F3: Welcome to chapter 5. Last time we left off was with everyone heading to Vale to handle some grimm extermination on Glynda's request. RWBY is property of Rooster Teeth. OC characters will be given credited to author(s). With that said Let's Dive In!

Volume 4-5 EX: Grimm Mission (Part 2)

After landing in Vale the group of seven had began to traverse through the destroyed city but it didn't make things easier for them to digest seeing everything in ruins. Cars were either destroyed or flipped over still burning with fire from them. Buildings were missing their windows at they were cracked and had smoke coming out. Light poles were bent and the light bulbs were flickering.

It was as worse as they thought.

"Unbelievable. The White Fang caused this much damage in only a few hours." Mercury said.

"We don't think it was just the Fang. Individuals reported seeing a scorpion faunus fleeing the area. They also said this faunus was killing people left and right without any concern of safety. What remains of the police are trying to sort out those that have died and trying to identify them." Glynda said.

"Probably a good thing that we're here then. Let's find Port and Oobleck so we can sort things out." Raven added.

"We should form up incase things go south. Raven, Mercury and Neo you three are the vanguards, if any grimm gets too close turn to ashes." Glynda pointed out.

"Yang and I will provide cover in the center. Yangs weapon is more than an up close weapon as I've seen before." Glynda replied as that only left two of them.

"Emerald, Ruby you two will be the rearguards. Ruby you can provide long range cover while Emeralds semblance can confuse our opponents. Everyone understand." Glynda said as they all nodded.

They separated into their groups as Mercury, Raven, and Neo took lead. Glynda made sure to give them directions to where to go. So far they haven't encountered any grimm which was lucky for them cause more than likely the grimm are in the other areas ahead.

They were now running through another part of the city but something caught Ruby's eye as she stopped a moment.

Emerald saw this called the others to stop as well "Ruby? Is something up?" Emerald asked.

Ruby went over to a pile of rubble but she noticed that it was on top of something. She moved some of the rubble trying to clear it but that was when she saw what was left of a glavie type weapon but it looked like the blade only.

"Oh no. It's Kitsune." Ruby replied bringing the piece toward her.

"Kitsune?" Emerald questioned getting everyones attention.

"Stars weapon. The rest of it must've been destroyed cause this was all I could find." Ruby added.

"Could that mean Star's okay?" Yang asked.

"I'm not sure. Not a whole lot to go from just this. She must've been trying to get to the evac point just like everyone else but got caught up in a fight especially if whoever she fought could do this." Ruby replied.

"Still you should probably hang on to it. Never know if it could be useful." Raven suggested.

The group then refocused on the task at hand.

Twenty minutes later they arrived at the market district and they saw that a small camp was made just ahead as Glynda saw the two professors along with the other two professors.

"Good to see that you all are still alive." Glynda greeted.

"And you look better than you were yesterday Glynda." Port replied before noticing the others.

"Ah and I see you've brought reinforcements. Excellent." He added.

"I wouldn't call it much of reinforcements." Harold stated folding his arms.

"Oh come now give them a break. I'm sure they had their own troubles." Peach added with as she approached them.

"Did you all have a save trip?" Peach questioned.

"Yes. Thank you for asking Miss Peach." Yang replied.

"Hold on what about Miss Greene? Where is she?" Ruby asked noticing the missing professor.

"I'm afraid she's been called away to Atlas for some reason and will not be back for some time." Oobleck answered.

"I'm sure that with all of us here we can handle most of the grimm. Has Glynda filled you in on the details already?" Harold asked.

"Yeah she filled us in on what needs to be done." Mercury answered him.

"Good then with the eleven of us I'm sure we can leave a good dent in the grimm that are populating here. However we still need to excersize caution in case we run into any trouble." Port replied.

"So who's with who?" Raven asked.

"Well we've already gotten the market place here secure so their only three other locations that we need cleared of any major threats. Miss Peach has offered to stay behind incase any of us are injured and need medical attention." Harold replied.

