Volume 4-6 EX: Grimm Mission (Part 3)
Back with the others at the encampment as they were recovering from their own fights as their auras were steadily rising. However their relaxing was cut off by the sound of a loud roar that echoed everywhere.
"What in the high heavens was that!?" Emerald asked looking around for the source of the sound.
"That came from the downtown area. Must've been a grimm." Glynda stated.
"You sure? Has to be a large grimm to make a sound like that." Yang added.
Oobleck however pushed up his glasses in thought before he spoke "Could it be that grimm?" He said getting everyones attention.
"That grimm? What are you talking about?" Mercury asked.
Oobleck looked at Glynda almost like she knew what he was talking about.
"A grimm of large size that would not even a griffon could even match in sheer size. They call it a Predator." Glynda replied.
"A Predator? I don't think I've heard of that kind." Emerald stated.
"That's because this particular grimm is so rare that as far as we know their are only two that we know of. I believe that roar came from a Preditor." Glynda explained.
"Okay... so what do they look like?" Yang asked curiously.
Glynda closed her eyes a moment almost like she was trying to picture the beast in her head as she remembered it.
"Picture yourself a monster that is built for running along with a sturdy body, large mouth for chomping at anything it lays it's eyes on and with a tail that will put your light out in one hit. That is a Predator." Glynda replied.
"Okay that definately sounds like a grimm even I wouldn't want to mess with." Yang replied.
"Indeed. It's a difficult beast to kill due to its massive size and not many huntsmen have ever walked away from it. Luckily we have someone that has walked away from it and lived to tell about it." Oobleck stated.
"Really? And who would that be?" Emerald asked.
"Raven. She fought that grimm before and nearly escaped." Glynda replied.
"Wait. Mom fought that thing before! Then we got to go and help them out." Yang said.
"Not until everyone's aura has recovered. You don't want to fight it with low aura. Besides I'm sure they can handle it." Glynda said confidently though she doesn't show it she's a little worried about the group as well.

Meanwhile the Predator charged at the four of them aiming to kill all of them for trespassing on its territory.
"Everyone scatter!" Raven ordered as they split away just in time before the grimm could stomp on them. It then swiped at them with his tail but not directly aiming at them but more like causing a gust of wind to blow at them almost knocking them all off balance.
"How do we deal with this thing?!" Harold called out.
"The size of that thing is more than anything I've ever seen!" Port stated.
Neo only gulped nervously unsure how to handle such a monster. However Raven was coming up with a strategy to handle it as she recalled from her last encounter with the monster.
"Alright here's the plan. Port, Harold I need you to aim for its legs and try to knock it off balance. It's best to hit it from the side or from the back. Neo use your semblance to get behind it to hit its blind spot. I'll draw it's attention toward me while you guys do your thing." Raven stated.
"Sounds like a brillant plan." Port nodded.
"Yeah. Just remember not to get squashed old man." Harold jabbed.
"Oh please I may be old but I still have tricks up my sleeves." Port stated back as the four of them readied themselves. The Predator gave a mighty roar and charged at them again.
"Alright go!" Raven ordered as three of them charged at it while Neo used her semblance to get behind the monster. Once she had done that she then jumped onto the monsters back as she tried to stab at it but her blade wasn't doing much to effect it. Seeing this to be ineffective she needed to try a different idea.
However she noticed something on the cane of her weapon was a small red button that wasn't their before. Seeing no other option she pressed the button and much to her surprise as a red gem glowed at the hilt and the blade retracted. She felt another button that felt like a trigger and almost immediately knew what had happened.
Her parasol was now infused with a red dust crystal and modified to have a gun function. She pressed the barrel to a crack in the Predator and fired into it. A small explosion was the result as the beast stumbled slightly from the impact.
Meanwhile Port and Harold were giving everything they have into attacking it's legs but like Raven predicted attacking it on the sides was their best bet to deal the most damage but even then it was still going to be a challenge to knock it down.
Port raised his and took a wide swipe at the grimm right leg while also trying to avoid getting crushed.
"Take this you foal monstrosity!" He shouted heartly as his axe aimed true attacking a weaker part of the leg. Harold followed suit by attacking the left leg with his hammer trying to do damage to it.
"Go down damn it!" Harold shouted swinging his axe as strong as he can but the monsters legs did not give way.
Raven used her agility to dodged the grimms bites while also taking swings at the grimms head just to keep it focused on her even if her blade bounced off its head. She then saw it rear it's head back almost as if planning on something.
Its jaw began to glow bright red which was a bad sign for Raven as she called out to the others.
