Headmaster Ozpin sighed as he heard the elevator ping and saw Glynda Goodwitch enter his office. Not that he wasn't glad to see his loyal Deputy Headmistress – far from it – but during this particular time, when the next generation of prospective Huntsmen and Huntresses prepared to enter Beacon Academy, there was only one thing that Glynda's unplanned arrival could signify.
"I believe the next thing you're going to say is 'We have a problem, Oz'", Ozpin observed, looking up from his paperwork.
"We have a problem, Oz-" Glynda started, then stopped. "What?"
"Pay it no mind," the Headmaster said, and sighed again. "So, what happens to be the matter?"
"It's Ruby Rose."
"Ah," Ozpin leaned back in his chair. "I assure you, Glynda, I fully understand your reservations regarding miss Rose's age. Still, I have faith in her potential and-"
"It's not about that, Oz," Glynda cut him off, somewhat uncharacteristically for her. Perhaps the stress was getting to her too.
"Oh? And what is it about, then?"
"It's about her… unique… choice of weaponry."
At that, Ozpin merely glanced at Deputy Headmistress's own weapon (which, of course, happened to be a riding crop of all things). Glynda noticed the direction of his gaze.
"I mean… I know that we allow Huntresses to choose any weapon they can create and effectively wield – and I do not doubt that miss Rose is very proficient with hers – but there are certain… practical concerns."
"I see…" Ozpin blinked. "The standard lockers would be somewhat insufficient in this case, I suppose."
"And the launching pads."
"Oh, you don't have to worry about that, Glynda," the Headmaster smiled. "Young miss Rose has already told me the particulars of her landing strategy."
"And those are-?"
Weiss Schnee slowly released a breath.
'Remember your training, Weiss,' the heiress thought to herself, even as a pack of Beowolves surrounded her. 'Head up, shoulders back, right foot forward – not that forward – wait for the right time to strike. Overcome your fear. Fear is the-'
BOOM!
Something big slammed into the ground before Weiss, making her flinch – and immediately raise her hand to shield her eyes from the dust. When she could see clearly again, the Beowolf in front of her was nowhere to be seen. Instead, a large, mechanical figure slowly rose to its feet.
At first, it reminded Weiss of the Arma Gigas that she defeated back in Atlas. Both were large, made fully of metal, and would probably still be intimidating even if they didn't move at all. Still, there were some differences. The new figure was smaller (but still towering over Weiss) and bulkier. It was painted red, with two green, eye-like visors, and oversized pauldrons with a white rose symbol painted on the left one. It bore no sword, unlike Arma Gigas, but as it noticed the Beowolves surrounding Weiss – the creatures themselves looked as if they were frozen, not making any move to attack either Weiss or the new arrival – three long blades appeared from each of its hand, as if they were claws. The figure took a fighting stance, and then…
Weiss didn't even have to kill a single one. Truth be told, she didn't even have the time to do so – she could only watch as the massive figure moved with incredible speed and grace, tearing the Grimm apart with almost contemptuous ease. A strike of her claw-blades beheaded one, a swipe gutted the other – the machine (if it was one) almost seemed to dance among the creatures, its every move ending in another kill. Just a few short moments later, there were none left at the clearing, and it was just Weiss and the mysterious figure.
For a second there was silence, as the two stared at one another. Then the figure raised its arms (with the claws disappearing back inside) and slowly removed its helmet.
"Y-you?!" Weiss half screamed, half shrieked.
"Hi, Weiss." Ruby Rose smiled, looking down at the bewildered heiress. "Do you want to be my friend?"
And as Weiss Schnee looked into the girl's silver eyes, currently sparkling with mischief, she suddenly realized one thing.
'Brothers protect… she is going to be my partner for the next four years!'
A/N: Thank you for reading!
A shorter one this time. The prompt was Ruby using a mecha suit as her weapon instead of Crescent Rose.