"For now we'll go with two groups of three and a group of four. As for the groups to be assigned it'll be Yang, Emerald, and Oobleck will head toward the business district and clear them out as best you can. Make sure to aim for the more difficult grimm, the smaller grimm will be much easier to take out." Harold said.

"Myself, Miss Rose, and Mercury will head toward the CCT Tower." He stated however Glynda spoke up.

"If I may Harold... I would like to take your place instead if you don't mind." Glynda said adamantly.

"If that's what you like than fine. That only leaves a myself, Raven, Neo, and Port. We'll head toward downtown and handle the grimm their. Everyone in agreement?" Harold asked as they all nodded.

"Alright we all have our tasks so let's get them done." Harold replied as they all separated into their groups to take care of the grimm.

It took about fifteen minutes to get to where Glynda, Ruby, and Mercury needed to be as they arrived at the outer priemeter of the tower and noticed the amount of grimm that were around. It was mainly beowolves, with very few Ursas about.

"Doesn't look like too much trouble really. Just about maybe thirty or so." Ruby replied.

"Not too much trouble. You call this too much trouble." Mercury replied not sure how to find an approach.

"Please I took down a whole pack of these guys by myself no problem. Though the Ursas are going to be tricky to deal with especially with having to deal with that up their." Ruby pointed out.

They both looked up and nearly froze on the stop at what they saw up on the tower.

It's large raptor-like grimm with large, translucent red wings with visible veins. It has a bone like spines on its neck and tail almost resembling feather quills. Their toes are also raptor like hooked claws.

"What in the name of Remnant is that?" Mercury whispered asking Glynda.

"Don't look at me. First time I've ever seen it." Glynda answered back.

However Ruby remembered having to work on the exam before the tournament. Then it came to her as she remembered what the name of the grimm.

"Wait... that's a Teryx. Though they normally are from Solitas so what brings it here." Ruby replied.

"Well whatever we have to take care of it then we can dwindle down these guys." Mercury suggested.

"Okay. So here's the plan. Mercury your kicks are strong so I bet you can penetrate the defenses on the Ursas. Take care of them quickly. Glynda use your semblance to hold the beowolves back if you can kill them then that'll be better." Ruby said.

"Then how do we deal with that Teryx up their." Mercury said pointing toward the grimm.

"I'll try and get it's attention to see if their is a weak point. If their is then we'll be able to kill it." Ruby replied.

"We'll have to improvise when that thing attacks us so hope you both are ready for a fight." Glynda said as she brought out her crop.

Ruby unsheathed Thorn Gear and transformed it into its sniper mode. Mercury simply cracked his knuckles as he was ready to fight.

"Alright let's go!" Ruby shouted as Glynda was the first to engaged using her levitation semblance she floated fallen debris and threw it at the first beowolfs she saw and the rock shattered on impact successfully killing the two of them. Mercury got into a running stance before taking off like a shot toward a nearby Ursa.

The Ursa roared but was quickly silenced by the metal boot hitting it's jaw knocking it over but didn't kill it immediately. The other grimm saw this and decided to attack the gray haired boy but he was expecting it. He ducked the beowolf lunging at him before kicking away another one, a third tried it's luck but was met with Glyndas semblance grabbing it mid lounge as she tossed it toward some spiked debris skewering it as it dissolved.

An Ursa ran up to Mercury swiping him with his paw just as he swung his leg at the paw causing a stalemate. Glynda used more debris from around her as projectiles and launched them at the beowolves that were charging at having no issue dispatching them.

Above it all on it's perch the Teryx looked down almost seemingly uninterested in the fight between the humans and the other grimm. However a shot fired caught it's attention as a bullet bounced off it's scaled body as it looked to its left seeing the perpatraitor.

Ruby focused in on the grimm on the tower and fired another shot at it but only to get the same result only the bullet bouncing off the grimm. The Teryx roared at the girl as it reared up unfolding its wings to full length before taking to the skies flying directly toward Ruby.

