Luna met Aizawa heading out of the booth with Present Mic. When they saw her, Present Mic ran up to her, grabbing her hand and repeatedly shaking it up and down with a surprising amount of strength.
"Congratulations, Luna! You performed really well!" Present Mic then smirked coyly "I would also like to congratulate you on your significant other."
"Shoto's not my significant other. That was just …" Luna trailed off, extracting her now sore arm from Present Mic.
"Just what?" Aizawa asked, and Luna gulped slightly at his tone.
"It's not like what you're thinking, I swear. I mean, I may like him a little bit that way, but Bast overexaggerated it!"
"Sure." Was all that Aizawa said, his voice clearly showing his disbelief.
"Anyways, I gotta dash, Mummy Man! See you two later!" Present Mic dashed off, his hairdo slightly bobbing as he jogged away. Luna's eyes were drawn to it, and a primal want to bat at his hair with her paws filled Luna. Aizawa merely rolled his eyes.
"You coming?" he asked, and, without waiting for a reply, left to the parking lot. Luna hurried after him, not wanting to be left behind.
"Um, Aizawa-sensei?" Luna asked hesitantly. He grunted, prompting Luna to continue "May I ask … Why was I announced under your family name?"
Aizawa stopped, waiting for Ichika to arrive "You didn't like it?" He sounded a bit downcast, and Luna blanched, realizing she probably offended him.
"Oh, no! It was great! It's just … I got caught off guard by it is all."
"So, do you want to keep it?"
"I …" Luna paused, debating on how to answer. A part of her was ecstatic at the thought of being connected to Aizawa and Ichika like that. However, the other part of her was deathly afraid of the consequences. Eventually, she would have to leave Aizawa and Ichika to go back living with her father. And she could only imagine the rage it would send him into. The two sides battled it out inside of her, with neither gaining any ground. Luna hesitated, not knowing what to say.
Before Luna could answer, she heard a familiar male voice call out to her.
"Luna." Luna turned and saw Todoroki jogging up to her.
"Shoto! Um, hello." Luna awkwardly replied, feeling the intense gaze of Aizawa on her back.
"Look, um, I know that we have the next two days off, and I was wondering if-"
"No dates." Interrupted Aizawa, and the two students spluttered.
"No, nothing like that, Aizawa-sensei. I just wanted to give Luna my number so that we can talk is all." Todoroki explained, uncomfortable with the gaze that was now directed at him by his homeroom teacher.
"Oh. Never mind then." Aizawa said, turning to face the road.
As if Luna couldn't be more embarrassed, Ichika pulled up to the curb.
"Luna darling, you did fantastic! No need to worry about the fact that you didn't beat your friend." Ichika said, winking at her. Luna groaned, covering her face with her hands, and wrapping her tail around her waist. "Oh, Todoroki-kun! I didn't see you there! How are you?"
"Oh, um, fine. Thank you for asking, Aizawa-sama." Todoroki awkwardly replied, rubbing his neck slightly.
"Are we actually going to get home, or do you three want to talk the rest of the day?" Aizawa asked, getting into the front seat beside his wife.
"No, Azi, we're leaving. Say, Todoroki-kun, do you want to come with us? Your home is relatively close to ours." Ichika offered. Todoroki looked at Luna for help, who just shrugged.
"If it's no bother …"
"Of course not! Hop on in!"
With the press of a button, the left door to the Sienna slid open, and Luna and Todoroki entered. The two exchanged numbers, and Ichika cranked up the radio, talking with her husband.
"So, Luna." Todoroki began, and she looked at him.
"Yes, Shoto?"
"Um, I wanted to ask earlier, but since we have two days off, could we … you know. Plan our talk?"
"Of course we can. As long as it's not late tomorrow. I'm to visit Yaomomo's house. Sorry."
"No, it's fine. I'll be busy tomorrow anyways. How about after-tomorrow?"
"Yes, we can do that. Do you have a specific time in mind, or …?"
"I was thinking of planning on that day instead of now. After all, anything could happen."
"Okay then. After-tomorrow it is."
The two sat in content silence, though Todoroki noticed Luna go a little green as the car ride went on.
"Are you, uh, okay?" Todoroki asked hesitantly, and Luna shook her head.
"Cars make me nauseous." Luna replied shortly, her tail once again wrapped around her stomach in displeasure.
"Does anything help?"
"Music, but I don't want to just ignore you."
Todoroki felt his heart beat slightly faster, happy that Luna was considering his feelings, but he shook his head.
"Go ahead. I don't want to have you throw up all over me."
"You sure?"
"Positive."
Luna nodded, relieved, and quickly fished out a pair of earbuds and her phone. Todoroki saw her pull up some English music band, and she sighed, looking out the window. Todoroki did the same, observing the neighborhood as they drove by. Finally, Ichika dropped off Todoroki at his home, and the three drove off to the Aizawa house.
When they got there, Ichika seemed strangely giddy, and Luna looked at her suspiciously.
"Are you okay Ichika?" Luna asked.
"Okay? Am I okay? I'm fantastic! I just met your boyfriend, after all!"
"He's not my boyfriend!"
"Then why'd you confess?"
"I didn't confess! That was Bast!"
"Uh-huh, sure. I totally believe you~" Ichika teased, but thankfully Aizawa saved her.
"Could you two stop bickering? It's giving me a headache." The man said, grumbling.
Ichika laughed, and the two began to follow before Ichika paused and turned to Luna.
"Luna dear? Could you wait out here for a second?"
