Divine Anubis, Part

The next day, the Crusaders continued their journey through Egypt. They took a ferry to get to their next location, which is supposed to be Edfu. The group were relaxing on deck, enjoying the breeze.

"The ancient Egyptians were known to bury their dead on the side of the Nile where the sun sets. That's why all of their cities are built on the east side." Noriko informed the group. "The structures on the west side are reserved for the dead."

"But our enemies won't care about east or west," Joseph said, stepping forward. "They'll attack from all directions." He warned.

The ferry passed by a group of bystanders that were walking alongside some rocky hills with a cow.

"Boy, that cow of yours, she's one lazy bovine." One of the men commented. "Pretty strong though…"

The other man chuckled. The man who walked in front, stopped and turned around.

"Hey, Chaka! Quit dragging your feet!" The man shouted. "You're wasting time!"

The younger man glanced at his father while carrying a heavy bag and a long wooden rake. He picked up the pace and jogged his way towards him.

"For the love of god! What a slacker! Just who do you take after?" Chaka's father said.

One of the men chuckled as they resumed walking. "Your cow and your son look just like you!" He remarked, making the other man laugh.

Chaka came to a stop, spotting something on the ground. It had an elaborate, jeweled-encrusted cross-guard complete with a scabbard.

"A katana?" He muttered. He put the heavy bag and wooden rake down. He got on one knee to inspect the weapon. "What's this doing out here?" He picked up the katana.

"Hey, look at that! It's a katana!" One of Chaka's father's friends pointed out.

They rushed over to Chaka.

"Hand it over!" Chaka's father said, snatching the sword off his son's hands.

"Hmm? Did somebody lose it?" Chaka's father hummed with amusement.

"What kind of person would drop a katana?" One of the friend's said.

"It's incredible! I bet you it's worth something nice!" Chaka's father said.

"Hey, what if the owner is around here somewhere?" The other man wearing a hat said, looking around the area. "I'd be really worried if I dropped this…"

"Perhaps it's a long lost antique. Should we take it to the police?" The bald man asked.

"You idiot!" Chaka's father snapped at him. "We'll line our pockets from selling this! HAHAHAHA!"

As his father laughed, Chaka looked elsewhere. "But I'm the one who found it…" He said to himself.

"It's worthless if it's just a replica." The bald man said. "Hurry and take it out!"

Chaka's father grabbed the hilt and pulled but the sword didn't budge.

"What's wrong?"

"I-It's stuck! It won't budge!" Chaka's father said, struggling to unsheathe the sword with all his might and strength.

"Here, let me try." His friend offered.

The friend wearing a hat looked over at the bald man, "Hold that end." He ordered.

Two people are pulling the cover of the blade while the other is pulling the hilt using all their strength. But the sword still didn't budge.

"N-No good! The blade isn't even showing!" The man wearing a hat said.

"Let me try…" Chaka stepped in.

"Shut it, Chaka!" Chaka's father shut him down. "If I can't do it then there's no way in hell an idiot like you could."

A yelp came out from one of the men, turning their attention to him.

"Ah! M-My hand!" There was a large gash wound on the man's hand. "AAGH! M-My hand! My hand is cut!" Blood gushed everywhere, all over his hand and the ground. "B-But how?! What could've possibly cut it?! The blade never came out! I didn't even touch anything but the hilt!"

The other man, horrified, took a few steps back, "What an ominous sword…"

Chaka, who had remained calm, intervened, "Hey! Let me try getting the sword out!"

"I told you to shut it!" Chaka's father snapped at him. "Go ahead and try it if you want!"

Chaka walked over to the katana, picked it up, and unsheathed it like nothing. Everyone was shocked by this.

"I-It came out so easily…" Chaka remarked. The other three men were struggling to get the sword out but with Chaka it didn't. "I barely had to pull it, but… what is this?" There was a dark aura around the sword and a strange ringing noise coming from it.

"I can hear the blade ringing…" Chaka stared at the sword in awe.

"I-I'm no sword expert or anything," The bald man began, he was shaking. "But even I can tell just how beautiful that blade is… It looks like an actual Japanese katana! It shines like the waters on the river!"

