The black void slowly disappears like blast doors opening as Ezra opens his eyes, a strange slightly crunchy and vaguely sticky feeling at the back of his head. Ezra stands up the world looking strangely empty, a void, he can't tell if it is black or white, it seems void of light and dark, and as an extension colour. He screams out but all he gets back is a muffled rebound of his voice, yet it is coming from everywhere.
He steps forward cautiously. Each step sending a ripple through whatever is the ground here as if it were water. Ezra screams for help, stumbling forward weaker, he wipes at his nose feeling something on his hand his eyes look instinctively towards the hand, noticing blood. He screams for help again stumbling weakly and stiffly forward. Then he sees something.
A void of nothing is very hard to walk through, or even know where to walk. But this is slowly eased for a moment as Ezra stares forwards seeing shadows, and light, he stumbles towards it the ripples still appearing but now each step he took started to feel more real. He heard the sound of water as he made the ground ripple. He heard voices. Cheering.
The lights got blinding as Ezra stumbled closer, the more he tried to reach the light the more strain he felt, as if some invisible force was pulling him away. His movement became stiff, almost zombie like. But he managed to get close enough to see through the light, dirty metal walls, paint on a small portion. An orange astromech rushed by the portion of whatever Ezra was watching, it had a dirty steel like body with the head being a clean bright orange with a yellow stripe.
It squealed in a nonsensical beeping manor as a purple hairless Wookie looking creature chasing him.
A throb near the back of his head made him lose focus as he grabbed at the back of his head feeling his hair being stiff, as if he had mud in his hair. His head felt like he was frozen yet the back of his head seemed to be hotter than his body should be normally. The moment his palm came into contact with his head, a large jolt of pain ran through his body.
Ezra held his hand in front of his face, a warm red liquid dripped off his hand. Blood
"I-Is… am I?..."
"Hera! I need some help moving these-"
Ezra felt his feet sliding back as the light and image of the ship slowly faded, his head getting heavy.
He fought tirelessly to stumble forward again, his feet managed to carry him into the light as he entered the ship and he felt the pull weaken.
He no longer felt frozen, he felt normal.
Ezra sighed. He saw the interior and smiled. Home.
He looked around there was very little happening, they were landed at some rebel base Red was with them. but Kristina wasn't to be seen, he looked around Kanan was moving boxes, and Sabine was smiling. Talking to some rebel soldier in the distance, the two were smiling and laughing as Sabine painted on some rebel crates.
Ezra stumbled towards Kanan, speaking softly, his screams coming out as whispers.
Kanan looked up as if to acknowledge the sound.
"Kanan you alright?" A soothing female voice asked. Ezra turned around to see Ahsoka,
"I am alright I just thought I heard something"
The two looked around as if the felt someone there. Sabine looked over
A scream echoed faintly. The sound of sobbing, and someone begging to be heard, yet it seemed to everyone but the two jedi it was nothing but a gust of wind.
"W-Was that?"
Ezra felt tears roll down his face mixing with the blood from his nose he screamed in despair as his legs gave back, he leant forwards falling to his knees. Slowly he let the rest of his body fall backwards. Blood spat out of his mouth as his scream softened. He tried again, lying on the ground.
He saw them look down at him.
Kanan stared at the ground seeing what looked like Ezra lying there for only the briefest, the two jedi stared at the other, then back down as the image vanished.
"Did that just?"
"We need to find him"
"Find who?" Sabine had wandered up to the duo as they were in shock from their recent experience.
Ezra cried out as he stumbled to his feet, sprinting as his body was pulled back into the void away from the Ghost. He slowly stumbled giving up hope and falling to his knees punching the 'ground' in this void of complete nothingness.
He closed his eyes, slowly his body leant forward and gravity did the rest, his face slammed into the ground.
Ezra opened his eyes, to a worried woman staring at him he stared back his eyes blurred he could make out their long straight hair, it looked black and flew everywhere as they grabbed the boy, lifting him into their arms, the woman ran carrying the half unconscious boy.
She rushed to an Imperial shuttle a robot on board rushing to save the boy.
Ezra finally awoke, in yet another medical room
He frowned as he noticed the emptiness of the area, no one with him.