"Um, okay?" Luna said hesitantly. The two quickly entered the house and closed the door behind them, not allowing Luna to see or hear what was going on. She heard the two speaking, but Luna only heard fragments, most words too muffled to hear. Luna stood by the door, uncertain of what was to come.
Luna shuffled her foot, glancing about the house. She wasn't sure what to expect, standing outside. For a second, a thought of them not letting her in made the girl panic before taking a deep breath. They were better than that. Aizawa and Ichika were better than them.
Suddenly, Ichika flung open the door "Sorry about that. Come on in!"
Luna entered, putting on her slippers and going to her room. Luna changed into her casual clothing and washed her hands before going downstairs. Since she missed lunch, she was famished, and made her way to the kitchen. However, just as she was about to arrive at the entrance, a familiar scent hit her nose. A familiar scent she hadn't smelled in more than four years. When Luna entered the kitchen, her eyes widened at the food that sat there, ready to be placed on the kitchen table.
There, sitting on the granite countertops, were several bowls of piping hot poutine, as well as a plate of bannock. Poutine and bannock are traditional Canadian dishes, world famous for their delicious flavors. Poutine was a meal composed of French fries, cheese curds, and gravy. There were a variety of toppings one could add, but the most popular ones were bacon, lobster, and mushrooms. The ones that currently sat on the countertops had some sort of smoked meat with bacon on them. Bannock is a special type of baked wheat bread, slightly circular in shape; the food was adopted by the settlers from the natives when they first arrived, and now is extremely popular throughout Canada, and to a lesser extent in the world, though not as much as poutine is.
Luna stared uncomprehendingly at the food that now tantalized her, memories of her childhood flooding her. Her mother used to make the best poutine ever, and it was something that Luna used to adore. Luna ran her fingers through her hair, trying to rein in her wild mind. Ichika walked in a few seconds after Luna did and smiled widely at the girl.
"Well, do you want to eat or not? I made this just for you, you know."
"Y-You made this for me?"
"Well, I'm pretty sure I'm not Canadian, and unless Azi's hiding something from me, he's not either. So, that leaves just you, no?"
"I don't know what to say … Thank you. So much."
"Not a problem, dearie! I hope I did the plates justice. Help me set everything up, will you?"
Luna nodded and grabbed the bowls of food, taking them into the dining room where Aizawa was already sitting. Because of the constant healing sessions with Recovery Girl, Aizawa was able to take off some of the bandages that wrapped around him, including the ones near his mouth, which the man was ever thankful for. Though he appreciated Luna's help with eating, it embarrassed the man, having to rely on someone else for something so simple.
Once everything was set up and everyone sat down, the married couple waited for Luna to take a bite. She grabbed a fork and carefully took a bite. The explosion of flavors that assaulted Luna's tongue made her recoil in surprise. The gravy intermingling with the bacon and smoked meat (Luna realized was beef) was heavenly. The cheese curds and French fries also connected beautifully, and the gravy certainly didn't hurt at all. Luna thought it was the best poutine she ever ate, maybe even more so than her mother's. Though, it was possible that Luna was slightly biased, with it being the first poutine she ate since she was ten. Ichika saw Luna lean back from the meal and sighed slightly.
"It's that bad, huh? Oh well I -" Ichika paused as she noticed the bowl licked clean, sparkling as if there was never any poutine there. Luna looked at up at Ichika with such hunger that Ichika laughed.
"It's delicious!" Luna exclaimed, eyes sparkling "Can I have more?"
Ichika handed Luna her second bowl, which she now ate with some bannock, and Luna's head began to fog up in pleasure. The soft bread was used to mop up any trace of gravy that remained in the bowl, and Ichika and Aizawa copied her, noticing what she was doing. The three individuals tore through the meal and sighed contentedly when everything was eaten.
"That was … wow. I didn't think it was that good." said Ichika dreamily.
"That wasn't bad, that's for sure." Aizawa agreed, nodding his head. Even he seemed more chipper and brighter than usual.
"I … I can't begin to thank you for that, Ichika. It was so good … I hadn't had it in so long, and I almost forgot how delicious poutine was. And the bannock … I just … can't even describe it." Luna finally said, looking at Ichika with a big 'thank you' written in her shining eyes.
"You're welcome, my dear. I must say, your people really know how to make delicious food! I should probably make some more, considering that was the fastest I saw Azi eat in a while." Ichika smiled.
"That's not true. I like your food just as much as this." Aizawa refuted, though Ichika shook her head.
"No need to fib, dearest. I can tell. Besides, I'm not mad. I still made it, didn't I?"
As the couple spoke, Luna felt the day's events catch up to her, and if she didn't move soon, she very likely would fall asleep in the chair, and Luna saw the same was true for her two guardians. Luna grabbed the dirty cutlery and deposited it all in the dishwasher, turning it on for about two hours.
Luna yawned greatly as she entered the living room, where Aizawa and Ichika were currently curled up together. Luna smiled at the two, happy that Aizawa was so happy. The man usually looked so empty and tired all the time, but it was like a switch flicked on when he was around his wife.
Opposites really do attract, huh?
That they do, kitten.
Luna quietly left the room, not wanting to disturb the two, who were practically asleep in each other's arms. When Luna arrived at her room, she frowned slightly. Though she really wanted to sleep, she was barely awake enough that she wouldn't for a bit, so Luna grabbed her laptop and decided to work on the mountain, the project she started thanks to Midoriya and Tokoyami. Though the outside was mostly done, there were still a few things she wanted to fix and add. While she worked, she decided to ask Bast a few questions, letting her arms go on autopilot.
