CHAPTER 109

A week later in Japan…

(CHRISTIAN)

I adjust the towel wrapped around my waist as I walk into the bedroom of the glorious suite we are occupying in Gideon's Japanese hotel and I pause as I see Ana staring out of the window. She is just gazing down at the city spreading out in front of her. Japan is as amazing as I anticipated, I have been here a few times on business but this is the first time I have been here as a tourist and I have loved every moment of it, but it is not a restful city so I will be glad to get to the Caribbean and kick back a bit, but before that I also have a surprise for Ana which she has no idea about and there will be another stop before we get to the Caribbean.

I look at her, "Are you disappointed that we didn't get to go to the Caribbean?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"No, not at all. I love it here, it's very busy – although Meg said it was. She said it wasn't a peaceful city but it has been an amazing experience, so thank you for bringing me here".

I inwardly smile, she wouldn't admit it if she was disappointed, but little does she know I have a massive surprise for her when we leave here. She shakes her head, "No not really. I think I've seen everything there is to see here and it has been wonderful".

"I think so, have we got everything?" she asks.

I hold out my hand to her, and she slips her hand into mine. She has no idea what I have planned, I am taking Ana to the Caribbean to meet up with Gideon and Eva but first I am stopping in Hawaii, to a small private island away from the main hub. I haven't told her any of this yet, partly because everything has happened so quickly but also because as I want to surprise her but this is my latest acquisition; I have bought this island for us for our own private use. I had got the idea from Gideon, when he told me he had bought a beach house on the Outer Banks for Eva to whisk her away to. We have our home in Aspen and also the apartment in New York but those places are open to our family and friends to use. I am hoping to keep this solely for just us. It had belonged to Malachy Jenrich another wealthy billionaire who I have had many business dealings with over the years and his official story had been that he had tired of it and wanted to sell, however I know the truth and know that he is selling out of financial need due to his circumstances changing for the worse recently. He had been kind to me when I first started to make a name for myself and helped me climb the ladder so when he heard that I was looking to buy a secluded island hideaway for Ana and I he had approached me and confiding the financial difficulties he was experiencing offered to sell me his island, after I had put the word out for somewhere to buy. I had agreed and the deal was quickly done, very quickly in fact far quicker than I had anticipated and I am looking forward to taking Ana there. It has all happened so quickly that I have not yet been there in person to see it yet but I have had a team there working tirelessly to get it ready for us and I've seen it a few times virtually via video link and it is an amazing place. I had previously been there, a number of years ago when I was younger and I was invited by Mal to join him there to network with other businessmen, but he has told me it looks far different now to how I remember it so I can't wait to go.

The ride to the airport is slow but we eventually get there and as we climb out of the car I am almost bursting with excitement.

"What's going on Christian?" Ana asks looking at me suspiciously, she has picked up on my mood and knows something is going on.

"Nothing" I say giving her my most innocent look and she grins at me.

"Oh come on, I'm not stupid - you're up to something Grey" she says poking her finger into my chest.

I laugh as I grab her and pulling her into my arms I pepper her with kisses. "Ok you've got me, we're not going home yet. I'm taking you to the Caribbean to the resort where Eva and Gideon got married" I say.

She rears back and stares at me in shock, "Really?" she asks and I nod.

"I knew that was where you really wanted to go, so I wanted to mess with you a bit… but did you really enjoy yourself here?" I ask.

Her gaze softens and she touches my chin, "I was with you so of course I enjoyed myself. It was an amazing city Christian and I loved it here".

I kiss her again and smile inwardly as we head towards the plane.

"You know, I did wonder why we were heading home today as our actual anniversary is tomorrow, I should've known you were planning something" she says.

I smile at her but don't say anything, I want to see her reaction when she realises we are on our own private island in Hawaii.

As we reach Hawaii and the plane starts to descend and Stephan sends an announcement through for us Ana looks up in surprise, "Why are we landing? Where are we?" she asks, looking out of the window nervously.

I reach for her hand to reassure her, "It's ok baby, we are in Hawaii. We need to refuel for the flight to the Caribbean" I say and she nods accepting that. It's not a total lie, as we will refuel before leaving Hawaii.

As we get off Ana stops dead and looks around, "Where the hell are we?" she asks as she takes in the primitive and very spartan runway and total lack of any amenities. I smile, as I look around. I was assured my plane would be able to land and take off from here as Mal had his own plane to fly to this island. In fact, I think he probably installed the very few facilities we have here.

"Home" I whisper and she spins around and stares at me.

"What have you done Christian?" she asks.

I don't answer her but just grasp her hand and lead her down the steps, and I see an Audi waiting for us. I smile as I see it as I had arranged for it to be shipped here.

Ana climbs into the car still asking questions which are all along the lines of 'where are we?' and 'what have you done?'

Taylor climbs into the driver's seat and drives us the relatively short distance to the house. I am looking around and my first impressions are excellent, it is well cared for and very beautiful.

