Chapter 8: Attack on USJ

Quirk: Bast – She can assume the abilities of any cat, from regular housecats and lions to hybrids such as ligers and tigons. Her quirk is named after Bast, the Egyptian goddess of cats.
Appearance: Though usually taking on appearances of the cats' abilities, her usual look has been compared as eerily similar to a character of the anime RWBY known as Blake, however she has a tail, and they are complete opposites in terms of personality and choice of dress. She's 14.

"What's that?" asked Kirishima.
"Villains. That's what that is, Kirishima-kun. This is an attack on USJ by villains." Hissed Luna, eyes thinning into slits as she took in the number of villains that exited the portal.
"Don't move!" commanded Aizawa, strapping on his goggles. "The trespassing the other day was the work of these scumbags after all, huh?"
The villains began to approach the students, with three remaining at the entrance to the portal. One appeared to be similar to the portal, leading Luna to believe that it was the one responsible for the portal. The second was a hulking figure, with its brain exposed. It was corded in thick muscle, with beady eyes, sharp teeth, and a bird's beak. The last figure was the most interesting; he had light blue hair, but his face and parts of his body were obscured by fake, grey hands. He was of average height and looked the least dangerous, but something told Luna that he was the most dangerous instead.
"Villains? There's no way they could get into a hero school!" cried out Kirishima.
"Sensei, what about the trespasser sensors?" asked Yaoyorozu.
"We have them, of course, but …" trailed off Thirteen.
"Did they only appear here or around the school? Either way, if the sensors are not responding, that means they have someone with a Quirk that can do that. An isolated area separated from the main campus during a time when a class is supposed to be here. They might be fools, but they're not dumb. This surprise attack was carefully planned with some sort of goal in mind." Mused Todoroki.
Luna, however, remained rooted in her thoughts, eyes flicking from one villain to another; How did they know the exact time an isolated class would be here, with only two pro heroes? The only way was if someone told them, or they had a rat in the school. Luna shook her head; now was not the time to think such thoughts.
"Thirteen, start the evacuation. Try calling the school. These villains even had something to counteract the sensors. It's possible that someone with radio-wave-type powers is interfering. Kaminari, you try contacting the school with your Quirk too." Aizawa said.
"Aizawa-sensei, what about you? Will you go fight them by yourself? With that many, even if you erase their Quirks … Sensei's fighting style is capturing after erasing the enemy's Quirk. A frontal battle is …" asked Midoriya, scandalized at the thought.
"You can't be a hero with just one trick. I'm leaving the evacuation to you, Thirteen." With that, Aizawa leaped down to confront the villains, his capture scarf unfurled and ready for action.
Aizawa quickly apprehended and incapacitated three of the forefront villains, looking like they were some sort of firing squad. However, Luna saw Aizawa's hair raise, meaning he disabled their Quirks. Despite being an amazing hero, Luna was still worried for the man. Powerful and talented he may be, but Luna didn't think he could take them all out. Aizawa began to lash out at the villains now surrounding him, dodging, and weaving while using some of the villains like living ammunition against their allies. It was mesmerizing, really, at how fluid and agile Aizawa was.
While the class fled, Luna and Midoriya stayed there, not wanting to leave their teacher, but also not wanting to become a hinderance. After a few more moments, they nodded to each other and followed their class, casting backward glances at the fight that was still going strong. Just as the main body of the class approached the door, however, another portal appeared, bring forth the purple-black portal villain. Midoriya ran forward while Luna paused.
If she was the villain, she would try to separate the students and send them away from the door. Luna decided that spreading out was the best option, but before she could warn the others, the villain chuckled.
"I won't let you. Nice to meet you. We are the League of Villains. It may be presumptuous of us, but we invited ourselves into the home of the heroes, U. A. High School, in order to have the symbol of peace, All Might, take his last breath."
Luna's breathing hitched when she realized that this was the same organization Ectoplasm spoke of in the teacher's lounge, the one that recruited The Phantom Cloak. This was bad.
"I believe All Might should have been here. Has there been some kind of change? Well, that is neither here nor there. This is the part I play today."
Luna blinked, and saw Bakugo and Kirishima rush the tall villain, with Bakugo setting of an explosion, obscuring the both of them and the villain.
"Did you consider that you'd get beaten by us before you did?"
The villain, however, seemed none the worse. "Oh dear, this is dangerous. That's right, even if you are students, you are excellent golden eggs."
"No, move out the way you two!" Thirteen cried.