Bast?
Yes, kitten?
Were you married, back in Egypt?
I was, kitten. His name was Ptah, a creator deity.
Luna heard the goddess sigh sadly.
Did you love him? Were you happy?
Oh, incredibly happy, kitten. We loved each other dearly. He was always so calm, collected, mature. He was the practical opposite to me, you know. While I fought Apophis at night, protecting my father Ra, he sat at home, calmly creating urns and sarcophagi. He was the rock to my foundation, the thing that kept me sane.
Did you have any kids?
We had a boy. His name was Maahes, though he took after me more than Ptah. He became a god of war, taking inspiration from his aunt Sekhmet. Can't say I blame him; it's like the two were joined at the hip, so similar were they.
Luna waited for Bast to continue, but she didn't for a bit.
I missed them terribly when our reign was over. The first couple hundred years were ever so lonely. I felt so lost, so … alone. I wandered aimlessly for a long time, searching for purpose.
Why didn't they make bloodlines, like you and Thoth did?
You have to understand, back then, mating with a human was considered taboo. It was heavily frowned upon, especially for the females. Thoth and Osiris had no problem with it; Thoth was smart enough to look past the disgust of his peers, and Osiris loved all people, regardless of whether or not they were good. Set, of course, being the jackal he was, saw no problem with it, though, for some reason, bad luck seemed to hound his descendants. From what I can figure, most branches died out, and the few that remain are so sparse and isolated that I never even hear of them.
Luna hummed, adding some shadows to the undersides of some rocks and ledges.
Did you ever find it?
Find what?
Your purpose?
I did; it was the connections I shared with my descendants, especially those who could house me like you. Of course, it's terribly depressing when they die, and I have to remain silent for a couple generations, waiting, but it's usually worth it.
Luna began to close her eyes, her arms drooping before shaking herself and laying her laptop aside, saving her work. Luna closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep, smiling all the while.
Meanwhile …
Nadeau sat, frowning heavily as he leaned back in his chair. He didn't know that the girl could house a deity. He thought she would be like her mother; strong, sure, but limited in the fact that they had no access to their distant ancestor. Obviously, he was wrong. She needed to be taken care of. ACTUALLY taken care of, not like that bumbling fool that he sent two weeks ago.
His phone buzzed, and he answered.
"What do you want?" Nadeau asked.
"Boss, we found him. What do you want us to do with him?"
He smirked "Finally. Don't do anything too bad. I'm coming."
"Yess, boss."
Nadeau ended the call, standing up and making his way downstairs. He nodded to Kurogiri but frowned when he realized that his "boss" was sitting there as well, some sort of handheld gaming device in his hands. Shigaraki looked up, pressing a button, and the audio coming from it stopped.
"Where are you going?" Nadeau heavily despised the fact that he had to answer to the runt, but his business partner assured him that it was only temporary.
"Out. My guys finally captured someone I was looking for. Be back soon."
With that, he left, walking to a nearby factory. It was all but deserted, the owner not doing anything with the place, and, with a bit of money, managed to use the place discreetly. He made his way up the metal staircase, with it groaning slightly under his weight, but it held.
Nadeau walked into his office, where a man was tied up in a chair, sporting several dark purple bruises, and several wounds. Two guards stood near the door, while a third was idly tapping his finger. He looked normal enough, with black hair, fair skin, and bright, blue eyes. The only thing different about him was that he had little spouts instead of fingertips. When the man saw his boss, he stood up respectfully.
"So, where'd you find him, Scald?"
The man, Scald, answered "He was hiding in some motel when a few of my guys found him."
Nadeau crouched down, staring the tied up and terrified individual in the face.
"Jonny, Jonny, where were you? I just wanted to talk!" Nadeau said, his voice deceivingly friendly.
"Boss, I-" The man was struck, sending the man and his chair to the floor. Jonny now lay sideways, glancing up with wide eyes.
"You ain't got the right to speak, fool!" Scald hissed.
Nadeau raised his hand, stopping his second-in-command. "You failed, Jonny-boy. I gave you one simple task, and you failed. All you had to do was turn the girl into a pincushion, and you were done! How hard can it be?"
This time, he motioned for Jonny to speak "I-I don't know, boss! Honest! When I threw, it was like she knew, and I couldn't stick around! People began to walk the streets!"
"And you didn't have any chances of catching her once she left?"
"She shot out of the front door like a motorcycle, boss! I wasn't able to keep track of her! She was gone in the blink of an eye! But I won't disappoint you again, boss! I promise!"
Nadeau sighed, clearly disappointed "You're right. You won't." The man summoned an intricate war scepter out of thin air. It was a beautiful work of art, and likely would have mesmerized many a person had it been brandished under normal circumstances. However, these were not normal circumstances. Jonny gasped audibly when he saw it.
"Boss, please, I-" Jonny was interrupted when his head caved in from the blow, his brain splattering across the floor. Nadeau's face shifted to become annoyed.
"What a fucking mess. Scald!"
"Yes, boss?"
"Get another one to do it. And make sure that this time, they actually do it!"
"Of course, boss. No problem."
Scald left, and Nadeau walked to the back of the big desk in the room and sat down angrily, skimming through some of the documents. Most were just order receipts and notes on the movement of supplies. The man growled when he received a report that one of his "caravans" was captured by Hawks.
Why don't you just deal with her yourself, hmm? I wouldn't recommend leaving it to someone else.
The voice made Nadeau wince, his head already beginning to throb.