"What an amazing find!" Chaka's father said, approaching his son from behind. "Hey, give it here! You shouldn't be holding it!" He tried to reach over and take the sword away from his son. "Give it to me!" His eyes filled with greed.

Suddenly the sword pierced Chaka's father's chest. Chaka and the others gasped.

"H-Hey, what-" Chaka's father tried to choke out, attempting to pull the sword out. "What...What did you do?!" He cried out and fell on his back on the ground.

"I-I-I don't know!" Chaka stammered, he was terrified. "Y-You were standing right behind me, F-F-Father!" He took a few steps back. "It's not my fault!"

As his father wailed in pain on the ground, bleeding out, the other two men kneeled down to help.

"What the hell are you doing, Chaka?! Hurry! Hurry and get him a doctor!" The bald man yelled.

The sword that was still on the man's chest suddenly moved forward and sliced the bald man's face. The man collapsed to the side, dead.

The other man stepped away with a yelp. He was horrified from what he just witnessed.

"T-There's something weird about that katana!" The man with a cut on his hand said. "It's like it has a mind of its own!"

He doesn't know why, but Chaka felt the need to grab the sword. Upon grabbing it, he began hearing a voice.

"Be calm…" It said.

The voice frightened Chaka.

"Be calm, Chaka." The voice was gentle and soft. "Nothing is wrong. Nothing at all, Chaka…"

Chaka placed a hand on the side of his face, "W-Who are you?" He asked. "That voice, I can hear it from somewhere…"

"I am known as Divine Anubis!" Anubis replied. "I am the Stand whose card represents the God of the Dead and the guardian of the graveyard."

"You shall become my user."

"You have unsheathed me, Chaka."

"You are my user!"

"You have become an expert…"

"You are an expert in swordsmanship."

"You are stronger than anyone."

"Wield me, and kill!"

Anubis's voice overlapped one another over and over to Chaka.

Chaka now had a wicked grin on his face and stood tall with much confidence.

"My father and that man deserved to die." Chaka stated and looked over at the remaining survivor. "Now I feel like slicing you up, too."

"W-What?!" The man shouted. "W-Wait a minute, Chaka! Don't!" He ran behind the cow. "Please stop!"

Chaka charged at the man and swung the sword across the cow. But the cow was perfectly fine, it wasn't injured nor had a scratch on it. But the remaining survivor's body was sliced in half despite hiding behind the cow.

"H-How?! H-He didn't h-hurt the cow!" The man choked out before dying.

Chaka sheathed the sword back in place.

"Murder Joestar! Chop up, Polnareff! Slice Jotaro in half! You are an expert! An expert swordsman! You are stronger than anyone and can cut through anything!" Anubis tells Chaka.

Chaka smirked and walked off from the brutal scene.

"Kom Ombo? Do we really have time to make a stop here?" Polnareff whined as he and the others stepped out of the ferry.

"Quit griping." Joseph told the Frenchman.

"As long as they allow us to take the ferry, we cannot complain." Avdol reminded him.

Polnareff let out a sigh, "Man, I'm starving! Let's go grab some grub!"

"You're such a loudmouth, Polnareff." Noriko commented.

"Here," Joseph dug into his pocket and pulled out coffee-flavored gum. "This gum will have to tide you over."

"Tch! Isn't that crap for Iggy?!" Polnareff retorted.

"Well, it can't hurt to try some." Joseph said, handing the gum over to him and walked back to the others.

"By the way, where's the toilet?" He asked the rest.

"Let us search for one." Avdol suggested.

Polnareff growled under his breath but was interrupted when a civilian approached him. Failing to notice the group leaving.

"Hey, mister, listen here!" The man grabbed his attention. "Want some papyrus?" He held up a paper.

"Huh?"

"Paper is made out of papyrus. Would you like it as a memento?" The seller pointed at the paper. "Look, see? It's the real deal!"

"Papyrus?" Polnareff asked, grabbing the paper and examining it.

"I'm selling it cheap too!" The seller added.

"You're sure this is the real deal?" Polnareff queried.

"You betcha! This piece was made by a famous Egyptian craftsman." The man said.

"Hmm…" Not fully convinced, Polnareff simply ripped the flimsy paper in half and threw it to the ground, leaving the seller in shock and speechless.

