Just a quick heads up before this chapter begins, this story will end right after the Shibuya Incident arc occurs. After that, I'll be writing a part two to this story that will have Devil May Cry inspired elements in it and will cover where the Shibuya Incident arc ended and onward. Anyways, on with the chapter.
June, 2010
Japan, Tokyo (Aizawa Residence)
At nine in the morning on the twenty ninth of June, Denki Kaminari woke up, got up from his bed, and ran down the hallway to his house until he was in front of Shota's room. Once he opened the door and went inside, Denki went over to Shota's bed and began shaking his sleeping guardian.
"Shota, wake up! It's my birthday today!," Denki announced excitedly.
Shota grunted in response before turning to the wall.
"Come on, get up! I want to spend the whole day with you!," Denki told Shota as Denki grabbed him by the arm and tried to pull Shota out of bed.
Knowing that he wasn't going to get any more sleep, Shota conceited and sat up on his bed.
"Alright, I'm up," Shota grumbled in a tired voice before a small smile appeared on his face. "Happy birthday, problem child."
"Hey!," Denki pouted, not liking being called a problem child.
Ignoring the dirty look that Denki was giving him, Shota got up from his bed and walked towards his closet.
"I've got a gift for you," Shota revealed, causing Denki to get excited.
"A gift?! What is it?!," Denki asked, curious as to what kind of gift his father figure had gotten for him.
"Let me show you," Shota replied as he opened the door to his closet and pulled out something that was long, slender, and was inside of a slim black case.
When Shota opened up the black case, Denki looked inside and saw a katana with black wrappings wrapped around the hilt.
"You got me a sword?!," Denki exclaimed.
Shota nodded in confirmation, "This was the first sword I used when I started out as a Jujutsu sorcerer. My father had it forged for me and helped train me to use it, but I outgrew it, so it seemed logical that I give it to you so you can use it."
Denki was overjoyed that Shota would give him his old sword.
"Thank you, Sho," Denki told Shota as he smiled gratefully.
"You're welcome," Shota responded. "However, there are some conditions for using this sword that you have to abide by."
"Conditions?," Denki questioned.
"There are rules that come with using this sword," Shota clarified. "The first rule is that you cannot use it without my permission."
"Okay," Denki agreed.
"The second rule is that you cannot use it without someone watching over you."
"Okay," Denki repeated.
"The third rule is that you cannot treat it like a toy. This is not like your kendo sword, it is a dangerous weapon that could severely injure you, so you have to be extremely careful," Shota warned.
"Okay," Denki repeated in an uneasy tone.
"The final rule is that if you ever have to fight off a curse, you have to make sure that you never let go of your sword," Shota finished in a much more serious tone than before.
"Why?," Denki questioned, but in a more uneasy tone than before.
"Listen, kid," Shota started before crouching down to Denki's level. "Whether you become a Jujutsu sorcerer or not, I want for you to be safe. With how often I get called on missions, I'm not always going to be there to protect you, so when the day comes that I can't be there to save you, I want you to be able to save yourself. Understand, kid?"
This time instead of responding, Denki stayed quiet, overwhelmed by what Shota had told him. Noticing the change in Denki's demeanor, Shota mentally berated himself for the way he handled the situation.
'I can't believe I'm saying this, but Hizashi was right; I have no tact when it comes to children.'
Once he carefully thought out what he was going to say next, Shota held his fist out to Denki's chest, causing Denki to look up at Shota in confusion.
"Look, Denki, sometimes I can be a bit blunt with you because I'm not used to talking to and taking care of a kid," Shota explained before moving his fist away from Denki's chest. "However, that's not a good excuse and I need to work on the way I say things to you, so I apologize."
"It's okay, Sho," Denki assured his guardian, not wanting Shota to feel bad.
"No, it's not. It's illogical to scare an eight year old, no matter what my intentions are," Shota stated. "I was concerned because the older you get, the closer you are to enrolling into a public middle school where I won't be able to help you if things go wrong."
Denki was surprised to hear Shota express himself. For the three years that he has lived with Shota, the most he has ever seen Shota express himself was by smiling, so to hear him talk about being scared for Denki truly did shock him.
"However, you have a few years until you go to middle school," Shota continued. "So I think it would make more sense to talk about my concerns then, but with more tact."
"What's tact?," Denki questioned.
"It means being careful," Shota explained.
"Ohhh," Denki uttered.
"Putting all that aside, would you like to go out and buy breakfast?," Shota asked.
"Yeah!," Denki replied excitedly. "Oh, can we eat hamburgers?"
"Absolutely not. It's too early to have something like that," Shota reasoned, causing Denki to pout.
"Hmph. Okay, fine," Denki whined.
