Chapter 1
Anakin Skywalker's world slowly returned to him at a glacier pace. Wanting to open his eyes and trying were two things at the moment that he battled with inside his mind. His head currently felt as though a Rancore was doing a mating dance upon his head.
'Why was he even in this predicament? What transpired?' Then, as he lay there with his eyes closed and his senses and the headache slowly tapering off, he let one eye slide open. The area that came into focus was the floor of what looked like an ancient temple. 'Funny, when did I go into a temple?' Anakin thought.
As he let his other eye open, he slowly moved from the crumbled heap on the floor on his side to now lying on his back and looking up at the cave.
Naturally, he reached out through the Force, searching for his once Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padawan Ahsoka Tano. He realized with full fledge panic he could not feel either one. It wasn't like it was numb from them being unconscious or himself. No, it was as though it never existed in the first place. It was as though he had never formed a bond, and Anakin was indeed alone in the universe. With this startling discovery, he sat up and would immediately regret this action. The entire world tilted on its axis as he became ill suddenly from the impulsive movement of sitting up, and Anakin then turned to his side and relieved his stomach of all of its contents.
The amount of time it took for him to feel better was rather pathetic, but who would know? Finally, as the pain of his headache and vertigo subsided, he could remember where he was and what had happened to cause him to be in such a state.
(A few hours ago)
"Oh come on Obi-Wan what are you so scared of?"
Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Generals of the Grand Army Republic, stood in front of the entrance to a temple that was purely Sith. The said Temple had recently been discovered, and to the utter dismay of General Kenobi, in all their wisdom, the Jedi Council then told him to investigate said new Temple.
'Possible clues to our past and theirs that could end this war. Go to this Temple, see what you may find.' Master of the Order, Master Mace Windu, instructed Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Those words rang in Obi-Wan's head as they stood outside the Temple and found his feet didn't want to budge. He didn't even want to go inside. Instead, he discovered that Anakin was willing to go in, living up to his title of Hero with No Fear. Obi-Wan was desperately trying to live up to his name, which was to be the famous Negotiator and negotiate out of this situation.
"Anakin, you don't feel it? How the Force feels...off here?"
As Anakin slowly started to trek inside, he stopped to feel out into the Force but found that whatever Obi-Wan was sensing was something only the older Jedi could sense. He didn't feel anything.
"Come on Master. I think your just being over precautious. Besides, it's a Temple. What kind of harm could it do?"
Anakin, not wanting to wait any longer for his over-cautious Master, left Obi-Wan standing there still looking into the dark Temple, unsure of what course of action he wanted to take. 'Famous last words.' Obi-Wan Kenobi thought as he followed Anakin Skywalker into the Sith Temple.
"Master catch."
Obi-Wan Kenobi almost jumped out of his skin due to how he felt about this Temple in the first place when Anakin tossed something at him. Obi-Wan caught it and immediately dropped it when he saw it was a Sith artifact. The relic looked to be older than Grandmaster Yoda himself.
"Anakin." He grumbled his old Padawan's name. The same tone he always used when Anakin was up to no good. "Don't touch anything, we don't know where's it been or what it could do."
Then without warning, Obi-Wan Kenobi felt something scream at him in the Force and saw Anakin standing next to something in the far corner. He saw Anakin's fingers hovering over an object that screamed nothing but danger to Obi-Wan.
"Anakin...no, DON'T!" Obi-Wan yelled across the Temple, but it was too late. Anakin had been drawn to the relic. It had been singing to him, whispering, calling, and wanting him. Almost in a haze, he had walked over and reached out when he caught Obi-Wan yelling his name. But something came over Anakin. Instead of "no, don't," Anakin perceived something entirely different. He heard, "yes, do it!." With that, Anakin reached out with his hand and gently touched the relic. The beautiful siren that had been trying to make him handle it disappeared and replaced a shrilling and horrible screaming sound. With that, the next thing Anakin knew was a blinding light and then sudden darkness.
(Present Time)
After recalling what had transpired to arrive at him in his current situation, Anakin realized the Temple no longer looked like how he previously remembered it. Instead, it looked ransacked and destroyed and picked clean. The one Obi-Wan and Anakin had walked into had relic after relic; this one had nothing. Even the one he had touched was now gone. Judging by the dust collection, the item had not been there for quite some time.
'Great Anakin, what did you get yourself into this time?' He should have listened to Obi-Wan, who had told him not to touch anything. But, admitting that his old Master was right would be a cold day on Mustafar.
Knowing he couldn't spend any more time just lying around expecting his old Master to come and fix everything. 'You got yourself into this, figure it out Skywalker.' With heavy legs, he began making the long trek outside. Out of force of habit, he reached for the bond between Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. Anakin didn't realize how used to the older Jedi's presence he had gotten until it was no longer there. How much of a Force presence Obi-Wan was and how much he comforted Anakin's scurrying thoughts and anxieties. Even when Anakin wasn't even looking for reassurance, his old Jedi Master was always there, sending gentle warmth or playfulness through the bond. Now not having it made Anakin feel utterly alone and cold. Not only that, lingering in the back of Anakin's mind was how the Force somehow felt heavier and darker, which was very troubling.