I have better things to do than chase after the bitch. Scald'll handle it.
Is that so? If you insist. Not the wisest move, but, then again, she's your daughter.
Nadeau stood, leaving the room, and slamming the door shut. Already, several people headed to the room to clean it.
Back at the Aizawa household …
Aizawa woke up. He noticed he was slightly uncomfortable. He shifted, standing up before noticing he fell asleep on the couch with his wife. She mumbled something before turning over, and he smiled. He covered her with a blanket before going into the kitchen for a cup of coffee. Aizawa yawned, drinking the bitter drink before going back to the living room, but not before noticing a paper on the coffee table. He picked it up, scanning the drawing.
It was a pretty good sketch, Aizawa couldn't lie. Though it was done in pencil, there was an incredible amount of detail in it, from the faint pattern of the couch to the coffee table and the items on it to the people in question. It showed Aizawa and Ichika, holding each other, asleep. It was signed by Luna, and Aizawa almost overlooked the small detail next to it. Almost. Next to her name, a capital A was there, as well as a period to signify that it was abbreviated.
So, it seemed like Ichika's plan was working. Luna seemed happier, more content, more relaxed than Aizawa had ever seen her. And she was already a lot better than most kids her age. Aizawa scratched the stubble on his chin, thinking random thoughts before putting the drawing face down. He decided to take a peek and see if the girl was awake, though the chances of that were pretty low, considering it was about one in the morning.
When he opened the door slightly, he saw a figure curled up into a ball, surrounded by blankets. Ichika always told him that the girl slept like this, though Aizawa never saw it before. He closed the door before heading to his room and putting on some sweats.
When he was about to leave, Ichika stirred, stretching her arms.
"Azi?" the woman asked, still half-asleep "Are you leaving for patrol?"
"Yes, I am."
"Bye. Love you."
"Love you too."
The woman giggled happily before standing up and making her way to the bedroom. Aizawa made sure to lock the door before leaving, driving into the city. He may not be able to do the work he used to, but he still wanted to do something.
In the afternoon …
Luna awoke to the sun peering through her window onto her face. She sat up, her hair slightly messy before smacking her lips and preparing herself for the day. Luna still had an hour before Yaoyorozu's limousine was to pick her up, so Luna decided a quick meal would do.
When she made her way downstairs, she didn't see Ichika. Luna looked throughout the house, worrying slightly at not finding the woman. Eventually, she entered the kitchen, where a sticky note was taped to the fridge.
Gone to some stores. Azi is asleep if you need him. Have fun with your classmates! – Ichika.
Luna, now satisfied, quickly prepped some cereal and orange juice, which Ichika was kind enough to buy for her when Luna told her of her morning habits. Even though it was close to 12 pm, making this more akin to lunch than breakfast, Luna ate away, thinking of her pending visit to Yaoyorozu's house.
She heard rumors, of course, but she didn't have anything concrete. There were no actual photos of the mansion, as the small forest blocked all view of it, and it was constantly patrolled for intruders, so entering without the permission of the Yaoyorozu household was practically impossible.
Luna loaded her dirty bowl and glass into the dishwasher but frowned when she realized she had nothing to give Yaoyorozu when she arrived.
People usually give gifts to one another for when they visit, right? I don't really have anything though …
How about you draw their mansion? You're into that kind of thing, right?
Well, yes, but firstly, I don't have the time nor the reference material, and second, they probably have a ton of photos of the place inside. I doubt my drawing would be any good …
That's not true! Your drawings are great! Though, I have to agree with the other points … hmm …
Luna sat on the couch, thinking of what she could give as a present. As she sat, though, she noticed a new addition to the small cabinet in the corner that contained Aizawa's and Ichika's best memories. Inside of a picture frame now lied her drawing of the couple from last night. Luna smiled, relieved the two didn't find it creepy. Luna kind of struggled drawing the two but liked how they turned out. The furniture was easy enough too, and Luna's heart warmed when she realized that something she made was important enough to be placed there.
Soon enough, her phone began to ring, and Luna answered, seeing that it was Yaoyorozu.
"Hello?" said Luna.
"Hello, Luna-chan! The limo should be arriving any second now. Just wanted to let you know!" Yaoyorozu said.
"Thanks. I'll see you soon, Yaomomo."
"See you!"
Luna ended the call and made her way outside, where a limo pulled up to a couple seconds later. The driver exited, and Luna saw an amicable looking man, with pleasant brown hair and kind eyes.
"Hello there, miss. Would you happen to be Aizawa Luna?" he asked cheerily.
"Yes, that's me. I'm assuming you're here to take me to see Yaoyorozu-chan?"
"Yes, I am. Please, get comfortable!"
The man opened a door for her, closing it softly once she was sitting inside. The inside was incredibly spacious, filled with a variety of snacks and drinks. A window near the front rolled down as the limousine drove off, and she saw the man.
"I'd like to introduce myself, if it's no problem, Aizawa-kun?" The man began.
"Of course not." Luna politely replied.
"Fantastic. You may call me Klide, if it pleases you, miss."
"Okay. Nice to meet you, Klide-sama."
"Oh, so polite! No need for the -sama business, miss. Just Klide will do. I'm just a servant." Luna frowned slightly at that but nodded her understanding. "It's great that Miss Yaoyorozu is making new friends at U.A. My masters were slightly worried about her, but it seems that everything is going swimmingly for her."
"Yaomomo is a great person and friend. I'm honored she considers me enough of a friend to invite over, though I'm afraid I don't have anything to give her …"
"Oh, it's no problem! We can stop by a nice store on the way."