Seeing that she got it's attention she channeled her semblance as she sped toward it but just as she got close she bolted upward landing on its back as quickly shifted her weapon to its sycthe mode and began slashing at it's back but the armored skin was too thick for her to penatrate.

Being annoyed of the nuisance it rolled in the air to get rid of the small huntress on its back. Ruby saw that it was trying to get rid of her so she grabbed hold of a spike and held on for dear life however her grip slipped as she fell toward the ground. The grimm took advantage of this as it turned it's head and then breathing out an icy breath toward the young girl.

Using her semblance again she sped toward the ground leaving behind rose petals in her wake but were frozen over by the grimms breath. She landed safely on the ground looking up as the beast zone in on her.

"Ruby I have determined the grimms weakpoint." Pennys voice said from her scroll that it was loud enough for Ruby to hear.

"I'm all ears." Ruby stated.

"While the exterior of the grimm is impenatrable due to current weapon it's interior is vunerable to attacks." Penny replied.

"Wait but wouldn't I have to get like super close to its mouth for that to happen." Ruby said nervously.

"Correct. The only time that it'll be vunerable is when it opens its mouth. It'll be a small window to hit." Penny said.

"I'm not so sure that will work. I'll be pushing my aura to use my semblance quiet a bit to get up their." Ruby replied.

"You have approximately seventy percent of your aura. Use it wisely." Penny advised.

"Wouldn't I give to have Weiss's semblance right now." She thought begrudingly. However she looked around trying to find a better way up to that Teryx. She then turned to Glynda who was still dealing with the grimm and she was managing to handle the grimm that were coming her way.

"Glynda! I need a boost to get to that grimm!" Ruby called out. Glynda looked up with a worried look at the Teryx and then at Ruby.

"Are you sure you can handle it?" Glynda asked as Ruby nodded confidently.

Glynda sighed as she raised her crop in Rubys direction as she felt her semblance envelope her. Then with a flick of her wrist Ruby shot upward straight at the grimm flying right at her the moment she came into range.

Ruby came into range as she activated her semblance to move around the grimm trying to confuse it but the grimm was smarter than she thought. It began to spin in mid air spreading it's wings as it managed to hit the young teen with its right wing knocking her away as she hit the side of a building hard. Ruby groaned as she felt like she was implanted into the wall as her aura flickered from the impact.

"Aura levels at forty five percent." Penny reminded.

Ruby was running out of aura and fast so she had to end this and fast. Using her semblance she blasted off the wall directly right at the grimm.

"C'mon big guy show that smile." She thought waiting for the right time.

Luckily she didn't have to wait long as the grimm reared its head back like it was going to breath it's ice breath again then it lurched forward and opened it's mouth. That was Ruby's opening as she cancel her semblance as she had her weapon in its sniper mode loading an explosive shot. Time seemed to crawl at a snails pace as Ruby lined herself up with the grimms mouth.

The pulled the trigger as a loud bang was heard as a burning bullet came out of the barrel heading right for the grimms mouth. It was dead center as the bullet hit inside the mouth of the grimm just before it could attack.

The grimm roared in pain as small explosions began erupting inside it's body as it was blowing it apart. Until one final explosion destroyed the grimm entirely as the blast also hit Ruby as she plummeted toward the ground her aura barely holding.

"Aura level at ten percent. Reaching critical damage." Penny said as Ruby braced herself for impact to the ground.

Mercury however was one step ahead of her as he ran underneath waiting for the right time to catch her. He then jumped in the air high enough to catch her making sure his back was facing away as he took the impact as he rolled with her cushioning the blow them both rolling to the ground.

"Still with us kid?" Mercury asked.

"Yeah... I'm okay." Ruby stated though her aura level said differently.

"Rubys aura level is currently ten percent. Require rest before continuing combat." Penny stated.

