And we're back. Yeah, I took a break and now we're back. Thank you for being patient and please enjoy the chapter.
Earth
Raditz was lounging in a hammock in the Capsule Corp gardens. Bulma had left with Kami several days ago, and none of the Earth warriors had heard word from them since. He was getting really bored. There was only so much solo training he could do before he got antsy. It's why he always preferred having a training partner: he needed the extra person to bounce off of. He had contemplated finding Yamcha, but decided against it - that might count as 'rushing things'.
He heard a loud whooshing sound above him, opening one eye to see what it was. He immediately sat up straight, when he saw his brother land on the lawn. He looked around, before he saw Raditz and ran up to him.
"Kaka-," he stopped himself. "Goku, what are you doing here?" It felt strange to call him by that name, but if that was what he preferred, he'd honor it.
"Do you wanna go for a quick round? I wanna see how you can fight."
Raditz couldn't help but smile. Even after being raised on Earth, his brother was a Saiyan by blood. He jumped off of the hammock and landed with his feet apart. He crossed his arms. "If you think you can keep up with me."
Goku grinned and crouched into a fighting stance. "I won't let you down!"
Goku ran towards him, pulling his fist back to punch him. Right before he could make contact, Raditz flipped back onto his hands and kicked him in the chin. Goku jumped back to his feet, rocketing himself towards him. The two fighters clashed, their arms pushed against each other.
They exchanged blows, dodging each other's hits. Goku jumped up to kick him. Raditz ducked his head. He retaliated by uppercutting him in the jaw. Goku moved his head back just in time, and knocked him in the cheek with his elbow. He managed to get a few more blows in, before Raditz regained his bearings. Once he did, he jumped up, brought his hands together, and slammed them against him, sending him falling down. Not to be outdone, Goku stopped himself mid-freefall and flew back up towards him.
As the fight continued, Raditz couldn't help but be impressed by Goku's strength. He received none of the formal training that Saiyan warriors got on Planet Vegeta, but was still holding his own. Raditz considered himself a strong and able warrior, but his brother was proving to be a worthy opponent.
In the middle of their fight, Goku jumped far into the air. "Hey," he yelled. "Let's see if you can handle this!" He pulled his hands behind him, his wrists pressed together. "KAMEHAMEHA!" As he yelled, a bright blue ball of energy formed in his hands. Then, he threw his hands out, sending it careening down towards him.
Raditz's eyes widened for a moment, but then he smirked. "Let's have it, then," he yelled back. He pushed his hands out towards him, throwing a bright purple ball of energy back at him. When they collided, they were both extinguished.
Goku flew back down and punched him in the gut, knocking the breath out of him. He tried to get another blow in, but Raditz blocked it and headbutted him. And as he was disoriented, he grabbed his leg and threw him into a tree. The trunk shook and the birds scattered, as leaves fell to the ground from the force of it.
"Wow," Goku said, as he staggered back to his feet. He was grinning ear to ear. "You're really strong! I haven't had a fight like that in a while! How did you do that?!"
Raditz chuckled. "It's in our genes, my brother. We Saiyans live for battle, no matter the circumstances."
He looked amazed. "Really? Can you tell me more about them?"
Raditz was touched that he wanted to know more about their people. He leaned up against a wall, crossing his arms. "For as long as we've existed, Saiyans have strived to conquer any challenges we've faced - exactly as our Gods created us. We once lived as warring tribes, before a great drought brought us together. We discovered that while our strength individually may be great, our strength is even greater as a collective. Eventually, we were brought to another planet by a group of people called the Tuffles.
"However, they didn't treat us well - acting as if we were second-class citizens. But we prevailed against their tyranny and drove them out, creating the world in our own image. This is how Planet Vegeta began to take shape. The Tuffles attempted to strike back, but we prevailed once more, thanks to the full moon."
Goku tilted his head to one side. "What does the moon got to do with it?"
Raditz looked up at the sky. "A full moon is key to unlocking a Saiyan's potential. If you still had your tail, you might have learned that yourself. Anyways, we lived in prosperity for many years, until we faced one of our biggest challenges. Our leader, King Vegeta II, was overthrown by a tyrant called Frieza. He was once an ally, but stabbed us in the back to gain power for himself. Our proud race was nearly wiped out at his command. But with a lot of perseverance and fighting, we managed to overthrow him."
His eyes lit up. "Hey, I remember Frieza!"
He looked at him with a brow raised. "How?"
"He came to Earth a while back, and Piccolo and I fought him. He was really tough, too. Luckily, that guy from the future came in and stopped him."
Raditz just blinked at his brother. He was probably being silly - why else would he make up stories like that? "Anyways, that's the long-and-short of our people's history. Is there anything else you'd like to know?"
A serious look came onto Goku's face. He ran his fingers through his hair as his eyebrows furrowed. "Yeah. I just wanna know… if I was a Saiyan, why was I raised on Earth? Didn't anyone want me?"