"W-Wha-?!"

"It's a fake." Polnareff abruptly stated. "If it were real, I wouldn't have been able to rip it in half like that." He looked back at the man. "I'm not stupid, you know." He then noticed the others weren't around anymore.

"Huh? Where did Mr. Joestar and the others go?" He asked himself, looking around.

Out of nowhere, Iggy ran towards Polnareff. He jumped and snatched the coffee-flavored gum off his hands.

"Iggy! Why you little… Hold it!" Polnareff snarled at the Boston Terrier and chased after him.

"H-Hey! You still owe me you bastard!" The seller shouted, holding the ripped fake papyrus.

The chase led Polnareff outside of town. He lost track of Iggy and found himself surrounded by ancient temple ruins.

Polnareff frowned, catching up his breath, "That damn dog!" He muttered. "He totally gave me the slip…" He straightened up and began walking further down the ruins.

He walked past the visitors and sensed someone following him. It was a tall young-man with brown skin, black hair and bold lips. The man wore a ragged tunic that would suit a poor farmer of his stature, and he wore his hair in a ponytail. He was also walking bare-footed and on the side he held a long weapon that was covered with white bandages.

Soon the man was now walking beside Polnareff. Then Polnareff came to a stop.

"Hey," Polnareff called out without looking at him. "You have some balls to come attack me with so many people around…"

"It's funny," He continued. "Normally you guys wouldn't let us see you, or try to attack directly. That's how a true man does it. I didn't expect to see it from any of you guys."

"Identify yourself." He demanded.

A small fly landed on the hilt of the sword and instantly died.

"My name is Chaka," The poor farmer introduced himself. "I am the user of the Stand which represents the God of Death, Anubis. Jean Pierre Polnareff, I will take your life."

Polnareff let out a chuckle, "Hehehe! 'I will take your life', huh? Now that's a straightforward line. You're a bigger man than I would have expected."

The Frenchman proceeded to walk forward, going deeper into the ruins and farther away from the crowd. Once they were far enough, Polnareff turned around and faced Chaka.

"Have at it! Show me that Divine Anubis Stand of yours." Polnareff told Chaka.

Chaka got into a stance and unsheathed his sword. The blade releases another ringing sound.

"Chariot!" Polnareff called out his Stand. The Stand manifesting beside him.

Polnareff narrowed his eyes, "He has a sword, but… is he really gonna fight me with it instead of his Stand?"

They both start fighting, Chaka attacks first but Polnareff counters the blade with his Chariot and immediately notices something's off. Chaka swings again for another attack but Polnareff dodges it.

"The way he's moving and wielding the sword, he's a complete amateur!" Polnareff thought as he dodged every attack. "But there's something else… This is bad! I need to keep my distance!"

Chaka then leaped behind a pillar and swung his blade across it. The blade phased through it and struck Polnareff. A red line appears on the Frenchman's chest and blood gushes out from it.

"GYAAAA!" Polnareff screamed and placed his hands over his wound, falling onto his knees. "W-What the hell was that?! The sword phased through the pillar! And it didn't even cut my shirt! He somehow managed to cut me but not my shirt! If I hadn't kept my distance, that would've killed me…."

He gasped when he saw the sword phased through the pillar again. He frowned, "You son of a bitch! Chariot!" He yelled and summoned his Stand.

The two swords battled each other while Chaka remained hidden behind the pillar.

"Quit hiding like a coward! Show yourself!" Polnareff snarled at him.

Polnareff was pushed back from the impact and quickly got back up on his feet. Chaka then began dashing behind several pillars until he disappeared. Polnareff looked around the ruined temple around him. It was completely silent now.

"S-Shit! What the hell?! I lost him!" The Frenchman cautiously scanned the area. "I-I can't tell which pillar he's hiding behind. That Stand can phase through stuff to cut its target! My Silver Chariot is only able to strike within a meter at best. Damn it! He has me at a disadvantage." He gritted his teeth. "You've got some damn nerve to strike me with your sword. But this will be the end of you and your confidence!"

Polnareff leaped on top of a half-broken pillar. "Well, Chaky, how about this?!" He called him out. "Bring it on! All I've gotta do is stay away from those pillars! You wanna try hitting me from underground?" He chuckled, though he was sweating nervously.

