Volume 4-4 EX: Grimm Misson (Part 1)

Morning came to the island of Patch but already two people were up in about in the morning as it was Yang and Ruby that were up and wearing more athletic clothing. It was crisp morning and it was perfect for their workout.

"Alright ready to go Ruby?' Yang asked as she finished her stretchs.

"Yep. Ready if you are." Ruby said.

"So one lap around the island fine for you." Yang added. Ruby only nodded.

"Just see if you can keep up Yang." Ruby teased almost competitivly.

"Oh you are so on." Yang said as they readied themselves starting at the entrance of their house.

"Ready. GO!" Yang declared as they both took off running down the trail. Meanwhile inside Tai had watched the two sisters take off from the house.

"Well those two are off. Guess they decided to get ahead of their workout." Tai said turning to Raven.

"Ruby does need the exercise. Hopefully she doesn't overdo it." Raven said.

"Rav you worry too much about her you know. Yang's with her so I'm sure she'll be fine." Tai reminded.

"I know that...I just can't help but worry." Raven replied though her voice had a edge of worry.

"I know you worry but you can't baby her. She's almost sixteen." Tai reminded again.

"I just...don't want to lose her just like we lost Summer." Raven added before she spoke again.

"Plus I think it's about time they know the truth. And I mean everyone, including the other three that are here." Raven said.

Tai slightly flinch at that but he understood what she Raven was going on about and while he wasn't wanting to he was going to tell them eventually about everything.

"So...when should we tell them?" Tai asked.

"When Yang and Ruby return. Then we tell them." Raven said feeling a little bit confident about what she was going to say. Though a certain mute ice cream girl overheard everything that they said which only made Neo wonder about what the two will tell them.

=RWBY=

Halfway into their run Ruby and Yang were casually jogging in pace with each other but not making it a competition. Though Ruby was already swetting bullets by that time while as Yang wasn't as swetting as much however she did look to Ruby and saw that her younger sister was struggling a little bit to keep pace with her.

So in response all of a sudden Yang came to a stop which made Ruby run past her a little bit before she stopped herself.

"Why'd *pant* you stop?" Ruby asked between breaths.

"Thought we take a break before making the big run back." Yang said before pulling out two canteens she packed and tossed one to Ruby. She grabbed it out of the air but she looked at it for a moment almost like she was thinking about something.

Yang found a tree to lean on before unscrewing her canteen and drinking from it though some of the water spilled out from the edges of her lips. She gave a big sigh of relief when she finished drinking some of the water.

"Now that feels better." Yang said as she looked to her sister but noticed a downcast look on her face as Ruby's eyes were only half opened.

"Ruby? You okay over their?" Yang asked.

Ruby didn't respsond for a minute as she saw her reflection in the canteen as the moment past. Then Ruby spoke again.

"When I got up their...to the tower where Ozpins office was...I saw Pyrrha and Team CFVY leader up but...I didn't make it in time. I wasn't fast enough. Last thing I saw...was Pyrrha going over the side. I told Jaune that we were going to save them but...I couldn't even do that." Ruby said clutching the canteen in her hands almost like she was trying to break it.

"If only I was faster I would've made it to help both Cinder and Pyrrha but now...I couldn't save any of them." Ruby said as tears threaten to stream her face.

Yangs big sister instincts kicked in and walked over to her sister and put her hands on her shoulders.

"Look Ruby...no one could've predicted what could've happened. It was completely out of the blue and we were unprepared. Cinder and Pyrrha...they were both the best people we've met in a long time but they both must've known what they had to do...even if they knew the risks involved." Yang replied.

"No matter how bad it hurts us to know that they're no longer with us...we just have to keep moving." Yang added rubbing the tears out of Ruby's eyes.

"I...guess you're right." Ruby said as Yang removed her hands from Ruby's shoulders. The smaller teen unscrewed the canteen and took a drink from it. A few seconds later she screwed the cap back on and handed it back to Yang.

"Lets get going and finish up." Ruby said as she ran ahead of Yang. The brawler could only smirk as she ran after her sister.

