STAR TREK

CHAOTIC FORCE

CHAPTER TWO

Darth Chaos had just departed the Talosian system and set his course for his second home on Vulcan. He gazed coldly at the navigational computer, occasionally glancing at a photograph stationed to his right. Every time he saw the photograph, he felt a mixture of happiness, only to be replaced by sadness, and the sadness slowly turned to anger.

"Caitlin," he said softly, "if I had only known the true nature of the Dark Side of the Force, you would still be alive and in my arms." Also in the photograph was his younger self. They were engaged in a loving embrace. Both were smiling, as love radiated from their hearts and touched one another. It was the only time that he felt true happiness.

Then his mind wandered to his youth. He remembered the older youth, full-blooded Vulcans, who ridiculed him for his biological heritage: quarter-Vulcan, quarter-human, half-Romulan. "Earther," he heard the voices say, "you're not even half-Vulcan like your father! EARTHER! EARTHER! EARTH-"

"ENOUGH!" Darth Chaos shouted in a rage, having visions of trtavelling to Vulcan to seek out those who ridiculed him, only to show them the true nature of his powers. He had visions of using the Force to squeeze their airways shut. He grinned sadisticly as he envisioned them struggling to breathe, their eyes beginning to bug out, begging for mercy.

Chaos suddenly drove those visions out. "Concentrate, Lord Chaos," he said to himself. "Focus on your task." All throughout his life, even during his past as Sonal, Darth Chaos was self-critical. It was a tactic he used to force himself to improve and to strive for excellence. And it was a tactic that succeeded. He was the youngest Vulcan to ever graduate Starfleet Academy. He was the firtst cadet to achieve perfect grades and perfect assessments since his father Spock before him. And despite never entertaining the thought of joining Starfleet, his grandfather Sarek used those same tactics to become the longest-serving Vulcan ambassador, a position which he rose to after the death of former Starfleet officer T'Pol.

Upon arriving in the Vulcan system, Chaos forced himself to bury his dark side, and suddenly he was Sonal. He opened a hailing channel. "Vulcan security, this is Ambassador Sonal, requesting permission to land."

"Permission granted, Ambassador," a voice said over the intercom.

Under the guise of Sonal, Chaos exited his shuttlecraft and walked to the childhood home which he was raised in by his parents, Spock and Saavik. He slightly smiled at the garden, remembering all the nights when he sat there gazing at the stars with his pet sellat, which he affectionately named I'Chaiya after his father's.

As he studied the outside surroundings, he heard a familiar voice. "Oh, it's that Earther who isn't even half Vulcan…"

Sonal looked at the Vulcan. "Always a pleasure to hear you dabble in the irrelevant, Serak. I see you're still the illogical bigot that you've always been."

Serak looked confused. "Illogical? ILLOGCIAL? And what do YOU know about logic? You're not even half-Vulcan! How dare you talk to me in that manner."

Sonal's voice became tinged in anger. "Logic isn't the be-all, end-all, Serak. For far too long, Vulcan has used logic to shut itself off from other sentient civilizations. No, Serak, we as Vulcans must reach out with our feelings and embrace a larger world view and not rely solely on the dogmatic view of only one race."

Serak felt anger. And Sonal felt it, too. "Your lapse of logic is why your parents are dead!" Those words hit Sonal like venom from the poison claws of a le-matya. "You killed your mother!" Sonal felt anger rise. "You killed your father!" Sonal felt himself slip away into the dark void of Darth Chaos. "You killed the High Priestess! And you killed...Caitlin Ya-" Suddenly, Serak's voice was cut off, as he felt his airway constrict. He looked at Sonal's hand. He realized what Sonal meant. And he realized what Sonal had become. "S-s-sith…" he said with a gutteral moan.

"Indeed you are a fast learner," Darth Chaos said. "It's a pity that your realization comes at the end of your insignificant life." He squeezed his fingers together, causing Serak's airway to slowly close off. He heard Serak struggle to say something.