"Thank you, Klide."
"It's my pleasure."
After a few minutes of driving, Klide stopped the limo near a fancy store. Luna recalled that Yaoyorozu liked fruit like mangoes, so Luna bought a nice fruit basket with them, along with some other tropical fruits, such as coconut, pineapples, and even a few papayas.
After Luna bought it with some allowance money that Aizawa and Ichika were kind enough to give weekly to Luna, they arrived at the front gates of the Yaoyorozu mansion. When Luna saw the trees, though, Luna's eyes widened. She thought that it was an exaggeration, but there was quite literally a small forest in the property.
Klide pressed a buzzer, and moments later Yaoyorozu answered.
"Klide, is that you? Is Luna with you?"
"Yes, young mistress. We have arrived."
"Splendid! Come on in!"
Moments later, the gates opened, and Klide drove in. It was another couple minutes before they pulled up to the mansion, and Luna's mouth quite literally dropped at the building. It was practically a palace; the building was a sprawling four story mansion, made primarily from brick and marble. Luna knew it would be big, but not this big!
"Impressive, isn't it? It was built over two hundred years ago, by young mistress's great-great-great grandparents." Klide said, with a hint of pride in his voice.
"It's amazing." Luna said. Her eyes were drawn to the massive amount of detail and components to the mansion, greedily taking in the beautiful arches and symmetrical, neat windows. Luna's drawings seemed childish in comparison, though that was what Luna thought.
A few moments later, the door was opened by what appeared to be the butler, who bowed.
"Hello, Aizawa-san. I am the head butler of the Yaoyorozu estate, and I will take you to miss Yaoyorozu."
"Thank you very much." Luna said nervously, thinking that this was perhaps a dream. Her little gift basket seemed cheap, but she took it regardless.
The butler handed her a pair of incredibly soft slippers before leading her up to the third story and into a dining hall and informed her that Yaoyorozu would appear soon. He bowed and left, leaving Luna to appraise it. The room was beautifully composed, with golden-green curtains for the window, with a pretty marble fireplace placed in the center. The floor was covered in a nice, red carpet with a pattern running along it every half-pace. The table, which was incredibly long and could likely seat over fifty people, was made from oak, and seemed relatively simple, but the legs were incredibly detailed. As Luna continued to take in the room, Yaoyorozu and Jiro appeared from a set of ornate wooden doors.
Luna stood, gripping her fruit basket tightly in anticipation.
"Luna-chan!" the two young women greeted her, who smiled. While Jiro appeared to be wearing a leather jacket and jet-black shorts, Yaoyorozu wore an elegant skirt, with a pretty, pink shirt to complement it.
"Yaomomo, Jiro-chan. It's wonderful to see you two again." Luna held out her fruit basket, which Yaoyorozu took with a smile "Sorry the basket's not that great. I didn't expect your mansion to be so ornate …"
"It's no problem, Luna! Thank you for the gift, and, oh! It even has mangoes! How on earth did you know?"
"I must have overheard you one day."
"Luna-chan, this place is great! Let's show you around!" Jiro exclaimed, grabbing Luna's arm, and pulling her along as Yaoyorozu displayed room after room. The place was incredible, housing a multitude of sitting rooms, dining rooms, guest bedrooms, and even a massive library, which Luna was told that it went from the first floor all the way to the fourth, which blew Luna's mind.
After what appeared to be the end of the third floor, the three returned to the original dining room, and the two tour guides turned to Luna.
"Well, what do you think?" Yaoyorozu asked, slightly hesitant.
"I think … that this place is amazing! I could stay here forever, sketching all the rooms! The color balance, the perfect placement of furniture, the furniture itself … I could go on! It's incredible!" Luna breathed, her eyes glowing in admiration.
"I'm glad you liked it! See, Yaomomo? There was no need to worry!" Jiro said, nudging her companion, who blushed slightly.
"Yes, well. I'm glad that Luna likes it here. Luna, would you like some tea?" Yaoyorozu asked, and Luna nodded her head. Yaoyorozu disappeared for a moment, and Jiro turned to face her.
"Get ready for this. You probably don't know how many teas exist out there!"
Soon enough, Yaoyorozu arrived with a small, ornate trolley packed with a wide variety of teas, and, indeed, Luna couldn't believe how many there were.
"Sorry there are so little. I didn't know how much to prepare, hehe." Yaoyorozu grinned sheepishly, rubbing the bac of her neck in embarrassment.
"This is what you call 'little'? I'd hate to see what a lot is." Luna remarked, and the three sat down, conversing with each other before the topic inevitably reached Todoroki.
"So, Luna-chan. You like Todoroki-kun, do you?" Jiro asked, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
"No! I mean, maybe! It's confusing, I don't know!" Luna said, her face slowly turning red "I think I just have a crush on him."
"Well, what you said certainly sounded more than a simple crush." Yaoyorozu teased, and Luna groaned.
"It wasn't even me, either! I told it to keep it to herself, and as soon as I said it, she just blurted it out!"
"Who's 'she'?" Jiro asked, confused.
"I think it's easier to show you than to explain it." Luna said, and, within a second, Luna was replaced with Bast, who now sat taller than the two girls next to her. They blinked owlishly at the deity, who leaned back in her seat, stretching.
"Hello, kittens. I'm Bast." The deity introduced herself, glancing over the two incredulous girls next to her.
"So, you're not Luna-chan?" Jiro asked hesitantly, and Bast shook her head.