"Everyone get back!" Raven called out but it was too late as the grimm opened it's mouth and blasted fireballs into the air which in turn they came falling down all around them.
Neo saw this and she completely froze just from the sheer sight of the fireballs. Next thing she knew was that her hands were shaking from fear of the fire as wrapped a hand around her neck where the scar was her breathing rapidly increased.
Raven and the others managed to dodge the fireballs but she noticed that Neo hasn't moved from atop the grimm.
"Neo! Move!" Raven shouted but the girl didn't respond which was very concerning.
"Damnit! Port, Harold keep it busy! I'm going for the kid!" Raven ordered.
Harold slammed the pole of the hammer in front of him as two handle bars came out from the sides then the front of the hammer opened up revealing two machine guns. Port simply flipped his axe toward the gun part of his weapon.
"We got you. Go!" Harold said pressing the triggers unleasing a barrage of dust bullets at the grimm as Port assisted him firing his gun as well as the grimm roared from the constant barrage.
Raven took the opportunity and leaped toward a pole to climb before jumping toward an opening of a second story building that was in ruins giving her time to adjust for what she had to do next.
The grimm blasted them with fireballs that just missed them going over their heads. Raven decided it was now or never using her aura to boost her jump she leaped into the air right where Neo was and she snatched her up from the grimm back. Raven held Neo close as they tumbled to the ground with Raven taking most of the abuse.
Once they landed she decided to check on her "Why didn't you move when I told..." Before she could finished she could feel her whole body shaking as she looked upon the fire that was before her.
Raven noticed this sudden action and seeing Neo was clutching her throat hiding the burn scars as she made a quicky deduction.
"Pyrophobia huh?" Raven asked as Neo closed her eyes shut tightly as that answered her questioned.
This posed a problem for her as it would take all four of them to take this thing down but if Neo was afraid of fire than she's not going to be able to perform as well. Plus theirs the fact her fer might attract more grimm to the area.
"She's in no condition to fight especially if her phobia is going to get in the way." Raven thought which gave her the only idea she can come up with.
"Port! Get over here!" Raven shouted. Port listened as Harold covered him as making sure he got over to where Raven was.
"Yes what is it?" He asked.
"Take Neo back to the camp. She can't fight in her current condition!" Raven stated which stunned the older man.
"Hm... I see. But what about you and Harold?" Port questioned with concern.
"We'll try and hold it off as best we can or at the least try and drive it away." Raven stated as she ran back out to rejoin with Harold. Port looked at the frightened Neo who was still shaking from fear.
"My apologies about this young lady but we'll be quicker if I carried you." Port said to her as he picked her up bridal style and began to run away from the fight.
Harold dodged the beast from trampling him as he rolled out of the way as Raven quickly joined him.
"Where's Port and the kid?" Harold asked.
"Neo's in no conditon to fight. Port's taking her back to the camp and hopefully he'll regroup with us. For now we'll just have to keep this thing busy." Raven said unsheathing her blade.
"Just like third year all over again huh." Harold said.
"You and I remember that very differently." Raven countered back as the monsterous grimm wasn't done with them just yet.

Meanwhile Glynda and the others had finished recovering her aura as they were waiting for Raven to return but they figured they might've ran into that Predator grimm that Glynda mentioned and it was making them worried especially Yang who was pacing around.
"Yang if you keep doing that your going to dig a trench at this point." Emerald said making the blonde brawler stop.
"I know but I just can't help worry about mom. I just..." Yang paused losing her words.
"Your mother is strong Yang. I'm certain she won't go down that easily. She's as stubborn as they come when it come down to it." Oobleck added.
"I'm kinda inclined to argee. Your mom can be kinda scary though too." Mercury added.
It didn't help to wash away Yangs worry but it did make her feel a little better. However Ruby noticed someone was coming their direction and immediately recognized who it was.
"Hey! It's Professor Port! Why is he carrying Neo?" Ruby replied getting everyone's attention.
Port reached them and caught his breath setting Neo down a moment to do so.
"Peter what is going? What happened to Raven and Harold?" Glynda questioned.
After catching his breath he began to speak finally "We've encountered the grimm and began to engage in it but during our battle it would seem Miss Neo's fear got the better of her I'm afraid." Port explained.
"Fear? What fear?" Yang asked but Emerald and Mercury already had a feeling of what it was.
"Pyrophobia. A fear of fire." Mercury stated as Neo nodded at this trying to calm herself.
"She wanted me to bring her here so that her fear wouldn't attract any more grimm. They are still out their fighting that monster." Port stated.
"Then they're going to need backup. We should go and help them." Ruby stated which surprised most of them.