"Ms. Goodwitch I think it's a good time for us to retreat." Mercury stated.

"Yes. We've defeated the large grimm occupying this area. These others shouldn't be much difficult to defeat later." Glynda added as she threw more debris at the grimm before giving them the cue to run as Mercury picked up Ruby and ran with her in his arms with Glynda on their heels. The grimm however gave chase after them not wanting their prey to get away but was quickly met with a fire wall the Glynda created blocking them from escaping while the three of them ran.

They quickly found an alley way to hide in so they could recover from their fight as Mercury set Ruby down.

"You sure you're okay. Nothing broken?" Mercury asked again.

"I'm fine really." Ruby said as tried to get up but a bolt of pain came from her back letting out a hiss as she slid back down.

Ruby reached into her skirt to fetch her scroll as Penny appeared on the screen.

"Ruby I have detected no internal damage to your body. However I'm detecting bruising in the middle to the base of your back." Penny stated Rubys current possible injury.

Glynda walked over to the young huntress and kneeled down.

"Let me take a look. Mercury I need to you look out for any grimm." Glynda ordered as he nodded heading toward the edge of the alley way.

Ruby turned her back toward Glynda with a small blush on her cheeks almost embarrassed by the situation.

Glynda carefully moved the cape out of the way before moving on the next piece of clothing.

"I'm going to raise your blouse to examine the bruise okay." Glynda replied gently as Ruby nodded. Then as carefully as Glynda could she slowly grabbed the hem of the blouse and lifted slowly.

She could already see the extent of the bruise before reaching the middle of her back like what Penny stated. The bruise looked like a large red rash over her back but some spots were already starting to turn purple due to Rubys low aura.

"How bad is it?" Ruby asked.

"It's starting to turn purple but for now it's like a big red rash on your back. We should head back to Miss Peach. I'm sure she might have something that'll speed up the healing process." Glynda stated before lowering the teens blouse and straightening it out.

"That's good to hear at least." Ruby said as she carefully got back up with some assistance from Glynda.

"No sign of any grimm. Lucky us." Mercury said.

"Very well. Let us return to the camp." Glynda replied as the three of them began making their way back to camp.

=RWBY=

A beowolf was sent flying into the air before being riddled with bullets on it's lower stomach howling in pain before vanishing like dust in the wind.

"Excellent work you two." Oobleck comment as Yang and Emerald high fived each other.

"Too easy." Yang declared.

"I advise you take caution. Just because you both defeated the grimm their are more than likely many more out their." Oobleck warned.

"Yeah we know but this is a good way to work on our teamwork." Yang said.

"We should take his advice seriously Yang. One wrong move and we might end up grimm food." Emerald stated as well.

"I get it. So far we're just encountering the appetizers. I'm sure the main course is here somewhere." Yang said almost itching to get into another fight.

"Only you can make a situation like this about food." Emerald said.

"Just trying to lighten the mood in a grimm situation am I right." Yang joked as Emerald groaned.

"That... was the worst pun ever you know that." She stated.

"Let's refocus on the task at hand. Keep your eyes open for any more grimm." Oobleck stated as the three of them walked forward.

For another ten minutes they encountered some of the usual grimm from beowolves to boaratusks as they were quickly dispatched by the two teens and professor as they ventured forward into the business district.

However a small noise caught Yangs attention almost like something was scurrying around.

"Is everything alright Yang?" Oobleck asked.

Yang shrugged "Sorry I thought I saw something..." Yang said while turning to her partner but instead was met with the face of an ursa grimm.

"Look out!" Yang shouted as she engaged her weapon and threw a punch right at the face of the ursa knocking it away.

Emerald didn't know what she was expecting when Yang hit her squarely in the jaw sending her flying into a some debris.

"Miss Xioa Long their was no need for that!" Oobleck shouted.

"But their's a grimm right in front of us." Yang said pointing out toward Emerald who was slowlyg getting up.