"No. She's up here." Bast tapped her head "She's currently taking my place for a few minutes, before our time runs out, and we revert back. I'm Luna's very first ancestor; the creator of her family tree, so to speak."
"That's incredible! You must be thousands of years old!" Yaoyorozu said, and Bast frowned slightly at that.
"Well, yeah, but could you keep it down? I don't exactly like hearing it, you know."
"Oh, my apologies! That was very tactless, wasn't it?"
"No problemo! Anyways, yes, I did kind of speak Luna's feelings for her, but seriously! If I never said anything, she would've been to shy to say much! All I did was nudge them in the right direction."
And within a moment, Luna replaced Bast, not wanting to go up to her limit with her. Even that short transformation slightly tired the young girl.
"Anyways, that's Bast. And I told her to keep it a secret, but, oh well." Luna said. "What about you two, do you like anyone?" The two girls turned bright red, and turned away from her, mumbling words too quickly for Luna to hear.
"Nope." Squeaked Yaoyorozu.
"Nu-uh. Nope, nobody. Me? Crush on someone? You're funny, Luna-chan." Jiro tried to laugh it off, and Luna put two and two together, smiling all the while.
They like each other, huh?
It appears so! Though they both seem so shy about it. You know, I have an idea … You want to get back at them, don't you?
Luna smiled, picking up what Bast was putting down, so to speak.
"No? Really? That's quite interesting. You know, I did hear a few rumors …" Luna began, speaking casually. The two girls beside her looked at her with slight panic written on their faces.
"Really?" asked Jiro.
"Yup, though I don't know if I want to say it … They are rumors, after all, and I would hate to say such things when they clearly might be wrong …"
"No, it's fine, Luna! You can tell us!" Yaoyorozu said hurriedly, both girls desperate to hear about these rumors.
"Well, I have two, really. The first one is about Jiro-chan …" Luna tantalized the two, who colored even more, as if that was possible.
"Just spit it out, Luna-chan!" Jiro groaned.
"Very well. I heard a certain rumor … that you liked a certain boy in our class." Jiro seemed to defuse somewhat, though Yaoyorozu looked slightly troubled "A certain boy named Kaminari-kun."
Jiro breathed a sigh of relief "On, no! We're just friends, honest." Yaoyorozu brightened at that, and Luna smirked slightly. This was perfect. Make the two at ease before springing the real trap.
"Okay then. The second one, however … well, this one's certainly caught my attention. There's a whisper or two, that the both of you … like each other." Luna whispered, and, instantly, the two girls began to splutter excuses.
"That's crazy! I mean, I like Yaomomo as a best friend, but -"
"-nothing more than that! Jiro-chan is a great friend, but -"
"- she's just a friend! Nothing more!"
The two girls finally stopped, and Luna gave them a knowing look.
"Alright, alright. It was just a rumor. I totally believe you two." Luna laughed, and the two others sighed, finally relaxing. "So, what do you two want to do now?"
"Luna-chan. I wanted to ask you another question if that's all right?" Yaoyorozu asked.
"Sure thing, Yaomomo."
"Are you … Aizawa-sensei's daughter?" Luna froze, a smile still on her face, "It's just, at the festival, you were announced as Luna Aizawa, and … well … I believe I saw you leave with the festival with Aizawa-sensei …"
"I-It's nothing like that. As much as I would love to be, I didn't get that lucky. He's just my temporary guardian. My father is currently away on a business trip, and …" Luna paused, realizing she probably couldn't say anything about the attempt at her life "He offered, so … I'm currently living with him and his wife now."
"Aizawa-sensei has a wife? I wonder what she's like?" Jiro mused, her chin now on her hand, which was leaning on the table.
"She's completely different in every way imaginable. Perhaps you two could meet her one day? I would like to invite you over, with their permission of course."
"That would be great." Yaoyorozu said, bobbing her head up and down.
"Oh, Luna-chan! I just realized; do you want to see a movie?" Jiro asked excitedly.
"Uh, sure?" Lun was confused by the sudden question, but Yaoyorozu just sighed.
"Jiro-chan, you really need to get over it."
"Get over it?! Are you serious?!" squawked Jiro "Not everybody has their own personal movie theater inside their home!"
"You have a movie theater inside your home?" Luna asked, surprised.
Yaoyorozu just shrugged "Well, yes, but it's nothing special …"
"You're just too modest. Let's go! There's this great movie that came out recently; it's called …"
The three girls entered the room, with Yaoyorozu leading the way, and Luna had to admit, it was mighty impressive. The room was about the same size as a regular movie theater room, complete with the chairs with foldable seats, the large screen, a projector booth at the back, and even a snack bar just out front of the room, filled with popcorn, candy, smoothies, and other assorted snacks.
"Wow. I thought it would be a regular room with a projector, but it's like you copy and pasted one." Luna finally said.
"See! I told you!" Jiro cried victoriously, and Yaoyorozu huffed.
"I'm sure plenty of people have their own movie theater room."
"Maybe so, but how many have their own snack bar?" Jiro retorted.
Yaoyorozu made to answer, but then closed her mouth and crossed her arms over her chest. Luna laughed at the antics of her two friends.
They then watched the movie Jiro wanted. It was called To Rock or Not to Rock, and it was about a fledgling musician who wanted to participate in a contest. The winner would become part of a popular music group, but the girl's parents made it difficult for her, refusing to give permission for participating. In the end, the girl managed to become part of the group, and the movie ended relatively soon after that. Luna and Yaoyorozu thought it was pretty cool, but Jiro loved it, unshed tears in her eyes quickly wiped away, but the two others saw and teased her slightly about it.