"My job is to scatter you all and torture you to death!" With that, the villain encircled the class with dark tendrils, but Luna leaped backwards, seemingly forgotten. Luna began to think of what to do. She needed to somehow distract the villain, but coordination with her class seemed out of the question, as she could not even see them, and even with Luna's superior senses, Luna was having a tough time hearing what was going on through the haze. Suddenly, she saw Iida erupt out of the smoke with Sato and Uraraka.
"Everyone!" Iida cried, but the smoke, which turned into the shape of a dome, vanished, revealing the villain standing by himself, confronted only by Thirteen and a few other students, such as Ashido, Shoji, and Sero. Luna didn't know how they were still here, but they needed every advantage they could get.
"Shoji, is everyone here? Can you check?" asked Iida.
"Everyone's scattered, but they're all in the building." Shoji replied, turning his extra limbs into ears.
"Class rep?" spoke Thirteen.
"Yes?" Iida asked.
"I entrust this duty to you! Run to the school and tell them what is happening here. The alarms are not sounding, and our cellphones have no signal. The alarm system is based on infrared rays. Even though Eraser Head is erasing everyone's Quirks left and right, they are still not working, which means they have someone with an interference Quirk who hid right when they arrived. It would be faster for you to run than for us to find the person. "
"But it would be a disgrace as class rep to leave everyone behind –"
"Go, Emergency Exit. If you can go outside, there are alarms. That's why these guys are only doing this inside, right?" interrupted Sato. He was actually really perceptive. Luna really didn't peg him as the smart type, but hey, whatever.
"As long as you go outside, they won't follow you." Continued Sero "Blow this fog away with your legs!"
"Use your Quirk in order to save others." Commanded Thirteen.
"I can totally support you like in the cafeteria! I will! Please, class rep!" said Uraraka excitedly.
While Iida prepared to sprint, the rest of the remaining students, except for Luna, approached the foggy villain. Luna, however, kept glancing back at Aizawa's fight. Though Aizawa seemed to be handling himself well, the girl thought he seemed slightly slower than before, with the windows of opportunity for Aizawa's dodges becoming smaller and smaller.
"Even if you have no other choice, are there really idiots who talk about their plans right in front of the enemy?!" the villain exclaimed, seemingly enraged. He attacked once more, sending dark tendrils at the people in front of him.
"We did it because it doesn't matter if we're found out! Black Hole!" Thirteen called out, activating her Quirk, and sucking up the dark purple tendrils into her finger.
"Black Hole, which sucks up everything and turns it into dust. I see. That is an outstanding Quirk. However, Thirteen, you are a hero that works to rescue people from disasters. As expected, your battle experience s less than half of that of a normal hero." With that declaration, the villain caused a portal to appear behind Thirteen, which then began to suck Thirteen in. Luna's eyes widened when she realized the villain was using Thirteen's Quirk against herself. Her hero suit began to crumble, before exposing the dark interior. Thirteen shut off her Quirk, but quickly collapsed afterward. It was clear she sustained massive damage.
"Iida-kun, run! Hurry!" yelled Sato. Iida looked like he wanted to retort, but instead shot off toward the exit.
"Damn it!" the boy shouted as he ran.
"One of the children who was not scattered … We are only waiting for All Might. If the other teachers are called here, it will be hard for us." mused the villain before turning his way and appearing before Iida. Iida skid into the purple fog, but Shoji saved him by tackling the purple and black villain. Iida began to sprint even faster.
"Everyone, wait for me!" Iida declared.
"You impertinent –" The villain once again raced to catch up to Iida "I will not allow you to go outside! You're impudent, four-eyes. Be gone!" Part of the villain tried to envelop Iida again, but this time, Uraraka interfered, grabbing the villain's neck brace, and making him float. This had the desired effect of causing him to retract.
"I don't know the theory behind it, but if he's wearin' something like this, then it must mean he has a physical body. Go, Iida!"
"My body! Oh, no!" Iida reached the door and slowly pried it open. The villain tried to reach Iida, but this time, Sero hit the metal brace with tape and Sato pulled on it, forcing the villain back again, before sending him flying. Iida finally made his way out the door.
Luna risked another glance at Aizawa. He managed to incapacitate a large fraction of the villains, and she saw the blue-haired villain rush Aizawa. Aizawa tried to apprehend Blue-Hair with his capture scarf, but Blue-Hair merely used the scarf to pull himself closer. He swung his hands at Aizawa, but the latter merely ducked and delivered a devastating jab to Blue-Hair's stomach. However, Blue-Hair caught it, and Luna's eyes widened in horror as she noticed first her Sensei's costume, then fragments of skin begin to fall off like shards of porcelain. Aizawa quickly punched him away before even more villains rushed him.