A single tear fell from his eye running down his cheek
"Maybe I am really alone… d-did Kanan just string me along to use me?..." Ezra's thoughts wandered as he sat there devolving before getting back on track going from thinking everyone had betrayed him to wondering where he was
"Good to see you awake, don't worry you're safe now" a soft voice spoke with some form of déjà vu Ezra watched as the door was pushed open, a woman was opening it, but he didn't see who as they pushed it open with their back and hips, holding some form of tray they turned around
Ezra's face lit up. He smiled and let out a small sob of joy
"Kristina!"
She placed the food tray down on a table next to his bed. Ezra laughed and hugged her.
"You were lucky, but we are heading to meet with Kanan and the others… you almost died. I am glad I found you"
"Yeah. This whole experience was… strange"
"Well, I am assuming you are joining up with the old crew again? Red might be happy to see us again."
"I t-thought I saw him, and Kanan die?"
"If you think the inquisitor was fighting them you would be wrong sort of. I mean like, they did but not really, the inquisitor didn't hit a fatal spot. Unlike you, I found you on the ground blood everywhere in the sand, I only found you after hearing about some inquisitor failing to catch some boy."
Ezra looked her up and down, her imperial officer outfit looked slightly tattered her boots dirty, around the left thigh was a few claw marks as if something had scratched her, and just above the hip was a scorch mark of what could only be a lightsaber. Right bellow her shoulder on the side of her shirt was a small rip revealing a large poorly healed scar.
Yet she seemed happy as ever, her smile never fading.
"Why'd you leave?"
She asked softly.
The boy looked up at her staring her in the eyes.
"Y-You left me to die… why would you do that?" her voice sounded at first sincere, but slowly it faded into a distorted eerie almost inhuman voice.
He looked at her in fear, her face changed from a happy smile to an emotionless expression, blood and scars on her face, he looked at her, and her face lost all sense of life.
"Ezra…" the voice repeated over and over
He shut his eyes in fear, feeling her shake him, his eyes opened, everything was normal, Kristina looked worried he sobbed in fear hugging her tightly.
She held him in her arms, as he sobbed, begging her to stay with him.
She held him tightly, as she frowned for the boy.
"I promise Ezra, I am never going to leave you. I will always be by your side, no matter what"
He turned his head out of her shoulder to look at her, his electric blue eyes glassy and bloodshot, he let out a weak smile staring into her pale blue eyes, as if her eyes were some sort of safety net, he could fall into if he needed saving.
He slowly let go as he sat back from her.
"I… I am sorry"
"Ezra… what happened, you seem like being away broke you more, ever since I met you, something felt wrong, please what happened?"
"T-They left me… they left me. W-Why did they leave me?" he let a tear run down as his voice broke.
She sat with him till he fell asleep, a droid walked past heading to the cockpit to land it,
Kristina awoke to the sound of boots tapping against the metal floor, the ship may have been able to hold a medical bay but it barely had enough room for everything else, having to sacrifice space in the cargo bay, worried sounds awoke her
As she moved, she felt Ezra's arm slip off her own, she stood up and managed to pat down her outfit, to be a little more presentable.
Ezra awoke soon after that. He smiled as he saw the green Twi-lek and Zeb.
They all stood in silence for a moment. Worried as to what they would say.
"Z-Zeb?" Ezra spoke softly.
Before he could finish speaking Kanan ran in. Ahsoka too.
Ezra chuckled dryly.
He stood up. Stumbling and almost falling but the soft arms of Kristina grabbed him, helping the boy to walk.
"T-Thank you"
"Ezra it's… I'm sorry, I pushed you too hard if I had been more understanding maybe you wouldn't have been taken" Kanan frowned.
Ezra smiled stumbling towards him, hugging the jedi.
"If I hadn't, I wouldn't have found Kristina… but I am just happy you aren't mad at me anymore, all of you…" he stopped speaking as he scanned the room, Kanan, Hera, Zeb, Red was even hidden in the corner, but no Sabine.
"What's wrong Kid?" Zeb asked, before falling silent
"Sabine's probably just busy that's all" Hera chimed in.