Meanwhile back at the house Tai and Emerald were outside picking vegetables from a garden Tai had made in the season.

"This is quite the haul. And you made this garden yourself." Emerald said.

"Yeah. Kinda had to at the start of the summer season. Kept them watered enough and treat the ground every now and then and you get yourself quite a haul." Tai replied as he put more in a wooden box.

"Honestly didn't take you for a farmer given how you're built like a huntsmen." Emerald stated.

"Well...sometimes things change and you just have to adapt to it." Tai said almost wanting to avoid the subject.

Though at the corner of Emeralds eye she noticed a woman walking up to the house but the woman also looked very familiar to her with the long light blonde hair. Emerald squinted and noticed that it was Glynda Goodwitch going to the front door.

"Um...Tai...isn't that Glynda?" Emerald asked pointing out the huntress. Tai looked and saw that it was indeed Glynda but which made him what she was doing on Patch in the first place.

"C'mon let's gathers these up and head inside." Tai said they picked what was left. Tai grabbed the box and headed back to the house.

Inside the house Raven was just as surprised that Glynda had shown up to the house but Raven immediately noticed that the vice headmistress was beyond tired as their were dark ciricles underneath her eyes as Raven placed a drink in front of her.

"Here. This should perk you up." Raven said before sitting acrossed from the older woman.

"Thank you." Glynda thanked tiredly taking the drink and drank a little from it.

"Now care to ask what you're doing on Patch? Kinda strange for you to show up uninvited." Raven questioned.

"It's been...a trying few days as of late thanks to what had happened." Glynda said putting a hand on her head.

"Trying to clear out grimm and repair any damages that have been has brought me to my limit. Professor Port and Oobleck said I needed to rest before I burned myself out from all the work I've been doing. Honestly it's been frustrating." Glynda stated.

"They're probably just looking out for you." Raven said.

"I know that...but everything is still utter chaos. Their is also another reason why I came here. I've come to ask for your help." Glynda replied.

"For what exactly?" Raven questioned.

"So far we've eliminated around thirty to forty percent of the grimm thus far but their are still many of them left. I need your help to eliminate the rest of them, if we can eliminate all the grimm then we can focus on repairs." Glynda said.

"So you've come to ask for my help. I'm guessing their's more than just that right." Raven said.

"The soldiers that were left behind are doing what they can to keep the grimm back along side Port and Oobleck but even they can only do so much. I need your help and any other person that can help. I know I shouldn't suggest but Ruby and Yang have proven that they can handle grimm." Glynda replied.

"Well they have gone on their morning jog and they probably won't be back for another half hour. If you'd like to wait here then we can talk to them." Raven said.

"Where did they go anyway?" Mercury asked.

"They took a lap around the island. Good for a workout for them." Raven answered like it was a regular thing.

Mercury only stared at Raven "Seriously. Given how big the island is? How long you think it'll take for them to get back?" He asked.

"Oh... about an hour and half give or take." Raven replied as Tai and Emerald entered the kitchen with the box of vegetables he was carrying.

"I figured that was you I saw back their Glynda. What's the occasion?" Tai asked.

"She want's help clearing out the rest of the grimm in Vale. Then after that they'll start repairs. Which is why we're waiting on Ruby and Yang to get back. I'm sure they'll want to assist in helping." Raven said as they all waited for Ruby and Yang to come back from the jog.

=RWBY=

An hour later Ruby and Yang were in the home stretch as they were almost back home running past the market and then the path that leads home. Another five minutes and they were finally in front of the house as they came to a stop.

"I swear...I feel like I lost...five pounds from that run." Ruby breathed feeling rather exhausted.

"Correction. You've lost three and a half pounds Ruby." Penny stated from her scroll.

Ruby pulled out her scroll "Thanks Penny." She said.

"Also both you and Yang have exerted thirty percent of your aura. To exceed full recovery is estimated around fifteen minutes." Penny stated.

"Guess a quick shower would do after the running we did." Yang said they headed inside.

Though when they got inside they immediately noticed Glynda and everyone else waiting for them.