"A-a-alive...Caitlin….is...a-a-alive…" Suddenly, Darth Chaos released his grip, and he looked surprised.

"How do you know?"

"I...overheard High Security," Serak said while gasping for breath. "She...was found floating orbiting Earth after the Enterprise destroyed her Borg Cube at the Battle of Sector 001."

"That's the battle where the Borg tried to alter history," Chaos said. "Is she still on the Enterprise?"

"I'm afraid I don't know," Serak said. "That information was more classified than Talos IV...I mean, Coruscant."

"Come with me, Serak," Chaos said. "Help me search for Caitlin. And...I can teach you to reach out with your feelings and break free from the chains which have binded our race for two thousand years. But remember, the Dark Side is a power that some consider to be...un-natural."

Serak looked at Chaos. He felt the powers of Chaos' words, and he felt the need to follow him. But was it his own will, or was Chaos seducing him as Palpatine did to Sonal? As Palpatine did to Anakin? "I will do...whatever you ask...master." He fell to his knees.

"You...have chosen wisely, my apprentice," Chaos said. Dark clouds appeared in the skies, masking the twin Vulcan suns and making morning appear to be night. The dark voice of Darth Chaos spoke out. "Now, my apprentice, we must gather all information, classified or not, regarding the location of Caitlin Yar."

"Yes, my master," Serak said. "We shall find it...in your childhood home." Chaos looked stunned. Had his own parents known? As they entered the home, Chaos found a recording hidden in his own father's study. He placed the disc-shaped object into his father's computer terminal, and he watched a recording of his father speaking:

Sonal, it is my solemn wish that you never discover this recording, for if you do, it could destroy your trust in myself and your mother. I am aware of your love and devotion to Caitlin Yar, and I know how deeply affected that you are by her loss. The truth is, Sonal, Caitlin Yar and her mother were travelling to Earth on a diplomatic mission on behalf of Turkana IV. However, their travel to Earth coincided with the attempted Borg invasion of Earth. Their vessel was caught in a tractor beam, and several Borg drones transported themselves to the bridge. They captured Caitlin, and her mother Ishara was killed trying to defend her daughter. Yes, your girlfriend was assimilated by the Borg, but when the Enterprise destroyed the Borg cube, her body was jettisoned into space, and she was beamed aboard the Enterprise. Section 31 found out about the rescue, and they issued an order to classify her location, as she holds more secrets to the Borg than Picard ever did when he became Locutus. That is why...they ordered your mother and I to tell you that she was...dead. Son, your mother and I apologize for being decitful about what happned to Caitlin. If you discover this recording and wish to cut off all communication with your family, then I will understand your wishes, and I will abide by them. However, do not forget your ancestry, your heritage, and your Vulcan ancestors before you, especially Surak. Surak knew about the powers of the Jedi and the Sith, and he made a solemn vow to bury those secrets to ensure that the Sith never return to power. I shall end this recording with this simple message: Live long and prosper, my son."

Darth Chaos said nothing. He looked coldly at the viewing screen. "Fuck you, Spock," Chaos said coldly. "Fuck you, fuck Saavik, fuck Sarek, and fuck Surak." He closed his eyes and concentrated, attempting to search for Caitlin. He envisioned her assimilation. He envisioned Section 31 finding her seemingly lifeless body floating in space and taking her away. He reached out with his feelings, and he felt her heart beating. It had the same feeling as the last time he held her in her arms after a long session of lovemaking. The feeling eminated from somewhere on Vulcan. Then he remembered that same feeling he felt when he killed the Vulcan high priestess as commanded by Palpatine. "She's alive...on this planet, in the palace of the Vulcan high priestess." Chaos looked at Serak. "Serak, our race has been betrayed by the practictioners of Kolinahr. Seek out those who failed to attain Kolinahr. We will kill the new Vulcan high priestess and her security forces with one swift stroke."