"Ow... damn it Yang what has gotten into you." Emerald groaned but had to move as Yang charged her again. This time she was able to move out of the way in time as Yang punched at the ground where she stood.

"Doc do something!? What's gotten into her!?" Emerald shouted dodging another punch.

Oobleck carefully looked over the blonde brawler trying to find the source of the problem or if their was a problem. Just as Yang threw another punch he saw something that shimmered slightly that looked like a web attached to the back of Yangs neck. He followed the string of web trying to figure out where it goes.

"Mrs Sustrai try and hold Yang off for a little bit. I think I've discovered the problem." Oobleck stated as he ran off ahead of them.

Emerald only groaned not particulary happy having to deal with Yang that think she's a grimm but hopefully the professor can find the solution jumping away from another punch.

Oobleck followed the web string as he figured that a grimm must be behind this and he knows just what it is but the issue is about finding the grimm as this one was small but it is rather dangerous.

He heard something trying to come from behind him as he brought out his thermos as it transformed into a small flamethrower and pointed it in front of him. He pressed a small button on his glasses that activated an x-ray vision mode allowing him to keep track of his surroundings or follow certain trails.

The string of web appeared on his x-ray vision and luckily he didn't have to look very far as it led him to where the grimm was. Just like he originally thought it was a small spider grimm that the web was attached to.

"Found you little troublemaker." He stated as he blasted a fireball from his weapon hitting where the grimm was hiding. The grimm itself was small but big enough to see as it has eight legs and a pair of small fangs on it's front.

"I'm afraid you have to go you. You're making one of my students very upset at the moment." He said blasting another fireball at the grimm. However the spider grimm jumped to dodge the attack before spitting a web at the professor. He rolled out of the way to avoid the web before taking another shot at the spider but everytime he shot at the grimm it moved away from it's shots.

"Seems like I need to predict where it's going to go after it dodges my attacks. Not too hard." Oobleck thought.

This time getting a full grasp at how the grimm moved he deployed a fireball to the grimms left as it moved right and just as quick deployed another one directly hitting the grimm as it fell to the ground. Taking advantage he set his thermos and fire a stream of fire at the grimm as it burned it alive hopefully that he wasn't too late taking it out.

Meanwhile at the same time Emerald took another blow from Yang as she hit the side of the wall her aura taking more damage as she already has below thirty percent and she couldn't risk taking another.

"You're a hard grimm to take down. Makes me really let loose." Yang replied as she cracked her knuckles as she went in for the kill. Emerald braced herself for a hit as Yang reel her right fist back and aimed for her face.

However the hit never came as she looked ahead only to see the fist stopping just in front of her nose.

"Emerald... what's going on? Where's the grimm?" Yang asked completely confused.

Emerald stood up to catch her breath "Their... was no grimm... something made you see me as a grimm." She stated.

"Okay... how?" Yang asked.

"I can answer that." Oobleck said coming from behind them getting their attention.

"To answer your question Yang it was a spider grimm. Somehow during our venture through here it attached a string of web to the back of your neck. Grimm like that are known to cause illusions to their prey while also feeding off their aura." Oobleck stated.

Yang instinctively checked her scroll and seeing that her aura was down at twenty five percent.

"Whoa! I didn't even know it got that low." Yang added.

"You were so focused on taking out the 'grimm' in front of you that you didn't realize it." Oobleck said.

"Anymore grimm around? Cause I'm not seeing any." Emerald said.

"It would be best if we withdraw for now and allow your auras to recover." Oobleck stated as they both agreed with him to withdraw.

=RWBY=

Glynda and company arrived back at the camp and explained about Ruby's bruise on her back that needed treatment. Peach took Ruby a moment for some privacy and to treat the bruise as the two of them waited though Glynda couldn't help worry slightly.

"You seemed a bit tense. Everything okay?" Mercury asked.

