day, YOUR day of happiness." Dorothea took a sip from her cup of tea. "Besides, leave the church people to do their thing. Look at how me and Ferdie's wedding turned out."
"But this is different! Byleth is an incredibly hard man to please!"
Eventually the servant returned with another tea cup, taking Hilda's cracked one before bowing and leaving the two girls.
Dorothea raised an eyebrow. "What makes you say that? Has Byleth done or said anything to you that would make you think that way?"
Hilda shook her head. "No but...For everything he's done for me, it would only make sense that he would expect the same thing from me as well, but I don't think I can even come close to repaying everything he's done for me."
"And what makes you think he wants to be repaid, or that he expects you to repay him?" Dorothea inquired further, beginning to understand the reasons behind Hilda's frantic behavior earlier.
"Because it's the natural thing to do!"
Dorothea could only smile at first before letting out a light giggle at seeing Hilda caring about other's feelings for once. "Oh..." she sighed. "You really do love him don't you?"
"Yes! I do!" Hilda exclaimed.
Dorothea always heard love could change a person, but to think it was to this extent; it was beautiful. Maybe she could write a song about it.
Eventually the time for the big event came, and despite Hilda's fears everything went off without a hitch. Byleth was more then pleased with the decorations and everything else, Hilda constantly pestering him by asking if everything was to his liking.
Once all was said and done, and the two sat in their now shared bedroom on the night of the wedding; Hilda asked Byleth if he had any complaints.
"Complaints? About the wedding ceremony?"
Hilda nodded her head quickly.
"Why would I have complaints about our own wedding ceremony?"
"I mean why wouldn't you? So come on! Tell me! What did you like? What did you dislike? Was it too flashy? Not flashy enough?" Hilda continued rambling on and on until eventually Byleth grabbed her by her shoulders to stop her.
"Hilda, calm down." He chuckled. "It was perfect, everything was amazing. I have no complaints."
Hilda seemed skeptical. "You're sure?"
Byleth nodded. "Would I ever lie to you?"
"No I suppose you wouldn't but..."
"Then relax"
Hilda remained silent for a moment before finally letting out a breath she didn't know she had been holding, chuckling afterwards. "Fine...I just wanted to make sure I lived up to your expectations..."
"I've already told you before that you've far surpassed them."
The two remained silent before Byleth spoke up again.
"Although, I do have one complaint."
Hilda's heart sank and she swallowed the lump in her throat. "W-What is it?"
"I just wish you would've put this much effort into your schoolwork." Byleth said with a sly grin.
Hilda giggled. "Well, that's that and this is something important."
Byleth didn't say anything, figuring that was a fair point.
He just hoped that Hilda would take it easy from now on, and not try to surpass his expectations any more.
Kind of an eh chapter in my opinion.
Until next time.