"Um...did we miss something?" Ruby asked.

Raven only chuckled before answering "Why don't you two shower first. Then we got something we need to tell you." Raven said and taking her advice the two of them headed upstairs to shower.

After freshening up from their showers Yang and Ruby were downstairs but everyone seemed to move to the living room instead of the kitchen. Mercury and Emerald were on the couch along with Neo sitting between them with Zwei in her lap. Tai was in a chair and Raven sat in his lap while Ruby and Yang were standing right by them as Glynda standing in front of them.

"I'm sure you're aware the currentl situation that has befallen Vale. With that amount of grimm that have been eliminated we're still a long way from making Vale liveable again. If we can get the grimm down to where it is managable then we can focus on repairing the damage done from the attack." Glynda stated.

"And this concerns us how?" Mercury asked.

"With how limited we are on men and just how big Vale is we were hoping to recruit people that know the territory better than anyone other than myself. And I know that all of you know the territory." Glynda replied looking right at Neo who slightly blushed at the gaze.

"Since you all know the territory you could help us." Glynda said.

"Honestly that would be a good thing to clear them out or at least make it manageable for them to take care of." Mercury added.

"Good idea." Emerald replied agreeing with him as Neo nodded as well.

"Though before we decide to fly off the handle and take care of the grimm you need to at least rest for a few hours." Raven suggested.

"I appreciate it. Hope it's not a bother." Glynda replied.

"Here you can rest in the guest room. We'll wake you up in a few hours." Tai said as he led Glynda upstairs.

"I can do weapon maintance of everyones weapons before we head out." Ruby suggested.

"Great idea. That way we're not worrying about backfiring." Yang said.

"I'll go grab their weapons. Also could I talk to you a moment... in private." Raven said which confused Ruby as she didn't know what Raven was wanting to talk to her about so she decided to follow her to grab everyones weapons.

It was a small storage closet which had everyones weapons in them but it was also private enough so that no one else could hear them.

Raven pulled out a drawer revealing Yangs Ember Celica as she passed them to Ruby. Thorn Gear was just to the left of the drawer along with a pink umbrella as she figured that might be Neos along with two long barreled pistols that were obviously Emeralds.

"So um...what do you want to talk about Auntie?" Ruby asked almost innocently. At first Raven didn't want to speak to Ruby about it then she'll find out eventually.

"Ruby...do you know why you have silver eyes?" Raven asked which Ruby was taken aback from.

"Um...I just thought I inherited it from mom. Why?" Ruby asked back.

"Some families do have an inherited gene of silver eyes but did you know their is a story about a group of people known as the Silver eyed warriors." Raven started.

"A story about them? I don't think I knew there was one." Ruby said.

"Yeah they say that even the grimm stay away from them. Remember what you did their on top of Beacon Tower? You're eyes were triggered through your emotions." Raven said as Ruby's expression sombered a little.

"Though...their is a darker side to those that have silver eyes as well." Raven added.

"What do you mean...darker side?" Ruby questioned.

"No turning back now." Raven thought.

"If someone with silver eyes are subjected to feelings of anger...they will destroy anything or anyone that is in their way. Whether they are friend or foe." Raven replied as Ruby wide eyed at this.

"But...that wouldn't happen to me...will it?" Ruby asked almost nervously.

"You don't know that Ruby. Even Summer...had felt the other half of the silver eyes and it scared her." Raven said.

"Then why are you telling me this?" Ruby questioned.

"It is so that you can keep your emotions in check. Especially with how emotional you can get." Raven replied.

"I...understand." Ruby said though she was still rather unsure.

Raven noticed it and put a hand on her head "Hey you'll be fine. Just don't focus on it so much." Raven said as the two of them left so that Ruby could go over their weapons.

=RWBY=

Meanwhile Yang was outside looking over her bike making sure it was working properly after everything that has happened. She had a set of tools next to her as she began making adjustments.

Though she heard some steps coming from behind her and noticed that it was Mercury standing their.

"Say um...you need some help their?" He asked offering his help.

