Mono and Isaac both had seen better days. Recovering inside a dumpster, hiding from Twitter users certainly was not a high moment. Mono peeked out every so often to see whether anyone was outside. He had spotted a Google user and a gang of Discord users walk by but he didn't want to find out if they were Twitter users in disguise. Meanwhile, Isaac was fretfully sleeping on a pile of pillows. He would whimper at the slightest disturbance so Mono tried his best to stay quiet. He knew he could get to a better place to hide if he had access to a television. But that would mean more nightmares. And he doubted whatever was threatening him wouldn't be too happy about him beating up its subordinates. However Mono knew of other pathways around the internet. He didn't know if he could get access if he was spotted. He then realized there was a pathway he could take.
Having made up his mind, he shook Isaac awake. The child stirred and opened its black eyes.
"C'mon Isaac," said Mono as he lifted the lid of the dumpster, grateful there was no one outside. Isaac snuck behind Mono as the two stepped out onto the main street. Internet users and citizens were walking, taking no notice of the children. Mono glanced at an arrow sign that pointed down the road which read, "Search Engine Station". He could see an indistinct outline of a large building with railways extending out in all directions, like an octopus. Mono gestured for Isaac to follow him and they both started their journey to the train station.
...
The train station was fairly busy when the pair arrived. They could barely see anything between the multitude of legs so they got up on a chair to look around and soon Mono saw where he wanted to go. There were multiple search engines or in this case railways that passengers could choose from, Google, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Bing. But there was one that Mono was looking for. Something that could keep him and Isaac from the prying eyes of Internet users. He led Isaac towards the Google railways but then he took an abrupt turn towards a staircase that went down. The pair wound up in a dark grey and decrepit platform. A sign hung on chains that read "Incognito". In the corner at the concierge desk, a monochromatic woman wearing a grey overcoat, hat, and sunglasses glanced suspiciously at them. Mono walked over to a billboard that had a table to the arrival times of each train. Conveniently, there was one that will be arriving in two minutes. But something caught Mono's attention. He took a closer look and his blood ran cold.
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CHILD?
MONO
WANTED FOR QUESTIONING
Mono backed away from the poster and ran back to Isaac who had a confused look on his face from Mono's sudden panic.
"We need to hide," muttered Mono as he grabbed Isaac by the hand and dragged him along the platform. Mono stole a backward glance and ran faster as he saw the woman at the concierge looking directly at him while speaking on a phone.
"Hurry," urged Mono as he stumbled over his feet.
But it was too late. The door was blasted off its hinges and a group of internet users ran onto the platform. But they weren't Twitter users. They looked like overly obese blue animals with stumpy limbs, triple chins, and neckbeards. They wore ill-fitting police uniforms and wielded hammers that had words like mute or ban stamped over them. They were Discord moderators. Mono veered off and hid behind a soda machine.
"He can't have gone far m'lady," Mono heard one of the discord mods say, "The boss said he would have come here."
"Be quick about it," said the woman, "I hate having to keep an eye out for your quarries."
"We understand your services Incognito-Chan..." said another, "Your work has helped Internet Users sate their urges..."
"No use sucking up to me," said Incognito-Chan shortly, "Now find that boy or get off of my platform."
The Discord mods grumbled to themselves as they dispersed. Mono took a peek at the clock and saw that there was a minute left until the train arrived. A pair of Discord mods walked by, their footstep made the ground shake. Mono held his breath
"I had to deal with this Discord user yesterday," said one of them, "They were spamming copypasta in general so I put them on a year-long ban. Is that reasonable?"
"Just ban them forever," muttered the other, "You're being too lenient. So what are you doing after this?"
"I was going back home before we got the call." replied the other cheerfully, "Me and my Discord Kitten were going to play Among Us."
"You know I am getting really sick of the boss getting us to go around rounding up those list of people. We're working overtime and he hasn't given any of us a raise or a promotion."
"Eh, I am still in it for the perks. I couldn't go anywhere without my banhammer."
"Well, you're right about that KadiKARLOS."
"Don't ping me."
The two Discord mods started arguing and walked off in another direction. Mono looked to the side and saw Isaac whimpering, clinging to Mono's arm. They had to get out of here. Suddenly, the entire platform started to rumble. The unmistakable sounds of a train echoed from the tunnel. Mono finally exhaled as a grey and black train burst out, eventually slowing down to a stop. The doors slid open with a hiss which revealed a black swirling portal spanning the frame. Now was their chance. Mono and Isaac sprinted out behind the soda machine, making a beeline for the nearest carriage. A Discord moderator spotted them and shouted something. Plodding footsteps echoed behind the pair. Mono looked back and willed himself to go faster as he saw a Discord mod right on their heels, hammer raised. But it was too late. Mono and Isaac jumped through the portal as the Discord mod roared in rage. As they were falling through space, Mono only had one thought in his mind.

As Mono's vision cleared, he found himself and Isaac in a sort of children's play place. The brightly colored play structures assaulted his eyes and he stood up. This is was the place. Mono led Isaac through the play place towards a room to the side. He paused for a moment outside. Even though he was allowed here, he wanted to get permission from the owner to stay. The owner was a busy person. As Mono opened the door, he saw a very colorful office with stickers and crayon drawings all over the walls. Sitting in an armchair across an equally colorful desk, was a small person. They appeared to be a small, simply-drawn angel with a heart-shaped pendant.
"Just a moment please," said the angel politely, "I just have to send a virtual hug to Ms _tigerlover."
There was a moment then the angel looked up from their tablet and smiled warmly.
"Hello children, how may I be of service?" asked the angel.
"We just want to stay here for a while," said Mono timidly, "Its because..."
"No need to explain," said the angel as they floated over the desk and towards the pair, "I know what has been happening and you are welcome to stay here for as long as you like."
Mono flushed with relief but Isaac was still clinging to Mono's arm, apparently afraid of the angel. They noticed this.
"There's no need to be scared," said the angel and they put a hand on Isaac's head, calming the child, "My name is Susie, the Embodiment of Wholesomeness."
Mono looked at Isaac and hugged the boy. They were safe. For now.