The three sat at the original dining hall, and Yaoyorozu ordered lunch for the three individuals. Relatively soon, several servants filed in, all with carts of food. Luna eyed the large amount of food, not believing this was just for lunch. Jiro and Yaoyorozu didn't react much, conversing amongst themselves.
"This is just for lunch?" Luna asked in disbelief.
"Well, yes. Actually, I asked for a little less this time, but yes. Just for lunch." Yaoyorozu responded, and the three began to eat. There was a wide variety of foods, from expensive caviar to mashed potatoes. The three girls ate their fill, and the servants cleared everything away, leaving the three be.
Conversation was started once again by the three, speaking of their families. Luna listened intently, wondering what normal families were like. She then sighed because she realized she had a normal one for a while. And then, it wasn't.
Crash!
The loud sound made the three freeze, looking towards one of the exits. Before they could do anything, however, a man burst into the room, kicking the double doors open. He was dressed fully in black, with only his brown eyes exposed; everything else was covered, even his hair. He wore a dark purple cloak, the inside a lighter shade than the outside.
"Up!" the intruder barked, holding what appeared to be a submachine gun at Luna. She rose carefully. The two girls next two her remained frozen. "You two, hands where I can see 'em!"
Jiro and Yaoyorozu did as commanded, raising their hands so that the man could see them. The man motioned for Luna to walk away from the others, which she did, her mind racing a million miles an hour. She then noticed an emblem on his clothing; a purple cape, crossed with two spears. Luna gulped.
"You're from the Phantom Cloak." It was more of a statement than a question.
The man grunted "So, ye heard of us, have ye?"
"No, but I recognize that symbol."
"Jonny boy failed miserably; I ain't gonna end up like him, lemme tell ya. I'll just shoot ye up nice and sharp like, then I'll be takin' my leave. On yer knees!"
Luna lowered herself onto her knees, preparing to let Bast take over any second. It seems like not letting the deity out for her maximum time was a good choice. The man aimed the SMG at her head, and Luna bowed her head, not wanting to give her action away. He shot.
The place where Luna kneeled was now empty. The only thing that remained was a small splatter of blood. The man looked around wildly "What in tarnation? The hell you go?"
"Right behind you, kitten!" A deceptively cheerful voice said. Before the man could do anything, Bast clocked him over the head, causing him to collapse, unconscious. Jiro and Yaoyorozu instantly relaxed, letting go of held breaths.
"Now, what do I do with you, hmm? I could snap your spine, paralyzing you for life, but that's too quick. I could snap every single bone in your body; that takes forever though. Choices, choices …" Bast trailed off, her eyes gleaming with a malevolent light.
"B-Bast?" Yaoyorozu asked slowly, afraid she might kill the man, "We should give him to s-security, and they can hand him over to the p-police."
"Yeah, no need to do anything; Luna-chan would just get in trouble …" Jiro affirmed.
Bast looked at the two of them, and they shuddered at the mad glint in her eye "I don't know how the rules have changed since our reign, but attacking any god or a pharaoh, a child of the gods, was solved with slow, painful death. They were then tossed into a river, thereby refusing them an afterlife, condemning them to eternal restlessness forever. Though Luna is not my child, she is my descendent, and is included when this punishment is brought up."
"Bast, we understand. Luna is our friend too …" Jiro said soothingly.
"We understand your anger and fury, but we need to turn him over to the proper authorities." Yaoyorozu said and Bast narrowed her eyes. For a second, the two thought she'd attack them, but sighed, dropping the unconscious man roughly.
"Fine. Do whatever you want with him. And get a doctor, would you?" Bast spat, giving the man a final kick.
"For him?" Jiro asked, confused.
"No, for Luna. She got hit, though in the shoulder instead of the head. Despite our near instant transformation, the bullet still made contact. The bullet thankfully only grazed her, but still; she could go into shock."
Bast sat in a chair with a huff, waiting until she couldn't any longer before disappearing, leaving Luna in her wake. The girl instantly groaned, clutching her right shoulder. Yaoyorozu instantly rushed away while Jiro sat down next to Luna, tearing a part of the disguised man's purple cloak to staunch the wound.
Withing minutes, several cop cars arrived, and Luna was whisked away to an ambulance, where several paramedics fussed over her while Yaoyorozu told the cops the story of what happened. Eventually, Luna was whisked away to a nearby hospital to assess the damage the bullet did.
Luna now sat in the hospital; her shoulder was heavily bandaged, and still hurt when she moved. Luna sighed, sitting in the hospital bed. Aizawa initially didn't want Luna to go because of something like this, and, like he predicted, she could have died. She also put Jiro's and Yaoyorozu's lives in danger as well.
A moment later, the door to her room opened, and Aizawa and Ichika entered. Luna looked away from them as Ichika rushed over, shooting her with a million questions before Aizawa put a hand on her shoulder, calming the frantic woman.
"Luna." Aizawa spoke, and she looked at him, shame in her eyes.
"You said this would happen, but I didn't listen." Luna said, "I put Jiro-chan's and Yaomomo's lives in danger because of my selfish desire to visit them. I'm sorry."
"Luna dear, this wasn't your fault! You weren't the one that pointed the gun at them, that horrible man was!" Luna didn't respond to that.
"Why are they after me? What did I do to them to warrant this aggression?"
"We're currently finding that out." Said an unfamiliar voice, and a man with golden hair and massive red-brown wings stepped into the room. Luna recognized him as Hawks, one of the strongest and most popular heroes in Japan, currently sitting at Rank 3. "How you doing, kiddo?"