Anakin Skywalker had never sensed such darkness within the Force. It was almost suffocating. He always thought it felt off ever since the Clone Wars. But this was something different, dripping with darkness as though there was no light in the universe. Anakin couldn't help but wonder if this was how it felt during the Old Republic when hundreds of Sith users were running around.
Finally, Anakin, who had been lost in his thoughts about how the Force felt and why there was no bond between his Old Master and Padawan, reached the outskirts of, what was the name of this city? Kirking Sithspit City. That was the new name of the place, Anakin decided. Besides, what city prospers with an old ancient Temple right outside on the outskirts? But Anakin came to a startling discovery. Like the Temple, the city had done a complete flip and almost could make Mos Eisley look like paradise. Before, the Kirking Sithspit City was vibrant with towering skyscrapers, and colorful buildings, with various creatures coming and going. Now, it was an empty shell of itself, as though the war had torn through its streets and never allowed it to evolve. It reminded Anakin a lot of the towns the Hutts owned and controlled.
Anakin truly wished he knew what had happened to him when he touched that relic. 'Why did he always have to touch everything?' Anakin thought. 'It was as though he had to touch it, make sure it was real.' If he had to make an educated guess, he was in some other reality judging by the Temple and city. But how was that even possible? Not only that, but who was going to be here? Who was an ally, and who was a foe? Deciding it may not be best to reveal he was a Jedi or had a lightsaber, he hid it from any possible prying eyes. As he wandered the streets trying to figure out his next move, he felt a tug in the Force. It was trying to pull him in a general direction gently. Though at first, Anakin wanted to ignore it, it was the whole reason he was in this mess in the first place. He remembered the stupid relic calling him to touch it in the first place. But, for some reason, this felt light and innocent. So allowing his feet to be guided, he finally stopped in front of what appeared to be a transportation office.
Deciding to go inside, he walked in to find a young human male sitting behind the counter, looking bored out of his mind. The child had auburn hair and looked somewhat petite for his age, as though he could use a good few meals in him. But what stood out the most to Anakin was the blatantly obvious control collar on his neck. Anakin could feel himself starting to bristle at the very idea of what this child was and why a collar was around his neck in the first place.
Caught up in his emotions, Anakin realized the young child was asking him a question. Moreover, Anakin realized this young child had striking blue eyes.
"Excuse me, where are you headed?"
"Where am I headed?" Anakin asked in return.
"Usually if people want to come here, they want to leave the great place that is this city. So I ask again, where are you headed?"
The boy spoke as though he had been bored with explaining it to Anakin in the first place and as though this was not the first speech he had given. Anakin looked at the boy again but, this time, took in his features. 'Why did this kid look so damn familiar?' The reddish hair, the blue eyes that could cast judgment even from such tiny eyes, and just a hint of an arched eyebrow.
Then it hit Anakin like he had been thrown from his pod racer. He let out a long string of Huttese curse words, which the young child did not seem to comprehend. Standing in front of him was Obi-Wan Kenobi, but a much smaller version of him.
'Wait. Who knew his Master was so adorable as a child?'
The young child arched his eyebrow again at the Anakin at what he thought was a long string of curse words. Seeing the look cross little Obi-Wan's face, Anakin quickly regained his composure, trying not to freak out. 'If only Ahsoka could be here to witness this.'
"Forgive me. Where are my manners? Anakin Skywalker." Anakin gave a slight bow and then put his hand out to shake Obi-Wan's hand. Anakin had tried to imitate Obi-Wan from all the times he had heard his Master say it countless times. Anakin was replicating Obi-Wan to Obi-Wan. If that didn't make his head spin, he didn't know what would. Obi-Wan was giving him that judgmental look again. Cheeky bastard. If that didn't cement this was Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin didn't know what would.
Obi-Wan didn't know what to think, 'wait, what is his name again? Ani...Ana...whatever this guy's name was, whoever he was, he was a strange one.' Obi-Wan thought.
Obi-Wan had never seen this person since he had lived here. Everyone knew each other. It's not like anyone came to this town on purpose. So what he was doing here had Obi-Wan wanting to ask so many questions, but that was just rude. It was not his place to ask customers why they wanted to leave. 'Hell, I'd leave too if I could.' He thought. But yet, here, this young man stood in front of him looking disheveled and like he had been walking for hours. This guy looked like he was on spice. He is probably a former slave who earned his freedom and trying now to leave this planet. Though the more Obi-Wan looked at this young kid with a soft smile on his lips, Obi-Wan felt like the man meant no harm to him, that he was harmless. Finally deciding he would accept this man's hand, he put his hand out as well.
"Obi-Wan Kenobi. Please to meet you."
When Anakin Skywalker finally grasped Obi-Wan's hand, he half expected to feel something from the Force. But Anakin should have known better. Instead, Obi-Wan completely cut off from the Force with that repellent neckband around his neck.