"Ruby. Need I remind you that this isn't any ordinary grimm. It's far bigger than the Tyrex we fought so it won't be an easy one to simply defeat." Glynda replied.
"Well we can debate about this another time cause I'm going to help my mom. Even if she doesn't like it." Yang said stubbornly.
"Now let's not be rash about this. Taking on something of this size will no doubt-" Oobleck began but Glynda stopped him.
"That's enough Bartholomew. They are like their parents so when they have something in there heads then nothing is going to stop them." Glynda stated with a small smile on her face.
"Alright but we don't need everyone to go. Yang, Ruby you two are with me. Everyone else I want you all to stay behind." Glynda stated.
"Okay. Call us if you need any more backup." Emerald stated as the three of them headed out toward where Raven and Harold was and hopefully that they are still okay.

Raven and Harold weren't fairing very well agains the grimm as the huntress got smacked by the grimms tail sending her toward a brick wall smacking hard against it her aura flickering from the impact.
While they both have done some significant damage to the grimm as it's legs were now damaged from what they did but the grimm wasn't defeated just yet as it roared.
Harold was breathing rather hard as he used his hammer for leverage to keep himself up right.
"Damnit. Why won't it go down?" Harold breathed out. Raven picked herself up off the ground and picked up her sword taking a fighting stance. She was getting too tired from all the fighting and the more the fight was dragging on the more tired she was going to be.
"Got any more plans up your sleeves? Cause I think we're running out of options." Harold said.
"I'm thinking okay." Raven said but see knew she was running out of options of how to kill it but even worse her aura was starting to reach critical as she couldn't risk taking another blow from it. Though the grimm looked tuckered out from fighting its prey for so that it would be a good opportunity to strike at it but she didn't want to risk it.
"We can't let it recover cause if it does then it'll stomp us into the dirt like we're nothing. What should I do here?" Raven thought to herself trying to find a solution.
However the solution came in the form of a high caliber shot hitting the grimm directly in it's left eye as it roared in pain. Raven recognized the sound of the shot and it could only come from one person.
"Awe yeah!" Ruby shouted from above a building.
Next thing she noticed was large stones being thrown at the grimm as they slammed into the monsters skull knocking it back. Glynda's heels were heard right next to her as she walked right in front of her.
"Glynda? What are you-" Raven said but Glynda cutting you off.
"To quote someone 'Saving your feathered carcass'." Glynda stated. Raven only shook her head at this notion. Though the last thing that Raven expected was her own daughter jumping from a building directly onto the grimms neck and began punching at it.
"Stay! Away! From! My! Mom!" She shouted puncuating every word with a punch as the grimm tried to shake off it's prey.
Raven could only facepalm at this as Glynda chuckled "She is certainly your daughter Raven." Glynda says dryly.
"Yeah... I know." Raven said as the grimm finally managed to shake Yang off it's neck as she landed safely next to Glynda.
"Yang I thought we agreed you wouldn't do anything reckless." Glynda said.
Yang glances at the older woman and punches her fists together "Yeah you agreed to it doesn't mean I have to listen." Yang added with a smirk.
Glynda only shook her head and sigh "If we get out of this than we'll be lucky." Glynda replied back.
Now the grimm was angry that not only it had it's eye shot out but now it had been pelted by stones and attacked by a stupid girl. It roared in anger as it charged at them.
"Move!" Raven ordered as the four of them on the ground moved out of the way as Ruby looked on at the grimm as she brought out her scroll.
"Penny. Think you can find a weakness to this thing?" Ruby asked.
From in her scroll Penny began scanning the grimm for any signs of weakness that they could exploit on it.
"Unable to determine weakness." Penny stated.
"Huh? How come?" Ruby questioned.
"Grimm of rare varity. Not enough data to determine weakness." Penny answered.
Ruby only sulked but that was to be expected since it was rarely seen. She put two fingers to her earpiece as she spoke to Yang.
"Penny can't find a weakness in this thing. Any ideas?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah I'm not sure either. Got a plan sis?" Yang asked back.
Ruby analyzed the situation as she tried to come up with a plan.
"Okay big grimm that could take a big bite out of us. Strong legs, huge skull for bashing into things and...!" Suddenly a thought came into Ruby's head that she didn't think of before.
"Alright we'll just use all that against him." Ruby thought as she relayed her idea to Yang.
"Yang. I got something that might work against this thing." Ruby said.
"I'm all ears." Yang said back.
"Let's use it's size against it. Make it bash into something to slow it down then attack it's skull." Ruby said.
"You sure that's going to work? Sounds risky." Yang asked.