Even with Aizawa's right arm out of commission, he was still able to fight back, delivering wicked kicks and punches from his left arm, as well as using his capture scarf. However, she saw the man pause, taking gulping breaths while being surrounded by even more villains. In a blur of motion, Aizawa took care of the villains surrounding him before facing Bue-Hair once again. However, Luna gasped when she saw the muscled figure punch Aizawa, knocking him over and sending his goggles flying while delivering a cruel blow to his head.
"NO!" Luna screamed, and suddenly she knew what she was to do. A villain with a wolf's head cocked back his fist, and Luna suddenly felt something deep within her shift. She grasped it and transformed her legs to that of a black cat, but before she knew who they belonged to, Luna leaped. Her legs transformed back to normal as her boot collided with the wolf's jaw. An audible crack was heard as the villain was flung away from Aizawa, howling in pain. Luna transformed into the black cat from the sludge incident in an effort to buy time, but this time, her appearance was different; gold jewelry decorated the massive cat.
In each ear, a couple gold earrings were to be seen. Each leg had two gold bracelets on them, and the case was the same for her tail. Her chest, however, now held a golden necklace, inlaid with rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. Luna let out a loud roar, causing the villains surrounding her to back a few paces away. Blue-Hair scratched his neck in irritation. Aizawa lay face down, unresponsive.
"Any of you morons get within a fucking foot of us and I'll shred you!" the cat hissed, and the villains shuddered at the killer aura the cat exuded.
"How bothersome. I wasn't aware of such a Quirk." Blue-Hair sounded annoyed "Nomu, take care of her." The villain, who was now known as a Nomu, rushed Luna at an impossible speed, but still, she was faster. She leaped over the Nomu, landing on its back, and raking her claws deep withing the villain, causing it to screech with pain, before sending it flying away from Aizawa. Luna's only purpose was to keep her teacher safe and buying time for Iida to return with help.
"My, my. This cat certainly has claws. Unfortunately for you, or maybe not, Nomu has impressive regenerative properties. He's like a giant, indestructible scratch toy now that I think about it." Blue-Hair said, and indeed, the Nomu's back was already fully healed. It whirled around to face her again, but Blue-Hair raised his hand, causing it to pause. "Alright, let's have a little fun, shall we? Let's see how good you are against regular villains. I want to talk to the famous Eraser Head."
Luna transformed back to her normal human form, not wanting to kill them. Debilitate them? Sure. Cause them immense pain? Absolutely. However, death was something Luna wanted to avoid. A horde of villains rushed Luna and the fallen Aizawa, while Luna prepared her usual combo of cheetah legs and tigress paws. Like Aizawa, Luna's key to success was her agility, and she used it to her advantage.
Luna dodged and weaved, sending out swipes that bowled over the villains while lashing out with her feet as well. Though they didn't hurt too much, it was the rapid strikes that made them hurt. Despite Luna's best efforts, however, she was slowly forced away from Aizawa. Every time she tried to get back to him, more villains got in the way, Luna grit her teeth and continued her defense. No matter how many she sent flying, even more seemed to replace them.
They're like damn weeds! Thought Luna as she backhanded a really skinny villain, sending him flying with a shriek.
Luna heard a crunch and a yell from her teacher, which caused Luna to shriek when she realized his right arm was now at an odd angle, held in the Nomu's massive hand. She was actually hit hard, which sent her flying. To recover, Luna had to make a hasty roll, before continuing the fight once again. Beyond the din of battle, Luna heard Blue-Hair's monologue.
"You can erase Quirks. That's wonderful, but nothing impressive. In the face of overwhelming power, you might as well be Quirkless." Luna ducked as several blades went whistling over her head. Luna growled and quickly jabbed the man into submission before once again fighting the many imps. She heard another shout from Aizawa, and she risked a glance. His left arm was now as broken as his right, except there wasn't a trail of blood from the wound. Nomu began to pound Aizawa's head into the ground again and again before a ferocious wail caused it to pause. It looked up only to see imminent death in Luna's eyes. She didn't care; this thing deserved death. She gathered all of her strength into her right paw before slamming the Nomu, sending it flying with its neck at a terrible angle. She heard the body drop as she desperately tore her costume, trying to bandage Aizawa's many wounds.
"It's okay, Sensei! I'm here! Hold on!" tears were streaming down her face as she tried to ease the man's pain.
"You … you shouldn't … be here." Aizawa muttered.
"Sensei, please! Shut up! You need your strength!"