Yang only narrowed her gaze almost completely uninterested.

"Nah. I'm good." Yang said as she went back to working on her bike taking a wrench from her toolbox before tightening up a bolt.

Mercury sighed as he rubbed his temple trying to figure out what to do next.

"Look if it's about what happened during the tournament then I just want to-" Mercury tried to spit out but Yang cut him off.

"Oh you mean the one that you faked an injury and got myself and the team disqualifed. Yeah doesn't exactly paint you in a good light we me." Yang said angrily her eyes turning red.

"It wasn't like I had a choice to do that you know. They would've hurt Neo or worse. Something I rather not have on weighing on my mind." Mercury said.

Though Yang didn't exactly take his words to heart as she put the wrench back in the toolbox as she stood up.

"By making me look like a criminal!" Yang shouted her right fist shaking almost wanting to punch something. However she immediately noticed this as she grabbed her right wrist and controlled her breathing trying to calm herself.

After about a minute she was able to calm herself as her eyes returned to their lilac color.

"You don't know what it's like...being judged when someone is looking at you." Yang said before turning back to her work.

"I'm just trying to apologize to you. I know what I did wasn't the best thing to do. What would you have done if Ruby was in that position?" Mercury questioned.

Yang stopped not sure how to answer that question "See. Can't answer that can you. Something you don't want to do even if you have no choice." Mercury said.

"You can hate me all you like but let me tell you again that I had no other choice even if I wanted to go against them. I couldn't risk Neo getting killed." Mercury said as he then walked away from Yang leaving her to work on her bike as she let out a sigh not sure how to take what he said.

Ruby was now inside the workshop again looking over everyones weapons making sure that they would function properly and make sure they were all cleaned. She already cleaned Yang's weapons and even added a few modifications to improve accuracy without damaging the firepower.

She was currently working on Emeralds weapons as she focused on sharpening the blades so that it wouldn't dull. She also made sure to clean the inside of the barrel so that it doesn't explode on her when she uses it.

"Okay Penny. How's it looking?" Ruby asked Penny showing her the weapon.

Penny seemed to examine the weapon carefully before giving her opinion.

"The barrel is clean however the firing mechenism is loose prohibeting it from firing bullets effectively." Penny said showing the schmatics of the inside of the weapon as she flashed something red above the trigger.

"Alright I'll get that fix before anything else." Ruby said as she took her tools and began carefully unscrewing the weapons side. Ruby was able to find the problem as the firing pin was almost completely worn out. She went into one of the drawers and pulled out a firing pin that seemed like it would match Emerald's weapon.

She carefully replaced the firing pin making sure it was fully connected and then rescrewed the covering making sure it was tight. She then tested it to make sure it would fire like it should. She pulled the trigger and as she heard a click.

The tested the trigger several times and gave an approved nod.

"So how's it going kiddo." Emerald said behind her surprising Ruby as she let out a yelp.

"Emerald! Don't do that!" Ruby shouted at the green hair teen.

"Sorry. Just wanted to see how things were going." Emerald said looking around the place.

"Gotta say. Nice set up you got here. I'm guessing this is where you made your weapon right." Emerald said.

Ruby nodded "Well technically I make them at Signal Academy. Everyone has to make a weapon from scratch." Ruby said almost nonchalantly.

"Really. No wonder your so good with them." She commented which made Ruby blush slightly at the praise.

Emerald then went over to her own weapon and noticed the careful work done to it as it still feels the same yet not at the same time.

"I replaced the firing pin for a new one that was stronger. So it should increase the fire rate just a bit and I also made sure both barrels were cleaned so that it wouldn't risk backfiring on you. I aslo sharpened the blades too." Ruby stated.

"Thanks. You have a real knack for this you know." Emerald commented.

"It's not much really. It's like the weapons talk to me with what they need. People though...are a lot tougher to figure out." Ruby stated.

"I may not get the feeling of how that's like but you looked like you're improving on that." Emerald said.

"Yeah...I guess." Ruby said as her foot patted the wooden floor beneath her.

