Maya jolted awake. She shouldn't have finished drinking the newly opened rum from her office. Her hair was full of black soot and her back was in agony. What the hell was she thinking last night. She looked down at her clothes and saw the dirt, the rips and tears in her t-shirt. "What the hell is wrong with me, I seriously have a death wish." Maya stretched to try and relieve the tension and the soreness of her back; it didn't help buying the most uncomfortable sofa ever for her office. She should have just gone straight back to her apartment after the event that occurred. Instead she had a hangover from hell and smelled like a burnt-out bonfire.
Maya unlocked her apartment door and threw her keys on the side table. Her last place was a lot more homely compared to this one. She needed a fresh start after quitting Station 19. The family she had gained there was lost with a click of a finger. She was damaged and she didn't know how to mend herself back together. She missed them dearly especially her best friend Andy, if she could go back in time and change what happened she would. But she ghosted them.
Looking at the time and realising she had made that stupid appointment at 2pm. She quickly jumped in the shower but not before putting her ripped t-shirt and jeans in the trashcan. The hotness of the steam and water soothed Maya's back and her hangover was beginning to slide. Maya laughed at herself, she really needed to cut back her drinking habits. Thinking back to the events of last night swirled in her head. Why did she go in? Was she wanting redemption or was it because she wanted to feel like her old self again? A woman-made hero who digs a damsel in distress. She knew she had taken a huge risk again last night. But saving that unconscious woman made her feel alive again. Before leaving the scene last night there was one thing Maya didn't realise. Andy had seen her.