"We can have hamburgers for dinner," Shota offered, causing Denki's pout to transform into a smile. "So try to not eat anything too unhealthy today, alright?"
"Yay! You're the best, Sho!," Denki cheered before grabbing onto one of Shota's hands. "Come on, let's go!"
"Let me put the sword away first," Shota insisted. "In the meantime, you should get out of your pajamas and get dressed."
"Okay," Denki replied before leaving Shota's room and dashing towards his own room.
While Denki was getting ready, Shota closed the case that contained Denki's katana and opened up the closet door in order to put it away.
"Hopefully, you never have to use this, kid," Shota wished before putting the case in the closet and closing the door.
April, 2018
Japan, Tokyo (Tokyo Jujutsu High School)
After their battle with the Special Grade curse, Ryōshi, Izuku and Denki were warped to the office of Shoko Ieri by Satoru Gojo so that they could get healed of any injuries they might have gotten. As the two second year sorcerers were getting checked out, Satoru sat down on one of the chairs in the office and waited.
"One of your back bones is broken," Shoko revealed. "On top of that, your left arm and your right leg are broken."
Shoko used her reverse cursed technique to heal all of Izuku's injuries.
"Alright, your injuries should be all gone now," Shoko revealed.
"Thank you, Ms. Ieri," an unmasked Izuku replied before bowing to Shoko.
"I'm just doing my job," Shoko replied with a smile before turning her attention to Denki. "Alright, it's your turn now."
Denki politely waved her off, "Thanks, but I'm fine. I healed myself before I came here."
"You know how to use a reverse cursed technique?," Shoko asked in an impressed tone.
"Yup! Pretty cool, right?," Denki bragged.
"Very cool," Satoru answered as he approached Denki and Izuku. "That must have come in handy against that Special Grade curse, right?"
"You're right," Izuku admitted grimly. "Had it not been for Denki's reverse cursed technique, I don't know how long we would have lasted against it."
"Hey, no need to act so gloomy," Satoru pointed out with a smile. "You two were able to fight against a Special Grade curse and survive; not a lot of sorcerers can do that, so you two should be celebrating."
"He's right, Izuku," Denki agreed with a wide smile on his face. "We've gotten so much stronger since our first year that we were able to take on a Special Grade curse! If we keep this up, we'll be so cool that every Jujutsu sorcerer that we meet is gonna want our autographs!"
Satoru snorted in amusement at what Denki had told his green haired friend while Izuku had a deadpan smile.
'You haven't changed at all,' Izuku thought.
"Come on, you should be excited!," Denki complained. "You're the one who was scared that we wouldn't be good enough for Kyoto Jujutsu High, and on our first day we took on a Special Grade cursed spirit!"
Izuku had a thoughtful look on his face before smiling.
"You're right," Izuku admitted before getting more excited. "I can't believe we fought a Special Grade curse!"
"I know, right?!," Denki returned Izuku's excitement.
"Ah-hem," Shoko coughed, causing Izuku, Denki, and Satoru. "Since none of you need me to be healed, do you mind leaving? I have work that needs to be done and I would like to do it uninterrupted."
"S-sorry," Izuku apologized sheepishly.
"My bad," Denki responded apologetically.
"Sure," Satoru replied nonchalantly. "I wanted to take these two out to eat anyway."
"You are?!," the two young sorcerers asked simultaneously.
"Yup!," Satoru confirmed with a smile. "To celebrate your fight against that Special Grade curse, out of the kindness in my heart, I've decided to treat you two to whatever you want to eat."
Shoko couldn't help but run her eyes at Satoru saying that he was treating them out of the kindness of his heart.
"Awesome!," Denki exclaimed. "We should go to The Golden Grill! It's a killer hamburger place that I used to go to when I was kid; trust me, you'll love it!"
"I'll take your word for it," Satoru answered. "Alright, The Golden Grill it is then!"
"Thank you, Mr. Gojo," Izuku appreciated.
"No need to thank me," Satoru replied with a wave of his hand. "Also, call me Satoru or Gojo; calling me Mr. Gojo makes me sound like I'm old."
"O-oh. Okay, Gojo," Izuku replied sheepishly.
"Now, let's go try out those burgers," Satoru announced before opening the door and leaving.
"Alright!," Denki cheered as he and Izuku followed Satoru.
As Shoko got to work on some reports, a thought lingered in her head.
'They must be pretty strong for Satoru to be so interested in them.'
After eating burgers at The Golden Grill, Satoru warped Izuku and Denki to the front of Kyoto Jujutsu High.
"I will never get used to that," Denki shuddered, referring to the weird feeling he got when Satoru warped him.