"Yeah, maybe I can find her"
"Ezra…" Kristina cut herself off knowing better. "At least let me help you, don't want you to collapse"
"You can't let him leave the medical bay yet! He might get hurt again" Hera barked
"Nice to see you care about me now" Ezra muttered to himself.
Kristina and Ezra walked out the medical bay, Ezra looked at his old clothes, the orange and beige felt good to be worn again. or at least to be prominent. Not covered by cloth wrap.
He walked through the base it was the same location as the last time he was here.
The command centre in the mountain.
Ezra and Kristina walked through the base, the open air and gentle breeze like a soothing melody. He heard a familiar laugh, and looked to the edge of the base to see Sabine smiling and talking with the same guy he saw in that, place, where ever it was. She was happy and laughing at some joke he said.
The two were painting some rebel crates. Ezra wanted to walk over to her. But his legs wouldn't budge. His face feeling cold, he shook it off and tried walking forward.
"Kristina… I can manage from here"
"I will be close by, so don't get any funny ideas."
He stepped forwards, heading to the two, the sun slowly rising,
He got about five metres away from the two, he sighed with fear.
He opened his mouth to speak, neither noticed him there, He heard her laughing and watched her paint for about five minutes,
Kristina laughed watching before yelling to Sabine causing her to turn around,
Ezra stood there lost for words.
She removed her helmet, showing her hair, it was orange with pink tips. Ezra smiled, the other guy standing there. Sabine's smile faded for a moment,
The two just stared at each other.
"S-Sabine I-" Sabine dropped her helmet she was holding her spray can, she threw it at Ezra who covered his face as it flew at him slamming into his arms. Bouncing to the ground
"How could you?..." tears ran down her face she stumbled to him gently hitting his shoulder with a closed fist, slamming her hand down on his shoulder weakly "You just left! Y-You didn't give me time… I had to live thinking you might die only knowing what I said then!"
"S-Sabine I am so sorry"
"Y-Y-You. You just left, I never got to say sorry, never got t-to… t-to tell you how sorry I am" She broke down crying leaning on Ezra.
Kristina started to walk away to leave them be.
"Ezra I… didn't-"
"I didn't want to have to tell you I was leaving, I was afraid, I was horrified you might not care"
"Ezra…" She calmed down as the two stepped back from each other. Ezra as if a robot changed from looking like he had just seen a family member die to a happy awkward boy.
"I'm sorry who are you, I don't think we have met?" Ezra looked to the rebel in painted battle armour. He had short brown hair, Ezra scanned him up and down, noticing his olive skin, and strangely yellow eyes.
"I am Jek" The man smirked looking at him
"Sorry for interrupting you two" Ezra turned to walk away
"It was an honour to meet a real jedi"
"Jek you've talked with Kanan before" Sabine's face changed from a faint smile to one of utter confusion.
"Yeah, but like, Ezra has a cooler lightsaber!"
"Oh yeah, I lost those ages ago"
Ezra smirked stepping forward, many rebels seemed to just be wandering the base, he saw a set of piercing green eyes staring at him from the distance the face was hidden by a black robe, he stood there in shock, before snapping out of it and rubbing his eyes. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary there. Just rebels.
Ezra heard a cold whisper in his ear as he began to cough. Spitting up blood and stumbling around.
He tried to step towards Sabine again the crowd slowly opening as they tried to help. Then he stumbled backwards falling onto his knees, falling to the ground, the last thing he heard was a voice generally calm screaming and sounding as if they had just seen Darth Vader.
Kristina sat in a plastic chair next to Ezra's medical bed, her elbows resting on her thighs, her hands interlocked and her mouth and as an extension head resting on her hands deep in thought. She held a silver metal disk with a copper edge around it, it had electronic components in it. She sat up right as she fiddled around with it.
Sabine walked into the room and Kristina placed it into her pocket quickly, allowing herself to leave the room.
Sabine looked at her, she hadn't changed out of her old imperial outfit yet, even after it got all tattered up.
She saw the metal disk still slightly exposed out her pocket, but thought little of it, most people had a holoprojector, a very common form of communication.
Sabine sat next to Ezra who was deep in some form of sleep, either from whatever happened to him, or just general exhaustion after all he had been through.