Glynda paused a moment "Before Ozpin died he wanted me to make sure to keep Ruby safe from any danger. Can't exactly do that if she keeps throwing herself into danger." Glynda replied.

"Hey it's good that you're looking out for her but I'm sure she can handle herself." Mercury said.

"True but she is still young as is all of you." Glynda replied. For now all they could do is wait.

A few moments later Oobleck, Yang, and Emerald returned as well walking up to them.

"Guess you guys thought of the same thing too." Yang said.

"How'd it go on your guys end?" Emerald asked.

"Took down a Teryx and eliminated most of the grimm near the CCT Tower but we didn't come out of it unscathed." Mercury said.

"Ruby has some bruising on her back in which Professor Peach is looking at her right now." Glynda stated. It made Yang worry some but knows that Peach specialized in medical herbs.

However Peach came out to meet with Glynda.

"How's Ruby? Her bruise healing." Glynda said as they all listened to Peach.

"I put an oientment on her back to help her aura recover. But apparently she didn't tell you about her having a cracked rib. I felt it when I was checking her over for any other injuries and she flinch when I felt her right side. Definately a cracked rib. Her aura is working overtime to heal it right now." Peach explained.

Yang groaned shaking her head "Ruby. Damn it sis." She muttered.

"Any word from Harold and the others?" Glynda asked.

Peach only shook her head "Nothing yet. They're heading toward the downtown area. Hopefully they haven't run into any complications." Peach replied.

"If I know Harold he most likely have." Oobleck stated as they waited for them to hear a response from Harold and the others.

Meanwhile in the downtown area Neo had finished stabbing a boartusk in the stomach after getting it to flip onto it's back as it dissolved into dust. Port and Harold double teamed a group of grimm of about ten as professor Port hacked away at them with his axe while Harold clobbered them with his battle hammer that had what looked like a small rocket engine in the back.

Raven was fairing well as she sliced all matter of grimm in her way expertly aiming for weak points and exploiting them for quick kills. She sheathed her blade as the tumbler of her sheath rotated to a blue color before unsheathing it again but this time the blade was the same color chosen as she slashed the air unleashing a barrage of ice at the grimm freezing them on contact before smashing them to pieces.

After clearing the grimm around them they moved forward.

"Everyone okay after that?" Raven asked. Neo gave her a quick thumbs up as she was still raring to go.

"No injuries though it seems our old man here is starting to lose his touch." Harold replied referring to Port.

"Oh come now. I maybe old but back in my hay day I could kill hundreds of grimm without batting an eye." Port said confidently as he gave a hearty laugh which only resulted with Neo rolling her eyes.

"Whatever you say gramps but we still got a job to do. Any eyes on the grimm that's here?" Raven asked.

"No. My guess it must be-" Harold started but a startling sound stopped him that sound like a horn.

Neo however noticed that the water nearby was starting to ripple almost like something big was coming their way.

"That... does not sound good." Harold said.

"Get ready everyone." Raven added as they readied for what was coming towards them.

The sound was getting closer as the footsteps echoed, sounding heavy from every step. Everyone steeled themselves for the worse or whatever grimm they were about to come face to face with.

Then it came into view which made them look upon it with complete shock. The grimm itself towered over them casting a shadow as it has black skin with bones of a grimm coloring it's body from the head to tail. It's rather large head revealed it's massive teeth and small yellow beady eyes. It has powerful legs but tiny arms. However on it's left eye was some kind of scar that looked like it was done quite some time ago.

"By the brothers. What on Remnant is that!?" Harold shouted completely stunned by the sheer size of the beast.

Raven however smirked at the beast "So we meet again. Liking that scar I gave you well you got off lucky that time but this time I'm putting an end to you." Raven replied almost knowing the grimm itself.

The giant grimm noticed the woman and growled at her like it remembered what she did to it.

"Get ready. Here it comes." Port stated readying themselves as the grimm let out an earth shattering roar that would shake even the expert of huntsman before charging at it's adversaries.