"That's the best I got right now. I'm coming down." Ruby said as she used her semblance to descend toward the group.
"Okay Ruby what's the plan?" Raven asked.
"That skull of it's looks pretty tough but if we can crack it just enough than we should be able to finish it off." Ruby stated.
"And just how are we going to do that? Make it angry?" Harold joked.
"That's the plan." Yang answered which Harold and Raven only blinked in response to that.
"Um... you know that was a joke right." Harold said.
"Oh I think they're serious." Raven added.
Harold only groaned at this "If we die I promise you I will come back as a ghost and haunt you for the remainder of your lives." Harold states plainly.
"No one is going to die." Glynda stated firmly.
"Aunty I want you on standby and wait till I give the signal." Ruby said before turning to Harold.
"Professor. You and Glynda hit it from afar but try and aim for its skull." Ruby ordered as the two of them nodded.
"Me and Yang will provide distraction." Ruby said.
"While also making it angry in the process." Yang replied almost excited about this.
"Alright let's get this done. Ready Harold?" Glynda stated as she used her semblance to float more large rocks from nearby as Harold switched his hammer to its turrent mode.
"Ready." He stated.
"GO!" Ruby ordered as the two young teens exploded forward as the grimm tried to swipe them with his tail. Yang used her weapons to jump upward away from the swipe while Ruby slid underneath it. As the monster whirled around Yang fired off a shot in the air hitting the grimms skull dead on while Ruby fired a round as well underneath it's jaw.
Yang managed to land right on top of the monsters skull and began punching away at it as her rounds exploded on contact.
"Take this and that!" Yang shouted with every punch. The beast finally got tired and threw Yang off his head as it was going to go for Yang but it felt a shot from its other side as Ruby was their firing upon it.
It opened its jaw and charged at Ruby trying to take a bite out of her but luckily her semblance gave her a chance to get out of the way which made the grimm run into a building losing its balance in the process.
"You okay Ruby?" Yang asked.
"Yeah but it's not done yet." Ruby said as the grimm was getting up and turned to face them.
Harold began to barrage the grimm with his weapon and Glynda continued throwing more pieces of debris with her semblance.
"Concentrate your fire!" Ruby ordered as they all unloaded their weapons onto the grimm as all the grimm couldn't hardly move. The grimm roared in pain as it's skull actually cracked.
"Aunt Raven go for it!" Ruby shouted as Raven sprinted into action.
Raven jumped at the grimm while it was still dazed as she drew her sword and with all her might stabbed at the where the crack formed. Then with one final shove the blade down to the hilt as the grimm roared one last time before falling down.
Raven removed her blade from the Predators skull as it began to dissolve into dust.
"Looks like... that takes care of it." Raven breathed but she groaned as she dropped to a knee her blade clattering to the ground.
"Mom!" Yang called out and ran over to her then crouching down to her.
Raven grunted in pain clutching her right side as Glynda joined Yang to check on her mother.
"Where does it hurt?" Glynda asked.
"Right side... I think... I've cracked a few ribs." Raven breathed.
"Correction." Penny stated from Ruby's scroll as she brought it out.
"Raven has sustained three cracked ribs on her right side and two brokens rib on the left. Recommend medical attention immediately." Penny stated urgently.
"Alright let's get her back to Peach. Yang take her weapon. Ruby, Harold provide cover incase more grimm come at us." Glynda ordered as she carefully lifted Raven to her feet and put Ravens arm behind her neck as the five of them began to make their way back to Peach.

After arriving back to Peach she immediately noticed Ravens condition and got to work on patching her wounds with Yang waiting patiently.
"You know this reminds me of the time of when I was hunting a rather nasty Taijutu. The grimm was a slippery devil but..." Port started only to recieve a glare from the blonde brawler.
"Professor no offense or anything but now is now the time for your grimm stories from your youth okay." Yang stated firmly.
Port only coughed knowing "Ah yes... well then... I guess I shall report our findings to the soldiers that are here so that they can deal with the rest of the grimm." Port stated.
"Allow me to join you then." Oobleck said joining Port as they both left as Harold stayed behind.
He gave a kind stare to Yang before he spoke toward her.
"Hey." He said getting her and Rubys attention.
"Your mother is a tough old bird okay. She's not going to let this stop her. Peach is checking her over so don't worry about it." Harold replied as they all waited.
After about ten minutes Peach came out with Raven slowly behind her.
"Well the good news is that her broken ribs didn't pierce the lung so that is the good news. But her aura will take time to build up again to further speed up the healing processes. So for now I suggest at least three to five days of recovery." Peach recommended.
"Was mom hurt that badly?" Yang asked.
