Hey guys...so this story turned into something so much more and I'm just going with the creative juices. It was supposed to be cute little romance story of the boys. What happened?! Hahaha. Anyway. Trigger warning, my doves, mention of sexual abuse, physical abuse and rape.
Kevin Anderson was as normal as they come. If you think normal is a good word to describe the boy genius. Some would say he was a bit of an ego maniac. Others would say he was sweet and still others might even say he was very direct and to the point. All of these words were true. He was kind, yet direct. He was abrasive, yet calm in any situation. But, he could be downright terrifying when he was angry. In those moments, he was like a tiger waiting to pounce on his prey. His prey being one Nazz Von Bartonschmeer. If there was one thing he truly hated, loathed might be a better word, it would be abuse.
Kevin lived in an abusive household until the age of 12. His aunt had heard what his mother was doing and took her to court not long after. His Aunt Terry was a ruthless and passionate child advocate. She was in disbelief when she learned what her sister had been doing to him. And when she found out why, she decided to take the case one step further and proclaimed the abuse as a hate crime against an LGBTQ youth. This didn't bode well for his mother. She relinquished her rights the day after she had made the papers. Seeing his Aunt Terry work her magic in the courtroom made him want to practice law as well. He studied hard, and when he reached the age of 16, he was the youngest person ever to take and pass the bar exam. He received his diploma a week later and he's practiced ever since, advocating for children all over the country.
He took this particular case on pro bono because of his friendship to Double Dee.

He stared at Nazz. Anger boiling just beneath the surface. He couldn't quite understand how this girl had managed to look so innocent and small compared to his doppelganger counterpart. "So. Nazz. I have something to discuss with you."
She looked at him, eyes big. "What would be the issue?" She sat back against the chair, legs crossed, hands folded neatly in her lap. He sighed and squeezed the bridge of his nose. This girl is insufferable. How he managed to deal with her for so long is beyond my understanding.
"Nazz. Are you aware that you have abused Kevin for so long that even the nurses on the campus have taken to keeping a log of every time he goes in? Just this month alone, he's had multiple abrasions to his chest and back, a broken nose, two black eyes, fractured fingers and ribs. One nurse even recorded saying that he might have been sexually abused." He stared her down. Hoping she would crack when he mentioned the sexual abuse, he knew the allegation wasn't real. But he added it anyway to gauge her reaction.
But she had none. And that infuriated him.
"Mr. Anderson, Kevin. May I call you Kevin? Anyway. I would never abuse my Kevin like your describing. I love him to bits. I would never lay hand on him. Much less sexually abuse him. That is...that is just disgusting and despicable." Her words meant nothing. He knew right away that she was lying. But something kept nibbling at his subconscious.
He cleared his throat. "Please hold for just a moment, Nazz. My phone is buzzing." It wasn't. He simply turned on the recording app and placed his phone on the table beside him. He needed her to think he placed his phone on silent, he needed her confession. "I've placed it on silent so we wouldn't be interrupted again. You may call me Kevin if it so pleases you. But Nazz. These are serious allegations against you. If you are charged with this, you could face some serious jail time. In California, if you were charged, you could spend up to 5 years in jail. But this would be your first offense I assume. So maybe just 5 years of probation."
She studied him for a moment. "What would happen if I was charged with sexual abuse?" She asked, clearly she was a game of sorts. A game he didn't like and didn't want to continue.
"You could face 20 years in federal prison."
"Oh. That...that won't do. I can't spend my entire life in federal prison for something like that. I'm sorry. These allegations, as you called them, are immature and disgusting. I love him, I would never do such a horrid thing to him." She pulled a tissue from the box on the table. He studied her some more. There was just something about her that he couldn't place his finger on and it was starting to bug him. It worried him that he felt this way. It made him feel unclean and unsafe.
"Nazz, they have photo evidence of the physical abuse. I'm telling you this because if charges are placed against you, you could see jail time." He had to play along after all. To appeal to the more logical side of her he needed to sound calm, collected. Stooping to her level was easy when you knew how to manipulate the conversation. Did he use this technique in court? Very rarely, when it mattered. He needed to ruffle her feathers a bit. "So, Nazz, by your own admission, you have never done anything to Kevin? Nothing at all?" He was waiting, but he wasn't sure what he was waiting on.
She sniffled, "No, I have never done anything to Kevin to hurt him."
"Nazz, we have physical proof that you abused him. Physically abused him. Are you saying you never did this to him? That he just did it to himself?"
"What? No. He wouldn't hit himself. There's no way he could have done what I did. I mean, he's a scared little boy who was raised never to hit women. But, his momma and I decided it was best if we beat...for lack of a better term...if we beat the gay out of him. So, with her permission, that's what I did." She was studying her nails, not realizing what she said. Kevin waited a few beats before continuing. He didn't want to rush into this head long and lose something he could potentially use in court. Was this illegal? Not necessarily. Recordings were admissible in court. (A/N: if the Depp v. Heard case is anything to go by at least...) He shuffled some papers around.
"Nazz. These sexual abuse allegations are very heavy. I just want to make sure that you did not have a hand in this. Did you sexually assault Mr. Barr at all during your 5 years together?" He stared at her intently. He was hoping his hunch was wrong, but they were never wrong. He just hoped this one time he was.
Nazz sighed heavily. "I did everything under the strict permission from his mother. She said to do whatever I needed to. Including having sex with him when he was drunk."
Kevin stared at her, face blank. "I see. And you did everything she said to do?"
"Yes. I did. Why is that so hard to understand? His mother gave me permission to do these things to him. His mother hates who he is and so do I. Being gay is unnatural and sinful. We are god fearing and devout Christians. I'm not sure where you aren't understanding this." she replied haughtily. He sat and contemplated for a few moments.
"Thank you, Nazz. I appreciate your time with me. I think we have everything figured out." He gathered all of his papers together and stood, placing his phone in his pocket and papers in his briefcase. He began to wonder if Nazz was within her right mind at this point. "Hopefully she isn't a victim as well. This would be a much bigger case if it is." He thought.
"Thank you for visiting Kevin. It was too bad we couldn't do more." Nazz smiled as she held the door open for him. "Thank you, Nazz. You were a most gracious host. We'll talk again soon, I'm sure."
With a final wave, Kevin drove off. He needed to contact Dee and tell him his findings. He was not going to be happy, but he needed to be sure of what he suspected before anything else. If the latter was indeed true, then they had a lot more to deal with than just a simple abuse case.

I'm not sure where this was headed to begin with when I first started writing it. I'm sure no one else did either. I hate that I'm writing this as it is now. Sometimes you think you have a very specific idea in mind for a story and then it takes off in a totally different direction. By no means was I trying to make Nazz seem like this monster. By adding in that she may also be a victim, I'm hoping it makes people more sympathetic towards her character. Maybe not. Who knows. I had no idea where this story was going when I first started writing it. I do hope though that our boys will eventually find a light in the dark and everything comes to an end. And soon. So please forgive me for the path that this has taken.