After dropping their hands, Anakin was never a subtle person by any means. Sometimes it worked in his favor, and others, well, the other times, he didn't want to think about it. Today though, he was going to hope it worked for him instead of working against him.
"Why are you wearing that? Sure looks uncomfortable." Anakin asked as he pointed to his neck.
Obi-Wan looked rather uncomfortable by the question but, instead of ignoring it, just shrugged his shoulders. "Oh, this? My Master says I have to wear it. That it protects me."
"Oh? Where is this Master?" Anakin practically growled under his breath. Feeling his temperature rise by just saying the word.
'Maybe in this world, Obi-Wan is the slave.' Anakin thought as his eyes searched for Obi-Wan's "Master."
"Not sure. Somewhere. Said something about feeling somethin distubing and he would be back."
Anakin found this unsettling and not what he thought the kid would say. 'Maybe, Obi-Wan's Master was Force Sensitive? So whoever that was, was purposely keeping Obi-Wan Kenobi from the force?
Who would do something so awful to a child of the Force? Doing such a thing was revolting and made Skywalker want to do some un-Jedi-like stuff to people. Taking someone's ability from the Force and not allowing them to reach for the Force was like limb cutting. Blinding one's abilities was taking the very thing that made them unique. 'Wonder how long Obi-Wan has been cut from the Force?' Anakin thought. Anakin's thoughts were interrupted, for he felt a sudden presence in the Force before Obi-Wan even glanced past him and said, "Master."
Anakin knew that presence and would know even with his eyes shut. Though, for some odd reason, it didn't feel as dark as it so many times that he had run into it. Without giving it a second thought, Anakin brought his lightsaber out from its hiding place and ignited it in one swift motion.
"Dooku." He spat out the name.
Pointing the weapon toward Dooku.
'Was that fear in Count Dooku's eyes and even Force presence? Good about time he realized his place.' Anakin thought.
"Not sure what sick game you are doing Dooku, but ends now."
Anakin directed his attention to Obi-Wan, and when Dooku realized what Anakin's intentions were, Dooku cried out.
"NO, DON'T!"
Not listening to Dooku's warning, Anakin used the Force on the collar around Obi-Wan's neck and smashed it, effectively dismantling it as it crumbled away from the child's neck.
The Force that had been denied by Obi-Wan Kenobi for so long slammed back into the young child. Anakin then felt Obi-Wan's sudden existence in the Force, but it was not the same as he had grown to love. When Anakin reached out to Obi-Wan, his presence was so bright it was almost overwhelming for both men standing next to the child. But, then, as loud as the broadcast had been, it came to a halt as Obi-Wan could no longer handle the sudden onslaught of the Force being returned to him and promptly fainted in a heap on the floor.
Dooku looked on in horror at Obi-Wan and then back at Anakin. "Do you have any idea what you have done?"
"Yes. I'm saving him from you." Anakin replied.
Before Count Dooku could respond to Anakin, Anakin sent a strong Force push into Dooku. The much older man had no chance to defend himself from the Force push and was effectively removed from further altercation by being slammed into the furthest wall from them.
Anakin deactivated his lightsaber and vaulted over the counter, scooping up the unconscious form of Obi-Wan, and ran out the back of the shop. He could not believe his luck as a starship was there for his taking. Without wasting any time, Anakin climbed the ramp put Obi-Wan down in the seat next to him, and buckled him in. He pushed the hair gently out of his Master's face and gave a soft smile. Turning around, he got to work starting up the ship, bringing it to life, and setting up the flight sequences quickly. he felt something again and knew it was Dooku. Anakin could see Dooku stumbling out the back of the building, blood running down his neck from the hit to his head on the wall.
Anakin was not a lip reader and never has been. But it didn't take a genius to see Dooku screaming, "wait." Of course, Anakin would do no such thing. Instead, he gave his two-finger salute from above his eyebrow. With that send-off, Anakin hit the thrusters, and they were off the planet in no time. Anakin finally felt like he could relax again, yet something at the back of his mind made him think he had done something terrible. He could hear his old Master clear as day, "I have a bad feeling about this."
As Anakin looked over the unconscious form of his younger Master, he couldn't help but say out loud, "Great job Anakin. You have only been here less than a few hours, and you have stolen a younger version of your Master from Count Dooku who will probably send the best bounty hunters he can find after you. Not like it can't get any worse, can it?" Anakin set a destination, hoping for the best but planning for the worse.
TBC….
Author Notes: Ever since I wrote "The Devil's Gonna Come," I wanted to write another young Obi-Wan. A few ideas came to mind, but mostly, they have been done to death and by better authors than me! So why not this story? I know, an SW character gets thrown into another reality; say it isn't so! Not original. But yet, I don't think this idea has been done a thousand times over, like my other story, "Bless the Broken Road," which I'm getting tired of lol. There I said it. So welcome to the Thunderdome. Who knows, maybe Maul will be a dancer, and Paps be a good ole grand Pappy...(just kidding on that last sentence). Anyways hope you enjoyed it and want more.