Peach nodded "When I check out her aura I noticed that it was very low in the single digits. Her aura couldn't keep up with absorbing the hits she took." Peach added.
"Guess I'm going to be out for awhile huh." Raven said trying to laugh but it only caused her to wince from the pain.
"I think it's best that all of you return home so that Raven could get some rest." Peach suggested.
"We'll take things from here. Thank you all for your assistance in this endevor and now hopefully we can rebuild what was destroyed." Glynda replied.
Yang gave her mother back her sword as she used what was left to call upon a red portal to connect straight toward Tai. Yang helped her mother walk through the portal she made as Ruby and the others came right behind her while the professors stayed behind.
Back on the Patch Tai was currently fixing up a meal for everyone as Zwei was laying down on the couch. Though a red portal suddenly appeared as Zwei perked up before letting out a bark getting Tai's attention from the kitchen.
Tai came out from the kitchen after hearing Zwei bark "Something up boy?" He asked before noticing the portal in front of him knowing that his wife must've used her semblance. Then Yang came out with holding onto Raven which made him worry as he went to her side while everyone else came out from the portal.
"What happened?" Tai questioned concern in his voice.
"Two broken ribs and a few bruised ones too. Professer Peach said she needs at least three to five days to recover." Yang said.
"Geez what in the world did you get into a fight with?" He asked.
"A Predator I think Glynda called it." Ruby replied.
"I see. The same grimm that you fended off before." He stated.
"Hold on she fought that thing before." Emerald said rather surprised about it.
"Yeah though it was years ago." Tai said.
"But it was the same one I fought back then." Raven added tiredly.
Tai only sighed as he helped her to the couch and sitting her down. She winced clutching her ribs when she sat down.
"At least took care of that thing. The professors stayed behind to handle what remains of the grimm. Maybe the city will recover with time." Raven replied.
"More like a couple years give or take." Mercury added.
Tai chuckled at that but then remembered he also had something to show them.
"Well while you all were out I did a little digging into the names Ruby mentioned that attacked the academy and I found something that was a little strange especially with one of them." Tai mentioned bringing out his scroll.
"Really? What you find?" Ruby asked.
He pulled up an article that mentioned a woman that had died of a strange illness around fifty years ago.
"Okay what's so special about the article?" Mercury asked as even Neo looked at it in confusion.
"Look at the name and I think you'll understand." Tai said as they looked at the article and found the name as there eyes suddenly went wide as saucers.
"H-Hold on. You're kidding r-right!" Emerald stated.
"B-But how can that even be possible?" Yang asked completely confused as were the rest.
"Coco Adel! But if this article says that she died all those years ago... how is she even alive today!?" Mercury added quite stunned at this.
Tai and Raven only looked at each other and they both shared a similar idea as Raven nodded at this.
"I'll go check up on dinner." Tai said as he left the six of them in the living room while Zwei jumped on the bed at sat his head on Ravens leg.
"You all already know about Salem but you don't everything that she is capable of." She started before looking over to Yang and Ruby.
"I think you two need to know something also. Remember how I keep turning into a raven?" She questioned as the two nodded.
"Well it has to do with Ozpin." Raven added.
"Ozpin? Why is he connected to Salem?" Yang asked.
"Ozpin has been around much longer than many others can think. Have you heard the story of Man of Two Souls." Raven replied.
"Yeah I think Blake read something like that back at the academy." Ruby said.
"Then you might have an idea about Ozpin. This will be difficult to explain but it's how Ozpin explained it to me and the team back after we graduated the academy. Aside from my semblance Ozpin gave myself and Qrow the ability to turn into birds." Raven explained.
"Really? Not sure if that is possible or you're just pulling our leg." Mercury said crossing his arms in suspicion.
"Ruby, Yang you two witnessed it whenever I visited that other time before the tournament started." Raven mentioned as the two remembered that day when Raven visited them.
"Yeah... so that was Ozpins doing. Turning you into a bird... for what reason?" Ruby asked.
"Normally it was for me to find the maidens and keep them safe from Salems hands but I was also flying all over Remnant looking for Summer. But now with Ozpin dead his soul is more than likely looking for another host to reincarnate into. Honestly he can explain this far better than I can." Raven replied.
Tai stepped back into the room with a small grin on his face "Alright dinner is ready so how about we all eat. I'm pretty sure you all are hungry after doing all that work today." Tai said as they all headed into the kitchen with Raven coming from behind. Though now it did give them something to think about. With everything scrambling about in her head it made things rather confusing so there was only one option that needed to be done. Find Ozpins reincarnation and get some answers to this troubling puzzle.