"Look out!" a familiar voice rang out before Luna looked up in shock. The Nomu was still alive, its neck in normal position, and its vicious right hook sent Luna tumbling away from Aizawa. Her ears were ringing, and her vision danced with black spots from the blow as the Nomu picked Luna up by the hair and dragged her over to Blue-Hair.
"Well, damn. I think that blow would have killed even a lesser Nomu." He mused.
Suddenly, she saw the portal villain appear.
"Tomura Shigaraki." Ah. That's what his name is.
"Kurogiri. Did you manage to kill Thirteen?" Well then, Luna might as well have said her name at this point, if everyone was just going to say each other's name.
"I put Thirteen out of action, but there were students I was unable to disperse, and one of them was able to run away."
"Huh?" Shigaraki began to scratch at his neck with both hands, and he looked so funny Luna may have laughed had her head not been in so much pain. "Kurogiri, you … If you weren't a warp gate, I would have crushed you to pieces. We can't win against dozens of pros. It's game over. Man, it's game over this time. Let's go home. Oh, yeah. Before we leave, let's smash some of his pride with Eraser Head and the girl." Shigaraki turned to Luna, but she had recuperated enough to escape the Nomu's grasp.
With a yell, Luna reached for the arm of the Nomu and twisted violently, breaking the arm, and causing it to let go with a screech. Luna backpedaled, grabbing her teacher, and carefully but quickly trying to run away.
"Hey hey, where do you think you're going? You take one more step, and I'll kill this girl." Luna glanced at him, who now held Tsu in his grasp "Actually, I lied." Shigaraki grasped her fully, but nothing happened. She heard a familiar crackle of hair and saw Aizawa activated his Quirk.
"Let go of her! Smash!" Deku cried, trying to hit Shigaraki. Luna absently noticed that his hand wasn't broken, but then paused when she realized the Nomu somehow got in the way of the attack. Shigaraki dropped Tsu, who quickly frog hopped away.
"You move well. Your 'Smash' … Are you a follower of All Might's? Oh well." The Nomu went to grab and crush Midoriya, and Luna's heart stopped beating. That wasn't figurative either. Her heart literally stopped a beat, and the Nomu suddenly was stopped by a very feminine, clawed hand. Holding it was a tall, foreign looking woman, who had cat ears and a tail the color of sand but had brilliant blue eyes that twinkled with mischief. She wore foreign clothing and had skin color much darker than the average Japanese citizen. She widened her eyes.
"I'm … I'm free. I'm finally free. FINALLY! A DESCENDANT POWERFUL ENOUGH FOR ME TO CONTROL!" the woman crowed victoriously, before realizing she was holding a straining Nomu. "Oops, sorry kitten. I got carried away." With an almighty screech, she sent the Nomu flying, tumbling away. She looked at Midoriya.
"You okay, kitten? Did that ugly brute heart you?" she cooed, and Midoriya turned beet red, spluttering.
"Who the hell are you?" asked an annoyed Shigaraki. The woman turned her gaze to him, her face wrinkled in disgust.
"Oh my, did my bloodline fall far. I doubt you even heard of me. I'm Bast." There was an audible silence as Shigaraki soaked in the information.
"Bloodline … What?"
"Oh, do I have to spell it out to you, kitten? I'm your great … what is that; times 25? 30? Anyways, I'm your oldest ancestor. Same with the girl, actually."
This time, Midoriya interrupted "Bast? Like, the great heroine Bast? The legendary hero who was able to provide peace and prosperity in the days of chaos?"
Bast sighed "Don't remind me; I give my most worthy descendant powers, and she suddenly decides she's a goddess. Hello? That's me? How much of an ego do you need to compare yourself to me?"
"G-Goddess?"
"Oh. I forget we're not in Egypt anymore. Yes. The great goddess Bast? Goddess of cats?" at Midoriya's blank look, Bast just sighed "Never mind."
Shigaraki scratched his neck "So, you're a hero?"
"Well, not exactly, but the term is close enough."
"That means you're with them."
"Again, not exactly, but close."
"Tch. Nomu. Kill her."
The Nomu suddenly came back, and Bast literally folded backwards in half to avoid his punch.
"Time for you to go, Midoriya-meow!" With that, she threw him towards Tsu, who caught the boy and leaped over to the barely conscious form of her teacher. The Nomu began swinging at Bast, who began to dodge and weave. Despite her insane reflexes, the punches were coming too close for her liking "Ah, man. Even though the girl is finally able to host me, I'm not at full capacity. That's all right. She can be trained. And why do I have to be the one in combat? Sekhmet was the goddess of war, not me! Oh, whatever. I haven't had hand-to-hand combat in so long." Bast mused, before engaging the Nomu.