Chaka made a slow, evil laugh that echoed the ruins.

Suddenly a pillar was sliced in half in front of the Frenchman.

"What the-?! The pillar!" Polnareff cried out.

Behind the falling pillar was Chaka, standing on top of it.

"I CAN DO MORE THAN PHASE THROUGH THEM, POLNAREFF!" Chaka shouted with a wicked grin on his face. "I CAN CUT THEM IN HALF IF I WANT TO!"

He held the sword with both hands, raising it above his head.

"DIE, POLNAREFF!"

Polnareff narrowed his eyes and launched Silver Chariot's rapier blade. The blade pierced Chaka's neck. He jumped off the pillar he was on and the other landed on top of it, smashing into pieces.

"Phew, that was close…" Polnareff wiped the sweat off his face, he was relieved. "Even Jotaro doesn't know Chariot has that secret technique… the ability to launch the blade. If my opponent can dodge the blade, I become completely defenseless. I can only use that attack if I'm in deep trouble…." He looked over at Chaka and walked over to him.

He stood before him and saw that Chaka was still alive and twitching. He placed a hand on his hip, "He's not dead yet but he won't be able to fight again anytime soon…" He then spotted Chaka's sword, which was now sheathed and wrapped with white bandages again.

"That's strange…" He remarked and grabbed the sword. "His sword is still in its sheath… Did it slip back in?"

He pulled it out a bit from its scabbard and was struck by its beauty. He was even able to see his own reflection on the blade. Before he could pull the rest of the blade out to have a closer look, Iggy's bark interrupted him and snapped him back in reality, quickly sheathing the sword.

"Hey, Polnareff. We finally found you." Jotaro said.

"We've been looking everywhere for you, Polnareff." Noriko told the Frenchman.

"You worried us after you wandered off alone." Joseph said. "What if you got attacked by an enemy?"

Polnareff then felt lightheaded and groaned.

"Polnareff? Are you alright?" Noriko asked, concerned.

"O-Oh, it's just you guys…" Polnareff slowly said, settling the sword down. He wasn't sure what was happening but he felt completely out of it. He wasn't sure if it was because he turned too quickly or from his wounds.

The group walks over to Polnareff.

"Polnareff, why are you crouching?" Joseph asked. "Did you step on some crap?"

Noriko noticed the wound on the Frenchman's chest.

"Polnareff you're hurt!" She rushed to his side and pulled out her handkerchief from her skirt pocket. "Here. Use this for now until we reach Edfu and have you treated." She placed a hand on his back.

"Why do you have a katana with you?" Avdol asked, "Did something happen?"

"Yeah… I got attacked by an enemy but it's over now." Polnareff explained and pointed over at Chaka's body. "His Stand was called Divine Anubis. He was a Stand user and an expert swordsman who could phase his sword through objects to cut behind them. It was a tough fight."

"But of course he wasn't nearly as strong as I am!" He added through his thought.

"He attacked me with this sword-hm?" He was reaching over to the sword but it was no longer there. "Huh?" He spotted a group of mice taking the katana. "H-Hey! Those mice are trying to steal the sword!"

"HEY!" He yelled at the mices.

The mices quickly dropped the sword and scattered.

Polnareff walked over to get the sword back, "Talk about creepy," He remarked. "So there's thieving mice in here, eh?"

"You guys like stealing cheese so stick to that!" He then tried to pull the sword out but it didn't budge.

"T-That's weird…" He tried to pull harder but it still didn't work. "It's so tight. I can't remove it anymore."

"Polnareff!" Joseph called out. "I'm glad that you're safe but don't forget we should always travel in pairs. Don't be careless!" He warned.

"Our enemies will not hesitate if they find us alone." Avdol stated.

Iggy continued barking and growling at Polnareff's direction.

"What's wrong, Iggy?" Noriko asked the Boston Terrier. "You have been growling and barking but at what?"

The group heard a horn blowing from a distance.

"That whistle is from our ship." Joseph said. "Let's hurry back or they'll leave without us."

They turned around to head to their ship.

"H-Hey, wait up!" Polnareff shouted and ran after them.