His heart broke, hearing his words. "Of course. Our family wanted you so much."
"So, how did I end up on Earth?"
Raditz shook his head. "A story for another time." He was just learning about his heritage - he didn't need to know about their father's actions just yet. "Either way, Kak-," he stopped himself, again. "Either way, Goku, you're still my brother. I spent the past twenty years wondering what became of you, and now I know. And even though you're all grown up and don't need your older brother's guidance anymore, I still want to be a part of your life. So long as you want the same."
After a few seconds of silence, he grinned at him. "Okay!"
He blinked at him. He didn't think it'd be that easy. "R-really?"
Goku walked up to him and patted his shoulder. "Yeah, sure! I'm happy that I have more family now! Maybe you can meet my wife Chi-Chi and my son Gohan, sometime!"
To say Raditz felt moved was an understatement. He had been dreaming about this moment for much of his life, and now it had finally come true. Not only had he found his brother, but they could still be a family. "I would like that," he paused, before he smiled, "Goku."
"When this is all over, I'll take you to meet them. I know they'll love you!" He looked up at the sky, following the sun's movement. "Well, I should probably head back home. Can I come back and fight with you, again?"
"Of course you can."
"Awesome!" He called for Flying Nimbus and it flew down in front of him. He jumped on board. "Well, see ya soon, big bro!" He waved at him, as the cloud took off into the sky, leaving a stream behind it.
Raditz just watched, as he disappeared over the horizon. He smiled, as a feeling of peace came over him.
"Yoohoo, Raditz!" He glanced over his shoulder, seeing Bulma's mom peeking out the backdoor. "There's someone calling for you downstairs!"
"I'm on my way," he yelled back. He took one last look at the fading stream, before heading inside. It was probably Bulma calling from Namek, like she said she would. He couldn't wait to tell her the good news. His steps were light and peppy, as he made his way downstairs to the lab. The communicator was pulled up on the big computer against the wall. He jumped into the rolly chair, kicking it towards the monitor and hitting a button on the keyboard.
He crossed his arms in front of his chest, trying to play it cool. His eyes were closed, not even looking at the monitor. "I've got really good news - you're not gonna believe it."
"I bet mine's better."
As soon as he heard that voice, his eyes shot open and he looked at the screen. "Nappa?!"
Nappa laughed. "And here I thought you'd forget."
Somehow, Raditz's day had gotten even better. He turned to face the screen. "Oh man, am I glad to see you. But how are you-?"
"Talking to you? Vegeta and I were trying to figure out how to get back in touch with you guys on Earth. We managed to get an old Tuffle station up and running, again. It runs on its own network, which means it doesn't have anything that blocks us from Earth. I called Namek to tell Vegeta, and Bulma told me to call you."
"That's fantastic! Well, since you saw Bulma, I take it you know the good news?"
He breathed out. "Yeah. Figures that'd happen at the worst possible time. Vegeta's mother got pregnant right when the king took the throne. All these years later and I'm still surprised he didn't have a nervous breakdown."
"I damn near had one when Bulma told me! She let me take her to a defunct military base in her state!"
Nappa laughed and shook his head. "That girl is something else. Anyways, is that the good news you were talking about?"
"No. It's even crazier."
"Well, don't keep me in suspense - spit it out."
Raditz took a deep breath. He'd kept his brother a secret for so long - Bulma was the first person he actually told. But if he was going to be involved in this, it was better if word came from him. "I found my younger brother. He's been living on Earth this entire time."
Nappa's jaw dropped. "I had no idea Bardock had any other sons."
"That was the idea. Kakarot was his birth name, but he calls himself Goku. He has a whole life here - friends, family, even a wife and son. I thought he might not need me anymore, but he told me he still wants me to be his brother. If only all this bullshit with the androids wasn't happening.
"I see." He paused, as he thought. "He might be able to help us restore the alliance. One of the conditions is we have to prove the anti-Saiyan sentiment was exaggerated. Since your brother was raised on Earth, he can speak on its character better than anyone."
"That's right! I'm certain we could convince him to do so. And I've been living here for the past five months - I can speak on them, too."
"That's what Bulma said. Once she gets back to Earth, we can discuss the specifics. Anyways, it's good to see you again, Raditz. When you get back, you'll have to tell me what Earth is like."
Raditz smiled and nodded. "I will, my friend."
Then, out of nowhere, Raditz felt a huge jolt. His entire body froze on the spot and his eyes grew wide. He looked up into the distance. He was still a novice with sensing energies, but it felt like thousands of people had suddenly vanished.
"What's the matter?"
He put his hand on his forehead. "I-I don't know. I'm sorry, I have to go."
Without waiting for a reply, he stopped the call and shot up from his seat. Then, he ran out the door and flew into the sky.