Bast and the Nomu began a deadly dance. Every time the Nomu threw a punch, Bast's small hand was able to stop it. To the average person, it would look like their hands were a blur, and would be impossible to track. In between blows, Bast lashed out at major arteries and veins of the creature, hoping the thing would bleed out, but before much blood could escape the thing, the wound would almost heal instantly. The battle became one of attrition, with neither combatant seemingly slowing down.
Midoriya's eyes widened at the struggle before him. He didn't think it was possible for someone besides All Might or some sort of speed hero to move so fast, but the two clearly proved him wrong. He thought to what Bast said.
She's a goddess? But … how? Bast specified that she wasn't here, not really. She said that Luna was a host for her. And she made it sound like an incredible achievement. She also said that she was not at full capacity either. I'd hate to see her go all out.
The next movement, however, broke Midoriya out of his musings. The Nomu threw another punch, and, instead of it being blocked like the others, this punch slammed into Bast, sending her sprawling. She got up in a heartbeat, but the look on her face was incredulous.
"Already? But … that wasn't even five minutes! Fine then, guess I have to end the fun." Shigaraki's eyes narrowed.
Bast leaped up at the Nomu, snarling. The Nomu attempted to smack her away like a fly, but Bast rolled underneath it and came face-to-face with the creature. Midoriya gasped when he saw her teeth grow to be about a foot long each before she sank them into the Nomu's neck. The thing began to roar in pain, and attempted a crushing bear-hug, but Bast's own arms held off the blue, muscled arms of the Nomu. It began to buck and writhe, attempting to dislodge Bast, but was unsuccessful. Midoriya heard a gross, tearing sound emanate from the Nomu's neck before realizing that it was its neck. Slowly but surely, the Nomu's head and neck were separated from its body, and with a last growl and tug, Bast tore the Nomu's head clean off. She kicked the now headless body away before spitting the head away. She gagged.
"Ugh, what the Duat? Why does it have to taste so foul?" Shigaraki's eyes bulged in his sockets.
"Kurogiri … it will heal, right?"
"I … I do not know. Its healing factor is great, but … I'm not sure it can just regrow a whole head."
Meanwhile, Bast was pawing at her mouth, spitting and trying to get rid of the foul taste of the Nomu out of her mouth. Bast felt her connection begin to weaken with her host, meaning that she ran out of time. It was all right, though. She saved a close friend of her host, and she saw some action.
"Bast! Behind you!" shrieked Midoriya, and Bast whipped around to see the Nomu, good as new, swinging at her once again. Her eyes widened and tried to stop the Nomu's punch with her own, but before her hand even reached it, she disappeared with a flash, and in Bast's place stood Luna.
Her fist collided with the Nomu's, and for a second, everything was still. Until Luna felt her arm erupt in pain, hearing her entire right arm shattering with the blow. With a cry, Luna leaped backwards away from the Nomu, trying to buy some breathing room, but the Nomu did not oblige. It began to hound her every movement, trying to finish her off. Luna began to lead it away from her friends and teacher in hopes of buying some time, but Luna was tired. Dead tired. Her eyes drooped, her legs shook, and her mind was washed with wave after wave of pain from her broken arm. The blow she took earlier from the Nomu certainly didn't help. All she wanted to do was drop like a stone and sleep, but she knew if she did, she would die.
Luna tried to keep away from the creature with every fiber of her being, but eventually, she slipped. She landed awkwardly and backpedaled, but the Nomu grabbed her by the leg and swung her like a club, smashing her into the ground left and right before finally tossing her to the stairs leading to the entrance of USJ. She landed with a crack, and her vison blurred with tears of pain and guilt. Her father was right, after all. She was weak. His laughter rang in her head, taunting and mocking her. Luna saw the Nomu approach her and closed her eyes. She heard the Nomu wind back a punch and braced for impact. However, it stopped. Luna opened one eye to see the most beautiful thing she had ever seen in her life.
All Might stopped the Nomu's fist with his own.
"It's fine now! I am here!" Luna sobbed in relief, realizing that she was a second away from death. "I had a bad feeling, so I was on my way here when I passed Young Iida. He told me the situation before dashing off to find others." Luna noticed he wasn't smiling, but instead grimacing. She blearily waved a goodbye to Shigaraki, barely conscious at the point.
"I've been waiting, hero. You trash of society." Shigaraki taunted. All Might didn't respond; he heaved and sent the Nomu skidding back with a mighty kick, away from Luna. Luna heard the villains begin to whisper nervously.
"That's All Might? It's my first time seeing him in person!"