Later that day, the Crusaders made it to Edfu and checked in at a hotel. Polnareff was accompanied by Jotaro to the hospital to get his wounds treated while the others settled in their rooms.

The next morning, they all met up in Joseph's room.

"Polnareff," Jotaro glanced over at the Frenchman. "What're you gonna do with that sword?"

"I'm going to hand it over to the police since it's a dangerous weapon and all." Polnareff said while sitting on top of a desk.

"You're lucky that they allowed you to bring it on board," Noriko said. "After we had to explain to them it was a souvenir."

"It's for the best." Joseph nodded at Polnareff. "If you had left it in those ruins, anyone could have found it."

"It appears to be quite valuable." Avdol remarked.

Iggy growled and barked at Polnareff's direction, just like yesterday.

"What's wrong, Iggy?" Noriko asked.

"Iggy quiet down!" Avdol scolded.

"What if we get thrown out?" Joseph said.

"What the hell is wrong with you today, Iggy?" Polnareff snapped at him. "Now the fucking dog won't shut up. I guess I'll go take care of this now." He grabbed the sword and got off the table.

"Polnareff! Mr. Joestar just told us to never go alone!" Noriko said, blocking his path with her arm.

"Do I have to keep repeating myself?" Joseph said with a sigh. He turned his head to his grandson, "Jotaro, go with him."

"Sure." Jotaro nodded and followed behind Polnareff.

Noriko stepped aside to let them through. She watched them leave the room and had a worried look in her eyes. She wanted to go along to make sure they were safe. She felt a hand on her shoulder, turning her head, her eyes met Joseph's.

"They'll be fine." He assured her with a smile.

Noriko gave him a smile, "I know but…" She glanced at the closed door. "…I just want to make sure they're safe. I trust them but I don't want to see either of them get hurt."

"The police station is not far from here, they'll be back shortly." Joseph patted her back.

Noriko simply nodded but she still felt worried. Not only that, she has a strange feeling that something's going to happen and she can't seem to brush off.

As they were heading to the station, Polnareff wanted to make a stop at a barbershop. He sat back and relaxed on a chair while the barber trimmed his hair. He was even humming a small tune. Jotaro sat nearby while reading a magazine about marine life.

"Hey, shouldn't we be heading to the station?" Jotaro asked, his eyes averted to Polnareff.

"Oh, come on, Jotaro!" Polnareff said with a smile.

"A man's got to look his best, am I right, sir?" The barber, named Khan, said.

Polnareff then remembered something, "Oh, that reminds me," He leaned to the side to grab the sword. "Pops, could you set this katana over there?"

"Will do!" Khan said, taking the sword.

"It's a dangerous weapon no matter how you look at it." Polnareff informed.

Khan returned and started applying shaving cream around Polnareff's face.

"I was rolling around so much yesterday that my handsome face got all dirty. Now make me shine, Pops!"Polnareff said.

"Sure." Khan began shaving but Polnareff immediately stopped him by yelling at him that the razor was dull.

"Sharpen that thing, will ya?!" Polnareff yelled. "This is supposed to be the most relaxing part of the haircut!"

Jotaro closed the magazine, "Good grief, you're such a prima donna." He muttered.

As Khan was sharpening the blade, Jotaro ended up falling asleep with his arms crossed and Polnareff had a warm towel over his face. Khan removed the towel from the Frenchman's face and reapplied the shaving cream. He began shaving him again.

"Mmm! Now it's cutting nice and close." Polnareff said, with his eyes closed. "This feels amazing!"

"That's… good to hear." Khan said in a sinister tone.

"It's tres bien! Tres bien! Could you also get under my chin?" Polnareff requested.

"Sure…" Khan was no longer using the razor. "Underneath your chin, correct?"

Polnareff opened his eyes, seeing his own reflection from the mirror in front of him. He widened his eyes in horror as Khan held the katana right under his chin. The barber had a dark look on his face with a wicked grin.

"Right under your chin, right Polnareff?!"

"What?!"

Khan licked his lips, "It is I, you fool! The Anubis Stand user!"

To be Continued….

Not much is different besides Noriko tagging along with the group but next chapter is when it gets interesting... (≖ ͜ʖ≖)