"Eh, it's not so bad after a while," Satoru assured.
"Thanks again for taking us to eat," Izuku bowed in gratitude.
"Yeah! Thanks man!," Denki acknowledged before sighing in delight. "Those burgers were just as good as I remembered."
"It was no problem at all," Satoru waved off. "I have to admit, I'm not much of a burger man, but those were pretty good."
"I know, right?!," Denki agreed. "Next time I'm in Tokyo, I've got to make sure to go there again."
Before their conversation could continue, they were interrupted by the principal of Kyoto Jujutsu High.
"Ahh. There you two are!," Yoshinobu remarked as he approached Izuku and Denki. "I just received a call from Ieri that you two had fought off a Special Grade cursed spirit; quite an impressive feat you two."
"Actually, we were only able to injure it; Mr.-, I mean, Gojo was the one who actually defeated it," Izuku corrected.
"Oh, is that so?," Yoshinobu asked, trying to hide his distaste for Satoru.
"That's right," Satoru confirmed. "Aren't you going to praise me like you did these two? Then again, it's not like praise from you actually means anything."
It didn't take detecting their Ki for Izuku and Denki to notice the disdain that Satoru and Yoshinobu had for one another.
"Shouldn't you be leaving?," Yoshinobu questioned. "I'm sure that you have more important things to do than to stand around and talk to my students."
"I don't, actually," Satoru confessed.
"Well, I have some important business to tend to regarding Midoriya and Kaminari," Yoshinobu revealed. "So, you should really go back to Tokyo; besides, don't you have students of your own that need attending to."
Satoru stayed quiet for a few seconds while the tension between him and Yoshinobu still hadn't disappeared. Before Satoru could exchange any more words with the Kyoto school principal, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Taking his phone out of his pocket, Satoru read a message he had received before turning off his phone, putting it back in his pocket, and smiling tauntingly at Yoshinobu.
"You're in luck, old man. I just received an urgent mission, so it looks like I'll need to go," Satoru revealed before turning his attention to Izuku and Denki. "If you two ever get tired of the old man's attitude, let me know; I'll put in a good word for you two in Tokyo."
"That's enough!," Yoshinobu exclaimed, having had enough of Satoru's joking.
"Just think about it, okay?," Satoru offered Izuku and Denki, ignoring Yoshinobu entirely. "Anyways, I should get going. Later!"
Saying everything he needed to say, Satoru used his Infinity technique to teleport. Once Satoru had completely disappeared, Izuku cried out in distress.
"Oh, no!"
Denki turned to his friend in distress, "What's wrong?!"
"I forgot to ask for his autograph!," Izuku revealed in dismay.
Izuku's response caused Yoshinobu to look unimpressed with him while Denki looked at him with a deadpan expression and a smile on his face.
'You really don't change, do you?,' Denki questioned mentally.
"Now that there are no more interruptions, I would like for you two to follow me to my office," Yoshinobu instructed before walking towards the entrance of the school.
Izuku and Denki wordlessly complied with Yoshinobu's instructions and followed him.
"Where are we?," Denki asked as he and Izuku stood in a big room that only had a desk and chair that Yoshinobu sat at.
"This is my office," Yoshinobu revealed.
"But I thought that your office was that room with the couches and the coffee table," Denki pointed out.
"No, no, I was only using that room as a temporary office while I had some work done to this office," Yoshinobu revealed.
"Ohhh," Denki uttered.
"Now, onto the matter at hand," Yoshinobu began. "Izuku Midoriya and Denki Kaminari, you two not only passed your assessment test with flying colors, but you also were able to defend yourselves against a Special Grade cursed spirit; you two should be very proud of yourselves."
"Thank you, Principal Gakuganji," Izuku appreciated as he smiled brightly at the old man's compliment.
"We were pretty awesome out there, weren't we?," Denki boasted as he smiled with his eyes closed and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Yes, you two did very well," Yoshinobu acknowledged. "That is why it is with great pleasure that I officially promote you two to Grade 3 sorcerers; well done, children."
"Alright!," Denki cheered as he pumped his fist up.
"I can't wait to tell my mom and Mr. Yagi!," Izuku exclaimed.
The young sorcerers were both overjoyed by their new ranks and were determined to keep getting stronger together.
After their promotion to Grade 3, Izuku and Denki exchanged goodbyes and headed to their rooms, exhausted by the long day that they had gone through. On his way back to his room, Denki noticed Kasumi walking in front of him and called out to her.
"Hey, Miwa!," Denki greeted, gaining her attention before he approached her.
"Kaminari!," Kasumi exclaimed once the blonde haired teen walked up to her. "Are you and Midoriya okay?! Were you two injured?!"