"He looks so intimidating …"
Finally, one braver, or more idiotic, than the rest, decided to rally them "Idiots, don't hesitate! If we kill him AGH!" the end of his sentence was met by a blur of motion, which Luna realized was All Might. He quickly took care of the grunts, turning to face Shigaraki, Kurogiri, and the Nomu.
"Luna, Aizawa-kun, I'm sorry." All Might said quietly before picking up everyone in a flash and depositing them away from the remaining villains. "Everyone, go to the entrance! I'm leaving Aizawa-kun and Luna to you! Hurry!" Before Luna was taken farther back, she grabbed All Might's sleeve. He turned to her.
"Be … be careful, All Might-sama." Luna breathed "He regenerates the damage he takes." Luna paused as she spit out blood and began to wheeze "He even got his head ripped off, but he regrew it." He nodded, turning to face the villains once more as Shigaraki began to mutter. Normally, Luna would have heard everything he said, but her ears were ringing, and she hurt all over. Quite frankly, Luna didn't care.
All Might engaged the enemy as Midoriya picked up Aizawa and Luna was picked up by Tsu and Mineta. Thankfully, the grape wasn't trying anything funny, understanding now was not the time.
"Carolina SMASH!" All Might performed a sort of cross chop, but the Nomu took it like a champ, merely skidding away from All Might.
The Nomu tried to grab All-Might in a bear hug, but All Might limbo'd right under his grasp. He smashed a fist right into the stomach of the Nomu, but it didn't even flinch. All Might began to rain blows on the head of the Nomu, but again, it looked none the worse from the punches. All Might continued to land punch after punch on the Nomu, while simultaneously dodging its attacks.
Suddenly, he switched tactics, and RKO'd the Nomu, causing a crater to form from the impact.
"Get them! Aim for the balls!" screamed Mineta, causing Luna to chuckle, but also to wince at the pain.
"Were we overthinking it?" mused Tsu. "He's amazing!"
As Luna listened to her two saviors, she glanced absently at Midoriya, who looked worried. As much as Luna appreciated the faith shown by her friends, she too could not help but worry. Though her memories from her transformation were patchy at best, she clearly remembered having the Nomu's head ripped off clean. However, he managed to regrow it without any trouble; she wondered how much of a beating the monstrosity could take before it went down.
Luna's thoughts were shattered when she realized that a portal underneath All Might appeared, with half of the Nomu's body through it with its talons digging deep into her teacher. Even from so far away, she small a few dots of color appear. They slowly began to sink into Kurogiri's portal. Suddenly, Midoriya basically dropped Aizawa as he rushed back to help All Might. Suddenly, Todoroki, Bakugo, and Kirishima also appeared. Luna's vision began to fade in and out as the students who helped Thirteen rushed over to support Aizawa and Luna.
Luna saw that Todoroki froze half of Nomu, allowing All Might to escape, while Bakugo and Kirishima attacked Kurogiri, restraining him. She saw the Nomu remove itself from the portal, with its right arm and leg snapping and falling off. It tried to get up only for it to fall to what remained of its right leg. Suddenly, the ice erupted, and the Nomu regrew its lost leg and arm. Luna hissed.
I warned All Might, but it seems like he was not able to warn the others. Damn.
The Nomu rushed Bakugo, and whatever it connected with, the resulting wind pressure sent everyone near it flying. The dust cleared, and Luna saw All Might, still braced for impact, while the Nomu had Kurogiri in its grasp. Then, Shigaraki rushed the students while All Might and the Nomu ran at each other.
The two titans clashed, with intense winds forcing everyone else to stop fighting and focus on rooting themselves. Even Luna and the rest of the students near the entrance felt the winds from the collision. A few like Shigaraki were blown away entirely. Then, the real battle began.
All Might and Nomu began exchanging blows at a rapid pace, so fast that their hands were vague blurs. Each punch was cancelled out by the other, with neither of them willing to give ground. Soon, everyone was blown back, with them covering their faces with their hands, on their knees. The ground beneath the two titans began to break and fragment, so powerful were their blows.
Eventually, they both grabbed the other's hands, and All Might began to push, shoving the muscular villain back. The force was so great that the trees that came in contact with the Nomu were sent flying. They then went to punching the snot out of each other, their arms moving even faster, if that was even possible. All Might finally landed a devastating hit, sending the Nomu flying through the forest area of USJ. Trees groaned and crashed as the Nomu was flung past them.
They then both leaped at each other and collided mid-air, with All Might blocking a punch with his forearms, then slamming the Nomu into the ground with both of his legs, using the monster much like a surfboard. He then grabbed the Nomu's arm and jumped high into the air, before hurling the Nomu and turning him into a meteor, causing a crater in the surface of USJ.