"Okay, I guess. Sorry I can't greet you politely, the doctors said not to move for a while …"
"No problem! Don't worry about it!" The man said with a laugh, waving it off. "But there are a few questions I would like to ask, if that's okay."
Luna looked at Aizawa, who nodded.
"Sure."
"What were you doing when the man broke in and attacked you three? We heard the story from your friends, but they might have missed something."
"We just finished eating, and the servants left, carting away the leftover food. Jiro-chan was just beginning to speak about her family when the man interrupted us."
"Okay, and do you recognize him?" Hawks lifted up a mugshot of the man, and now, Luna could see his features. He looked ordinary enough, with brown eyes and grey hair, though his skin was a metallic grey color, similar to Tetsutetsu, actually.
"No. He's not related to Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu by chance, is he?"
"No, their Quirks are just similar; he can manipulate metal, influencing it in any way he likes, and that includes bullets that are in midair. Okay then, what happened next?"
"He demanded I get up while Jiro-chan and Yaoyorozu-chan raised their arms where he could see them, then forced me to kneel in front of him. He told me that he was going to kill me … He said he wouldn't fail, like the last person. I think he said the other man's name was Jon? Jonny? Something like that. And then, he shot. I tried to leap out of the way, but he still hit me. I … I mean, Bast managed to incapacitate the man afterwards."
"Bast?"
"She's … a part of my Quirk. Basically, she's a deity from Ancient Egypt, but I can summon her for a few minutes per day. She takes control during that time, and I'm relegated to the back of her mind, kind of how she is right now."
"Okay … Anything else?"
Luna paused, thinking "I don't think so."
Hawks nodded "Okay, rest up, kiddo. Hopefully, we'll have answers for you, and you can leave soon. Take it easy, 'kay?"
"Thank you." Hawks waved a goodbye and left the three alone in the room.
Ichika sighed, sitting down next to Luna and began to stroke her hair, while Luna leaned into the woman, desperate for comfort. Though she didn't show it, Luna was incredibly shaken by the event. If she wasn't fast enough, she could have been in a morgue right now …
Aizawa finally spoke "Okay, so … Few new rules. One, you won't be visiting anyone anymore, so as not to put your life and the lives of others at risk. Two, never leave the house alone; always travel with someone else, preferably me or Ichika. Three, Ichika and I are going to need hourly updates when we aren't together."
"Azi, isn't that too much? I mean, I don't want her to feel caged." Ichika protested.
"Ichi, I don't want that either. The fact remains, however, that this was the second attack on her, and this time, she was hurt. I … We can't risk another attack." Ichika was about to say something, but Lune spoke first.
"Okay. I understand. Can … can friends come over, at least?" Luna asked hesitantly.
"Sure."
The three left an hour later, when Luna was dismissed by the doctors there. The car ride and rest of the day was spent relatively quietly, everybody feeling down from the incident. Luna was the quietest she had ever been, idly picking at her food during dinner and retreating to her bedroom relatively early in the evening, when it was only about 7 p.m.
As Luna lay in bed, she sighed. She had been warned not to take any showers or baths for the next few days, in order not to reopen the wound or irritate it, and Luna carefully shifted, wincing as pain laced down her arm and body. Luna whimpered, suddenly soul-crushingly sad. She wanted to flip her table, to smash her laptop against the ground. As her eyes flicked to her drawings, she wanted nothing more than to light a fire and watch them burn. At the same time, however, Luna just wanted to curl up into a fetal position and just give up.
Why can't I just have a normal childhood! I just want to be normal, with a normal life, normal family, and normal friends! Why does something always have to ruin everything I worked so hard to create!
Very soon, panic began to grip Luna's heart, and she began to shake, sweat dripping down her face. Luna began to flail, trying to hold onto her surroundings as she felt the beginning of a panic attack take hold. She closed her eyes, bracing for what was to come. However, just as suddenly the panic came, it departed. Luna cracked an eye open, bewildered that she wasn't back there.
Don't worry, kitten. I won't let anything happen to you ever again. I may be a goddess of cats, but I am also the goddess of protection and women; I will do everything in my powers to keep you safe from everything and everyone.
Despite Bast's kind words, they did nothing to soothe the melancholy girl, and she fell asleep, not even bothering to change out of her clothes.
Hello, and welcome back! Sorry this update was so late in comparison to others, I finally came back to school this week, and am still catching up on missing/late work, as well as tests. Schedule should be back to normal in the next week to two weeks, so there's that. Also, I do ship Yaoyorozu and Jiro together in this fanfic. I understand that this probably won't be the case in the actual anime/manga, as the manga implies a Kaminari x Jiro ship, so consider this a bit of AU, if that's what you prefer. Also, in one of my previous author notes, I said that Quirks in this fanfic are ancient, but I now realize that doesn't make sense in context of what's actually said in this fanfic, so let's say Quirks first began to appear in the 1900s. Yeah, that seems a lot better. That works a lot better with the image of the days of chaos, when the World Wars are right around the corner. I'm currently trying out a new thing with the warning, posting what specifically could be a problem here, so, let me know if that seems like a good idea or not! Anyways, just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who followed and favorited! It really inspires me to push forward. Oh, and the last chapter was the last one already written, so I caught up with where I'm currently at, so, if chapters take a bit longer than usual, that's why. Anyways, stay safe out there! – Bananaman out!
Mirrorflower: Glad you enjoyed the chapter, and I hope you continue to!