Emerald noted that almost like she was making Ruby uncomfortable then she got an idea that might help her makes thing more comfortable.

"Say um...I know this might be out of the blue but...you think you can show me how to maintane my weapon. If you don't mind." Emerald said and almost immediately Ruby's mood changed.

"Sure!" Ruby cheered as the two of them sat down as Ruby went through explaining of weapon maintance.

=RWBY=

After three hours Glynda was able to get herself some rest as it was now reaching mid-day. Ruby returned everyones weapons as Glynda went over what their goal is.

"Alright. Now that we're all here I'll go over the basics of this mission." Glynda said setting her scroll down in front of everyone as a holographic projection of Vale appeared.

"Out of the sections that have been cleared out the market and half of the residental have benn cleared out from grimm. However their is still the shopping district and the pier that still have grimm. We have those sections contained for the time being but were not sure for how long that'll last. We'll rendezvous with Port and Oobleck in the market district where we've set up home base. From their we'll discuss how to proceed." Glynda stated before pressing something on her scroll.

Just then everyone's scroll beeped as they recieved the same thing that was on Glynda's scroll.

"This will be incase you get lost. Now then does everyone understand what we're getting into?" Glynda asked as everyone nodded.

"Well you all better be careful out their." Tai said.

"You not coming dad?" Yang asked.

"Hey someones gotta hold down the fort you know. Besides with how long it's been since I been on mission I'd rather not slow you all down." Tai said.

Raven slightly chuckled at this but she didn't want to argue "Alright. Maybe once we're done you can fix up a nice dinner for everyone. Sound good." Raven replied.

"Oh now you say that. Guess I better start early then." Tai said as he walked toward the kitchen.

A small bark got Ruby's attention almost like he wanted to go to.

"Sorry Zwei. Can't bring you this time okay. You gotta keep dad company. Think you can do that?" Ruby asked her dog as it barked twice as Ruby petted him.

"Good boy. We'll be back soon." Ruby said as she and the others walked out the door and headed toward the docks. They reserved the ferry to head straight toward Vale which shouldn't take them long to get their.

Glynda and Raven were talking on the front deck while Ruby was discussing plans of taking out the grimm with Neo who would sign out any suggestions. Yang simply leaned against the wall waiting for them to get their with her eyes closed almost like she was contemplating as Emerald and Mercury were looking out toward the open ocean.

Though Mercury glanced back to Yang almost every five minutes arguing with himself about apologizing from how he acted.

"Still trying to get through to her." Emerald said.

Mercury only scoffed "Oh stuff it will you. She's just stubborn." Mercury said.

"Hey you've got to give it another go. Keep on trying." Emerald added.

"Oh trying to apologize to her is like antagonizing a dragon. You'll only get burned." He replied not agreeing with her.

"Still. You've got to correct things now and not leave them be. It won't end well." Emerald suggested.

"I know that but..." Mercury said but eventually he sighed as he took her words to heart and headed over to where Yang was.

"Um...hey look about what I said earlier I..." Mercury began but Yang stopped him.

"You were right." Yang said immediately which made him to a double take.

"Huh?" He questioned.

"If it was Ruby in that position than...I guess would've done what you did during the tournament. I...was just holding my anger in till you came to speak with me. Sorry about that." Yang apologized.

Mercury was honestly surprised that it was her that apologized even though he was trying to do the same.

"Does that mean?" He said.

Yang only nodded "Yeah...apology accepted." Yang said.

"You know you're a rather big softy underneath that hard exterior." Mercury replied crossing his arms.

"Yeah just don't get too used to it. You still owe me a rematch." Yang said with a cocky smirk.

"I think that's my line you know." Mercury said as the two of them laughed about it.

It was an hour later that they arrived at a separate docking point from the pier as they disembarked from the ferry.

"Alright remember their are still grimm lurking about so be prepared for anything. First we have to rendezvous with Port and Oobleck and discuss a battle plan. Let's move out." Glynda said as the group of seven headed toward the rendezvous point and hopefully that the other two professors were still alive and kicking so that they could clear out the grimm.