While the Nomu was still rebounding, All Might crashed down onto the ground. He cocked back his right arm, and an energy gathered around it. Waiting for a second, All Might let the punch fly. The force of the punch was apocalyptic in power, sending the Nomu flying through the dome. A twinkle shone in the distance.
"We're blasting off again!" cheered Uraraka, and Luna smiled at the reference. The entire dome shook as explosions rippled across the top. The ground shattered, and All Might promptly sank a foot or two into the ground. The students began to celebrate, cheering and hugging each other except for Shoji and Tsu, who each held Aizawa and Luna respectively. After that, Luna allowed herself to pass into the sweet, sweet darkness.
"Hey, Luna-chan!" croaked Tsu, but Luna turned off like a light, greatly tired and in pain from all that occurred there.
Luna came to laying on something warm, with the sun beating down on her. It wasn't too hot, but it was warm enough to where it was pleasant. Luna stretched, enjoying the sun on her. Then, she felt a little tap on her nose. Luna ignored it. Then it came again. And again. And again.
Luna opened her eyes, annoyed at whoever was waking her up, but then realized that it was Princess. Her cat that died 5 years ago. Luna simultaneously realized that she was nowhere she recognized, but in a desert of all places. Not too far away was a building; she realized that it was some sort of temple. Upon seeing Luna wake up, Princess turned and padded away. Luna scrambled to follow.
When she arrived at the gates, the guards let her in wordlessly. Their skin was much darker than she was used to, dressed in foreign clothing. She continued to follow Princess into the heart of the temple, until she entered a room with a familiar woman sitting, drinking a white liquid, which Luna realized was milk. When she saw Luna, she gestured to an empty seat, which Luna took.
"Well, color me impressed, kitten. You're the first in four generations to be a suitable host for me." Bast said.
Luna quirked an eyebrow "So, you're actually a deity?"
"And your ancestor."
"Where … where am I?"
"Where do you think you are, kitten?" Luna paused and took in all she had seen so far. Desert, temple, foreign guards, Bast.
"We're in EGYPT?"
"Well, not exactly. More like a memory of what it once was. This was my favorite temple the mortals built for me, you know."
"So, you're a deity."
"Mhm." Bast took another sip of milk.
"And that means there are other Egyptian deities currently running around the planet?"
"Well, not all of them. Most faded, as they were forgotten. I was one of the few who created a bloodline. Thoth did as well, but he's been dormant for a while. I believe his last descendant capable of hosting him was Albert Einstein. Osiris did too, but you know. That's his whole schtick. He never likes to take a host, so all he has is a bloodline now. Uh, who else?" Bast paused, but then darkened "Set did too. Thankfully I haven't seen hide nor hair of that bastard. I thought I saw him recently, but it must have been my imagination. Other than that, everyone's gone."
"Well, since you're real, does that mean others are too?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, are there any Greek or Mayan or Slavic or Norse gods running around?"
Bast made to answer, but paused "Well, not sure about most of them. I met a few other figures, but they weren't deities, ya know? I met the old hag from Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga. That was an interesting conversation. She's currently somewhere in Siberia. I think I met Kukulkan once, but that was WAY back, like 1500 years ago I think, so it has been a while. Even now, I'm not sure if it was some other trickster deity or what. But to answer your question, yes, other pantheons run around as well."
"What about the God. Like, the one from Christianity and Islam and stuff?"
"Not sure. If he does exist, he never gave me a clue. However, I didn't bring you to talk about other gods. I came here to talk about our connection."
"Okay."
"I need you to get stronger."
"That's it?"
"No need to get snarky, kitten. What I mean is that you need to strengthen your Quirk so I can get out more."
"And what do I get in return?"
"You won't go insane when I take your so called 'Quirk'."
Luna paused "What? You can do that?"
"Yep!"
"And you never took it in the 3000 plus years of existence?"
"Oh, I did. It's just that the descendants of those people were never able to host me again, nor get the Quirk you have right now. Usually, those descendants turn out to be villains, insane, have some sort of mental defect, or all three!"
"You sound awfully cheery."
"Well, you don't want me to be like your distant cousin Tomura, do you?"
"He's … he's my cousin?"
"Something like your 5 times removed cousin? I don't know, these things are complicated."
Suddenly, the world shook.
"What was that?"
"You're waking up. Oh, and brace yourself."
"For what?"
"The guilt."