When we arrive, I point at the stunning white villa and Ana's mouth drops open. She climbs out of the car without a word and just stares at it. "Seriously Christian, who does this place belong to?" she asks as she takes in her surroundings.

"You, baby" I whisper and she spins to face me once more.

"Me!" she squeaks.

I nod, "Yes baby, you. Happy anniversary!"

"Christian!" she exclaims and she just stares at me as if she is thinking I am crazy.

I wrap my arm around her, "I bought it for us, after Gideon told me about his beach house at the Outer Banks it made me realise, we have Aspen and New York but they are open for the family to use when they want to… so I started looking for somewhere I could take you to – just for us and then quite by chance a business associate of mine approached me saying he was selling and it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I want this to be ours, just ours. Our special place".

I look at her gauging her reaction, and while she is clearly shocked it all seems positive so far.

"So, you bought this house for us?" she asks gesturing towards the villa and I tip my head from side to side.

"Sort of" I say.

"What do you mean, sort of?" she asks in confusion.

"I bought the island, baby" I say.

"What?!" she exclaims again, "You are joking, please tell me you are joking?" she says.

I shake my head, grinning at her shocked expression, "Nope, everything around you belongs to us… well technically it belongs to you as I had it all put in your name".

Ana just stands gaping at me and I grasp her hand and lead her towards the villa. As we get closer I see a familiar face and I grin at her.

"Hi Gail, thanks for doing this" I say.

"No problem, I was not about to turn down a visit to Hawaii" she says with a smile.

"You knew about this?" Ana asks and Gail nods.

"I did, and Mr Grey asked me to fly in and make sure everything was ready for you both" she pauses and looks at me. "Everything was perfect Mr Grey I had very little to do other than stock up the pantry, and freezer".

"Is your cottage suitable?" I ask and Gail's smile gets wider.

"It's fabulous, I adore it and Jason loves it as well. I am secretly hoping you plan to relocate here permanently" she adds with a giggle.

"So, who lives here?" Ana asks.

"Full time, nobody. It's not like Aspen where I have Carmella living there. Mal – the guy who owned it before me had some people from one of the neighbouring islands who periodically came and kept things in order for him and kept up maintenance of the place. He assured me they were all trustworthy and efficient". I look at Gail questioningly and she nods.

"They are, they are all lovely and are happy that you decided to keep the arrangement as it is. They asked me to thank you for that".

"So, how will this work?" Ana asks.

"When we decide to come here, Gail and Taylor will accompany us and Gail will send word and the team here will get things ready for our arrival. But apart from that, we are totally alone baby. Gail and Taylor have their own cottage which is located near to the only access to the island by boat so Taylor can monitor if anyone attempts to land here. But there is more than adequate security, I believe Welch has been here and upgraded quite significantly, hasn't he?" I ask and Gail nods.

"Yes sir, he came with Jason and Barney and they have totally upgraded the existing security which was very good but they have made it better".

"So, what do you think? Do you like it baby?" I ask slightly nervously.

"I love it, but I am still in shock I think, I still can't get my head around the fact you bought an entire island!" she says.

I thank Gail and grasp Ana's hand, "Let's go inside and take a look around" I say.

"Haven't you been here?" Ana asks with a look of surprise and I shake my head.

"Not in person, I've done a few virtual walkthroughs via video link but this is the first time I've been here in person. So, this is a new first for us both".

"You are so over the top" Ana says as she leans towards me and kisses me gently on the lips.

We walk inside and Ana gasps and I have to say I am very impressed with what I am seeing. We walk through the perfectly furnished room into stunning kitchen with magnificent views of the beach, and the sea beyond. We leave the kitchen and move towards the master bedroom and as soon as Ana sees the beautiful room and the enormous four poster bed dominating the area she stops dead.

"Wow, I mean just wow" she gasps as she sees it, she turns towards me, "Christian this is… I have no idea what to say".

"Do you like it baby?" I ask.

She stares at me "Durr, seriously Christian, like is a vast understatement - I love it. It is amazing it is so beautiful and right now I'm with Gail and I want to relocate here, but god you really are so over the top" she says.

I laugh and pull her into my arms once more, I was reasonably confident she would like it although I was still slightly nervous about it considering just how big an acquisition this was.

"We will come here whenever you want to baby, we will shut ourselves away from the world, it will be just us" I say as I recall how Gideon had described his home on the outer banks.

"Is there any access to the outside world?" Ana asks looking around.

I nod, "Yes, there is state of the art communication with the neighbouring islands and beyond and we have access to the internet so we are not completely cut off" I say. I couldn't bring myself to not have any means of communication with the outside world, plus the upgrades to security rely on it.

"I think I need you to pinch me, I really am in shock. I honestly cannot believe you have actually bought an entire island" Ana says staring at me with a slightly dazed expression.

I laugh and pull her closer to me, "How about I do this instead?" I say as I lower her on to the bed.