"We're fine," Denki assured her. "Izuku got pretty beat up but he's fine now; Ms. Ieri healed him with her reverse cursed technique."
"What about you?," Kasumi questioned.
"I got pretty beat up too," Denki admitted sheepishly. "Don't worry though. I healed myself up with my own reverse cursed technique."
"That's good to hear," Kasumi sighed in relief. "I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you guys fight that curse."
Denki waved her off, "It's fine. Besides, if you didn't get help then me and Izuku would have been dead, so thanks Miwa."
Kasumi looked at Denki in surprise, taken aback by his gratitude. Her look of surprise was then replaced by a huge smile.
"I'm usually not all that helpful when it comes to curses higher than Grade 3; I'm actually pretty weak, so I'm glad I was able to help you guys in some way," Kasumi admitted.
Denki couldn't help but frown at his blue haired classmate's response; he could tell by reading her Ki that she felt self-conscious about herself, which bothered him. Denki smiled reassuringly at Kasumi as he tried to make her feel better.
"Don't be so hard on yourself, Miwa," Denki advised. "Your iaido skills are way better than mine, so if you train harder, you could definitely be stronger than me."
Kasumi couldn't help but blush at what her new classmate had told her; no one had ever really complimented her sword skills, especially someone as strong as Denki.
"E-eh?!," Kasumi stammered bashfully. "Y-you really think so?"
"Of course," Denki reassured. "It might take some time, but you'll get there. I used to be pretty weak compared to the rest of my class, but after Izuku and Shota helped me train and come up with new techniques for a few months, I got a whole lot stronger!"
Suddenly, a look of realization appeared on Denki's face before snapping his fingers, "I just came up with a brilliant idea!"
"What is it?," Kasumi asked, curious as to what idea her classmate came up with.
"We should start training together!," Denki stated.
"You want to train together?," Kasumi repeated.
"Yup!," Denki confirmed. "Since you and I both use swords, we might be able to help each other come up with some new techniques!"
"Are you sure?," Kasumi questioned in a concerned tone of voice. "I don't want to hold you back just so that you can help me."
"Sure, I'm sure," Denki reassured as he waved off her doubts. "Like I said, you're a lot better at iaido than I am, so you'd really be helping me out."
Kasumi felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude towards the grinning blonde, causing her to pull him into a hug, much to Denki's surprise.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!," Kasumi repeated. "I promise that I'll do my best to not let you down!"
"N-no problem," Denki stuttered, blushing due to the sudden contact, not knowing if he should return her hug or not.
Suddenly, Kasumi realized what she had done and pulled away from the hug she gave him, embarrassed by what she had done.
"Sorry about that, Kaminari," Kasumi apologized while looking down, hiding her embarrassed blush. "I got a little excited and didn't realize what I was doing."
"That's fine," Denki assured, having recovered from the girl's embrace. "So, do you want to start training tomorrow at six?"
"Huh?" Kasumi muttered, not having fully recovered from her embarrassment. "Oh, sure, tomorrow's fine."
"Great!," Denki cheered. "So, I'll see you tomorrow!"
"R-right!," Kasumi assured before waving goodbye. "See you then!"
As the two sorcerers headed off to their dorm rooms, Kasumi stopped and turned toward the retreating form of Denki Kaminari before smiling, turning back, and making her way to her room.
Our Jujutsu Omake
Returning to his room, Izuku was shocked to find Aoi Todo sitting on his bed, seemingly waiting for him.
"I was wondering when you were going to get here," Aoi admitted.
"T-Todo!," Izuku exclaimed, afraid that the burly sorcerer was going to pummel him. "W-what are you doing here?!"
"I heard from Miwa that you and my brother fought a Special Grade curse and managed to injure it," Aoi revealed. "I'll admit, I'm impressed."
"O-oh, really?," Izuku asked, not knowing where this was going.
"Yeah," Aoi confirmed. "You have pretty crappy taste in women, but I'll admit that you're a pretty strong sorcerer."
"Oh," Izuku replied, shocked that Aoi was acknowledging him. "Well, thank you Todo."
"It's fine," Aoi shrugged off. "I should have figured that since you're such close friends with my brother, you would be pretty strong, so I'm sorry for underestimating you. How about we let bygones be bygones and have a friendly sparring match?"
"Oh, sorry, Todo, but I'm actually pretty tired," Izuku apologized. "But if you want, we can spar together tomorrow."
"That's fine," Aoi agreed. "I wouldn't want to fight you unless you were at your strongest, anyway."
"Great," Izuku replied with a wide smile on his face. "I look forward to sparring with you."
The next day, Izuku would come to regret what he said when Aoi beat him into a crater.