Luna awoke to pain. Pain, and a faint beeping of a machine. Luna groaned, and tried to prop herself up, but then yelped when she realized that she tried to sit up with her shattered hand. She tried again with her good hand and took in her room. It was empty, but it's not like Luna expected anyone to be here. And then the migraine started. Gods, Luna was tired of migraines, but they could not seem to get enough of her.
The beeping on the monitor began to increase in frequency, and a nurse with red hair walked in to check on her.
"Oh, you're awake. How are you feeling?"
"Migraine. Ugh. Bad." Was all Luna could say, her head splitting into pieces. The nurse nodded and left before quickly returning with anti-migraine medication. "If you're feeling up to it, you have a visitor." Luna nodded, clutching her forehead.
In walked in none other than All Might, though in his normal form. His chest was wrapped in bandages, and he looked dead on his feet. Thankfully, the anti-migraine medication acted fast, so Luna was able to speak.
"We really must stop meeting like this, Toshinori-sama." Luna joked, but he merely turned his gaze away from her.
"I'm sorry." Was all that he said.
"For what?"
"I wasn't able to protect you or Eraser Head. You were hurt."
And then the floodgates were opened as Luna remembered her teacher, on the floor with both arms broken. She remembered his head being smashed into the ground again and again, and Luna merely shut her eyes.
"No." Luna said.
"No?" Now Toshinori was confused.
"No. It's my fault. I wasn't strong enough to protect him. He could've gotten away with only his right arm broken, but because of my weakness, he was injured further."
"Luna. I barely beat the Nomu. In what world were you supposed to beat him?"
"In this one. I should've taken him and stalled, but I wasn't strong enough. She told me so."
"She?"
"Bast."
"Ah." They paused, sitting in silence.
"How it Aizawa-sensei, Toshinori-sama?"
"He's stable, but he's currently unconscious."
"And what day is it?"
"Saturday."
One day. Luna was out for one day. She should've been thankful that was the extent of it, but Luna still felt guilty. She should be the one completely wrapped in bandages, not Aizawa. Their positions should have been switched, but instead, Aizawa was the one that was unconscious while Luna sat here, conversing with All Might.
"I need to see him." She said suddenly, and Toshinori blanched.
"Luna, that's not a good idea. You were thrown around like a ragdoll. Your right arm is completely shattered. Your left leg is basically crushed. Your entire body is bruised. It's a miracle you're coherent right now."
"I need to see him. I'll do it with or without your help."
Toshinori sighed, but he pulled up a wheelchair for the girl. He helped her into it and pulled her IV and nutrient rack with her. It was slow going, but eventually, they made it to Aizawa. He was wrapped in bandages, and Luna tightened her left hand to the point where it hurt.
"How did …" Luna's words were caught in her throat. Oh god, Ichika. "How did Ichika take it?" Luna asked, her voice cracked and wavering.
"She took it ok. She was understandably upset, but … she took it reasonably well. She was also worried about you."
"Me?"
"Mhm."
Luna didn't know what to say. She merely sat in her wheelchair, watching her teacher's chest rise and fall. Rise and fall.
"What are you doing here?!" shrieked a familiar voice, and Luna turned her head to see Ichika in a bright pink dress. "You shood be in bed! Not here! Toshinori! I expected better of you!" All Might flinched at the tone of Ichika, but Luna intervened.
"Ichika, it's okay. I basically forced him to help me here. I needed to see … I needed to see him." Ichika sighed, but her gaze softened.
"Alright, well, that's enough. You should go back. You need rest too, Toshinori." He nodded and waved a goodbye as he slowly left. Ichika helped Luna back to her room, and fussed over her like a mother hen, making sure she was comfortable.
"I brought lunch. Do you want to eat?" Luna's stomach rumbled an answer, and Ichika laughed. She carefully unpacked it onto a tray. "So, want to tell me what's between you and the most powerful students in your class?"
Luna choked on her rice that she just began to eat "What do you mean?"
"Don't 'What do you mean?' me young lady. Midoriya, Todoroki, and even Bakugo visited you several times, you know."
"They did?"
"Yep." Ichika popped the p "Come on, spill. You aren't eating until you do." Ichika snatched the rice from Luna, and she groaned. This was going to be a long day.
Hello everyone! Happy 2022! Some quick announcements! First, All Might is in the same hospital as Luna and Aizawa, which is not how it was portrayed in the anime, but eh. Whatever. Second, school is starting literally tomorrow, so uploads will shift to once every two or three days. Not sure why it starts on a Tuesday, but oh well. If anyone is here from The Tale of Qin, that will be once a week. Third, there are now gods running around! That will take an interesting turn, so watch for that. Anyways, hope you enjoyed the chapter! Stay safe out there! – Bananaman out!
